Edward Nygma/Riddler - Dormouse

Not only could he physically resemble a dormouse (Shorter, they tend to have reddish brown/Orange coats I think?), but again, it's more about the sleepiness. The Dormouse is depicted as asleep/Always falling asleep, and only really waking up to correct Alice. Jervis's likely first or longest first meeting with Ed would be in Arkham. Arkham, where his cell has been shown to have "Keep sedated" on it

Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow - March Hare

A hare matches Jon's aesthetic. Long gangly creepy looking bunny. Typically depicted with straw on his head. It's cute if Jervis refers to him as "My dear Hare". March Hare and Hatter are friends!

And also the Hare is routinely depicted as nerve wrecked or delirious, and in adaptations, often dies or suffers

Harley Quinn - Queen of Hearts

The red and black look, the cards aesthetic already there. Plus, Queen of Hearts is childish, bad tempered, quick to overreact, very feared character (Also has a mallet). And also rarely Actually executed people. This one does play on the negatives more, due to the fact she's an antagonist (More obstacle for Alice to clear) But the queen Does have some better traits

Selina Kyle/Catwoman - Cheshire Cat

Obvious, only major cat themed rogue, but Does have deeper implications. Cat dissapears often and without a trace, seemingly or literally invisible, can go places most do not dare to. And also friendly with both the protagonist and antagonist characters. Inherently chaotic neutral force. It does what it wants for it's own entertainment. It may like Alice and act sorta as a guide sometimes, but that in no way means it sticks on her side

Hugo Strange - Gryphon

Somewhat overbearing, dismissive of the obsession and Sorrow of other characters, says they have no fact. Orders around Mock Turtle. This may not fit the greatest, but I like it

The Batman - The Jabberwock

Some unknown and all around feared cryptid? Yeah makes sense

Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin - Dodo

Flightless bird depicted with a cane. Odd, but good natured. Mostly. Does try to burn down a house as a solution to Alice being stuck in it. Organizes the Caucus races. The Dodo character/Races are meant as a critic on systems that lack clarity and decisiveness, who's actions are ultimately unhelpful or pointless

Now there are a couple I'm not entirely sure about yet. It's actually suprisingly hard to make everything fit well

Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze - White Rabbit

Because. He. Y'know. Is running out of time? I do like this one, mostly cause it's a lil funny to me. And also Freeze is mostly only an antagonist to work for his goal, the Rabbit is only "antagonist" Because he has to work for the Queen

Basil Karlo/Clayface - Mock Turtle

Melancholic, sad that it's no longer a real turtle/Just a turtle

Pamela Isely/Poison Ivy - King of Hearts/The Flowers

She is So hard to pin down. I could say Kimg of Hearts to match Harley (Moderate, calm, the one that pardons the subjects, calms the queen, later revealed just as juvenile and willing to execute), or, I could go with the flowers to match her vibe. I really do not know

Waylon Jones/Killer Croc - Jabberwocky/Duchess

Kinda hate both of these for him. Jabberwock because. The obvious. Duchess kinda due to starting off nice to the queen, then transitioning to friendly and respectful with Alice. Major temper (Nervously agressive) but not inherently bad even though she starts/Is Queen aligned?

Harvey Dent/Two Face - Tweedle Dee & Dum/The Walrus & The Carpenter

Tweedle Dee and Dum seem like the obvious answer but I kinda hate it so much. It doesn't feel like it fits and kinda feels insulting. Nothing Truly fits Two Face. Walrus and Carpenter is the closest I got. Walrus (Two Face?) The leader, conniving moocher, con man, yet hopeful of the future. Carpenter (Harvey?), believes getting an honest job will be better, still goes along with the plan, acts before he thinks, quick to anger

Joker - King of Hearts/Knave of Hearts

King to match Harley but also I dislike most adaptations so mm. Knave because he's a coward/j

hello yttd fans. i really dislike making posts such as these, but i believe many of you do not realize how discourteous you're being and i would like to bring that to your attention for... well, everyone's sakes.

to preface, the your turn to die tags are intended for searching for fan content. this includes:

- fan art, writing, sculptures, knitting, etc. various art forms which feature some level of yttd theming - theories/speculation, commentary, etc. (likely accompanied by screenshots or official artwork) - headcanons, be it drawn or simply compiled in a post - aus/crossovers based upon the main game - edits - so on; just most things that draw from and extrapolate upon yttd, really.

+ ytts tags may have overlap in the yttd tag. this is understandable, as it as an offshoot of the main game.

this does not mean that every single post you make on yttd must be constructive -- i've certainly had times i only wanted to share a cute sketch nankidai made, with little additional commentary. but the difference here is what you choose to maintag, and how often you do so. there are some posts which, frankly, do not need to be maintagged. i'm not telling you to delete them, just not to spam the main tag with them.

many of the current 'daily' yttd blogs in particular have dismissed this. if you intend to post daily, you must realize that you will be interacting with the search tag incessantly. typically, i'd have no issue with this! i love seeing the yttd tag blow up, as it did with the minisodes, ytts, or the chapter updates! it was nice seeing everyone reinvolve themselves, if only briefly.

however, when the tag is overwhelmed by 'daily' blogs which are only ever posting official content that has been out for years -- that is when i take issue. people should not have to avoid the yttd tag simply because it's difficult to comb through for actual art and the like they're searching for; they shouldn't have to block another five blogs to make it useable.

you are overwriting many people's other posts, and with recent tumblr developments, sometimes the search tags have a limited amount of posts they will show - which applies even after you have blocked people. all you will find is a screenshot along the lines of this:

now, i understand that some people might not be sure what to share, in which case i'd ask you to sit on that before you begin posting on a blog that warrants daily interaction! in general, planning out exactly what you intend to post beforehand is probably a good idea: whether it's edits, headcanons, art, so on...! i'm sure there's something of your own you can showcase & add in your individual flair for your blogs! i don't intend to turn you away from the yttd tag entirely, but i know there's more unique you can add on your own instead of simply reposting the yttd game, one frame at a time... (an exaggeration, but i do hope you understand my point.)

- for example, if it's a case of you not being confident in your art, or feeling as if you need prompts to draw. here is some advice!!

{ confidence } - you should still practice! although it may be discouraging not having people reblog your art as often, it's nonetheless a step in the right direction! hell, i've seen some beginner artists who already show tons of potential: despite their insecurities about linework, they'd have amazing colors; or despite their colors feeling flat, they're slowly trying to hammer away at intriguing or symbolic composition. honing this is what's truly important, and i'm sure the right audience will eventually begin to recognize and appreciate the effort you've put into it.

{ prompts } - in this case, it may very well be fitting to make an introduction post asking for requests! but - if that doesn't work out, there's always option b) searching out prompt generators! or, finding lists of prompts somewhere on tumblr. there were many roleplayers who used to use these for writing, but you could still draw out the scenarios!

all in all, it's just important to find your niche! i don't have a good conclusion to this post. just please be mindful of not spamming the tag in this way. there are other ways to contribute/be known without frustrating other fans... thank you if you've read this post in full.

speaking of, I think in color’s past when he was a scientist n stuff, Gaster used to pay a lot of attention to sans and papyrus when they were his main focus, his main experiments, but then he shifted his focus to undyne when he apparently failed with sans. so he was neglectful to the both of them, and sans had to take care of papyrus obviously, until Gaster disappeared.

when color was dropped into the void, he was happy to see Gaster but also angry at him and confused and frustrated. he canonically attempted to get out of the void in a certain manner that almost killed him, and Gaster was “left to pick up the pieces.” I think after that, they became a little less tense with each other in mutual understanding of being trapped in a place with no exit. with the many years color spent in there, they eventually kind of patched things up and acted as family again, as it was kind of inevitable with that close proximity.

Anyway color visits him weekly because he still yearns for that fatherly love .. I think he was hesitant at first to bring Killer along because he wasn’t sure how he’d act towards a Gaster AU. I personally think killer doesn’t remember anything about his Gaster, much like how the rest of the canon undertale universe forgot about him. He also had many other things to worry about and Gaster was NOT his main concern 😭😭

Maybe he just stares at Gaster and gets some sort of nostalgia, but he doesn’t know where it comes from, and he doesn’t like how it feels so he tries to ignore it.

It's so interesting how submissive House is to Wilson. In basically every scene where Wilson gives his 2 cents about a case, House without fail (for the most part) follows his opinion. Wilson gives him unsolicited advice and half the time he listens without saying anything, and the other half he argues but ends up listening to him anyway. House starts psychoanalysing Wilson and Wilson does it right back to him and House shuts the fuck up or gives a one line quip back at him (to have the last line) but knows deep down Wilson is right.

For a man of House's stature and how he interacts with Literally Everyone Else, the writers really hammer it into your soul that House only really listens to Wilson and no one else

TO be honest. I don’t understand what it means when people say Merlin was Arthur’s bane. Mayhaps I misunderstand but. Arthur was a bit of an assassination magnet (not to mention all those magical creatures and bandits... so many bandits), and Merlin actively prevented Arthur's death for years, which would have occured without him anway in the very first episode. I can see why one might argue that Merlin was just delaying the inevitable, or that he didn't succeed in keeping Arthur safe until Arthur could enact the golden age, but certainly I don’t see how he could have been Arthur’s bane.

Also, it’s implied in the last episode that the golden age does occur, but under Guinevere. Which makes sense as she knew Merlin was the sorcerer and that she was pleased about it (and I recall it was confirmed in interviews), so I also don’t follow the twin train of thought that Merlin was his own bane or even Camelot’s. Camelot was already bane-d(?) under Uther. But partly because of Merlin's steady friendship, Arthur matured into a king who was kinder than his father. He also actively sought magic's aid on multiple occasions, so he knew magic had potential for good (like healing his queen) without Merlin needing to tell him about his magic.

I don't think it's fair to say Camelot's laws on magic remaining relatively static was because no one close to Arthur came out as having magic. There was still much risk in that, and for Merlin a lot at stake, not just his life. A law change was still possible (and almost seemed to be set up that way) without Arthur needing someone he was personally close to having to do the work to humanize it for him (in the sense that the episodes with the druids, the druid boy with Elyan, and the dolma seemed like they were pointing to a law change because Arthur sees the diversity of magic and those who have it).

At worst Merlin’s efforts didn’t change the status quo, but we do have things indicating that they did. And Merlin was not single-mindedly serving Arthur at the expense of everyone else. He saved Camelot as a whole multiple times. He was also very willing to stick out his neck for many others even during the height of his anxiety and agitation in season 5. (Also only being slightly silly when I say this, but he was also THE wingman for Arthur when he was getting with Gwen, so in a way Merlin’s help led to their courting being a success and thus contributed to her being in a great position to change the laws. so personally I give points to Merlin for that). Most of the decisions centering Arthur's safety seemed to stem from the fear that Albion would crumble before it began if Arthur were to die, so he tried his best to prevent that from happening in any way he knew. (Like, when Arthur is dying, Merlin asks "So I failed?" regarding the whole golden age thing, which I think is telling that the prophesy and his role in it was still VERY much at the forefront of Merlin's mind).

And this is a digression but I know people think Merlin should have done more for Camelot, or for folks with magic (like, as a revolutionary or something akin), which I understand but no one reached out to network with him really? It'd require resources, people (always confused why there weren't a whole bunch more folks offering Merlin material/intellectual/emotional support if they thought he should be the one to bring about the golden age. all he was told was that the forseen way it actually happens succesfully is through Arthur), time (I doubt it’d have been much of a ‘quicker’ way necessarily), and incredible planning + foresight if it's meant to be something that works out effectively + long-term. Okay I think I've digressed enough now. This is a whole seperate thought that I don't think I'm gonna do any justice here lol, and I'm already rambling, so I'll stop now :,)

But anyway, in terms of being his own or Arthur’s bane, we know Arthur will return, and we don’t know how Merlin spent his years. His magic can play with time and maybe he learns how to control that, or he could have entered a stasis like in various legends, etc etc etc. And I mean it is tragic on many levels, and it’s sad we didn’t see Arthur’s arc completed, and that Merlin sacrificed so much for a goal that didn't get much acknowledgment by the show at the end, but still. I don’t think Merlin was Arthur’s bane, or Camelot’s, or his own.

what's grace's reflection like?

it is, maybe, a little dull but grace is a little dull Very Normal so it's fitting i think,,,anyway his reflection is just him, but frozen (ha) at the moment of murdering the guy in the arctic

so, scraggly, haunted, bearded, covered in blood, very frostbitten. also probably cold enough to give You frostbite if you could touch it. makes the area around it slightly frosty bc Cold Aura. borderline frozen corpse looking guy

grace sees himself as a terrible murderer & no better than he was at thr moment of killing & butchering a guy so it'd make sense for that to be reflected,,,but the reflection isn't mocking him in any way & it isn't violent or cruel or Bad at all, even if that's what grace thinks about himself.

i think if you talk to the reflection itself, it holds the total opposite feelings to grace. it's covered in blood, yes, but it knows the murder was for survival, out of fear, and that no, of course everything going wrong wasn't just grace's fault. it just wants him to move past it & heal & forgive himself, even if he can't undo what already happened

Insane to think that in another timeline Horikoshi decided to give All For One a normal height like everybody in the fandom used to think was the case.

I wonder if him deciding to make All For One a giant was because he'd already decided on his backstory of stealing poor baby Yoichi's nutrients?

Hm that could be the case, I've speculated on that before as in 193 when we first see the brothers together we're shown that Yoichi is sickly and we see AFO say Yoichi is the only family he has left. So Hori could've had a vague picture of their backstory that we saw in 407 in mind at this time. Which might mean he had an idea of it when first creating AFO and Yoichi as characters since we see hints of it as far back as 2018 (when 193 first released) I wouldn't be surprised if he imagined AFO as being huge because he stole his brothers nutrients in the womb when first creating him.

We can't be sure unless Hori decided to talk about it someday, but it's interesting to speculate.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

Since I talked about Chuuya in the other ask I just answered, here I will talk about Dazai — because honestly I love writing them both, just in different ways :0

If the Howl AU was me digging into Chuuya’s character, the equivalent for Dazai is probably the “This is how it feels to take a fall” fic— despite the fact that a good portion of it isn’t actually in his POV. I think Dazai is a really interesting character to show from other people’s perspectives, because he has so many layers of masks that even his sincerity can be distrusted, just from sheer contamination by all his bullshit.

…Now, big qualifier that this is how I personally tend to interpret his character, but I do like to characterize him as being not actually that complex beneath all his facetiousness. Yes, he’s clever, but his successes have always come across to me as being more a matter of information gathering, lots of contingency plans, and a fair amount of luck, rather than superhuman genius. I mean, if he was infallible then a) he would have been able to magically figure out that Chuuya was Arahabaki in Fifteen instead of being surprised as he was, b), he would have known exactly what Chuuya was going to choose at the end of Stormbringer instead of preparing backup plans in case Chuuya decided not to fight, and c) he would have been able to prevent the Mimic incident before it got to the point of Oda dying.

Anyway this has turned into a ramble, but basically I just really enjoy writing his character from that perspective. In “This is how it feels to take a fall” I wanted it to be clear that he was backsliding into his old patterns of behavior due to sheer desperation, and that that wasn’t a good thing for him or anyone else around him. Yes, he managed to save Chuuya, but he caused a lot of collateral damage while doing so, and he’s going to have to work through that emotional burden and figure out ways to make amends for that.

In the end, he’s a character who changed his entire life’s trajectory just because of a promise he made to his friend! When that’s kept central to his character, I think he’s really compelling.

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

Kind of a combination of both! My first three fics I barely planned at all before diving straight in, whereas the little mermaid AU, this is how it feels to take a fall, and the Howl AU (and now the skyline pigeon fic, too) have all required more planning. That said, I don’t think my outlines can entirely be considered as proper outlines because I am not the most organized person in the world — and I frequently have to change things around while writing because I’ll get to a part where I think “this wouldn’t make sense for this character right now actually” and i find it’s better to switch gears rather than forcing it.

Examples of my “outlines” from my note files (a bit of the Howl AU but mostly the little mermaid AU because I was losing my mind planning that one out)

Something I noticed about Haruka's change in t2 is that he says he likes the way he is now and supposedly gained more confidence, but the rest of his answers in seasons 2's interrogation are still self deprecating. Saying how no one is like him cause "no one is likehim cause they are all great people, everything (about him) is wrong, etc.". My guess is what he gained wasn't confidence, it was his innocent vote and Muu's influence that temporarily rubbed off on him. Think about it: Muu's personality did a whole 180 when she was voted innocent. She went from being shy and timid to becoming a queen bee which is what her 'true personality' is. Haruka, while he learned to become more social, was still unsure of himself. He couldn't fathom why someone like him was forgiven (what he sings in akaa) but still takes it. But why?

Cause it's what Muu does. They were both given an inch and took a mile

It's pretty clear Haruka is heavily attached to Muu (he even says his current self only exists because of her), but I think Muu influenced him to think that forgiven = what he did wasn't wrong. Since it seems like it is also her own mindset. But before, Haruka knew what he did was wrong and felt remorse, while Muu always thought she was in the right cause (her words: It's your fault for doing horrible things to me)

Also, confident people do not form unhealthy attachments like this and threaten to kts for someone else. Haruka did not gain confidence, he gained temporary relief from someone else

And this isn't to say Muu is abusive or doesn't care about Haruka at all, but it's still so incredibly unnerving to influence someone that's already broken like this

I've wanted to talk about this for a while, I feel like the fandom overlooks just how deeply Muu influenced (and probably continues to influence unless their codependency starts to break in T3) Haruka. Not that shes evil or abusive or anything of the sort, but unfortunately their attachment styles create the most awfully perfectly fitting puzzle piece

Haruka looks down on himself so much, he wants more than anything to be a "smart, strong and interesting person" in his own words. As a result he is constantly searching for someone to latch onto and mirror, trying to create a new identity for himself, because he just doesn't see any part of himself that is worth keeping (BPD Haruka headcanon comes in...) Haruka still believes he's wrong, that he's worthless, but he's desperately looking for any solace albeit temporary or fake. A confirmation bias I think?

Something that comes into mind when proving this point, is that when Muu talked about Kotoko's attacks in her 2nd VD, she mentioned that those who were attacked were "deemed bad people by the Guard" as in they were scary and cruel, but Es, who so kindly believed that Muu wasn't at fault by giving her an innocent verdict, had deemed those people at fault, so they kinda deserved it, in her view. When Haruka was asked about what he thought of Kotoko's attacks, he said something similar, but then we see him in Mikoto's 2022 birthday TL coming to check up on him, showing compassion, wanting to wish him a happy birthday, even though Mikoto was voted guilty in T1, he should be a bad person in Haruka's book as well, but I think that shows he doesn't really believe what Muu was saying, he just doesn't think of his opinions as worthy so he latches onto those of the people he looks up to, the authority figures (Muu, Es) (I could talk about this for a while...). Also, in the newest collab, one of Haruka's lines were "Mikoto-san is a good person" but I'm not sure exactly when in the canon timeline that takes place (as in, before or after T2) (I'M SORRY I JUST HAVE TO BRING UP 0109 SIBLINGS HERE THEIR DYNAMIC IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME)

I do think Muu feels guilt and is just as broken, just in different ways, and she copes with her own issues differently, but I won't go offtopic... but yes I completely agree with what youre trying to say here. That Haruka is largely under Muu's influence, and it's heartbreaking. I often think about how an innocent verdict in T1 without Muu's influence would've helped Haruka gain some actual confidence and maybe even start to develop some sense of identity and independence. When I see Haruka T2, when I listen to his VD, his MV, all I see is... not Haruka. As in, Haruka under someone else's influence, breaking even more. It's not either of their faults, again! But god is this codependency going to take a toll on him for a while.

Like, come on, you can't tell me the boy who gives the most birthday wishes, says that all the prisoners are good people unlike him, says he would forgive everyone but certainly not himself, is a confident, guilt-free person. I don't know if it's just me but even his smile in his T2 sprite feels so... forced...? My poor poor boy.

Ahh thank you so much! I used linen, I think mine's a bit lighter in weight than the show one but tbh I think it worked just fine. As far as I can tell the show one isn't lined, so I didn't line mine, either. If you do the same just make sure your fabric isn't too light!

But highly recommend something natural with a nice weave, has a nice texture and will make distressing later easier!

Have so so much fun at the show! From what I've seen, in person and online, there's always people in costume, or at least themed clothing! But I feel similarly, I only wore my suit jacket over a dress when I went bc I was a bit too shy to do full cosplay (plus I wanted to go as myself, just dressed up a little).

I would assume that last one would have interesting twofold connotations given your status as a law student, due to these creatures' association with the legal profession - the epithet of "legal eagle" on the positive side, and all the jokes about snakes and crocodilians' show of professional courtesy on the negative. As an enthusiast of all things reptile related, I feel it is a reputation undeserved by these misunderstood, scaly creatures... as well as those aspiring to take on careers in law, very important for society...

But I digress. Lastly, I would also take it that, for rather obvious reasons, you don't really like fish, the way they remind you of a certain someone...

Despite, as you noted correctly, being fascinated by cats, I am not that fond of most domestic animals, and my liking for cats is simply an amusing exception. However, there are still some species that I could call charming and interesting in ways different from keeping them as pets.

The first animal that came to mind was a graceful black panther. Ever since I was a kid, I thought of panthers as majestic, powerful guardians, trustworthy leaders, and dangerous vigilantes. They might not represent justice in the traditional sense of court cases and hour-long debates, but if one crosses their road, they should be wary of seeing their eyes shine in the dark when the night falls.

On the other hand, I could never resist swift, elegant antelopes' beauty. As someone who has always strived for success and improvement, their efortless endurance and resilience resonated with me; antelopes are in a constant state of action, awareness, and searching for new paths, opportunities. For me, they are a symbol of motivation and energy.

As my final point, I would like to mention swans. Even though they are often depicted as an embodiment of love, from swan figurines being placed on wedding cakes to towel swans on hotel beds, these birds have always struck me as an exquisite representation of change. On another note, the concept of a swan song has captivated me ever since I learned what the expression meant. It is impossible to deny that I spent hours considering what my swan song could possibly be, and to tell the truth, I still think about it from time to time.

Unfortunately, I do not have a strong stance on reptiles. They are the most beautiful when admired from afar, and their quiet deadliness amazes me; snakes in particular have been painted as villains since the beginning of time, so despite me condemning the demonization of reptiles, I understand why people have those... preconcieved notions about them.

Keeping rodents and other smaller animals as pets does not make much sense to me. For me, it would be impossible to love something that is barely capable of communicating its needs. These fluff balls always seemed closer to decor than to actual companions.

As for fish, I would not say that a certain someone you mentioned has enough influence over me to make me actively dislike fish. Marine species look magnificent in acquariums when the interior is done right, and personally, I do not mind fish... served with a tasteful side dish, that is.

It was one of the more concerning developments Astor had seen amongst his thousands of visions, a particular branch in the timeline that could throw everything they’ve worked for into jeopardy. Now he understood why it was always that particular blond solider popping up amongst future battles of blood and gore—he was to be the Hero of Hyrule, a crucial piece to the prophetic puzzle.

But oh, as fate would have it, the boy didn’t even know that he was in a staring role in this story that was ever unfurling. For now, he was only a solider. All Astor needed to do was keep it that way.

Which led them to this moment, a carefully orchestrated event which would see the solider forced to walk one of two paths; remain the ever loyal knight and allow the village below them to pay the price in malice and flames, or surrender to the Yiga Clan as a willing prisoner of war.

“I’m not making you do anything,” Astor says as the little ball of malice hovers in his hand, displaying a vision of death and destruction for the citizens below. “The choice is entirely yours, boy. Though I do suggest you make it quickly.”

I'm kinda new to fanfiction (not that I didnt know it existed but I literally have never seen or engaged with any until like a month ago lol) and so I just wanted to get your perspective on something I dont really understand yet. I'm autistic so I guess sometimes it's just hard for me to see/imagine characters as anything but how they are in canon, but I understand that it would be totally boring to write fanfic that only follows canon! I kinda see fanfic as that writers version of the character, like that's your specific version of Dabi and other writers have their versions of Dabi and maybe they're completely different 🤔 and I guess in my head it made more sense to me to just make a new character to make them exactly how you want and then you wouldn't have to worry about canon at all lol (because my mind wont let me see characters differently sometimes) but I get it now that you explained :) so if you dont mind me asking in your au's what happened differently in dabi/ touyas life to make him a sexual person? In canon I dont really see Dabi as a sexual person like he couldn't be bothered with relationships or anything sexual, like I almost see him as being asexual. So what kind of changed for him in your au's to make him more sexual and willing to have relationships? And thanks again for taking the time to explain for me, I really appreciate it 😊💕

hello again!! c: oh i’m glad i could help! <3 i mean, ultimately, just like all other fiction, it’s all personal preference. some people only like to read in-canon fic and some people only like to read AUs and some people like both, etc etc etc and it’s all totally and completely fine! i think you seeing fanfic as that specific writer’s version of a character/characters makes complete sense and, in a way, is also true—we are each expressing our own interpretations of him! so i absolutely get where you’re coming from there c: and i think your reasoning for being confused makes sense, too!

oh that’s a good question! unfortunately, i don’t have an answer for you, though, because i personally have always interpreted canon dabi as someone who would use casual sex (and drugs!) to try (and fail) to fill the gaping void in his chest. it is 100% fine if you disagree with me, and i will always encourage anyone to interpret any character however they’d like to. the beauty with art and fiction is that there’s technically no wrong answer to a lot of this stuff—if you personally see dabi as someone who is asexual, then he is asexual! if i see him as a sexual being, then he is a sexual being! we can have our own conflicting views on him and who he is, because he isn’t real, and he can be whoever we want him to be. does that make sense? let me know if you have any other questions or something seems unclear and i will try my best to further explain myself! <3

very funny (read: very annoying and bad) that certain subsects of the fandom were like "see, people hating on ashton proves that misogyny in the cr fandom isn't real and you're all just a bunch of liars!" but the second imogen is dismissive towards the gods or kinda jerky to her friends the hate for her fucking quintupled in the tag.

yeah lol. i've talked before about the subsection of this fandom (and many fandoms) which mostly stans for the female PCs/female player's PCs and will be super harsh on the male PCs/male player's PCs in turn, and how i find these people kind of exhausting and hypocritical. but there's also definitely a group that does the reverse of this. partially as a reaction to the first group, and then the first group reacts to the second, and they exist together in a shitty ouroboros of takes where a significant part of the analysis is influenced by the desire to Win At Discourse. this includes accusations of misogyny, which doesn't actually belong to any one take or interpretation or fan group but influences and permeates any space. conversely misandry is not any sort of real pervasive issue as much as it is an aspect of the larger problem of both of these perspectives, which is that they ultimately reinforce the essentialist, binary understanding of gender they're intending to combat. tries to do away with it entirely, ends up living as an inversion of it, thus continuing to refer to it indirectly, etc.

but anyways, that first group got to spend the last month acting like Fearne was a helpless victim of a manipulative, heartless Ashton who can't possibly be expected to take literally any responsibility for her actions. so now it's the second groups turn to be annoying!

thinking about how in s4 sayid and desmond were stuck on the damb freighter and technically all they had was each other and how desmond managed to keep so much hope within him in the present because of penny (who believed him and didn't give up on him) and sayid was the one who helped desmond connect to her

and how in s6 the thing that snaps sayid out of his weird catatonic state was confronting desmond in the well which turns into desmond confronting him about whether or not what he is doing is worth it

sayid helps desmond become himself again by helping him reconnect with penny—the woman he loves, arguably the only reason that kept him going, the very thing he held onto to keep living. and desmond helps sayid become himself again by helping him realize that even if sayid is able to bring back and be with "the woman he loved", at what cost would that be?
