My terribly late contribution to Make A Terrible Comic Day (which tbf I only just found out about it)

Can you do a little blurb of Nico asking you to be his valentine 🥺

he’d been a little off all day, but not in a bad way. he just seemed…sneaky. and nervous. two adjectives you’d never normally use to describe nico, but here you are, sitting on the couch watching an early 2000’s rom com while he sends nervous glances your way every few seconds.

he keeps looking at the door, too, making you suspicious as to what (or who) is going to be coming through it.

about halfway through the movie you hear several quick knocks on the door, the sound making nico jump up like the apartment was on fire.

“i’ll go get it! stay here, it might be a stranger,” is what he rushes out, his accent thick and jumbling his words a bit. he all but runs to the door, only cracking it to whisper at whoever is on the other side.

your interest is very obviously piqued, and you’re extra tuned in to what’s happening in the small entry way, despite trying to pretend it’s not.

“y/n, i need you to close your eyes,” you hear nico ring out to you, a hint of nerves and stress in his tone.

you sit up straight from your lounged position, confusion taking over.

“neeks, why do i need to close my eyes? who’s out there? what’s going on?”

“please, just close your eyes,” he basically whines, not wanting you to ruin the surprise before it’s even in the apartment.

with an amused sigh, you comply. “okay, they’re closed. tell me when i can open them again.”

you hear hushed voices, two of them. very familiar voices.

“jack? luke? is that you?” you ask, hands still over your eyes to block your vision.

“hey y/n!” luke’s cheery voice fills the space, followed by a thud, a grunt, and jack’s voice whisper shouting “dude, you were told to be quiet. shut up!”

nico groans lowly, knowing he shouldn’t have recruited them for help.

you hear shuffling and clanking before the footsteps and noises stop, almost making you nervous for what scene you can’t see is unfolding.

“okay, before you open your eyes, i need you to know that only one of these things was my idea and the other was unknown to me until i opened the door. so, just be prepared. you’ll know which one was my idea. i hope,” nico’s nervous voice moves closer to you, until you feel his hands close around your wrists from behind.

he’s leaning over the back of the couch you’re sitting on, his heat radiating off his chest onto your back.

“alright, on the count of three,” nico whispers into your ear, letting his lips brush against the skin.

“one,” you hear a snicker from jack or luke, you can’t really tell.

“two,” you notice nico’s hands are oddly sweaty.

“three,” his hands tremble only slightly as he moves your own away from your face, not knowing what sight awaits you as your eyes adjust from the darkness you were just in.

when you can see more than just stars again, you’re met with an image you never, in your life, thought you’d see.

blocking the tv you were just watching, was a massive floral arrangement. it was in the shape of a heart, with bright red roses in the outline of the heart, followed by soft pink roses a little further inward, and white roses filling out the center.

in the middle of the foliage was a “be my valentine?” spelled out in a mixture of black roses and some other flower you couldn’t name. it was beautiful, really. a little eccentric, but absolutely gorgeous.

the flowers weren’t even what grabbed your attention, though.

what you were focused on, was the two characters stood on either side of the arrangement.

luke and jack stood on either side of the large display, in skin colored body suits, headbands with slinky antenna hearts on their heads, sporting adult diapers, fake bows and heart shaped arrows in hand, and wearing costume angel wings on their backs.

“you’ve been love bombed!!” luke shouts before they both take the heart shaped arrows and twist the base, setting off an explosion of red, pink, and white confetti to reign down on you and all of the furniture in the room.

it all happened so fast you truly didn’t know how to react, mouth dropping open in surprise.

nico mumbled what you assumed were curse words in swiss-german before standing straight up to brush the confetti out of his hair.

“for fucks sake you two, you never told me you were going to cover the whole living room in confetti you asshats.”

“well you never told us we couldn’t,” jack shrugs at nico’s words, clearly very proud of their small contribution to nico’s romantic gesture.

the three start bickering back and forth, arguing over who’s going to clean the living room up and if jack or luke has to pay for the cleaners to come in and remove the million pieces of paper.

still trying to process if what you just witnessed really happened, you come back to your sense a bit and interrupt the argument.

“wait, wait wait wait,” you gain their attention, standing up as the three men in front of you fall silent, watching you dust off all the confetti that landed on you. “nico…we’ve been dating for two years…why are you asking me to be your valentine?”

nico stares at you through the silence, his face void of any previous emotion.

“you know, it’s so funny you ask him that, because i said the same thing when he ordered this ridiculous thing the other day after practice,” jack is the one to break the silence, causing nico to turn and give him a glare that could kill.

“cap, it’s a valid question. i mean, wouldn’t this kind of be pre-dating stuff? not ‘already living together and sleeping together every night’ stuff?” luke chimes in, his comment earning a slight growl from nico before the scene erupts into chaos once again.

nico lunges towards luke, luke screams and runs behind the couch, jack is laughing so hard he’s bent over, nico is having a stand off with luke trying to gauge which direction he’s going to run, and you’re standing there, in the middle of it all.

once luke makes a run for it, nico started chasing him throughout the apartment, managing to get just within reach enough to rip the diaper off of his body, a now naked-looking luke streaking through the space.

“good lord what did i sign myself up for?” you ask jack, who’s just now coming down from his fit of giggles and laughter.

“happy valentine’s day, mrs. cap. you’re stuck with us.” jack answers, wiping at his eyes.

“well, i didn’t technically say yes before all hell broke loose,” you point out, hearing a squeal, letting you know nico caught up to luke.

“pshhh, as if you’d say no and deny yourself of all this fun.”

nico comes around the corner, pulling luke by his ear and handful of curls, mumbling to him about how he needs to apologize to you for making an inappropriate comment involving your sex life with nico, even though it wasn’t even the worst that’s ever been said to you.

“nah, you’re right, i couldn’t ever say no. i’d miss you all too much,” you think about how comical the whole thing has really been, the entertainment way better than the long forgotten movie still playing on the tv behind you.

Sbr is only mildly morally ambiguous and that’s okay

okay so the title is misleading 🫣 this is just a short examination of Johnny v Valentine (and Johnny & Valentine) with a little analysis of the confrontation.

for me valentine’s defining character trait isn’t his patriotism but that’s he’s a massive fucking liar. excellent writing for a politician. the only promise he ever kept was the one he made to lucy not to harm steven. and even then valentine is also super vindictive, so even though he didn’t kill him he made sure to torture him a little. Valentine is not at all the magnanimous man he presents himself to be and the constant discrepancy between his words and his actions proves that. when he’s trying to trick johnny into ending the rotation he hits all correct appeals but johnny knows in his gut that this man is a liar.

sometimes ppl act like sbr proposes a huge moral quandary about valentine’s intentions and whether he was the one “walking the righteous path” all along. but there’s really not. that’s Johnny’s internal battle. Since nick’s death johnny believed himself to be a curse / burden / bad person, but through the race he undergoes several trials that end in self-improvement and learning to have grace with himself. by the end of the narrative Johnny has evolved into someone who does have the strength of character and integrity necessary to judge the actions of someone else, whether he believes it or not, and regardless of whether he feels the right to. So yes, johnny was right to kill valentine. there’s no ifs or buts about it. the true brutality and cruelty of Valentine’s ideal world was very clearly portrayed in the way D4C Love Train functions. the corpse appeared to ‘choose’ Valentine by granting him Love Train, but at the same time it was also healing Johnny. if we look at the corpse through the lens of it primarily being a tool used to achieve the collector’s desires, we see that it empowered both Valentine and Johnny and indirectly or not set them on a collision course with each other. Perhaps there was a question of who was ‘righteous’ for the corpse itself, but the narrative itself tells us over and over again that it’s Johnny.

look at it this way. Johnny, who for most of his life believed he was spiritually and later physically damaged beyond hope, was empowered through the corpse and ended the narrative with a new chance at life. Valentine, who desired a world where not just America would prosper, but where he would be the head of said prospering state, and embody the power behind it, was granted the ability to achieve that world. Yet during their confrontation, the callous cruelty and negative consequences of Valentine’s vision is made apparent over and over again. First with Lucy, then with the innocents killed ‘somewhere else’, and lastly with Gyro and Johnny. Valentine’s actions always betray the truth of his intentions; once he proposed the deal, should Johnny have accepted, he intended to backstab Johnny and kill him the moment he got what he wanted. If he had truly been the ‘righteous one’, he would have kept his word and left Johnny alone once the rotation was reversed. But leaving Johnny alive would have meant he was no longer the most powerful man in the room, and that idea is something Valentine can’t stand.

Valentine is not a good person with good intentions. He claims to care about America, yet throughout the story discards his men and citizens like bugs (consider the train engineer). His actions continually demonstrate the reality: Valentine is power-hungry, petty, vindictive, ruthless, and above all else, a manipulative liar.

Valentine’s patriotism is the motivation behind his actions, but his brutality and deceptiveness defines those actions and is evident in everything he does. The implicit reason Alt!Diego failed was because he believed Valentine. By the end of the story there shouldn’t be a question on whether Valentine or Johnny was in the right. Valentine was the villain and he needed to be defeated. His ‘righteous’ world was, unequivocally, wrong.

The Acolyte idea about Mae’s master:

There’s not much to go off of other than some very exposition-y dialogue between Qimir and the other characters since we’ve only had two episodes of him, but it’d be interesting if he turned out to be Mae’s master.

It would explain his weird and unsurprised delivery of the line “You really do look just like her” when Osha tries to get info in the apothecary, considering she’s supposed to be dead as far as that character knows, and the rest of his dialogue with Mae after that is laying some (unfortunately very obvious and tell-not-show) clues for Mae to pay attention to the fact Osha is allied with the Jedi and has an attachment to Sol and their master ‘needs’ her to kill a Jedi without a weapon or he’ll kill her, it’s not impossible to do, etc etc. He’s conveniently there to watch her progress the whole time and see what she does, he knew where Kelnacca was, and he knows (from an again-obvious and frankly baffling exposition monologue) that Mae decided to go rogue at the end of the fourth episode

I know the master could be somebody entirely independent and Qimir is just a supporting character but the season’s at its halfway mark and it would feel more compelling to work with the characters we’ve already introduced, especially if the showrunners still want this story to be somewhat of a mystery in the ways the mystery genre works.

Awaaaah! Im doing pretty ok!!! Taking time to answer this as a wind down from Emerald Weapon Ex Brain Soupage. And I’m so glad! ;W; I think I butchered one of those “Get To Know An OC” thingies- uhh… oh [this one] actually! I chopped a lot out and I think added a couple different thingums instead because there was so much to that that it felt overwhelming to try to look at let alone fill out LOL but it was a really good jumping off point uvu;

And!!! Hilariously Chuu was my First XIV Character, so she’s dear to my heart for being the first one- but she very quickly made it known being the WOL even as an AU was something of a Joke (Her character showed great reluctance and even frustration at having to do So Much World Saving, maybe a side-effect of me rushing through MSQ to catch up with my other spouse [Who plays Talia, though they’ve got less time for XIV these days ;0;] and the rest of my friends who were all EndGame already at the time in Shadowbringers fhdjfjsjfs.) So I made…… many alts. Throwing spaghetti at the wall but I have SEVERE side-character/NPC brain and kept making “supporting cast” types =w=; it actually took me like. 3? Alts before making an ACTUAL WoL with my husband (Ishi’li and Kizuna) (as of Right Meow, they’re in post ARR, but we’ve been working on Keathan and Tuesday together because Keathan was… Keathan’s first character in xiv XD so we’ve been jaunting through the story together and experiencing every inch of it so we can pick and choose what The Boys™ get up to when we wanna focus on them x3)

🥰 I knew both speece during at least high school- but I actually knew Keathan as early as Elementary school hehe 😌 tho the speece didn’t proper marry until… i’unno, 2017? (For frustrating legal reasons, I’m not legally married, but. As it goes. Someday we’ll have money to visit the one state that has legal poly marriages. Also I struggle to remember our wedding year 🫢)

Since managing to make a Co-WoL with my husband I’ve managed to make one other Alt meant to be a Solo-WoL (Mochiie) but I have to really wrinkle my brain to sink time into playing him, since I’m trying to take screenshots throughout the story at what I find to be inspiring beats xD And even still he has an alt-universe where he’s just a side-character for the ‘Main Timeline’ (where there’s a bunch of spaghetti and like 8+ confirmed WoL’s and the Msq entourage looks HILARIOUS in canon, someday I’ll get all the data together and take pictures, but I think it’ll cook what’s left of my brain x’3) [it’s less concrete than anything I’ve posted about before or I’d try to explain it ;v;’ it’s just interesting mostly to see how the story gets stretched to fit around a larger community of heroes than a solo guy shouldering the whole burden lmfao.]
