Was the fire nation essentially trying to “speed run” to the fire nation avatar during the 100 year war?

Stick with me here, please. I have not heard this theory before. So my thoughts are as follows. If you look at the timeline of avatar you notice that the fire nation started its raids on the southern water tribe roughly 10-20 years after the air nomad genocide. We can use grangran and Hama as indicators for this as they were present during that time. The raids had the fire nation kidnap, not kill, only waterbenders. Then moved them into cells. Then suddenly they stopped when katara was roughly 5 or so. Now some say it’s because Hama escaped. That could be a factor but Hama escaped when she was roughly 30. Years prior to the raids end. My theory is that they were going after the next avatar in the cycle, a southern water tribe member.

After the fire nation thought they got the water avatar they would have moved to the next element in the cycle, Earth. They started rounding up earthbenders and putting them in metal prisons. Something at the time they couldn’t bend. They were, like with the waterbenders, keeping them alive. Now to me the one prison we saw looked old. So they were probably doing this roughly halfway through the war. And we can guess that the one we saw wasn’t the only prison there was.

Now onto the final bit. Once they got to the fire nation avatar, then what? Who’s going to teach them the other 3 elements? Remember how they kept all these people alive? The fire nation also had sky bison hidden away, whether that was known to the fire lord or not we don’t know… Regardless, once they got back to fire in the cycle they had an ample supply of water, earth, and airbenders.

this post is fearmongering. the results of this study are concerning and should definitely be a matter of public discussion, but this is certainly not the conclusion the researchers came to.

the point of the study was to assess the risks of exposure to toxic metals- something one of the co-authors notes are “ubiquitous” fwiw- via menstrual products. Their research confirmed that these metals are indeed present in tampons, but no further conclusions are drawn. it is possible the metal entered into the cotton from the soil, which is a well-known phenomenon; cotton is so good at lifting heavy metals that it has actually been suggested as a part of the solution for revitalizing polluted ground.

the authors conclude with an acknowledgement that the study should be repeated- their sample size was 60 tampons- and a suggestion that further testing ought to be done to indicate whether or not these metals can even leech out of the tampon in the first place, let alone whether or not such leeching could occur at levels deleterious to human health.

there is, in fact, a body of research- too small, for sure, but much larger than this single study- indicating that long-term proper tampon use has no observable negative impact on health. i am grateful and thrilled that more research is being done and i hope that this study is the first of many on this line of questioning, but i am really frustrated at this post and the response it got.

obviously, if this study alters your approach to menstrual health, more power to you. consumers should be informed-risk-takers, and menstrual health is double-obviously a very personal choice. but it definitely wasn't the researchers concluding that you ought to “avoid using tampons at all cost," only this tumblr user did. the lead author of the paper, in fact, specifically says that she hopes people do NOT panic about the results.

(the notes of the post were disappointing. people affirming that they knew they were right to be suspicious of tampons all along, or even recommending alternatives that actually have very little to no research regarding the safety of long-term use, etc. it’s a different conversation, but categorical distrust of tampons is old-school misogyny. you certainly shouldn't wear them if you don’t want to, but there is nothing inherently scary or wrong about them, and people who prefer them are not being reckless or crass.)

What’s up with how the dunmeshi fandom just lies about this kind of stuff all the time. It is easily confirmable information that it was a monthly series, something incredibly common in the industry.

A not weekly magazine schedule is literally common !! Especially in the seinen shoujo and josei demographics, sometimes monthly, sometimes biweekly, sometimes every two months, sometimes seasonal! Please stop lying about how Dunmeshi was some special unique creation that defies all standards of manga just to hype it up because it is so clear that every single one of these comparisons is centered around Weekly Shonen Jump (and understand that SJ has many magazines under its brand that are monthly or semimonthly). Not everything is WSJ and it needs to stop being the only point of reference in conversations like this 🤧

I would hype it up more but this is really really simple. It randomly generates a set of symbols, colors, and a word, and then the expected thing to do with those is you draw some sort of character based off the result you get. So it's just an art challenge toy thingy.

There are also some practical features like you can lock parts of the result in place to rerandomize the rest, or hide parts of the generation you don't care about (like if you want to pick your own colors or hate the words being there)

It should run in browser, but there's also a downloadable version for Windows if you want to use it offline. (No mac/linux versions for now, because I don't have appropriate computers to test those on and I...don't want to deal with mac's developer accounts or whatever their problem is...)

Black dog.

There’s a black dog following me and I don’t know what to do. Its presence looms over me day and night, its growls and barks ring throughout my head and hurt. A constant ringing headache fills my senses constantly. I’m not living day to day, I’m trying to survive. I’m trying to survive its bites, the way it claws at my skin and eats my essence. The way its jagged teeth tear into me and not allow me to be whole. Every day I live is a day I get a piece of myself torn away from me. A day I live in discomfort.

I can feel it trying to get to my middle, trying to get my heart and soul so it can tear those apart to the way it is doing to my body. I can feel its claws tearing me to shreds and leaving me less of a person than I was before.

The dog scares away those around me. When they get too close, it bares its teeth at them and barks until they run away. It wants me to be alone so it can strike. It’s waiting for my most vulnerable moments to go for my heart. It knows it is winning.

I can scare it away sometimes; it leaves with its tail between its legs and whines escaping its mouth. But it's as if I have a magnetic force, since it always returns. It keeps itself at a distance, it waits for me to let my guard down so it can strike again and make it all the more painful. Its presence is always looming over me.

I know the dog is hungry. I can feel it in the way it eats me alive, its slobbering jaws taking as much as it can and leaving me with nothing. But even with the hunger its patient, its waiting. And I know it’s waiting.

I’m hungry too. But my patience is running thin. I have been waiting for an out for too long, and now I know that only I can feed myself and fill this empty pit inside me.

I’ve grown fond of the black dog following me. It is there when others aren’t. I know it’s the reason why I'm alone, but I have reached a point where I’m happy for anything. I know the dog wants to consume me, and I am letting it.

My death is going to be art. I hope no one forgets it. I hope the very mention of my name sends a dagger into the heart of those who know me. I hope that they think of me when a certain song on the radio plays and they get reduced to tears. I hope they feel sick.

I know this will feed the dog, and I’m happy about that. Because the dog is the closest thing I have to myself. I’m hungry too. I’m angry. I bare my teeth at those who get too close, I scare those away from me and run with my tail between my legs. I tear myself apart and leave myself a lesser person, I bite and claw at my skin, I too am attempting to get to my heart, as I want to know if it exists. I want to know if it beats just like the others, if it has the same kind of love like anyone else. I want to know if its real, and not just another lie I have made up to comfort myself. I set myself on fire so I can feel the warmth.

Ok I’m being so brave about it but a couple of days ago I saw this post claiming that the Jedi saying ‘this weapon [your lightsaber] is your life’ is emblematic of ‘the Jedi’s failure as peacekeepers’ (not an exact quote but pretty close) because why would a weapon be the life of a peacekeeper?

And like. The Jedi are a culture. They’re a religion.

You know that, right? You know that many cultures, including generally peaceful ones, have sacred weapons, right? You know that the bond between a Jedi and their crystal(s) is an extremely sacred thing that requires the consent of both parties and is integral to their way of life, right?

You know that lightsabers are not intended to be only for killing, right? That the first thing Luke learns to do with his lightsaber is to shield and defend? You know that a culture having sacred weapons doesn’t mean that they view killing as sacred, right?
