On the Matter of Quirk Counseling
So one of the hot-button issues of the fan base is the subject of Quirk Counseling. That it's this horrific practice done to "deviants" like Himiko to make them normal, and it's what turned her into the person she is today. And with the ending, people thought that Uraraka working to spread it out over the country was a terrible thing and was only going to make more problems. Naturally, this is something I disagree with. At least, to the extent the fanbase takes it.
Tumblr media
We're told that Quirk Counseling is a program that helps the youth understand and adjust to living in modern society. However, as we see with Himiko and her flashbacks, this kind of process can end up isolating people who don't fit in with that society. A pretty grim perspective on the world. However, I don't think it's the most reliable one. This is the kind of perspective we get from Chitose, who is someone who is radically opposed to how society handles Quirks and wants to destroy it, and Toga, someone who was hurt by this same process. So I think that paints a specific picture of the practice. One that may not be entirely true.
Because in spite of being such a big part of a major villain, we know very little about what Quirk Counseling entails. We're told by Midnight that every kid goes through Quirk Counseling during elementary school. So every character in the series must have undergone this same process at some point. During Tamaki's flashback, we see something like this going on in middle school. People being taught how to use their Quirks, at least in a basic way. This is later reinforced during the Remedial Course Arc, where the whole point is the heroes helping to teach kids about their powers. All in all, it doesn't seem that terrible, and it seems to work with a lot of people in the world.
Tumblr media
This all paints a different picture of what exactly Quirk Counseling entails. Because when we see it in action, it's mostly just teaching people how to use their Quirks and helping them understand their own powers. Which isn't a bad thing. Quirks can be very dangerous and wild, even from a young age. It's important you know how it works, whether it be how it functions or how to use it. Better yet, how not to use it. Because, as we have seen, the unchecked usage of Quirks is going to be dangerous for everyone involved. Values like this need to be put into kids at a young age to keep any kind of peace or stability in the broader world. And it seems to work.
Himiko is an odd case within the world. Someone whose Quirk had a potent effect on their interests and personality, more so than any other person we've seen. She is an outlier. A deviant. Yet she was still a little girl that needed help. Maybe, if she had gotten the right help, she wouldn't be the person she is today. And that is part of the tragedy of Himiko. That the concept of normality has been so enforced that they can't even hope to properly help Himiko. The problem wasn't the system itself. The problem came in its inefficiency to handle cases like Himiko. Outliers that couldn't handle possibly fit within the brackets of "normal." And when all that pressure comes down on someone, they will eventually break under it.
It's why I don't think that Quirk Counseling growing is the problem everyone tries to make it out to be. Uraraka's helping to expand the system that is meant to help and teach kids about their powers. We've seen how that can help troubled kids. The Remedial Course is the prime example of that, where it's something that works with the kids rather than trying to strongarm them. And with that system growing, it will help to prevent cases like Himiko. It can help the kids learn about themselves and their powers. It can show kids not how to be "normal." But what they're going through isn't something they have to be afraid of and can live with. Just as Himiko could have. Expanding this isn't disrespecting her. It's keeping other kids to suffer like she did.

video taken from shahed's instagram follow: @shahednhall verification source (no. 224 on el-shab-hussein/nabulsi's list)
"I like to photograph everything. I like to collect special shots because the memory is not repeated. I like to make it in my memory and the memory of everyone. I did not like to share the destruction. I did not like to share the life that has become black and white despite this reality, but my message is to show the beauty of my family and how much they deserve life. I do not want them to appear in a picture they do not like and do not want anyone wish for it. The lens of my camera will continue to transmit the most beautiful shots. Get up, fight for me, a new danger that presses
I hope you save my life before it's too late.🙏💔"
- shahed (please read & share full post here)
no one should have to showcase their suffering for others to care. sadly, people only seem to mobilize after something truly horrific happens. i am begging you all not to wait for the next tragedy. there is no pause button, no reprieve, no escape from the suffering these families face on a daily basis. they all need your help now.
if you don't know her already, shahed is a 21 year old who used to be a student at al-azhar university before the genocide began. with both her parents having taken ill, she is the sole provider for her family right now, including her five siblings, youngest of whom is just a baby.
shahed is currently trying to put together an evacuation fund for her younger sisters (who have hepatitis and are severely ill.) they were recently removed from the clinic where they were getting treated due to overcrowding/because there were more pressing cases to be attended to, likely because of the massacres that took place days ago and are still happening today.
there is no room left for people's complacency-- it's okay if you're unable to donate right now-- what's not okay is assuming others will pick up your slack. just because your dash is full of 🍉content doesn't mean that's the case for others. you taking a second out of your day to spread shahed's campaign brings her that much closer to her goal. please do whatever you can to help her out.
SHAHED NEEDS TO REACH $40K USD BY THE END OF THE JULY IN ORDER TO GET HER FAMILY TO SAFETY
current stats: $34,137 raised

Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a child of one of the Kingdom's noble families, you were subject to your family's many plans to maintain its standing in society. At every tail end of the Lone Moon since you turned six, when winter wraps Faerghus in its tightest and most frigid embrace, you would find yourself in the Dukedom of Fraldarius, under the watchful but caring gaze of Uncle Rodrigue, or that was what he encouraged you to call him. He said his eldest son already had a match, his betrothed a lady of a noble house too. Rodrigue wished Felix to forge the same warm friendship and companionship that Glenn and Ingrid already had... with someone. Someone he would come to love in the future. Rodrigue silently hoped that it would be you.
"...a love match," the older man said, his voice fading in the background as Felix, a boy dressed in the distinct Fraldarius blue, stepped out from behind his mother's skirts at her gentle urging.
"Say hello, cub," the lady of the house said in a tone so dulcet that it made the heat rise to your face. The boy's shy brown eyes met yours and somehow your young heart figured that you two could make things work. From what you remember, your parents were a love match— an extraordinary one, the kind many thought wouldn't work out but eventually did.
"Hello," you broke the silence with a single greeting and a smile that told him, let's work things out. "Shall we make our New Year's resolutions together?"
And every year, by the fireplace, next to his parents' blanketed feet, you and Felix whispered your resolutions for the new year in each other's ears, both of you looking forward to the fresh set of pages in a storybook that was yours to fill out and create.
"I want my swordsmanship to improve..." "I want to read more books..." "I want to get taller still..." "I want to get better at casting magic..."
In 1177, Felix stopped making resolutions, which wasn't all surprising.
Felix had no idea where to put this grief. You coaxed him out of his room at his mother's behest, but he had no words for you. When you held him in your arms as best you could, he barely moved himself.
You were present with House Fraldarius when they held a memorial for Glenn, a true knight of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, or so Rodrigue said, and not even your soothing touch could quell Felix's fist, his entire body seizing in a tempered rage he tried his best to contain. He was not the only one who lost a loved one, after all. And yet, he couldn't stomach how his father glazed over his eldest son's death. No words of embellishment will take away the fact that Glenn was killed horrifically in the Tragedy of Duscur. Felix would resent his father for that.
In 1178, when Prince Dimitri unlocked a certain bloodlust whilst suppressing an insurrection in west Faerghus, you were half-certain Felix might have developed the same grisly instinct, but you were relieved to find out that he was blatantly disgusted by the boar's unhinged behaviour.
In 1180, you entered the Officers Academy along with the other scions of the Kingdom's noble houses. As Felix grew into a swordsman of exceptional skill, he also kept you at an arm's length away, but again, that did not surprise you at all. You were a distraction to him, more or less, and he would appreciate you more if you showed yourself less to him. It was then you realised that he always sought you out at his own pace, that he desired your presence still, but only on his call.
"It's fine. It doesn't have to be me, as long as you're happy, Felix." "No," he hastily grabbed your hand. "It has to be you."
Felix brought you home with him when the Officers Academy closed its doors due to the internal strife simultaneously occurring in Faerghus, Adrestia and Leicester. It was then he became Duke Fraldarius, the Shield of Faerghus, and you, the lady of his house. When the war gong was struck, you stood by your husband rather than shying away from the fighting. Being Felix's assigned healer during your short stay at the Officers Academy granted you certain synchronicity with him. The two of you worked seamlessly beside each other, and he moved in complete confidence that you would have his back if no one else did.
The war against Adrestia raged on for months, until it converged to a year, and it felt like you were the only one keeping tabs on the days that passed. The calluses in your hands thickened like the snow that usually blanketed Fraldarius this time of the year.
This time of the year...
"What are you doing?"
Your reverie was broken by your husband's query. It was still so odd to think that you two were married now, even though that was exactly what Rodrigue— your father-in-law— wanted from the start.
"Almost lost track of time because of how long this war's been dragging," you shrugged at him. "Happy New Year. Or not. We'll probably be asleep at the turning of the new moon."
Felix caught the quick twinkle in your eyes, his lips softening to a small smile that caught you off-guard. He stepped into your space and slipped his gloved hand in yours, pulling you further into the privacy of his quarters and straight into his arms.
"Felix?..."
"I want to be a better husband to you."
His voice was hushed to a whisper, and you could only blink to yourself as he held you much tighter. His breath was warm against your neck and it was there you noticed just how fast his heart was beating.
"I..." You started, only for a gentle laugh to leave your lips. "I want to be a better lady of the house."
He chuckled in relief when you returned his embrace, his hair coming undone from its ribbon just in time as you pressed a tender kiss to his cheek.
"Happy New Year, Duke Fraldarius."
Felix returned your gesture in kind, his lips stealing the warmth of your breath not long after. He still can't believe he played right into his father's hands the moment the old man introduced you to him— one of the very few things he is truly thankful for. Now he gets to call you his, he gets to protect you as part of his home, and he is yours, too.
"Happy New Year, my wife."

as much as i understand shigaraki's death, narratively speaking, i'm also so goddamn tired of society needing martyrs.
what made me fall in love with shigaraki is that he's an excellent villain. all his character development built towards him becoming a more competent, driven, effective villain. he became an incredible symbol of fear just as deku became an incredible symbol of peace. this is who he was, in entirety. there is nothing else shigaraki could be.
when shigaraki told izuku, in his final moments, to pass on the message to spinner that "shigaraki fought to destroy until the very end," it really emphasized how it would have dishonored him to be vegeta'd, as it were.
shigaraki made it his mission to tear down hero society. this was his noble mission. this is what made him a hero to the league of villains. because he saw the systemic evils, he saw the evils that hurt his friends, and sought to destroy it all.
there's something to be said about trying to change someone who doesn't want to change, but for shigaraki, it was more than just trying to rehabilitate him from mass murdering. because to him, and the league of villains, what he was doing WAS the right thing. to tell shigaraki not to destroy would be akin to telling deku not to save. "you may not understand, but that's what makes me the villain."
there was a binary choice here: either he'd be left free to complete his mission and destroy everything, or he'd be stopped, permanently.
Izuku, by reaching tenko's heart, but ultimately stopping shigaraki, was choosing the only third option he had: declaring that he would not let all of society be destroyed, but not without promising that he'd do everything he can to reform it here on out.
shigaraki destroys. deku saves.
that's it. that's the bnha narrative in its most basic foundation. horikoshi did not fail to tell that story.
I think what ultimately fucking sucks about this ending is that it's too realistic. society often DOES need a martyr - or often martyrs - to realize that they fucked up, that they let an evil persist too long. they need a shocking enough tragedy to point to and swear they'll never let it happen again. society needs to be rocked to its very core before people can be motivated to get their heads out of their asses and work together towards reforms.
and that in itself is an evil, that people can't see how much harm they're causing or condoning without some horrific tragedy.
i think we're all mad at horikoshi for failing to follow through on the story because we didn't WANT the realistic ending. we wanted the hopeful one. the against all odds one. we didn't want another story about society using the image of martyrs to get its shit together. because we already know that story. and we're so so so tired of it.
especially when we know it only leads to a temporary peace.
because people forget. they put in enough reforms to feel good, and then get comfortable and ignorant again. when does that cycle end? when can we finally notice the evil in time to PREVENT it? so that everyone, 'heroes and villains,' get a happy ending?
I think our anger with the bnha ending is good. we want different - not just in fiction, but in real life. we're willing to hope for different. we should hold onto hope and fight for different.

ok serious posting time now i think
let me lay down for this (i am laying down)
i am overwhelmed with emotion that jon says like "maybe everything works out, and we end up somewhere else" after telling martin to kill him
because like. like it doesn't work out. they end up somewhere else, but with the knowledge you have as the viewer with tmagp coming out, we know it doesn't work out.
they don't even get like to rest, like they don't get to die. like the note that tma leaves jon and martin on is doomed. and like... without tmagp, it could have been more hopeful, had you chosen to believe that?
like their ending is still so horrifically tragic, but tma pre-tmagp, jon's statement of hope was ambiguous and could be pursued, it could still be hopeful.
ROCKS BACK AND FORTH. BUT WE HAVE TMAGP. AND WHILE... SURE, WE DON'T EXACTLY KNOW THEIR FATES, BUT WE KNOW THAT JON AND MARTIN DID NOT ESCAPE THIS NARRATIVE.
SO NOW IT CANNOT BE A HOPEFUL STATEMENT. NOW, WE, THE AUDIENCE, KNOWS THE FUTILITY OF JON EVEN TRYING TO HAVE HOPE FOR THE TWO OF THEM FOR EVEN A SECOND? like I CANNOT. i cant even articulate it because it's more about whats not happening??? its about the potential? the hope of it all??
LIKE HOW CAN I EXPLAIN THE SHRIMP EMOTIONS THIS LIKE GAP???? GIVES ME??? THE LIKE. GAP BETWEEN WHAT JON SAYS AND WHAT WE KNOW HAPPENS NEXT. ITS NOT "MAYBE IT ALL WORKS OUT." THATS FOR DAMN SURE
and like ik... like maybe it DOES work out in tmagp.
but like... bare with me here, meld ur mind with me. theres a lot of tragedy in that moment and the moment that follows because the characters have no idea what immediately comes next, but we do know what comes immediately after? which is NOT an escape from the narrative. like even if it could work out for them within tmagp, it doesn't take away from the deep ache of knowing how far they still have to go? that it isn't okay, that wherever they went, it wasn't them being "okay."
this is really surface level, i dont have anything insightful to say it just made me cry. like i was very emotionally overwhelmed at the fact that the one time jon actively put effort into being hopeful, like idealistically so, that like maybe he even let himself want and hope and mean what he said, that it was a futile wish.
like... jon's hope juxtaposed by the hopelessness of the narrative got me man. the Dramatic Irony of it all really fucking got my ass.

Taglist here.
Three OCs from various series for each of the three quizzes. 16 Main Archetype Quiz Here, Bullshit Aesthetic Quiz Here and Good Parent Quiz Here. Results below the cut:
Here's the 16 Archetypes quiz results for OCs from The UnTitledverse, The Silver Chronicles and Life, Despair & Monsters. Results below:
JOAQUIN COBALT (THE UNTITLEDVERSE)
Tumblr media
I don't think the Sidekick fits Joaquin's archetype, but he likely wishes he was. Though in his own self-perception, he's trying to compensate his accidental existence by trying to be something significant, despite the fact he doesn't believe he's much of anything than an accidental miracle.
SILVA OMAR (THE SILVER CHRONICLES (FAR CRY 5, FAR CRY NEW DAWN)
Tumblr media
Regret isn't the only thing Silva is filled with... trauma is a close second. However, ultimately I agree (mostly) with this archetype, unless I do a bit more research on Archetypes that is. But this result is pretty solid.
HAOYU ANABUKI (LIFE, DESPAIR & MONSTERS)
Tumblr media
I think this mostly applies to Haoyu way down later at the completion of their arc, though before all that they're a selfish little twerp.
Bullshit OC Aesthetic Quiz results for OCs from An Old Ballad Of Chance And Ember Hearts, A Radioactive Calamity Of Love, Bombs & Gore and lastly The UnTitledverse.
DISCORD, THE MAD KIN OF CARNAGE (AN OLD BALLAD OF CHANCE AND EMBER HEARTS TRILOGY)
Tumblr media
I don't think this fits Discord at all. He is literally a walking wasteland, everything around him reverts to its most basic form (which is eventually nothing). He is as close as to the embodiment of the end as possible, but as well as a abhorrent denial rebirth. He just destroys things, lets it wither away horrifically. He's more close to the dirt than he is to flesh.
ELRAND BRANDT (A RADIOACTIVE CALAMITY OF LOVE, BOMBS & GORE (FALLOUT (1997))
Tumblr media
I don't think Twilight is an aesthetic for Elrand. However, due to living in a post apocalyptic world, I think it would smell a bit like old burns. I don't know just my take on it.
MARU (THE UNTITLEDVERSE)
Tumblr media
Being an Illusion Spirit, I think this aesthetic fits Maru very well. She is after all dead and does work for the Wicked, which are mostly made up of dead and evil spirits.
Lastly is the "Is Your OC a Good Parent Quiz" which dear god, I hope everyone from The Silver Chronicles gets a good result.
SILVA OMAR (THE SILVER CHRONICLES [FAR CRY 5, FAR CRY NEW DAWN])
Tumblr media
Silva is definitely a good parent... I'd argue a great one even! Though she can be a bit overprotective but that's not abnormal considering all she's been through. She fought Paul and the Apostles of Zachariah to get back Persephone (even if that ended in tragedy), and went rogue to fight for a peace between Eden's Gate and the Resistance after given some perspective from Azriel. That's not even to mention everything she does for Azriel (and Mercy) when the Congregation of Adam's Guard arrive in Silva's Hope and the Highwaymen in Old Dusk.
PAUL YELLOWJACK (THE SILVER CHRONICLES [FAR CRY NEW DAWN])
Tumblr media
In her adolescence he was. Paul was what Silva needed at the time; someone supportive, understanding, and loving. He raised her into the morally strong woman she is today. However, that's not to say his darker aspects which he develops more late in life weren't present. The thing about Paul, while raising Silva, was that he was sometimes overbearing, possessive/co-dependent and had a fear that she'd abandon him, something that worsens after he finds out she's alive (years after the Tumultite Massacre and answering "The Call" and founding the Apostles of Zachariah), and since he lost his morals over the years and had Zachariah of all entities as his guidance, he's not above breaking Silva down for her "betterment"... though he does realize he goes too far after murdering Persephone in retaliation of Silva dismantling the Apostle's operations and killing his fellow heralds. Even after his resurrection/reincarnation, he still cares for her, but is too trapped in his self-loathing to break away from his dark path.
KAMSKI NEON, THE GOOD DOCTOR (THE SILVER CHRONICLES (FAR CRY 5)]
Tumblr media
I'd say Kamski's kind of a good parent, just an overprotective helicopter parent is all. I also believe that he's the kind of parent who'd be like "my opinion is correct and everyone else is wrong so you best listen to me". Irene, his blood daughter, likely never questioned this, but after her death and the Tumultite Massacre, when he reunites with Silva, they're basically the only family they have left, so Kamski pretty much pushes this harder onto Silva which is something they have to work through... as well as the pressure and the responsibility he burdens her with too. There's also the fact of trust, since Kamski goes behind Silva's back more often than not when they disagree on something and lies to her about it. So yeah, it's very "so-so" with me. He's good parent with good intentions however he does do some drastic shit since he thinks he knows best plus his "us vs them" attitude with him and Silva as the "us" and literally everyone else as the "them".
FATHER ADAM OMAR (THE SILVER CHRONICLES [FAR CRY 5])
Tumblr media
"Bad Parent" and "Too Harsh" is an understatement when it comes to Adam; he's an absolute irredeemable evil hypocritical piece of shit who abuses and murders his children. Silva and Elsa were just the most recent pair out of who knows (me, I know) how many, and the longest surviving too. Adam's a dictator who uses his status as a Prophet to oppress others and is extremely bigoted and xenophobic to the point he doesn't bat an eye when causing a massacre of his slave labour... or when invading Montana. Fuck this guy, I can't wait to write his death.

New AU idea. The Zombie Apocalypse AU I wrote a lot of for Whumptober is actually just Remus getting carried away with a project for his film class. Mishap by Moonlight (which I initially wrote last year) was initially the whole project, but Remus got carried away with the writing and filming and conned everyone into going along with it.
Just about everything stays the same except for Logan’s mentor within the zombie storyline is only emotionally/mentally abusive and doesn't actually touch him because while Remus would in fact write something like that, he's not going to ask his friend to play that out for his project. Remus still writes his character as killing Marcus and still writes Marcus as getting creepy with him, as a way of coping with some actual abuse he's dealing with. This scene prompts Logan to talk to him about some abuse he's also actually dealing with from his advisor.
At some point between filming Remus is in a car accident or something and actually loses his leg and due to his commit to the bite disease just writes it into the script that Janus cuts off his leg to avoid weird continuity stuff and so he doesn't have to try hide his prosthetic.
Remus deliberately writes Logan and Thomas as idiots to lovers because they're genuinely idiots to lovers and he's subtly trying to help them out. It actually works to his surpise and the little heart to heart scene he writes for their characters actually gets them talking. He also writes Emil and Roman as partners because they've also been skirting around each other for two years and he can't take it anymore and hopes writing their characters as an established couple will help them sort it out.
Later on (which I am working on writing) Remus is plying around with some drams ideas and recruites his buddy Chris, who is taking an assortment of classes to figure out what he's actually passionate about after an accident he and his brother were in the year before and also has a penchant for the color green, to brainstorm ideas with him.
Chris everso helpful shrugs and suggests someone come after him as revenge for killing Marcus and in the process kills someone else. They draw names from a hat and Emile is the lucky victim.
Remus does love a good tragedy, but also find there's something to be said for the drama of a scare and writes two versions of the scene, one in which Emile dies and one where he doesn't. Day of filming comes around and no one bothered to double check that they were all on the same page leading to Roman thinking Emile is actually dead in a filming accident gone horrifically wrong.
The whole thing does end in a confession of feeling, but Remus does wish he could have accomplished this without traumatizing the shit out of his poor twin.
That said at the end of it he's two for two on the match making scene in this film project he's already turned in and gotten an A on, so when Chris jokingly offers up time traveling to stop the apocalypse it takes no time at all for Remus to agree, provided Chris can get Zach and the rest of his friend group involved. His reasoning behind this is that he can write in Jimmy's side project of designing a ship shaped like a turtle can be incorporated and actually turned into the time machine.
Somehow Chris actually manages to get everyone on board with Zach and Aviva being the hardest sells because they each have other projects that they're working on, Chris points out that once Remus is done with this for his class he could put it on YouTube and it would show off parts of their projects and they both agree. Koki's already been in on the project helping with post editing and all that couldn't careless to be in the production itself, but Jimmy convinces her to join in. The two bantering back and forth practically write their own parts, and Remus is pleased to find Martin has a surprising amount of commit to the bit disease himself and seems to be the only one to get Aviva to play along. This all works out really well for Remus, who's sole motivation for bringing such a big new group into the storyline is to once again play match maker, this time with Chris and Zach.
During filming at some point Zach falls ill and instead of trying to hide it or make Zach work through it, he just writes his character as suffering from anemia and malnutrition due to the apocalypse and has Zach use his wheelchair when he can or wants to show up. Little does he know that Zach is actually battling an eating disorder, the reason he's actually sick, it all comes to a head when Remus writes Zach's character as eating on screen and Zach breaks down about it, leading to Chris intervining and the two finally talking. (Remus immediately offers to delete the footage and rework things to cut out any mention of malnutrition. Zach agrees it's okay as long as he just curs out the last bit of filming.)
Remus is now three for three and Roman confronts him about his matchmaking habits. Remus admits that, yes, he's been doing this on purpose and hasn't tried to set up Remy, Patton, or Virgil in any way because they all just seem so settled in without being paired off and it would feel weird to try to set up two of them and just leave the other hanging. He's shocked when Roman tells him the three of them are an established ploycule and have been this entire time.

Ask game :D 1 and 11 for you-know-which-ship-I'm-talking-about!
Oooo... That ship, (sultry wink) oh yes, I know that ship...
Corinthiel, Daniel Hall x The Second Corinthian
1.What are some headcannons you have
Some of the headcanons? Oh I could write an essay on the headcanons I have for these two. I am 'unnaturally' obbsesed with them. But let's see...
They were made for each other... Literally.
There's nothing more intrinsically Morpheus then looking out for someone else's wellbeing over his own. And I truly believe he created the second Corinthian for his successor, despite what it meant for him. One of the second Corinthian's last orders from Morpheus was to find and keep Daniel Hall safe. And I don't think he meant just the human child. In recreating Cori when he did, Morpheus left Daniel a loyal protector, but more importantly a companion who knows exactly what is to be both new and old. To be yourself, yet someone else. To live in the shadow of someone, yet long for your own sense of individuality. He made it so they wouldn't feel alone in their struggles. That they had someone who saw 'them', not just who they were. Something that can form such an unbreakable bond....And I just...I need a moment.
Don't let the angel face fool you, Nightmare Daniel is a horrific little hell beast and the Corinthian loves it.
Daniel represents rebirth, new chances, hope... He's a kinder Dream, a softer Dream. More open and almost shy and unsure in his demeanour. However... His Nightmare side I can see as being one vindictive little fucker. There's that touch of humanity, of a child's greed and brutality in him that's going to make him SO much worse. I can picture the Corinthian being the one to take a step back and think, 'Well... Mark me down as scared and horny.'
Extra related headcanon: Corinthiel doesn't have to mean the end of Morpheus of you're looking to try it. ❤️
This is very indulgent headcanon, but I'm going to include it, as I think many in the fandom link this ship with tragedy and the loss of Dream. But I never really picture Morpheus as 'gone' when I think of Corinthiel. And not in a, Morpheus lives on in Daniel way. In a... Morpheus is fine, enjoying well deserved retirement and living it up with (Insert romantic partner of your choice) in the Waking. Thanking every deity he deems worthy for Lucienne and that his kingdom hasn't been left entirely in the hands of two overgrown, hormonal toddlers. Around one and four respectively. 😆
And if you ship Corintheus... Well the Corinthian has two hands doesn't he? 😅
11. Do you have a song that reminds you of them?
The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies
It's a song about finding utter peace and contentment with the one you love. And really think for the Corinthian, who knows pure hunger in so many forms. Well, that's what he finds with Daniel. ❤️
"If I could make a wish
I think I'd pass
Can't think of anythin' I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read
Making love with you
Has left me peaceful, warm, and tired
What more could I ask
There's nothing left to be desired
Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel
Go to sleep.
Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you."

So like, based on the latest annual, how the hell do you ship mimic with… anyone? Because the second he realised he’s feeling his “weakness” he’s going to cut them off permanently as fast as possible. The only reason he wouldn’t is if he couldn’t…
This dear Anon is what me and every other Mimic/Literally Anyone shipper is scattering our braincells to figure out 😅
I feel like the answer varies from ship & shipper. Some shippers want their pairings to be the sweetest, fluffiest things on the planet, no matter who the characters are. Others want their pair to be the most horrific gut-harvesting shakespearian tragedy that will leave you crying for hours. And some, like me, enjoy a mix of the two. All those opinions of how you want to ship your ship are valid.
But as for how I ship Starmimi personally after the annual's glimpse into Mimic's disturbing psychology......
The Bumblekast has told us that Starline's flirting skills are at best when trying to take advantage of someone while his attempts at flirting with someone he actually admires would be horrible because he doesn't know how to put someone on an equal level to him. Starline doesn't know how to step off his pedestal, let alone not put others on one above him.
We also know from the Bumblekast that Mimic is not afraid of pretending to be in love with someone for the LOLs and can keep up the act for long periods of time if he wishes.
So combining these aspects of the bastards together - It wouldn't actually be a huge surprise if they somehow ended up in a "relationship" in attempts of playing each other for fools.
Now, if you want to follow the Canon Timeline of the Bad Guys Mini series, it's a short sparked "relationship" that dies as quickly as it comes. Doomed by the narrative. But if you're playing with Canon Divergence &/or AUs, then we get the chemistry brewing.
Starline is keeping Mimic around while he's useful, and Mimic is sticking around in hopes of getting a better understanding of Starline's plans while furthering the time before the platypus contemplates taking his life.
Eventually, fake flirts slowly become real, and the emotions attached slowly become genuine, but both burry the mere possibility of that being true in good old ✨️DENIAL✨️ (aka every Slowburn enjoyers best friend)
This span of denial while maintaining true attachment gives them both the opportunity to understand each other and share softer moments as they both remain under their previous mindset of "playing each other for fools."
But with time, they will begin to realize these feelings and gestures are true and are genuine, and THAT is when Mimic's "weakness" comes in. Whether it's a confession, a meaningful gesture, or even a subtle sign of care- Mimic WILL get pushed over his edge and snap again. Thus, your angsty abandonment and attempted murder begins.
Starline is going to get thrown into an emotional storm when this happens as Mimic attempts to leave (or muder) the doctor, and honestly... It's kind of open-ended from there.
Starline might be able to break through to Mimic.
One might kill the other accidentally or intentionally.
Mimic might get away, leaving Starline an emotional trainwreck.
In all honestly, I am still trying to figure this all out. I think part of the appeal of Starmimi and other Mimic ships are the Angst and the Challenge.
Those who enjoy their ships to be as toxic as clorox wipes are going to have a great time making their ships suffer. Others like me are going to enjoy the challenge of making it work even when it's complicated.
I might reblog this one day with more input, but until then, I hope this answers your question to some degree. In all honestly, I think some of my fellow Starmimi shippers are scurrying around like that SpongeBob on Fire gif because we DID NOT see this coming.

Okay here's my another one:
Ready Or Not (2019)
I don't know where it's officially available, considering I have watched it through... Alternative means.
I have had a blast watching it, being both exciting and funny (some of the humor is very self aware), so I hope y'all can enjoy it too.
It's a horror film starring Grace, a young woman who couldn't possibly expect what awaits her at the wedding night with her new family (a horrific ritual game with a ghost, a lot of murder, multiple types of weapons and blood and children are involved and substance abuse and car accident at one point so trigger warnings for those)
Anyway this sounds ironic considering the movie starts out with a heterosexual Christian wedding, but I think it fits the aro friendly category, considering that
.
.
(Major Spoilers Ahead)
.
.
The bond between Grace and her new husband ultimately fails. Their loyalty to each other breaks, and it isn't portrayed as a tragedy but a Good For Her moment, because he was trash all along. There are hints to it from the beginning with how he makes selfish decisions, witholds information from her, and pats himself on the back for minimum effort attempts at being decent.
He dies and Grace lives, and it doesn't look in the end like she's going to enter a new romantic relationship any time soon.

thinking about this fucks me up so bad and makes me feel so sad for ortho actually akdsjgdsfghf 😭 like. yeah. idia and ortho love each other so much but at the same time it does make sense for idia to think that in his perfect world, he never would've experienced the horrific trauma of the original ortho's death and the new ortho would've never needed to exist. and that must be such a complicated feeling for both of them, especially now after idia has tried to let ortho go and stop "pretending" to be his brother but ortho chose to stay by his side. while for lilia, he's much older and more mature--he's grown to be happy with the life he has now and accepts the trauma and tragedies that he's been through as having been worth it in order to not only have silver in his life, but to have learned that he's capable of loving and being loved. so silver being in lilia's dream doesn't contradict things in the same way--lilia knows that getting to raise silver is his perfect happy ending. augh. book 7 is so good i'm in shambles. i hope this results in idia accepting things and affirming that he does love ortho and truly sees him as his brother now. that even if this isn't exactly his ideal life, it's the one he's got and he's happy ortho is in it.

So there is a book called Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell that is very good being a fictional telling of Shakespeare's son Hament dying of the plague. (I highly recommend it) It's sad but excellent dealing with grief and loss. Also, this past week I lost a friend from work and I'm thinking about how things happen so suddenly when you can still mentally play the mental tape of the last conversation you have with someone when you don't know it will be the last.
I was thinking though should we feel a bit peeved that River's story that started death had been turned into something romantic? Death of anyone is horrific (not romantic) and I've always hated stories that were more heavy-handed in the emotional manipulation of it. Will never read Nicholas Sparks. Always hated this horrible movie I still remember from childhood about this woman who was pregnant but also had cancer who died after she gave birth.
I would hate to think I fell for a melodrama. I might lose credibility for wondering if I should feel slighted since I'm asking the question of myself for the first time since The Husbands of River Song was broadcast.
My heart goes out to you and your friend's loved ones. I have lost people I cared about, and yes, it does feel sudden. The world stops. Even though in the back our heads we know life is ephemeral and fleeting, we still expect that person to be there tomorrow. It's painful when they're not. So please know, you have my sincerest condolences. May you find comfort and peace in this time.
To address your other comment about River, I don't feel peeved. You see, the thing about the Doctor and River is that technically speaking it's not a romance. It's a tragedy. The one unbreakable rule of the romance genre is that there must be a happy ending. The characters must be alive and end up together at the end of the story. If they don't, it's not a romance. It's either a tragedy or a drama.
Therefore, the Doctor and River Song are a tragedy with romantic elements. The story starts out with her death, and we witness the Doctor try to avoid her and put distance between them because he hopes to avert her death. One of the reasons I love The Day of the Doctor target novel by Moffat is that it shows us how the Doctor (10th and 11th incarnations) see River. When the Doctor looks at River, he sees a ghost. Every once in a while, she'll do something SO alive and it just makes him even more miserable because it reminds him how dead she already is. 10 explains in that book (to us the audience) that he plans to rewrite River's end by avoiding her, because he believes she deserves a happier life. In that book, the Doctor, through multiple incarnations, is still grappling with River's passing, unable to accept it. He blames himself because he failed to save her. Her death isn't romantic; it's traumatizing to him.
The Doctor and River both knew forever would be a fairy tale, but they still chose each other. They embraced the little time they had left. To me, theirs is a romance within a tragedy. The fact they still fell in love, still married, still became each other's best friends and most trusted allies, THAT is the romance. The romance is the love blossoming beneath the sorrow. Their unyielding commitment to each other was a beauty to behold laced with pain. The romance adds to the pain but also creates moments of levity, pockets of joy and laughter where they can hide from the shadows closing in.
The writing for them is stunning in its impact. We watch the death of a random character in S4 plague and torment the Doctor for the next six seasons as the Doctor wrestles with how to accept her death and move on. It's tragic, but it's real, and the tragedy doesn't take away the beauty.
Also, I skimmed a review of the book. This actually sounds like a GREAT recommendation, and the storytelling is nonlinear. Love stories like that (cough cough, doctor who). I might actually check it out! Thank you.

I wrote my currently impressions of Virche Evermore on r/vns and thought why not post it here as well?
Vage spoilers under the cut!
I played a lot of [Virche Evermore](https://vndb.org/v29661/chars) the past few weeks!
Virche Evermore is a dark scifi Otome Game which was well known for making players suffer through 4+ entire routes full of tragic endings until you get the chance to unlock better endings for everyone. The better endings might still not be really happy tho.
A sizeable trigger warning list made the rounds long before the game came out in english and the some reviews would called the game misery or torture porn.
I really like tragedies so I had to get the game, but I kept my expecations in check. Misery can come in many forms and there were tragic endings I absolutely hated before (Piofiore Orlock's tragic end made me skip a route).
I finished 4 routes now (only Despair endings) and I can confidently say that this game GETS me. It fits my taste for misery and fucked up-ness perfectly and I'm so happy.
The only downside in that this game has some true bullshit science lol
My biology university degree certainly made a face at some relevations. So uh I just pretend it's more plausible stuff instead. Just forget all your biology knowledge at the door and you're fine...
Some thoughts of the routes:
Mathis: Mathis is the rich, socially awkward and shy guy, who swore revenge on his brothers killer.
Def not my type of guy, but the build up in his route was very well done. So much foreshadowing which get's more and more in your face as time goes on, but it was hard to 100% point the finger to what was happening until the revealed happened. This really reminded my of Il of Café Enchante's route but like 1000% more horrifying. Despair End 2 was disgusting and horrific. It plays with your hopes and the "Power of Love" only to end in the worst possible way. It was so disgusting. I was so impressed!
Lucas: Lucas is the kindhearted teacher of Ceres who is hella feminine and is already knocking on deaths door.
I heard that his route would be the "worst" in a horrifying way with lots of bad things happening.
I think that gave me the wrong expecations after having just seen Mathis Despair End 2.
It's definitely the most unfixable route. A lot of bad things did happen, disgusting things too. But it still felt underwhelming to me compared to what I saw before. The last CG of Lucas's Despair End 2 was very delightful tho!
Some moments gave me some nice shivers as well (Lucas in a ponytail is beautiful).
Scien: The human god who created the cloning technology that made it possible for the people of this cursed island to live longer than 23 years.
Scien's route felt very different from the first two. His wasn't really focused on horrific tragedy, even though terrible, traumatising things still happened. This one had a much stronger romance focus from the start. It felt much more poetic in nature which I liked a lot as well.
"How to Ruin a God?", my beloved Ceres sure did a number on Mister Emotionless God-complex.
Absolut beautiful Despair Ending 2. Stuff like this makes me want to write poems about bringing a god down. You def need to leave your feminism at the door for this one tho lol. Scien is a trashbando who doesn't treat Ceres the way she should be treated.
Yves: The man Ceres almost killed in a fire by accident when she was a child. A very friendly guy who wears a mask to hide his burn wounds and tries to see the best in anyone.
The love interest of all love interests! If The Phantom of The Opera was a good guy but still full of madness. I liked his relationship with Ceres the most. It's so wholesome, raw and selfish. So much longing and self-hatred! They are obsessed with each other. They were made for each other. I support Ceres's right to be insane. I support all her wrongs. She deserves it.
His Despair End 2 was if Power of Love lacked any plotarmor and insanity was the only thing that remained. Loved it.
Next up! Le Salut! I can't wait for more Watchmen of the Dead Ankou!

Halloween!
This event is very cute horror. In that the story being told is kind and hopeful but HORRIFIC shit happens, so fair warnings for that.
Tumblr media
First off. Yeah Hero has a lot of experience with both of those options huh. A critter that never does anything in halves.
Secondly
Tumblr media
oooooooh things that make me cry a little. I loved this cutscene I think its so bittersweet and I hope we get more dragon adult Hero content that isn't overladen with tragedy the way this and the Malgor Situationtm was. In fact I just want more Dragon Hero content in general, doesn't have to be a god thing I just need the Hero to be a large lizard (or a dialogue option to be a large lizard)
I enjoyed the storyline, all the fridge horror (hah) of seeing the kitchens and the dragon bones and the descent into madness Andrew went through even though it was a little obvious from the start.
As a critique I think its a little bullshit that Andrew gets to go "oops well I was angry and wrathful and that was my mistake" and move on without even getting the option to be mad at him considering he ATE BABIES ALIVE but honestly the rest of the event was well written enough to still have the story on that 7/10 range.
Bonus: I don't have a clip of it but that scene at the end where the king asks what his grandson is like- I very much like the frequent references to how much the Hero just does not want to unpack any of that. Its not meant to be read as shipping content I know but my brainworms don't know that and they are thriving.

i think social media has become a bit of a blessing and a curse when it comes to these things, without it we wouldn't be able to use our own voices to share resources and stand up for the innocent civilians who are at the heart of this horrible tragedy, and we wouldnt have been able to see nearly half the horrifying shit that is happening in gaza without social media but on the other hand it also inevitably gives voice to those with very contrasting opinions and stances on this, whereas before social media nobody would've been able to share their thoughts on things aside from with the people directly in their real life circles. it's frustrating because a lot of people have the right idea with this, it makes complete sense to want somebody with a large social media following who is known for advocating for the victim in the past (yes, not necessarily ALL conflicts everywhere all the time but this is unique in the sense that it may just be the most horrific we have seen in our lifetimes and one where uniquely, there's not a lot financially we can do to help) to at least point their audience in the direction of ways they may be able to help. one of the biggest things is people feeling useless/helpless at the moment and rallying together to make some noise to people in power is what paramore have done countless times in the past so how is it any different now? just because it isn't geographically a 'local' issue to them the US is still a key, if not the most powerful, figure at the centre of this and with an election coming up it would make sense to be encouraging people to think about what they want.
and even just beyond the fact that they're public figures, at the end of the day they are people just like us. so asking 'what are they gonna do about it?' is dumb and unproductive because what are we, as regular people, doing about it? we're doing whatever we can, because that's all we can do! it's not some abhorrent or overtly demanding thing to ask them, even on just a human level, to participate in the conversation when hayley herself has made it clear countless times that she doesn't care how 'loud' her opinions are she will make them heard. for example, she was so prompt to condemn desantis throughout the summer tour and faced a lot of backlash for that, and yet desantis has come out with a statement wholeheartedly backing US funded arms being sent to the military in israel and now there's nothing to say to him? i love hayley and the guys, i love everything that they've done for their fanbase to make all kinds of people feel welcome but it does feel disheartening. i'm not as disappointed in the band as i am in their fanbase though, this week and the way they've responded to the people who spoke up about how they could be doing more has really shown the ugly side that still persists and probably will forever exist unfortunately
sorry this is so long and sorry to rehash the same points that others have been making a hundred times over, it's just been circling my brain the last few days and not sitting right with me at all. hope you're all good and not getting overwhelmed by the stupidity in your ask box ash ❤️
i agree with everything you have said. you worded it better than i could.
and i'm in the same boat, the fans reaction is far more disappointing because it shows how they truly feel too. it shouldn't have been surprising tbh, i feel like you've never actually been able to criticise the band, hell even over shit as trivial as song opinions people will get extremely defensive and say you see the band as the hayley show, so this reaction has always existed within the fanbase but it's just usually over small and stupid things, so seeing it over something so big and serious, fans trying to throw idle worship in others faces, fans wanting to spew the same thing others did when hayley spoke out against desantis for example, genuinely disappointing.
i'm okay though. i just struggle to word things honestly, so i'm not overwhelmed, just frustrated. but like i said, i won't answer anything about it after today, at least anything that focuses on paramore not speaking up as that shouldn't be the focus.
