I know the decision to have Julian's parents have him augmented was made on the fly but imo its pretty obvious from early on that Julian has Family Issues because he avoids talking about his family like the plague and I think they should've incorporated this into the Julian and Sisko dynamic right from early on because I think it would've made for some really compelling stories and moments and could've set up a REALLY interesting Julian and Jake dynamic which they kinda started to do but never fully went for
#star trek: ds9#julian bashir#benjamin sisko#jake sisko#s1 Julian being so young and eager to prove himself and latching onto Sisko as this mentor figure to look up to#seeing Sisko with Jake and low-key seeking that fatherly figure connection which he won't even let himself think about#Sisko seeing this young brilliant doctor who's got all the makings to be something great and he's just GOTTA help him along#I think he would also catch on pretty quick that Julian's got Parental Issues#he tries to ask one day all casual like 'tell me about yourself :)' and Julian talks about nothing but Starfleet and med school#any attempts to ask about his family are met with awkward brief answers and redirections#and then theres the way Julian's eyes light up the first time Sisko invites him to watch a baseball game#like he Knows. he's a dad he Knows somethings up#but he doesnt pry#I also think it makes their dynamic more tragic towards the end of the series#where we have Sisko asking Julian to compromise his morals again and again#Julian's trust and respect for him gradually deteriorating#and then at the end of course Sisko is gone and they have no idea when he'll be back#which I think Julian would have a lot of complicated feelings about#but of course theres also Jake#I imagine they'd get closer#very brotherly dynamic#you know that scene in TNG where Wesley goes to Riker for girl advice and Riker and Guinan start flirting?#absolutely happens but with Jake asking Julian for girl advice and Julian wooing a girl at Quark's and Jake absolutely loses the plot#makes the events of ...Nor the Battle to the Strong more intense as well I think#also I like to think there'd be an episode where the B plot is Jake gets mad at Sisko and impulsively decides to move out#ends up at Julian's because he did not think this through#Julian is now very much caught in the middle of this family drama and he Fucking Hates It#also him and Jake are NOT compatible roommates but he's trying so so hard to be nice#eventually they have a talk and Julian cryptically hints at his own home life and tells Jake he's lucky he has a dad who cares so much#them being closer would work into what Alone Together sets up for them

ALSO!! not just souji jumping in because we know he would he's down bad for yosuke BUT ALSO KANJI#listen you've all heard me talk so much about how i adore kanji yosuke friendships#i can't really tell whether it's kanji or souji that says “haven't we earned your trust yet” but it's a line that hits SO HARD#regardless of which one of them was saying it and i think it hits hard in slightly different manners#it's kanji's admiration and how he looks up to yosuke and how he wants to be closer to yosuke as a friend/kouhai/whatever you want#tatsumi “who's your partner now!” kanji has so much respect for yosuke he wants yosuke to rely on him too!!!#and this stands out because kanji is very conscious of social hierarchies and such but as a kouhai as yosuke's junior#he's so specific about wanting yosuke to treat him as an equal#i smtimes feel bad for kanji because he has a bit of that vibe of a poor puppy trailing after souyo because he wants to be in their convos!#he wants to be included! but critically he also just! wants them to SEE him!!#going a lil off tangent but i think kanji's attitude towards souji is very much one of kouhai respect like he understands his place#of like deferring to souji or getting advice from him and just generally regarding him as a reliable mentor#and it's the same with chie and yukiko? but idk man. with yosuke. guys. with yosuke i always feel like kanji wants to break that hierarchy#that convention. that social norm. to cross a line and be closer to yosuke.#he's more willing to tease yosuke in a way he doesn't with the other 2nd years. and this isn't coming from a place of disrespect either#AGAIN. the flu has made me deranged so here's something Michael is an animal guy. He'll never admit it but one day Adam catches him putting some in-shell peanuts into their shopping cart and is like ????? and Michael does his little standoffish shrug and by the time Adam gets home he is going over every spell Michael has ever told him about trying to remember if peanuts is an ingredient to anything and he's focusing so hard he almost doesn't notice Michael going over to their window where it has like flower box or something and just sprinkles a little bit of the food there and makes a strange click in the back of his throat that carries the echos of an angels true voice. and now Adams like ?!?!?!?!? What the fuck are you summoning ?!?!??! expecting something like a hell hound or horrific creature that responds only to an angel but it's none of that it's a flock of about 8 crows that descend down to the flower box and chirp at Michael in a way that can almost be described as respectfully. Now Adams never been so confused in his entire life but Michael the bastard just tilts his head in the way only angels do and says "I've known these animals longer than Humans have had names for them Adam. They remember me." and then smiles, a little sad and eyes glossy. "I think I've told that to you once before."

#kinda have mixed feelings about this framing of carlos being stuck in the past i think#i think without the context of why he is and what he's dealing with that feels a little unfair#he's grieving and that does come with ups and downs and struggles to reorient himself in a world where his father no longer exists#he hasn't figured out who killed him and for him that's just compounding on the injustice#it's been a little over a year#this season incorporated their wedding anniversary which also means it's officially been a year#and there's been no progress on his father's case i can't imagine what that feels like for carlos#to walk through the world so angry at the injustice that was done and unable to fix it#idk. he's in a really difficult and painful situation where no outcome feels like it'll be enough until he finds the person#thinking that'll be the key to him being able to move on#he's definitely wrong about that and very much trying to put his grief in a box and i hope we see him come to that realization#that trying not to feel it is not going to make it go away#idk all i can think about when i think about what he must be dealing with is how visceral it must feel#unrelenting and overwhelming and he's doing his best to tread water and be present#but part of him still lives in that day hearing the gunshot on the phone#and i really get that like i don't know how he moves on from that i don't know if it's possible#idk. really really hoping they're kind and respectful about this tomorrow i am scared lol

lately ive been crying like a tall child. etc. if you even care
#um does anyone want to rant about the tams fire siblings because they are driving me genuinely crazy#the way azula - despite being grown and distanced enough from ozai to know it was wrong - still views her 9 year old self as her ‘peak’#while zuko views the age he was at when they left as his lowest point#and they’re both trying to get towards and away those respective identities#any reminder that azula isn’t the girl she was is met with discomfort from her#just as any situation that makes him feel unsettled/unsafe/belittled instantly puts zuko into his 11 y/o mindset#like so much has happened and diverted from canon yet here they still are#those children are still living and kicking within them despite all they’ve done to have ‘zuko’ and ‘azula’ erased#there’s just sooooo much to them but I really liked this from the latest chapter#bc this chapter was supposed to really show how all the little crumbs I’ve put into their characters so far#come together to create two surprisingly opposing mindsets#and this is a key factor of that and this treatment of their past becomes VERY prevalent#twice as many stars#oh on the topic of tams please if ur gonna listen to any song off the playlist pls let it be come by adrienne lenker#like I’m crying about it actually

I have said this before but me being self proclaimed number 1 Ryoma fan and that being possibly literal-bc even if this bro had fans before me I might’ve simply done the most for him by talking about him so much + being the first to write fics that are in depth studies on his trauma across canons-I gotta say if there’s one other character I rotate a lot that isn’t him it’s probably Kei. (Shocking it’s not Hayato even if I do think about him too- but it’s usually associated with Ryoma bc gays 🗿)
I’m not even exaggerating when I say Kei would be my favorite and only isn’t because she doesn’t exist in many other canons yet my brain rotates the endless possibilities of how to incorporate her. I’ve already written a fic where she’s in shin vs neo verse which worked surprisingly well but I’ve been thinking how universally she could appear in other things. (Whether it be fitting her into a idea of a possible Go team in New or just a new canon completely) I think what I’ve narrow it down to is that she could be like- in Michirus role? Like she’s the supporting female who isn’t a pilot but helps out the real occasionally which I think would align very well especially with the original manga role she has of being Hayato’s assistant. And even if Hayato isn’t grandpa mode yet he still very much is in Saotomes position at that point. Not sure if she’d Hayato’s biological kid to further parallel Saotome and Michiru given well Hayato already adopts the Go team and his wife is irrelevant LOL.
I have no idea if I’ll ever write this specific idea but I’m still- rotating it cause this is such a easy way to get around “picking between Sho or Kei as the 2nd pilot” since both of them can still exist even if one doesn’t get to pilot, idm my supporting females. (Granted there could always be like- plot line where Sho gets hurt so Kei is temporary pilot but I can’t remember if Getter ever really did this since “once your hurt your ass is basically replaced” lol)

also another reason i play picc despite it causing my migraines is because i can use it to win arguments. Like any other instrument you have no right to complain about piccolo being "too high" when i am playing it and it gives ME migraines. like. ok coward. what do u even have to complain about

Awful#disclaimer picc is fun i love playing picc its great#other benefits include: small i can just put it in my backpack :) flute can also do that but only if i dont have a ton of stuff in there#actually easier to play faster passages than on flute bc the keys are smaller and therefore lighter#marching picc is great cause you dont have to worry as much about rain cause its so little#and also people Will hear u#fun fact my picc that i own has problems with the cork in the headjoint being loose#and therefore the crown and everything can just. Hi same anon again, I'm glad you are not bothered by that nutjob 😔 I also watched all of ILA episodes with Key, because I myself share a lot of common interests with him. I agree with you that regardless of his relationship with the rest of SHINee, Kibum loves taking care of people in general even though he has such a sassy facade lol. And coincidentally, Taemin just likes play up his babyness when he is with his hyungs (I still remember the man cooks kimchi jjigae perfectly fine with SuperM but suddenly cannot cut potatoes with Minho and Kibum :)), so Taekey has such a cute motherly-son kind of vibe.
Ps: when I said I felt minmin was like taekey, I just meant they are all twinks 🙄

It's cool that Key has this sassy and bitchy side but also has that huge caring and generous side. ILA has shown sooo many sides of him, too. Like watching him with Renjun was yet another side. He's was the caring and prepared hyung with all the snacks and gear, and Renjun was such a contrast. At least Key got him to eat some snacks on the mountain.
As for Taem, 100%. He loves to be spoiled, so he won't miss that opportunity. And I don't blame him.

#I keep having these low-key frustrating conversations with people I respect about anti-trans laws#one of my favorite profs was asking me the other day what I want to do after my degree#and I mentioned that I might leave geology bc while I like my work and think it's useful#there are problems in the world that are way more pressing than [natural hazard] in [location] and matter more to me#also that it's kind of a bummer/difficult to plan for a long term future here#when I don't know what laws will look like here in just a few years from now...#I live in a pretty safe state but I'm worried about national laws#like to be clear I think a 'need to flee the country immediately' kind of situation is a long long long way from where we are now#but not so unlikely that I can readily put down the daymares about it#anyway I say this to the prof#and he says 'where will you go??'#and like I get what he meant and it's not a bad question exactly but that phrasing sure makes things sound globally hopeless#like 'if you need to leave where would you prefer to go?' would have been so much better...#and then today my advisor asked how my 2024 is going so far and I said that as of this morning#280 state level anti-trans bills had been filed and 38 national ones#and her response was 'why haven't I seen it in the news?'#how tf am I supposed to respond to that?? do I look like the fucking new york times to you????#first I was like 'there are people covering it like I could send links'#and she was like 'I'm not talking about whether I go looking for something... I meant why haven't I seen it In The News'#I ended up saying something about how similar bills are filed in many states so it would get repetitive on npr etc.#and how often do state level bills make it to the national news anyways?#and then I said that even here there had been one filed though I don't expect it will be passed#and she was like 'oh yeah I saw that one in the news'#and I'm like '?????????' so you DO see it in the news hmmmm?#and while I agree with the point that more national coverage would be good part of me still wonders#would she even notice if more of those headlines passed through her universe?#anyway to be clear these are both good people that I like a lot#something is just a little off and maybe it's that they don't quite get it#or that my sleep schedule went to hell in a handbasket so things bug me that normally wouldn't#or both

I have finally, hundreds of years after everyone else, started playing Dragon Age....2
(the first one didn't run with sound and i wasn't in the mood to fix it because i was cranky today okay-another time...i will get context eventually don't worry i have at least 2 braincells w/ me)

it’s very interesting how when i was younger at pride i was so excited to just be by so many gay people that were gay and now all of my friends are gay so it’s very normal to me but what really gets me now is seeing older gay people and gay families because it’s like…. there’s hope for that and maybe one day i will be old gay person with gay family that will make other younger gay people say There Is Hope and/or that will be so normal for me it won’t feel like some huge thing
