Yes Stranger Things can make queer history

Growing up, queer people were not common in television. Glee was a rare exception. I had the chance to grow up with this show. Kurt and Santana were icons, diversity was everywhere in every forms, Klaine and Brittana were loved ships. Plus, both couples married at the end of the show. Glee was also a hit show.

However, Stranger Things can do something that Glee never did. Brittany, Santana's love interest, only appears in episode 2 of season 1. Blaine, Kurt's love interest, appears in season 2 (only to be have this role tbh). Mike and Will appear at the same time, in season 1 episode 1, in the first 5 minutes of the show, and even have the first ever one-to-one conversation. Both are main characters. None of them are side characters.

If you trust the Duffers enough, you know that they planned this from the beginning. That Mike and Will always meant to be a couple, from season 1, episode 1, minute 1.

Glee is only one example. There are many shows with queer characters who are side characters and/or only there to be a love interest.

This is why Byler is important. For queer people, queer history, television history. Furthermore, the fact that this is supposed to be a plot-twist is absolutely genuine.

If Mileven win at the end, it will be a huge loss, the worst mistake ever made. For queer people and television. A big win for misogyny and bigotry. And we all know too well that it's not the message the Duffers want to share.

As a queer person, a Byler happy ending would mean more than words can describe.

So yes. Stranger Things can make queer history.

First of all, Toby himself is covered in a lot of facial piercings so he is not one to judge! He loves piercings, especially on himself (egotistical asshole knows how sexy he is), so if you love them just as much him, he immediately just yaps with you

Do not trust him to give you one.

Now if you really like piercings but hate needles? He definitely bullies you about it some but understands. Since he can’t feel pain he can feel a lot of the pressures/intrusions that the pain usually covers up and it can weird him out

He plays with your piercings like a lot. Mostly nervous fidgeting type things

OMG DO YOU HAVE TO STAY ONTOP OF HIM IF HE GETS A NEW ONE, he is so bad at taking care of them himself but he’s so good about taking care of yours. Little weirdo

Now, Toby can be mean during fights so sometimes if he’s close enough he’ll twist one. Petty little shit. But he is quick to apologize, he just likes winning arguments

Jack like.. literally cannot see. So he genuinely just thinks your piercings are apart of you. Like he really doesn’t remember things of humans and so he completely forgot about minuscule things like piercings

He does like licking them tho, that nice metal taste

Once you actually explain it he’s a little perplexed. Since he’s an apex predator usually they associate things like anything piercing you as hindrance to hunts

But whatever makes you happy!

Since Jack does live in a lot of holes/caves you probably are gonna wanna let your piercings heal a lot or just clean them a lot more so the dust and dirt doesn’t infect/irritate them

If you wanna give Jack piercings well.. it’s gonna have to be like a really protected spot. He’s running around and climbing lots of trees not to mention how many people actually do try fighting a 6’10 demon..creature…thingy. So you don’t want him getting hurt

That and his healing factor literally is just too good at its job. Damn powers. But hey you can get those little fake ones! He’ll try to keep them on but…

Advice for Aspiring Commissions Artists

I recently had someone ask for advice on how to sell art commissions, so I thought it would be nice to compile a list for others aspiring to do so, as well as to remind myself of some important things to keep in mind.

1. Have one tumblr blog strictly for art. People will follow it specifically because they like your art, and it will be easy for them to find your artwork without having to scroll through a jumble of other stuff.

2. Draw and post just about every day! Most people will say to draw every single day, but please let yourself rest. You will end up being miserable if you force yourself to draw when you aren’t feeling well. The more you draw, the more your art will improve, and the more followers you will naturally accumulate over time.

3. Post fan art to bring in fans. You don’t have to strictly draw fan art, of course. But people are more likely to interact if they’re familiar with the character already. A lot of people will follow you for fan art initially, and some of them will grow to love your original art as well.

4. Develop your own unique style. This will occur naturally over time. Learn from artists you love, and over time, your art will evolve into a mix of art styles you like into something uniquely yours!

5. It takes time to find supporters who are willing to spend money on your art. Building an art business is a slow process, and it takes patience and perseverance. Only a small percentage of social media followers will pay for commissions or Patreon support, but those few are precious.

6. Use every platform and website you can to share your art and have links between platforms, so your fans can find you in multiple places. Examples of places to share your art are social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, BlueSky, and Pillowfort, as well as art sites like Cara and Pixiv.

7. Get a Patreon and Ko-Fi account and be sure to provide links to these means of financial support on your art posts (especially the art pieces you’re proud of).

8. Make use of as many means of making money with art as you can. Sell prints on inprnt, sell stickers on Redbubble. Youtube videos can eventually give you ad revenue. If you make comics, Tapas is another option to make a little bit of ad revenue. You can use Etsy to sell originals, prints, or even commissions! Some people may feel more comfortable buying commissions through an official store like Etsy rather than on social media, so it’s good to have that as a back-up in addition to selling through other sites.

9. Use a secure payment method that you’re comfortable with! I recommend using PayPal with invoices, so that you have proof of their purchase in case anything goes wrong. A lot of artists use Ko-Fi as well.

10. Post your commission guidelines on all the sites where you post your art! Don’t be afraid to reblog/repost your commission price list multiple times!

11. Art commissions are not a steady job. You might get nonstop commissions for a couple months and then not get any for a few months. There are some times of year when people are less willing to spend money. I’ve noticed this happening towards the end of the year. At times when you aren’t getting commissions, I recommend doing a limited time sale!

12. Price yourself appropriately for the amount of effort it takes for you to get the work done! Don’t overprice or underprice! Ask your friends for advice on what you should charge. You’ll probably want to start low and slowly increase your prices as your work gets higher demand.

13. Make your commission price list legible! Check out other people’s sheets for guidance!

14. Have patience and perseverance! It may take years after you start posting before you get a commission, but the more you put yourself out there, the more you’ll get noticed!

15. Draw what you enjoy! Maybe cater to your audience once in a while, but your own happiness is important to give yourself the drive to keep on going!

16. Don’t be afraid to reblog your own art at various times of day, for maximum visibility! Not all of your followers will be online at the time that you initially posted it.

Hello! Do you have any advice on how to handle an inherently fictional facial difference (that was caused by a fictional reason and while may have some partial crossover/parallels with elements of real world FDs, ultimately is a fictional one and is specific to the world/lore) in a way that would not come off as harmful to real facial differences? I also have some characters with actual real life FDs in the story, but maybe there's something else I should consider?

Also, what is your opinion on fictional disabilities in general? Not when the story just has a vague disability that can't be strongly connected to anything specific from real life, but when author specifically develops a fictional condition/disability/chronic disease etc in context of/based on elements of their fictional world?

Hello!

A fictional facial difference has basically the same potential pitfalls as any other fictional disability. You can take a look at this post where we talked about what not to do, TLDR: make sure it's actually a fictional disability and not just one you haven't heard of yet and be mindful of what real conditions it could be reminiscent of (and avoid stereotypes accordingly).

It's good that you also have characters with actually existing disabilities, it honestly annoys me to no end when people boast about their "disability rep" while all they have is 20 different "magic character can't do magic" characters. So this is definitely a big plus.

The only thing you need to keep in mind is to not split the two (character with fictional FD vs characters with IRL FD) into separate categories, consciously or not. Don't treat the one with a made-up FD as better or as inherently prettier than "those other people". Ideally they're all just treated the same in the story since that's the only option that makes logical sense.

Also, it was mentioned already in the post I linked, but unless you have some very specific scenario you purposefully want to do and actually comment on, avoid making the cause of her FD either 1) result of her parents doing Evil Drugs or black magic or whatever or 2), contagious. Very little FDs have those origins, but many are stereotyped or downright accused of being such.

Other than that, think of the same stuff as you would with IRL facial differences existing in a story. How does society treat them? What is the acceptance level? Are the majority of people knowledgeable (a person can know exactly nothing about being disabled and still be kind and accepting; it's not exclusive)? Are FDs more common because medicine is less advanced?

For the last question; it depends. If it has symptoms that real people have, there are gonna be real people who will relate to it (if done well) and real people who might be offended by how it's portrayed (if done badly).

Let's say your setting has a magic toxic flower that causes lower limb paralysis and/or weakness after someone steps on it - that's fictional, but there are many real world disabilities that share similar symptoms, even if the cause is obviously very different. If this was the fictional disability, the characters who have it would probably share the same community as characters with SCI, neuropathy, MS, etc.; it's based in fantasy but it's easy to imagine that it could be real.

In this context you should be researching the symptoms - leg paralysis and weakness - and potential treatments - physical therapy, learning how to walk with orthoses/crutches, painkillers, etc. Real readers with real symptoms will be able to relate to this kind of fantasy disability.

But let's say the fictional disability mainly presents as chronic pain and muscle spasms caused by the person not using magic enough. This on the other hand, doesn't work as a (respectful) fantasy disability. The main "accusation" people with chronic pain get is that we are lazy and if we just did more of [usually exercise] we would be cured - it doesn't work like that, and it would be frankly offensive to make a whole illness where the chronic pain is caused by someone not waving their wand enough or whatever. No one will be relating to this because it's not based on how stuff works, it's based on a stereotype. "It's fantasy" isn't a get out of jail free card, you still have to be conscious of what you are implying.

As long as you do research and keep in mind which real things your fantasy disabilities resemble (e.g. Hansen's disease and ALS will have very different stereotypes attached to them) so you can avoid making a connection you don't want to make.

I wasn't even expecting to like studying Shakespeare at all but then I started looking at Romeo and Juliet fanart and became inexplicably drawn to Mercutio in the Romeo et Juliette french musical, and then in class we had to perform three scenes of our choice from the play in groups, and one of my friends was cast as our Mercutio and I started to get like this insanely strong feeling that everything was wrong and everything felt off and I should be Mercutio, not her (no shade to my friend though). So then eventually I asked her if she was willing to swap roles and she agreed (she was not interested in performing in general and was happy with a minor role) and the moment she said yes it was like the stars aligned or something. Then I got increasingly obsessed with the musical and started kinsidering if I'm Mercutio and I kinfirmed it pretty fast due to the whole 'everything feels wrong if I'm not Mercutio' thing.

I do have a few memories of waking up with Benvolio in the morning and just lying there together for a while. No details though, they're pretty vague. I remember things that were shown in source a lot better that things that happened outside of source canon.

The coolest thing about being in the like. FL fandom, especially for like 8 ish years by this point (bananas number to me), is that it is, by nature, SO driven by OCs. There is no shortage of people with the most amazing characters on earth, who talk about them, and make art, and writing, and moodboards, and gifs, and ask games, and paper crafts, and stuffed animals, and music, and so many other things!!

People are SO open about loving their own characters and loving EACHOTHER'S characters!! We're all playing dolls together and everyone is, by and large, so kind to everybody else. Everyone wants to lift eachother up and show eachother's creations and love off, and it genuinely like. gets to me sometimes!! To see people putting themselves out there and sharing the things they've made and connecting with eachother. I know it's not specific to Fallen London, but it's such a massive part of the community in a way I haven't seen in other games to the same extent

1. One day I will play with Shadow and Warriors talking battle strategies and getting on each other's last nerve by being the only person who will call each out on their terrible plays.

Addendum: Autistic Warriors that knows social cues and psychology because they're a special interest. He is the go to for "What do they mean questions?"

5. Aryll keeps pictures of all of her new brothers but her favorite is one of her, Link, and Warriors together.

I haven't seen many fics/ prompts where Danny inherits Dlav co, unless everyone he knows is dead or it's never mentioned.

<I'll be honest it's more of a story outline that i might never use so i decided to see what others would do with it, i would have liked it to be a dead slient ship, but it should work with any of the characters>

<So let me set the stage>

Amity Park gets dragged into the infinite realm, not when Danny is 15 but when he is 17 to 19 like just before college. Vald is completely ended by Pariah Dark or Fright Knight <it doesn't matter as long as he's dead😋> pretty early into the battle, and Danny goes on to defeat them/him in single combat and becomes king of the infinite realms the usual in these fic. After the battle and the return to Earth, someone finds Vald's body(turned back human after his death), and he's buried, leaving everything to Danny.

Danny, being who he is, is reluctant to take over the sketchy company, but with a push from his friend and Jazz, he does making Tucker his head R&D and Sam his co-ceo after buying up some stock after the public learned of Vald's death and that the company was going to his underage(17) godson leading the investor to sell there shares.

Ok, this is we're ideas I saw from other prompts come in.

Good news, everyone. 😊 I'm officially not mind blocked anymore with horror + erotic horror + psychological + thriller content.

Yeyy. I'm officially back to writing my stories for the actual yandere long-form content. Still extremely BUSY, but at least I'm not mind blocked anymore. I will still be incorporating dark humor content like my recent posts in other future stories. But just informing you all about the good news, since I know a number of you are waiting for actual horror content.

I don't really see it as entirely mine, since so many hcs and ideas have come from brainstorming with the lovely anons and fans of the au

Like the entire ravio addition + the lorule-hyrule soul bond literally came out of multiple anons chiming in and giving their ideas!

It's kinda a cooperative thing, so for you to take the au we've been crafting for so many months, with so many hcs and amazing ideas from so many people and use it for another set of links, feels a lil bit disrespectful to everyone involved? But idk maybe I'm looking too much into it and my followers don't care as much as I do 😅

Like I sincerely see it as a community effort since the reason why it is what it is, is thanks to everyone's input 😅 it's a group project at this point

Reader is Telemachus' friend, and when he leaves for his "diplomatic mission" he asks her to watch over his mother. Later, once the king has returned, she stumbles upon an injured Poseidon.

A/n: Welcome to the Hermes au! Everything leading up to part 18 will have happened the same way, but from this chapter and onwards, things will happen differently.

The trickster God had been popping by every so often, during her time in the woods. Mainly to deliver messages from a very insistent Poseidon. Each time he’d done so she’d tried to refuse listening to his message, but would relent, as the God’s company was quite enjoyable. They’d turned it into an exchange, he’d tell her whatever message Poseidon had for her, and she would share secrets with him about his uncle.

She’d learned a surprising amount of information about the earth shaker during the time she’d spent with him, and Hermes was not complaining about the leverage it gave him over the God. Their banter was enjoyable, and Hermes liked speaking with the girl, but he was getting annoyed with the amount of messages coming from the grovelling God.

“I could tell him to take a hike, or something. Get him off your back.” He offered. Ónoma’s head whipped around to face him, narrowed her eyes and tilted her head. She studied the mischievous God for a moment before replying.

“And what would you ask in return?” She raised an eyebrow, emphasizing her suspicion.

“Smart girl.” The God said, practically patting her head. Ónoma glared at him, unamused at his patronizing tone. “Alright, I’ll tell you, no need to plot my death. That glare of yours is something else.” He mumbled. “All I want is for you to spend a day with me, while I do my duties.”

“That’s all?” She asked, uncertain. There had to be more to it. With a nod of his head gave his answer. “Will it be a specific day? Or will you show up one day and have me drop everything to follow you around?”

“How about tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow’s fine, how am I supposed to follow you around? In case you haven’t noticed, I can’t fly.”

“So many questions. Don’t you worry your pretty little head about it, darling. Smile, I could be asking for more in return.” He said, playfully.

“What if he doesn’t back off.” She asked, the idea of this possibility had her feeling defeated.

“Oh, he’ll back off, you’ve given me plenty to work with these past days and I can be rather persuasive. If all of that isn’t enough, then we’ll face him, together.” His voice was serious, but he gave her a soft, reassuring smile. “Now, do we have a deal?”

“We do.”

“Let’s seal it then.” He offered his hand, then quickly retracted it, mischief brewing in his eyes. “How about we seal it with a kiss.” Ónoma smiled at the offer and nodded. Had Hermes been paying attention to her eyes, he would’ve seen her mischievous look. She placed a kiss on the God’s cheek with lightning speed, then sat back as if nothing happened.

“You never specified what kind.” She grinned at him.

“Why you little- Darling, you are trouble.” The God of trickery had been out tricked, and he was not mad at it.

The next morning Ónoma awoke in her own bed, once again rising with the sun. Aside from not having to sleep in the woods, or being woken up at ungodly hours of the night by Poseidon, it was surprisingly relaxing to sleep in her own bed. She didn’t have to tiptoe in the kitchen in fear of waking her guest, didn’t have to share breakfast, she was free to do as she pleased in her own home, and it was incredibly liberating.

For the first time in what felt like ages, she could take a walk as the sun was rising, though she did not get too close to the sea. After she had the time to play the lyre, something she’d also do every morning, at least, when Poseidon hadn’t been in her home. Just as she was starting to wonder if Hermes had forgotten about their deal, he approached. She moved to get up from underneath her tree, but the God stopped her.

“Don’t let me stop you from playing, darling, finish your song, I’ll wait.” He said, sitting down in front of her. As she finished her song, she offered him a peach, which he accepted gratefully. “It’s a shame I traded the lyre, if I hadn’t, perhaps I would’ve been able to listen to you play all day.” He grinned at her as he spoke. “Alas, there’s work to do, but before we leave, can I wash my hands?”

As she glanced him over, she realized he was pretty much covered in peach juice. Aside from his sticky hands, there were droplets trailing from the corners of his mouth, down to his chest. Ónoma giggled, and flushed, at the state of the God, and led him inside to wash off.

“So, what’s the plan for today?” She asked.

“So many questions darling, just wait and see.” The God spoke as he exited her bathroom, still dabbing his chest with a damp cloth. “Though I do have a bit of a surprise for you, but you’ll see it when we get there.” Ónoma tilted her head at the man, questions whirling around in her head, but she didn’t ask them, for she knew she would get no answer. One, however, escaped her still.

“I thought you told me to ask questions.”

“I suppose I did, but I never said I would answer them.” He replied, giving her a lopsided grin.

Early this morning, I was working on my tangential fic about Riley's Tarsus IV-inflected relationship with Kirk in my femslash Spirk universe (shh. I know). Later, my maximal-Trekkie bff J got up, and we were chatting about other ST things (like my hilarious discovery that there's a short story about the asshole who tormented a still-grim young Kirk but it's in the Mirror Universe, where the bully is exactly the same but Mirror Kirk just murdered him).

J: Seriously though, you know whose character I'd have been really interested in seeing explored more?

me: Who?

J: Freaking Riley. He isn't killed and he seems to be good at his job and he ends up with so many story elements and yet ...

me: ........

J: The whole comedy around him clinging to his heritage and drunkenly taking over the ship only to later reveal that he's a genocide survivor is like... I want to know what's going on in Riley's head!!

me: It's—yeah, I think so too. He seems younger than Kirk, who was only 13 during the genocide, and Riley's family was definitely murdered during it, so how much does he even remember about them? And it's interesting that Kirk had no idea Riley was the kid from Tarsus IV, and immediately shifts to trying to protect him once he does know.

J: Right!! I want to think that afterwards, they develop more of a relationship, but within the bounds of their professional positions. Like, Kirk as this complicated but important mentor figure to Riley...

me: Same! Especially since they're the only eyewitnesses left by the end of "The Conscience of the King." There's literally no one else alive who went through what they did.

J: Shit, you're right. All seven of the others have been, well, executed by the end. So it really is just them. I choose to believe that offscreen it makes a difference in how they relate to each other.

me: Me too.

(We've often joked about sharing brain cells, but sometimes it's more marked than at other times :P)

Hi Max (is that your name? Idk what to call you 😅), did you ever think about Severus’s daily routine—being a miserable, depressing teacher, surrounded by loud kids every day? How did he cope? Did he have any hobbies to pass the time? What did he even do all day when he wasn’t grading essays, teaching, or brewing potions? Or was that all he did? Probably read books… or perhaps he socialized with the portraits and ghosts.. I always imagined the idea of him doing nothing but the same routine every day to be really sad and depressing. But I suppose he was so numb to that lifestyle that he just got used to it.

But like.. what made him happy? I can’t imagine living a life doing a job I hate, with no friends to share my small joys with. Was he just a shell of a man? Maybe he really was depressed. How did he not kill himself? Did he only keep going out of sheer spite and his promise to protect Harry and fight against Voldemort?

Or maybe he did have some kind of social life..in pubs, in the Muggle world… idk, I have a hard time understanding how he stayed alive for so many years. I would’ve ended it, tbh. My life is my family and my hobbies, but mostly my family. I can’t imagine what life does to a person who doesn’t even have one person they can laugh with. How did that affect him?

Maybe he was at least friendly with Minerva and Poppy? And Dumbledore, sometimes and perhaps he corresponded with Lucius. But who else? 😅 He didn’t seem super close with any of them in the books, so I guess we can only argue they were on friendly terms at best. I'd love to know your thoughts. 😊

Heyyy! Actually, my name isn't Max, but you can call me that since it's the nickname I have here, so it's all good hahaha.

Well, let's see, this is something I've thought a lot about lately in terms of character development, and I think I would divide it into two parts: Severus before Harry entered Hogwarts, before Voldemort returned, and everything that followed, and Severus after he’s already caught up in a spiral of anxiety and work overload, plus being a double agent.

I think during his first years at Hogwarts, he was probably in a crazy depression, and not only because of feeling guilty for Lily’s death, but also because he was just a 21-year-old kid when he started teaching, because he was teaching at the same place where he’d been bullied, because half the people he usually interacted with were dead and the other half were in Azkaban, and because I think it must’ve been pretty hard for him to adapt to a life he really didn’t want and one he had to get used to. So, in his early twenties, I picture him as kind of a zombie, after that terrible shock, the end of the war, all the emotional damage, just a few years where he was simply going through the motions, getting used to teaching, everything was new, so that’s what his daily life was based on. I've always imagined him having a pretty good relationship with the Malfoys, I think especially when he was younger, he’d visit them now and then, maybe on weekends... But he’d spend the holidays at Spinner’s End, and in the summer, he’d lock himself in his childhood home and not leave, because being stuck there was always a kind of self-imposed punishment: Hogwarts was a prison, his childhood home another, and if he hadn’t earned his way out of one, he didn’t deserve to leave the other.

I think his reputation as a nasty teacher was forged over the years, as he gained more confidence in front of the classes, he became stricter, more demanding, and didn’t tolerate nonsense. This was probably around 25 or so. I see that phase as one of accepting grief and loss, gaining more self-assurance at work, also starting to gain more trust from Dumbledore, and beginning a rivalry with Minerva, whom I always see him resenting a bit for letting certain things happen, but at the same time, respecting her as a colleague. I picture him very focused on his work, even obsessively so, to avoid thinking about other things. He would assign as much homework as possible so he could keep his mind busy correcting it, or simply practicing potions when his sessions were over. I imagine him sleeping terribly, deciding to do extra rounds at night not because he was interested in catching students in the act, but because he couldn’t sleep well, also because it gave him an excuse to leave the castle and smoke a cigarette since everything was just so damn anxiety-inducing. I never saw him as someone extremely sociable with other teachers because most of them were already teaching when he was a student at Hogwarts and didn’t lift a finger to make his life any less miserable, but I do see him being quite polite with most of them, though never opening up personally or anything like that, always with a shield up. I think he preferred staying reading, working, or studying potions rather than going to social gatherings with them or anything like that. I don’t see him being comfortable hanging out with them or having a drink. But I do picture him being comfortable going to Muggle pubs when he spent his summers at Spinner’s End. Shitty pubs with shitty people who were already drunk from early morning, where no one knew him, and he didn’t have to explain anything to anyone, in a world where there hadn’t been a war, no one had died, and he hadn’t been part of any shady organization. I imagine him going to those kinds of grim places when he wasn’t at Hogwarts and his house felt too suffocating, having a couple of beers. I picture him having occasional, short-lived encounters with Muggles, nothing serious, just a one-night thing to let off steam because he was in his twenties and felt alone, surrounded only by kids and old people, and that was just a damn depression. I imagine him visiting the Malfoys from time to time, as Draco was getting older, and I imagine Narcissa insisting that he needed to find a good pureblood girl, as she had always done since he was barely a teenager. I picture Lucius telling him that he didn’t understand what the hell he was doing under Dumbledore’s leadership in the first years, but seeing it as a good opportunity as Draco was approaching 11. I don’t imagine him having much of a social life. I think he talked a lot with Dumbledore, had many conversations with him, and saw him as the father figure he never had. I also think he had a genuine friendship with the Malfoys, and that created a very strong conflict and cognitive dissonance for him, but he couldn’t avoid it because they had always treated him well. But I think, within what was possible, he had free time, could do his own things, have his moments, his casual encounters, read his books, peaceful stuff.

And then came Harry.

Honestly, I think life after Harry at Hogwarts became pure anxiety for Severus. Because it wasn’t just managing Potions classes for seven damn years, being Head of House, doing night patrols, but also having to follow the kid around every corner to make sure he didn’t end up headless. Because Harry wasn’t just a responsibility, and he wasn’t an easy kid, but a kid who loved getting into trouble, so Severus had to babysit him both inside and outside of his work hours. And the fact that Harry came to Hogwarts only indicated that Voldemort’s return was getting closer, and when he returned, Severus completely lost his life. I mean, once he became a double agent, his life revolved around pretending on both sides, having cover stories on both sides, risking his neck, being constantly between Voldemort and Dumbledore, having to follow the plan, protect Harry, teach, work for the Order, put up with the Death Eaters, Lucius in Azkaban, Draco being doomed to kill Dumbledore, and a lot of other things. So, I basically picture him abandoning any hobbies he had, losing around 15 kilos, and just going on because, in the end, he was a kid from the streets who’d been raised to survive, and he had survival mode on 24/7, with anxiety through the roof, and that was basically it.

And then, after Dumbledore’s death, I picture him super depressed, super alone, with everything collapsing around him because the people he fought for hated him, and the people who didn’t hate him were the ones he had to betray, and I can’t imagine what that must have been like emotionally, but it probably involved a lot of wine and going back to smoking after having quit for years, because who the hell doesn’t start smoking again in a situation like that? And more anxiety, more depression, and the desire to do absolutely nothing but having to keep going, no matter what.

You pull off Lucas’s blankets and shake Mike’s shoulder, whisper-shouting ‘wake up’ as loudly as you dare to try to rouse Dustin. The teens complain, but when they spy your serious expression and the fear in your eyes, they do as you say. They begin to move the sofa for at least a couple of them to get behind, and start to brainstorm ideas for other hiding places.

Eddie wouldn’t choose to come to an event like this, but the money on offer was too good to pass up. The theme is Glitz and Glamour, the assistant who booked him insisting he went all out, a dangerous thing to say to someone as dramatic as Eddie. But, if he’s honest, the opportunity to get super theatrical with his performance was actually really appealing.

As part of the deal, a makeup company has given him a load of free stuff in return for promoting the brand. Way more than he’d use for a single event, and in far too many shades, but, again, he’s not complaining. Free glitter is free glitter.

Reclining against your headboard and clutching your coffee, you recall how he’d looked as he glanced out of your bedroom window the morning he was due to leave. How he’d peered through the thin blinds and the sunlight had caught his features perfectly and illuminated the ochre of his eyes. He’d looked distant, pensive.

I wrote a blurb after getting this ask about him and people asked for more, but I don’t know if I’ll ever finish or publish this because of the divisive subject matter. I’m absolutely not pro-war (and I have little knowledge or interest in the military as a subject group), but I’m concerned that publishing it will imply that I am. So, for now, a WIP it will stay. Perhaps I’ll revisit it once I’ve seen the movie.

do you have any specific head canons when it comes to how characters homes are set up. like i know it's canon that Peter and Chris live in apartments, but. do you have like a general floor plan in mind when you write your stories. like your fics that take place in London have the Pack living in a huge estate. do you picture it looking the same whether it's 'London Calling' or 'Sugar for the Secretary'. or does the lay out/room assignment change for each one. i know this is random and might not even be something you've thought about. i'm just curious because your fics always feel so fleshed out/realistic that it just seems like you've got Firm Thoughts™ about it.

First of all, I very much LOVE random questions so no worries there! ;)

Second of all, always assume I am overthinking shit. So yes, yes I have thought about this.

Though I didn't give the house too much mind in London Calling.

But I will admit that I have the same floor plan in mind for the Hale House whether that stands in Beacon Hills or in London. Though the exterior would look different depending on the city, I do imagine the BH Hale House to be more rustic charm wooden exterior in design, while the London Hale House is a little fancier and more classically old-fashioned.

Here's the floor plan, either way:

First floor. Now, Master Bedroom does change depending oh whether it's an Alpha Derek or an Alpha Peter fic so those two would of course switch if it were Alpha Derek and Beta Peter, but the Master Bedroom comes with a private bathroom. (And even with Alpha Peter, the Petopher isn't necessarily a given, I do write the occasional Steter fic too, after all, but since the majority are Stetopher, I marked it as not just Peter's bedroom.)

There are two more bathrooms down the hall by the stairs that are shared among the betas.

Granted, at any given time, only Derek, Isaac, Cora and, depending on the verse, Allison and Malia (since Allison would be living with Chris in their own apartment in stories where Peter/Chris isn't a thing and since I am always up in the air on whether a fic is pre-Nogitsune, aka pre-Malia-reveal). So it's not like twelve people are expected to share two bathrooms! Most of the betas' rooms are just for them to crash in if they need a place to retreat to.

Granted, room assignments of course change depending on who even is in the pack, there may be a lot of empty rooms depending on that.

Ground floor. Admittedly, Chris' office is something that just wouldn't exist in non-Chris/Peter fics so Peter's office and the library would simply meet in the middle of it.

The kitchen has an additional back door that leads out into the backyard.

With "closet" do I mean a special room for all of them to put their jackets and shoes because I figured with THAT many people, they would need a special space for all of that, particularly in winter. Can't just dump that in the entrance with fourteen people.

Obviously, additional bathroom. Don't always want to go upstairs to do your business. The kitchen is spacious and has a walk-in storage room because werewolves eat A Lot so they definitely need that, and there is an additonal back door because I like when you can go into the garden through the kitchen.

Main backdoor at the end of the hall opposite the main entrance door.

And an additional backdoor in the form of a sliding glass door in the living room, because I also love those. There's also a winter garden, most likely for Stiles' magical plants and possibly also for Chris' wolfsbane plants (no puppies allowed).

The den is basically the cuddle room, it's all decked out in mattresses, filled with pillows and blankets. The designated pack pile room.

There is also the basement and the attic, of course - with the attic dedicated to Stiles' magic and the basement dedicated to training spaces, both are very open (though the basement also has a locker room section with showers and all) so I didn't really map that out. It's cluttered with training equipment, a shooting range and a boxing ring in the basement.

But yep! That's it! That's my Hale House.

And since you brought up Peter, have a floor plan for Peter's apartment, as featured in Hanging On by a Single Bond and The Clever One:

So I have this headcanon that, as the Left Hand, Peter always had his own separate apartment, even before the fire. Meaning he got to just move back home, after the coma.

And he used to have three guest rooms, for Laura, Derek and Cora to have sleepovers at uncle Peter's. The / here do absolutely not indicate shipping, they mean that these rooms are either x or y's bedroom. They used to be Laura, Derek and Cora's bedrooms.

Depending on the universe (Petopher adopting Isaac, or like in The Clever One, Alpha Peter taking guardianship over Isaac), Isaac is living in Laura's old bedroom.

Derek is living back in his old bedroom in The Clever One right now, but since he usually lives in his loft in most of my fics that don't have them rebuild the Hale House, this would either be a guest room or, in a Petopher story where the two live together, it would become Allison's bedroom instead.

Depending on the universe, since I do love me some Peter-Malia father-daughter dynamic and I care approximately as much about Mister Tate as the TV show's narrative did, Malia would be moving into Cora's old bedroom.
