a while back neverpo.st had an episode where they talked about "the podcast sound" and my first thought was "spooky and gay" before they got into it and i realized they were talking about nonfiction podcasts that involve journalists

I honestly do not think I've ever experienced as much agony over a fictional character as I have over oscar malevolent. he's just the winning combo of religious trauma, blood, devotion, queer pain, endless kindness and optimism, and vengeance yk?

#yeah no one else will write me back and it's part time so maybe I can swing it#plus possibly snow/smoke days off cause they follow the school calendar#had to leave DEI off my old job title to get a call back#like I did dei trainings in a (now) red state I knew it was polarizing but it was confirmed almost immediately#a little anxious cause one of the questions is about potential allergens and they have flowers on the list#I am allergic to all flowers yes but it is probably fine?#recently learned most people don't take 5 allergy pills and 2 nasal sprays even if they have allergies#(I still have my eye/neck rash from mystery allergens possibly formaldehyde but maybe sulfates? idk smh)#the posting says you can listen to music/podcasts so maybe I can actually catch up on delta flyers#and I was supposed to do part time for my sister but she still hasn't paid me for the last stuff I did for her#I don't wanna be an asshole but I can't keep giving myself money out of my long term savings#$22 an hour but the most I made at the school district was like $27... better at the university but that situation was always unstable#where I live has all warehouse jobs and only a couple educational institutions of which I've burned bridges at 2#maybe 3 if you count the museum... yeah I'm the worst#plus education sucks I never wanted to go into education but somehow that's where all my experience is#yeah I have a masters degree it is completely worthless don't keep studying because the economy is in ruins and it feels safer#bad decisions made when I was 22 to become over educated and then chronically underemployed (or straight up unemployed like now)

I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.
But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).
In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

my other favorite aspect of being into wtnv in 2024 and onwards is that there’s a decade plus of fandom content to go through and a decade plus of ideas and people being changed by the series to experience. it’s generally pretty rare to have that kind that kind of experience with something that was popularized in the zenith of the internet becoming centralized, when people were moving from places like MySpace, geo cities and personal websites to formats like tumblr (and for wtnv’s earlier history, deviantart). (The only other fandom I can recall with a property still updating that would fit this bill is homestuck btw) it’s a transient experience of enjoying someone else’s ghosts, of a childhood/teenagehood/young adulthood you never got to experience and history you never saw for yourself but felt enough for it to mean something now. it’s the raw, unfiltered joy of what is almost nostalgia for something you never cared about until very, very recently, and realizing “oh my god the podcast is actually really good on top of it”

Just a thought I had while cleaning but realistically would anyone know Sol’s birthday? Like. Since he’s a clone and all. Like imagine the weird situation with that right?
Sorry my memory for the beginning of campaign three is hazy and maybe I’m being dumb but like. He wouldn’t. Know his birthday. Right? MAYBE He would consider his birthday the day he and Albin met? Maybe he celebrated alongside Albin’s birthday? Maybe he wasn’t celebrated at all?
If he and Swag got the chance to talk then would he consider Swags birthday to be his birthday as well? Maybe he hasn’t even thought about the fact he doesn’t really know or have a birthday. Maybe he only realizes once Callie and Calder start talking about their own birthdays? If something about a Sol birthday is mentioned in canon then unmm ignore this post pretend you never read it but regardless I think it’s fun to think of the duck team scenarios that spawn from that.
