- Max let’s Lucas braid her hair sometimes even if he’s bad at it

- Steve and Jonathan secretly call each other but hang up before either one can talk because they are too afraid to say they kinda miss having the other around ( Joyce is the only one that knows and thinks it’s funny )

That’s... also literally the theme of supernaturals final season. Anyway I really recommend you read up on death of the author and Neil Gaiman’s takes on fanon. I am literally cuban. My first language is SPANISH. my entire household speaks Spanish, and my family past 1st cousins don’t speak any English. Hakuoki SSL Kazama Daily Story 1

First post of the month, so I’ll start by asking you to please support me if you can either on ko-fi (https://ko-fi.com/V7V2W0HO) or through paypal (paypal.me/KumoriYami )…. also let me know if you have any hakuoki drama cds that you’d be willing to share that are on my looking for list since i don’t have the audio for those….. I HAVE ADDED MORE CDS WHICH I HAVE TL FOR (though I still haven’t gotten around to cleaning up that list).

I’m going to start by saying mentioning some things.

I’ve been extremely exhausted lately cuz I’m working waaaay more hours that normal so I’m not going to TL anything longer than the ssl short stories done for this month.

I recently gained access to Hakuoki SSL release countdown audio files which are unfortunately no longer on the Otomate Hakuoki SSL website though I could only find 12 of a total 13 translations for said countdown....not sure when i’ll get to those.

I found a translation for the Sengoku Night Blood stuff x Hakuoki interaction event in Chinese that’s in actual text (it’s way too much effort to take text off videos to tl).... but iuno what to do with it since I already have an extremely long list of things I wanna do, though as I’ve never played the game, and only have a passing interest in it, i wouldn’t know what is what and would be relying on MTL for char names and wouldn’t recognize if something is relevant to the Night Blood lore, plus I don’t want to translate anything that someone else might plan on doing....

I’m going to be translating some of the Otomate Hakuoki blog posts for this month.... which I explicitly do not want reblogged as the content originates from Otomate’s websites... which are still active. If they do get reblogged, I will be refraining from posting future translations of them outside of what I have planned for this month and will be deleting them all next month (i’ll be putting this warning up on all of them).

This is my second favourite of the daily story 1 stories (after saito’s obviously lol. i feel bad for amagiri... though it’s probably good that kazama was only like this in the yuugiroku games). Also, on a side note, I’ve updated the Daily story 1+3 for Saito with a bit more pics.... still haven’t gotten around to learning how to modify my vita.

Amagiri: This is/Isn't that...... a bit too much. I believe that doing this/doing these types of things so suddenly, may cause her to feel uncomfortable.

Kazama: What are you saying/talking about. It's a woman's dream to wear a wedding dress.

Kazama: Besides, if it's being given by the man you love, what woman wouldn't like it. [the punctuation in  Chinese had these as separate sentences... which didn't make sense so I changed it. Originally: "....man you love. What woman wouldn't like it." 

Alternatively this could be read as: Besides, being given this by your beloved man. What woman wouldn't like it.]

Kazama: Ah......That's true/That's true too/as well. We're already in love, so we can directly move to having a wedding/holding a wedding ceremony.

Kazama: Amagiri, go and get a church/chapel ready/go and prepare a church/chapel. Also wedding invitations need to be prepared/a list of who will be invited to the wedding needs to be prepared.

I have started looking at the Hakuo Gakuen School Assembly drama.... though I still need help translating about 15(ish?) seconds worth of dialogue since I have no TL for where voices overlap...(going to plan a page for incomplete drama tls in the future since there’s one similar to the “One Inch Samurai” that i reallllly wanna translate but I only have 4/7 tracks of tl for it).

....also im feeling super irritated since one of my translations for a character perspective (something that I put in the post queue since it was almost done. i do that to remind myself of what day i want something posted, even if it’s not done) disappeared from tumblr. submitted a ticket.... but I really hope i can recover at least part of it cuz that particular one had almost 30 sentences translated and I didn’t make a back-up.... *sigh* usually i use nimble writer for my TL documents, but i have a tendency not to when translating short things....

roleplaying habits questions.

1. what’s a grammar rule you find yourself breaking or ignoring a lot?

Offhand I can’t really think of anything?? English is my first language so I don’t knowingly break any grammar rules anyway. Unless possible excessive use of commas counts bc I use commas a lot.

2. are there any languages besides english in which you think you could comfortably roleplay?

Unless Gibberish counts bc I learned that stupid crack language back when I was a kid but good lord I would not have the patience to actually type out a reply like that. 

3. how often do you reach for a synonym dictionary when writing? how about mentally?

Sometimes but not too frequently. Depends on how flowery I’m trying to write something or if I’m thinking of a word but I don’t like the first descriptive word that came to mind for what I’m trying to express.

4. how often do you need to translate your own or the other’s writing with a dictionary or google when writing and reading replies?

Never tbh. Especially since I don’t RP in any other languages, all my RP partners have a good enough grasp on English that I can always tell what they were at least trying to say in their reply.

5. do you listen to music while your write?

I used to need music playing in the background to help me focus on doing drafts, but nowadays I need more silence than anything to help focus and produce what I think is a quality response to a longer thread. Short one or two liner things idc what’s in the background. 

6. do you have ideal writing circumstances when you can do a lot of drafts or tackle really long ones very easily?

I can fluctuate with when I best write. Typically I write better at night when the house is quiet and any noise happening in the house is a noise I make, but I’ve had writing inspiration hit me at any time of the day before.

7. are you a morning, day, evening, or night writer?

Bold of you to assume I’m awake during morning hours that don’t include 5 AM bc I’m still awake haha. When I’m not swamped with commissions to do I typically write better during the day or at night when I’m the only person awake in the house and I don’t have any outside distractions from a person IRL.

8. how does tiredness affect your writing?

Not overly so sometimes, I know there’ve been times in the past where I powered through replies even though I wanted to go to bed just because I was riding the motivation train and I didn’t want to lose it and not get to those last replies for who knows how long. But on Discord at least I often have reply to Discord threads be one of the last things I do before I go to sleep so I go to bed knowing I don’t owe anyone a reply on there.

9. have you ever written a serious reply intoxicated?

Not a serious reply anyway. I’ve been on the dashboard before while intoxicated (ColossalCon East was a prime example haha) but I’ve never really RP’d while that intoxicated

10. how much do you proof-read as you are writing vs. proof-read at the end?

I’ll proof read as I go but also give it one last read before I actually hit publish.

11. when you are writing a reply, how much ahead in the thread do you plan?

Entirely depends on the thread. I could write it on the fly or I could have days to think about it from external factors keeping me from getting to the reply as soon as it comes back to me.

12. is there ever been a time when you’ve had to drop a roleplaying partner because you’ve found their writing style exhausting?

Yes actually, gather round for RP horror storytime haha. Flash back to 2013 while I was still in the Black Butler fandom. I stupidly decided to give writing Sebastian a try at the request of a Ciel I’d made friends with (probably through my old Alois or Lizzie blog). She was a nice enough girl, close enough to my age so she seemed plenty mature, and had been what I thought was a good enough writer to warrant trying my hand at a muse I wouldn’t have otherwise thought to try. Legit within days of me making the Sebastian blog she was getting super clingy in her IC posts making Ciel a whiny baby missing Sebastian, would try and guilt me in IC posts to get on and write with her, and I dealt with it for about two weeks before I deleted Sebastian’s blog without warning and deleted the girl off Skype. To this day it’s the only blog I think I’ve ever consciously deleted.

13. does writing roleplay things in public spaces make you uncomfortable?

Not really? I wouldn’t be crazy about a stranger reading over my shoulder while I was writing bc that’s just weird, but I’ve gone to Starbucks or one of the local malls before on my off days (back when I was still at my last job) and I’d do RP stuff there just to get out of the house.

14. how often do you need to change the icon in your reply while or after writing the reply?

Typically I don’t put in icons until I’m done writing the reply unless I go into the reply knowing exactly which one I want to use, or think of a good one while I’m writing it out.

15. do you first get in the “zone” when writing, or do you start writing and “enter” it that way?

Nowadays I just start writing and then get into the zone after I get the first reply done. Discord replies I can chug out any time of day without difficulty, but for whatever reason Tumblr I have to be in the right mindset for. 

16. what is your biggest obstacle to writing every day, if time doesn’t count?

Back when I was at my last job, it would be getting a lot of writing muse while I was busy at work and unable to get on my own laptop or sneak onto Tumblr on an office computer and at least type out the bulk of a reply (yes I was employee of the month many times haha), and by the time I was able to get to my own computer or be safe enough to get on a work computer, that writing muse would be gone.

17. what’s your inbox count currently? what did you do to get it so high/low?

Right now I have 15 IC asks. I won’t lie, two of them are from last years Valentine’s Day bc I was away at Katsucon at the time of receiving them and by the time I got home I still just never got around to answering the asks, but I didn’t want to delete them either so I just kept them for posterity. Some are from this past Christmas that I was terrible and haven’t answered yet bc I’ve been so swamped with commissions, some are from other random meme’s I’ve reblogged and gotten an ask or two for and also just never got around to. I’m horrible at replying to asks most of the time and I know it but I always appreciate whenever people take the time to send me an IC one.

18. how many drafts is a paralysing amount?

I’d guess I’d say over 15 like para thread replies would make me be like -insert meme song- ‘how could this happen to meeeee’. I’m not quite at that point yet but I’ll get there eventually if I’m not careful lol.

19. if you are writing a wrong reply that’s not working out, do you save what you have to be continued at another date, or do you scrap it and rewrite?

Usually I would just draft what I have and go back to it. I can’t remember the last time I scrapepd an unfinished draft and completely rewrote it.

20. longest reply you’ve ever writen on mobile?

N/A because I don’t do replies on mobile. I’ll send asks on mobile but I never reply to actual IC things while on my phone unless it’s something stupid and cracky or one-liner-ish.

21. does the total amount of threads you have going on matter to you, or just how many you owe?

Doesn’t really matter. I can have one thread with one person, I could have five threads with one person. @shinvcho is an example of the latter lol

22. what’s your thought process when you format? any unspoken rules you follow?

I’ve kept to the same formatting for years and years tbh. I’m too lazy to do excessive formatting beyond italicizing and/or bolding specific words for emphasis and spacing out the start of a new paragraph. Anything more than that to me is just tedious and unnecessary; I don’t want to make it difficult for my partners to read.

23. how does your follower count affect your mood?

Anyone who says they don’t appreciate or enjoy even a small spike in followers is a liar, because we live in an age where validation is held in high regard and it feels good to get the validation of seeing more people enjoy what we do on our blogs enough to put us on their dashboards. But it also doesn’t really matter to me when I lose followers because I have a mutual checker so I can unfollow a mutual back if they did so first so I don’t feel uncomfy still following someone who no longer wanted me on their dash lol.

An ask turned into an essay/presentation and I’m hoping MBTI blogs don’t block me for this here’s EXID’s possible MBTI types!

Before anyone who actually knows about MBTI types more in depth jumps on me for how poorly done this is, I’d like to request you do better. Solji- ESTJ

The first thing that we (we being @lencoexid and I thank you for helping me/co writing this basically) decided was that Solji has a higher Te (look at me picking up the lingo?). The girl was voted the scariest member just because she’s very about her business I guess you could say? That’s not the best way to put it but anyway, she comes off as “scary” because she’s very quick to remind the girls that she’s not only the leader but also the oldest and she knows best, not because she’s actually being mean or anything but just because she wants to help and keep them doing what they’re supposed to be doing. But also Jeonghwa helps. She’s later. Anyway.

One website says

Solji is very sweet of course we love her whatever but she also comes across as bossy sometimes and as lenco pointed out, even Heeyeon said she also likes to do things her own way. She made Jeonghwa mad in that infamous Showtime fight because she kept teasing Jeonghwa about how slow she was washing the food and telling her to do it faster. She, like the true mom of EXID that she is, took the knife from her and showed her how to cut the food faster, too. Like literally just showed her “you can cut two at a time, see?” and Jjong was just like -_-. To Solji, this wasn’t being bossy or anything, she just had a better way to do it that was more efficient and she wanted to show her younger friend who was wasting time, but Jeonghwa was young and sensitive so she got angry lmao 

Then we had to decide if she was more of a secondary Si user or Ni and Si seems to fit better.

Solji also has moments where she goes on about things and she gets very excited when thinking about possibilities of what she could be doing, even when it’s small and just a game EXID are playing, she really seems to enjoy banter and clever thinking like an Ne might?

This woman... her and Solji. Elly is almost definitely an IXXP to me because idk just her general self. She’s very “free” ig, she doesn’t like schedules, she likes to do whatever more on a whim but less so than Hyelin I think. But she has said specifically that she doesn’t like to go by schedules and prefers to be more in the moment.

She has multiple interests but she only goes into them a little bit? The members said (on NCT night night I believe there is a thing in my drafts anyway also it was technically 2 votes for Elly and 2 votes for Heeyeon actually) that she knows a lot and it’s almost weird that she knows the things she knows and Jeonghwa explained that Elly knows about a lot but she knows things in the way that she “knows a little about everything” so like she’s smart in the way that she has a broad range of general/fundamental knowledge on random things. Jeonghwa also said she’s the type that keeps up with trends like in fashion and also just regular trends like slang and other internet things. She’s into fashion. She isn’t the most empathetic member but she did once say that when she isn’t writing songs about her own experience she’s writing about others so that might be something? She’s very blunt and she thinks it’s easier and better to just be open about what you’re thinking and feeling so time isn’t wasted.

I think she’s more Se than Si because she definitely seems to be more of an outward sensations type of person, with trends and fashion yeah but also she said she likes skinship and she’s pretty physical even if she’s not athletic. Like she doesn’t like working out but she likes the idea of extreme sports (note the “idea of” part lmao thank you @lencoexid​) she likes video games, she likes to think about the way things physically feel like she’s a very Se person to me.

I was having a hard time figuring out if she was more Fi or Ti but we do really think that she’s more Fi after thinking about how she is towards her friends and her relationships more. Ti would be too logical in her judgements of things and she seems more like a feeler when it comes to things around her. SO I’m going with ISFP.

Hani - INTJ

idc what anyone says (I say that now but like it’s so easy to change my mind you could literally just be like “well what if Hani is this because of this” and I’ll be like shoot you’re right) but anyway I could see Heeyeon being a dominant Ni user and also she’s not an extrovert like Heeyeon would be the last member I’d believe is an extrovert I’m serious e to i in EXID goes Jeonghwa/Solji/Hyelin>LE>Hani don’t argue with me. Or do idc but like I’m not wrong on Jeonghwa and Heeyeon. (like I once saw someone call Ahn Heeyeon an ENFP? nahh) but also idk

I think she shows more of a Te then Fi than the opposite (Fe then Ti) so I’m going with INTJ I think. 

Anyway, Heeyeon is super logical and detailed. Think about what made EXID so famous in the first place, Heeyeon literally taking actual written notes of what exact angles make her look best while performing. Her selfies are really popular (because she’s gorgeous?duh) and when she talks about her selfies she says they’re great because she took note of how she looks prettiest when her head is tilted at a 45 degree angle. Who measures that? Who? Nerds. That’s who. Hot nerds. Nerds trying to make sure their popularity stays up and they have no weaknesses. Scary hot nerds.

She takes notes in her notebook (which they all call her death note) of like everything she possibly can? Her calories, her workouts, any new findings in her selfie angles, and when people make her angry. She literally writes down the date and what they did and everything. She’s like the scary anime kid that comes out of the shadows and pushes their glasses up and says something weird then writes in their notebook. Kyoya Ootori she’s Kyoya from Ouran High School Host Club. My husband and my wife I have a type.

But then here’s the thing, she also really feels the need to have people like her? Like she used to diet and gain and lose weight (she’s not anymore thank God) and she got in trouble and was criticized by netizens for “just saying what she thinks will make people happy in that moment” which is honestly pretty true but I think it might’ve only really been true for that time. That was back when she had just gotten popular and she was still getting used to it and she was on so many shows right after doing nothing but eating ramen all day basically so I honestly think she could’ve just been worried about EXID’s fame and her image and everything because lately especially now she’s more like she was back when they were promoting Every Night like she’s very openly braggy and less anxious so I think it could’ve just been a stress and anxiety thing? Because now especially with the other girls she seems much more open about the other sides to her personality so I still think she could be an Fi not an Fe.

She also said when talking about what she’s like in love and all:

She also seems more Se than Si but I can’t place exactly why. @fizzybubblespop also said that they’d say she was an INFJ but she seems so “present” that having Se as her last function doesn’t seem right. 

I kinda agree but I also think it makes sense since she is a bit wired and outward and everything but she’s much more of a person who needs to sit and think about things a bit, spacing out sometimes and stuff. I could see Se over Si for sure but like lower than things like Ni and Te to me. 

Hyelin - ESTP or ESXP

Hyelini hea lini hey lini hey jenny idk umm I think she has a higher F something and she’s a perceiver but I’m not sure on much else. She’s probably an extrovert to me but I also could possibly see her as a social introvert? She said on Showtime that after spending a lot of time with people she needs to spend time alone to relax for a few hours. But @lencoexid​ did point out that it’s more likely that it’s her attention shifting and her getting bored or tired of that situation and wanting something else.

I had never even thought of Hyelin as an ESFP before until lencoexid brought it up and I was like hmm? and when you think about it it could actually work well.

So, ESFP starts with Se, the extroverted sensing function. On this website they explained Se like this:

“Extroverted sensing is focused on taking in the world as it exists in the present moment. It is highly in tune with the sights, smells, sounds and general physical stimulus that surrounds it. Extroverted sensing lives and thrives in the moment, more so than any other function.”

Hyelin is someone who is a regular at bars and actually said she drinks for the feeling of being drunk. She said she doesn’t see the point of drinking if you’re not going to get drunk. She also traveled all the way to Jeonju randomly just to go to a specific restaurant there that she likes.  

The problem here though comes when you get to the 2nd function which is Fi. To me, she seems more Fe. She had a secret job when EXID was broke, she was actually kinda uncomfortable when Solji and Jeonghwa had that argument in Showtime and she tried to make jokes about it and diffuse the situation it seemed.

She said when she’s in a relationship:

“I am really the submissive type, when I am in the wrong I bow down to my boyfriend and apologize right away, (hehe) but when I know that he is lying then I become more of a strong unni style.”

And so she seems pretty Fe when I think about it compared to Fi, she seems more about group harmony than her own inner feelings even if she is blunt and everything, at the end of the day she has many friends who all are very different (Shinsadong Tiger said in an interview once that Hyelin is friends with everyone and is even friends with a politician), she works to keep her friendships with people from her childhood and she doesn’t like when things mess with that. Remember when she just grabbed a mic and said “Minhyuk and I aren’t dating” because she wanted to end rumors before they got big? She’s very blunt and “crazy” and wild and she’s very into being the humorous one of the group that makes everyone laugh but she’s also very open and straight-forward when she doesn’t like something or when something is messing with the dynamic, you know?

Now, ESTP has Se>Ti>Fe>Ni and lencoexid and I both agree that between the two, Hyelin seems more Ti than Te (Te is more Solji’s thing lbr).

Jeonghwa - ISFJ or XSFJ

 I think she has high Fe and probably dominant Fe because the girls are always saying she’s so empathetic and she’s so good at relating to people’s feelings, etc. Heeyeon said she was jealous of how empathetic Jeonghwa is, when Heeyeon was trying to explain herself Jeonghwa jumped in and helped her out (I can’t remember what it was but it was on a radio show and she kinda explained for Heeyeon), she’s very open about how she feels about things and what she thinks of things (all of EXID are pretty blunt but especially Hyelin>LE>Jeonghwa), she’s also the one that takes charge even though she’s the youngest to try to keep things under control just a little but she’s still kinda sensitive? She also likes planning things and sticking to a schedule as she said on NCT night night, her and Heeyeon like sticking to plans and Elly and and Hyelin like to go with the flow. And with ISFJ and ESFJ Si is high (1st or 2nd) and this website says this about higher Si users:

Then it says this about high Fe users:

So this girl loves people, is social, also prefers to stay in and read (philosophy), is empathetic, blunt, likes schedules, mischievous, studies English and Chinese just cause she wants to improve in those things (she’s also an idol so there is a bit of a responsibility to do that but she doesn’t have to), etc. Like. Someone who knows MBTI well come type her instead cause idk. To me she’s either ISFJ or ESFJ and she seems more extroverted to me it just seems like she’s got a higher Fe than Si and so on than the other way around, but I think that’s more up to just how you perceive her I mean she is an idol and I forget a lot so ISFJ or ESFJ.

FAST FACTS / BIOGRAPHY

grew up with two sisters and a brother in a two - story home with his parents for eighteen years of his life. his sisters ( carmen & liana ) were twins that were five years younger than him and his brother ( caine ) was seven years behind him. lachlan was the oldest, so he was always in charge when his parents went out or away.

he wasn’t the best student and kept to himself during most of his years in school, growing very interested in computers as he got older. 

when he was around ten, his family inherited his uncle’s mansion  ––  a relative his family was fairly close to and they moved to london to live in it. the mansion, at the time, didn’t have the best security and wouldn’t until tragedy struck the munzert family when lachlan was about seventeen.

during one of the weekends his parents went away, lachlan threw a party at the family’s new mansion and hundreds of people showed up. he didn’t know half of the people there and his siblings stayed at their friends’ homes during the night, but he thought he was in the clear because he’d hired people to clean up the next morning. all went well with the cleaning crew and his parents never suspected a thing when they got back.

his gullibility at seventeen was what got the family robbed the following weekend of the party. six different men and two women ended up breaking into their mansion, making the family well out - numbered when they arrived. they’d made imprints of the keys the previous weekend at his party and took note of pretty much anything they could in the house, and lachlan still refused to tell his parents about the party, even that night. 

lachlan, caine, and their two sisters were all tied up, and lachlan didn’t know where his parents were the majority of the night ( the house was huge, there was no way of really knowing ). it left him to protect his siblings all alone while the intruders searched for the one thing they came for : money from the family’s safe in the basement. 

long story short, lachlan made some bold decisions that night, which included doing anything he could to ensure the safety of his siblings while his parents were nowhere to be seen. because he was seventeen and not the best with assessing situations realistically and logically, he tried to play the hero. his heroics resulted in witnessing his brother’s ten year old neck being snapped right before his eyes and his twelve year old sisters being dragged off somewhere, never to be seen again. the burglars seemed to think lachlan would suffer more if he was kept alive and responsible for the deaths of his siblings from trying to save everyone. it was one against eight and he was never going to win. 

he found out later that his parents tried to fight back, too, and they were killed upstairs before he had the chance to try and save them. the cops were called when the criminals left, but none of them were found at the time and they sent out a search for his sisters that would go on for years and years later.

still, even at thirty, his sisters aren’t back. he doesn’t know if they’re dead or if they ever got away, but he never stopped looking. even now, he’s obsessed with trying to find them and has hundreds of files in one of the studies dedicated to clues or possibilities of what could have happened.

lachlan is still living in the mansion, and with the money he’d inherited from both his parents and his uncle now, he installed the most high - end security in his home when he was about twenty - six. there’s not an entrance that doesn’t have a camera and he has eyes on every room in the house, along with a remote that controls nearly everything electronic on every floor. some could say he’s paranoid, but he just likes to be safe. 

he took up underground fighting because the physical workout was a good outlet for all the anger and guilt and regret he kept deep inside. he’s always had a short temper and fighting really helps with fulfilling that temper whenever it gets out of control. he also earns most of his money through bets and winning those fights, even though it’s very illegal and extremely dangerous. 

oh and he also has a list of people he knows are the burglars from years ago, and he’s working on getting revenge for the pain and agony they’ve put him and his family through. he’s very much one of those eye for an eye people, and he won’t stop until all eight of them are found and taken care of. he might be a little bit of a vengeance - driven kind of guy, y’know ?

Day three ✿ Sep 16 ‘20

I have piano/keyboard today. I really like the class but I’m not good and I’m not really doing well in it. The teachers nice and we learn a lot but I find myself failing. Oh well at least I know how to identify keys and play Silent Night. I’m still kinda uneasy about the idea of switching classes. Especially cause I’ll be leaving people I really enjoy spending time with no matter the outcome, or I’ll remain in the class bored and dying. Urgh I just wish I could lay in bed and read books it’s too cold to do anything besides that. But I have to be a functioning teen.. eye makeup and all (T⌓T)! It’s all good tho:( I have Science and Digital Imaging today which is fun I like those classes. Hah I’m still thinking about my fucked hairline yesterday. And the lighting and the makeup I looked like urgh! I looked so F-ing scary! I looked like a bruja argh! I’ve been justifying my TC cause we have like the same age gap as my parents so it’s like

yes!! i have many, so i tried to make it easier for you to navigate :)

L O N G post ahead of you, covering lecture notes and readings notes, from a college senior :)

lecture notes:

i suggest using a notebook and pen, physically writing down. it’s easier to study, and since it’s using your body, you have a much higher retention rate on your side than if you use a laptop.

i have used my laptop for taking notes before. it’s easier to take more notes, word for word, but that’s not always helpful. maybe that’s your style, especially if you enjoy rewriting your notes all pretty and more successfully when you get home. i am not that girl. 

more notes does not always equal better! it’s good for you to listen actively, selecting what is important and what is not. i take very thorough notes. i take a lot of notes. if you need notes for a missed class, i. am. your. girl. that doesn’t mean i write out everything word for word. selecting details, clauses, and images really helps me to not only keep up, but also to memorize later. plus, when you’re typing, it’s easier to type all the words out without really processing the whole meaning. remember that dense notes are harder to study

finally, when you write by hand, you can get more creative with your style. occasionally, i’ll web notes out from one, rather than a traditional outline, bc it makes more sense for the topic

it also helps my anxiety! so much! if i force myself to take great in depth notes, then my mind has to dedicate more brain space to the task at hand than to my anxieties.

stick to one of these though. it really sucks to get into a test and realize you didn’t study half of your notes bc you forgot half were on your laptop. it’s awful lol.

if you use a laptop, get used to how it works first. do u know how much i resent trying to switch from a bullet that is under other bullets (like this one, not filled in) to a main point bullet (the ones filled in). it can be so confusing. also make sure you use a program you like. you can take directly into documents, but i find that i really love evernote, as i can make notebooks for classes, stacks of notebooks for my college, and that i can tag notes with specific classes and topics.

if you’re on paper, for fuck’s sake, divide your notebook into sections for classes. keep it all together. those notebooks with handy dandy dividers are so helpful, and they keep you from carrying around 5 notebooks at once.

i wouldn’t worry too much about highlighters and such in class. there’s just so much going on then. save highlighting and color coding for later, and count it as studying.

don’t worry about traditional outlining styles, with roman numerals or whatever. i take notes very simply. bullets/dashes, subnotes under a broad note. 

do it how it makes sense to you! maybe that includes different bullet styles, different places for different types of information (on a simple level, i start writing chapter numbers and titles as far to the left as i can go, over the margins, in bold and capital letters. i also usually go over these later in a certain color marker)

in some classes it is helpful for me to write the topic along the top of the page in a highlighter (color coding is lovely) the main idea/topic for each page. the classes this was most obviously helpful in were astronomy (COMETS or BLACKHOLES etc) and shakespeare (MUCH ADO ACT 2 or ROMEO etc)

it’s easiest to just note page numbers of referenced complex diagrams, as they are usually in your reading or accessible online

your style might look different in each class. whatever works.

note everything (everything) your professor writes on the board. if it’s important enough for your professor to write it, it’s probably important enough for you to write it.

note examples only if it’s helpful for your memory. however, make light note of things like famous people and their science/psych experiments. but in math and such, note! the! examples! and! reasons! will help you so much.

examples that have emotion, imagery, or sound are going to be more helpful. applicable examples are most helpful. good professors will lecture you accordingly. lazy ones will not.

star anything that the professor stresses or hints will be tested. anything that they say is a major theme or whatever.

note main ideas/points/themes, definitions, conclusions, 

use your tests to help you figure out what you need to know. ask questions about the tests too. in every class i’ve taken, i’m totally shocked at how willingly people ask about exam format and how willingly the professor will tell us how it will work. they want you to succeed.

people learn differently! i suggest taking notes in class and later adding touches that help you. count it as study time too. a warm up, if you will. 

if you’re visual, this might include highlighting, color coding, drawing diagrams, etc.

 if you’re an auditory learner, reading the notes out loud and organizing them accordingly, as well as making up rhymes, rhythms and such, might help you. some auditory learners actually like to record lectures and listen to them later. 

if you learn best through movement, rewriting or making flashcards will be great for you.

sometimes professors go really. fuckin. fast. why. idk? but

dont be afraid to ask them to go back a slide bc i guarantee, you will be the class hero for asking

develop a little bit of shorthand. sometimes i end up using initials, arrows, abbreviations… this is where i got “bc” and “thru” and “u” and such. lol. also, list things vertically, rather than using commas and “and/&/+) it’ll be more clear later

some professors you literally cannot take notes on. it sucks. you’re going to need to do the readings and pick their brains on how the test will be to figure out how to prepare. take home tests are your best friend. thank god for them. seriously. get your butt to church and do some worshipping.

if your professor puts powerpoints online, save the powerpoints, ya never know.

look at inspiration if you want, but remember that notes on studyblr are usually copied from class notes. if you’re too focused on how pretty your notes are, good luck to you

finally, the day before an exam, i review my notes that i have (hopefully) been studying. i like to make a one page cheat sheet / study guide on everything i didn’t remember, leaving out everything i understand, memorized, or want to disregard. 

reading notes:

ima be real and tell you i hardly ever do reading unless i will be tested on it in class in multiple choice. and im an english student. ye i suck, i know. i dont condone shirking the system but u know what, reading shakespeare or 18th century lit literally makes me want to kill myself. so, im a senior in college, and have barely ever done the reading for a class. the thing is, if you do it right, anything is better than just reading the words on the page and not getting the meaning. dont be a reading zombie. read actively, even if it’s not the actual reading. doing this, i have a 3.9 gpa. so. there’s hope for us yet.

first of all, yall need to do your damn reading. idc how. but due to the fact that a test will be multiple choice, essay answer, a presentation, or a paper, you’re going to not love pulling nothing out of your ass. can be done tho. just be fake deep.

that being said, i’m writing a lot below, but the reality is that if it’s lit, your notes dont have to be longer than a sentence. if it’s a textbook, more.

the same formatting question comes into play here, except it’s should you take notes in your book or in a notebook?

listen i’m always going to be pro notebook, pro physically writing it out as it helps me really get the information into my head, rather than more passively highlighting

i tend to do both, if im willing to mark up a book. i underline and highlight things that stick out to me, and i write them down as well. sometimes when reading literature/essays, if i know the contextual/meaning notes will be interesting to me later, i will copy notes both into my notebook and also less in depth onto post it notes (which also make sweet little flashcards btw), which i will stick into the passage. this is so helpful when a) im reading it again later and b) when we are discussing a passage in class

buy used books. it’s cheaper. until it happens to u, u do NOT UNDERSTAND how EXCITING it is to get a book that has highlights and underlines in it ALREADY. DUDE. my work is basically DONE for me. now take that lightly, bc often different ppl will highlight different pieces of information. however, it is helpful.

look up summaries. do not simply rely on cliffsnotes and sparknotes, esp since professors are very aware of these. google “title of book, summary, chapter notes, whatever youre looking for” and use the blog posts, the book reviews, the papers that come up. does this method probably take a bit longer? maybe? but it’s easier on my tired brain.

if you don’t have time to read your textbook one day and really want to, read the introduction and the conclusion to the chapter, or the first and last sentences to the paragraphs. it’s not great, but it’s something.

like your lectures, note definitions, conclusions, and helpful examples, as well as people and dates. if i’m reading literature and i’m deciding to be a smart student i will keep several logs as well. these logs will make it so. easy. to study for your exam:

updated character lists, including name, relationships, and anything defining and important

scene/chapter summaries, just a sentence summarizing what happened where

any quotes or themes that stand out

i highly highly highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of the well educated mind for note taking on a range of genres. this is what i had to use through high school and while it’s involved, it’s incredibly helpful.

if you’re going to have to cite your notes, note the page number in the margin every time you flip the page

the biggest issue i have with reading is when and where to do it. before or after class? always ask your professor if they do not tell you. where in your notebooks? i always do it on the next blank page bc leaving space stresses me the fuck out. make notes on the top of your pages of corresponding lectures/readings. 

for both lectures and readings i really really really suggest either having something to drink or something to snack on (think fruit, loose nuts, m&ms. small loose things rather than things u bite? idk they just last longer?)

okay i hope this was somewhat helpful even tho it’s an incredibly longwinded post. it seems like a lot, but the reality is that while i take a lot of notes, i don’t make them complicated, i don’t have rules, i just do what feels right in the moment. they’re not at all stressful. just take it easy and do whatever works for you :)

So I wanted to talk to you but I knew not to because you would not understand or you wouldn't care but maybe you would see it later and come ask me what about it or maybe yell but I was hoping ask me as you did. I did good in not bothering you, didn't I?" "Mmhmm I saw your face in the video, after I could tell you were holding it in" "Well thank you! You think I did good?!" "Actually yes. You looked down right pleasant" Matt laughs. "She says it's so surprising!" " Now back to Dejoria, anyways so I was wanting o bother you so bad! But I knew it wasn't you but I said "God if it wasn't her don't let me see her and I didn't!" "I know I was surprised to see it later I was all woah she didn't even say shit usually she screams or something" Matt laughs again "Anyways so that's why I wanted to talk to you and that's it." Alrighty then. I heard she had been a bad girl the night before but I had also talked to her and she had expressed displeasure at Jesse James, saying she didn't go out with the girls cause she either opens her mouth and says something stupid or because Jesse is always trying to sabotage her. Which is why I kinda wondered after seeing it if Jesse had altered something for the steering or wheels or weight or something to cause it to drift. So I guess she could went out and rebelled/revenged against the world and done stupid shit or Jesse could went with her and did it too. IDK. I heard it was just her being very bad. And so it's really stupid for her to do that because I heard she been doing good. IDK. IDK I hope she had really been good since her last wreck and so now she had to learn again that she cannot be a bad girl or else. Or maybe it wasn't exactly her being bad or maybe it was just her being tempted. IDK what happened. I wasn't told anything exactly definite. I would suppose the level of pain she felt would determine the level of bad/evil she let herself experience. Or maybe it was something else altogether. I'm very tired. Last race weekend was ridiculous and I could not wait for it to be over. I'm glad some points were made about things but I was just so happy when people shut up and left me alone. And so because I was nice in my after discussion she told me she just thought it. And so she knows it was just a lesson to behave and that's all. She's doing really good. Not everyone can change and grow and decide to do better. She knew what she was doing was just getting more evidence for a longer prison sentence but didn't care. Until her hip broke. Then she knew. Lucky for her she may be pacing herself into, not quite Heaven yet, but in a much nicer place for herself after death. For instance, Jesse makes my life hell. When he's dead, he will be repaid a tenfold plus then he has to repay all the millions of money he made, because God chose to bless him instead of punish him but Jesse could not and would not appreciate that I'm actually really proud of Dejoria. I really am. I'm happy. I am so so so happy to be proud of her because I truly believed that I would never ever ever be even a tiny bit proud of her and always feel that she was doing things to show up, to be fancy, like someone who tries to hide they grew up in a trailer park and so use a fancy English accent (someone may say I did that but I got the accent from the lady on PBS cause I for real liked her cause she was totally sweet and awesome) I just always thought she would be fake. So I'm so pleasantly surprised And I'm glad that makes her feel better that my emotions about her are positive. Because that shows alot of growth. Like one time I told her I loved he several years ago. I thought she hated that enough to kill me. I was just in a good mood and she said she was going to go to sleep which meant she was leaving and would be gone and I was all yay I love you! It was just random and spontaneous and whoa yeah she was not happy. She thought I was lying I was just being honest. She was being cool that night. I love my enemies. As much as I hate them, I want them to do better I hate they annoy me. I want them to do better Doesn't mean I like them or I won't go back to "Being mean" I just want everyone to do better If they bug the shit out of me and they quit. Idc If they win a million dollars on the lotto. Because I already won. I got peace AND quiet. That's all I fucking want. That's why people are stupid to say I'm jealous. People don't understand me. Especially in the NHRA. they just don't get it. They're too competitive. If someone else wins then it means they lost. It's just not true. That's why I like to interpret accidents or wins or what ever. So that people can see a more distinct life than winning or losing. Like Dejoria. She didn't just get into an accident. She learned something. Something that SHOULD help her for the rest of her life. To teach her. To learn. She says it helps. The other day my aunt called and said her trailer broke down and asked me to go see about it. My aunt and I fell out a very long time ago and we just hadn't been able to reclick. Despite probably losing some expensive things she got from her dad's death, we were able to reclick. I feel so much better. I had no idea how much I needed that reclick. It was desperate. It's just a personal thing. But I mean it so totally sucked for her to lose that stuff. Turns out she has no idea where she left it and was not near where I was at all so it didn't help her at all to get her stuff. But she told me, you know, of course she was crying because she totally loved her awesome dad and wanted a few things, she said she just wanted love. And so she was happy I tried everything I could to find it although she didn't get Jack shit. We found each other and to her that's most important and to her own father as well. That's the kind of person I am as well. It's not fun and it totally sucks. But I'm hoping that cops helped out and stuff. IDK. Anyways. We will see. They often get my stuff I leave random places and they put it in storage for me, to prove theyre not just stalkers but also trustworthy. And that I have amnesia. So I hope they got it for her. I asked. So hopefully we can put a big tearful smile on her face. It will mine. So I just wanted to say my "boyfriend's" wreck two weeks ago was not because he was bad. When Courtney wrecks and I bring it up, it's because an issue in her family (her mom, most often) It's a lesson. It's serious. But bad things don't just happen to bad people. My aunt is absolutely amazing. She's loving and kind and so so so so smart although my mom says the most horrible things about her (my mom is jealous). I can't say enough about my aunt And for the record. She is not my biological aunt, she married my uncle whom as abusive to her and she left him. Crazy huh? But totally true. She's one of my most favorite people. (Leave her alone or I'll kick your ass) So Dejoria admits to being tempted and that makes her a bad girl. She should not let people make her want to hurt herself by hurting other people. It's not okay. Hurting herself and hurting others are both bad things. Okay so. Life is what you make it. Want love or want power. Want to steal magic powers of a small child, it's wrong plus dumb because it's a lie. Go to church. Learn God. Don't fuck with a kid. And because bad things happen it doesn't mean that nothing good ever will. Sometimes it means that something even more amazing will occur that would had never happened other wise. And it's not just me creating miracles. I need them, too. I'm human just as well as anyone else
