debunking lies zutara shippers say about the atla creators & writers

disclaimer: this is in no way an endorsement or defense of bryke or anyone mentioned. literally just debunking false statements i see spread throughout and outside the fandom as it pertains to kataang

1. that bryke made kataang endgame because the nice guy should get the girl

this is something I see often usually linked with this video of a man ⬇️ who they claim to be bryan/mike echoing this sentiment.

this man is in fact john o’bryan, one of the three known zk shippers in the writers’ room (we’ll expand on this in point 5) talking about how he saw aang. not the creators. so of course it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he doesn’t even like kataang in the first place.

2. that bryke made kataang endgame last minute and zutara was the original pairing

bryan and mike (notice how i’m using both of their names separately. this too will be important in the next point) have talked about how kataang was planned since they originally wrote the show.

they have also talked ad nauseam in a video (which I will not share here cuz it made a lot of ppl angry) about why they do not like zutara and its shippers, so this entire point is bogus.

++ the reason why they say zk was the original pairing is because of one of the zk writers (joshua hamilton) wrote this in the atla fun facts that used to run on tv. (we’ll get into him later) those atla fun facts contain a lot of inaccurate/non canon “facts” which you can check and verify on avatar wiki if you know what i’m talking about.

3. that aang is bryke’s self insert (specifically mike)

yeah, here’s where the separation becomes important. bryan (L) and mike (R) are two different men. mike has never said that aang was his self-insert, nor has he directly talked about relating to aang. bryan, however, constantly talks about how much he relates to zuko. even, going as far to say he tries to think like zuko when he writes characters and shows.

the only time mike has come close to saying he relates to aang is when dante said he thinks mike is more like aang while bryan is more like zuko, and they, mostly bryan, agreed. (mike has actually said he relates to korra more than aang but hey) bryan also is the one who drew mike’s beard on adult aang because he considered it a nice reference to his friend. this is the main reason why shippers ran with that self-insert narrative because half the time, they think bryke is actually one person ☠️

++ in fact, aang’s original character design is based off the mixed black-chinese son of sifu kisu

4. that atla was supposed to have a season 4 where katara and zuko got together

this is mostly something that has come out of a fabricated interview by the head writer, aaron ehasz. he was allegedly asked what he would have liked to do if given the chance to write a fourth season of the show and talked about an azula redemption arc among other things. zutaras then made up a whole fake interview including that he wanted to make the two characters endgame.

ehasz then came out to say that most of these “interviews” were faked and that he has never talked about having a preference for any ship. if you go on his twitter, you will see him talking about an azula redemption arc tho.

as for atla having a 4th season at all, it was never intended. the creators, the music composers have all said at various points in time, the show was written and pitched as three seasons, three elements.

5. that most of the other writers shipped zutara and bryke’s authoritarianism shut it down

as I said above, only three writers on the original show have come out to say they preferred zk at some point. atla has had a total of 21 staff writers. 3 out of 21 is not most if you ask me.

as for bryke (yes now i’m using the shorthand cuz i proved my point earlier) being authoritarians, no writer or staff that has worked with them on the show has said this so…? idk where that came from but i’m not here to back them up just mention facts.

6. that all the women who worked on the franchise shipped zutara while only men shipped kataang

atla has very few female staff as it is:

so i’m not sure what defines all and only for some ppl but those definitions are not in my dictionary. disclaimer: i’m not declaring anyone here as a shipper in any official sense. this is just based off statements they have made that you can google!

7. that katara is written poorly in post-atla content because of kataang/bryke

I mean the first part isn’t really a lie, more of an opinion which I can agree with to an extent.

why I mention this here is because zks will not only go on a tangent and link the misogyny in the writing to a m/f ship and say the other m/f ship would have been more feminist…

but they also refuse to hold all the men involved accountable. like I said, 3 known atla writers shipped zk and 2 of them (joshua & john) were men (who would’ve thought men could like a ship and it could still be considered feminist 😃). they were also 2 out of only 4 atla writers that came back for legend of korra, outside of the creators. (19 to 4 ☠️ no comment). these shippers very well know this and instead of holding these men accountable for the misogynistic writing, they instead brag about them shipping it and ask them about zk whenever they have the chance.

another example is gene luen yang, a comic writer who again shipped zk (another man GASPPPPP) responsible for the first 5 comic books. everyone knows his comics suck in terms of characterization, particularly katara’s. in fact zutaras have made multiple threads on how poor the writing is. funnily enough, they always fail to mention that gly was the script writer or acknowledge his part in this mischaracterization, while bragging about him shipping zk in other posts. ironic.

meanwhile, bryke have never offered writers’ commentary on any of gly’s comics besides the search - mike (because they were mostly writing legend of korra during his run.)

basically these shippers don’t care about misogyny or holding male writers accountable if they ship zk which is funny because I thought it was… for the female gaze? why are you hyping men shipping it anyway? confusion.

So, Keith is about 11 years older than Liu, and, when he was looking for friends, Keith took advantage of them. This lead to Liu basically being groomed until he was 12. I HC that Randy had a lil “crush” on Jeff and Keith kept Liu “out of the way” by consistently r—ping him.

Things at home weren’t great for him either. Peter was under the impression that his mom was a virgin with no kids (incell vibes), and when he found out Liu existed Peter decided to take it out on him. He would be locked in a dark closet of the basement for days on end. If he “misbehaved” too much, Peter would put him in the clothes dryer (also in the basement) for however long he deemed necessary.

Eventually Liu couldn’t take it and he hung himself.

Sir Lewis Hamiltion has a dog, his dog is the goodest boy in the world, and I know too much about his dog so now you must suffer with this knowledge as well enjoy:

Lewis adopted Roscoe, a English bulldog, from an online adoption agency in 2013.Roscoe is a purebred bulldog with both his mom and dad being show dogs. Roscoe's name was chosen because Lewis thought it but Crofty calling Nico ‘Roscoe’ at the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix makes me have my doubts. Lewis later adopted Coco, a female bulldog. Coco’s breeder was originally going to put her down due to how expensive her health conditions, mostly likely a heart condition, were but Lewis stepped in. If you are trying to tell Coco and Roscoe apart in photos, Coco has a wider white stripe on her head. It is widest around the top of her head. Roscoe has more wrinkles and a brown spot on his snout and his strip ends at the top of his head and a new one starts off center in the back of his head. Coco’s fang teeth are also out more often compared to Roscoe's little teeth and she is a lighter color than Roscoe. Lewis expressed that he adopted the dog because his family has always had dogs, mostly labradors, but he said he always wanted an English bulldog. Coco lived till June 2020 when she passed in the night. Lewis and Roscoe were with her. His mom has five dogs! Both Roscoe and Coco have passports so they can travel with Lewis. Lewis was also granted special permission from Bernie Ecclestone to bring the dogs to the padlock (I assume Charles will ask Domenicali to bring Leo to the Padlock). 

Lewis brought a jet to fly with the dogs which he then sold in 2019. Roscoe is good with traveling due to his love of napping. In his first trip with Lewis he slept through most of the flight waking up to go to the bathroom and to make Lewis put him in his lap. Lewis followed Roscoe's command, sleeping with Roscoe in his lap like “a baby.” Lewis said, “Roscoe is the best travel pet, he just sleeps with you.” As Roscoe is getting older, Lewis has made the decision to travel less with him, as the time zones were getting hard on him. While Lewis is racing, Roscoe stays in Los Angeles, California with dog trainer Kirstin McMillan (adventuresindogtraining on instagram). Lewis says he gets pictures of Roscoe everyday and checks in on him. Roscoe also attends a dog park or “Los Angeles' first canine social club” as stated on their website called ‘Dog PPL’ in Santa Monica. It is about $120 a month for one dog.  

Not only is Roscoe Lewis’s son but also his best friend. Lewis talked about his instant connection when they first met. Roscoe gets sad when Lewis leaves and happy when he returns. Lewis says, “Then I get the Frisbee and play with him, and that’s, for me, the biggest highlight – the unconditional love you get from a pet like that.” Roscoe loves quad bikes. In one interview, Lewis said it’s because he’s lazy so he likes being driven around. However, I think it’s because he has taken after his dad and wants to race. When Fortnite asked him to be in the game he said he would only agree if Roscoe was in the game with him. Fortnite, of course, agreed because Roscoe is an angel. They ended up putting him in a jet pack. He was 1,500 V-Bucks or 2,400 V-Bucks with the ‘Lewis Hamilton Budle’ (IDK if thats a lot I don’t play Fortnite). Lewis also said Roscoe is the only person he can count on to stand with him along with Bono.

After Coco’s death, Lewis took Roscoe to the vet where they recommended starting him on a vegan diet similar to what Lewis has. This vegan diet is often recommended to bulldogs because they often have food intolerances or allergies to the meat proteins that can affect the skin and gastrointestinal tract. The vegan diet Roscoe is on still includes the same things without the meat proteins in it that caused him to have health issues. Lewis has said his breathing has improved and that he no longer has skin allergies. Roscoe also has physical therapy and acupuncture every week to help with his joints.  Roscoe has also had health issues that caused him to ejaculate, often uncontrollably, scaring baby Roscoe and leading to him getting snipped in 2016. Lewis did have his sperm frozen so that Roscoe could have puppies. Lewis said, “It’s great his genes will live on.” Lewis said his plans were to have Roscoe’s puppies after he retires but with the fanzone in 2024 Australia GP, it sounds to me like he may be looking sooner to have Roscoe’s pups or to retire. Last year, around the British GP, Roscoe had some issues regarding his spine. If I remember correctly, it involved a slipped hernia in his spine. Luckily, he got stem therapy and was able to attend the GP. He has been improving, and as of today he is back to normal.

Now for the part most people know about. Roscoe started his instagram account, roscoelovescoco, in January 2015 with a post featuring Coco and him captioned “Thanks for following us :).” The instagram account was originally a joint account with both Coco and Roscoe until 2020, although both did get solo posts. As expected Roscoe does make money off his Instagram, but he is also a dog model. Lewis said in a Silver Arrows interview in 2021 that he gets paid $700 a day which goes in Roscoe's treat fund. Roscoe also has sponsorships. His Thanksgiving party was sponsored by Bramble Pets, and he did content (including a commercial) for Zapp, a food delivery company Lewis invested in. Roscoe also appears in Lewis' vlog channel (it hasn’t been updated since 2021) multiple times. When non-native ppl saw those rivers that couldn't be traversed by boats, they thought the water itself has no buoyancy.

-Also, there was a portion of Gobi Desert the historical Xuanzang crossed, 莫贺延碛, which had the alternate name "Sand River"; in Xuanzang's biography, this was also where he was awoken from his thirst-addled sleep by an unnamed great deity. Much like how this desert deity would later evolve into Sandy, the "Sand River" would also become a literal river in the JTTW story cycle.

-We learn the real reason SWK isn't good at underwater combat: he either needs to use one hand to cast a Water-repelling Spell in order to move freely, or transforms into an aquatic critter, both of which would get in the way of wielding his staff.

-Hmmm, why couldn't he just grow a third arm (sth he's obviously capable of, given his fight with Nezha) and use it to maintain the spell while bashing some aquatic demons' head in? Maybe only 1 concentration spell is allowed at a time, D&D style...

-I feel like we've all wondered what the job of "Curtain-raising General" entails—is he like, literally the guy at the gate who lifted those fancy bead-curtains every time a celestial came through? Well, kinda. Not really.

-In internal alchemy, Earth represents ideation/determination, specifically, that of attaining immortality. When the ideation stills, it is known as "Yin-Earth", and when it stirs, the "Yang-Earth", collectively referred to as "Two-Earths". It functions as the catalyst and meditator between the Spiritual Mind(Wood) and Vital Energy(Metal), which must come together and mingle during cultivation to form the Golden Elixir.

-Thus, Sandy's soon-to-be role as the Only Sane Man and meditator between SWK and Pigsy.

Yet again another figure skater - Chinese ice dancer Xinyu Liu - has been accused of various s*x related crimes:

Here is a short summary:

Xinyu Liu's Instagram account has been hacked and his name been changed "turning myself in for raping minors". His Instagram account has now been deleted but screenshots have been shared on Weibo (you can find them in @delayed3A (x/twt) account.

Xinyu Liu is accused of:

- using the athlete fund of the Chinese fed to go out and consume drinks with marijuana

- using the fund to ask international students out, treat them to dinner and then sleep with them. Afterwards he ghosted them. He also allegedly took pictures and videos of the girls/women, some of them who are minors, with the alleged intention to blackmail them. The hacker has many screenshots of girls proving his claim.

- one girl being treated so badly by him that she tried to attempt suicide and ended up in hospital. This has been on the Douban news but was taken down due to the pressure of his management.

- Xinyu Liu and his ice dance partner Shiyue Wang allegedly misused the athletes fund for their own entertainment

Shiyue Wang - his ice dance partner - said that they would go against the hackers and have turned this in to the police. Xinyu Liu, who has no access to his accounts on Instagram or Weibo, spoke through Shiyue Wang's account that he had been maliciously attacked and that it's untrue.

Personal note: Here is the thing though that through private DMs part of this accusations that he raped a minor had been shared since September/October 2023 (that's when I heard it). As we see how accusations are handled in IAM (with Nikolaj Sørensen) and the sport in general and how many accusations come to light it's hard to believe all things are false, especially when the poster who hacked the Instagram acc said he has evidence for the crimes and shared some censored "evidence" as well. Survivors don't gain anything with coming forward. The way this came out may have been uncoventional but as a rumor about Xinyu Liu being investigated has been around for a while I have no reason to not side with the survivors.

So my appeal is yet again BELIEVE SURVIVORS!

There are much more ppl accused who are guilty than those that are not. And most cases are never brought to light at all. And the list in this case of the allegations is long. Believe survivors!

I just rechecked ur blog and i saw u replied to me and ajsjdnkdkdn im so honored u wanna know more abt my culture😭😭😭 but before i start rambling i just wanna say im apart of two chinese clans? Cultures? Idk how to say it but i googled it and its called a province so province it is! My mom is fu jian and my dad is fu jian AND ke jia, but since my grandma's(ke jia) influence is so strong and most of my grandpa's(fu jian) relatives are 💀 i actually have an equal share of both cultures. By that i mean like, two different languages, which are thankfully just spoken, not written, and also lots of different food and pronunciations! For example, instead of hongbao, i say angbao.

Okay, so! I think one of the most prominent things i've grown up with is like, nicknames. And one thing i see is so common in tgcf fanfictions is the "A". Like: A-lian, A-qing, A-xin. Which okay, its actually used but its actually very uncommon(at least where i've grown up). Only person that uses it is my family is like, my grandpa and its to ny grandma. My grandma calls him BY NAME its actually crazy. We tend to use more double names? Idk how to say it but for example Mu Qing would be Qing Qing, Shi Qingxuan would be Xuan Xuan yk? My parents only call me by that, but the purpose of the nick names would be to mostly shorten the names becus most ppl have 3 character names. So unfortunately someone like Xie Lian(who has a 2 character name) would be refered to mostly as Xie Lian and not A-Lian or lian lian😭 And! The "A" prefix isn't only used from the last character! Sqx can also be refered to as A-qing as well as A-xuan, as well as A-qingxuan(its complicated)

For family stuff, younger siblings usually never refer to older ones by name. Like sqx would call swd ge ge, wu du ge, du gege but never outright Wudu.

And i also found out u wrote cheap villain??? I owe everything to you its so WELL WRITTEN?? AND THE PLOT?? ITS SO GOOD KIKE KSJDJD BUTTtttt one thing i've actually wondered is like accents. Like in english, ppl who speak mandarin tend to have accents! And ppl in BeiJing have a very prominent one. First time i tried talking to someone in BeiJing i had trouble understanding cus even tho we were speaking the same language it sounded so different! The tcgf donghua actually sounds a lot more similar to tawainese than like native mandarin cus it sounds so clean cut, if ykwim??? Like the pronunciation in the donghua is GOODDD and so SHARP(i may be jealous). BeiJing mandarin tends to sound more round and so I would've liked to see like, mu qing waking up in a whole new reality, starts speaking, and xie lian is like: "huh? What? Mu qing, SLOW DOWN WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!?" I think it would've been funny, in my opinion😭😭 (do i sound fussy again i hope this comes off as light hearted😭)

Doyoung isn't an unpopular member, other than maybe Europe doyoung has alot of fans in other parts of the world... Ifans aren't just white/western fans, I'm brown and South Asian but I call myself an ifan.

I still think he has to think everything over, if he wants to keep catering to Korean fans then he should be ready for a backlash when he messes up. He's human so he will mess up.

Koreans don't think Japanese and Chinese fans are equal to them. They consider SEA fans as shit and always call them xenophobic names.

A few days back a few fans were angry that doyoung was so focused on his Korean fans that that felt left out. The shippers and most ppl who didn't even have doyoungs dp basically bullied those few fans off twitter. Do you think this will help doyoung, most ppl will just leave the idol. Yesterday I basically stopped following almost all shipper accounts.

As for doyoung not being popular to have translated content, I guess anon wasn't there when things were happening. Do digest was totally subbed as it used to be telecasted, do always had fans who worked the hardest to translate stuff quickly.

I don't think Twitter fandom is an image of most fans, most general idol fans don't even have twitter. But the way the whole drama was played out yesterday made me realise that 127 have the same fans that BTS have and that disappointed me.

I've seen fans bullying fanfic writers or fans who were not happy with their idol.

Also I agree with the fans who felt disappointed. I'm a grown ass women but I know how much popstars taking the name of your country makes u feel close to them. Even YouTubers are sent country names without any reason on live streams, so a fan feeling like doyoung being in America should be him giving attention to the fans in the western hemisphere.

Doyoung has always had Korean comments on when he did most of his vlives. Noone talked abt it as he couldn't and can't speak English.

But both times he's been in America he's sent msgs to Koreans, even yuta was vague enough to make everyone happy...

I can go on for days how much teenage boys treat girls they don't find attractive differently but here's my most recent experience

Okay first of all I just want to say the experience varies, some guys are only friends with girls they don't find attractive cus it's easier and they don't have to get nervous around them, these kinda guys r usually alr but sometimes they view u as a man/male friend and it can be very degrading

some guys are only friends with girls they find attractive and it's not necessarily always with the intentions of dating sometimes just for attention or a pretty face to look at imo. These kind of guys are usually not kind to girls they don't find attractive

either way the experience of girl, especially black girl, who's not conventionally attractive is not always a fun one.

Currently, I'm at summer camp and it's been really fun for the most part. Today we were doing some art group work thingy and I went to a group with two guys just to see their stuff. I stood there and asked them if I could see their stuff like 5-6 times and they just ignored me and didn't say anything. Like nothing like "no" or anything. It was until I went ahead to just peek at it anyway, just for one of them to say "you'll see it fully when we win"

that wasn't bad of anything but what really set me off is how they treat me differently compared to the other girls at the camp.

For example one of the guys I approached in particular has been very kind to some other girls, one time he pulled out a chair for one of my friends and even pulled the seat closer to him, some other girls were standing too but he only offered the seat to her and like was really nice to her. Then another time he named his first aid dummy another girl's name and ik this doesn't all sound super romantic, but they were really "bold" advances and some of the girls at camp agreed

I've engaged in conversation with him but I can tell he likes to talk to the other girls better and that whole ignoring thing was just so fucking embarrassing.

Also keep in mind everyone in my class is Asian but me, specifically the class is mostly Chinese. (No hate to Chinese people)

Sorry if it seems like I'm overreacting but I really feel like he wouldn't have acted that way if I was someone else

In the past I've had a lot of personality issues, like I've not always been the kindest person. I'm still not but I'm a lot better than I was back then, a lot of guys hated me back then and I really still think it was cus

1. I'm not conventionally attractive

2. I'm decently smart/high achieving in academics

3. I'm black, loud & opinionated

The attractive thing really plays a part cus the girls at my summer camp people showed interest in are extremely loud and rude. And I'm sorry if that sounds like a pick me thing but gosh there were a lot of moments I hoped they'd calm down and shush a lil bit

they were really nice to me and appreciate that a lot, they just openly talked shit about a lot of people

one girl would loudly talk about how she homewrecked a couple cus she thought the guy was too hot for the girl. The other would talk about she hated ppl who didn't have symmetrical faces and they were still desired by guys (maybe not the second one cus she was not really the standard beauty anyway, but that still proves my point)

so if they are desired when they r bitchy & loud? why can't I????

My bitchy was a lot different kind of bitchy, like not to justify it but my main issue was being very judgemental and always calling out racism. Ik the calling out racism doesn't sound bad but I just did it all the wrong ways, I'd legit curse people out and report them to teachers.

I was just an angry preteen but I really regret the way I went about justice back then, I've honestly learnt just to accept the racism cus ppl my age especially guys will never change their racist ways and If I fight back everyone's gonna hate me

sometimes I do set boundaries but arguing is not worth it anymore.

Don't forget I was also very judgemental. it's a bad habit of mine but sometimes stupid people really piss me off...

Another thing that contributed to why I was so hated was cus I was a smart black girl in a predominantly Asian school (grd 6&7 yr) I really didn't notice the racism from the Asians for a long time until one of them started being really forward about it and it suddenly made sense why I was excluded and didn't have too many friends when I moved to the school despite the fact I was very extroverted.

There was this one chinese guy in that particular class he questioned why I was so unathletic when I was black and why I was good at math

Cus apparently black people can't be good at math and suck at basketball. There was only really one other student who was openly (there were some undercover nerds imo) dominating academics as much as I was in that class and the guys would often use that against me and claim he was smarter than me

the funny thing is that the guy was really humble and did not care, but his insecure friends weaponized it so much.

I still would orather be in an Asian predominant school than white though. Cus in my grade 7 school and current highschool, white people are the minority but I can confidently tell you they are the most open about their racism cus they can get away with it (most of the teachers in my country r white)

After moving away from that school (the grd 6&7 school) to an even worse school, I made friends with the new kid that came after I left the school.

We were somewhat close online and we'd have friendly academic competition, even though we were in different schools. I apparently found out he had been leaking my grades to the boys at his school, even though he knew they hated me and would do anything to see my academic downfall

and I was just so devastated

anyways, I've gone a lil off topic but it all comes down to the point that things would have been majorly different in any school I've been too, if I was their type.

A lot of my past guy crushes or even just guys I've found attractive, hated/disliked me or just found me plain annoying.

At first I used to entirely blame them and everyone around me. Nowadays, I try to recognize the fault in my own actions and work to fix that. I'm not perfect, sometimes I slip in a few insults to men when they piss me off even the slightest bit.

Then I go ahead and overthink it for a little bit, then heavily regret my actions.

I've done that a few times at camp, like I'm cautious of the way I act and the stuff I say now cus I really don't want another class hating me.

It hurts knowing whatever I do will never be enough and any slight mistake I make will be their final impression of me.

In my current high school, I have a decent amount of male friends but they r the kind that are only friends with girls they are not attracted to. Which like I said is not a bad thing but sometimes really degrading cus I don't think they see me as a woman. Also I think my male friends are mostly there for homework answers but whatever lol.

But it's much preferable than to have so many guys hating on you lol, I don't feel male validation but I also don't want male hate.

unbearably jealous of his peers. compared grades with micolash all the time while they were studying, makes it a point to be bitchy to people who he perceives as better than him. probably fired a couple mfs from the choir cos he thought they were too perfect

stole a bunch of micolash’s pills and attempted suicide during his last year of study at byrgenwerth because he hated himself and felt like a directionless failure who wouldn’t be able to do anything in the world

has periods where he gets a little funny with food. not like, a full out issue with it or anything (not until micolash leaves and his beasthood progresses it), but he likes the control of it during stressful times, and he’d be lying if he didn’t want to change himself to be more attractive. he gets upset when micolash doesn’t eat, but thinks it’s ok when he doesn’t cos he means to??

this weird little aversion becomes a Big Problem later on when he’s fighting beasthood. he regards his “humanity” with food restriction behaviours leading to binge/restrict cycles where he freaks out over losing control and becoming beast

practices faces in the mirror for like two hours every evening so that he doesn't look weird in public. when i say this man is a god at masking i mean it

that being said he goes back to his rooms everyday and stares at a wall as part of the recharging process

oh and then he starts his 50 step beauty routine. this man knows every skincare fad under the sun and is willing to believe ALL of it

BUT back at byrgenwerth he was constantly going through identity crises and would impulse cut his hair into every style under the sun. if you think of a hairstyle this man has probably worn it. most, if not all of them looked terrible before he settled on growing it out long (he wears it in a braid that goes to like, his waist, in the healing church era). he had a cute little ponytail for a while
