So my Dell needs to go in for diagnostics and full repair, but my only other semi-functioning computer has lost the backlight to the screen. As a result, I am writing this with my little hp stream hooked up with an hdmi cable to my tv screen, because the cost of fixing the dang thing is more than I paid for it.

I've been on vacation somewhere that has no wifi the past few days (never bothered to say cause I don't need to post my whole life) and I gotta say I hate how I plan my video games to not need wifi while I'm here and then get hit with "you need wifi to update your switch or you can't play any games! You can't update later and just play now update first"

Like I'm sorry but is the update so important I can't play a port of the first Monster Rancher, a game with no internet at all from the PS1

Alastor would love to have a computer because while he still thinky vinyl is the superior medium for music he can't deny that it's more effective to have a digital music library.

He could also built a computer easily, the hardware is no problem for him.

Unfortunately he stopped keeping up with programming in the 60ies, there was just so much going on. And now he can't get any software that is not in some way connected to Vox he doesn't want to admit it, because he's the radio demon, this frivolous digital technology is beneath him, but there is a little part of him that is pissed about it.

And in no way whatsoever melancholic, reminiscing of a past when he and Vox would build them together, Alastor working on the hardware and Vox doing the software.

A past where such actions were meant to be a pleasant hobby, a nice way to pass the time and not a commitment to an unreliable lifestyle that chained itself to whatever new trend arose.

No, he could never miss this old flight of fancy. But he can admit, that he misses the old Vox. His old chum used to be a nice company rather than a persistent annoyance.

I really really love that when Atem first gets to Memory World, he still only has the thoughts and personality of a modern teenager. he's been told over and over again that he's a pharaoh and he's still blown away that everyone is calling him and treating him as such. I love that he's immediately like "what the fuck am I wearing?" and very much NOT going "Yes this finally feels right." that he's "Erm--" and "uh--" -ing all over the place.

I hate how tech companies all talk about how they are going to somehow save the world. Then what they actually produce is one of two things, they either recreate something that already exist but much much worse. (most of the time its either buses or trains for some reason. But I have seen some worse ideas, like storing energy via gravity, you know like a damn.) The other option is of course that there is no feasible way to actually create the product and its an outright scam. (Theranos style, but normally they don't get that far.) Sometimes its even both, like Elon Musk's pathetic attempt at a automated taxi service which relies on his self-driving car mechanics that don't work and have killed people. Its also just public transit made by someone who has no understanding of how public transit works, to the extent that I don't think he has ever actually seen a metro or bus (forget riding on it).

If you're on Windows I also highly suggest WUB, the Windows Update Blocker, which does exactly what it says on the tin. I cannot describe the relief of turning it on and hitting "check for updates" and Windows Updater saying it can't.

To be clear I fully agree with "ask me later" being absolute bullshit and if we do not get the ability to say no to things again soon I will start chewing drywall.

modern technology on the whole is blursed. very difficult these days coming to terms with how much i prefer not looking at a screen whenever possible

My least favourite thing right now is the website design model that decides that a video you didn't know was on the web page you're looking at should automatically play when you scroll down close to it, get much worse when you click on it to try to pause it - because that doesn't pause it or bring up controls, but instead suddenly and unexpectedly unmutes blasting max-volume audio - and then when you've finally paused it and muted the audio, you can expect the video player to reset and do this all over again after you scroll away.

Oh you want to say whatever you want, it just so happens what you want to say is that all black people are inferior and should die. Oh you want freedom in business, to hire people below living wage and abuse them. You want state freedom, to enslave people (the American civil war). Not all freedom is good or desired.

This concept extends further though. You want AI… To Do What

Why do you think keeping AI images is good? Is it because you refuse to pay artists? You refuse to learn yourself? You believe that everyone has a right to not pay artists and steal their work for your mediocre button pushing? You want the freedom to use AI, To Do What?

Why does AI have applicability? Because it’s getting “better” better at what? Not fucking up so badly that it kills people? Finally it’s understanding that maybe it shouldn’t add an extra finger? Oh we’re really cooking now aren’t we. Finally the AI can do the bare minimum. For what purpose though? What can the AI do that a group of real human people with lives, families, friends, and a beating heart, can’t do better?

The AI for breast cancer keeps fucking up so they hire “helpers” to assist it. The people fucked over sue and the Lawyer AI keeps fucking up. They hire “helpers” to assist the lawyer AI. The banks finally pay out but the AI fucks up so they force their interns to become “helpers” too. Oh you’re just “assisting” the AI so we don’t have to Pay You a doctor’s or lawyer’s or financial advisor’s salary. You’re just Helping :)
