Side Note To Fan Fic Authors

Here’s the thing.

I read a lot of scripts.  A lot.  From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies.  Features and pilots.  Specs and treatments.

And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that I’ve read over the last, oh, 15 years is leagues better than this stuff.  It’s more inspired.  It’s more compelling.  It’s genre bending and creative and heartfelt.  It’s well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and meaningful.  It’s smart and thoughtful and good.  It’s novel-quality.  Better than, sometimes.

Rare is the script I don’t want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic? And it’s not even a fan fic author’s day job.  This is what they do on the side.  In their spare time.  For free.

So my point is, fan fic authors, you’re good.  You’re good writers and great storytellers.  I know it doesn’t always feel like it, especially if you’re one of the authors who’s not a BNF and doesn’t get the notes/hits that a few do.  And  because some people still view fic as “not real writing.” You guys know the shit that gets made into movies.  You’re better than that.  So be better than that.  If writing is what you think want to do, then just know you’re already doing it.   You’ve already started.

And you’re more talented than you might think.

Phoenix is a friend, a genuinely lovely person who’s had a really bad time and deserves the very best. You may know her as the author of superb fanfics such as There Is a Light & It Never Goes Out and Don’t Fall Away From Me. She’s such a sweetheart.

This fandom is one of the loveliest I’ve er come across, and we do try to look after our own. If you’ve ever been picked up of the floor by fanfic and been grateful that such a resource of love and beauty and togetherness is available to us, this is an opportunity to give back a little.

Doesn’t have to be much; even a pound will help (or a dollar!). But if we can help this awesome lady and her kids find some stability after an absolute nightmare of a time, well—somewhere and Angel and a demon would be so proud of us.

To my beloved fandom;

A lot of you know me as PhoenixRose314, Tumblr's fandom mom and ineffable author of Don't Fall Away From Me and There Is A Light & It Never Goes Out. This fandom has been such a source of joy for me and has kept me going through some really difficult and dark times, but right now my world is absolutely falling apart.

Through circumstances beyond my control (health reasons - cancer and anxiety and depression), I was let go from my job a few months ago and my children and I can no longer afford to rent our lovely home in our lovely village. This has been incredibly hard for me to accept but once my lease is up I will have run out of savings and my kids and I will no longer have a place to call our own.

I am famously awful at asking for help, however this amazing fandom has convinced me to start this crowdfunder to try and raise enough money to try and buy a small park home or caravan for myself and the kids. It won't be much, but it will be ours, and nobody can take it away from us. I'm currently in the process of selling all my collectibles, furniture and worldly goods to try and raise some of the money myself, but anything you could donate to give my family some stability would be appreciated from the very bottom of my heart.

I hate that it has come to this, I feel so much shame and guilt for being in this position, but I better than anyone know that circumstances can change on a dime, and I hope that all the good and kindness (and fanfiction!!) I've put out into the world might come back to me now.

Can i just say regarding the interpretations of the ending of Good Omens season 3, whatever it turns out to be, it’s for Terry. It’s been planned since before the show was even a thought in someone’s brain.

So don’t argue that you don’t like it, or it’s not the ending you wanted. It’s not your story to tell. It’s Neil’s and Terry’s.

If you don’t like the ending, write a fanfiction. That’s what it’s for right?

Also, I do believe David’s vague wording regarding the ending is just that. He’s being vague purposefully. He won’t give the ending away because he doesn’t want to spoil it for anyone. Also I do believe it may be in his contract that he can’t give anything away. Of course the ending isn’t going to suit everyone, everybody by now has made their own headcanons of what they think will happen.

Please, don’t bug Neil for spoilers, not that he’d give you them anyway. It’s his tribute to Terry. They’ve had this entirely planned out from the beginning and I for one, trust that season 3, will be everything we’ve ever dreamed of with cherries on top if we behave.

So yeah, stop worrying. It will be, what it will be. Stop freaking out.
