i was thinking about what a pre-season 4 mike's vecna visions would look like recently, and that scene with el would literally fit right in. his girlfriend who he cares for but Not Like That trying to pry an answer out of him about why he can't say he loves her? getting defensive and making her cry? having to go against the friends don't lie rule to protect himself? like. i am... hhhh no thoughts just chaos. all you'd have to do is tweak it a bit so that el Inexplicably Knows Everything and hates him for it, being representative of his own negative thoughts towards himself, and it would fit right in with the canon visions from season 4 (mike mouthing off included, because let's be real, he'd do that to vecna's face too). leaving it to play out the way it did plays more into the advantage of a subtle slow burn so that he can't figure out anything's going on too soon, which, if you're going to mess with mike wheeler's head, you need because he's just too smart

california was kind of a nightmare scenario for mike before anything even went "wrong". he had to pretend to be someone he's not, somehow try to be normal with both el and will in the same place, and then el gets hurt and it's kind of his fault ("if you say so" before the music gets turned off and el gets knocked down, which still makes me lose my MIND), then the fight with will, and el schmacking a bully after the boys were unable to track her down fast enough to prevent that and all the drama afterwards... dude's not having a good time. he had no power there, which is the fastest way to get to him, as seen by his rambling about how useless he is and the clear impact that sense of powerlessness (very ironic) has on his mental state. and i'm staring so hard at how weird everything at rinkomania (rink of madness) was, and how disconnected our three characters' perspectives seem to be from each other, and how mike looked confused by will's version (aka our version) of events but was too busy trying to run away from that confrontation of having to vocalise his own feelings to even clarify what he was confused by or what his version of events looked like, which brings what they're both experiencing into question (mike not even looking in will's direction when he rolled his eyes but somehow seeing it anyway — what else aren't they showing us about mike's version by hiding behind will's?). there are those behind the scene photos floating around of noah schnapp at rinkomania in will's desert outfit. idk, i don't trust that place at all

when it comes to season 4 being a manifestation, it's like... this is just my interpretation, but it's pretty clear to me that the curse would be mike's excuse to literally face his demons. it was the Main Event. even when he was shipped away from hawkins and separated from that plot device, he was still trying to sort everything out in his head, which would've ironically been much easier for him to do if he was in a situation like max's — he gives me "only i'm allowed to hate myself, if anyone else does it i'm throwing hands" vibes. but mike still had some influence over things going on in lenora (like the aforementioned "if you say so" demonstrated by angela just ceasing to matter at all after mike called her a nobody) and in the general... area, idk american geography, like suzie's house and the pen with the coordinates and wherever the nina bunker was. i haven't thought about how argyle and the pizza chain plays into this but they might be manifested too (something about the restaurant expanding into nevada and how impressively wide mike's range is —there's no way that russian prison's real — and argyle as like the one person in season 4 just telling someone to "not lie"). el says "i'm real" at the very end of the season when she's with max, which makes me question if she went from "not real" to "real" during her season 4 side plot instead of in season 3. it would make sense since she really starts heading into her independence era once she leaves brenner behind and most likely after the end of season drama with mike, and max and dustin's similar journeys from an Idea of independence (while still circling mike/the party) to Acting on that independence (dustin getting his own side plot after breaking away from the party and max talking about free will while going against mike's wishes) seem to span 2 seasons as well

it's fascinating to me that even with mike as the lynchpin to all this, the main event doesn't follow him. it stays in hawkins. it's not even like the curse is a thing, and the curse also follows mike. it leaves him alone, even with the symptoms that did follow him. it (supposedly) never goes past a nosebleed at dinner and a headache at suzie's house. is that because he's made a mental connection between all his inner angst and his hometown (the smalltown boy agenda), or is it just a result of trying to sideline himself because he thinks he's unimportant? is it because there's no point in opening a gate with his death if he's all the way across the country? wouldn't that be better for vecna's plans of remaking the world? is he just not as willing to put the byers (including el) at risk as he is the hawkins NPCs? or was he actually losing his mind all season and we just didn't know because his perspective was cut off from us?

A little kid and his mother are trick or treating in another city, perhaps at some kind of event rather than knocking on doors, and the kid is dressed as Phantom. It’s very adorable, with his little ghost-shaped bucket and clearly homemade and already stained costume—listen, white only works if you can just fly over street grime or phase it out of your clothes—and his slightly I’ll fitting wig. The kid is SO happy to be out and about dressed as his favorite, and maybe even showed it off to Phantom back in Amity Park before his family left.

The hero, insert whoever you wish here, is probably in civvies and just enjoying the event. The kid, meanwhile, is so glad when people ask who he is so he can explain, and so- the hero gets to hear ALL ABOUT the local town hero who is probably pretty small time despite the kid’s clearly exaggerated stories. The hero certainly never heard of him, but the kid’s mom confirms that Phantom really was the town hero, despite some mixed reviews of the poor guy.

“Did you manage to show him your costume?” the hero asks.

“Yeah! We went down to the cemetery to leave flowers and I got to show him my costume.”

Wait. Cemetery? Maybe it was part of theme, because Phantom had to be named that for a reason, but… it sounded like…

The kid ignores the suddenly VERY still hero and instead turns to his mom. “Momma, do you think we should bring him candy? He doesn’t get to trick or treat like we do, and I can work super hard to get him a bunch!”

The kid’s mom just smiles. “We could, but maybe we should bring him something homemade. I bet he’d like something more filling, teen boys like him have a hollow leg.”

The kid wrinkles his nose. “Like Vernie with the pizza bagels?”

“Like your cousin, yes. We can make some cinnamon rolls and take them to his memorial, maybe bring some of the apples from your grandpa’s garden…”

The hero is pretty much forgotten as the two-part family wanders off, not quite intentionally forgetting the hero is there so much as the hero somewhat accidentally ended the conversation when they just froze and didn’t ask anything further.

Not that the hero didn’t want to. But they’d learn something very serious.

One—there was a small town hero they’d never heard of. Two—that hero was apparently a teen. Third—most pressingly, the teen hero was both beloved enough to have kids dressing up as him and dead enough to have a grave.

This… might require some phone calls.

Ya know, Timmy deliberately making it harder for a kis to become a Fairy, so they wouldn't have to deal with that burden

It can make for a interesting story. Especially if Dev ever found out, I think he'd be angry at Timmy and think of him as selfish. And since this is Dev, he might even accuse others like Hazel, Wanda, Cosmos, and of course Peri, to all being against him. To Dev, they don't actually care about him, just his wishes. Even if Timmy isn't an antagonist, to Dev he could be no different from one.

It would make for an interesting story! Although, realistically, Dev wouldn't care much for becoming a fairy. It won't solve his problems of wish granting or the fact that what he actually wants is the attention of his father. Being a fairy ain't fixing that.

It is a nice thought experiment though.

A few seconds later Danny opened the door again and once again meet a certain tallish young man, around his age if maybe a few years older, in front of him...

Bruce Wayne....

Bruce freaking Wayne, someone according to what he heard from Sam telling him from what she heard from her parents had apparently just dropped out of med school and was 'in the wind' according to rich elite gossip talks, was at his front door.

........

Why?

Wait... Did he just ask Danny out on a date?

Bruce Wayne has just dropped out of med school and is beginning his training into becoming the person his city needs him to become. While looking into where he can he remembers how in his teen years the planet was almost destroyed but was saved by a ghost teen hero and looks into it. He digs deep to uncover what happened, uncovering impressive firewalls Amity Park has, etc and finds out about Danny Fenton/Phantom.

He decides to go visit the younger man, who is just about to start college himself, and ask a few questions.

He uhhh... Bruce just wasn't expecting to find Danny very cute (even though he was pretty certain Phantom had been his first male crush when he saw a photo of the teen years ago), and adorable with his owlish stare, and well the first words out of his mouth was

"Would you mind joining me for dinner?"

We like to say how it's okay to say "no" and it really is. It is so okay to say "no" and I really like the helpful reminder.

I just want to say though that sometimes, we've weighed the consequences and decided that saying "yes" when we don't want to is better for us for whatever reason. And I just want you to know that it doesn't mean you're a failure. It doesn't mean you're weak. It doesn't mean you aren't allowed to be bothered by doing what you're saying "yes" to.

Sometimes it isn't safe for us to say "no". Sometimes there might be consequences that have to do with our job, living situation or any other number of negative things.

While you have the right to say "no", it's okay if you've decided that it isn't what best for you for you in a situation.

And unrelated: how do you draw folds on clothes so WELL? It’s one of my biggest struggles and I rlly love how characters’ clothes look in your style!

Hii! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what do you mean EarthMix are probably dating? I try to keep up with all the basics of the QL rumor mill, but most of it still passes right by me, so I spend a lot of time in a confused state, honestly. I thought EarthMix were roughly on the same level as a lot of other GMMTV pairs, which is to say: fanservice-y, but probably not a thing. So would you maybe mind explaining that one a little more? 👀🙏

I woke up to three separate asks about this and it was a very sobering realization that while I thought we were all just pretending not to know EarthMix are dating, apparently that was just me??? I don’t actually follow them all that closely though, so someone else feel free to jump in with the actual evidence because I know y’all have it.

Here’s the thing about EarthMix: they were 100% dating prior to their divorce era. There’s plenty of evidence that they were living together (my favorite is here) and the way they each reacted to their “break-up” was not…platonic. Mix was posting moody poems about lost loves on his Instagram for god’s sake.

I waffle about whether they’re back together now but to me, it comes down to proximity. They try to be coy about it, but Mix posts way too many videos of Earth’s cats after midnight to not be living with him. And when actors live together, I’m inclined to believe they’re dating because no one’s going to do that for fanservice.

We know that Khaotung gifted Earth and Mix a copy of Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis—a letter he wrote to his lover from prison while he was jailed for homosexual acts—and we also know that P’Aof, a queer director, favors them. P’Jojo has talked openly on his Twitter about how, if given the choice, he will always cast queer actors because he knows how hard it is to be queer in the BL industry. I would imagine that most queer directors feel the same.

We’ve been talking a lot on my blog about how GMMTV seems to discourage any verbal acknowledgement of queerness, so whereas the other two couples I mentioned—MosBank and DaouOffroad—have been as explicit as they can about the nature of their relationship, I don’t have any evidence of that nature about EarthMix. But like I said, I don’t follow them all that closely. EarthMix stans have my full permission to hijack this post and educate me because this is not my area of expertise and the thin line between “fanservice” and “actually dating” is one of my favorite topics of discussion.
