so this is the legitimately sad thing people are feeling the need to pursue him now because he feels the most high-impact/relevant/canonical. i think it’s an absolute travesty they insisted on his romance being gender locked… all to dodge the depraved bisexual trope (uh ok) and i frankly think that will play a part in my judgement of him 5ever.

for an ancient figure that’s so sworn to the idea of freedom and undoing literal physical partitioning, and has a pathological insistence on not enforcing social concepts on spirits. How are you confined to gender. be so serious.

I get the lineage locked thing but you can’t tell me it wouldn’t have been very, if not more, interesting seeing solas fall in love with an adaar or cadash. like can we give the guy a challenge lol.

not to mention that’s a white man im seeing on the screen and that tends to um. break my immersion, shall we say. when he’s talking about freeing his people. i get developmentally why they probably decided on that (hence the concept art) because at the end of the day players will speak viciously about the character, and it would not have sat right with me either to see a brown man be so villainised by the player base fresh at the end of dai. but you cannot take these people seriously, there will always be people like this. and we’re seeing now with veilgurd that they always intended to take a more nuanced approach to him, and i can’t help but feel the lost potential of a highly consequential bisexual character (of color) that will never be. or rather was never really an idea worth coming into fruition.

they chose to play it safe with him. and you can… tell? kind of like how they’ve played it safe with the in-game homophobia and misogyny. i cant quite articulate it…

i mean it when i say i do like him. when they said he sees himself in rook- i actually think that’s even more interesting to me than the inquisitor/solas relationship !

pleaseeee don’t force yourself to tailor your playthrough for what feels ‘relevant’. you’re going to end up coming to terms with a lot of unfairness. my heart goes out to zevmancers lol.
