I haven't seen anyone talk about this, and I don't have all that much to say about it, but I just wanted to point out that even in Viktor's idealized "perfect" form, his back and leg braces are still part of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He cannot conceptualize a version of himself without the things that he believes make him broken, even when he so desperately wants to be rid of them. They are part of him no matter how much he tries to deny it.
They made him who he is, as Jayce says.

Mmhmm. My inner descriptivist wants to talk about meanings changing but also sometimes misunderstandings are incoherent.
Because yeah people use 'male gaze' to mean lust or attraction. We already have a term for that, and instead using 'male gaze' is adding so much unnecessary moralistic and gender essentialist baggage.
Lust is not evil, its normal, without it there would be no people and a lot less pleasure and joy and connection. At the same time, expressing lust where it is unwelcome is very socially tabboo and for good reason. Expressing. Not experiencing. Experiencing is always fine. Expressing is not always fine.
And ofc its not gendered, has nothing to do with gender, and is not only aimed at a particular gender or sex. Its a normal experience. It does not change your gender and does not make you a bad person.
Male gaze is film theory, its about the camera and what it focuses on, what angles it employs at what distance. How it tends to present men as agents of action, and women as sexual decoration. Which can actually imo be separate from lust. Someone can use the techniques because theyre copying what theyve seen without even being horny about it. A woman can shoot something with the male gaze. Its about the filmmaking and the perceptions and characterisation and framing that it creates.
A guy looking at someone a particular way isnt Male Gaze, its lust. If its unwelcome you might call it creepy or uncomfortable or dangerous. If it is welcome you might call it hot. The same applies whoever is doing the expressing and whoever is being expressed to. The point isnt Evil Gender, or Evil Lust, the point is be respectful of others, and remember they are humans who are also sexy, rather than sex objects who happen to be human. If your in a socially acceptable situation to express attraction, go ahead respectfully and if it is reciprocated and everyone consents, have fun! If its not socially acceptable, like at someones workplace or somewhere they cannot leave, do not engage. If the person declines in any way or otherwise doesnt enthusiastically consent, back off and leave them alone. Thats it. Whoever you are and whoever they are.
The idea that lesbians can engage in the "male gaze" is so stupid and we need young lesbians to understand that their desires can't be "male gaze fetishitic" because they are lesbians. You're experiencing lesbian desire. That's by definition not "male gaze fetishitic"
But also. How did film theory concepts get distorted so badly that people think that the "male gaze" is a thing that people can people "do". A man lusting for a woman is also not "male gaze" because that's not what male gaze means.
Why are people using film theory concepts to describe emotions and human experiences. help.

SVSSS fic where Shang Qinghua transmigrates into Luo Binghe, and suffers through all the things he put his precious protagonist through since infancy. After his (Luo Binghe's) adoptive mother's death, the system forces him to go to Cang Qiong AND get into Qing Jing Peak so he's scared out of his mind but also determined to somehow, somehow escape the abuse. He's going to be the best disciple! If you tell him to chop wood he'll only ask how much! He'll clean and cook and won't make a peep! He'll even thank his shizun and bullies for the beatings! (Inwardly though, he can't help but think: bully me, and your Daddy will pay it back tenfold in the future, just you watch!)
He entertains himself in his journey to the mountain with such fantasies, and then he meets Shen Qingqiu and he's a literal. angel. Sure, he's probably making all kinds of condescending faces behind his fan when Shang Qinghua is being particularly obtuse, but he praises Shang Qinghua, pats Shang Qinghua's head, protects him when he can! System, what is going on? Is Shang Qinghua's charm just so irresistible that he managed to melt the villain's frosty heart so easily?
Years pass, and Shang Qinghua is really living the life! He quickly becomes a head disciple and moves into his shizun's residence. Everything is going very nicely, until he wakes up one morning feeling the most terrible growing pains and overall shitty in his body (since when did the protagonist have pimples??) and curses out loud, "Fuck my life, who the fuck wants to go through puberty a second time, ah?!" and behind him, a book clatters to the ground. He meets his shizun's wide, wide eyes.
"Who are you?!"

The Kingdom is Coming to Ruin, But This is a Story About You.
The Kingdom is coming to ruin. But this isn’t a story about that.
You will need:
- A tarot deck
- GM with at least a cursory knowledge of tarot or a guidebook
- 2+ players
Divide the deck so that the GM has the major arcana and shuffle and deal 5 minor arcana to each player.
To begin the game, the GM says, “The Kingdom is coming to ruin. But this is a story about...” and draws to finish the sentence. The GM describes the setting, and then players describe who they are and what they want as the kingdom crumbles around them.
Each round, the GM draws a card to represent what happens next. Players can take free actions (looking around, talking, etc.) but play a card to take a Meaningful Action.
Wands = magic, pentacles = money, swords = force, cups = reason.
The numbers represent the degree (eg. the king of cups might be a beautifully rhetorical speech. The seven of swords might be a hard shove).
Each round, the GM decides which play wins in that situation. That player gets the round card. Players draw.
The game ends when one player has 5 round cards. They win, standing alone in the ruins.
ok to archive offsite!
i’m not the biggest rpg expert but i think these are super cool so i decided to take a stab at it! tarot based rpgs have been done before but idk anything about them so i hope this turned out okay. it’s more of a storytelling tool than anything but i tried to make it more game like than say those story dice or something like that.
200 words exactly without title (according to google docs). not playtested but give me a shout if you do :)
200 Word RPGs 2024
Each November, some people try to write a novel. Others would prefer to do as little writing as possible. For those who wish to challenge their ability to not write, we offer this alternative: producing a complete, playable roleplaying game in two hundred words or fewer.
This is the submission thread for the 2024 event, running from November 1st, 2024 through November 30th, 2024. Submission guidelines can be found in this blog's pinned post, here.

I don’t know about anyone else but I find it frustrating that the writers keep telling us about scenes that got cut. Specifically referring the two Ekko and Jinx scenes, the extended version of him talking her down and the painting on each other.
Like those are important scenes that should have been there for both characters but they’re just going to tease it. Other characters and dynamics needed more scenes too (CaitVi) but they’re just baiting us with what we could have gotten.
This has been a thing for timebomb for a while too with Amanda hinting at the falling out scene between them after S1 Act l only to discuss it on the special features.
At least season 1 has the benefit of being concise but telling us that important scenes exist, we just don’t get to see them is wild.
