bad boys do it better
rated: teen | @steddieholidaydrabbles prompt: modern au tags: dating apps, innuendo, bad flirting read on ao3
✿
Eddie finally opens Tinder after downloading it in a fit of desperation.
He's tried everything but these stupid apps—bars and clubs and pottery classes and rock climbing—trying to find someone he can connect with.
But he's mostly found guys that string him along with whispered sweet nothings and half-promises they don't intend to follow through on.
So he makes his profile and then promptly fumbles and drops his phone because— no fucking way.
There's no way this is real life.
There's no fucking way the first guy to pop up is Steve fucking Harrington, his unfortunate and longest lasting crush in high school.
He picks up his phone and sees Steve's face staring back at him, unassuming, a bright, cheery smile on his face.
Steve, 28 2 miles away "Hope you like bad boys because I have it on dvd and vhs" Interests: baseball, basketball, live music, movies
He taps to get to the next photo and lets out a shaky breath—the shorts of what can only be his Halloween costume are so short, exposing hairy thighs that Eddie wants to sink his teeth into.
The next photo is a snapchat picture of him grinning wide, cradling what might be the world's ugliest dog, the text across the screen reading my nephew is so handsome 🤩🤩🤩.
The last is an obligatory shirtless mirror pic, not showing off washboard abs, but the soft, toned skin of his stomach.
He closes the app, sets his phone down, and breathes through his nose.
This can't be real, right? In what world would Steve be the first person in a sea of profiles in San Francisco of all places?
Eddie expected him to chase after Nancy Wheeler when she went to Boston, but he didn't stick around long enough in Hawkins to find out if they ever rekindled their will-they-won't-they relationship.
Maybe he's just visiting. Maybe he found his match and just forgot to delete Tinder. Because there's just no way Eddie has this kind of luck.
He opens up Instagram and searches for Steve and finds him right away because they're probably still Facebook friends.
He scrolls through his profile and deflates a little, because all of the pictures on Tinder are from his Instagram. Which means it's probably much more likely that someone is catfishing using Steve's pictures.
Because the Steve from high school wasn't into men. And he's hot enough for someone to use his pictures to scam people or whatever.
He opens up Tinder again and his thumb is swiping right before he thinks about what he's doing.
It's a match!
Okay, now he knows it's a catfish. Or maybe it's a bot.
There's no world in which Steve Harrington would swipe right on him in the twenty minutes it's been since he created his account.
He types a message to "Steve" saying so are you a bot or just a catfish?
He doesn't get a response right away, so he clicks out of the messages, looking at profiles of what are hopefully actual people he can connect with.
His phone buzzes when the message from Steve comes in.
Hi3 Eddiems, cl!ck th3 linkin my proffile to . achat I am waitin9
He rolls his eyes and goes back to perusing profiles. It's not like he thought it was really Ste-
His phone pings with another message and he clicks back into the chat immediately.
That was a joke. There's not even a link in my profile
Eddie's heart beats a little faster, his fingers typing out a response.
So a catfish then?
Why do you think I'm a catfish?????
Because I know the guy in those pictures and there's no way hes into men. That guy was a jock extraordinaire in high school and very straight
You're awfully judgey for someone who was so anti-conformity in high school. Whos to say I haven't changed?
Or like, learned new things about myself?
Eddie's breath stutters in his throat.
Also you didn't really know me since we never talked.
Okay, I mean. It's pretty easy to guess that I was counterculture in high school by looking at me. So I'm still on the fence about the catfish thing
How about we meet up then? So you can see me in all my nearing-30 glory
And watch bad boys on dvd and vhs with you?
Dude, I am not inviting you to my house on the first date
That's a third date kind of thing
Oh yeah? Is it a back-to-back feature? We start with the vhs then move to dvd?
He can't believe he's entertaining this. A catfish wouldn't offer to meet up unless they thought Eddie wouldn't call their bluff. He kind of wants to see where this is going.
No see, we start with the dvd playing in the living room and then when we inevitably start being bad boys🥵 in the middle of the movie, we can pick it back up on vhs in my room later
To be clear, we stop the movie, right? I'm not sure bad boys has a soundtrack meant for the kind of activities we'd be doing
Oh for sure. I'd even put on my "let's get it on" playlist. As a treat.
Eddie can't help but grin. Even if this guy is a catfish, this is maybe the most fun he's had talking to someone in a long time.
Are you serious about meeting up?
Uh yeah, I can't have you thinking I'm a catfish forever
What's your favorite brewery?
Cellarmaker
Wanna do tomorrow afternoon at like 2 when it's not busy?
That sounds perfect
He isn't sure if it's really Steve or if he's going to be met with someone else or stood up, but at least he'll get to drown his sorrows if it doesn't work out.
Well—he's unsure until he gets the 'stharrington started following you' notification on Instagram a few minutes later.
He screams into his pillow so loud his neighbor thumps on the wall.

BET ON IT — ahn yujin x f!reader
stereotypical jock ahn yujin is given a bet by her friends; take you, one of the smartest students in school, on a date. too bad you’re aware of the bet.
TAGS — literally all fluff, jock!yujin, yuj gets rejected a lot, popular x kinda nerd trope, ice hockey players r so fine, cursing
WORDCOUNT — 4.3k
when you first stepped into your new class, the tall brunette girl sitting at the back had caught your eye. she was wearing a varsity jacket and on her face adorned a boyish grin.
your cheeks had heated up when she sent a glance your way, and that’s when you realised, you had just found your newest object of infatuation. ahn yujin was just another hallway crush, blending into the crowd of high schoolers and standing out when she passed by your locker. she was eye candy for you and whenever you would see her, your day got significantly better.
once you were more settled in the school, you found out that yujin was unobtainable. way out of your league. a typical jock with a scholarship to an ivy league school. one that cared for neither studies nor academics. her only passion? playing ice hockey and with people’s hearts.
you had realised the latter when passing by a toilet cubicle. the sobs inside were too emotional and excruciating to ignore. despite your best efforts, your fist ended up knocking on the door and you had asked, “are you okay in there?”
inside of the cubicle was a girl, sobbing her eyes out. apparently, ahn yujin had promised to take her out on a date and even invited her back to her house but ended up ditching her. you had frowned, you could never have imagined the puppy-like girl you saw on the first day doing such a thing.
your infatuation for her slowly disappeared as you heard more and more stories of the atrocious things she would do to people. stomping on flowers, laughing at confessions and spreading rumours about people. ahn yujin was an asshole and a jerk. unfortunately she was an attractive one.
“y/n,” jiwon whispers, “is the answer x equals to negative five?”
you look up from your worksheet, for which you had doodled ahn yujin’s familiar smirk and quickly covered it.
“no. my answer is positive five. i think you made a mistake in the quadratic formula,” you explain, taking a peek at jiwon’s working. jiwon frowns and a shadow appears next to your desk.
the shadow actually startles you slightly. since the end of year examinations were nearing, lessons meant for teaching content were swapped to self-study sessions. normally, not a single person would move around, in fear of jeopardising their grades to fool around with friends.
thus, you were extremely confused as to why ahn yujin stood next to your table, eyes crinkling in a smile.
“hi,” she says, “i wanted to ask, how did you get a positive five for your answer?”
you can only stare at her in shock. due to her scholarship being on the line, you had thought yujin would have the top students tutoring her, as she had to keep an average of 70% for every semester.
so why was she talking to you now? wasn’t jang wonyoung a better option to ask?
“uhm, i think you forgot to…” you stare at her worksheet, “times 2 to the denominator.”
yujin’s eyes widen and you can’t lie that it’s adorable. jiwon shifts next to you nervously and you place a hand over hers, comforting her nerves.
“thanks! i owe you one!”
“oh… there’s no need…”
before you can even complete your sentence, she bounces back to her seat and smiles brightly at you. a quick whip of your head faces you with jiwon.
“did ahn yujin just talk to you?” she mumbles.
you rub the back of your neck, “i guess she did.”
for the first time in three years, you felt your feelings of infatuation resurface. ahn yujin, the girl at the top of your school’s social pyramid, just talked to you? and looked adorable while doing it?
and what does she mean by ‘she owes you’?
you just hoped it wouldn’t interfere with your studies. yujin was an enigma, one that would need countless hours of observation and detailed assessments to figure out her true colours. was her playboy act all a facade? or was this nice and cute classmate that you had actually just another one of her acting personalities to get what she wanted?
there were so many questions in your head that you didn’t even notice the bell ringing.
jiwon pulls you up and links your arms together, flashing a smile which snaps you out of your daydream.
“let’s go meet rei,” she says. you nod in agreement and let yourself be pulled all the way to the cafeteria. only at the table, you realise that you had left your phone back in the classroom.
rei had soon joined the table and you stood up abruptly.
“i left my phone in class, i’ll be back soon!” you inform your friends who wave you off. a quick few steps and you had arrived back at the classroom. notably, it was empty as students had all crammed to the cafeteria for a quick break before going back into revision.
except for the trio that sat at the back.
you raise your eyebrows and instantly recognise the smirk and brown hair of ahn yujin. she had kim gaeul and jang wonyoung sitting beside her, both of which had questioning looks on their face.
without much thought, you were planning to just walk in and take your phone swiftly. yet, the mutter of your name had made you pause in your steps.
“what was that with y/n during class?” wonyoung asks, head tilting in curiosity.
“what was what?”
gaeul scoffs, “you definitely knew how to do that question.”
“hm, did i? didn’t i look more like a stupid jock just needing assistance from one of the top scorers?” yujin laughs.
“you literally have me, the actual top scorer. y/n isn’t so stupid to buy your whole act. she’s actually a challenge,” wonyoung says. despite them discussing your intelligence in the open, you felt pride simmer at wonyoung thinking you were too smart to fall for yujin’s tricks.
“watch me.”
“okay… if she agrees on a date by the end of this month,” gaeul picks at her fingernails, “lunch is on me for the rest of the year.”
yujin chuckles, “it’ll be too easy.”
“and don’t fall for her,” wonyoung adds.
“still easy. this will be the easiest bet of my life.”
you hear the chair scraping against the floor afterwards. still debating on whether to retrieve your phone, you decide to ponder on what the bet entailed for you.
so one, yujin was definitely still a jerk. two, you would have to agree to a date by the end of the month for her to win. and three, she had no idea that you knew of this secret agreement.
huh.
you smile, finally having the upper hand over yujin for once. maybe this bet would teach yujin a lesson and help you live out your young fantasies.
“y/n!” you almost instinctively start to walk faster at the sound of yujin’s voice. all eyes turned to look at you and jiwon’s grip on your wrist tightened.
“good morning,” you nod. in one hand, a chocolate milk carton and in the other, a chemistry textbook.
yujin smiles sheepishly at you, “i was wondering… were you free this afternoon to tutor me in chemistry? i heard you were the top student of our year—”
“i’m not. wonyoung is,” you reply firmly. yujin falters for a second before bouncing back, “she isn’t free today since she has student council duties. i already tried asking her!”
if you didn’t know about the bet, you genuinely would have believed her convincing act.
“ah, well, i’m not free today.”
“oh? why?”
you gesture to jiwon, “going on a date!”
at that point, you hadn’t realised the impact of your words. those four words changed the trajectory of your life.
“d-date?!” yujin gapes.
you thought she looked like a fish. meanwhile, jiwon was desperately trying to drag you away from the crowd that was forming to witness ahn yujin being rejected.
“yup. so i can’t help you,” you say and wave goodbye to yujin, who stays rooted to the ground, almost jaw-dropped. truly, this was amusing. her reaction was terribly funny, considering that she had never once in her life been rejected before. and for you to be the one to do so? amazing.
yet, jiwon didn’t find it funny and began cursing you for ruining her school year. once word got out that her best friend was the one who rejected yujin, she would not be able to live a peaceful life.
this cycle of rejection only continued despite jiwon’s attempts to hide you from yujin. the requests ranged from, “can you help me with calculus?” to, “there was a new tteokbokki store that opened near school, wanna go together?”
you soon realised that yujin was determined to win this bet. with the countless amount of sweet post-it notes taped to chocolate milk cartons that appeared on your desk every morning… how could you not?
yujin had willpower, you acknowledged that fact. it was just a shame that you had overheard the conversation. maybe she would have actually won the bet by now.
while you were gloating about yujin’s loss, the jock was almost heartbroken with the number of futile attempts.
“she just isn’t falling for it!” yujin exclaims.
wonyoung raises an eyebrow, “i told you she isn’t that stupid. and your methods are so lame.”
“i thought they were cute,” yujin sniffles, pouting. the mere thought of her not being able to persuade a girl was devastating. this would mess up her reputation! she wasn’t the one who chased others!
“you’re not winning this bet,” gaeul states, snickering at yujin’s misfortune.
yujin, despite their claims, was still persistent in trying to get a date. it didn’t matter what she needed to do, she would do it. anything to win this bet.
she couldn’t lose her hard-built reputation as a heartbreaker. that was crazy. if she had to get down on her knees to beg…
well yujin might just consider it.
unbeknownst to the things yujin would do for a date with you, you walk with jiwon peacefully, almost reaching the front gate when your best friend halts.
“ah,” jiwon says out of the blue, “I can’t go home with you today. i need to show the new exchange students around school.” you frown but nodded anyway.
“i’ll see you tomorrow then?” you ask. jiwon sends a smile and quickly walks back to the school doors. you sigh, taking out your airpods when a tap on your shoulder spins you around.
ahn yujin again.
“hi,” she flashes a grin, “mind if i walk with you?”
“don’t you normally go that way?” you point in the opposite direction. yujin turns her head and laughs, “so you’ve been observing me?”
you think for a moment. “no, but your fanclub is waiting there for you.”
like you said, a group of girls and boys alike were standing at the other gate, eyes darting around for yujin. she tilts her head, reminiscent of your puppy back at home, and says, “i’m walking this way so i don’t get bombarded by them.”
“fair enough,” you take out your airpods again and try to drown out yujin’s attempts at conversation.
“hey!” she continuously taps you on the shoulder. you ignore her.
“don’t ignore me!” you do that.
“y/n-ssi..!”
ugh. you think. who the hell said that yujin was like a puppy? (you.) she was more like a parrot that couldn’t shut up.
“yujin-ssi,” you huff, “keep quiet.”
said girl just turns to you with a pout. eyes glistening with hope when you falter ever so slightly. with a sigh, you take out your airpods and raise an eyebrow.
“okay, i won’t ignore you anymore.”
“great! i was wondering,” yujin pauses, a hint of hesitation in her voice that you’ve never heard before, “do you wanna grab lunch together? wonyoung heard from jiwon that you liked the cafe nearby, i’ll pay.”
your voice wavers, “uh, sure.” no one could blame you; your favourite cafe paired with a free meal? anyone would have accepted (regardless of the puppy-like girl who shrieked in excitement).
“great!” yujin discreetly grabs your wrist, pulling you to walk faster. slightly taken aback, you willingly let yourself be pulled away.
on the way there, the typically chirpy yujin doesn’t say a word and instead keeps quiet. it’s only until you both find a seat in the cafe that she speaks up.
“y/n-ssi, do you hate me or something?” you watch as the jock twirls the fork in her hand, eyes gleaming with curiosity. perhaps she’s never experienced being rejected before.
“you’re just too much for me.”
“oh? what do you mean by that?”
you choose your next words wisely, “it’s a bit strange to have someone popular talk to someone so mediocre.”
yujin’s head snaps up, fury in her eyes. you think she’s about to storm out, offended by your words. yet, she grasps your hands into hers, passionately saying, “how could you be mediocre?! y/n-ssi, you’re like the most intelligent person in our grade, and you’re super nice and helpful too!”
you feel relieved. her outburst was just defending you. giggles escape your lips as you reply back, “nice and helpful? after rejecting you so often?”
the sight of yujin’s cheeks being flushed makes you marvel. it’s a rare sight to see the jock so flustered. she’s usually so composed and witty.
“ah… i was a bit insistent and annoying, i understand why y/n-ssi avoided me…” yujin mumbles shyly, letting your hands drop onto the table. your hands feel cold without yujin’s warmth but you quickly diminish that thought.
stop it, yujin is just playing with you.
you straighten up naturally, catching yourself before replying with anything flirty. you had to remember that yujin’s primary reason for talking to you was because of the bet.
unfortunately for you, yujin notices your change in demeanour.
“are you okay?”
“yeah,” you eye her carefully, “i’m just hungry.”
yujin sends you a toothy grin and starts another conversation. you end up talking about her puppy, azzo, her ice hockey training and your art portfolio before the food arrives. you realise even though ahn yujin was a stereotypical jock, she was probably smarter than most.
“y/n-ssi, can i call you unnie?”
you raise your eyebrow, “how do you know my birthday?”
yujin looks startled. frazzled, she quickly replies, “i just asked wonyoung… she’s close friends with jiwon…!”
“doing background checks on me?” you say, stuffing your mouth with the red velvet cake in front of you.
“no… maybe, yes? i was just curious!”
“you just want to talk informally, don’t you, yujin?”
the jock bows her head down, you hate how you find it cute.
“yeah… you caught me.”
you smile, “okay, you can call me unnie.”
it’s like yujin just won the lottery with the way she’s grinning. you would tease her even more but it’s better not to get attached to her.
after this month, she wouldn’t even bat an eye at you.
soon, you finish up your cake and yujin does too. when paying, you sense yujin’s impatience and chalk it off to being her realising that you wouldn’t wield so easily. shrugging it off, you try your best to make a quick exit before yujin drags you to somewhere else again.
after paying, you swiftly leave the cafe, only to be caught in yujin’s grasp again.
“unnie, can we exchange contact info?” her eyes are shining now. you hesitantly nod and hand her your phone.
yujin 🐶 [4.38pm]:
yn unnie! ^^
“there! i sent you a message,” yujin exclaims, “where’s your house? i’ll walk you home!”
“huh?! no… yujin, you should go home, i can walk by myself…”
the puppy-like girl only pouts. you’re mostly helpless to her, unable to really say no to a face like hers.
“unnie, i need to know if you reached home safely! bad guys would obviously kidnap a girl as pretty as you!” yujin scoffs. you try to hide your blush as you finally nod again.
yujin brightens up and takes your hand into hers, “let’s go!”
you feel bad for the younger girl; she was usually the one who played with other people’s feelings and now, she didn’t even realise that she’s the one getting played with. you wonder if yujin has ever seen the aftermath of her entertainment. would she be shocked that she caused someone so much pain? or would she just laugh?
the closer you got to your doorstep, the more you didn’t want to leave yujin. fuck, you think, that’s a bad sign.
how did yujin manage to attract you in only a day?
what the hell type of sorcery was she using?
“thank you for walking me home,” you bow, “send me a text when you get home too.” yujin nods but she stares at you expectantly. maybe she wanted you to invite her into your house?
that wasn’t going to happen though.
“uhm,” you mumble unintelligently. not even giving it a second thought, you quickly plant a kiss on yujin’s cheek and run into your house, slamming the door behind you.
what the fuck! you and yujin both think, your hand covering your mouth, shocked that you even did that. meanwhile, yujin traces the outline of your lips on her cheek with her fingertips, her face resembling a tomato the longer she stands outside your door.
yujin 🐶 [5.02pm]:
unnie…? ㅠㅠ
yn unnie 🤍 [5.03pm]:
IM SINSORYR
I DID IT WITHOUT THINKJNG
yujin 🐶 [5.03pm]:
ure too mean…
kissing me then slamming the door
yn unnie 🤍 [5.03pm]:
im sorry yuj
yujin 🐶 [5.04pm]:
ur lips r so soft tho?
do u use the laniege lip mask? ㅋㅋ
yn unnie 🤍 [5.04pm]:
what are u saying…
go home…
yujin 🐶 [5.04pm]:
yes ma’am!
( ̄^ ̄)ゞ
ah fuck, you flop onto the couch, cheeks aflame, ahn yujin, i think you’re winning that bet.
it’s an early morning, gaeul hums happily, bathing in the sunlight. sometimes she’s glad that she has the window seat, when the sun rises and sets, she gets to watch it all. other times she’s not so grateful. like when it rains heavily and the raindrops splash at her.
life is great—
“yah, kim gaeul.”
the girl opens her eyes, facing an irritating sight; an ashamed ahn yujin. she only looked like that when her suitors yell at her, or when her mother nags her for her grades.
having known yujin for years, it was probably the former.
“which girl was it now?” gaeul huffs.
“y/n unnie.”
gaeul almost falls off her chair, did yujin win the bet? already worrying about her pocket money for the year, gaeul ignores everything yujin says, not until she hears, “i want to call the bet off.”
“what?!” she shrieks, “she didn’t agree to a date?”
yujin shakes her head, deflated but not for the reasons you’d imagine.
“i didn’t ask her on one,” she explains, “because… it didn’t feel right to do something so reckless.”
gaeul widens her eyes, naturally gesturing for yujin to continue. how could something like asking a girl on a date scare yujin? it was second nature to her at this point!
“asking y/n unnie on a date…” yujin’s gaze feels dreamy now and gaeul thinks she’s staring at a different person, “ah… it feels wrong to do it now..?”
“why? you wanted to win the bet though?”
yujin’s gaze hardens, “the bet isn’t as important as her.”
“y-yujin?! you’re saying that…”
“gaeul unnie, i like y/n.”
there’s no need to further explain. ahn yujin, the typical high school jock, falling for a girl that she only talked to for her own entertainment. how did she even manage to fall for you? yujin doesn’t know it herself. maybe it was after that day at the cafe, when you actually showed interest in her life. maybe it was the many online conversations you had with her, talking about mundane things. maybe it was the first day you locked eyes, yujin subconsciously always kept an eye on you afterwards.
or maybe it was all of that combined.
you tap your feet nervously on the bench. after you had kissed yujin’s cheek, she always brought it up, genuinely asking why your lips were so soft or even boldly declaring that she wanted another. maybe because it was rare for you to be so affectionate. even with jiwon and rei, skinship wasn’t so common. honestly, you weren’t sure what you were even doing with yujin. after many midnight conversations, you would consider you two friends. or perhaps even close friends.
yujin had forced you to wait for her to finish practice so she could walk you home. it was almost a routine at that point. there was some speculation of you two dating and you could imagine how happy that made yujin feel. yet mysteriously, yujin hadn’t made any super flirtatious advancements on you. the month was ending soon and the bet would end in her loss. so why wasn’t she doing anything? (not that you wanted her to do anything).
“y/n,” you turn your head. why on earth was kim gaeul and jang wonyoung staring at you from behind?
“yes…?”
the two girls glance at each other and rush up to you. you were currently standing outside yujin’s ice rink, watching her play hockey with her teammates. sometimes while playing a game, she would score and send you a wink. even through the helmet, you could see her mouth, ‘this is for you!’ it was embarrassing and cheesy but you still ended up flustered, covering your red face with your hair.
“we have something we need to tell you,” wonyoung starts off.
gaeul nods earnestly, “we’re very sorry but…”
you realise where this is going.
“ah, is this about the bet you guys and yujin made about me?”
wonyoung and gaeul both have their mouths agape, eyebrows furrowed. you almost laugh at their reaction.
“h-how did you know?!”
“i overheard you guys that day, i was going to get my phone but then i heard my name. sorry for eavesdropping.”
“no! we should be sorry for making that bet! but, if you already knew about it, why are you still hanging out with yujin?” wonyoung asks.
you chuckle, “i just wanted to see what she was planning to do. it was plain curiosity.”
“ah! but yujin likes you!” gaeul blurts out.
huh…?
“what?!”
“yeah! she told me a few days ago, that’s why she called the bet off,” the girl says. wonyoung groans, muttering about how gaeul shouldn’t have revealed that.
you absentmindedly say, “i like her too…”
the subject of your conversation immediately butts in, “you like who?”
you instantly clamp your mouth shut, heartbeat in your ears as you turn to face yujin. luckily you weren’t so out of it yet, if you were, you wouldn’t be able to control blurting out how handsome yujin looked in her gear. even brushing the ice off her jersey looked attractive to you.
“gaeul unnie, isn’t it time for us to leave?” wonyoung briskly drags gaeul out of the ice rink, leaving just you and yujin inside.
“aren’t you going to change?” you ask, facing a different direction from the jock before she manages to fluster you.
“i saw my two idiot friends talking to you, so i came here first,” she says, plopping down on the bench too.
“what were you guys even talking about?”
“oh… we were, uhm,” you stare at your lap, on top, your fingers playing with each other.
yujin senses you hesitate and places a hand on top of yours, holding it tightly.
“talking about… the bet you made about me,” you gulp, anticipating a huge, overblown reaction. you close your eyes but you don’t hear anything from yujin.
the silence begins to become worrying and you open your eyes, only to see yujin barely breathing, her eyes blown open and a pale face.
“unnie, i’m so sorr—”
“i’m not mad!” you quickly say, “i sort of had a crush on you on the first day of school, so having you interested in me, regardless of the bet, i mean, it made me feel good.”
“you had a crush on me?” yujin questions.
“yeah? like a hallway crush.”
“you’re seriously not mad about the bet?”
you shrug, “i was at first. but then your friends told me something.”
the girl’s body becomes stiff, more stiff than when you told her about your knowledge of the bet.
“they told me you like me, that’s what we were talking about before you came over,” you turn to her, “yujin-ah, is it true?”
yujin nods shyly.
“they’re so annoying… i wanted to have this cool confession but, ugh, unnie, i really wasn’t expecting myself to like you. is it crazy to say i’m happy that i made that bet? because it let me become closer to you?”
“yujin, before i accept your confession…” her eyes light up again, “can you tell me why you treated all those girls like that?”
“you mean…”
“you played with their hearts, how can i be sure that you won’t play with mine?” you ask.
yujin sighs, “honestly, i don’t know either but unnie, i need you to trust me that i like you a lot. i like you so much that i don’t know how to live through a day without thinking about you. everytime i experience something, i want to share it with you. please let me show my love for you.”
love… you smile, gently removing yujin’s helmet.
“you’re already thinking about love?”
yujin’s hair is unkempt, her bangs are swept messily, blocking her eyes slightly. yet, you can still see the whole galaxy in her eyes.
reaching out for her jaw, you pull her closer.
“ahn yujin, if you ever play with me, you’re dead.”
your lips are almost touching and you can feel her breath. almost panting already, yujin breathes out.
“there’s no point living if you’re not by my side.”

The Harrington Pattern Part 1
Hey, guys! Sorry I'm late uploading today, but I went to bed early last night and forgot to schedule this.
Oops!
But! Welcome to what I've been calling Steve is a History Nerd agenda. We see in season two on Steve's essay for colleges that he can link his grandfather's military service with his prowess on the basketball court.
It is also surprisingly well written. *shakes fist at the Duffers stop telling us he's stupid and then showing the opposite, please! Let him be smart, too!*
Summary: The Renaissance Fair is finally back in Hawkins after three year absence (Starcourt was built on the fair site and after the fire it was bulldozed back to it's original field). Everyone is excited, even Steve to everyone's amazement. But Steve is hiding other hidden depths as he offers to help the kids make their costumes for the Fair.
Lucas is struggling with being both a nerd and a jock and fears the judgment of his friends. Steve sets out to help him overcome those doubts to be himself.

Nobody expects Steve to be excited for the Renaissance fair. Dustin, Will and Lucas spend hours plotting bribes, schemes and out and out manipulations to get Steve to agree to take them. Even Robin expected him to side with her about the dust and the filth. Eddie expected him to be dismissive of the fantasy aspect of it.
Boy were they all wrong.
For it was Steve to bring up to the group after a rather successful D&D session.
In his hand was a bright pink flier and a wide grin on his face.
“Guys! The Ren Fair is back this year,” he said in lieu of a greeting. “I’ll finally be able to show off that tunic I’ve been working on.”
All heads turned to Steve in shock.
There was a cacophony of questions.
“Since when did you know how to sew?”
“What do you mean back? I didn’t even know Hawkins had one to begin with!”
“You want to go to the Ren Fair?”
“Why would you want to spend all day in the heat and dirt?”
Steve looked around at all off his friends in shock.
“Guys, I love the Ren Fair,” he muttered. “Didn’t you guys know?”
All their jaws dropped.
And Eddie? Eddie felt an icicle to the heart at the sight of Steve’s hurt expression.
“You’ll pardon the peasants, my liege,” Eddie said, bowing grandly. “I’m afraid we have all be harboring under the delusion that Ren Fairs were beneath your notice.”
Steve blinked at him a moment. “But I love that stuff. It’s the history and sword fights and jousting. It’s the like medieval Olympics. It’s the romance and chivalry of knights fighting for a fair maiden’s hand. It’s getting to dress up in fancy clothes and rip into turkey legs like a savage. What’s not to like?”
Dustin frowned. “Who here knew Steve liked history?”
Robin and Nancy raised their hands. They looked around waiting for me people to join them. But they stayed down.
Steve ducked his head and scuffed the floor with the edge of his sneaker.
“The ex-girlfriend I’ll buy,” Dustin continued. “But Robin didn’t become friends with Steve until after he graduated so how did she know?”
Robin blinked at them owlishly. “You mean you guys don’t know?”
Everyone looked around each other and then shook their heads.
“Steve was in my AP history class my junior year,” she said as if this was know fact.
“You do know that AP stands for advance placement, right?” Mike asked.
Eddie smacked the back of his head. “She was in it, dude. Don’t be an ass.”
Steve looked up at him and smiled a little.
Good, Eddie thought. Nothing like a little Mike violence to cheer up Steve.
“He wrote an essay for early placement college exams,” Nancy said. “He didn’t get a chance to turn it in because of our second go round with the Upside Down, but it was really good. It needed a little neatening up with the actual writing, but the history was solid.”
Steve blushed. “Thanks.”
Dustin looked skeptical. “What’s your favorite part of history?”
Steve opened his mouth and then closed it again. “I liked hearing about my grandpa’s time in the US army during WWII, but that was more because he made it interesting. But I really like the Industrial Revolution. Or rather the first Industrial Revolution. There have been four. The first one was from 1760-1840 and featured heavily in the textile movement.”
The room was silent.
“Why textiles, Stevie?” Eddie asked as the silence grew awkward.
Steve lit up like a child at Christmas morning and he began talking about the British textile movement.
“What the hell?” Dustin huffed, breaking into Steve monologue.
Steve ducked his head again and blushed. “Just because I’m not interested in science and fantasy doesn’t mean I’m stupid.” He straightened up. “And yeah, sometimes I get things wrong. But everyone does at some point. In fact I get a hell of a lot more flack for my intelligence than Eddie does and he repeated his senior year twice!” He took a deep breath and then ran his fingers through his hair.
“No offense,” he said waving to Eddie.
Eddie looked up at him with earnest eyes. “None taken. I concur.”
They all looked around at each other in shock. Like they hadn’t realized that they had done that.
After a few moments, Steve put his hands on his hips and pointed at all of them.
“So do you guys want to go or what?”
Eddie sat back with a smile as everyone roared their approval.
*
“No corsets,” was Robin’s only firm and fast rule for Steve when it came to dressing her up for the Ren Fair.
Steve looked her up and down. “Why on earth would I want you in a corset? Have you looked in the mirror?”
“Uh...” Robin said. “Is that a trick question? Of course I have. I don’t what that has to do with saying no to corsets though...”
Steve rolled his eyes. “In order to give you the curve you need to match the proper silhouette you would need to be cinched to hell. And as this is supposed to be fun.”
He grabbed her hand and started hauling her toward his car.
“Where are we going?”
“Thrifting!” he said with glee.
It took three different stores and a stop at the mall to get everything he needed.
“Give me three days,” he told her when he dropped her off at her house. “And I think you’ll like what I come up with.”
Robin eyed him warily. “If you say so.”
Steve laughed.
He crashed the next D&D session, showing up early to pick them up.
“What is everyone wearing to the Ren Fair?” he asked with a note pad on his lap and wagged the pen in his fingers.
“You want us to dress up?” Mike asked, eyes wide.
“Why not?” he asked with a shrug. “I’ve made my costume and currently reworking some thirfted threads for Robin’s outfit.”
Eddie blinked. “You made your costume?”
Steve shrugged again. “Yeah. I like sewing.”
There was suddenly an uproar and he held up a hand. “I can’t make you a full outfit before the Fair, but I can make over already made clothes to make them more historical. And maybe for next year I’ll have the time to make something special for everyone.”
Dustin eyed him suspiciously. “Like what?”
“Like tailoring pants to a tighter fit,” Steve explained “adding a sash or belt, turning old coats into vests and cloaks, things like that.”
They still weren’t sure how that would work out.
“Now I talked to Joyce and Claudia,” he continued. “And they’re both willing to help out in making sure everyone has something nice to wear. That includes Max and El.”
“Are the fair maidens joining us?” Eddie asked.
Steve nodded. “Yeah. Joyce is doing El and Will, Claudia is doing Dustin and Mike, and I’m doing Lucas and Max. Eddie said he already had a costume, so I didn’t have to worry about him.”
Eddie grinned. “You better believe it, pretty boy.”
Steve ducked his head and blushed. “So we’re all going thrifting with a $5 limit for each of you. But I wanted to brainstorm some ideas of what you wanted to go as so we don’t waste time wandering around.”
Everyone started shouting at once and it took Steve a good ten minutes before he got everyone calmed down enough to get what they wanted. Dustin wanted to go as a hobbit, but Steve had to nix that one.
“You don’t want to go running around the grounds barefoot,” he explained with a wince. “It’s not safe.”
“I’m going to have to agree with Stevie on this one,” Eddie said. “You guys have never been but there is all sorts of stuff laying around. It’s not indoors and the pathways are dirt lined. Think the state fair. It’s more like that then going to comic book convention.”
Dustin grumbled but conceded the point. Steve got them to decide on... well not quite peasant gear, but more rough around the edges than what Steve would be wearing.
Well, all but Lucas. He didn’t want to wear what they were wearing but he refused to say what he did want to wear.
So Steve dropped him off at home last.
They pulled into his driveway and Steve turned to him. “Do you not want to dress up? Because I won’t make you.”
Lucas picked at the loose string on his sweater. “It’s not that. I just remember the last time we did a group costume and they all thought I should be Winston because I was black like he was.”
Steve frowned for a moment. “The Ghostbusters, right?”
Lucas nodded. “I knew if I brought it up they’d shoot me down again.”
“So what did you want to go as?” he asked.
Lucas huffed out a sigh. “It doesn’t matter. It’s a stupid pipe dream anyway. Especially since you have to make Max’s dress and Robin’s costume, too.”
He opened the door to get out, but Steve reached over and slammed it closed.
“One, Robin’s costume is almost done,” he said counting out on his fingers. “Two, do you really think your girlfriend is going to want to wear a dress? And three, let me be the judge on what’s too much for me, okay?”
Lucas huffed a laugh at his second point. “Yeah, that was dumb of me.”
“So what is it?”
Lucas looked down again and heaved out a sigh. “An elf.”
Steve’s mind was whirling with the possibilities. “What colors?”
“What?” Lucas asked, not sure he heard Steve right.
“What colors would you want it to be?”
He pulled out the notebook and scrambled for a pen. Lucas pulled a pencil out of his bag and handed it to him.
“Uh I was thinking of a light blue and with a silver trim?” he said hesitantly.
Steve sketched something out. “Like this?”
Lucas leaned over to look at the drawing. “A little shorter so I’m not tripping over it and maybe those puffy pants?”
Steve adjusted the drawing and Lucas nodded.
“Yeah, like that.”
“All right,” Steve said. “I know exactly what to do and how to do it. It won’t be perfect because I don’t have time to do it right so I’ll be doing a lot of cheating. But yeah, it’s doable.”
Lucas gave him a hug. “Thanks, man.”
*
Steve called the one person he knew he could help him.
“Eddie,” he said the second the other man picked up. “I need your nerd connections to do a huge favor for Lucas.”
“Wha’cha got, big boy?” Eddie asked with a grin.
“You wouldn’t happen to know any Trekkies would you?” Steve asked chewing on his bottom lip.
“That depends, Stevie,” Eddie replied, “what’s the need?”
“Pointed ears.”
Eddie hummed. “I’m assuming you’re thinking Trekkie because of Spock and that’s a good thought. But I’m guessing since we’re going to the Ren Fair our stalwart ranger is wanting to be an elf?”
“Yeah,” Steve said. “Do you know anyone who can help?”
“Better than that,” Eddie said. “I know where to get the ears in the right... shade?”
Steve perked up. “Oh? I’m guessing Jeff?”
“Right in one, darlin’,” Eddie said with a soft smile. “I’ll give him a call and then call you back.”
“Thanks, Eds,” Steve breathed. “You’re the best.”
“Thanks, doll.”

I am so excited for this, guys. You have no idea. I'm little history nerd myself and this really fun to play around with.
Just a heads up. We WILL be addressing Mike's casual racism from the Ghostbusters scene because I don't like that it's never been addressed.

The more Melissa schemmenti fics the better . Could you please please please write one were Melissa does the leaning on the wall with the arm thing . Like the jock /cheerleader pose in the hallway . But with reader . I love that Melissa is bad girl with milf vibes .
So sorry that this took way longer than I thought it would. And I agree with you, the more Mel fics the better. I also put some inspiration from a fan art of Mel eating reader out with her glasses on and hair up and the creator asks for a fic about it and I honestly forgot their name. If you can let me know in the comment section so I can tag them in this then it would be appreciated! Not edited in the slightest and I hope you like it!
On another note: I can’t believe that season 4 starts tomorrow and there’s a new episode of Agatha All Along! #spoiled
Another note: it was @dashbag-art that made the fan art of Mel eating someone out.
What She Wants
Warnings: bad girl Mel, smut, small praise kink
Words: 2.8k
You’re walking down the hallway, collecting late book returns from students. You’re on your second year of being the school librarian and you’re loving it so far. You just collected a few books from Janine’s kids and now you’re on to Melissa’s.
“Alright my little eagles, who can tell me wh-” Melissa says and then you knock on her wide open door. Melissa looks and sees you and she instantly smiles. “Hello Y/n.” She says and you blush slightly.
“Hi Ms. Schemmenti, I need to talk to a few students in your class.” You tell her and she nods.
“By all means, who do you need?” She asks.
“Let’s see.” You say and look at your list. “Milly, Dominic and Avery.” You say and the 3 students sit up and walk out the door.
Melissa watches you for a second before she goes back to her lesson. She watched you while you did your first year here and she’s been watching you more closely since you came back and started your second year a couple months ago. You talk to the 3 students and then they return to their desks while Melissa continues the lesson. Melissa gives you a smile that you return before you go to the 3rd graders.
The next period starts and you have to go back to the library to see who is where this period and return the books that you were able to get, back to their place. About 20 minutes into the new period, you’re walking to a 4th grade classroom when someone stops you.
“Hey hon.” You see Melissa say and she traps you against the wall and she’s leaning on her arm that’s on the wall.
“Oh h-hi Melissa.” You stutter out and she smiles at you, you’re holding the couple books you have close to your chest.
“Do I make you nervous?” She says and leans in closer to you.
“A-a little bit.” You say to her and she smirks.
“And why is that?” She asks, a little cocky.
You have to admit that you didn’t think this is where the day would go. You’ve been attracted to Melissa since day 1 but never went for it from the things some other teachers have told you. They warned you to stay away from her as she doesn’t always tolerate people and knows what to do to get what she wants. They also told you that she knows several guys all around the city in various fields of work so be cautious. Now she’s close to you and asking why you’re nervous around her and you don’t know what to say.
On Melissa’s end is a bit different, she can probably guess that other teachers told you a few things about her. She found you cute since you started but she kept her distance since you were new. Now you came back for another year and she knows she wants you. She’s having fun watching you squirm a bit right now for an answer. She tucks a loose strand of hair behind your ear and you freeze.
“Why do I make you nervous hon?” She asks again and you look up and catch her eyes and you freeze again. She had beautiful green eyes that go perfect with her beautiful face and gorgeous ginger locks.
You start looking for a way out and notice that she’s trapped you pretty good as she’s gotten closer and there’s no one in the halls to help you.
“I-I…um.” You stutter and Melissa tilts her head a bit, still smiling.
“You’re adorable when you don’t know what to say. I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that the other teachers warned you about me when you started?” She asks and you nod slightly. She hums as she thinks of what to say next now that she’s got you trapped. You take a second to look at her and see that she’s wearing the leather jacket you love on her as well as a pink low cut top and see a good amount of her cleavage. Melissa of course notices you staring at her chest and smirks. “My eyes are up here hon.” She tells you as she tilts your chin up with her free hand. She sees your eyes widen as you got caught and smiles at you. “I don’t mind you looking but not at school, we have to stay professional.” She tells you as she leans into your ear. “Come to my place after school and you can look all you want.” She tells you and then pulls back. You’re looking at her like a deer in the headlights and frozen in place. “Is that ok with you hon?” She asks and you nod your head, unable to form words. Melissa tucks another loose strand of your hair behind your ear. “Good girl.” She says and then leaves.
You hear her heels clicking against the floor and you take a few breaths. What the fuck just happened and what did you agree too? You think and you look at Melissa’s retreating form. You see a slight sway in her hips and can’t help but look at her ass. The other teachers warned you about her and now you agreed to go to her house after school today. Are you very fucked right now? You continue to collect the books and talk to students about late books right until the end of the day. When you’re packing up to go home you get a text from an unknown number.
Unknown number: Hey hon, it’s Melissa. Here’s my address
You read and then get another text with an address.
You: How did you get my number?
Melissa: I know a guy
It’s all she says and then a wave of nerves hits you. In truth, Melissa went to Ava for your number and Ava gave it to her without much thought.
You pull up the driveway of Melissa’s house and walk up to the door. You’re about to knock when you glance down and see the ‘go away’ welcome mat and you hesitate. You then decide to fuck it and knock. Melissa opens the door a few seconds later and smiles when she sees you.
“Hey hon, come on in.” She tells you and steps aside to let you in. “Dinner is in the oven and it’ll be ready in about 10 minutes.” She says as she begins to lead you to her kitchen. “Want some wine while we wait?” She asks you and looks back and sees you looking at her pictures. “Those are just some family pictures.” She tells you a little smile makes its way to your face.
“You have a beautiful family.” You say and she smiles. “Some wine would be nice.” You tell her as she leads you into her kitchen. She pours a glass for you and hands it to you before she pours one for herself. She can see you still nervous even after a few sips of wine so she walks up behind you, spins you around and traps you between her and her counter.
“There’s no need to be nervous around me hon. I’m not going to do anything to you.” She tells you as your eyes are wide and looking directly at her. You don’t answer so she talks again. “What has been said about me that’s got you so nervous?” She asks you and you gulp. “Come on, be a good girl and tell me.” She says and you have to admit that those words affected you and you tell her.
“They warned me to-to be cautious around you as you know several guys in various fields and you know how to get what you want.” You tell her and she hums.
“Well like I said before.” She starts and starts trailing a finger on your wrist up to your shoulder. “I’m not going to do anything to you.” She tells you. “Unless you want me too.” She adds and you glance down and see her outfit better. She changed into a green tank top with a jean sweater, with her hair up, and that tank top doesn’t leave much to the imagination. “You can look all you want.” She tells you as she catches you looking at her chest again. She then places a hand on your hip and moves it up your side, making you squirm a bit. “I know you have a crush on me, and I do want you as well.” She says and your jaw drops. She then leans over to your ear. “I want to claim you as my own.” She whispers in your ear and pulls back to see your eyes turn black. She smiles and leans to your lips until hers meet yours and she starts kissing you and you don’t stop her, in fact you kiss her back.
She smiles into the kiss, knowing she got you. She wanted you and like always she got what she wanted. The other teachers were right about that, she gets what she wants and knows several guys who can help make it happen. She thought it would take longer to get you but then she realised that you already have a crush on her.
She trails her fingers to the hem of your shirt and pulls it up when you don’t stop her. She takes your shirt off and then puts her hands on your bra while still kissing you. She then goes to your back and unclips your bra before yanking it off. She immediately attaches her mouth to a nipple and you gasp and put your hands in her hair. She brings her hands to your thighs and wraps her arms around them before hoisting you up onto the counter. She goes and kisses your neck and starts sucking on it, marking what’s hers. While kissing your neck, she brings her hand over to your centre and starts circling it over your underwear. You’re a moaning mess at this point and all you want is for Melissa to fuck you.
“Me-Melissa, p-please.” You say and Melissa pulls your pants down and off, as well as your panties. She stares at you completely naked for a second before separating your legs and then bends down to where your clit is. Before she dives in, the oven timer goes off, startling both of you.
“Stay just as you are, baby, this will just take a second.” She says and then goes and turns the oven off but keeps the food inside to keep warm. She returns back and goes back in between your legs. “Now where were we before we were so rudely interrupted?” She tells you with a smirk and then bends down again.
“Wait.” You say and she stops and looks up at you. “Do you mind, um…” You start but then get nervous.
“What is it, baby?”
“Do you mind, putting your glasses on?” You ask her and she tilts her head before smiling.
“Have you imagined me eating you out before with my glasses on?” She asks and you nod. “Naughty girl.” She says with a smirk before she puts her glasses on. She then doesn’t wait any longer and dives down to your pussy. You gasp out as her hot tongue finally connects with your centre. You put your hands in her hair and grab her ponytail. You’ve imagined this scenario many times before but never thought it would come true. But now here she is, eating you out with her glasses on and hair in a ponytail just like you imagined. Melissa then moves to your clit and starts licking and sucking as you moan out. She then inserts a finger inside of you and all thoughts leave your head besides thoughts of her.
“Mel-Melissa.” You moan out and you feel her smile as she continues sucking on your clit. You feel your orgasm approaching and you tighten your hold on her hair. She then inserts a second finger in you and she replaces her tongue with her palm and straightens herself so she’s face to face with you.
“I want to watch as you come undone by me.” She says seductively and you wrap an arm around her and dig your nails into her back. She can tell you’re close at that point and she starts going faster. Your mouth is hanging open and you dig your nails deeper in her back and she can feel you squeeze around her fingers. “Come for me, baby.” She says and then you come around her fingers. She slows down inside of you before removing her fingers. She then brings her fingers to your mouth and you waste no time in opening her mouth and licking her fingers clean of your juices. “Now how about we eat dinner and then I take you to my bed and fuck you with a dildo.” You hum and lean your head on her chest as you’re coming down from your high. She strokes your head and wraps an arm around your back and presses a kiss to the top of your head.
She gave you her jean jacket to wear as she thought you getting dressed was a waste of time as she’ll just take all your clothes off again. All through dinner you stare at her and her arms. You had no idea she had muscles as she usually wears sweaters and long sleeve shirts.
“What are you staring at?” She asks you.
“You.” You simply say, not embarrassed to admit it now that she’s fucked you. “Mostly your arms. Had no idea you have muscles.”
“Most people don’t.” She simply says and gives you a smile. After dinner she brings you straight to the bedroom, she takes off the sweater she gave you and then pushes you down onto the bed. “Since you like staring at my chest so much, you’ll like what you see without anything on.” She tells you before she removes her shirt and bra. As soon as she removes her bra, your jaw drops. There they were, the objects of your gaze and they’re perfect.
“Wow.” You breathe out and she smirks before getting you on your back. She then takes her pants and underwear off as you lean on your forearms to watch her undress. She goes to her closet and puts a strap on with an average size dildo and then walks back to the bed. She goes on top of you and starts circling your clit. Once she feels that you’re wet enough, she puts some lube on the dildo and then slowly slides in you. Once she’s fully inside you, she gives you a second before she starts moving and you start gasping and moaning.
“Your pussy looks so good, just sucking this dildo right up.” Melissa tells you. After a couple minutes, as your orgasm approaches, Melissa suddenly pulls out of you and you look at her in shock. “I want you on all fours, so I can pound into you.” She says seductively in your ear and you shiver. You then get on your hands and knees and Melissa aligns the dildo with your entrance and inserts it into you. She then starts pounding into you and you fall a bit and Melissa takes advantage of that and keeps your ass lifted, giving a better angle. Once you get close again, she lifts you up so your back is pressed against her chest and she starts circling your clit while still moving the dildo inside of you. “This pussy is amazing and it’s all mine.” She says in your ear and you reach behind you and grab a hold of her hair. You come a few seconds later and your sounds get her to come as well since the dildo was rubbing her clit. You both catch your breath and lay down on the bed after Melissa takes the strap on off.
“Melissa?” You say as you look at her and she looks at you. “Was this a one time thing?” You ask her and she looks at you and tucks a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Do you want this to be a one time thing?” She asks you and you shake your head. “I thought you were scared of me and now you want to see me more?” She asks you.
“You’ve given me no reason to be scared of you.” You tell her. “You did tell me that you’re not going to do anything to me.” You add and she smiles at you.
“This wasn’t a one time thing, I would like to do it again. As well as take you out on a date.” She says and you smile at her.
“I would like that.” You say and she pulls you closer to her.

high masking autistic steve snippet - a follow on from this and this

Steve is spending the evening doing one of his new things. Where he takes time to just be. It’s recovering, or Stevie time, or whatever Eddie and Robin have decided it should be called.
He’s alone basically, and it’s nice, because he’s letting it be nice. Letting it be restful.
It’s for when he’s had a meltdown. Or can feel one coming on, because now he’s starting to recognise what overstimulation feels like on his skin. How it prickles at the back of his neck if his breaks cut short, makes his vision vignette if something too unexpected happens.
Learned that after something like that he’ll need to rest. Needs time.
And it’s not lazy. It’s not. (Sometimes it still feels like it is.) (Weak…that word always plays in the deep, scathing tone of his father’s voice…and selfish.)
He’s on the couch, it’s dark, he actually feels really comfortable, and he’s watching The Breakfast Club. Watching it again. It’s his favourite, it feels like his. But he doesn’t like watching it with other people because they might notice how much he likes it and he doesn’t want that. Can’t be seen like that.. Embarrassing.
So he watches it alone, when he gets home from work. He pauses whenever he wants, rewinds, pauses. Takes a deep breath, rewinds, pauses, stares into space.
He also pauses to eat the snack he brought in. Actually tasting the food bc it’s the only thing he has to focus on. No lights, no sounds. He forgot how much he likes oranges when they’re ripe. Harder to taste if he has to listen at the same time. So, on a day like today, he lets himself do stuff one step at a time.
It’ll probably take him double the normal run time to get all the way to the end. But who cares? It’s his time.
The weird girl’s parents driving off; that feels like him. The jock’s Dad letting him off easy; that doesn’t feel like him. ‘No schools gonna give a scholarship to a discipline case.’ Maybe that does feel like him. Before through. A long time ago now.
He claps sometimes. Keening high in his throat, a little happy hum that he only lets himself do when he’s alone like this. He does it after he whistles the same tune they do. And during the scene of them running around the corridors. It’s exiting. Makes his lips stretch wide and his feet flap around. He claps. Once. Twice. It feels good.
He laughs at the characters. How they merge together with bits of his friends. He feels that swell of happy sad emotion looking at the jock when he first comes in, acting above the others, only seeing Molly Ringwald. He lives through a couple flashbacks of himself. Resigns to actually watch them, sit in them, begins to process who he was. Who he’s becoming now. Something like forgiveness tasting sweet on his tongue. He cries a little; that swelling and shifting as buried emotion finally passes. It overcomes him sometimes when he lets his mind relax.. He rewinds, and he laughs.
“Stevie?”
Steve starts, fingers tangle in the blanket in his lap. Brain slow to process the change, the information. Eddie slipping through the door and coming over to him. Eddie dipping to look at Steve’s face, trying to catch Steve’s eye. Eddie smelling like cigarettes and crisp autumn air, it’s nice, but, it’s a lot. Panic sits bubbling somewhere in him. He wasn’t expecting this.
“…Eddie?”
“Hey sweetheart. I know you had a shitty day, but Wayne’s at home with a headache and he needs to sleep it off. Wouldn’t’ve been able to stay quiet enough for him.”
Steve breaths in and out a little quickly. Eyes wide.
Maybe it’s okay. Eddie knows he had a bad day. Maybe it’s okay.
“I’ll sit in the kitchen, work on my campaign, just forget I’m here.” Eddie speaks quietly, almost a whisper.
He stares at his hand in his lap. “..You won’t, listen?” Steve feels small. Knows he’s not, his frame broad and strong. But, he needs small. Wants his world small tonight, slow. Wants to stay hidden. Him and the couch and the film and nothing else.
Eddie just shakes his walkman and smiles (in that pointy way that makes Steve’s toes curl).
“Kay” Steve whispers, still wary, off kilter. But accepts the kiss Eddie drops on his head, tangling their fingers together for a breath. Steve leans forward for a kiss on the lips. It’s deep, and lovely. Steve can smell Eddie’s cologne. Feels where the chill bit at Eddie’s nose. He shivers.
“No cooking.” Steve mumbles while their lips are still close. Small smile pulling at his face, eyes sharp, waiting for Eddie to get it.
Eddie groans quietly in embarrassment but his eyes are soft and molten and Steve’s toes curl up again. “Course not baby, not again. Once you’re hungry just come through, yeah? Make us something nice.”
And the light of the kitchen doesn’t reach the couch. And Eddie listens to his walkman loud. And Steve’s safe. It’s Eddie. He’s not listening. Steve’s safe.
His favourite scene; Bender and Claire in the stock cupboard. The way he looks so shocked, the way she bites her lip. ‘Why’d you do that?’ ‘Because I knew you wouldn’t.’ Steve whispers as they do. Claps. It’s such a good scene. He’s exited. He claps again. Rewinds to just watch her face. Rewinds to just watch his. Rewinds and watches the whole scene again. Wraps his arms around his middle and squeezes. Pauses on the kiss. He rubs his fingers agains his mouth. Giddy excitement bubbles in his belly. He hums high and happy again. He loves this movie.
The weird girl gets a makeover, the jock really likes it. He feels like the weird girl sometimes, maybe Eddie can be his jock. Maybe he should get a makeover. Maybe keep growing out his hair. Maybe Eddie would like that.
The credits roll. Bender’s fist in the air. Steve drifts on the couch, eyes closed. He breaths deep, his stomach growls.
He pads through to Eddie. Squinting. Too bright. “D’you mind?” He motions to the lights, his eyes too adjusted to the dark and he doesn’t even wanna try and adjust them back.
‘‘Cause. What we making?”
Steve hums, goes into the pantry to see what’s easy. Eddie slips in behind him, hand on his waist. “Pasta?” Steve asks but Eddie doesn’t reply, just turns him gently. Nudging him to step back into the corner.
Eddie looks at him, dips forward to place a slow kiss on his neck. “Why’d you do tha..’ Steve’s words dry up in his throat.
“Because I knew you wouldn’t” and Eddie’s eyes are sparking with glee.
Eddie heard him.
He listened.
Steve’s feels himself flush hot, embarrassed and ashamed. “Ah, I, uh.” He can’t explain it, why he had to watch it so many times, why it makes him so exited. He crosses his arms over his chest. Turns back to the shelves of food and picks a can at random. Shoving out of the room.
“Steve?”
Eddie said he wouldn’t. He listened in on him. He said he wouldn’t. He’s making fun of him. Steve knew he should’ve told Eddie to go home.
“Stevie? What’s wrong?” But Steve doesn’t want to talk to him. He’s so angry, So ashamed, of himself. What if Eddie heard him clap too, heard him make that high noise, like a fucking baby, like some freak.
He puts the can on the counter with way too much force, corn, not what he fucking wanted. His hands are shaking. He stares at them, wills his tears to stay behind his lash line. He got too comfortable, he can’t do that. Why is it so hard to pretend now, when it used to be so easy.
“Steve, tell me what I did, please.”
“‘M fine” Steve’s insides feel too big, pushing against his skin, itchy all over. He squeezes himself around his middle again, digging his fingers in hard.
“Don’t do that, you know I hate when you bullshit like that.” Half lovely, half scathing.
The word stinks, a stab to the gut. But Steve gets it, he does, they talked about it. He bites his lip, hard.
Its old habits or whatever. Because Steve, he loved fine. Liked sinking his teeth into it; toxic waste green coating his mouth and lungs. Thick and delicious. Because fine gets you out of it. Fine gives you translucency. Controlled balance. Everything appearing a none issue, the perfect in-between. Steve was perfect at coming off as something to not worry about, someone to be ignored. It used to work in all situations; can’t get told off if you’re fine, cant do anything wrong, teachers didn’t look twice, his parents wouldn't shout. By staying half alive, never letting anyone too close, never filling your lungs up all the way. That was the fine Steve adored.
“You were literally just watching a movie. I dunno what the big deal is.” and there’s frustration, confusion, in Eddie, Steve thinks. He feels himself tense up, glance over.
Eddie must see something on his face. See that scared little animal prowling around within him. Because Eddie softens, his voice gentle. “Steve.. it’s nothing I hadn’t heard before.’ And Steve’s teeth clamp together with a click. He’s done that, his clap and his high hum, in front of Eddie before? Steve tries to swallow, he can’t, a lump too big and sticky in his throat.
He can’t look him in the face, angry tears still threatening to spill “You said you wouldn’t listen.” He’s mumbling. He sounds even more like a kid. Stupid. Grow up.
“I heard a little but I was just flipping the tape over, I wasn’t trying to snoop on you Stevie… You just, you sounded happy.”
Steve huffs. Glances at Eddie. That soft underbelly of his whining, because with Eddie, Steve yearns. Yearns for close. Yearns to be seen, and understood.
“You didn’t mean to?”
“No, it was just when I was turning the tape.”
Steve forces a deep breath.
“You think I’m weird. You hate me.” He whispers it like it’s true. A big part of him believes it, his tears welling up. Feels rejected. Knows that feeling too well. Hates it.
“Always like you Steve. Always.”
Steve grunts, a tear slips out, rolls down his cheek.
“‘M embarrassed” comes out like an ugly sob. Steve scrubs his palms on his cheeks, feeling how red hot they are. Glaring at the countertop. “I’m embarrassed!” But it’s just Eddie. It was just Eddie.
Eddie comes over, slowly draping himself over Steve’s back. “Nothin' to be embarrassed about, love.” And Eddie leaves soft kisses on Steve’s neck, squeezes his waist. “You looked cute on the couch like that. Like it when you’re happy.” Steve tries taking another deep breath but it shudders.
Embarrassed, angry, sad. Embarrassed, confused, angry. Frustrated, embarrassed. Tired.
Emotions wash over him. He’s learning to try and just feel them, name them, pick them apart. Some bubble back up to the surface, some only needed to be seen once.
Steve turns to bury his face in Eddie’s neck. He sighs, rubs his face into Eddie’s warm skin. shaking his head, likes how his lips feel moving against edie’s soft parts.
Tired, hungry, embarrassed, hungry.
“’M tired. I dunno what to eat.” He whispers, and then because he said it it’s like there’s space in his brain. “Want pasta.”
“Pasta it is then. And then we can sleep, yeah?” Eddie rocks them gently side to side, kisses the side of his head and slips away. Goes to get the box from the pantry, puts the corn back. Steve gets a pot out of the cupboard.
Staring into the water, the tips of his fingers prickle. Steve fizzes with energy and emotion. All pent up and annoying him. Needs it out. He clicks the flame on.
He starts pacing around the kitchen island. In big striding, stomping steps. “Ugh! You think I’m weird. Some weird guy who acts weird and does weird shit.” Steve grumbles. Annoyed. He smacks his palm quick and hard against the counter top. Keeps stomping.
Eddie comes back and starts following. Stomping and prancing like some court jester. “I like that you’re weird! You know, I have one episode of the Twilight Zone taped. It’s my third one. I watched the other two so much the tapes broke.’ Steve lets a little shout slip from him “Ha!” bubbly and forceful. Dislodging something within him. Like when a tooth finally falls out.
Feels good.
“I only like one brand of spaghetti hoops. Wayne once bought me a multipack for Christmas. Best fucking gift I ever got.” and Steve’s laughing now. Giggling and manic and still stomping around the island.
“I like how it feels to brush my teeth. I’ve never had a filling. I fucking love brushing my teeth, Eddie.” and that makes Eddie laugh now too. Two freaks stomping around the kitchen. A king and his jester, lit up by moonlight.
Steve turns the corner and stops short, still giggling. Eddies bent at one knee, presenting the box of pasta to him. “My liege.”
Steve claps, hums, high and keening. The waters boiling.
-
“How’d you feel now?’ Eddie asks around a mouthful of cheesy pasta.
Steve curls up tighter into the corner of couch, wraps both hands around the warm bowl. Glances at Eddie across from him. “Still kinda embarrassed.”
Eddie looks so soft, so kind, across from him. “I’m embarrassed too, to be honest. You love that movie, I thought you’d like me doing that. Kinda like when we, when we kissed upside-down, like I was Spider-man” Eddies sentence get quieter towards the end, mumbly, spoked into his bowl, cheeks dusted pink.
Steve strains to hear him. Smiles once he puts the words together.
He shovels pasta in his mouth. Eyes closed. “You are so annoying Eddie Munson. Why’d you even come here tonight, you coulda gone anywhere.” Steve sinks further into the couch, it’s really good pasta.
“Missed you.” Eddie says it like it’s simple, easy, and warmth drips over Steve’s skin.
Eddie clears his throat, Steve feels him fidget. “Wanna maybe.. You think we could live together one day? Want you to be able to do whatever you want with me around Steve. Breakfast Club on all the time at our place, kay?” And Steve’s throat constricts, that’s a big change, living with someone, moving out. But maybe with Eddie it could be okay, if they did it together, slow.
“Yeah, kay. One day.” Softly, bit by bit. Little bits. Steve can get there. Let Eddie in, let Eddie see. “But no to Breakfast Club on all the time.” Because some times, some days, some things, are just for him. Steve needs it that way. And that’s okay.
He stretches out further on the couch, feeling syrupy and nice, easy smile playing at his lips. “I like it when you kiss my neck though, you can do that again.” And that makes Eddie grin all pointy, put their bowls to the side and crawl over him.
Steve’s toes curl and he hums, high and happy.

Thursday, October 31st 1985
It was the best night of the year.
Halloween. Mischief. Trick or Treating.
Candy.
They knew better than to talk about candy around Eddie right now.
Well, they would be out having fun if they weren’t just sitting in Gareth’s garage waiting…
“They’ll be here,” Dustin insisted when Dave and Gareth shot withering glances his way for what felt like the hundredth time in the last hour. “Just…give it ten more minutes.”
The members of Corroded Coffin were dressed in the Halloween finery from their set at the Hideout—vampires—and the plan had been for Dustin, Mike, and Lucas to join in.
Dustin enthusiastically showed up early to get ready with the older boys. Eddie had shown him how to get the fangs to fit just right while Dave helped him slick his hair back in true Dracula finery.
Before long, it was time to go find their plunder.
Except…Lucas and Mike weren’t there yet.
“They said they’d be here,” Dustin shrugged when the others asked where his friends were. “They’ll be here.”
But that was a half hour ago.
And a similar answer was given every ten minutes that the others impatiently questioned.
“Where’re your friends Henderson?”
“They’ll be here.”
Another ten minutes passed by and Dustin got to his feet and stormed into the house to ask Mrs. Emerson if he could use the phone before any of the others could question him again.
He knew his friend’s phone numbers by heart, still his hands shook as he dialed.
Mike first.
Mrs. Wheeler answered in surprise when she heard his voice. “Michael is down in the basement. He must’ve forgotten. He thought you were coming over, asked if we could order pizza later. I can drop him off!”
Dustin let out a breath of relief—internally vowing to give Mike hell for forgetting their plans—and thanked his friend’s mom before hanging up and staring at the rotary dial with dread once again.
Lucas. Should he even try calling the Sinclair house? If Mike forgot, maybe Lucas had as well. Would Mike have the sense to knock on his neighbors door and remind him too?
A gaping pit of doubt opened up in Dustin’s stomach then, and he worried his bottom lip as another thought formed.
Lucas had missed out on a few of their plans so far. He’d never missed Hellfire, but lately he’d been chosen to sit with the basketball team at lunch more often. And had forgone homework sessions down in the Wheeler’s basement in favor of hanging around those dumb jocks.
Pizza bagels! How could he miss pizza bagels?
And the more Dustin thought the more those insidious thoughts grew until he could envision Lucas at some party with his new friends instead of being here getting ready for Halloween with him them. Where he was supposed to be.
“Alright kid,” Eddie’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. “What’s the verdict? Are they coming or not? Davey’s about to blow a gasket.”
“Uh,” Dustin looked down at the phone again and then gently placed the receiver back. “Mike should be here soon. He forgot we’d made plans.”
“Typical Wheeler,” Eddie scoffed and folded his arms over his chest. “And Sinclair?”
“He has plans with his other friends,” Dustin responded, unable to keep the bitterness out of his voice.
Eddie sighed and closed the distance so he could wrap an arm around Dustin’s shoulders.
“Hey man,” he started. “It…I know it sucks that Lucas is being seduced by the dark side but…that’s just how high school is. And he’ll be around if he wants to. Or he won’t. You think those losers out in the garage have been my pals since we were born? Nah I had to wrangle them together all by myself.
“And my friends from middle school…shit, the ones who graduated without me…well, they’re onto bigger and better things. And I just need to be…happy for them.”
“The jocks aren’t better than us,” Dustin practically snarled in response.
“Hey, jealousy isn’t metal,” Eddie poked him in the chest and then patted his hand against the sore spot. “But friendship is. I'm not too thrilled that Lucas is hanging out with those assholes either, but you can't let it get the best of you. The rest of your friends are waiting out in the garage so we can get full size candy bars in Loch Nora. Are you just gonna let us wait while you let the green-eyed monster hulk you out?”
“No.”
“Good. Now let’s get back in there and we can think up some good ways to make Wheeler feel bad for being so goddamn late.”
They headed back out into the garage where the others boo'd at the announcement of Mike's tardiness, but they eagerly contributed to his punishment.
But more time passed and it seemed even the ants in their pants suddenly had ants in their pants.
And then the Wheeler's station wagon pulled up to Gareth's yard.
From a distance, they all could see Mrs. Wheeler turn to say something to the figures in the backseat. Presumably Holly...and maybe Nancy?
But the backseat door opened and Mike got out, fastening a shiny black cape that looked a lot like it belonged to a vampire, but Dustin knew was from an old magic trick set in the Wheeler's basement.
"Took you long enough kid!" Eddie announced, slapping his thighs as he got to his feet. "No time for fangs, we've gotta go!"
"Sorry, sorry!" Mike apologized as he jogged up the driveway.
Then, from the passenger's side of the car, another door opened.
And Lucas' head popped up over the top of the station wagon as he thanked Mrs. Wheeler for driving them.
He jogged around the car and shrugged on a leather jacket that looked a lot like Eddie's, and had his own pair of ripped jeans and the other boys all applauded his look.
"Looking good Sinclair!" Eddie clapped him on the back as he passed, and then shot Dustin a knowing glance. "Now let's go!"
Mike and the others immediately followed after Eddie--Mike dodging the others as they jeered at him for his tardiness--Lucas held back to wait for Dustin at the back of the group.
Dustin, who dragged his feet a little in guilt.
"You look great!" Lucas beamed and took in Dustin's full costume.
"Thanks, so do you," he grinned nervously and then cleared his throat. "I didn't think you were gonna make it."
Lucas scoffed, "I should've known Mike would forget! I was waiting for an hour, I should've just left."
"Hah, yeah," Dustin then cleared his throat. "I mean...I guess I was worried you had other plans. Like you were invited to a party or something."
"I mean, yeah," Lucas shrugged, as if his invitation to the basketball team's outing was obvious. "But I wouldn't be anywhere else except trick or treating with you guys. At least, not until we're too old for it."
And just like that, all of the negativity disappeared.
All of the envy.
Eddie was right--Eddie suspiciously let out a laugh at the exact moment that thought crossed Dustin's mind--Lucas would be around if he wanted to. And he did want to.
"We're never gonna be too old for Trick or Treating," Dustin announced and then shouted to the head of the group. "Not while these senior citizens are still roaming!"
Lucas tilted his head back and let out a cackle, then added, "I don't think anyone is giving out Charleston Chew tonight Eddie."
"Gotta be careful with your dentures!" Mike added.
Eddie blindly shot a middle finger back towards the younger boys, earning laughs from all of them.
Dustin smiled at Lucas and clapped him on the shoulder, then they raced to the head of the group.
He wasn't losing his friend. He was just gaining some wisdom.

I was tagged by: @songbee-art (it won't let me tag just songbee)
1. Are you named after anyone? My first name is an old book character, and my second name is a derivative of my grandmother's name. My screen name is one I made up, and have started preferring to my legal name.
2. When was the last time I cried? Nearly cried when I had a freak out realizing I forgot to follow back friend. Before that a couple hours ago when deep topic hit deep.
3. Do I have kids? No. Don't want them either. I'm good at babysitting and watching kids for a few hours but get distracted and frustrated easily. I don't trust myself with them. Kids seem to like me though. I've been told I tell good stories and am patient when explaining things to them. I treat them like full humans?
4. What sports do you play/have you played? I played volleyball, did cross country running, softball, and skiing. Real jock here (not really there was nothing to do but sports where I used to live). Haven't played any since 2020 though. I use a bike though sometimes.
5. Do you use sarcasm? Never. I don't have a sarcastic bone in my body.
6. What's the first thing you notice about someone? How close they are in relation to me. I don't like anyone I don't know to be near me. Next thing is clothes.
7. Eye color? Blue and yellow (not two different eyes but mixed in both)
8. Scary movies or happy endings? Depends on mood, but a scary movie can have a happy ending. It's a chore to get to sit long enough to watch a movie though.
9. Any talents? I've been told I have some good writing skills. I can draw? I can analyze stuff? Idk.
10. Where were you born? In a hospital? Why, you need a recommendation? I live on the west coast.
11. Hobbies? Reading, writing, drawing, thinking, overthinking.
12. Any pets? I have a cat named Lilliana. We call her Lily Bones sometimes.
13. Height? Taller than average but shortest in my family.
14. Favourite school subject? Writing followed by history.
15. Dream job? Getting hired by DC, writing 6 issue solo serieses for Helena Bertinelli, Mia Dearden, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, and than being assigned to a main Batbook where I can have my go at four part storyline. After my sucess I get put on a new project where I get all the creative freedom. I write a 20 issue maxi series on a preflash point alternate timeline where Bruce stayed dead. I then get to write a Tim Drake twelve issue maxi where I bring back Tim's civilian friends in a fun but serious story about starting to grow up, and by the end Tim has a new identity.
A job that makes enough that I can have enough money to eat three meals, have a warm shower, and live in a building that won't fall apart with a strong wind?

The halls of Hawkins High felt eerie at night. You walked alone through the main hallway as the building seemed to shift tones. The stories of Hawkins being haunted danced in your mind as you peered down the next hallway. Nothing but a myth yet here you were curious to the secrets the walls held.
You didn’t know where you were going but you followed the sounds of laughter and occasional yelling down toward the end of hall. As you ventured closer, your nerves seemed to take over. You wondered if you were making a mistake by observing the famous hellfire club; If you messed up everything by leaving the jocks and creating social suicide earlier today. Something told you, however, no matter what happened today, you’d find yourself detaching from that group of basketball players. At least with this option, you weren’t alone. Besides, the leader of the so-called cult caught your eye and you couldn’t help but allow yourself to be drawn to him.
The theater room came into view and you instinctively straightened out your skirt and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear before walking into whatever was waiting for you.
Right before you stepped in, the entire table jumped up in disbelief, screaming over something that was thrown onto the table. You stayed behind the door in case you were interrupting something.
“IT WAS SO CLOSE!”
“COME ON”
“WHY DID YOU THINK THAT WOULD WORK”
The screaming unraveled into a mix of grumbles and muttered words underneath Eddie’s narration.
“Well gentlemen, we all learned a valuable lesson this fine evening; don’t let Gareth make the final roll.”
“Fuck off” Gareth muttered as he gathered his dice and figure off the table.
“Looks like you will have to wait until next week to see just how bad Gareth’s decision was to the mission. Now get outta here I got shit to do before I can leave.” He said the last part somewhat joking but still prompting them to pack up.
It seemed that the night was over for them as well. You missed it. A part of you was upset as you were really looking forward to watching. It made sense though, some of the boys had rides that were at the basketball game so they’d have to finish.
You finally opened the door to reveal the party. At the sound of the old creaking door, the boys turned around.
“Hey we’re cleaning up don’t loc- Oh! Y/N! Hey! Uh- welcome to the hellfire club. Hate to say we’re just finishing up now.” The freshman, Dustin, spoke up.
There were six boys lined up on the sides of the table with Eddie at the end, sitting on a made up throne. When you finally locked eyes with him, the look he was giving you was hard to read. It was almost a smirk with a hint of intrigue. He was leaning back in the chair with one foot propped up and his arms held onto the armrest of the chair as he stared at you. You haven’t seen him this confident or relaxed before.
“I’m sorry I missed, I thought I’d at least be able to see the end. The game went on longer than I thought.” you said as you gained the confidence to walk further into the room.
“It’s alright, princess.” A few days ago, you’d roll your eyes at his mocking nickname but it was growing on you. “How was the game?” He spoke over the collection of noises made by the boys packing up as if they weren’t there. It was just you and him.
“Besides getting pushed down at the end of the halftime dance, it went well. We won.” you shrugged.
“You got pushed?” Dustin asked with a tone of concern. Gareth held back a laugh and the other boys let out mumbles of concerns and annoyance toward the jocks.
“I’ll get used to it. I did it to myself when I decided to join your table at lunch.”
“Still don’t understand why you did that.” Eddie said quietly. You wrapped around the table over next to where Eddie was sitting. He leaned back more into the chair and you couldn’t help but admit to yourself that he looked quite nice with this view. You shook the thought from your mind and put your hands on your hips.
“They were talking shit. That’s not my thing. I’d rather hang out with people that don’t make a joke out of me.” You trailed off at the end but Eddie caught on to what you were saying. He sat back up from the throne and looked at you with a face of concern.
The boys began to trail out, reading the room. They whispered among themselves bets between the two of you and what Eddie meant earlier by things to do; thinking, knowing it involved you. He wouldn’t admit it, you couldn’t see it, but they saw just how smitten he was over you.
“Did they say something about you? Is that really why you left?” He asked quietly. You shrugged.
“Something about you only wanting me around for your virgin sacrifices.” You rolled your eyes. You knew it wasn’t the case, in fact, in reality, it was them that only wanted you around because you were new. But as you’ve told yourself, and they would soon know, new doesn’t equal naive.
“They got some goddamn nerves.” He muttered as he got up. He started folding up his screen along with the books and binders that created a barricade on the table. It was the first time you got a good look at the table. A fictional map was laid out across the table along with collections of dice and figurines. Drawings that presumably were drawn by Eddie himself scattered around. “I’m sorry, Y/N.”
“So this is Dungeon and Dragons…” You began, changing the subject. You dragged your finger across the map and lingered over a particular drawing. It was of a creature, you couldn’t name, but it wore a rugged robe and was missing an arm. It had shriveled skin that almost made it look skeleton-like. Some sort of red magic or flames surrounded him in the drawing. “Did you draw this?”
You looked back up toward Eddie who stopped packing up to observe your reactions to the table. He was looking for any sign of judgment or you being weirded out at one of his passions. Instead, you gave him a look of awe and curiosity. He put his weight onto one side and crossed his arms across his chest. His confidence returned once he settled for your reaction.
“Maybe,” he shrugged.
“I didn’t know you could draw. This is amazing. I don’t even know what it is but I’m just impressed it was made by you.” You smiled at the metalhead as you picked it up and gave it to him to pack.
He wasn’t used to someone acknowledging his drawings. Let alone complimenting them. Sure his uncle always said he was an artist, his fridge covered in doodles created by a younger Eddie, but hearing it from someone else was different. Even the club treated his art as accessories to the campaign and was too involved in the story to process the hours it took for Eddie to draw and shape such props. He never took it to heart, he liked that it was a more private hobby. He was trying to justify why he felt this warm feeling inside. It was because of his art, not the person complimenting it. But that was a lie. One he was all too well learning to master.
He didn’t even know how to admit such a thing; The fact that he loved hearing how you spoke lighter and faster when you praised his art work or recognized a song or artist he loved. The fact that he was definitely falling for you and he doesn’t know how else to express it than to just ignore it. He wasn’t prepared for this, no more than a test in Mrs. O'Donnell's next week. At least that one came with a study guide.
“I dabble.” He remarked before taking the drawing from your hand. “This is Vecna. He’s the main villain of this campaign. He was killed by the hands of Kas early on in the story. See, what they don’t know is that he will return next week and they have to try and defeat him once again.” He had to stop himself from explaining in heavy details of why and how. He would refrain until he’s had time to sit and teach you the basics of the game.
“And you write these stories?” You asked, impressed with how much time and dedication this took from Eddie.
“Yeah, well they have overall lore and storylines you can follow but really the story unfolds as we go. That’s what most of the fun comes from.” He smiled.
“And if I played, I could be a princess?”
“We can make that happen.” Eddie smiled. It made his heart swell knowing you were intrigued by it.
“So hey… there’s this after party happening at Andy’s.” You began as you helped pick up some of the figures on the table. Looking up, you saw Eddie give you a trivial face. “I realized I’m not one for parties and my supposed ride is going. So if you’re not doing anything, I was wondering if you could give me a ride home? I'm starving. We could grab some food as well.”
The boy’s face softened. You were choosing him over them yet again. He laughed quietly and shook his head. You caught on and giggled softly.
“What?”
“I just- you’re something else, L/N. You really are.”
“What do you mean?” You asked, giving him the last of the figurines as he placed it in his bag. Eddie stared at the bag with a smile before looking back up at you.
“You could be anywhere tonight. Hawkins just made it to the championship and they’re all out celebrating but you’d rather hang out with me. I just don’t get it.”
You frowned at the idea Eddie didn’t think he was worth your time. He was in fact someone you considered a friend. If there was one thing for certain in your short time here in Hawkins, you had two real friends. Chrissy and Eddie. An odd bunch for sure but everyone else were merely acquaintances when they weren’t pushing you during half-time shows or mocking you at lunch. Why would you want to spend your time getting drunk with a bunch of fake jocks when you could hang out with someone who actually got you. Someone who sparked your love to explore music. Someone who saw you as more than a new face. Of course he was worth your time.
“So is that a no?” you teased. His eyes shot wide and he was quick to recover.
“N-no! I mean yes, no- ugh” he cleared his throat. Never did he ever feel this awkward at this table. This table made him feel like a king. You were his kryptonite. “No, I would love your company. I didn’t have anything going on myself. I am starving. Do burgers sound nice? I can introduce you to the best diner in town.” He looked back down picking up the last of his items in order to avoid eye contact and the possible rejection.
“That actually sounds perfect.” You smiled. He couldn’t hide the smile that came along with your acceptance.
-
It was a fair drive to the diner that consisted of a few songs from Black Sabbath’s master of reality album. One he told you was a short but classic set of songs to add to your music library. You caught yourself nodding to ‘Into the Void’, which proved his point.
The diner resided on the outer part of town. You noticed Eddie tended to be attracted to these smaller hole-in-the-wall places and it made sense. You could see the appeal. It was those kinds of places where popular locals avoided and the same ones found their way back again. People like Eddie who liked to know everyone by name and they knew him by his. Where they knew his order and it was already being made the second they heard the bell ring at his arrival. It was a comfort, it was familiar. This was what this diner resembled.
The letter “n” was not lit, making the sign spell out “CRYSTAL’S DIER.” Two cars occupied the lot in addition to Eddie’s van. It made sense as it was right after 8.
After the reoccurring excuse of the broken door handle, Eddie opened the passenger side for you and followed as you entered the place. The smell of grease and salt filled your senses. Soft music played from the old jukebox in the corner. The floor had the black and white checkered tiles that clashed with the purple and blue run down wallpaper but it still somehow made sense for a place like this. Whoever Crystal was clearly didn’t have the skills for interior design, seeing they made their way into the food business. Only time would tell if that was a good choice.
“Well if isn’t it Mr. Munson?” a shorter lady stepped out of the kitchen in a light yellow dress. Her white hair tucked into a hair net and paper hat. Makeup painted her face but didn’t hide the years of smiles that made her wiser. She placed the coffee pot that was in her hand down on the counter before wrapping around and making her way toward Eddie. “I was about to go find your old uncle to check up on you. How are you doing, son?”
“I’m doing good, Ms. Crys.” his voice at an unfamiliar pitch. She pulled him into a hug to which he gladly accepted. The height difference made Eddie bend his knees and lean over which put him at an awkward angle. She kept him in this hug for a few seconds before realizing your existence.
“And you finally brought a friend. I was getting tired of serving for a party of one.” She playfully elbowed him. He dramatically rubbed his arm with a frown.
“I have brought people here before, Crys. Stop making me sound like a loser.”
“Hello, doll. I’m Crystal but everyone calls me Crys. You must be new in town, I never forget a face.”
"I’m Y/N. It’s nice to meet you. I just moved in last week.”
“Well it’s a pleasure, sweetie.” Crys led you to a table in the corner that had a wrap-around booth. Eddie and you made your way into the booth and scooted in so that you both sat with only the corner of the table separating you two. It gave you both an angle to see out into the diner and look back up at Crys, who waited for you two to get situated. “I’m taking it that Eds here is treating you right? If not, I’ll take care of it.”
A nervous laugh came from your left as you caught a glimpse of Eddie fidgeting with the napkins Crys just dropped onto your table. It was unusual seeing Eddie this flustered. It contrasted with the cocky persona he inhabited when you first met. It made you wonder if things would have been different if this was the side of him you saw from the beginning. When thinking about it, you in fact did that very first time. The moment when you pointed out the Dio shirt that he hand sewed into his denim jacket. For a split second, you caught him off guard. That was when you first saw this side of Eddie. It was when he was trying to avoid you that the other persona took place. It was his attempt to push you away. Clearly it didn’t work.
“Yes, ma’am.” You laughed as you gently nudged Eddie and gave him a smile before looking back at Crys. “He’s been showing me all the good places in Hawkins, including your diner.” The smile she gave you in return was different than before. This one revealed more wrinkles around her eyes. That comment must have meant a lot to her.
“Well in that case… dinner is on the house tonight. Order whatever you would like, sweetie.” She tapped the table with her notepad before walking away.
With that you grabbed a menu, suddenly aware of how hungry you were. You looked back up toward Eddie who just stared at you.
“What?” you whispered, smiling in curiosity toward the metalhead. His grin widened and he simply shook his head. He picked out a menu himself and shrugged before hiding his face in it.
“Nothing.” he said, nonchalantly.
“Eddie”
“hm?”
“What?” Reiterating as you laughed and kicked at his feet from under the table. At that, he placed the menu back on the table to look at you. You saw the hesitation in his eyes before he rolled them.
“The cheeseburger is a must. Ask for the diner special and she puts this sauce on it that just-“ he sighs in satisfaction. Words unable to describe the effect of this special sauce.
“What is it?” you asked, laughing at his actions.
“I don’t know, Ms. Crys says it’s a secret. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was simply cocaine, it’s addictive.” He picked back up the menu and lightly tapped it against the table as he looked back around the diner.
The joke reminded you of the favor Chrissy asked you earlier that week. You have yet to tell Eddie that she was hoping to deal with him. The main reason being was that you hoped she changed her mind, It just didn’t seem to be a good combination with what she described she was dealing with. Secondly, you forgot about it every time you’ve interacted with Eddie this week. Your mind was… usually occupied whenever you’ve talked to the boy in front of you. Part of you even forgot about his side job; it only being mentioned by the Hawkins basketball team.
“Now it’s my turn to ask what’s going on in that head of yours.” He got your attention.
“And I’m guessing I’m not allowed to change the topic like you just did?” You teased.
“Nope. Spill it, L/N.” He leaned back into the cushioned benched, raising his arms up to rest his head in his hands. His relaxed and confident side reappeared.
“That just got me thinking of something I’ve been meaning to ask you.” Your laugh became more nervous, not knowing how bringing this up would go.
“What? Cocaine fries?” He almost snorted at his own joke. You rolled your eyes, barely trying to hide your grin.
“Well the first part. You know- your business.” You didn’t mean for it to come out as awkward as it did but here you were. The last part was said quieter than you meant to.
“Where I sell drugs, yes. That business.” He nodded.
“Yes. That business. I was wondering about a deal- n-not for me. no. uh I’m not into all that. It’s uh- for a friend.” You didn’t know why you couldn’t get it out any less awkwardly. It wasn’t everyday you pitched a drug deal for a friend.
“Y/N, if you wanted to smoke, all you had to do was ask. Free of charge with me.” Eddie laughed, clearly amused. He shifted his weight to where he leaned more forward, placing his arms on the table and tilting his head toward you. “But if it’s for a friend… How can I be of service?”
“It’s for Chrissy.”
“Chrissy?”
“Yes, Chrissy. She uh-“ Before you could finish, you were interrupted by the now familiar sound of a notepad hitting the table and the lingering presence of an expensive perfume.
“So did I give y’all enough time to figure out what you want? Dave is getting bored back there in the back and threatened to leave if I didn’t give him another order to work on.” She rolled her eyes with a hint of amusement.
“Wouldn’t want to leave Dave getting paid for nothing do we?” Eddie spoke up, giving his menu one more tap against the table before sliding it toward Crys. “I’ll have my usual. Thanks, Mrs. C.”
“You got it. Chocolate milkshake and double burger-” She trailed off as she wrote down his order. “And you, sweetheart?” She asked.
“I’ll take a chocolate milkshake and the cheeseburger-“ You looked over at Eddie with a smile. “And can I get the diner special?”
“Why yes, glad to know Eds here is endorsing it still.”
“He said the sauce is a secret.” You smiled, intrigued for her response.
“Nah, I’ll tell you. As long as he’s not around.”
“What?” Eddie gasped, offended by her answer. “I’ve known you my whole life. You’ve known her for 15 minutes and she gets the secret diner special recipe?” He imitated getting stabbed in the chest and dramatically fell over in the booth. “I have been betrayed.” He croaked out from under the table.
Mrs. Crys rolled her eyes, clearly used to his dramatic flair he tended to have sometimes. “Oh get up, Eddie. I’ll let her know so she can make it for you long after I’m gone and you can bother her about the recipe. I’m simply passing the ropes here.” She joked. You laughed along but also questioned her exact meaning behind that.
“This kind of betrayal strikes right to the core.”
“Save it for you games, I’m gonna go get started on that food for ya.” Crys laughed as she walked away, yelling at Dave in the back to start on the patties.
“I will never forgive you for that.” Eddie shuffled back up in his seat. He cleared his throat and looked back at you seriously. “So Chrissy Cunningham.” He started.
“Oh yeah, she uh… she’s been getting these really bad headaches apparently. She said she’s also been having these intense dreams and not able to sleep? The medicine she’s been using hasn’t been doing the trick so she was wondering what you’d have that would help her calm her nerves and maybe help with that.”
“Mhmm…” Eddie sounded concerned.
“I told her I didn’t like that idea. She wanted me to ask so that Jason wasn’t made aware and I don’t know if drugs is the answer. I want her to go to a doctor but she also said that’s a no. Something about her mom…But she’s my friend and I wanted to see what you thought.”
Eddie also could see the problem with this. He understood distracting from the pain. He usually would never turn down a client. But there was something about the situation that didn’t sit right with him. He also didn’t like the idea of this particular client’s boyfriend finding out.
“I’ll meet with her and give her a small dosage of the good stuff.”
“The good stuff?”
“The good stuff.” He smirked. “It’s harmless and she’ll probably not even like it. But just to make her feel better. If she comes back for more, then we’ll figure something out for her.”
“Are you sure?”
“Business is business.”
“Promise me you won’t give her anything crazy, Eddie.” Part of him wanted to be offended by that comment but he had to remember that you were already stressed to bring this up and you were simply being concerned for a friend. He knew you knew he wouldn’t. You just needed reassurance you weren’t doing the wrong thing by bringing this up.
“I might like the money from it, but I still have boundaries when it comes to my clients. I know a cry for help when I see one, trust me. I wouldn’t give her anything she couldn’t handle.”
“Okay good.” Relief poured over you. It didn’t help that you were not familiar with the whole drug dealing business. The number of church camps and awareness you’ve seen throughout your life always scared you away from it. You almost felt embarrassed with how you were acting toward the whole situation.
“Just figure out a good time she’d want to meet and I’ll make sure it’s in a secret place so Jason won’t find out.” He said, his tone more serious than before. He didn’t like the idea at all. Chrissy turning to this was way more than just headaches and weird dreams. He would know. There’s a reason he turned to them himself.
“I’ll let her know. Thank you, I’m sorry I am so awkward when it comes to that.”
“Drugs?” He said in a mocking tone. “Crack? Marijua-“
“Stop making fun of me.” You laughed. “I get it, I'm naive or whatever they say.”
Eddie just gave you a lazy smile, thinking about the fact that he’d never imagine discussing a drug deal with a particular pastor's daughter. Sure he dealt with church kids all the time. They were usually his best clients, as reputable as Jason. Something about sitting here with you as you tried to keep hush about it made him almost fall over in this stupid feeling he’s been getting familiar with. He was a bad influence for the pastor's daughter… but he couldn’t help that it looked so damn good on you.
If anything, you were a bad influence on him. He’d quit dealing on the spot if you asked him to. He’d walk into Sunday service and even thank God for you. He’d do that and more if it meant getting to keep you close. This feeling, this type of chemistry was one he was not used to. Better yet, one he didn’t believe he deserved. It being handed to him so freely was a shock of its own. You haven’t walked away yet. Maybe you wouldn’t have to.
“No, you’re different.”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“Not at all. You’re just the kind person I- Hawkins needs.” He said.
“Oh good.” You said softly.
Silence fell over the both of you. The jukebox was playing a song with occasional cuts in the track that seemed to harmonize along with the sounds of the kitchen and muffled dialogue that you assumed was between Dave and Crys. There was only one other person in the diner and it was an older man who sat up against the bar sipping on the same cup of coffee since you both entered. It was a good kind of quiet. The kind that you wish you had access to more often. The kind that made it easier to think.
All you could think about right now was the boy in front of you and how much you wish you could ask him what he meant by you being the kind of person HE needed before he changed it to all of Hawkins. You wished but you knew it would encourage a conversation you weren’t ready to have. You had to remind yourself you’ve only known him for about 2 weeks. Not 2 years. And you also had to be okay with the thought that maybe… maybe he didn’t feel the same.
The silence was broken by Crys who sat her tray on the table. Greasy burgers and fries were still steaming from the kitchen. It distracted you from the fact that she only put down one chocolate shake.
“Yeah sorry about that, kids. There was only enough stuff to make one shake. But I brought two straws. I figured you wouldn’t mind.” She winked over at Eddie who returned the gesture with a blank face.
“Oh that’s alright. I can take a water and let Eddie have it.” You said, trying to ease the tension you felt from Eddie’s side of the booth.
“Nonsense, Y/N. I’ll just get a Dr. Pepper.” Eddie added.
“How about this… Share the shake and I’ll get you your other drinks. You are making this too complicated.” Crys rolled her eyes, annoyed that her little trick was spoiled.
As she left, you both looked at each other with wide eyes. A silent gesture seeing who would take the shake first.
“Well if you won’t, I will.” Eddie shrugged and grabbed the shake, putting his straw in it and taking a big sip. “Ahhh” he sighed and sat it back on the table.
“Well now I feel like I’m missing out, hand it over.” You replied, taking it and using your own straw to try it.
It really was a good chocolate milkshake.
“I see what you mean.” You took another sip. “This is one hell of a shake.”
Eddie laughed and began to eat his meal. You picked up your own burger and tried it. The sauce was the perfect touch along with the melted cheese and greasy patty. A diner masterpiece.
The meal was enjoyed in silence. Besides the back and forth sips on the milkshake and a loud slurping noise coming from Eddie, you both went back to being in your heads.
It took everything for Eddie not to think of this as a date. Especially when Crys pulled the milkshake trick. He’s seen her do it before. He would be lying if he said he didn’t think of it being a date before they even walked into the diner. He was careful with what he said and made sure to pay attention to see if any part of you was uncomfortable with the situation. All he could read on your face was contentment. Maybe it wouldn’t have to be said. Maybe you thought this was a date too. He would settle with a silent agreement.
“Well, it’s getting kinda late. I better take you back to your place before your dad burns me at the stake.” He laughed, digging into his pocket for his wallet.
“Wow I didn’t even think about the time. Yeah we should get going.” You also went to dig through your purse for some cash before Eddie jumped up and walked to the counter and gave Crys some money.
“I thought dinner was on the house. Now I feel bad. Here take thi-“ You went to give him some cash before he pushed your hand back and shook his head.
“Don’t worry about it. That was her tip anyways. Equals to the meals. Shall we?” He motioned to the door. You scooted out of the booth and walked toward the door.
“That was really nice of you.”
“The least I can do for all she’s done for me and my old man.” He smiled back toward you. “Bye Mrs. Crys, don’t work too hard.”
“Bye Eddie, tell your uncle to come see me sometime. I’ve missed his pretty face.” She stopped to greet a new customer who sat at the booth before acknowledging you. “Bye hon, it was nice to meet you. Welcome to Hawkins.”
“Thank you. It was nice meeting you!” You replied. You both began to leave and before the door shut, you heard Crys yell out “one chocolate milkshake coming up!”
Eddie opened the so-called broken door for you to hop into his van so you could head back toward your place. You had a gut feeling you might be in trouble for how late it was but also there was a part of you that didn’t care. This night was worth it.
The sound of the ignition starting pulled you out of your thoughts and you gave Eddie a big smile as he pushed the cassette back into the player. It began where it left off, a new song beginning. A gentle guitar solo crescendoed in which contrasted with the song that previously played.
The van pulled out of the parking lot and began down the dark road that was surrounded with trees. You remained quiet as Eddie began to sing along with the song.
“My name, it means nothing, my fortune is less. My future is shrouded in dark wilderness. Sunshine is far away. Clouds linger on. Everything I possessed, now they are gone. They are gone.” He sang under his breath, tapping the steering wheel like a drum.
This was probably your favorite version of Eddie. It made you happy when he would get lost in his music. It was a part of him, he didn’t even have to think about the lyrics or the pattern of the drums. He just knew it. All those hours he spent alone with headphones over his ears and his head stuck up next to a cassette player were shown on his face when a familiar song began. His whole body would relax. You couldn’t help but smile watching him as he drove down the empty road, singing mindlessly. You felt honored to know he felt comfortable revealing that side of himself to you.
“Like the view?” He finally spoke up, acknowledging your stare. The smile he gave you as he peered over was cocky.
“Yeah, actually.” You responded.
“Oh.” Is all he responded with a hint of surprise in his voice. He was thrown off by your honest answer.
“I like seeing this side of you.”
“What do you mean?” He asked, his voice softer than before. Eddie usually didn’t care what others thought of him, or so he told himself. Your opinion, however, was slowly becoming one of the most important ones.
“I’ve only seen you like this with your club and Mrs. Crys or Randy from the music store. Then around other people you try to act all- well the way you were around me when we first met.” He laughed.
“And that was?” He entertained.
“You were all ‘Hi I’m Edward Munson. Yeah I’m a freak so what- Social conformity, Devil this- that,I don’t care, Hey princess, don’t talk to me. I’m a pain in the ass.’” You said in a deeper voice, attempting to sound like the metalhead.
“Wow I really am a pain in the ass.” Eddie shook his head. “And I sound stupid.” He laughed along with your antics.
“Shut up, that’s what you were trying to be but that’s not the real you.”
“I was a pain in the ass though.” He restated. The van pulled into your driveway and he turned off the headlights as you both continued talking. You took off your seatbelt and shifted over to face Eddie more, him mirroring you.
“You were.”
“And now?” He leaned his head against the back of the chair as he looked at you with sincerity. The movement allowed the one light outside to shine right on his face, making his brown eyes shimmer slightly and his curls highlight the frame of his silhouette.
“Not anymore.” You smiled at him. “You are one of the only good things I look forward to since moving here.”
That statement alone was enough to make Eddie’s chest burst. He wasn’t used to being a person someone actually looked forward to seeing. Sure he had his little sheep who followed him around. They were growing on him; little Dustin began to feel like a little brother lately.
Sure his band depended on him. But man, it was different hearing you say that he was considered a good thing to look forward to.
“Oh- T-Thank you.” He started fidgeting with his rings.
“Seriously, Eddie. You have a big heart. You’ve managed to find all these people in Hawkins that feel misunderstood and make them feel seen. Those kids in your club look up to you. Crys, Randy, they care for you. That’s the real you.”
“Making me sound like some kind of hero.” He laughed, still looking down at his rings.
Without thinking you reached over and grabbed his hands to make him look up at you. The heat of his hands contrasted with your cold fingers. His wide eyes followed yours.
“You better believe me here, Munson. You’re a good guy. Take the compliment.” You leaned back over to your seat, letting go of his hand. The lack of heat suddenly becoming unbearable.
“Thank you, Y/N. It’s good to hear it sometimes.” He said, honesty laced in his voice.
“And what about me?” You smirked. Eddie smiled and looked away before looking back at you. “Am I who you thought I was? What’s your verdict?” The attempt to lighten the situation succeeded. His dramatic sigh reassured you.
“You are not who I thought you’d be. I saw they knew you and I wasn’t going to even give it a chance. But you’re not like them. I tried to stay away from you but you kept coming back.” He rolled his eyes, jokingly. “I was an idiot for trying to push you away in the beginning.”
“I thought you hated me.” You laughed.
"I didn't hate you.”
"No?"
"I was intimidated by you...never would I have thought a nice, pretty girl like you would want to be around me.”
oh.
Eddie waited for an answer. Surely he read the van properly. You both were being honest and well- he had to be honest with himself.
“I-“ a light flickered out of the corner of your eye. You glanced over to see a silhouette moving from your kitchen and the light flickered again revealing your father looking out. He was signaling you to come in. That gut feeling of this not ending well for you came back. “I gotta go.”
“Right… Here let me get the door.” Eddie jumped out, walking around the front of the car hoping his face didn’t reveal how he really felt. Discouraged by your response and the wonderful timing of your father. Nevertheless, he had to stick to the broken door story and now he was being watched. Your dad needed to know that Eddie was a good guy. So he’d show just that.
When Eddie shut the door, you used that time to groan and cover your face as you wanted to yell at how that scene played out. You know how Eddie might take that.
The door opened and Eddie gave you a small smile before walking next to you toward your door.
“You don’t have to walk me to my door, you know.”
“I know.” He shrugged.
“Thank you, Eddie.”
“For what?” He raised an eyebrow.
“For being you. I like being around you… more than you think.” You smiled at him before reaching up and giving him a small kiss on the cheek. “Goodnight, Eddie.”
The boy was frozen. He was replaying your small gesture over and over in his head as he stood on your porch. You kissed his cheek and he did nothing but stand there with his eyes wide as you opened your door and stepped inside. He should have pulled you in for a real kiss, maybe kiss your forehead. He could still feel the impression your lips made onto his cheek as he walked back to his car. A sense of comfort and relief laid over him as he drove back to his shared trailer with his uncle in complete silence.
You, however, had little time to replay what you did because the second you walked in, your dad cleared his throat from the kitchen.
“Hey dad.”
“Carver’s boy called the house about an hour ago concerned because you were supposed to go to some celebration dinner but didn’t show up with your ride. I expected you’d find a way home. I didn’t realize you’d come back very late in that boy’s van.”
“Dad, I promise I was in better hands-“
“I told you I don’t like you hanging around him.”
“I know but-“
“I know we just moved here and you’re having a difficult time with being new, but you are an influence on this church and I don’t want this falling back on you.”
There it was.
This sort of expectancy to act as if everyone was watching your every move. Well... they were. But why did that mean you'd have to stay away from the people that are socially unacceptable. It broke your heart that even your father, a man who use to claim everyone was capable of good, would sit here and tell you to stay away from someone. The people he praised were the exact people that needed to be exposed for their double life.
This was your biggest struggle when it came to your dad's profession and your own beliefs. Why was it that the good looking people with bad intentions always get the spotlight when there was people like Eddie who had no real intention of hurting or destroying anything? Why was he seen as someone to avoid, unworthy of change, judged? Why were people like Jason praised and seen as someone worthy of everyone's time and respect?
What was worse was the constant expectation that you, too, were to align with this. No, you didn't want to. Why did you have to walk away from a good friend in order to please those who had a better eye to the public? Wasn't that the exact opposite of what you were raised to do?
You wanted to walk away. Go up to your room and ignore this discussion. Bite your tongue and save it for another day. But you couldn't. Not when you just kissed the boy, who is claimed to be a bad influence, on the cheek. You chose him. He was your friend. Maybe you would be the first to actually stand up for him when others chose to do what was "right" and walk away.
"You don't want it to fall back on me? Or fall back on you, dad? Maybe my influence isn't such a bad thing. He's a good guy. I wish you would trust your daughter on this... not some pastor's son who is definitely not at a celebratory dinner right now." You left him with that as you turned away to walk up to your room.
You chose Eddie the second you left the lunch table that day, you weren't going to walk away from him now.

I got tagged by @belphegor1982 and almost forgot to do it because it got buried in notifications 😭 i"m sorryyyyyyy
3 ships : only three??? gee what a cruel question. I guess i will point towards my latest obsessions and shove the rest of the pile under my bed
Zoro/Sanji from One Piece. It's funny to come back to my teenage obsessions to see my taste in ships has drastically changed. I did not ship these two when i was 13 but i sure do now. They're the wings of the future Pirate King. They can't spend two minutes next to each other without trying to cave each other's skull in. They're each other's best friend and they will never admit it. They're a pragmatist/Idealist duo. They always disagree except on the essential. Also the idea of Sanji having to cope with the fact that he's attracted to a man is extremely funny to me.
Ghost/Soap from Call of Duty. My favourite war criminals<3 They're fun they're deadly they commit unspeakable acts on the daily. They nag each other on comms and probably had sex next to a corpse at least once. They're a piece of propaganda from the military industrial complex and i almost forgive them.
Gideon/Harrow from the Locked Tomb. I'm just starting with these two, only started reading Gideon the Ninth but oooooh god. They're obsessed with each other. They hate each other's guts. They want to climb each other so bad. They're a jock x goth pairing. They have witnessed the Horrors together hand in unlovable hand. I can't wait to see more of them.
First ship : Cobra and Kinana from Fairy Tail. The CHOKEHOLD these two had on 12yo me was insane. They were the reason I started reading fanfic (on ffnet at the time because the French fandom for Fairy Tail was insanely good over there). They're your typical edgy redempted villain x sweet girl on the hero's side. Except she was his snake for ten years. But don't worry about that.
I still love them SO MUCH for nostalgia alone (and for some scenes that I maintain were objectively good).
Last Song : the Chicago soundtrack but especially "All I Care About Is Love" and "When You're Good To Mama"
Last Movie : Chicago (2002) and it's a fucking banger but everyone knew that already. Sexy ladies, lies and jazz, what can i ask more??? here, have another gif
Currently watching : i'm kind of between shows at the moment, I watched netflix's live action One Piece and I know Call of Duty Modern Warfare III is coming next month so i'm living in my fanfic bubble not watching too many new things
Currently consuming : my own nose juice because i've got a cold i'm sick i can't breathe leave me alone
Currently craving : these.

I was tagged by @cchapsticck for WIP Wednesday.
As it happens, I was a little busy Wednesday with a minor dental emergency, the cause and aftermath of which put a bit of a crimp in my writing schedule. The result: the most recent thing I've written is what will likely be the ending/epilogue of Reveal the Yearning Desert. So instead of those spoilers, please accept the beginning of part two (which will hopefully go up some time next week)
It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks all striking thirteen couldn’t have made it any weirder.
It had been a shit day in what was turning out not to be his year afterall, and Eddie found himself in no state of mind to walk the fine line between causing pain and causing damage. So he left a note in Harrington’s locker, begging off their planned evening meeting and that should have been the end of it.
But these days Steve confounded Eddie’s expectations as often as he met them.
If he’d thought about it, Eddie would have predicted that fucking Steve Harrington would have brought an end to their occasional casual interactions. That Harrington would ignore him, stare right past him if they passed in the hall. If he’d been in a particularly pessimistic mood, he’d have predicted a certain amount of bullying. Harrington pushing Eddie into lockers as he passed, making his disdain obvious to all.
Eddie would never have guessed Harrington would have the balls to pretend nothing had changed. To ask Eddie for a light when he forgot his own. To laugh and roll his eyes when Eddie’s orations were particularly amusing. To talk down his teammates when one of Eddie’s anti-jock rants riled them up a little too much.
Still, such interactions were hardly direct conversation.
“Munson, hold up a second,” Harrington called, abandoning a scowling Carol Perkins to jog over. Eddie also wouldn’t have predicted Steve choosing the girl’s side in what had been the nastiest breakup to grace the halls of Hawkins High in living memory. Though he had, of course, managed the skillful social dance of remaining at least superficially friendly with Hagan as well.
“The Hair himself, deigning to speak to me?” Harrington smirked and steered them to an almost private stretch of hallway. Fully private now; the loiterers cleared off like they’d been given some signal. “And alone, too. What will everyone think?”
“That I’m buying.” A plausible excuse. Harrington wasn’t his most regular customer, but he did buy pot on occasion. Still paid for it, too, though without the rich asshole tax despite being both. “I got your note. Something came up?”
“Pretty self-explanatory.” It was as much of an explanation as Harrington needed.
“A good something? Or a bad something?” Harrington was trying to look him in the eye. Eddie fixed his gaze on a point over the other boy’s shoulder. “Because if-”
“Maybe I’m just not in the mood,” Eddie interrupted. He glanced quickly up and down the hall; no one was close enough to overhear. “I don’t have the energy. Not tonight, Josephine.”
It was a bit risqué for such a public locale, but it was perfect for getting Harrington to back off. With an eye roll, and a sure, whatever, Munson but Eddie was once again undisturbed in his misery.
#reveal the yearing desert#stranger things#steddie#my brain does seem to be coming back online#editing and reading resumed today#hopefully writing will resume this weekend

Ooh fun! @1lostsoul0fishbowl tagged me in this game...
Rules: Make a new post. No cheating! You’re starring in a movie with the last person you saved in your camera roll. The last song you’ve listened to is the title. Who/what is it?
Movie Title : Baby Came Home, starring our lovely Chrissy Cunningham/GVD
OOOHH! Maybe it's because I've been writing for a horror competish lately, or maybe it's because I love the idea of Chrissy coming back for her justified revenge, but here, Chrissy is the anti-hero protagonist trying to subvert the major horror trope of a "final girl". Quite the opposite, Chrissy is the first victim killed by the typical supernatural serial killer; Her last moments are full of despair, only to be resurrected for a second chance of revenge, with superhuman abilities rivaling the villain who killed her. With a murky past of abuse and trauma besides the man who murdered her in cold blood, she decides to punish the hidden predators in her small town, starting with the ones in her own home. The ones who betrayed her first. She closes the story chasing the killer to his bitter end.
Edit: I forgot to include MYSELF in this movie idea... I'll be the friend from cheer who takes her to the big jock party and tries to convince not to go into the woods alone 😂 I don't wanna be a victim of anyone's wrath
Did that get too dark?? I'm sorry I'll go back to my writing hobbit hole to finish this horror short story to get it out my system🙈
Here is @1lostsoul0fishbowl post which is WAY lighter and funny compared to mine if you need a happy palate cleanser :)
#movie tag#thanks for tagging me!#pearly tagged#horror tropes#horror movie imagine#horror movie#subverted final girl trope#losty yours was so much more fun than mine lol#chrissy cunningham

A Home for Broken Hearts ~ Chapter 3
Header by and co-written with @made-ofmemories
Hello, Darlings!!!
Here's the third chapter and the oficial beginning of the gallery!!
You'll see more Chrissy and Steve (we both believe that they could have been good friends) with some Steve and Eddie, oh yeah, should say it right now, this fic is kind of a slow burn :D
Just in case, about the notes they are leaving with the donations: The write the name of their ex The reason why they're no longer together The amount of time they were together, and the city they used to live in when they were together.
Enjoy! :3

Chapter 3: First Donations
Steve is greeted by a very smiley Chrissy when he turns up to Hellfire early Monday morning. She’s holding up what looks to be a green letterman jacket.
“I wanted to be the first to donate something,” She tells him excitedly.
They find a place for the jacket together. Chrissy knows this place better than him, so she does most of the work identifying spots where they could hang it where it’s not at risk of being damaged or moved by a construction worker. Steve just fusses over the placement of it, making sure it’s hanging right, that it’s visible.
Her joy fades into melancholy once they’re done.
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah, it’s just strange.” Her brow knits together, “I’ve been holding onto that thing since high school. Feels good to finally let it go.”
“Who was he?” Steve asks. The name inscribed onto the front of the jacket is Jason, given the fact it’s a letterman he’s assuming he was an athlete but that’s as far as Steve’s detective skills take him.
“Jason?” Steve nods, “He was my highschool boyfriend. He was captain of the basketball team, I was head of the cheer squad. I think the only reason we ever got together was because everyone expected us to. We dated on and off for a year and a half. Long story short, he turned out to be an asshole. I don’t even know why I kept his jacket for this long.”
“Assholes are the worst,” Steve says, he should know, he used to be one. That stereotypical asshole jock, not dissimilar to what Chrissy just described. He’s glad he changed, glad he was finally able to see sense.
“It wasn’t all bad though, if it wasn’t for Jason I never would have met Eddie.”
“Eddie seems like a good guy.”
“He is, he helped me break up with Jason, looked out for me when all my cheer friends turned on me. I don’t know what I would have done without him.”
“Are you two…” Steve trails off, regretting starting the sentence in the first place, but allowing his curiosity to get the better of him.
“We’re just friends. I’m not exactly his type.” She has a knowing smirk on her face and Steve pointedly looks away, not daring to make eye contact, “He had to work last night so he’s probably still sleeping right now. He’ll be back later though, which means we should probably get some work done before he shows up.”
“Would you mind if I…?” he trails off, taking his phone from his pocket. She looks at him in confusion until he mimics a camera.
"Take a picture? Not at all! It's for the social media you guys set up, right?"
"Yeah, Robin came up with the logo and all."
"That's great, please tag me when you post it, you can find me as Cunning_Chrissy on most social media."
"Will do, are you ready?"
"Yup." She moves to stand beside the jacket, he's about to take the photo when she asks him to wait, "I forgot to write something."
'Jason, left him for
Being a narrow-minded
asshole.
2 years, Indianapolis.'
They get to work once the photo is uploaded. Steve is tasked with the heavy lifting. Chrissy is a lot stronger than she looks and turns her hand to just about anything, but her official role is interior designer and occasional painter decorator and Steve is more than happy to leave her to it and stay out of her way.
He knows he’ll need to get another job at some point, his savings will only take him so far, but for now it’s enough to have something to focus on that doesn’t involve moping around the apartment wearing sweatpants and feeling sorry for himself all day. The company is nice too, Robin works 8 hour shifts and the apartment always feels so empty without her.
True to Chrissy’s word Eddie does show up a few hours later. Steve almost wipes him out with the wooden plank he’s moving, intended for the foundations of the stage, he has it hoisted up onto his shoulder and admittedly isn’t paying enough attention to his surroundings when he turns on his heel.
“Woah.” Eddie swerves out of the way, only just managing to save the tray of take-out coffee he’s carrying from spilling onto the floor, “Careful where you’re waving that thing.”
“Shit, sorry,” Steve apologizes, setting down the plank before he can do some real damage. Eddie doesn’t actually sound pissed, there’s an easy smile on his face as he plucks one of the coffees from its little cardboard holder.
“Wasn’t sure what you drank, you struck me as a latte kinda guy, but I’ve got an americano here if you prefer?”
“Latte is good,” Steve says, happy to accept the little paper cup that is handed to him. He’s never been fussy about coffee. Though he does draw the line at some of the sickly sweet concoctions Robin tries to get him to try that are more syrup than coffee.
Eddie takes a seat on the floor opposite him and Steve copies the action. He lowers himself to the ground and tucks his knees up to his chest, his toes pointing towards Eddie’s.The coffee is good, he takes another long sip and lets out a contented sigh.
“Has Chrissy been showing you the ropes?” Eddie asks, an attempt at idle conversation. Steve doesn’t mind, Eddie is easy to talk to.
“Yeah, it’s been a busy morning.”
“Sorry I couldn’t be here,” Eddie apologizes between sips of his own coffee, “I had to work last night. They gave me the closing shift, again.”
Steve nods, he gets it and Chrissy had already explained to him not that he was owed an explanation at all, he and Chrissy had been managing just fine without him but Steve’s still glad to have him around.
“I was wondering,” Steve blurts out after a beat of silence, “How did you end up with this place?”
“You mean how did a broke bartender afford all of this?” Eddie asks, one eyebrow cocked, with an accusatory glare aimed at Steve.
“No-I- I- not- I didn’t mean it like that,” Steve splutters and Eddie laughs.
“I’m just messing with you.” Eddie kicks out one of his feet which are tucked beneath him to nudge the side of Steve’s foot, “Wayne raised me, he's my uncle, best man I know. We never had much, but Wayne put aside whatever he could since I was a baby, before I even went to live with him. It was meant to be a college fund, when we realized college wasn’t going to happen he gave me the money anyway and told me to spend it on something important. Took me a while to figure out what to do with it, ended up buying this place a few years later.”
”So that’s how a broke bartender afforded this place,” Steve says as if he’s just made some great discovery. Eddie smiles into his coffee.
“Yeah, I also rent it out as gallery space to weirdos I pick up at work on occasion,” He jokes, “Doesn’t seem like a great earner so far though.”
“It will be, trust me. Just give it time,” Steve assures him, “Got our first donation today,” He nods towards the jacket he and Chrissy had hung earlier.
“Never thought I’d see that thing again, I can’t believe she kept it.” Eddie says, “She tell you about him?”
“Just that he was an asshole and that you helped her break up with him.”
“Asshole is an understatement,” Eddie scoffs, “The guy had it out for me even before I started hanging out with Chrissy.”
“Why you?”
Eddie shrugs and takes a sip of his coffee, “It may come as a surprise to you, but I wasn’t exactly popular in highschool,” He says sarcastically, “It was rough at first but by senior year most people just tried to ignore me. Bullies get tired real quick once you learn how to stand up for yourself. Jason never liked me though, I could tell. He was just waiting for an excuse to cause problems and I usually gave him one.”
That’s how it goes, you dare to wear the wrong clothes, get the wrong haircut, listen to the wrong music or have the wrong hobbies and suddenly you’re the outcast. He’s not proud to admit it, but had they met in highschool he probably would have been just another one of those judgemental assholes Eddie had to deal with. His ‘king Steve’ phase hadn’t been one of his finest moments. He’s glad that’s not him anymore, he can’t wrap his head around the concept of anyone disliking Eddie.
“Well, some good news, that asshole is the reason we just reached 200 followers,” Steve says, pulling his phone from his pocket and turning it so Eddie can see the screen.
There’s only two posts so far, the one Robin had posted on Saturday announcing the creation of the gallery and featuring the logo she had eventually decided on and then the photo Steve had uploaded a few hours ago of Jason’s jacket with Heidi’s scrunchy visible in the background.
“Damn! At Least he’s good for something.” It’s Chrissy, leaning over the stack of building materials Eddie is propped up against, he startles at the sound of her voice, twisting his neck to look at her.
“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Eddie asks, hand clenched over his chest. Chrissy rolls her eyes and ruffles his hair with the hand that isn’t holding her coffee cup.
“Stop being such a baby,” She chastises lightheartedly.
Steve pushes himself to his feet, thrusting his coffee into Eddie’s hand with a mumbled “Hold this.” As much as he would love to stay and watch their admittedly very amusing bickering, someone has just wandered through the front door looking lost and holding a tophat.
“Hey,” Steve greets, the woman turns to him with a definite hint of confusion on her face but now accompanied by a friendly smile, “Are you here for the gallery?”
“Yeah.” She nods.
“Well, you’re in the right place. I’m Steve.” He offers his hand for a quick handshake.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Emma.” She hesitates for a second before shaking his hand.
She’s probably mid 30’s if Steve had to guess, a little awkward, but he can’t blame her for that it’s not exactly a situation one finds themselves in everyday. He leads her over to the slowly growing collection of memorabilia and lets her decide where the tophat should go. He hands her a marker once they’ve found a spot for it.
She writes beside it:
‘Noah, said I was
a hindrance for his
broadway dreams.
3 years, Chicago’
“Thank you, I’m glad to be free of it. I really don’t know why I’ve been holding onto it for so long.” She says, looking lighter than she had just five minutes ago, “Maybe seeing the post on Instagram was the little push I needed to finally let go.”
“Glad to help.”
One picture of a smiling Emma standing beside her gallery donation for their social medias and a 5 dollar bill later and Steve is making his way back to Chrissy, Eddie and his now surely cold coffee.
“Boom!” He says dropping down so he’s cross legged opposite Eddie and slamming the 5 dollar bill down between them with maybe a little more enthusiasm than it warrants, “First official donation!”
Chrissy makes her way over and they share a highfive whilst Eddie shakes his head at them, a ghost of a smile threatening to break out across his features as he slips the money into his pocket.
"We might need a tip jar,” Chrissy comments.
“I think we have some empty paint buckets laying around.” Eddie offers.
“A paint bucket?” Steve makes a face, “I don’t know, sounds too crass.”
“Then, what would his majesty suggest?”
He resists the urge to roll his eyes at the nickname, it’s a little too reminiscent of ‘king Steve’ for his liking. Though maybe he had deserved it just a little, it had come across blunter than he intended, maybe a little snobbish.
“I might have something back at the apartment. Robin and I got this big jar from the artisan’s market last year.”
“ Is it blown glass?” Chrissy asks.
“I don’t think so, it’s a normal jar, just big. It was filled with jam.” He remembers it well, apricot and lavender, they had spent months eating jam and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. Robin insisted it was better than jelly, Steve couldn’t really tell the difference, but it had been quite pricey and he was determined to not waste a single drop of it, “I’m pretty sure she kept the jar. I’ll ask her and bring it around once it’s found.”
“In the meantime, come on,” Chrissy says, kicking Eddie’s thigh lightly with the side of her foot, “Coffee break’s over, let’s get back to work.”
Steve offers him a hand to help him stand up. He takes it, with a groan and two little hops Eddie’s up and standing much closer than Steve anticipated, their hands still clasped together when Eddie says, “Come on, big boy. Let’s work on that stage.”
‘Big boy’
The nickname echoes inside his head as he picks up the forgotten plank and mindlessly follows Eddie. He really needs to pull himself together, he just got dumped less than a week ago, he can’t do this so soon. This is just him making something small a big deal once again.
Just let it go Harrington, it’s just a nickname. He’d bulked up a little since he started going to the gym a few months ago, nothing crazy but even he had noticed he was looking quite… broad. Maybe it was about that, just a general observation. But then, wouldn’t that mean that Eddie has paid enough attention to his body to notice?
“Hey, Steve? I kinda need you to focus on the task at hand,” He comes back from his thoughts to Eddie waving a hand in front of his face, just like he had that first night at the bar, “I don’t think either of us want an accident involving a hammer and nails to happen.”
“No, yeah, you’re right. Sorry, I was just thinking about the last time I saw the jar.” Robin has told him time and time again how much he sucks at lying, but Eddie doesn’t really know him to realize that, so he hopes the little lie is believable enough.
“Don’t fret about it too much, we can figure something out if you guys can’t find it.” He’s holding a hammer and aligning the first nail, “Ha, we could get a blank piggy bank and paint it to the gallery’s theme.”
“A piggy bank covered with broken hearts? Pass, wouldn’t do that to a poor ceramic pig.”
“To the bar’s theme then! All red and black with paper mache little horns and all that.” He holds one hand up to his head making a little devil horn with his index finger for emphasis and sticking his tongue out.
“Jesus, that’s even worse!” Steve laughs, a full belly laugh.
“Yeah, maybe you’re right,” Eddie agrees with a chuckle and a smile so wide it makes Steve’s cheeks hurt just looking at it.
Steve finds himself pleasantly tired as he’s driving home. They had spent most of the day working on the stage, laying down the wooden foundations and taking the opportunity to get to know each other better. They only call it a day when Eddie has to leave for his shift at the bar.
Chrissy is kind with a surprisingly wicked sense of humor that practically mirrors Eddie’s. And Eddie… Eddie is just something else. He’s all unbound energy, funny, clever… passionate. He missed this, making friends his own age. Sure he will always have Robin, but it’s nice meeting new people. The city can be a lonely place sometimes, nothing like the close-knit small town he grew up in.
“No, that’ll be all. Okay, thank you,” Robin is speaking on the phone when he walks into the apartment. She hangs up before turning to greet him, “Hey, dingus.”
“Hey, you ordered takeout?” He asks, gesturing to the phone in her hand.
“Yeah, Thai. Got you your usual.”
“Thanks.” He drops his keys onto the table by the door and kicks off his shoes before he makes his way further into the apartment and drops down onto the couch next to Robin. The tv is on, playing ads that neither of them are paying attention to.
“How was spending all day with Eddie?”
“I was with Chrissy most of the day. She donated something to the gallery, said she wanted to be the first.”
“Oh, I saw it! The letterman jacket, right?”
“Yup, we got a public donation too. Eddie got there a few minutes before that with coffee. Did you know he bought the place with his college fund?” She shakes her head. He lets his head slump back against the couch cushion, thinking back over the conversation, “Maybe I should have invested in a business too,” He muses, talking as much to himself as he is Robin.
“Steve, with what money? You worked your ass off to cover community college and your teaching certificate and you won’t even touch the ‘this is the last you’ll see from us’ money even when we struggle to make rent.”
“And I never will.”
“See. Maybe you should save up and open your own bakery when you get tired of being surrounded by little munchkins all day. Your muffins and cakes are good.”
“We both know I’ll never get tired of teaching.”
“Yeah, I know, your mama bear instincts wouldn’t let you,” she teases.
“Ha.ha,” he says dryly, looking over to her with an unamused expression, "Maybe you’re onto something though, It’s not like I can find a school that’ll keep me around.”
“Hey, it’s okay, dingus. You’ll get there, you’ll see. You will land a school with your very own classroom and a hoard of munchkins and little assholes in the making to be guided by your caring teaching methods.”
“You make it sound so weird, Robs.” He screws up his face, she doesn’t seem phased.
“Well, whatever, you know what I mean.” She waves a hand between them then twists in her seat to face him, pulling her legs up onto the couch and wrapping her arms around her legs, knees tucked against her chest, “Now tell me more about your lovely day with Eddie.”
“What do you want me to say? I already told you everything.”
“I don’t know, what’s he like?”
“He’s nice I guess, bit of a dork.” He’s smiling fondly, remembering the way Eddie had called him ‘his majesty’ earlier, the over the top bow when he had been climbing into the van the first night they met.
“Uh-huh, how nice?” She’s got a meddling smirk on her face and Steve sighs. He knows that look.
“Robin, no.”
“Whatever do you mean?” She says, batting her eyelashes at him, all fake innocence and naivety.
“I know that tone and no, no funny business.” He says sternly, “We’ve talked about this, it’s a bad idea.”
“No, I mentioned it and you shut me down.”
“I barely know the guy.”
“Oh please, you’ve exchanged more words with him than with some of your other ‘nice’ guys.”
“Low blow, Buckley.”
“Look, I’m not suggesting you go jump into another relationship or start proposing marriage,” She explains, “I’m just saying, maybe it’ll be good for you to get back out there after the whole Heidi thing.”
“It’s only been 3 days.” He frowns, he didn’t think he had been acting that pathetic over it all, but if anyone was going to see past the bravado and see how torn up about it he actually was, it was going to be Robin, “I just need some time and I don’t want to make things awkward with Eddie either.”
“Can I ask you something?” She’s going to ask anyway no matter what his response.
“Shoot.”
“Did you think it would last? Between you and Heidi I mean.”
“I- I don’t know.” He thinks he knows the answer deep down, but it’s difficult to admit it to himself and even harder to say out loud, “I guess not.”
“I always thought she was kind of a bitch, you know.”
“Wow, tell me what you really think, Robs.” He laughs, the serious mood broken as Robin snorts out a laugh of her own and lets herself flop forward against Steve, her head coming to settle on his shoulder as she calms herself down, “Can we please talk about something other than my love life now?”
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I’ll drop it.” Steve cranes his neck and gives her a look, “For now. Seriously though you must have done more than just drink coffee and talk all day, how’s the gallery look?”
He shakes his head at her in disbelief, but there’s a smile tugging the corners of his mouth upwards. Always so nosey. She really isn’t going to let this drop until he’s given her every last detail.
“Well, considering the fact that the gallery consists of 4 items so far and that the bar is still a work in progress, it still looks like a construction site with some random stuff perched on a wall.”
“That's great. Maybe you can donate some more of your stuff, that whole feng shui thing of letting go of old stuff to get rid of negative energy or whatever.”
“Maybe. I’ll think about it.” Leaving behind that first trinket had felt good, but the thought of getting rid of more stuff makes him uneasy, “And since when are you into Feng shui?”
“Since I read an article about it last week.”
“Right.” It explains a lot, just the other day he’d poked his head into her room at the sound of furniture scraping against the floor and found her rearranging everything as much as she could in the tiny bedroom, ”Oh, do you remember that jam we got last year?”
“The apricot lavender one?” She asks, lifting her head from his shoulder briefly to look at him with a confused expression.
“That one, did we keep the jar?”
“Umm, I think so, we did try that whole ecological minimum waste lifestyle for a while. Why?”
“I just thought it could be used to keep the tips from the people that donate to the gallery.”
“That’s a good idea, I volunteer my art skills to make the jar look nice… when I find it.”
He hums a vague sound of agreement and settles into a more comfortable position, letting himself sink into the slightly lumpy couch cushions. Robin has the same idea, settling with her back against the arm rest and her feet in Steve’s lap.
“What’re we watching anyway?” he asks, turning his attention to the tv for the first time since he walked in and saw the ads playing.
“The golden girls.”
“Again?!”
“Shut up, you love Betty White,” Robin mumbles, her attention already lost to the episode he’s sure they’ve both seen at least 5 times. He doesn’t argue, but he does let out a heavy sigh, he can’t have her thinking she’s right all the time.
