Slay the Archivist (TMA and STP Crossover AU)

I haven't seen a fully fleshed out Magnus Archives and Slay the Princess Crossover, so as someone whose binged both, its my duty to create it.

Backstory

After the end of MAG200, Jon, Martin, Annabelle/the Web and some remnants of Jonah Magnus/Elias are shunted into the multiverse, and into a new world where they can spread their fear. Being exposed to the Fear Entities in such an upfront way that no other mortals have ever managed to achieve, Jon, as the Avatar of the Eye, is prioritized by the Fear Entities and proceeds to absorb them into his Avatarhood, basically becoming a God of Fear itself. While his old self and humanity isn’t completely gone, it’s certainly much more diluted amongst the new influx of power.

Annabelle of course, as the Avatar of the Web, which was once the Brain of the Fear Entities but has essentially been usurped by Jon, decides to trap him and Martin in a sort of pocket dimension. Both of them forget their names, and have their memories wiped, now convinced they are still working in the Institute and having no memory of their relationship. Using Jonah Magnus as a sort of puppet, Annabelle uses his voice to guide Martin into destroying Jon once and for all.

Speaking of, what is Martin in this case? Martin’s personal connection to the Lonely, Annabelle empowering him with the Web, and Jon subconsciously empowering him through the Eye means that Martin, like Jon, is empowered by multiple Fears, which gives him more of a chance to kill Jon then she does. Yet, Martin still retains his humanity for the most part and therefore Jon's power relates specifically to Martin's own fear, making him a sort of antithesis to Jon: If Jon is the God of The Things That Are Fear, then Martin is the God of The Things That Are Not Fear.

The Construct

Within the construct Annabelle created is essentially a dollhouse-like recreation of the Magnus Institute. Jon and Martin both are in the mindset of their season 1 selves, with Jon being distant and bitchy and Martin being insecure and a bit of a pushover. Both are actually Gods, but have no clue to their true natures.

Annabelle, using Elias’ voice, calls Martin to his office and demands he kills Jon in order to protect the world, taking the role of the Narrator to guide Martin into doing the job right. In the hallway is a knife on a desk, which Martin has the option to take or not.

Jon, being an Avatar of all of the Fears, now has an interesting caveat in that, depending on how Martin chooses to interact with him, his appearance and personality changes in tandem with what they are BOTH afraid of. Jon embodies a different Fear in every route, changing the more he and Martin butt heads.

Because of their godhood and the nature of the Construct, Martin and Jon can’t ever actually die, even if they kill each other; they’ll simply be shunted into a new chapter picking up from the previous one.

Blade VS No Blade

Much like STP, the "Player's" choices alter how Jon appears. If Martin takes the knife, Jon’s demeanor is more like his Season 2 self; paranoid, angry, distrustful and secretive. Without the knife, he acts more like his Season 1 self; incredulous and snobby.

How's Love's Labour's Lost? I heard some critics at the time said DT was much more suited to Berown than Hamlet lol. Well, maybe one critic idqr, but I read something to that effect.

On that point, reading up on those reviews from that time, it's kinda strange that a significant portion of mainstream coverage of DT's mid-Doctor Who RSC season was taken up by hack writers being pretentiously disdainful about "Doctor Who in Shakespeare". I remember reading an article in Sunday Times or Daily Mail, the writer clearly thought he was being super clever and treated DT as if he had no previous theatre career, including RSC. Like he's some fleeting US sitcom star who's never been to drama school, but wanted to star as Hamlet in the West End for some reason.

As someone who became a fan about 10 years after that, it was really odd. I was used to DT being treated as a respected veteran Shakespearean actor, even before I was a fan, by reputation. But here he was, mocked and doubted and treated like an outsider.

i expected going in that i would love his berowne and i did god bless <33 hamlet will always be The dt role for me (well. um. besides macbeth. my brain is still processing that) but this LLL was SOOOO much fun.. it was so much better than the 2015 one sorry like greg doran understood the assignment the play is so fucking unserious and the lords are the most "me and the boys" friend group of all time and this production was this to a T. i think i will make posts on all of the archive recordings i watched later (need to organize my notes. and my thoughts) but yea!!

i think maybe theater critics back then were killjoys and got really snobbish about the doctor who guy bringing lots more young people to the theater. because david having a solid background in shakespeare/the theater is something you'd know if you looked into the stuff he's done for like 5 seconds. like hghhbshghdfw free him from the people that do not know what the hell they are talking about. he thinks of stage acting as his day job do not forget this!!!

But also curious about what happens to Michael during the rest of the timeline, like post season 3 times. Does she stay in the archives or move on with her life? And then what happens to her after the Eyepocalypse, is she okay (can she be okay please I'll cry)?

thank you so much that is so sweet of you!! im glad you enjoy my evil machinations. also i apologize if any of this has weird grammar or anything, i just woke up and am eating breakfast as i write this. also grammar is hard and im jsut a silly little guy, have mercy on me and post season 3 timeline... well as I see it, theres a couple ways it could go, and I think I will ponder them all. why get 1 ending when i can show you the good and the bad and let you sit with it! :3 ok so i need to establish somethings first. 1) the way I explain michael shelley herself still existing after becoming the distortions vessel is her tether to the Eye. If she had not been so connected to Beholding through the archives contract, and by how long she worked down there (in my michael timeline she's been there since the like, 80s. she's the michael mentioned by eric or whatever, i like that version of events). So it has its claws in her deep, even as she's kept ignorant. She wants to know, she wants to dig... she's just also prevented from doing it. and 2) Yeah that contract is still in place. how? because its funnier if it is, and also she never did *die*. Michael Shelley was missing, but never really reported, and she never died while she was being used as a vessel. So michael only has a few options if she wants to be free of the archives. In no timeline does Michael die! She's OK-ish. also none of these are 100% planned out so itll mostly be sparknotes So the first option for her to take is stabbing out her eyes to get that contract broken right there. But heres the issue: who would Michael get help from? Suddenly becoming blind is not really a hurdle you can jump alone, at least not easily. And she has no home, really no physical ties to anything because everything she had is most likely gone/thrown out by now. It would leave her blind and homeless, i fear. Because the archive people are her friends sorta, but like... theyre still caught up in the archives, they're busy and stressed all the time. Plus, the eye stabby thing is only found out some while into season 4. so she's probably not taking that route

the second one is she stays at the archives (good timeline): Heres when I reveal CIau as a fix-it. In this timeline a few things are true (Tim is alive, Jon didn't get comaed, Martin doesn't go with Peter, tensions are generally lower, Daisy did get coffined, though. the Unknowing did happen it just went... Better). This obviously frustrates Elias greatly, but Michael is a powerhouse of pure spite and determination to thwart that son of a bitch. He *knew* what Gertrude did to assistants, and he didn't *care*. Getting him out of power is the closest thing Michael could get to revenge. And oh how she wants that, never forget she is angry at what was done to her- its a low, dormant anger, but it is anger. So they go about Season 4, but less loneliness sand misery. Michael is determined to live her life to the fullest and she's pulling everyone into it as well. Its a little awkward in the Archives, and nobody can fully heal while they're trapped but relationships are improving. Melanie's bullet is removed consentually, everything is "great" (jon probably still gets stabbed though, i think thats funny). Tim is even less... sad miserable tim. And really a lot of it is different because... well season 4 hinged on that loneliness and misery. So in between mandatory get-out-of-the-archvies days and shit like that, theyre trying to figure out how to get rid of the contracts. Maybe they burn it or something, maybe they throw elias into Helen and carve out his eyes- that'd be fun. But they get free, yippee, and so Michael can go about getting new papers n shit and everyone can heal. I'd like to think she gets like, a nice calm job. She and Jon definitively volunteer at an animal shelter on the weekends. Her, martin, and anyone else who wants to tag along have little tea hangouts. Her and Tim sit in amicable silence or go out on some sort of hike, depends on how they feel (Michael's back does not appreciate it sometimes but she tries her best to keep up with her friend). Her, Basira, Jon, and Georgie have a book club. Georgie is chill too!! She gets a cat named Private Pea (name courtesy of Jon) and all is vibing.

Now time for bad timeline: A few things are the same, a few are different (Tim is alive, Jon gets comaed (this one was more of an accident that deliberate of Tim, Tim feels bad about it), Daisy is coffined, Martin is pulled in with Peter though its much more of a struggle for Peter to *keep* him, tensions are lower for most of them (Melanie has a bullet in her leg so shes still angry), and Georgie is wary but they manage to communicate the situation to her better so she doesn't fully cut contact with Jon.) Things are rough for a while, since Jon is out for the count, but everyone makes do as they can. Tim feels Bad about what happened, but Michael makes sure to help Tim out and try to make him feel better. They're friends, your honor. Yadi yada Jon comes back, Melanie gets her bullet taken out, everyone misses Martin. The events here are much more in line with canon season 4. They're still trying to find a way to break contract, but with the concerns about Martin and Daisy- and Jon's whole humanity- they're lagging behind about that. Michael does cry when she hears Eric's tape, Jon makes sure to let her listen to it. Melanie stabs out her eyes, daisy is retrieved from the coffin (Jon still loses a few ribs bc he's... Jon and of course he'd do that still), etc. Helen's relationship with the main crew is a little odd, since Michael is around, but maybe they're at a tentative truce. Maybe they paint each other's nails as a peace offering. The final peter-elias confrontation happens, shit hits the fan in the archives with the hunters 'n everything. Helen shelters Michael and Tim (michael is more or less safe from the distortion's effects and just hold onto Tim really hard) but Daisy still goes Hunt mode etc. Martin is saved, he and Jon get sent off to the safehouse and all is quiet for a little while. Michael and Tim do their best to just exist, Basira is off looking for Daisy, Melanie and Georgie are at home, the stage is set. Maybe Tim and Michael were out of town on a little trip when the eyepocalypse starts. OK. so. Eyepocalypse. Michael is trapped in a spiral-esc domain. I think her position is fairly unique. Not an avatar but so heavily marked by the Spiral that even the domain is confused on whether or not she's in charge. Its torment either way, she feels as if she's back in that hell of being Michael. Tim's probably also stuck in a domain, probably stranger, and maybe a bit of desolation, though i don't know how that'd look. I think Tim is 100% afraid of losing everything he has again, of burning those bridges for good. and also clowns. I think when Jon makes it to that domain, it takes a moment for him to realize who's statement he's taking. And then Martin and Jon try to hunt her down a pull her out. They do! She doesn't even really need the "ceaseless watcher make this person into your little bitch" or whatever, because her existence is just that muddled. She just... gets pulled out and her position shifts from watched to watcher. They go hunt down Tim, and idk maybe with the help of Helen and Michael they manage to fish him out without him becoming an avatar was well. Maybe he does have to get ceaseless watchered, no idea. Then theyre back on track through the domains, now Jon, Martin, Michael, Tim, and a Helen sometimes. They make it to London, they meet up with the others, everything is generally the same. But instead of that jon-stabbing kurfuffle, they kill jonah and everything falls apart and boom its ok the world is normal. Maybe most of the world doesn't remember but its alright, Theyre free. and thusly it sorta picks up from there like how it did in the better timeline. But maybe with a lot more issues to work around and heal from. so um. yeah something like that. I dunno

Stray Kids RPF:

the book of us: electricity - Seungjin highschool au, they meet by chance on twitter during Seungmin's second to last year of highschool; just a very real down-to-earth story about teenagers, not knowing what the future holds and about not living the teenage dream; it also has a very eloquent writing style imo

pathos prairie - Minsung modern au, slice-of-life, in which Han has OCD and struggles with internalized homophobia, very down-to-earth, has a reoccurring them of the number 3 which ties in with the OCD plot, has its tender moments but also gets quite heavy

Merlin:

The Student Prince - modern university au with magic Merthur, where Merlin is the most powerful wizard of his generation and supposed to protect Arthur, but Arthur is also his roommate and really fucking annoying (I linked the podfic bc it's very lovely, but you can obviously also read it)

Dear Yuletide Writer 2024

Dear Yuletide Writer:

First off, thank you! I hope you are as excited about your assignment as I am to receive it. Hopefully the lateness of my Yuletide letter didn’t panic you too much! I enjoy a wide variety of fic, and these are truly some of my favorite canons, so really you can’t go wrong...but if you are looking for a spark of inspiration, I hope this letter provides it.  

General Likes/Dislikes: 

Things I love in a Yuletide fic: M/M, UST, hurt/comfort, banter, happy endings. When I look at the canons I chose, one consistent theme is that they all end on a note of hope, yet the characters I chose within these canons don't always get to experience that. I think, more than anything, what I would love to see is a chance for these characters to catch a glimmer of it for themselves (or for each other, in the canons where I've selected a pairing). 

Things I generally don’t like in a Yuletide fic: AU’s set outside of the canon setting (coffee shop, etc), MPREG, graphic gore, body horror, unhappy endings. That being said, if you have a wild idea that goes against these, these are definitely more loose guidelines than DNW’s.

Coldfire Trilogy

Damien Vryce/Gerald Tarrant Not sure if there will ever be a Yuletide where I don't request CFT fic. I do write frequently for this fandom, but just because I write in a certain style, please don’t restrict yourself to my “usual” topics. For this canon especially, I’m excited to read what you want to write.  I’m starting my millionth re-read of the trilogy, so I am excited to read anything set either during canon, or a post-canon fix-it. Give me all the banter. Give me all the UST. Give me Gerald Tarrant doing something kind (while doing mental gymnastics to justify it to himself as FOR SELFISH REASONS ONLY). Give me Damien forgetting to agonize over what GT is and just enjoying a moment with him (bonus points for him Prophet!fanboying). Give me physical contact of some sort between them, give me the soul bond! I ship these two hard, but I am happy to read pre-slash/gen.

Dimension20: Escape from the Bloodkeep

Leiland (Kraz-Thun) I watched Escape from the Bloodkeep 2 months ago(?) and once I was done, I immediately restarted it and watched the series again. Bloodkeep has some of my favorite Dropout cast characters, but of course it was Matt Mercer’s Leiland who stole the show for me. Someone on Reddit summed up Leiland as “All that dark power and regal lineage turned into a benny hill skit” and in response I can only say, that’s exactly why I’m here. I am happy with both pre and post-canon fic, gen or shippy (and not picky on ship). I’d really love to see Leiland navigate how to be Leiland, and not Kraz-Thun, and getting more comfortable in the “evil” found family he has created. Galfast Hamhead, while not requested, is of course 1000% welcome in any story.  Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (Ronin Warriors)

Shuten/Rajura

This was my first real fandom, well over two decades ago now, and Shuten/Rajura was my first ship. I definitely carried a binder plastered outside with the Masho chibi from Amanda Swiftgold’s page and stuffed to the brim with too much printed fic from Mink’s Yaoi Cake archive. This was a rare ship even then, and I am absolutely fine with gen, and fics that include all the Masho. I would of course love a fix-it fic, but I am open to exploring missing canon scenes also. I would enjoy a fic either from Rajura or Shuten’s perspective that grapples with their encounter out on the tracks, and that sprinkles in some of their shared complex history. Feel free to bend canon details in terms of what the armor enables. 

Uprooted

Solya/Marek These two have taken up residence in my brain and will not leave me alone. They truly enable each other in a way that is absolutely toxic, but I would love a fic that lets them attempt to do better by each other. I would prefer that Marek lives in your fic, whether that means exploring pre-canon events, or a missing scene during their story, and I would definitely enjoy a fix-it (just think of the hurt/comfort possibilities!) where they get to figure out their version of a happy ending. How do they navigate a world where they both wield less power? Would they be able to make their peace enough with that to carve out something new? Or would they chafe against that lack of power, and it would be that struggle that entwines them further?

How’s about 2, 3, 16, and 17?

Well, am I LATE in responding to this! Sorry, real life and my real ADHD brain came between me and answering these earlier. BUT I'M HERE NOW!! Shuffles through archive to find the actual questions so I can answer... 2. A headcanon you weren't sure about but have now come to like. Alien-genitalia Ahsoka. I've never minded the HC of Ahsoka being dual sex or having a penis at all, but my head used to spin at some of the ideas I read about. "What do you mean, she has a blue tendril?!?!" Now, I'm like, "c'mon, surprise me. Let's see what your imagination can cook up." Yes, I will continue to write my own Ahsoka as my vanilla genitalia, sorry guys. I never said I was the one with the imagination.

3. A character that fandom has helped you appreciate. Cali don't yell at me for this. Satine Kryze. I smashed through The Clone Wars whilst on a solo camping trip with my dog along the Australian eastern coastline last year. When it would get dark and the mosquitos would come out to play, my dog and I would retreat into my epic swag-tent in the back of my ute, and I'd watch TCW until I was ready to sleep. TBH I had come to TCW to learn more about Ahsoka and Bo-Katan having just met them in S2 of the Mandalorian. All the characters I then got to meet was a bonus SW education. Satine I enjoyed as a character, especially with her obvious modelling off Cate Blanchett's take on Queen Elizabeth I. But, I ended up rolling my eyes a bit at her being used as that trope of 'that tool to hurt Obi-Wan deeply but show he doesn't turn to the dark side'. Yes I still cried like a bitch when she died in his arms, but still. I'm sick of women being used as features to strengthen a man's story arc. It was through fandom *cough* the LesBo discord server *cough* that I learned to appreciate Satine more for her pacifism politics despite her own classic bubbling Mandalorian anger issues, as well as her deeply complex, tumultuous relationship with her younger sister, Bo-Katan. Satine, you deserved better, and I wish I appreciated you more in my first encounter with you. Time for a Clone Wars re-watch, I think.

16. A tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate. That the characters in SW grow up, grow old, and grow in and out of certain roles or stereotypes fandom like to place them in. I think it's that 'found family' doesn't need to represent the traditional Western family nucleus. I see so much of fandom calling Hera and Kanan the mum and dad of the Ghost crew, and I'm not saying that's wrong, but it doesn't allow the natural growth that characters are allowed to have as they get older. Or maybe more that, fandom doesn't allow the characters to grow out of that. Hera is a natural leader, and summarising it as 'mum' vibes does her an injustice, as people much older than her respect her leadership and follow her to hell and back because of her natural command presence, her compassion for the people she leads and her steadfast belief in their cause. People seem to forget that characters like Zeb or Mon Mothma, who are 15/20 years older than Hera, follow her lead in times of crisis or even just daily run-of-the-mill military operations. Hera was a runaway 18 year old girl with just her ship and her murderous droid verses the galaxy, and she ends up a General of the Rebellion/New Republic. That's more than mum vibes, that's BAMF vibes.

On the other side of the equation you have Sabine and Ezra, often depicted as Hera's 'children' in Rebels. Yet they become adults With only an 8 year age gap between Hera and Sabine, it's natural that Sabine would grow into more of a little-sister dynamic with Hera, which they try to show in the Ahsoka series with Jacen calling her 'Aunt Sabine'. But people seem to prefer still calling Sabine a 'girl-failure' of a kid rather than the traumatised, 30 year old adult woman with complex relationships she now is. Pigeon-holing characters into nuclear family roles I feel either permanently infantilizes some characters unfairly, or makes them the chronic 'mum/dad' characters that aren't allowed to be seen as fun, rule-breaking or sexy. The characters in SW grow up, are changed by their experiences, relationships and traumas, and I find that beautiful. I wish more people did too.

17. The thing in canon that everyone loves that you also love. Sabine Wren being an artist as well as a killing machine. It might be an odd thing for me to fixate on, but growing up in a left vs right political society, I was often ostracised for being in the military but also being queer, left-voting, a seamstress and creative. Apparently, two such components of my identity were not allowed to co-exist in the one person. So naturally, I found it a breath of fresh air seeing in Rebels, Sabine spray painting anti-Imperial graffiti on a wall one moment to shooting or blowing up bucketheads a moment later without blinking an eye. Her painted armour, literally bringing those two 'opposing' sides of her identity together that makes her who she is - love it so damn much.

Anyways, I've probably taken all these questions too seriously and have possibly also pissed off half of fandom with my take on these. But at least I've had fun doing so. 😂

Audio Drama Sunday - 30th July ✨

I'm also still obsessed with the Raven-Writing Desk dynamic and it's only going to get juicier when Mr Writing Desk actually wants to follow Penny’s demands… And Danielle!! I love that she still gets to be an active help in the mission to the North in a way that doesn’t feel like deus ex machina because it’s just her. 

🎞 Tiny Terrors (022) this episode had me yelling ‘what’s the catch?!?!?’ internally and I’ve just seen that the wait is over to listen to the other side of the tape!! Angela, what are you??

🌍 @lastechoespod (7) As some of you may know. . . I am a huge fan of Drs in Space. This episode had me gripped, those poor people 😭 What a cruel scare tactic from the Collected for that to be played to the people trying to decide whether to join. I’m so tense to hear what the final archival selection is going to be! 

🧛‍♂️ @re-dracula Things are TENSE aboard the Demeter. Even in <60s of audio, the creeping dread is so palpable. And Mina, sweet Mina! So thrilled to have her back! Listening rather than reading has makes it so much easier to parse the long, chunky sections describing Whitby!! I have high hopes that I'm going to stick with it to the very end this time.

 💫 Wolf 359 (24-32) Oh fuck. I am so glad I have all the episodes to listen to at once. I could NOT have dealt with the wait between seasons. Ep 30, Mayday, is possibly one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. I love that feeling of rooting for a character so hard that you forget that they don’t really exist and that you know they make it because there are another 30 eps of the show left. And the new characters - Kepler, Jacobi, Maxwell - wow, I LOVE to hate them. They’re fantastic in the worst way. 

🎩 @ethicstownpod (5) Things got a little creepy on the emergency broadcast this week. Memory is created as it is recalled?? What?? My mind is boggled. I’m very excited to hear how this, and what seems to be a growing discomfort between January and Artemis, plays out in the next episodes! 

🥾@doyoucopypod (3) Now. Hear me out. I know that being stuck up in a radio tower all day has got to be boring but I do think there might be a better time to flirt with your colleague than when 3 people are missing in a place called the ‘Dead Zone’ where strange ecological events are occurring . . . Just me?? Have I got the braincell here??? I’m so excited for these shenanigans to get even spookier. 

🏴‍☠️ Yeah. I listened to @levianpod again. What are you going to do? Support their crowdfunder? Good. Do it.

🎧 Such an interesting episode of The First Episode Of with @wirelandranch! The wireland vibes have always been immaculate and it’s so interesting to learn about where it came from and why it’s an amalgamation rather than a straight-up audio drama. 

🐬 Described as a weird mystery, @patterspod is exactly that. It’s batshit in the best possible way. Perhaps I hang out with strange people, but the main character is so normal in his weirdness, I feel like most people know a guy like Ryan even though Ryan is a liar ghostwriter trying to hunt down his thieving EX-boss with ?paranormal connections. It’s great stuff. 

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! My goal is to have season two of the show written by the start of August . . . So I should stop writing this and get to writing that . . . Right? Okay.

Secret? - Schmelly Fanfic (2/?)

“Mike, I forgot to ask you but I need to buy glue and cardboard for my Science class…” — Abby asks as she drags an unicorn plushie through the corridor, half-asleep at 8am, yawning as she realizes that Mike wasn’t alone in the couch, in fact, he was sleeping with his fingers intertwined Vanessa’s hair.

None of them were expecting this appearance, but time didn’t seem to pass when they were together, and they had never been this close. This time, they both woke up at the same time they heard Abby’s voice; their bodies could feel it was already awakening time, so it didn’t take much for them to process what they had just heard.

“Hi, Abby”, Vanessa said as she smiled at her. Mike’s brain was still on loading screen.

“…why were you hugging each other?”

“Good morning, A-Abs, do you need somet—“ Mike tries to quickly undo his arm-tie around Vanessa’s shoulders, in vain. “…you guys are acting like boyfriend and girlfriend. EW” — Abby says as she pretends to be grossed out.

“What did you say about something class something? Listen, I’ll get you everything you need but you didn’t need to wake me up to that…” he says as he yawns, kind of blushed because of what his sister just asked, and regretting not had been faster “…and we just ended up sleeping here, nothing like what you’re thinking. Don’t do that, Abby, it’s rude. Right, Vanessa?”

“We’ll help you as soon as we have breakfast, okay, dear?” Vanessa completely ignores Mike’s try at defending themselves, as if the thought of them being, in fact, a couple, wouldn’t bother her at all. “Come join us, Mr Unicorn is also invited” — says the officer as she winks discreetly at Michael, that reciprocates by smiling, a little shy.

“Okay, thank you. But it’s actually MISS Unicorn, and her name is Rainbow.” Abby jumps at the couch, accidentally stepping on her brother’s leg, which leaves to an “ABBY, MY LEG OUCH”. Although it kind of hurts at the moment, Mike jokes: “We don’t need another injured person, Abby, or are you gonna take care of me if you hurt my leg??”. All of them laugh. Vanessa even had forgot about her sore stomach. Mike had been such a nurse to her; he would never forget the pill time or to change the band aids. He had to learn how to take care of her sister since their parents passing, so he was surprisingly good at first aids and stuff, he even had a little medicine box in case they ever needed something.

They were always used to running short on money, but health is something that Mike would always prioritize, especially if it was regarding to his sister’s. He’s the type of person that would stay with a broken arm, but if Abby papercut her finger, he would come back from work just to make sure she was safe. He promised himself he would pay all the attention that he didn’t on the day Garrett was took. He blammed himself everyday for it and, deep down, he knew everyone blammed himself, including his parents and family, although they’d deny if asked about it.

And with Vanessa, it wouldn’t be different. He didn’t have any relatives besides Abby, so she literally is his family. And now, Vanessa too. At least, while she’d stay in his house, he’d consider her as a responsibility of his. But he didn’t like to consider a future where she just leaves. Now that William is gone, Vanessa’s situation is very similar to Mike’s, except that she doesn’t have even a little sibling. It’s just her, herself, and she. Surely she had a comfortable life because of her job, but you could say that the only stable aspect was the financial. She’s just as traumatized as Mike is, or even more.

After around 30 minutes of family cuddling, they decide it’s breakfast time. Mike’s frying eggs and bacon while listening to the radio; music is one of the few pleasures he allows himself to have. He’s more of a rock guy, but in general enjoys all kind of songs. Even pop, although it’s only when he’s with Abby.

“Thriller” by Michael Jackson starts playing on the radio. Vanessa, which is at the table with Abby, says she loves this song — it reminds of when she was a little kid and would listen to it with her father, albeit she doesn’t mention this part. William might be a serial killer, and a monster, but he’s a man of culture. “The music video gives me chills, but the song is pretty fun” Abby says as she trembles her hands to indicate fear. “…did you know my brother knows some of the choreography??” she tickles to him, that responds with “Yes, but don’t mention it” afraid Abby might ask him to demonstrate it

“Oh my God. This one I would pay to see!” Vanessa declares, unbelieving. “By the way, I might have forgotten a lot of things but I still remember very clearly that you owe me a dance, Mr Schimdt” she says in a kind of flirty but also oblivious way. She knows Mike knows what she’s talking about, and that by referring to him like that, he would feel things.

“Dance! Dance! Dance!” — Abby starts shouting in a rhythm contagious enough to make Vanessa join her. “HA. HA. HA. Nice try, not today though. So you two decided to team up against me? I guess I’ll just have to bring Cassidy here so we can have a fair girl-woman and boy-man competition, because you’re clearly praying for my downfall” he says as he points two fingers at his own eyes and then at them, as in a “I’m watching out” way.

Mike finishes preparing the food, and is now serving his sister and his… his what? Colleague? Roommate? Friend? Were they ever friends? Anyway, he displays three plates with two eggs and one piece of bacon each, in a way that resembles a smiley face. “Besides your cooperation to embarass me, that’s how you two make me feel.” he says gently. “Aww”, say Vanessa and Abby at the same time, but the woman completes with “That’s also how you make us feel, Mike. Thank you for everything.”

“About the cardboard thing, Abby, do you really need it for today or is it okay if we buy it tomorrow?” — suddenly Vanessa reminds of what woke them up this morning.

“Today we’re going to watch a movie at school, so it’s ok if we buy it tomorrow, Nessa. I hope we watch Shrek, it’s my favorite movie” — Abby responds. She really likes Shrek, she has watched it over 10 times and never gets tired of it. At this point, Mike’s even memorized half the dialogues.

“That’s great, so what about we give your brother some peace of mind and we go to the store on our own? We can have a girls-only shopping!”

“Yes!!! I’m in” — the little girl isn’t used to going out with anyone that isn’t Mike, and she kind of misses having a mother figure. Of course she was going to accept it.

“That sounds great, I’ll go to the laundromat while you two have fun, just don’t gossip about me, okay?” — although Mike enjoys taking care of Vanessa, he was really needing some time alone, for himself and his thoughts. Socializing can be rather tiring sometimes, especially for him; he’s not very used to it, since he doesn’t have many friends and people are usually rude to him. Few are the people that he actually enjoys spending time with. And they were going stationery shopping together the next day.

“Then you’d be taking the best part away from us” — Vanessa says, trying to provoke him. She loved to do that, and he’d never be actually bothered by it. Both of them liked the tension when they did this, although Mike rarely was the one to start it.

“Don’t worry, Mike. I won’t tell her your secret.” — Abby joins Vanessa. “Secret? There’s a secret? Hmmm… Now that you’ve started, Abby, you’re gonna have to say it, but I can wait till tomorrow” it interests Vanessa, but deep down she’s just playing along to see Mike’s reaction.

“Abby. Don’t make things up.” — he does have secrets, but none of them was once shared with his sister. There are some things, most of the things, by the way, that he keeps to himself. So his sister was likely joking, but it worries him a little. What was she up to?

A Welcome Letter

Greetings to whoever is reading this,

I am known as The Pen, death by being Caesar'd with pens, and the owner of this Tumblr blog. Yes, “The Pen” is not my real name - it was just one of my pseudonyms. But nobody needs to know my real name and my other pseudonyms :)

Anyway, now that you have stumbled upon here and wanted to know what to expect from me, here are some things you can jot down!

1. I am an everything enthusiast.

This is a fancy way to say that my content is very inconsistent. Most of the time, I brainrot over Greek gods and heroes and everything in between, especially Apollo and Hyacinthus. I'm also interested in other mythological pantheons or non-mythology topics, which you'll come to see.

But my hyperfixation of something does not make me an expert. Everything you see on my blog should only prompt you to learn more about the “new thing” I just discovered, not accept it as a fact right away. I might be wrong. I might be missing something. I have a lot to dig through, and so do you.

2. I am a professional shitposter.

If the discoveries are too complicated and must be written in an essay with the 1000 words minimum to fully explain them, fear not! I cannot write lengthy analyses without my pea-size brain exploding, so I will make them into memes to be more digestible.

Other than that, I will be writing incorrect quotes, doodling fanarts, and cooking other shitposts and shenanigans for no reason at all!

3. I am an amateur writer.

If the incorrect quotes are too long, I will write them into oneshots, long stories, or even series. I'm trying to improve my weird grammar and wording because English is not my first language, but I promise nothing.

(Same anon) As someone who's been in multiple fandoms for years, art-styles that are semi-similar or are extremely different from the source material pretty much comes with the package. It can be very fun at times. (Franchises with very simplistic designs seem more prone to it)

That's something I've noticed with fandom when it comes *CG series, unless there's 2D content or some concept art floating around somewhere, fans seem to have a harder time translating the characters into drawings. (With Jimmy, it's mainly just him you can find this stuff on. The rest of the cast you kinda have to wing it. For such a big show, character refs is surprisingly scarce. And some promo stuff being lost to time.)

*nods* Yeah, crossovers can be cool. Nick and CN had plenty of official bumpers that was just characters mingling with each other outside of shows. (But when it comes down to the shows individually, Jimmy unfortunately has been holding the short{hehe} end of the stick for quite a while now if we're talking just the OG Unite gang. Both official and fan stuff. Planet Sheen left a big sour taste.)

(*Probably why I'm adamant that if the show ever came back, I rather it stayed CG. Not because I think 2D would be bad or an ironic twist that the 3D show comes back in 2D while its sister 2D show{FOP} had came back in 3D, but the sheer fact that it was Jimmy's identity. The fact that people were blown away by the animation from that one car commercial that came out a year after the show ended, imagine what they can do now without the technological limitations.)

Ah yes, classic fandom meme “Original artstyle: 0.0 Fanart: *damn Rembrandt ass painting*" Not gonna lie, I'm a huge fan of this, give me two and don't forget the cheese sauce!

But yes, this show has some incredible amount of content that can be considered almost lost media of a kind. The huge amount of official fanfiction promotional materials, comics, illustrated books and other things released on the prime of the series is almost impossible to find completely on the Internet. I still occasionally dive into the Internet archive or through old forums to see if I can find a new one piece lol

Yeah, I can kind of see it. If I recall the 3D show fandoms I've encountered, they all really either have official 2D concepts that influenced general "fandom art style", or a huge fan base that chews it up for you *cough* Miraculous *cough* and you don't have to think about it much because you get it ready on a plate from more skilled people in this regard lol

It's not a stick anymore, it's almost a broken twig “No.. No Not You Seamus” (this franchise is like a middle child who was abandoned in the mall as soon as he turned 18 and their parents have already replaced the locks in the 3 hours they were walking home)

Oh Planet Sheen... 🚬... I haven't heard this name for a while...

The only good thing I got out of it was the headcanon that it was a Sheen's self-insert fanfic, because if you say that Sheen didn't make a poorly written self-insert fanfics you're lying to yourself lol (I like to joke that the failure of Planet Sheen scared Nick's tops so much that they hid everything related to the show in a separate room in the office and it haunts the CEO like a cryptid lol)

Although the story behind its creation is kind of sad, because it was never meant to be like this, not even being part of JN, and was just forced into one mass of a show. (didn't even allow them to add Carl, so they had to use an artificial substitute, for me, is telling something)

I damn sure agree with you!! And this is coming from a person who loves 2D animation much more than 3D lol (although I also love stylized 3D, it's such a blend of different dimensions that I just drown in it) I don't know if anyone would like to go a little more in the stylized 3D direction, mostly because I have no idea what it would look like in my 2D brain lol, but I'd be interested to see it

BUT I will always be more worried not so much about the style of animation as about who will be responsible for this animation. Because we can get both Trollhunters and Miraculous post S1, it's a gamble of budget and effort lol

shit, there’s. something to be said there about how you can’t just force someone to give you all of them, and how it’s a question; you have to ask someone to take your hand

and there’s been entire meta posts before the side story’s release wherein you can have a happy ending, you just have to. be willing to believe in it, just like hands can be offered to you but you still have to take it

and they were offered two different endings; one where kim dokja came back and one where they chose not to

so what does it mean when han sooyoung forgets that you have to ask, and not force it to happen? what happens when you try to make your loved ones do something supposedly for their sake, and not for yours?

because it’s frustrating that some of kim dokja’s fragments can’t let themself think of a happy ending, yeah, but. that’s still a part of kim dokja. that’s still a fragment that had their own hopes and dreams. and in this story where han sooyoung is trying to force an ending so that kim dokja would stop reading, so that he’d finally return… hurting the fragments in the process…

hahah, isn’t it funny that lee hakhyun ends up sacrificing himself for the other fragments, too? isn’t it. isn’t it funny

on one hand, my entire brain is going ‘but… but lee hakhyun existed before orv was ever released…’ but on the other hand my head is going ‘no, no, no, it makes s e n s e . star writer had nothing to do with orv before the side story. keyword being HAD’. so lee hakhyun had nothing to do with kim dokja since he was from a story from before orv even existed, but now he DOES have something to do with orv because now he’s 49. and 49 in fact… ah.

49 was, in orv itself, the part of kdj that remembered everything kimcom adored while retaining nothing of his own preferences,,,, it was also the part that was divorced from kdj’s self-destructive and self-hating tendencies, too? so it makes sense that lee hakhyun found himself loving kim dokja’s story and growing close to jung heewon even though he wishes he could be his own person - and. and he is, now, i personally believe, honestly. kdj fragment is a shorthand for ‘reader’, and there’s quite literally no avoiding being a ‘reader’ even though you aren’t necessarily KIM reader

and. 49’s story was forgotten in the chaotic tumble of trying to get the missing part of him back, so… a. another point for the ‘forgotten stories’,,,,,,

... oh god.

i can understand why they go so far for kim dokja but also, everything is just going wrong han sooyoung, choosing to play the villain. and lee hakhyun, giving his everything to protect the story and that line in 615, as hsy sees lhh dying

singshong is here to hurt all of their characters. no one is spared. and on lee hakhyun. yeah. lee hakhyun HAD his own story, but it was discontinued. and then he ends up in orv. i'm exploding

So Lassi was initially a convict judged by Deirdre. He didn't die to end up in hell, he was just involved in a convoluted, slightly occult mess in order to pay off all his debts and they took advantage of the fact that he was a demon. He was sentenced to the Pride district as a regular worker instead of a doomed soul, which explains how he was able to ascend the corporate ladder (which souls Do not.)

I think this probably describes their early dynamic adequately

There's also this that I drew a few years ago tackling the development of their dynamic :)

So, yeah, he wasn't doing the best initially. He came in there at the lowest point of his life and it took a good while to bounce back from it, but he fortunately got a good deal by being assigned under Delilah. That, and he proved himself a useful seeing eye bird, which gave him the initial leg up in changing positions and getting into better graces with Delilah. Obviously by that point he'd gotten more tolerable bc accessibility or not Delilah isn't having some fuckass read her shit lol

It started out as Lassi vitriolically hating her on principle, then mellowed out into them being quippy with each other and him just generally being sarcastic and mean humored but like, appreciating her as a person despite it all.

Delilah meanwhile started out as apathetically strict towards him which turned into humoring his shitty quips and quipping back since. She happens to be quite fine at doing that <3 mind you Lassi was still going through Most of the Shit during this time so they did have their rocky moments, mostly. Due to him. He would lash out at her or just act particularly distant and snappy during bad times and sometimes skip work unannounced

With all this they also slowly progressed to what I could call their Parasocial era as Lassi slowly started getting better (eventually) and also Delilah started caring for his wellbeing outside of just having a functional worker at her hands. She tries to keep herself distant which is why Lassi struggled to work with her during his worse periods but she also became sort of a rock for him in hard times and remained as cool and respectful as she usually was, which to his affection deprived brain felt pretty good all things considered.

He did become way too clingy and perhaps obsessive over her at a certain point, which has. Umm somewhat fizzled off these days as he's becoming a more well adjusted person. But during this time in particular well, ykno, I call it parasocial because it is. He often acted entitled to her time and attention and may have also acted a little embarrassing about her in proximity of the other workers, which nobody has allowed him to forget, unfortunately..........

Still, they got better. He slowly stabilized himself and they fell into a good relationship where they worked with each other as people and kept some semblance of professional (and personal tbh) boundaries alot better. He somewhat tried to distance himself from her emotionally but I can't say how well that's worked, he still semi views Delilah as a godless savior figure and considers her to know him the best out of. Almost anyone. He admires her to hell and back and ykno, I guess that just happens in a situation like this.

She has felt uncomfortable by him in the past but their relations have been repaired and she knows she can get a grip on him if things were to get worse at any point. They do have conflict sometimes but he's deeply committed to being someone she can rely on, especially considering the disabilities aid aspect and whatnot. It was still very satisfying following along to his development and I'd confidently say despite the Uhh

Rocky political climate in their setting. Currently.

Maybe it's just that Lassi vomited out all his issues and emotions way too hard way too much so he also had the chance to. Work through them more, whereas Delilah has stayed somewhat stagnant over this time. She tends to keep a wall around herself and thusly when she was feeling tested about Lassi related. Things. She withdrew from him and dealt with her emotions alone. Granted, she did sometimes lash out at him too but it was always cut very short considering she is A Giant Demon with like 10000 to 10 on health points compared to Lassi so. She keeps strict.

Alright I'll admit i haven't posted here in a while, mainly due to thr fact that bluesky has taken up my attention for a moment

But I desire to post a long, rambly ass blog about how I've regained the desire to write

All because of fucking metroid of all things.

If this is your kind of shit, read on ahead, cause I'm about to go on an autistic tangent on Metroid again

SO.

Metroid.

God dammit this franchise keeps finding a way to worm itself back into my brain no matter what I do.

I've gone on tangents about a lot of things on this Tumblr account - Lisa the Painful, Undertale, maybe Hollow Knight if you follow for the reblogs, but Metroid has always stuck with me for ages. I've always been one to fantasize on the wild galactic span of Metroid's world building, Samus fucking shit up, and also her somber jaunts through exotic nature and old ruins of Chozo civilization and beyond.

Recently, I've had the desire to finally sit my ass down and put those thoughts to paper - or I guess, really to screen considering I use Google docs to archive my writings, and god damn.

Granted, I ain't the beat writer, not by a long shot, and I haven't felt the desire to write for nearly 6 years (burn out is a hell of a thing, ladies, gentlemen and enbies) and fuck, I really gotta hand it to Metroid:

Its got something that's hard to really put into words for me. It's more like an emotional connection if anything - though less in the "HOLY SHIT I LOVE YOU SAMUS ARAN" kinda vibe and more the "HOLY SHIT THIS WORLDBUILDING KICKS ASS" kinda vibe.

Its especially been the case ever since Dread came out.

Lemme paint you all a picture using the skill I know best: writing out a scene.

Baby speedweed wasn't much into anything apart from being an autistic little shit, the only things he was into was his Nintendo 64, maybe some very early internet access (worst mistake of his fucking life) and faffin about innawoods. That's when this little mother fucker got a GameCube bundled with Metroid Prime.

Experiencing Metroid Prime on release wasn't something that was really possible as a little guy, especially considering this was the first Metroid game ever played, but something about it struck deep. Sure for a seven year old it wasn't much but the electronic synths of the music, the rainy wetland of the landing site, the dust-covered Chozo Ruins, and especially the writing...

There was something special about it, about the way the story was told about a race of bird folk that had split off from their main tribe, established a home on Tallon IV, and sought to be at one with nature to the point that they find spiritual peace and ascended beyond the physical plain of existence.

Obviously that peace didn't last, and you see that slow downfall, the SNAP BACK TO REALITY as Phazon makes landfall and starts corrupting not just the physical planet but even the spiritually ascended Chozo. You read these attempts at stemming the Great Poison, the Space Pirates desecrating the ruins and graves of these Chozo, and eventually they dream of a warrior donning their ancestral armor and weaponry coming down to stop this radioactive cancer once and for all.

Exploring Metroid Prime right down to the Impact Crater sticks to you, especially at that age, and after beating it and witnessing that 100% completion ending it leaves you hooked.

Metroid Prime 2 doubles down on that (even though I never finished it as a kid simply because my little dumbass couldn't figure out the keyhunt trek compared to Prime 1) with the story of the Luminoth, their struggle against the Ing, and the stark difference between Aether and its darker counterpart.

Oh, who could forget Dark Samus too?

Yes, sure nowadays her textures are very much dated but God damn, seeing this organic thing mimicking Samus' Varia Suit - from the way her armcannon looked to the overall weird, organic figure, the integrated visor and even the way it processed Phazon, it was all fascinating. That grew over the course of the game and the scan logs about her as well, especially considering the fact that despite being this Varia suit-shaped organism it still had those Varia Suit mechanics - an energy shield, super missile combos and what not, but also its own unique attacks like a scattershot phazon beam, turning into this ball of energy that shoots through containment tanks like a pseudo shinespark, and in her second fight she even had a boost ball attack and a concentrated phazon beam.

Little speedweed was hooked, this little mother fucker couldn't get enough of it, and that's when he hit Metroid Fusion...

Aaaaand granted, that didn't hold his attention for long, it still left a mark that will contribute to this love of metroid.

Now of course as this little shit grew into a big shit, that autism of his drifted onto other things

Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 became a part of his life and he got into HL2RP (SECOND WORST MISTAKE OF HIS FUCKING LIFE), And then mother fucking undertale came out

That shit fucked him up for a decade at most even after he bailed outta the Fandom early on in 2016 or so

Time goes on, shit changed, and big speedweed still goes on about metroid - but it's taken a back seat compared to the usual things like sonic, undertale, deltarune, Team Fortress 2 and the likes

And then Metroid Dread is announced.

I cannot begin to tell you how important Metroid Dread was, not just for me, but the entire metroid community as a whole.

Twenty fucking years, from the day we've heard interviews of it through Sakamoto, to the teaser in Metroid Prime 3, its supposed cancelation and more.

A metroid fan knew what Metroid Dread was before the actual game was even shown off, but it was nothing more than a myth, some urban legend on the wayside, a desire that slowly faded away as the years went on and the second greatest drought of Metroid content went on. Even as Other M and Fed Force came out, that desire to continue the storyline left off in fusion was still there.

And then the direct comes out

And you see Samus drop in her new suit

And then you see that fucking title

You see the trailer play out for that one moment as she's caught by the EMMI, and it throws out that face spike

And there it is again

I couldn't stop talking about metroid for the fucking life of me. Years and years of memorizing lore flood right on back as I annoy the shit outta my homies with word walls of lore

Then the game leaked and I said fuck it, I already pre-ordered it, might as well play it a week early on my shitass PC

It was a fucking experience

And from beginning to end I enjoyed every single second of it, especially with this bird bastard, Raven Beak

God damn, the Triple combo of Raven Beak's reveal, the fucking plot-twist towards the end of him not only masking himself as Adam this whole time but also being Samus' THIRD BIRD DAD (estranged of course), and then learning that the chozo runes COULD ACTUALLY BE FUCKING TRANSLATED

THE CHOZO HAD THEIR OWN LANGUAGE DUDE. THAT SHIT COULD BE TRANSLATED TOO. THEIR OWN WRITING AS WELL AS THEIR OWN SPEAKING LANGUAGE

AND THEN SAMUS EVOLVED

HER METROID DNA, THE SHIT WE KNEW ABOUT SINCE FUSION, TURNED HER INTO A FUCKING HUMANOID METROID

AND SHE JUST GOUGED RAVEN BEAK'S FUCKING EYE OUT DRAINING NOT ONLY HIS SHIT BUT HIS GOD DAMN FRIGATE TOO

This has settled into my noggin for the longest time. I haven't experienced shit like this in so long that it felt like I got combo's by Kazuya in a game of Tekken 7.

What's funny too was that this still didn't really Kickstart my desire to write until the fucking invasive imaginings of the entire metroid franchise became too powerful.

I'm talking Samus exploring the fact she is literally The LAST Metroid in the galaxy, uncontained, having just thoroughly wrecked the shit of not only one of the last living Chozo in the galaxy, but another X-Parasite outbreak too, what that could mean with her and the Federation (as at this point she is several hydrogen bombs compared to the coughing baby of the galaxy, the Federation included), what the fuck Exelon Star Corp is cooking with near-indestrutable robots like the EMMI, the Mawkin Sniper figure in the distance of one of those Mawkin memoriee

And THEN

MOTHER FUCKING METROID PRIME 4 GETS ITS TRAILER OUT NOT ONLY SHOWING AN ACTUAL STAR DATE TAKING PLACE 2 YEARS AFTER SUPER (This is where my metroid autism really takes hold, if you guys don't know I'd recommend looking up the star dates, they have questionable canonicity considering the only time they were ever brought up through commercial stuff like magazines and articles in Nintendo Power, but this was a FIRST WE'D SEE THIS SHIT ACTUALLY BEING USED IN A METROID GAME)

OH, YEAH, SYLUX IS BACK TOO, AND HE HAS FUCKING MOCKTROIDS

I think it's safe to say, combined with listening to Ian Flynn's own ramblings on Sonic, Sonic lore and his takes on writing I have found the insane desire to write this shit out now.

I cannot be stopped, I want to explore the FFFFUCK outta this galaxy now. Even with shit like my Lisa the Painful and Deltarune hyperfixations, Metroid has found a way to claw itself back into the forefront of my brain and I'm all for it.

Eventually I'll see to it that this gets published, either a link here on my Tumblr or on Bluesky, but God.

I hope this can at least inspire anyone that reads this to find their passion in creating something, whether it's writing or drawing, 3D modeling or animating, whatever it is you do as a passion, I really hope this helps in reassuring you that burn out doesn't last forever.

I mean it did take about 6 years (honestly maybe 4 if I wanna be generous) but God mother fucking damn, does it die with a burning fury when you're reminded of the love you have for something.
