Thomas Jefferson x Elizabeth Schuyler (idk what the ship name is or if it is even a thing but ok)
Because Alexander was never hers to lose. Even after the betrayal, the turns and the lies, Alexander belonged to many places, more than she could mention, but enough to know who she married.
He belonged to the war, to his work, to Washington's orders, to his writings, to his damned obsession with his legacy, to flattery, to revolution... And when it came to people, she knew how much her sister understood him, she heard the name John Laurens in his dreams on more than one occasion and, recently, Maria Reynolds was not the cause of the ruin of her marriage, she was just another piece in the mountain that Alexander liked to call his legacy.
So she couldn't blame her, not even hate her, because that would mean that she had to hate Alexander in the same way, and no matter how hard she tried, she wouldn't succeed.
When Thomas Jefferson knocked on her door, she assumed he was there to remind her husband that he had ruined more than one life. Because she believed that was how he was, after all, the things she heard from that man were the things her husband and sister told her, and none of them were even remotely good enough to keep the door open.
He put his foot in the way, preventing her from leaving him behind. She sighed tiredly, feeling like that might be enough to break her once again.
"He is not at home" he murmured, opening just a little more, keeping his gaze downcast, "can you please go away?"
"Not looking for him."
"There is no one else, please leave."
At first, she thought she had become the object of the man's mockery, and she tried to close the door even harder. When the man shrieked "fuck Hamilton" and then had to clarify "except those with Schuyler blood," with a pained look on his face, she couldn't help but smile.
And she felt bad for having hurt his foot, so she cordially invited him in. And he had the most pleasant afternoon since "that event," in the company of a man who was supposed to be despicable.
And so they became good friends. Eliza taught him to "be less extreme and more sweet", Jefferson taught her to "be tougher if she needed to." Jefferson did not even feed the pain and resentment that Eliza must have felt towards Hamilton, and he hated Alexander, of course, but he didn't want Eliza to know what pure hatred was, so he took it upon himself to hate him for her.
That's it. This is how they fell in love.

Stories I can tie back to The Grand Inquisitor* chapter of "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoevsky:
"The Return of the Archons" OG Star Trek, season 1 where the populace is having their emotions removed and replaced with "peaceful happiness" by a mysterious entity who believes this is the ideal form of humanity.
Possibly that city in A Wrinkle In Time being controlled by the giant brain? The Star Trek episode made me think of it and from what I remember it had a similar premise.
The Avengers (2012)- Loki's speech in Germany is eerily similar to the Grand Inquisitor's philosophy. Like, you can think I'm being silly, but nah man I have NOTES in the Brothers K comparing QUOTES from the Avengers to stuff the Grand Inq. is saying. I'm completely serious.
Possibly the cybermen from Doctor Who, but theirs is a more basic form, not fully developed, they want to remove emotions because they cause pain and problems for humanity... they do also want to rule humanity tho, so there's that.
*this philosophy being that humanity innately desires order and peace and someone to rule over them and remove their free will to achieve that peace. It's the antithesis to God giving us free will and choice and that creating a chaotic world... that is nonetheless filled with beauty and love and glimpses of a future where our world is no longer tainted with sin. Dostoevsky and I both urge that if you decide to read this chapter that you also read the rest of the book, because the rest of the book is essential for explaining why this philosophy is wrong. At least read the parts with Father Zosima a little bit later in the book.

Blind people gesture (and why that’s kind of a big deal)
People who are blind from birth will gesture when they speak. I always like pointing out this fact when I teach classes on gesture, because it gives us an an interesting perspective on how we learn and use gestures. Until now I’ve mostly cited a 1998 paper from Jana Iverson and Susan Goldin-Meadow that analysed the gestures and speech of young blind people. Not only do blind people gesture, but the frequency and types of gestures they use does not appear to differ greatly from how sighted people gesture. If people learn gesture without ever seeing a gesture (and, most likely, never being shown), then there must be something about learning a language that means you get gestures as a bonus.
Blind people will even gesture when talking to other blind people, and sighted people will gesture when speaking on the phone - so we know that people don’t only gesture when they speak to someone who can see their gestures.
Earlier this year a new paper came out that adds to this story. Şeyda Özçalışkan, Ché Lucero and Susan Goldin-Meadow looked at the gestures of blind speakers of Turkish and English, to see if the *way* they gestured was different to sighted speakers of those languages. Some of the sighted speakers were blindfolded and others left able to see their conversation partner.
Turkish and English were chosen, because it has already been established that speakers of those languages consistently gesture differently when talking about videos of items moving. English speakers will be more likely to show the manner (e.g. ‘rolling’ or bouncing’) and trajectory (e.g. ‘left to right’, ‘downwards’) together in one gesture, and Turkish speakers will show these features as two separate gestures. This reflects the fact that English ‘roll down’ is one verbal clause, while in Turkish the equivalent would be yuvarlanarak iniyor, which translates as two verbs ‘rolling descending’.
Since we know that blind people do gesture, Özçalışkan’s team wanted to figure out if they gestured like other speakers of their language. Did the blind Turkish speakers separate the manner and trajectory of their gestures like their verbs? Did English speakers combine them? Of course, the standard methodology of showing videos wouldn’t work with blind participants, so the researchers built three dimensional models of events for people to feel before they discussed them.
The results showed that blind Turkish speakers gesture like their sighted counterparts, and the same for English speakers. All Turkish speakers gestured significantly differently from all English speakers, regardless of sightedness. This means that these particular gestural patterns are something that’s deeply linked to the grammatical properties of a language, and not something that we learn from looking at other speakers.

I have a voice for my thoughts and I can hear the voice in my head. The voice may change depending on outside influences.
Example: I hung out with an Australian friend so much one semester that my inner voice started to sound like her, and she said the same about her inner voice!
My actual real voice is easily influenced by the accents of those around me - I unconsciously adapt. So if I hang out with Americans I start to sound American.
I read a book written in Manx dialect (in English, but with a Manx accent, not in the Manx tongue) and it's kinda similar to my original accent. My head voice reverted to my original accent for a week or two after reading the book.
Some people don't have an internal monologue: they don't hear a voice in their head speaking their thoughts. Some people can't imagine living without one. Which best describes you? (More specific descriptions on reblogs would be great!)

after literal years i finally got around to downloading a pdf of the wipers times, an unsancitioned satitical british trench magazine circulated among the troops in france from 1916-1918 after the fortuitous discovery of a printing press. i have approximately five million other things i need to read so idk when i'll be able to devote much time to it, and i gotta pick up a proper copy bc it's missing at least salient no 4 vol 2. that said? i'm genuinely laughing at what i've skimmed so far

ziska… I hope capcom brings her back someday
#shes cool as fuck to me bc when I first played jfa I found her really frustrating to deal with#not just as Phoenix but I mean like on a personal level she is challenging because she’s so thorough#and yet I also find it fascinating that she breaks the character she’s built for herself once in a while#i 100% believe that I don’t think she would have caught on to what Phoenix was trying to do while stalling for time with engardes trial#so it’s probably a good thing edgeworth subbed in but she literally busts her ass to bring evidence to court#almost right after having a bullet extracted from her WHICH SHE ALSO PRESENTS AS EVIDENCE. thats metal as fuck ok#especially since she would technically have nothing to do with the case after edgeworth fills in and she still decided to do that anyway#maybe it was blind faith to use that evidence to win since she wasn’t there for most of the trial but still#and even if canon doesn’t give it to me I still firmly believe there’s be at least some chemistry between her and Maya#like especially if you hold it next to wrightworth that works bc there’s already a history there and majority of Phoenix and miles trying#to relearn their relationship is Phoenix coaxing out that side of Miles that he remembers from fourth grade#but with Franmaya it’s something new and they’re basically strangers to each other and one of them almost got the other convicted#and I still think that’s fascinating and it’s a damn shame thay half of the fics I find for them on ao3 is background in wrightworth fic#i did find a good one that touched on Franziska trying to win pearls approval because Pearl does hold a grudge against her#and seeing that trying to live up to perfecting even her personal relationships without getting to know Pearl to even know#why it wasn’t working feels believable when I think abt her as a character yk#myart#my art#doodles#aa#ace attorney#franziska von karma

Hey Fullmetal Alchemist fans:
DNA wasn't properly discovered until the 1950s, and it wasn't til the mid 1920s that the idea of DNA was suggested.
Ed and Al know genes. They do not know DNA (unless i'm forgetting something from the shows).

An Experiment
I've recently discovered that reblog graphs are a thing, and I find this fascinating.
It's like tracing the path of a virus from patient zero, seeing who infected who, but it's an idea. A thought one person has made and put onto the internet to spread, to potentially infect anyone who sees it and who, in turn, may spread it themselves, to go on to infect other people. And yet when you look at it, it feels like some strange, grasping, growing organism, something alive, that is expanding itself in ways we find alien.
And so, in the spirit of curiosity, I make this post as an experiment: a single spore-thought that I release to drift aimlessly into the dark, to visit the depths, trenches and abysses of Tumblr that I have never seen, to witness and be witnessed by unknown minds, to grow and spread, or be forgotten and fail, all of it completely free from my influence.
I look forward to see what it will become.

saw a post recently about the sun and moon fandom and how non-selfship content is rare, and how that's frustrating, and it struck me, like... how rare that is. genuinely in all my 20ish years in online spaces, i've never seen a fandom that not only welcomed selfship but actively encourages it, when usually the rule of thumb is that it's tolerated at best and despised at worst
so why is this fandom so selfship centric?
the answer is a combination of factors, of course, but I think it was mostly just a perfect storm of the right character with the right traits at the right time. many people between about 23 and 33 were and still are experiencing intense childhood nostalgia that's being perpetuated by online culture and various media, often through a distorted or slightly unsettled lense. the daycare attendant is fun! they're childish, but decidedly not children. they're not human, unattainable in reality, but plausible enough in the age of ai that they make you ponder. they make you long to nap and play and color and do all the whimsical things you wish you could take a week off from your dull job and do! but there's something... off about them. an element of danger that's intriguing. they're dangerous, but what if they aren't to you specifically? or, if they are, what if they overcame that, just for you? what if you were worth it?
people our age are lonely, and if not, often working through issues they didn't have time to contemplate in their teens and early 20s because they were still living throigh the issues. younger people too, of course, but it's especially rampant in the aforementioned age group. past college and college friends, too caught up in work to make new ones. if the dca really clicked with you as a character, it's kind of fun to imagine what it would be like to hang out with them. what if they were your friend? what if they were more?
which leads to my last point--cringe is dead and we stomped on its corpse
maybe it started with a few people drawing a y/n with the dca, and wow the art is cute! who's the cute jester character? ... is that a self-insert? huh. and then more people join in. is that allowed? yes! and the crowd cheers for it too! the right people drawing the right character dynamics at the right moment, drawing others like a moths to a strange robotic flame
ultimately, the fandom attracts so much selfship because that's the bedrock, the foundation the rest of the fandom built its home on. almost all of the common tropes and characterization have roots in selfship fic and art. the dca's popularity very much kicked off from that, and seeing other people using them as an outlet for their loneliness, friendship, romantic or sexual desires, or even just for creative character and plot setups that are only tangentially related to canon actively encouraged others to join in, in a way that could only happen while riding the funerary coattails of cringe culture
it's very much a lightning in a bottle fandom, the likes of which i doubt we'll see again for a while

Kiss Kiss Fallen Tree!
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#Sorry to everyone who was looking forwards to this comic only to find out I put WWX in the ugliest outfit.#Continuity came first. Plus let's be honest; he did *not* show up in anything fancy. Or in all black as seen in most fanart.#We are at the middle of WWX depression arc. His self-care was 100% because Jin Yanli would be sad if he didn't try to look nice.#Okay okay. Fine I've delayed talking about the kiss long enough.#It is absolutely a core LWJ scene over a WWX scene. Which is made even more fascinating because we don't get his POV.#But we get so many insights! His loss of control and his firmness all contrasted against how he trembles.#And all of that wrapped up in a wonderful self-loathing bow! You go Lan Zhan! You hated yourself so much for this!#WWX is a hilarious narrator for this because he is truly just...baffled by what's going on.#He would push the person away but he doesn't want to hurt their feelings or pride (putting other people first again are we?)#I do understand why this one is divisive for people though. I choose to look at it through a character/humourous lens.#I've seen people defend and admonish this scene as a particularly shitty thing LWJ did and let's be very clear here: It was.#That's why I like it. LWJ did a shitty thing and struggles with it. It's part of what makes him so robust as a character.#It's also fine if you enjoy this scene for it's eroticism. You're not a bad person for that. You are just A Person.#People will have their own experiences with this topic. Be kind to each other alright?

It irritates me alot when people say that making medic more compassionate is ''missing the point of his character'' when he is literally shown to be in the comics.... did you miss the part where he showed concern for both sniper and miss pauling's well being in comic 5 and 6.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His actions are a combination of genuine attachment + clinical interest and these things do not cancel out one another. He is always pushing boundaries and going against the grain and i think this is what led to him losing his license in the first place. He felt stifled by the rules imposed on him.
He is shown to be extremely passionate so it makes sense that he would use his endless fascination with medicine as a way to show his affection. He loves his friends so he will find a way to make them borderline indestructible. Malpractice is his love language.
