I know that the early, non-Diasomnia stories aren't really your thing, but are you reading the novels at all?

I have been following some of the fan translations and the second book seems intense! Would love to hear what you think about them.

(I think 5 and 1 are my favorite of the past episodes, though 6 infected me with the Shroud brainrot something fierce.) I just...ESPECIALLY love diasomnia. :') but there is room in my heart for all of these dweebs! like, who among us is not just as ride-or-die for Adeuce as they are for us.

that said, I don't really follow the other adaptations like the manga (aside from a dip-in just to see the new Yuus) or the novels, though I keep meaning to check them out! I do like seeing the differences between the different forms of media, and how certain things get adapted one way or another! but alas, time/a lack of accessibility stands in our way more often than not. :( someday...someday I will have time to consume all of the media...

I love the idea that percy was fully aware of his own crush on annabeth since the beginning, but he was COMPLETELY oblivious to annabeth's crush on him

we know the annabeth's had a crush on percy since TLT, i personally think that she realized she liked him during the tunnel of love scene where he was protected her from the spiders and all.

just picture twelve year old annabeth who couldn't understand for the life of her why this annoying, random boy keeps making her feel a certain type of way. and then, he protects her from mechanical spiders and it all just clicks.

BUT i think percy began to develop a crush on annabeth pretty early on in TLT (my personal theory is it started when they were playing hacky sack and annabeth was SO impressive that percy was just in awe.. like that’s the most twelve year old thing ever and i could die from cuteness aggression)

and then right after, annabeth is quick on her feet to think of a solution to get percy out of the bus and dodge the furies, and that’s when his crush was in full effect.

nowww, i dont think percy realized his crush until like SoM, but it definitely had been there since TLT (annabeth’s is the opposite i think, she realized her crush immediately because she knew what having a crush felt like, luke, before and she’s just more in touch with her emotions in general)

Edward watching as Gordon goes from naive young greenhorn who always fell for his pranks to the meanest egotistical asshole he's ever met. Watching as his friend's insecurity and inferiority complex get so bad it warps him into the worst person he can be. Watching him drift away and distance himself from him because that's what his fears told him to do. That's what every other engine on the mainland would do. Watching Henry follow him, becoming snobbish and catty so he can stay close to him. Their little trio that he thought was unbreakable bend and almost snap at the seams

And despite everything, still being kind and friendly and affectionately bullying him like he used to because he knows somewhere deep down that young greenhorn is still in there. His friend is still there he just changed. And no amount of change will stop him from being his friend. And holding out hope that one day Gordon will remember that. He and Henry always held out hope that Gordon would change for the better. They still stuck by him even when he was cruel to them because he was their friend and like hell they're leaving him behind. How inherently tragic yet hopeful that is.

And it worked. And he changed, this time for the better. And no doubt the big blue felt awful about it later in life, hiding that shame and guilt under his arrogant bravado. Because he thinks it's too late to give an apology, and he's too scared of what might happen if he does. He will never know that they already forgave him. And he will never understand why they would in the first place.

They are the golden trio because, despite the years of harshness and turmoil they all went through. They never rusted and still shine to this day. No amount of change will ever erode their friendship.

The last is the inevitable one, Ayrton Senna. But before you answer, I want to tell you a little story. One year at Monaco, I waited four and a half hours outside the Marlboro motorhome to do an interview with Senna. The two of you were having a debrief. When the door opened, the first person who came out was you. I said: "You've been in there for four and a half hours. What on earth do you talk about for all that time?" You said: "Well, Murray, we talk about this and we talk about that, but I do not like to be the first to leave!" Did that sum up your relationship with Ayrton?

Yes and no. The team were very professional. Everything we could get from each other was important. If you left too soon, you would miss learning something.

But the way you said it, I had the impression that once you left, Ayrton would say, "And put another two pounds in the tyres."

We were very professional. Even when we had the big fight. It was a funny situation because we only talked to each other in the briefings. There, it was like we never had any problem. We were sharing set-ups and things on the car. I promise you – and I don't know whether the same is true for him – that I never, ever lied to him.

As someone who had enormous admiration for Senna, I never forgave him for lying about Japan in '90.

The only problems I have today are Imola '89 and Japan '90. I really suffered over them. Everybody lies in life, but when you lie for your own benefit... I suffered a lot. I almost stopped at the end of '90. For a few days I wondered whether it was worth carrying on, especially when I saw the comments in the papers that it was almost my fault! I remember one of the Honda engineers coming to me on the evening of the race and saying, "We have looked at the telemetry. It is unbelievable, Senna stayed absolutely flat until the impact." I thought, "Shit." Why didn't the truth come out? Living with that was very difficult. You must understand that Ayrton's motivation was to beat me. All he wanted to do was beat me. Being world champion was one thing, but that was almost second to the challenge of beating me. I was his obsession. As soon as I retired, he changed totally. We talked on the phone as if we had been friends for a long time. After I stopped, our new relationship made me forget about everything else. I remembered only the best of Ayrton and not the worst. It's like in school.
