wip whenever blabla
tagged by my wife @heylittleriotact and tagging back all my other spouses, we're in a polycule now, no you don't get to leave @aldisobey @caffeinatedmunchkin @jainydoe @thepalehorsevictoria
I don't have much else in the works right now, aside from this bit from the next part of Aftertaste, which I’ll probably drop at the end of the week. Just having fun letting Rook terrorize Emmrich, lmfao
****
Why the hell had he worn a cardigan? He tugs at the sleeve, disgusted. Now he just looks like a dejected, albeit expensive, librarian, a man who catalogs sorrows instead of books. Then again, maybe it wasn’t a complete miscalculation. The loose fabric at least conceals the burgeoning evidence of his disastrous self-soothing strategy, which consists of inhaling what feels like half the canapés and mini tarts circulating the room like a locust in designer wool.
The server, a lanky boy with the posture of a wilting houseplant, has begun to orbit the room with increasing evasiveness, his trajectory subtly adjusting each time their eyes meet. No doubt he has taken the cardiganed menace for either a lunatic or a man with intentions. Who could blame him? He had, after all, attempted small talk.
"Are you from here?" he had asked, chewing.
"What are you studying? Ah, architecture, fascinating discipline. The poetry of form, the language of space. So… buildings and such?" Swallowing.
"Theo, you say? A fine name. Stately, even. I once knew a cat named Theo." Fucking Maker.
Rook, of course, is perfectly at ease. She would fit in anywhere—a sinking ship, an Orlesian ball, a courtroom in which she is quite obviously guilty. Until she speaks, that is, and tells some unfortunate soul to kill themselves or, for variety, go lick an electrical socket (which, functionally, amount to the same thing.)
But she is lovely, so lovely, and loveliness is an all-access pass to the small, effortless miracles of social grace. People forgive beauty before it even has the chance to offend. Her hair, glossy and pale, is woven into a thick braid; her dress, a slip of silk that had cost him far too much, is the kind that suggests an invitation without ever formally extending one. She had thanked him for it in the usual way: by sticking her tongue down his throat. That had been most enjoyable.
He shifts, catching sight of himself in a tall mirror placed, rather cruelly, beneath the worst lighting imaginable. For a moment, he is arrested by his own reflection, standing there like some weary apparition clutching a champagne flute. The cardigan, he now reasons, was not such a poor choice after all. A forgiving silhouette. He inhales sharply, stomach obliging, fingers smoothing back his hair. Posture, at least, is still under his control. And height—yes, height is a mercy. It distributes excess, conceals indiscretions. He prods a rib, as if checking for damages.
Maybe Rook has a thing for the distinguished professor who looks like he drinks expensive whiskey while brooding over obscure philosophy aesthetic. Or maybe he’s just drunk and hallucinating entire futures again. Maybe, when the time comes, he will slip that absurdly expensive watch onto her delicate wrist and then sink to his knees in some ridiculous display of devotion before she allows him to fuck her. But not before he spends an equally ridiculous amount of time in front of his mirror at home, confirming that he is, in fact, as "pretty" as she insists. Despite the grey hair. Despite the cardigan. Despite looking like the unfortunate result of a librarian’s indiscretion with a waiter who has already accepted that his tip will be “the pleasure of the job.”
Arms slip around his waist, and in the mirror, he sees Rook pressed against his back, her face flushed, her expression loose with wine and pleasure. Her nails catch on a loose thread of his cardigan, and—because destruction is a compulsion, not a choice—she begins pulling. She is going to ruin it.
"You smell so good," she sighs against him. "This is nice."
"I'm glad you approve," he says, patting her hand where it rests on his abdomen.
She takes another deep inhale. “Like you raw-dogged a Wintersend tree, jerked off with a fistful of basil, and went down on a rosebush as if it was the love of your life who just returned from war.”
So. She’s drunk.

Hello! I see that requests are open and I am in need of more SE content, so I figured I would just slide on in! I realise you said obscure characters, so I don't expect this to be answered because my home boy is one of the main characters, feel free to ignore this! But I've been so obsessed with the idea of Kid with a reader who kinda just let's people walk all over them. They're too shy to speak up! And out of fear of upsetting Kid they dress as symmetrically as they can! They even started folding their toilet paper and picking up various other habits to please him:') Since they tag along with him everywhere he and the sisters go, they figured it was the least they could do:')))) So maybe one day something happens to say... maybe their outfit or smth? Perhaps it tears on a mission in a way that is asymmetrical. They start crying cuz they are afraid Kid will yell at them or worse- stop talking to them entirely! How does Kid react?
Stay hydrated and eat well!!!!! OR I'LL TAKE YOUR SOUL>:DDDD (Politely ofc U_U) 💛💛💛💛💛💛
Firstly I would like to say I'M FINALLY BACK BITCHES
Between holidays and my computer breaking and needing a new one I was unable to post for the longest time because shipping is a bitch but I'm totally back now and will be posting at least once or twice a week!
Now! Getting back into it...
---------------------------------------------------
-Kid would be the type to absolutely not realize that you are doing all that you do to please him
-he would love the matching outfits and all the symmetric habits you pick up but he figures that's just what happens in relationships and that you enjoys his habits
-after hanging out with them for a period of time, Liz does pick up on what you're doing and worries that you are doing it for different reasons than Kid thinks
-but she doesn't say anything because it doesn't seem to be really affecting you
-that is until you go on a mission together
-you and your weapon partner go on a joint mission with Kid to spend more time together and because Kid wanted to be able to protect you
-anyways the fight gets under swing and slowly but surely you're taking damage
-you don't notice but you outfit it coming undone; the laces rip on your right shoe, one of the buttons on your shirt gets torn off and you build up battle grime etc..
-once the fight is over you go to swipe the hair out of your face when you realize a part of you bangs has been trimmed on the left side
-you panic and inspect the rest of your outfit, realizing the rest of the imperfections in your outfit
-without even meaning to your eyes start to fill with tears, terrified that Kid is going to be upset with you, you heart begins to race and you feel your heartbeat in your ears
-you weapon partner is off assessing damage with Liz and Patty so Kid is the first to notice you upset
-he rushes over to you, at first thinking that you got hurt
"y/n are you alright? are you injured?" his eyes scan over you, hands rubbing soothingly across your jaw.
your lip quivers and tears stream down your cheeks, "I'm sorry" you whisper.
Kid's brow scrunches, "for what?"
you release a shaky breath, "I don't look perfect anymore. One of my buttons is gone, my shoes are dirty, I think that guy with the sword chopped my hair. Please don't be mad at me."
Kid frowns, "oh darling, what makes you think any of that matters to me? I admit I like symmetry but you could be wearing rainbow tie-dye and glow in the dark sketchers for all that I care. "
your eyes widen, "really?"
"really"
-after that mission you slowly start to develop your own style, occasionally swinging for matching outfits of course
-Liz helps Kid point out other habits that you copy unintentionally and helps you to gently shut them down
-Kid is your biggest supporter in helping you choose your own style, he can and will take you shopping whenever you feel like (live laugh love Kid's daddy's money agenda)
-and if you want to keep some of the habits you've picked up Kid is also happy because it means that you like him for who he is <3
---------------------------------------------------
tis all for now my lovelies
please don't be shy about asking because you think the character is "too mainstream", I'm pretty sure my entire inbox is Kid anyways so his character and I are getting fairly acquainted
as usual I am at your writing service my dears

YOU ARE NOW A PRETTY PRINCESS! ✨
This blog contains references to threats and violence. You have been warned.
(hey guys cool sexy man here to tell you first half is in-character, second half under cut is out-of-character)
HELLO! I MADE THIS ACCOUNT OUT OF SPITE OF THAT DISGUSTING THING THAT PLAGUES THIS GOD-FORSAKEN SITE!
NO, DON'T ASK ME ABOUT IT. IF YOU DO, I WILL CRUSH YOU! LETHALLY. You will feel pain. also he blocked me on all 8 of my accounts so um, y'know........
ASK ME THINGS! ASK ME TO DESCRIBE IN EXCRUCIATING DETAIL ASPECTS OF MY LIFE! ASK ME TO DO OBSCURE ACTIVIES THAT WOULD SEVER MY LIMBS IF I HAD ANY!
So here's some info in a similar format to my other blog, some things, such as boundaries, will be copied and pasted:
Blog Information✨
This is an ask/rp blog for Jeremy from regretevator, specifically the Jeremy referenced in @displ3azant. I might use this blog to more freely talk about my specific headcanons about characters from the perspective of an outsider, so that account is likely the only specific one referenced on this blog.
Jeremy in this blog uses he/any!
MAIN TAGS:

BLOG OWNER 🔥
Hello! I am Hex! Yes, you will see me talking to myself! No, do not comment on it. Please refer to me using he/him or it/its pronouns.
My other accounts are: @hexexists - my main blog, if you receive notifications from this account, please know it is just me! @hexational - my regretevator blog @displ3azant - afformentioned Unpleasant rp blog
I'll try to respond to most asks with a drawing of some variety, and if it's something I can use to reveal little ass-shit and bull-dumps about my version of Jeremy.
Please note, however, I am not just one singular guy but also a senior who should really be spending his free time studying, so sometimes I will just give a text response.
Also to note: I am 17 years old, therefore a minor! Even if I was not a minor, I am still not comfortable with weird shit! Keep it in your fucking pants, asshole! Apologies if I sound rude, but holy shit the only blog gets SO many weird asks! I will just be blocking and ignoring any freaky anons, apologies if you are my friend trying to mess with me, but I genuinely cannot take any more risks.
Boundaries ✨
Shipping content: Shipping content is okay, but I don't care much for romance personally and so will likely not play much into it. Please don't push anything, I guess, and nothing that promotes proshipping or any kind of literally illegal pairing. If you dislike any direction taken ship-wise for this blog, then block me and move on with your day.
NSFW content: NSFW CONTENT IS NOT ALLOWED. I am a minor. Thx. Also, "suggestive" jokes are very selectively okay. Basically, if it makes me uncomfortable or is literally disgusting, it will be ignored and likely deleted, and I will probably make fun of you.
Roleplaying: I am totally okay with roleplaying and sending/responding to asks in character!
(ps: i'm also happy to rp with other regretevator ocs too, i think those r super duper cool)
That's all, really.
your mortal enemy,

Still, Aster is determined to make the best of it and, unbeknownst to her, her meddling Captain is about to give the crew of the Archimedes their chance to show command what they're made of.
Soon a bad reputation is the least of their troubles and, whether the crew like it or not, they’ll have to learn to survive in deep space - where their only certainty is each other.

Then the war came and the men went off the fight. Answering the call to help, Bea and her fellow railway volunteers find themselves with an opportunity of a lifetime. Obscured from judging eyes by steam and smoke they shadow the veteran drivers and engineers, learning what they can on the job and hitting the library when they can't.
The trains need to run, they are vital to the war effort. All it would take is one rogue bomb, one mishap to take out a driver and the wheels stop spinning.
Or at least, that's what the station manager thinks.

To answer your question from the tags genuinely as a non-artist: sometimes it's because I'm worried what I comment might come off wrong to the artist - that they might think what I said was too unrelated (like if I rb x character and then start saying I loved it when x did y even tho the art doesn't show that), or misinterpret my tone. This wouldn't apply to your work but sometimes I want to express thirst (like awooga etc) but not all art that makes me thirsty is trying to be sexy on purpose so then I'm like would the artist be put off LOL
Sometimes I'm just self-conscious. Since by reblogging I'm already basically saying it's good enough to share with other people (I want other people to see it and I want to keep it on my blog forever), sometimes I feel like I shouldn't comment unless I have something specific to say about the piece (ex. the colors fuck) or a funny comment if it's a humorous piece but I rarely think of anything actually funny or witty to say... If it's fanart, how commonly something is drawn also affects how likely I am to comment. If someone draws an obscure character/ship/fandom, I will almost always say smth to express appreciation. This isn't a hard rule but thinking back on it I also think I comment more on artwork with fewer notes since it feels more natural/the artist needs encouragement I guess??? For popular work and fanart of popular media, I think it's mainly just a bad habit since I grew up on Tumblr in the aesthetic scene where ppl never talked in the tags. There's also the assumption that like, I'm sure someone else has already said they liked the linework/coloring or made that joke and I don't want to bother the artist by repeating what someone else said. Realizing now that most people wouldn't mind hearing at least compliments again tho 😭
thanks for sharing your thoughts. to answer genuinely as an artist: i think it is much, much, Much better to say something and have it be silly or repetitive than to not say anything at all.
at the end of the day, likes and reblogs are just numbers. an impersonal imitation of a human interaction. i cannot speak for everyone, but i imagine that for a lot of artists, including myself, the fundamental reason for why they make art is a desire to be seen and heard, to share oneself with the world, to form personal connections; which is why this shift towards silent observation in fear of somehow offending the artist with your interpretation of their art frustrates and saddens me greatly. art is meant to be interpreted! it's meant to evoke thoughts and feelings, even the simplest and silliest sketch.
i'm not arguing for everyone to write essays in tags (though i feel like a lot of artists would appreciate that), because sometimes a simple "this is nice" can elevate your reblog from a faceless crowd of "hashtag fandom hashtag character name" to possibly making the artist's day; but a lot of people feel the same way as you do. if everyone thinks, "oh, i shouldn't say [x], someone probably already did" it just results in no one saying anything at all. so i urge you to not restrain yourself. a little kindness goes a long way.

~~~NEW UPDATE~~~
(I'M A DUMBASS WHO DOESN'T KNOW HOW TUMBLR WORKS SO IF YOU SAW THIS ALREADY NO YOU DIDN'T)
I'm glad people liked my 4コマ KINGS post so much lol. I love spreading the word about obscure lore :)
Under the cut I've responded to some of my favorite tags, given a little more backstory into the source of these pictures, as well as posted a few new ones :D
There's also a question at the very bottom that I'd love to hear opinions on, but no pressure if y'all don't feel comfortable answering ^w^
Tumblr media
You're welcome >:D
Tumblr media
Same, bro. I was basically thinking that the entire time I was reading these books lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like I should give a little context to these comics and where they come from lol. I wasn't very clear about the backstory in my original post. I do agree, when I found these, I thought they were super important, too, particularly because I don't think a lot of the fandom knows about these books lol.
The Danganronpa 4コマ KINGS anthology series was published in the early 2010's featuring a bunch of different artists. The series is 4 volumes long and published by Spike Chunsoft, meaning, while these aren't necessarily canon, they ARE official :)
There is another series of anthologies in relation to both the first and second games, but I don't have those.
The first two volumes of this series is relatively well documented. There are sites where English translations have already been added to all of the comics in them (I'm pretty sure), as well as some screenshots popping up on places like Pinterest.
The third and fourth installments, however, are really poorly archived. The third has some content from it floating around, but it's hard to come by. The fourth had almost no information on it no matter where I searched.
I say this because a while ago I found the ONLY pictures of the Mastermind!Taka comic on this really old Tumblr blog from 2014 and REALLY wanted to figure out what it was about. (Didn't help that I couldn't read some of the bubbles in those photos.) First I searched for an English translation (there wasn't (so I'm working on one hehe)), then I tried to find which book it was even from, and NOTHING!
These books, since they were in circulation around 2014-ish, have stopped being printed, so copies of them are very hard to come by. Luckily, I was able to get my copies from a kind stranger on Ebay :)
-NOW-
Here are a few more pictures that I thought were funny/interesting that I couldn't add in my first post because of the picture limit lol.
Sorry for the really long post, I just thought it'd be interesting to share :)
Here's the page of artists that contributed to this anthology! Please go check them out (or see if they have any socials since it's been so long). Some credits change per volume, hence how many photos there are. (And sorry for my hand, it's hard to hold these open lol.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You've probably all seen the covers, but have you seen what's behind the covers? (Also including the opening illustrations. These have probably been posted online already as well, but they're worth including imo.) (Again, please excuse the fingers, I'm trying my best ;-;)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Sayaka came with a smudge :( she still pretty tho
So, uh, remember when I said Hifumi made ship fodder? ......Here it is. Eat your heart out lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also remember when I said that Mondo's hair was fluffy and bouncy? Here's the proof:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura has been de-buff-ified twice LMAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALSO remember when I said Syo was a fan of BL? ...... :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALSO remember when I said Kyoko was kinda socially awkward?
(Context: Kyoko sees Kiyotaka and Mondo calling each other bro and, thinking it'll strengthen their bond as well, calls Makoto "Makoto-oniichan," or "big brother Makoto" lol. Also, second picture says "I have come to save you, Makoto")
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chihiro Shinji chair meme
Tumblr media
I'm at my picture cap, but there's a lot I haven't brought up lol
-SO-
For a different thread, would people like me to find pictures of certain characters? (i.e. just photos of the characters looking cool/hot/stupid without a lot of the text.) Because I am totally willing to do that :)
I've already got a lot on Byakuya, Sakura, Aoi and Mondo for all you simps out there, and it's not hard to find even more lol.
So lmk :D
Writer interview tag. Thanks for the tag @its-the-allure 🙂
How many works do you have on ao3? 18 (+1 anon/unrevealed)
What's your total AO3 word count? 438 704
Your top 5 stories by kudos?
Blank Space
A Recipe for Disaster
Something Changed
Bite My Lip and Close My Eyes
An Extremely Indecent Proposal
Do you respond to comments? I love comments and I try to respond to them all, but I'm riddled with anxiety and don't cope well with praise, so I don't always manage to. This makes me feel awful 🙁
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Three. It's toxic Drarry, dark Harry and dead dove, not my usual style!
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? I nearly always write happy endings, but probably Blank Space or An Extremely Indecent Proposal because of the epilogues.
Do you write crossovers? No, and it's not something that really interests me.
Have you ever received hate on a fic? I've only ever had to delete one comment which I'd like to think was due to the reader misunderstanding my fic due to their own personal issues. I've also had a bad review on tumblr in Spanish lol
Do you write smut? Yes, I always write smut, the only fics without are gifts or pinch hits.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of!
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, someone asked once but I assumed they were a bot!
Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, but I would be up for it
What's your favourite fic you've ever written? An Extremely Indecent Proposal because it was from a promt by one of my favourite authors who left me lovely comments on it, and I also met my drarry bestie when she offered to beta for me 😍
What's your all-time favourite ship? Drarry, no contest.
What's a wip that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? I'm planning to finish all of them but am less motivated on the ones that I know will be less popular as I'm a kudos junkie. I have a companion piece to Imperius planned and started but no idea when I'll get round to it.
What are your writing strengths? I think I'm quite good at plot and getting a lot of detail in. Also smut.
What are your writing weaknesses? Too much plot, writing too much generally physical descriptions (I can see it in my head, why should I write it down lol) and writing endings.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? No major opinions, no plans to do it.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to? I'd like to write for a couple of obscure book series that have very few works on AO3 but where I'd basically like some fulfilling smut scenes from the main pairings.
This was great fun, @ultramarineorchid @bewarethesmirk @mintyelbows please have a go if you haven't already, and if you want to of course 🙂
if you could ask Miyazaki a single question on Bloodborne lore and he had to give you a complete and non-obscure answer, what would you ask?
"Why the Doll from Bloodborne is dressed like this?". In a heartbeat.
Tumblr media
There ARE some other things I really want to know, of course! All Fromsoft, not just Bloodborne. Like who was Djura's third companion, because it is absolutely not obvious since Joseph is not unique but just a summon variant of a generic invader enemy 'Izzy's Follower'! Or exact list of parents of Gwyn's children, so the family tree is solid! Or how exactly Rom ascended, because whereas Micolash claims she was given eyes by Kos, she is a Spider (Nightmare/Amygdalae affiliation) AND is found as a corpse near weeping Ebrietas in the Choir! Or who exactly Gloam-Eyed Queen was... All that!
However, simply answering all these with theories and headcanons and interpretations does not have consequences! The Doll's clothing discourse, however, does!
It is obvious that we as a fandom are not ready for Miyazaki's genius, and above all, not ready to be mature enough to respect each other's takes! Doll discourse brings out the worst in people! No other unresolved lore question makes people block each other on the spot for """wrong""" reading of this. People even block Gehrmaria shippers as if to distance from "impurity uwu" instead of just blocking the ship's name, like Tumblr allows to do! No other question makes them vagueblog absolutely vile shit about another, or sometimes put their hate for character/ship in the tags. No other question makes people call their opponents misogyny-apologists, braindead, weirdos, media-illiterate or straight up claim they "just want to woobify the cis white man" (seriously what the fuck RACE has to do with this?) ..... this is the part where I should address the wrongdoings of people with charitable Gehrman reading as a 'both sides bad' matter but I can't recall anything lolololololol
Tumblr media
Yeah, I might not believe there was any sort of misogyny tradwife stuff planned for the character. It is not just a matter of "even the doll should it please you" and "his curious mania" being inventions of localisation team:
Tumblr media
Doll says '私をお使いください' ('Watashi o o tsukai kudasai', so, please use me), referring to using her for channeling Blood Echoes! Gehrman says '君さえよければ、あの人形もね⋯' ('kimi sae yokereba, ano ningyō mo neso', so, 'doll too if only you are okay with it', or '...if that is alright with you') in the context of talking about the Hunter tools in the Workshop, again, pointing us towards the fact that she is, too, a 'tool' in a way. Some tools fortify your weapons, others (herself) turn blood echoes into your power.
Tumblr media
The "mania" mentioned in this line also uses the word 狂熱 (kyoonetsu), which refers to madness and insanity. Meanwhile, the "mania" mentioned in the description of Doll's clothes uses the word 偏執 (henshuu), meaning to be absorbed in the process very much, being very fixated etc. So, he was so absorbed in his work on the clothes of the Doll that he lost track of time!
It is... everything. Him being put up as a tragic character with a tragic song, when Fromsoft is always blunt when they want someone to be a weirdo or disliked. It is Doll crying a tear of joy upon feeling how Gehrman cared for Maria through Hair Ornament. It is Doll being based on Victorian grief dolls and not being a sex doll or whatever Reddittube said and Twitbr parroted. It is bifauxnen archetype being more often about a woman who did not even want to be masculine but something, or someone, pushed her to, than about plain masculine woman, paired with how much Maria regretted joining the hunt and her hunter attire being the 'masculine wear'. If not and transition was genuine, grief doll implies Maria at least used to be this way, and Gehrman clings to the past version of her, away from what killed her.
But in the end, it doesn't matter which! I try to not have biases besides 'what works better' or 'what feels more natural'! But even if Miyazaki said that yes, he did imply misogyny tradwife forced femininity whatever whatever for this character, what would matter is a concrete answer! Again: we as a fandom, heck, as a species, are not intellectually ready for the concepts like 'up to interpretation'. But removing interpretation factor from THIS thing would've saved so, so, SO many unnecessary petty dramas and conflicts!
LOTR-Themed Tag Game
I got tagged by the lovely @quillofspirit (thank you!) and tried to keep my answers to manageable length!
How old were you when you were first introduced to LOTR? My mom sort of told me the LOTR narrative in summarized chunks as a bedtime story when I was 5 or 6 (too little to have the patience to have the whole thing read to me). But I was probably 12 the first time I tried to read the books for myself.
Favorite LOTR character? Major character: Éomer. Minor character: Háma. And I have many desperately strong feelings about some very obscure canon guys that I still passionately love.
Books or movies? I thoroughly enjoy both, but I’m first and foremost a books gal.
Which location in Middle Earth would you want to visit? Just to visit? Lórien. I wouldn’t want to live among the elves full time, but it seems like the beauty in Lórien is out of this world so I’d love to see it. And check in on Haldir while I’m there.
Favorite movie? Most of the best Rohan content is in Two Towers.
Favorite scene? “DEATH!!!!!”
Favorite quote? I think this line from Haldir is beautiful and underrated: “The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all the lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” Also, my sentimental fave from Háma: “I said not Éomer. And he is not the last. There is Éowyn, daughter of Éomund, his sister. She is fearless and high-hearted.” True king shit.
What Middle Earth race would you want to be? Give me the messy, complicated humans (bonus points for the sweaty, dirty ones). Stick with what you know! (And I can’t live in a tree or underground.)
Favorite LOTR ship? Of the most popular ships, I guess I’d say either Farawyn or Gigolas, depending on whether I’m feeling a little emo or just want to be delighted at the time. My personal little pet ship is Guthláf and Wídfara, though I understand that’s not comprehensible to most people.
I definitely KNOW a lot of other people have answered these so I will probably mess up and tag someone who’s already done it! But I’ll take a no pressure stab with @frodothefair and @eomerofrohan
You want ACTUALLY obscure ship dynamics inspired by small fandoms WITH prompts for each of them to help you write? I got you bestie:
I get the frustration. You want to explore a new ship dynamic to practice your romance writing skills, but you can't find anything aside from the same old.
If that sounds like something you struggle with, here are some ship dynamics that are criminally underused because I've either seen it in a fandom that's teeny-tiny, or I thought of them myself and I haven't been able to see it anywhere.
(Disclaimer: Some of these MIGHT be slightly popular already, so don't go saying "erm actually I've already seen this trope used a bunch of times." I'm not saying that these ideas haven't been used at all, I'm just saying that their popularity is very less compared to some other tropes. I'm also not trying to judge anyone who likes popular tropes.)
Be sure to tag me if you use any of the prompts included here!
Teacher x Teacher. Blame Mr. Ajayi x Mr. Farouk from Heartstopper for my obsession with this. I know, Heartstopper itself isn't a small fandom, but this shipping trope is. Student x Student has already been done a gazillion times. Student x Teacher... uh... not everyone's cup of tea. Teacher x Teacher has a lot of opportunities for fluff and angst, and is also good practice for writing older characters.
(+ Bonus Points if the students notice and try to get them together and/or just sit there confused because how the hell did we get here?)
Prompt Ideas:
"It's 10:00 P.M., and you're still grading tests? Nope, I'll handle them, and you need to go home and rest."
"This is the third time this week that you've been crying in the teacher's lounge. That's it, tell me the names of the kids that I need to give a piece of my mind and extra homework to."
2. Childhood Enemies to Lovers. Before you say, "Wouldn't that just count as enemies to lovers?," the vast majority of enemies to lovers that I've seen involve A and B meeting when they're already teens/young adults.
We love childhood friends to lovers. We love enemies to lovers. Why not have both?
The media that I got this trope from is a BL drama called "We Best Love." If I gushed about how much I love this series and how it lives rent-free in my head, this post would last forever.
(+ Bonus Points If they realise that they never really actually hated each other, it was just a silent lie they were telling each other throughout their childhood.)
Prompt Ideas:
"You couldn't even let me have the slide for five seconds when we were kids. Why are you doing all this for me only now?"
"Wait, don't tell me you're still holding grudges from when we were literally in diapers?"
3. Okay guys today we've gathered to come up with a plan to get these two gosh darn idiots together. I don't really know how to describe it other than that. I also don't recall seeing it any of my fandoms, mostly from my OC stories.
However, I don't know if it's just me, but I LOVE seeing the ship's friends getting involved in having the ship sail successfully. We Stan supportive friends, and the comedy that comes with such situations is a surefire way to keep readers hooked.
(+Bonus Points if two of the friends slowly realise their feelings for each other WHILE doing their shenanigans to try and get the main ship together. Extra Chaos.)
Prompt Ideas:
"What are you suddenly doing here?" "[Friend] sent me." "That's weird, [Friend] sent me too." "Wait..."
"You're telling me that they still didn't realise they have feelings for each other? Ugh, fine, I guess it's time for Plan B..."
I have a lot more of these, but this post is getting too long. If you want to hear more about lesser known tropes, please show some love to this post!
Love,
Your Gay Writing Bestie
20 questions, Writing Edition
Tagged by @evelhak. Never played anything like this before. This should be fun!
How many works do you have on AO3?
10
What's your total AO3 word count?
289,201 words
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Crybaby (1,149)
잠시 (For A Moment) (758)
The Extra Ordinaries (131)
Accidental Siblings (126)
A Bear-y Good Friend (69)
What fandoms do you write for?
BTS and Kuroko no Basket. The only two fandoms I'm truly active in.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always! Comments are very important to me because it means a lot that someone enjoyed my story so much that they felt compelled to tell me. My favorite type of comments are the ones that pull direct excerpts from my fics and tell me what they like about them so much. It makes me giddy to know that my writing did that. Even the short comments that say "loved this chapter" or are comprised solely of emojis get replies from me, too. I don't skip anyone out. It's how I express my appreciation.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Looking at all the fics I've completed, I don't think any of them have an angsty ending. I'm a total whimp when it comes to stuff like that, so I always write stories with feel-good endings. It makes me feel good, so to speak.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
A Bear-y Good Friend, probably? It was a very cute story all around, and it only got fluffier as the story went on.
Do you get hate on fics?
Surprisingly, no. Even when I doubt myself or feel like my writing is clumsy, I have yet to encounter a comment that was actually critical of my work.
Do you write smut?
No. I'm perfectly fine with reading it, but I don't really care for writing it. Writing smut doesn't really compel me, but writing fluff does. In a similar vein, I don't really write romance either.
Do you write crossovers?
I have written a singular crossover called Darkness in the Destiny, which was a KNB x ATLA fic (it's unfinished sawry y'all), but I am not opposed to writing more crossovers and actually do have plans to write some in the future. I want to finish some current WIPs first, though.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
There was a time when all of my fics on FFN got reposted to some other obscure fanfic site without my consent. It happened to a bunch of other writers, too; it was a whole thing back then. Don't remember what happened to that site, though.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but if anyone would ever like to translate my works, I'd be totally down!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I wouldn't call it co-writing. I was just helping @wsknbfanaccnt brainstorm ideas for their fic They Act As One in DMs. I won't take credit for being a co-writer, though. The plot was all them.
What's your all-time favourite ship?
It's a tie between Nijiaka and Mibuaka. I just enjoy seeing Akashi get babied. Sue me.
What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Darkness in the Destiny. I really love the premise I came up with back then, but I admit that I bit off more than I could chew at the time. I should've taken more time to flesh out that story before ever writing it. I don't regret posting what I had, though. I just wish I could do it justice.
What are your writing strengths?
Hmm. Tough question because it's hard to see my skills objectively. But if I had to guess from comments I've received, readers seem to really like the way I characterize people in my stories, whether that be fleshing out existing characters or creating new ones. I've seen people tell me that my writing style is easily digestible, which I'm assuming to be well-structured without overcomplicating the vocabulary, grammar, and/or narration. People say that I'm very good at creating atmosphere, too. Not to toot my own horn, but I've had readers comment about parts of my stories where they were grinning from ear-to-ear, laughing super hard, or even crying. So I guess you could say that my writing evokes emotion within my readers? But that's all I got.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I suck at writing action scenes, especially combat. I want to be good at it, but I'm not even close to a level I'd be proud of publishing yet. I think my problem is that I lack the vocabulary to describe action scenes. I also struggle to make the scenes fast-paced and punchy. I would like to improve on that someday.
I am also terrible at creating magic systems which pisses me off even more than being terrible at writing actions scenes because some of my favorite shows have incredibly complex and well thought-out magic systems that are so cool, but when I try to make one, it's lacking in so many areas. This is why I've also held off on writing Fantasy stories with magic systems in them. I need more time to work on making mine better.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?
As in when characters slip into another language during the story? I think it's perfectly fine, but it's always going to be better if it's done by someone who speaks the language or has consulted someone who speaks the language; otherwise, it seems clunky and will instantly be clocked by readers who speak that language.
First fandom you wrote for?
Technically, my first fic was a Pokémon fic, but we don't speak about her because the fic was deleted a year or so after posting it. And I mean that I deleted it from FFN and my hard drive. Funnily enough, not too long ago, I was searching through old emails to find something, and I ended up coming across a long excerpt from that fic that I swore I scrubbed all traces of years ago. It was a trip and a half to read through it and gauge my writing style from 10 years ago. I will not be posting it, though :)
Favourite fic you've ever written?
Probably Accidental Siblings. It's very dear to me, and it's probably the fic I've had the most fun writing out of everything I've ever written. And I'm the type to have fun with every fic I write. Coming back to it after a six-year hiatus has only made my affection for it grow stronger, especially since I can now approach it with a more mature perspective and better writing skills. I can finally do this story the justice I wanted to do for it nine years ago, and that makes me happier than anything.
If you stuck around, thanks for reading! Thanks again to @evelhak for the tag. I'll tag @obstinaterixatrix and @babygurltash, but anyone who sees this can join in. Have fun!
🌑 the obscure intro post. 🌑
Tumblr media
Hello, this is the obscure other :0 i dont have an official name to go by, but ive been called ob or obscure before so those work fine, or other things you would refer to me through (one time someone called me ghost :0)
This is the blog i hide on from other people, so if you know or find other profiles i own, i request you not expose it for those reasons before im comfortable to. Like lots of bloggers, i dont want some of the people i know discovering the things i get into or like.
so this is just an f/o blog/journaling. . thing. I'm not entirely sure what content will be here, but it will be centered around f/os, self-shipping, and its just to give me a place to yell about the people that live in my/your brain rent-free and know they don’t exist but we pretend they do anyway for comfort reasons and serotonin, dopamine, uhh what other things feel good and ok??
some of it will be for you if I happen to think of something, other times it is for me to explode over my fixation f/os!!
youre also welcome to come talk about your f/os or introduce them to me!! i love hearing about other people's f/os of every kind, so i would love to hear or learn about yours.
This is a comfort blog to me, so there wont be any room for meanness or intended offenses here. Dont come to me with troublesome things or somehow twist/morph my content into something its not, we're just here to have a cool time with our fictional people, bro. . :((
other obscure things below the drop :0
🌑
Obscure general information:
○ They/them ○ Ob is 22 yo. Minors welcome, just look for the tags you need to block for this blog. Know that some of you younger kiddies or goofy youngsters have energies i dont know how to respond to, so sorry if im a little awkward over things sometimes. Nothing is your fault, its only me lol. ○ College student, so ill be slow to respond. Forgive me, i dont ghost others on purpose. ○ Ob loves horror, spooky things, drawing, video games, other movies, dinosaurs, zoology, and old cars :0
🌑
Obscure blog content + information:
○ Nothing explicit/detailed will normally be posted. but: The worst there will be is just being hormonally silly from kind of "rrr ovaries go brr, chew on theM-" energy of f/os. Overall, there wont be NSFW on the obscure blog, just the occasional post or goofy thing that might be NSFW-related. Those will be tagged, so look for the obscure tag post below. ○ obscure.other is overly sheepish but loves inbox games/questions/etc. or tagging things so if you want to give those, those are very cool. Those are the coolest thing on tumblr, tho i dont havet the confidence to reblog them for the obscure blog. tho if you give me one, ill give you one too!! DMs, inbox, or tagging me on them is ok. ○ roleplay requests are open, tho college forces me to be selective sometimes or slow. I love roleplay, headcanons, etc. so if you want to of f/os (be it mine, yours, or if we both like one) or other things not f/o-related, that's cool too. ○ the obscure blog is ok for sharing f/os, but if you do, that's ok. Go here: 🌑 the obscure f/o list or if there is one you love and would still like to be friends, just let me know so you can be the only one to talk about them on our DMs. They have tags you can block for when I post of them or the obscure self-inserts. ○ For the obscure blog tags, here is your tag list: 🌑 the obscure blog tags ○ There will be off-topic stuff, but those are less common than selfshipping things so don’t worry. Following the obscure blog comes with the extra benefits of memes and other posts. 👌🏻 ○ There are villain obscure f/os. Know that I don't condone them, and that some have headcanons tweaked for certain things because of those extra bad f/os, so those extra bad things might not be relevant on the blog. Do not go giving trouble for that on the obscure blog, or it will be blocked or ignored. ○ Do not get this too involved in the discourse of other things.  Don’t give the blog labels or talk about them on here. Know that I don't really care for things like incest, zoophilia, pedophilia, or prejudice of any sort. They’re gross and uncomfy for me to come across. Those who go for it or the content will only be blocked or ignored. That's all for that.
thx for checking out the obscure blog :0 buh-bye!!
So my mother and little cousin watched Stranger Things (I didn't yet because I have to force myself to wait for it to end but you can talk freely to me about it if you want I don't care about spoilers and never did).
And I checked the By/ler tag (typing like that so they don't find this post) and while I am rooting for you guys so hard (you? us?) it did feel impossible seeing the same type of posts "Mike is gay" and "Rival Ship are going to look so stupid when they finally kiss." and "By/ler is endgame and is/will be canon") and not have TJLC flashbacks.
And since I am obscuring the ship name on purpose, this is more of a vent than a warning, but as a writer, the only deciding factor on if a gay ship happens or not is whether the writers and actors decide it will happen.
I never thought the TJLC premise was that out there. I never shipped John/lock, but the idea that Sherlock is in love with John and even that John's rage was over his repressed feelings and his relationship with Mary was a cover-up for his bisexuality was never far-fetched. It's only in the details that it fell apart a little bit. The subtext was always real, it was just always intended as queer subtext and Mofftiss thought they were in the clear if they just called it a joke and said it will never be canon.
I also immediately knew I would ship Will and Mike when I didn't ship John and Sherlock because it has something they don't: an actual friends-to-lovers (as a concept). And this isn't actually a diss of John Watson or the validity of his friendship with Sherlock this time. I am actually referring to something else.
John/lock as a concept isn't for the most part, them just being close platonic friends first. It hinges on John and Sherlock flirting with each other as soon as they meet, being jealous of potential partners very early on, and both being aware of their own feelings on at least a subconscious level. I have no interest in those kinds of ships. I had a friends-to-lovers ship, and it's not that. This is just a classic romantic misunderstanding setup. It's a romcom setup. That's why it worked and for the most part, it's why it got popular.
And back to my actual point: it doesn't matter how much sense it makes. I know that Will is canonically gay and Sherlock wasn't. I know there are signs and parallels and that it would be great and make sense and listen—I want it to. I want us to win. I want queer kids to have this. I want to have this!
And a different rant: People will go on ao3 and see that Destiel is number 1 and talk about how insufferable the shippers are so of course you are rooting against them. They are not the oppressors here. A teen girl wanting Dean Winchester to be bisexual like her isn't a fetishist. You love it when queer shippers shut up and just take what they are given and don't ever complain. I hate fanservice too. But not for the reasons you do. You aren't rooting for annoying shippers to not win, you are rooting for queer people to lose.
That's what's so frustrating about the progressive het-ship shippers (and I am saying the ship is het not the shipper, you can be queer and like a het ship it doesn't make you a straight person).
You guys go online and see M/M trending over M/F and F/F and you forget that's not how real life works. All your talk about cis white men aside, society will take a kiss between two girls over two boys any day, as they can at least fetishize it. I knew this as a kid, but then I see the discourse online be all backwards.
No. You at least get lesbians. The lesbians die, but we at least had them. We had Lexa. We lost her, but we had her. We had a lesbian kiss advertised and used to draw people in. And to some, that's even more painful. Those tropes are painful just as queerbaiting is painful.
And then I see people like that one Sher/lolly shipper complaining about shippers. Clexas weren't rabid shippers. Some of them were for sure, but they were Lexa fans who had this awesome badass lesbian as a leader and we lost her. Wlw lost her. Making this about shipping when the romance between Lexa and Clarke was canon and thus part of the canon storyline and therefore Lexa's storyline is just immature and disingenuous.
I saw someone criticizing By/lers by saying Will wouldn't come out in the eighties and nineties because it was harder to be gay and how being gay as a teen is cool today, and I heard the same thing in the 2010s, who I feel most of us an now agree were filled with homophobia.
And no. No it is not cool now. It is only cool if your friends are already LGBT themselves or they are very dedicated allies. Society is not as accepting as you think it is. It wasn't back then and it isn't now.
And I know I don't know enough about this so maybe my opinion is irrelevant to you and you might be right. I know you think every show is different, and maybe this one is. I want it to be. I want to!
But don't put all of your eggs in this basket. Don't put the cart before the horse. Don't hand your enemies this win so they can call you all stupid if it doesn't happen right now. It's okay to want this. It's okay to hope. Just... don't make this your entire life, please.
Shows can let you down. Even good shows, even progressive shows, even the ones you trust. Especially those ones as you actually allow yourself to have hope that this time it's different and maybe it is.
Have a queer show or movie or book as a backup. Write your own media. Create. Enjoy what others create. Having hope is great some times and heartbreaking otherwise. But maybe that's just my cynicism speaking.
So @utmvarchive is gonna take a holiday break to lend myself more time to finish the Handplates summary and rebuild the queue.
Before I get started on the next AU (in this case, Chronotale) is typically when I catch up on anything found/posted on previous AUs since last archival, and I try to do that in the same order they were first archived in. I'd love to be able to have put them all up in the exact order of creation, but maybe if it's not too late to find all their dates, I could post a timeline at some point.
That said, thanks to recent community efforts to recover it from obscurity, the main AU I'm gonna be catching up next interlude will be Birdtale.
Which brings me to the rest of this post: the elephant in the room.
I'm still waiting to read a translation of the Evernote doc, so I don't know yet if it's supposed to be canon, but I was sent ~30 Birdtale posts, so I'm aware that the creators' art includes frans. It's not the first time I've had this conflict, and looking at the other AUs on my list, it won't be the last, so I'll address this now.
Frans is not a ship I'm comfortable with, and it's not the only ship I'd normally avoid that's shown in some of these AUs... but I also think selective omission would be irresponsible as an archival service. If utmvarchive's intended purpose is to conserve these works before they become lost media, and references to them become missing context, the blog can't always fulfill that role and still represent my own feelings.
For better and for worse, these AUs were influential in the development of utmv as its own fandom. Whatever revisions may follow, I made utmvarchive to keep a record of AUs' original versions and keep track of details that have since been forgotten or retconned. There's probably better ways I could do this, but I'm admittedly an amateur basically doing volunteer work as a hobby. Ideally, everything would be exported to an independent website in case Tumblr closes down, but I'm not an experienced web-builder and can't afford to hire anyone.
Point is, to continue, I've been having to weigh personal boundaries against archival integrity. So far, whenever I caught something in time like portrayals of frans (ex: Echotale), I'd tag posts accordingly and precede the whole AU in the queue with a bolded content warning post in case viewers also want to filter the AU before it comes up. This would be the first instance I can recall, though, in which the alternate Frisk isn't clearly older, which is why I've been especially reluctant this time.
So when I'm back from this break: If I do decide to archive every recovered Birdtale post this interlude, utmvarchive will put up a cw post beforehand, but I hope you'll understand that it does not reflect what ships I myself am comfortable with in my own spaces.
If you unfollow me and mine over this, I'll understand too. It's an awkward and difficult position I've put myself in.
🥀 Sour Petals AU 🥀
A modern Hermit-Traffic AU with a little Hanahaki disease (as a treat)
Hermitcraft & 3rd Life SMP Series
More MCYT AUs
#ridwork guides
Tumblr media
What Is This AU?
Mining? Crafting? Those days are far behind us, stripped away with the ores of a picked-over land. Today's generation would probably tear up before they terraform.
Living in the modern world isn't a cakewalk for anyone, and everybody's got problems under the hood. So when Lord Tek unveils a gauntlet full of challenges, grand prize being the right to possess both his prize ravager herd and the key to a fixer-upper castle, how could anyone refuse?
Get your Decked Out 2 on... I mean, anything's better than sticking around here.
AO3 Series
Blog tag - #Sour Petals AU
#ScarletPenguin for rating
Tone
A deep-dive into the highs and lows of messy relationships. The first (currently only) work in this series is rated M for language, themes, and implied sexual content. Other pieces will likely follow suit.
Drama and intrigue mixed with fluff, romance, a dash of passion, and a little angst. Everybody's got issues here, but Decked Out 2 will fix all that, right? ... We just can't all win.
Also a unique and serious exploration of a world where Hanahaki disease has its roots deep in local culture. Shout-out to good communication skills, gently letting people down, and saying "No" to anyone who tries to pressure you into something you don't want.
Figuring yourself out without putting that on someone else, my beloved...
Characters
Divorce quartet!
Clockers!
Tango and Mrs. T!
Mother Spore! ... I think he used to have another name
Hermitcraft ensemble! ... More details to come!
Ships
- Martyn/Cleo - Married in their late 20s and divorced a few years later when they allegedly caught Hanahaki disease for each other the same night. Which is, quite simply, Not A Thing.
Neither's quite nailed down what happened- Only that they fell apart. Now Martyn runs a flower shop and sells dye on the side. And Cleo? ... Those days are over. She's moved on. And if she hasn't, then you saw nothing.
-> NOTE - During their wedding, Martyn and Cleo bound their souls so they respawn together.
- Etho/Cleo - Let's hear it for the Clockers! After leaving Martyn, Cleo takes a couple years for themself before asking Etho out. Things... might've gotten out of hand.
- Scott & Pearl - Cohabiting before the alleged Nether Cheaters drama. Details unclear. I heard they were happy once?
Background couples we'll likely delve into later:
Ren/Doc (Married)
Tango/Mrs. T (Married)
Martyn/Mumbo (Briefly married, later separated)
Grian/Mumbo (... I'm not sure, but they have a kid)
Setting
A modern Hermitcraft landscape that leans into Season 6 and its themed regions, but with other seasons sprinkled in. A few Life Series locations are there too.
Martyn and his best friend Ren built the summer camp of Dogwarts from the ground up. Everything went south (or... north?) the moment they invited Cleo to give a presentation on wildlife.
Married couple Cleo and Martyn lived in Aqua Town before they split. She moved out to Cogsborough to study vex at Deep Frost Citadel. Next stop? An internship at Impulse's phantom sanctuary...
Is It For Me?
- Takes inspiration from canon, but definitely an AU. Features a blended setting and a thoughtful interpretation on how this world and its culture affects story events and character personalities
- Rating (M works; potential E)
- Large focus on divorce quartet (The good and the bad)
- Sex life and kink exploration
- Clocker pregnancy arc
- Chronic illness, disability, and ableism (Mostly themed around Hanahaki disease)
- Parental conflicts (Frustration, judgment)
- Occasional obscure references to Hermitcraft or Life Series. Shout-out to Ren's Stax-4-Stax tavern from Season 6!
- Work in progress! I'm making this up mostly as I go along. Feel free to leave comments and chat ideas with me!
Major Themes
Love, friendship, communication, consent, identity, self-exploration, risk-taking, putting your unique strengths to the test.
Plot Highlights
- Ren and Martyn run Camp Dogwarts every summer.
- Martyn runs a flower shop whose products shift depending on the divorced couple's affection for each other that day (or lack thereof).
- Decked Out 2! And you're invited!
- Cleo's stupid good at taxidermy.
- Team B.E.S.T. & T.I.E.S doing their thing. Bdubs works at a chocolate shop and Impulse runs a phantom sanctuary.
- Mycelium Resistance / Mother Spore arc. Wait a sec... mushrooms aren't a flower... Is this a new Hanahaki strain?
- Pre-Cleo, Etho adopts a kitten named Jellie. Later, with a son on the way, he needs to make a decision on whether she'll be safe around little Scar.
Ongoing?
This series debuted in the Hermitcraft Guess the Author event of 2024. It's ongoing with unscheduled updates. The only schedule we believe in here is whether the vibes are right.
I've greatly enjoyed it thus far.
Warnings, notes, and explanations below so readers can learn more about this AU. Don't like? Don't read.
👀 Take a Peek
New here? You might like to start with these:
There's only one work in this series so far!
Start Reading
Recommended ways to get into the full AU
🌄 First Written - Top 10 Hanahaki Life Hacks (#8 Will Shock You)
Martyn coughs up flowers for years after the divorce, making bank as a florist, dye salesman, painter... anything he can put his on-and-off Hanahaki disease to use for. Cleo just wants to move on.
A Cleo-centric multi-chapter that shifts between past and present as Cleo blends her summer fling with Etho with flashbacks of married life with Martyn.
What they had may have been messy, but it was theirs.
📅 Chronological Start - TBA
🗺️ Worldbuilding
Modern AU with limited mining and crafting, but hints of Minecraft mechanics in the tech. No inventory or magic in this one; going for realism.
We've got cars, grocery stores, corner stores, and subways.
Hanahaki disease is expected at some point in your life. Whether you work through it or call it quits is up to you.
Hanahaki is a chronic illness, but rarely terminal. It impacts your breathing and movement. People cough up petals, stems, and whole flowers (No blood, though)
Fairly realistic and non-magical mob biology. Ex: Endermen don't teleport, but they're boneless. I don't often portray tall, long-armed, solid-colored franchise creatures with funky eyes as nocturnal land squids, but it's weird it happened twice.
In line with Hanahaki themes, people in this world have an unusual connection with souls and love. Some people even link their souls during special ceremonies; Martyn and Cleo did this for their wedding. In this AU, such soulmates don't share pain, but they respawn at the same time.
-> For those unfamiliar, in Double Life SMP, Martyn and Cleo were randomly rolled soulmates, but lived separately.
Work in progress! :)
📋 AU Notes & Warnings
The first (currently only) work in this series is rated M for language, themes, and implied sexual content. Other pieces will likely follow suit or take it farther. Thus far, we've had:
Married life flashbacks
Kink exploration
Awkward condom shopping (I would have two nickels...)
Working through wavering feelings of attraction
Suspected cheating (Divorce quartet drama)
Chronic illness (Hanahaki disease slowly overtaking you or your loved ones)
Death (It's Minecraft. World has respawn, though it's implied some people have reached the end of their respawn abilities; the ability grows weaker as you age or if you have to drain lots of energy to recover from a particularly nasty death. Young characters will respawn)
This AU also touches on topics like Clocker pregnancy and Etho's wobbly feelings about being a dad.
We're mirroring Limited Life canon where Cleo claims he shot off while Etho claims she kicked him out.
You can create works based on this AU. Please cite me and/or the AU as appropriate (i.e. for things very specific to this AU). You are free to expand on ideas you've thought of thanks to my AU as a jumping off point. I'd love to reblog or link things to my AO3 works if I see them!
I write content with morally gray characters. Please don't portray my story events or worldbuilding out of context with intentional malice. As in, I request you do not post things created for the specific intention of bashing me or the AU
20 Fanfic Author Questions
I was tagged by @quietwingsinthesky!
1. How many works on AO3?
I currently have 62 works on Ao3
2. Total AO3 Word Count?
It’s 2,239,274 words, more than half of that is Wards.
3. Top 5 fics by Kudos
The difference between first and second is staggering, but my top five are - The Wards of UA - BNHA, 4,100 I Knew That Skin - Kamisama Kiss, 398 Five Times Akura-ou Insults Nanami - Kamisama Kiss, 357 I Know That Skin So Well - Kamisama Kiss, 334 Dad, I’m Scared - BNHA, 334
4. What fandoms do you write for?
I’m back on my Supernatural bullshit, and seasonally on House of the Dragon, but my hyperfixations tend to be on a 3-5 year cycle. I still have some WIPs for BNHA to publish and I’m trying to be less monogamous to a single fandom.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do! I have responded to pretty much every comment I have received, but sometimes I do let my Inbox stack up for a while before responding in batches.
6. Angstiest Ending?
I struggle with letting endings be angsty, but I think Don’t Do This Wicked Thing, a Supernatural offscreen world-ending noncon that doubles down on mental violation and has no fix in sight, is probably worse than the BNHA OC with dying from degenerative quirk use.
7. Fic with the Happiest Ending?\
So With Gritted-Teeth and Gutted-Body - uh, Appalachian!Cinderella discovers she’s a monsterfucker and Sukuna just happens to be the catalyst of that. In my own perspective, I think that’s a little better than getting found-family’d after The Horrors?
8. Do you get hate?
I’ve gotten some mean comments, but I’ve oddly gotten more harassment over what I read. I had to put any story with sex scenes/Explicit rating in my private bookmarks because I don’t want other authors to get hate.
9. Do you write smut?
I do! I used to write more of it, but I’ve found that it’s actually the hardest thing for me to write as it takes a long time and it’s not really something I can jot down at work.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I have been writing them lately! Just fun little oneshots. I don’t think I’ve read one that I particularly liked, even if I think the concept of mesh-worldbuilding is fun.
11. Ever had a fic stolen?
I don’t think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I haven’t.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
I have! The Crack in the Brick was written with @swamp-spirit !
14. All time favourite ship?
Ahhh what an awful question for my multishipper heart. Samifer and Michifer are two that I’ve shipped for almost half my life and I love both dynamics dearly. I also love the Rooftop Polycule for BNHA, and Akura-ou/Kayako for Kamisama Kiss, and there are some brain-alteringly good Tyrion/Sansa fics out there.
15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
A Lot. If I could just retrieve the brain that started some of these projects and let it run until it’s finished, that’d be great. Even Arahitogami Hajimemashita would be great to have finished, but currently, Miasma Kids’ unfinished status haunts me. Both being full story rewrites is uh Daunting.
16. Writing strengths?
I can make A Lot of words. I think I also tend to make characters relate to each other in unique ways? It makes it a little harder for me to discuss characters and canon with other fans, but give me the excuse to write a fic and I feel like I can flesh out how Dean Winchester would sell drugs to Bakugo Katsuki.
17. Writing Weaknesses?
I uh… I make a LOT of words. Sometimes too many. Sometimes I introduce some subtext or a little half-plotline that goes nowhere because I got bored or just plain forgot about it.
18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?
I’ve done it sparingly. I think like any tool, it works best when used with great intention. Like for Wards, when I dip into French for French-speaking characters, something’s being obscured intentionally. But I think the classic example of mixed language gone wrong is when a multilingual character just ‘slips’ into another language in conversation, and not in the ‘oh I know the word in this language but not the one we’re speaking’ sense.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Avatar: The Last Airbender. I was posting on the Nickelodeon fanfiction forums back when they still had that. Princess Sungia of the Shadowbender Islands married Firelord Zuko after saving his life from evil Earthbenders at the cost of one of her legs, and also worked with Aang to spread the word of Jesus Christ through the ATLA-verse. (I was 11, and Very Very Baptist)
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Ask me for my favorite child why don’t you. Of course Wards helped me process So Much Shit, but pretty much every fic has something that I love about it, from the BNHA OC fics to the Supernatural/Dungeon Meshi to the little Febuwhump prompts, even the ones I churned out the same day. But, if I had to pick, I think Blood Makes You (in)Human, Family Makes You Into a Home is my favorite right now. Yes, it’s Alex/Lucifer and that’s a one hell of a crackship, but it was a concept that really gripped onto me and I had a lot of fun with the purple prose and floweriness to it and just, how fucked Alex and Lucifer are and how they fit perfectly with each other.
Tagging @swamp-spirit, @lebirbybitch @rinienne but anyone who sees this can consider yourself TAGGED.
