That is very true. I think if she shot him and it all went the same way, but there was no mind palace showing how much extreme pain he was in, MP!Mary posing there menacingly, some people wouldn't feel the same anger and would forgive her more quickly.

Especially if she immediately and sincerely apologized to him instead of continuing to threaten him (because if you apologize to someone when you are about to do something and then do it anyway when you had the ability not to, your apology isn't worth crap).

I think if one is a person who feels naturally protective over one's favorites, they will be upset at Mary for shooting Sherlock.

Yes, it's fiction. No one is actually getting shot at and no one's life is in actual risk. It's tv violence, it's not real. But if this fiction truly meant nothing to us, we wouldn't be here.

As absurd as the idea of forgiving Mary is, of her shooting him “nicely”, the worst thing storytelling-wise is the extreme pain they showed Sherlock in. It was extreme and *awful* to watch. He’s our protagonist ffs we’re meant to feel protective. It’s one of the reasons it was inconceivable to me they’d show that then let it go. We’ve all pointed out that if you want to redeem someone you have to give hints, show actual remorse, etc, etc, but the protagonist in THAT much pain and it meant…nothing? It’s like Moffat is sadistic and simply likes to show pain just for the sake of drama, unconnected to anything…no consequences or responsibility or resolution as usual.

This is me when I buy a bad product and then feel pressure to use it and don't buy one that actually works and I actually like.

I bought two almost identical blushes that I do like, but don't love. I bought three more of that same kind that I like way more. I still use all of them, but I won't take away that happiness just to punish myself because I made an error with the second one.

Somehow it feels like tumblr is accidentally the perfect social media site, because none of the things that I love about it make sense as features the way we use them. Tags are for organization, but we also use them to have our little thoughts in without raising them to the status of main text. The queue makes sense for keeping a steady stream of Content going if you're trying to Build a Social Media Presence, but really we use it just to bank posts we want to reblog without flooding everyone else's dash. You can't see how many followers anyone else has, which I just have to assume was an oversight because it flies in the face of everything about social media, and it's great because you can never quantify anyone's Influence so everyone's essentially on the same level. There's no way they planned for giffing to become such a Thing, because before tumblr, gifs were practically relics of the early internet days, a novelty, usually kind of tacky, and now they've become a sort of folk art form. You can reblog an entire conversation, not just a single post, so there's a whole genre of humor that exists here that can't really propagate like that on any other social platform. Honestly this website is just a little freak of nature that cannot possibly have been intended, and that's why no media company has been able to figure out what to do with it, because it makes no sense within the larger social media ecosystem. I love it.

i feel like the fandom really brushes past the wedding between john and mary and just dismiss it as sherlock pining for john, and, not wrong (i will write a 10 page essay handwritten about how incredibly sherlock is yearning and 8 of them would just focus on the speech) but also we’re missing the key point to the wedding.

sherlock is lonely. he’s so alone because the only person he thinks he has is john, and john is now married to mary and wouldn’t spend as much time with him anymore. he’s so alone and that used to be what protected him but once he had a taste of companionship, being alone turned into being lonely. he looks around the crowd and he finds no one.

that’s a lie, he finds one person. and yet that one person is dancing with his wife to the melody sherlock constructing, dipping her down and kissing her, and sherlock can only watch.

I metaphorically gave birth to this post while being in the middle of a terrible depressive episode and not being depressed for 1 (one) day by doing this trick where I do not fucking sleep for 24 hours to activate my mania.

But have you ever shipped a small ship that was sort of hated on in fandom but mostly just not considered and then suddenly when you're not into the show that much anymore it goes... semi-canon when they hook up but one half of the ship is actually the evil alterego split using a Jekyll & Hyde potion and the other half is basically just using her while being hung up on his ex wife?

And the "good side" still only has a platonic relationship with him but she deduces the two of them are a thing and has to announce to like the whole cast of characters that they always had chemistry and they are all super shocked and/or make grossed out faces?

And the fandom is joining in about how gross this thing is because the man had an affair with the women's mother and was speculated to be her father for years despite that fact being debunked in the very episode and he was also kept as a slave non consensually by her sister who had a thing for him and he tried to seduce her in order to escape?

And you don't know how you feel because you never had any hope in the first place and also you never expected to be right and this is like the worst way for it to happen ever but you'll take what you can get? Like this is supposed to be Your Moment.
