cassandra is a character i love so much. tangled is a movie that means everything to me. kiara is the person who understands my tangled feels. the way you play cassandra...like how you said i have a grasp on reagan, you have such a perfect grasp on who cassandra is as a character. her voice is so clear. you understand who the character is and have transformed her into something more than what was given in the bio i wrote and also in the show that’s used for inspo. she’s a spectacular character and i love her so much. it’s an honor to be one half of elssandra but also cassunzel. she’s such an amazing character. you should be so proud of what you’ve brought to life, kiara.

listen i told you every day how much i love monty. i literally scream it to you in your living room sometimes. i’ve seen every iteration of monty but i think this one is my favorite. i didn’t even know lightning’s real name was montgomery that was all you. so much of yourself is in monty. it reminds me of myself with wally and i think that’s the biggest reason why i love monty is because he’s bits and pieces of you and i love you very much. as much as i love cocky era lightning i love dad lightning even more. i wish i had a dad like him i’m not gonna lie but we’re not gonna unpack that on the man lmfao. i’m glad i’m more enveloped in his story now because he’s such a good character dude. like such a good written and played character. he’s second in my heart to sulley but is inching closer to number one by the day.

fran !!! my bestie !!! my fave !!! i would die for them !!! like bee, i love talking to you about fran and all the tomfoolery they get into. you’ve played them for so long and each time you transform them into something better than the last. they age like a fine wine. in the past almost two years i’ve been able to be part of their story more & i’m so happy for that opportunity. you’ve put so much love, care and devotion into fran. you’ve added so much to their story. like they’re so fleshed out, how does your beautiful brain come up with all this backstory ??? lemme know i need some of those brain cells. they’re amazing. you’re amazing. i want fran to buy me and island and make me pasta but i’ll just them do that for caspian the favorite child.

hands down i had to put orion my future father in law. i’ve had the honor of watching you develop orion into something incredible over these past six years. ( holy cow !!! six ??? insane. ily ). he was a big bad, misunderstood boy and you’ve humanized orion. you’ve brought life into him and created such a beautifully crafted character. he has a heart now. perhaps a tiny one but it’s there. the backstory you’ve created for him and the future he has - all stunning and wonderful. i love this man. he deserves so much after the shit he’s been through. i’ve had the privilege of being in his orbit for a bit when i played logan. I still get to watch him and enjoy the light chaos he brings. i’m ready for the new era of casino owner orion and what trouble he’ll bring now.

the boy !!! the legend !!! i love shaggy so much. first of all, the future you planned for him. how dare you ?? do you like to see me cry ?? is that it ??? i’m glad he hit his happy arc now because WOW. pain. shaggy is just a nice guy, man. he’s so nice to everyone he meets. i want to be friends with shaggy and scoob. i love mystery inc. i can’t imagine anyone else playing shaggy but you. to me, you are him. he’s the heart of the group. it’s not mystery inc without him. therefore, you’re the heart also. it’s not the same without you.

i could easily write an essay about how i love all your characters and how you play them all so well but i had to give this spot to sadie. the teagues are my og loves. every time i see sadie the part of my brain where logan resides lights up. she’s such a good character. she’s a little devil and it’s exactly what we need. we need someone to stir up the pot and throw eggs at kids. sadie is a product of her environment. she’s so tough and had to be so young. no one her age should have to grow up so fast the way she did. i would like to wrap sadie in a blanket give her some coco with bat marshmallows and tell her to take a break. hug her. maybe give her some therapy to. i love her. you’ve brought her to life in such an amazing way. i hope her brothers join her soon so we can have that sibling goodness.

i was tempted to put ian here because ian lightfoot is joel and we already know how much i love al and wendy but i decided to show the og love so i put nala. from the get go you knew who nala was going to be and where you wanted to go with her. you always bring so much to your characters. you develop them in ways that amazes me each time. go bestie go you’re so talented. i love how devoted she. how fierce she is but also the vulnerability you bring to her. she was thrown into a world at a young age fighting a war she wasn’t meant to and THAT’S a lot on someone. and we see that. i love the way you play her and i’m so happy you decided to take her up. sorry you have to deal with simba tho. pour one out.

everyone and their grandmother knows the oliver and co cast means everything to me. i’m so glad that you decided to join them ! you’re a wonderful addition. i love miss george. she’s fabulous in every sense of the word. sharpay evans is shaking in her lil boots. i just love divas. i love them. i am one. she’s perfect. and we know that’s not easy for her. i know your beautiful mind works wonders so i know there’s a lot of growing that georgette will be going through in the future and i’m excited for it. prayer circle for a jenny and oliver.

when you auditioned for thackery you already had an idea of where you wanted to take him and how you wanted to add to his character while staying true to the bio. that is the kind of stuff i like to see. this man has seen some shit and also has been through some shit. i do hope one day his soul can be at ease. he needs a long cat nap. you care a lot for thackery and it’s lovely to see. he may be a hamilton hoe but we have to respect the drip & love him for it anyways.

timmy boy deserves a hug. a hug and a nice space movie to take the edge off. you always put so much of your heart and yourself into your characters. you care so much for them and that’s evident in buzz. he’s goofy, he’s cool and he’s just so wonderful. i’m excited to see where buzz will go from here and how he’ll develop over time. i’m hoping some happiness. maybe some resolution with woodrow just to spice things up. that metal arm is still cool too.

i love penelope. i really do. i am penelope’s number one stan. it was discussed before but it’s so easy to play miss piggy as unlikeable since she is such a brash character but you bring so much light and love to penny. it’s hard not to be in love with her and want her to succeed in everything she does. she’s the miss piggy we all grew up with but she’s also special because you’ve added your own personal touches to her. she’s an amazing character. i would punch anyone who’s wronged penelope. i’m excited for the layers to start peeling back and we see more of penny - especially her badass ways. i just love the way you play her and i love penelope hainline okay. i lovoe divas as stated above what can i say.

ANNIE !!!! WOW AURORA ??? genuinely she is the love of my life. I love her so, so much. she’s so sweet and wonderful and deserve to be tucked in ??? read a bed time story ??? and not be cursed ??? why’d i do that. she deserves the world and so do you. in the short amount of time you’ve had her you’ve added so much depth to her story. which is not always easy the first few months you have a character but you’ve put in a lot of love into aurora already. you understood the assignment and & went beyond. i’m so excited to see where she goes on her journey and what will happen when he hopefully get a maleficent one day. also is it an aurora shoutout without me saying philip loves her ??? bc he does.

10x07, The Money Maker on the Merry-Go-Round

“She said I was a pain in her ass. Not a pain in the ass. A pain in her ass, specifically her ass.”

Aubrey: This is the episode when Aubrey really becomes a character. He’s been entertaining enough up to this point, as much as a replacement for another beloved character could be. But he was just an insanely confident and kind of goofy guy. Now we see that he has multiple sides to him. We see what pushes his buttons and I mean we really get to see it. Bones is really good about letting characters’ baggage be an actual part of them, rather than giving them tragic backstories for pathos

And John Boyd’s acting seriously cements all of this. Compare him in the scene at the beginning when he assigns himself to the case and steals Booth’s food with the scenes where he yells at the victim’s wife (aka Wendy the Waitress!?!) and subsequently apologizes to Booth. He has the light-hearted cockiness, the cold anger, and the tearful, quiet sadness and shame absolutely down. Let’s give it up for the way his voice quivers!

Christine: Little kids swearing will never not be funny. This subplot is gold.

The moment when Brennan curses at Oliver is great, not just because it’s satisfying but because of how ponderous she looks before doing it. I love moments like that when Brennan acts deliberately out of character because you can always see her thought process going on: “I told Booth that profanity could be a good thing, I should do something to prove it, hey this would be the perfect time.” It makes the whole thing even more awkward and wonderful.

Oliver: There are moments when I feel like Oliver is trying to be a part of a group and get along with his coworkers, and then he says something and I go Nope never mind he’s just an asshole. And then he acts confused when Brennan doesn’t like that he’s basically mocking her. Come on, guy, what is your deal.

Beard Buddies: I’ve said before how I love Hodgins and Oliver’s friendship, and you can see it start to develop here. But I’m glad that Hodgins decides to come to Brennan’s defense because that is also a great friendship and if I’m being honest, probably a better one.

Angela: Usually, when Angela shows off her expertise it’s about computery stuff, so when she gets to demonstrate her artistic know-how, even just in little moments, it’s great. For this episode I’m specifically talking about when she’s helping Cam reconstruct the guy’s face and instructing her about proportions. I’ve always been really bad at proportions so that’s impressive to me.

The Good, The Bad, and the Cards - A Brief Look Back at KH: Chain of Memories

It’s been 15 years since Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was released, and while I adore this game, I want to look back and highlight 7 specific elements worthy of praise that still hold up to this day and 7 specific elements that aren’t so good and helped derail the KH franchise going forward, the “Franchise Original Sins” as it were. So without further ado, here they are:

Positive: The Card Map System - I really love the usage of cards when it comes to exploring each world. Through the different cards, you get to create your own customized dungeon to crawl through, and the incentive to battle in order to collect cards you need to progress further in the level is a good one.

Negative: The Card Battle System - Unfortunately, using cards in combat isn’t done nearly as smoothly, and they complicate battles way more than they should. This is especially bad in the original GBA version of the game, where the cards are hard to make out on the small screen and the tiny, cramped arenas that you fight in make it all too easy to get backed into a corner while trying to shuffle through or reload your deck. This game could’ve done better.

Positive: Sora’s Story - The main scenario of the game is superbly written by Daisuke Watanabe. Like I said in my video review, he took what he was given, which was virtually nothing, and turned it into something. Sora’s character has never been explored in as much depth as it is here, with all of his raw strengths and weaknesses on full display. His bond of friendship with Donald and Goofy, his strong romantic interest in Kairi, his tortured clashing with “Riku”, his animosity toward Organization XIII, and the interactions he has with Namine toward the end are all handled perfectly. It really reminds you of just why you love this guy.

Negative: Riku’s Story - Reverse/Rebirth, otoh, doesn’t hold up so well. It tries its best to give Riku good character development, but too much of it is focused on practically everyone but Riku, the lack of anything occurring in the Disney worlds means that the story feels too light on content, and the conclusion Riku’s character is ultimately brought to contradicts what was established in the original KH and only creates further problems down the line. What’s more, this was the start of forcing Riku down our throats as the deuteragonist of the series, which is a role he was never suited for and that he only gets worse in overtime. So yeah, not a fan.

Positive: Organization XIII - Primarily the members introduced in Sora’s story; Lexaeus and Zexion are more useful as plot devices than as characters. Not only are Axel, Larxene, Vexen and Marluxia all excellent villains in their own ways, but the villainous arc they are part of is the best-written one in any KH game. Watching them work off each other and against each other in this dark but easy to follow political intrigue plot is one of the game’s highest points.

Negative: The Riku Replica - Don’t get me wrong, this was a decent character with a decent arc, but the execution was way too over-the-top and overstayed its welcome. Between Sora and Riku’s story, you have to fight this asshole six times! That’s just ridiculous for any boss in any game! And then there’s what the whole “replica” concept he introduced was used for in subsequent games, since Nomura just loves taking the simple and making it convoluted.

Positive: The GBA Graphics - This is one of the best-looking GBA games ever, hands-down. The fact that full cutscenes with PS2-style graphics were actually able to fit on the cartridge is simply incredible, and Square should really be commended for pushing the system to its absolute limits.

Negative: Console Spread - COM marked the first time that a KH game was put on an entirely different console than before, being a GBA game released and set in between two PS2 games. This wasn’t too much of a problem back then, since COM was only needed to fully understand the purposefully confusing prologue of KH2 and it ended up getting a PS2 remake anyway. But after a while, the sheer amount of consoles that KH spin-off games that are necessary to understand KH3′s story with became ridiculous. At this point, the only way you can actually get the full KH series is to own a PS4. If you don’t, then you’re out of luck.

Positive: Disney Expansion - Because this game re-uses Disney characters and worlds from the original KH, Daisuke Watanabe got to expand on things that weren’t really delved into in that game. We get more on Aladdin’s character, more on Alice’s character, more on Peter Pan and Wendy’s characters, more on Belle and the Beast’s characters and relationship…and perhaps most notable of all, more on Jiminy Cricket’s character. The Disney worlds and characters that we saw in KH are all enriched by their memory-based appearances.

Negative: An Influx of OCs - The original KH only had four original characters: Sora, Riku, Kairi and Ansem (five if you are counting Xemnas from Final Mix). COM introduced nine new ones: Namine, Axel, Larxene, Marluxia, Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Riku Replica, and DiZ. Again, this wasn’t a problem with the game back then, especially seeing as two-thirds of those characters get axed before the game is through. But it started the trend of Nomura introducing way too much OCs that come to overshadow all the Disney and FF characters. Worse still, he refuses to truly let any of them go, as all six of those dead characters end up coming back to life later on, as do the two who went on to perish in KH2. This results in an overly cluttered canvas by KH3, to the point where no FF characters can appear.

Positive: Set-up for KH2 - This game’s existence did for KH2 what the later Dream Drop Distance should have done for KH3 but didn’t: it effectively set the stage for the following game. It gave all of the necessary foreshadowing for things like Nobodies, the Organization’s true goal, Xemnas, Roxas, Twilight Town, Namine being Kairi’s Nobody, and DiZ being the true Ansem while the Ansem we knew being an impostor. It also removed five members of the Organization from the board, with the sixth slated for removal in KH2′s prologue, which left the villain roster at a much more manageable number for the game’s main scenario. COM truly feels like the middle installment of a trilogy: the shit that happens in it actually matters.

Negative: Too Much Rehash from KH1 - There is so much from the original KH that is on repeat in COM. Beyond the same Disney worlds and characters being re-used, the stories in those worlds and with those characters match the original KH’s beat for beat, except with themes of memory inserted in and all context to the larger narrative removed so that they feel like filler. Both recycling from the first KH and Disney world visits being filler were not so bad in this game, but when it kept happening throughout the rest of the series, players grew sick of it. Furthermore, beats from the first KH still transpire in the main storyline of the game: Namine is in a role like Kairi’s, the Riku Replica is in a role like Riku’s, Marlxuia is in a role like both Maleficent and Ansem while Ansem himself comes back for more fun darkness times in Riku’s story, and we get sequences of Sora being separated from Donald and Goofy (this time it’s flipped and he’s the one who turns on them), the trio making an “All for One, One for All” promise as they put their hands on one another, and Sora making a promise with Namine that has Kairi’s good luck charm at the center of it. It’s all a little too much familiarity.

Positive: Atmosphere - As much as this game rehashes the previous one, it has a markedly different tone. It’s darker, more foreboding, more eerie, more psychological and uncertain. The white walls of Castle Oblivion and the creepy music playing as you go through them floor by floor really helps to sell this, as does a lot of the dialogue, memory-based insights into the characters’ hearts, and twisted machinations of the villains. It makes COM, well, memorable.

Negative: Convoluted Writing - That’s right, it all starts here. The writing for the original KH was smart enough to not actively dwell on the more ponderous elements of its story, keeping the narrative to a simple presentation while leaving the deeper lore as stuff for the player to think and speculate about it on their own. But in this game, it starts getting pushed to the forefront. Memory and darkness are the central themes of Sora and Riku’s story respectively, and yet neither of them quite make sense the way they’re explored. Memory is repeatedly said to be an aspect of the heart, to the point where removing it altogether would shatter a person’s heart completely. Except that this is not only confusing to basic logic that says memory is an aspect of the mind, but it gets contradicted by the following game, KH2, where it states that Nobodies that have no hearts act upon the memories of when they had hearts. Then we have Namine’s powers and how it relates to memories, which is nebulously defined here and ends up ballooning to ludicrous godlike degrees in order to make certain plot turns happen in later games, and you end up retroactively questioning why she didn’t just fuck with the Organization’s memories and shatter them in order to escape captivity all by herself.

Meanwhile, darkness is completely rewritten so that it can be a good thing if Riku isn’t afraid of it and uses it for a good cause...except that this is literally what he did in the first KH and it corrupted him. Darkness was unambiguously bad and something that should not be used in that game, but now it’s being revamped just to make Riku into a special snowflake with uber-awesome darkness powers. Future games continue going back and forth on darkness on whether it’s good, bad or neutral, whether it’s a natural force that needs to co-exist with light or whether it’s the source of all evil in the universe. And I again must remind you that this is only the start of how convoluted the series gets with its stories! By KH3, the series has become an absolute clusterfuck where nothing really makes sense or amounts to anything. There’s no real depth anymore, just pretentious nonsense that Nomura confuses for depth.

Favoritecharacter: Oh that’s really a hard one but I would have tosay Itsuki. I feel terribly sorry for the poor lad and I suppose Isomewhere can relate to his idealism. He tries his best even thoughit ends up making things a whole lot worse!

LeastFavorite character: Mayu. Just… Mayu. To explain mythoughts: she was made to be this driving force, for you to want torescue her and make it out but when this little shit gets “possessed”for the five millionth time and continues to whine about you leavingher behind, I’ll gladly go to the hellish abyss and shove her inthere myself.

5Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): That’s gonna be a nofrom me. Most of the cast is either dead or underage, so it is not mycup of tea to ship stuff.

Arandom thought:Am I the only one who thinks that the designs in the remake were atad inappropriate? I know they aged them up from their original ageof 15 but I really did not fancy the cleavage, big boobs and cutebutton nose appearances ^^’

Anunpopular opinion: Don’t know if this is an unpopular opinionor not but I don’t think this is the best Project Zero/Fatal framegame. I know this is generally a fan favourite and I like it but Ithink that some of the others are way better/better story.

MyCanon OTP: There isn’t any what I know? So this one goesblank.

MyNon-canon OTP: See above.

MostBadass Character: Mio, hands down. She’s in a situation wheremost people would probably drop dead of fright yet here she is,yeeting ghosts left and right to save a sister that seems a tad toomanipulative for my taste.

MostEpic Villain: Sae. The writing really came off good here,through the notes you get that she has been feed an ideal from birthand that it motivates her to unthinkable places. This makes her bothsympathetic and really bad ass. Her boss fight is about as fun asdoing Pilates on top of acid though…

PairingI am not a fan of: Everyone can do what they wish butpersonally I’m no fan of underage ships, specially not in the sexualsense.

CharacterI feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Mayu.It makes it hard for me to fully enjoy the game when I see what theywere going for. For me, if they had just added some scene/plot of Mioloosing her shit with her and actually showing that there might besome friction from Mio’s side about Mayu’s complete dependence onher, it could have worked so much better. Heck, have Mio tell Mayuoff for being a burden and then have Mayu try to help and getcaptured. This could work to show that Mio were acting under stressand regrets it and drive the player to want to find Mayu more thanbefore and not just see her as an overbearing burden with a strangesister obsession.

FavouriteFriendship: The friendship between Itsuki, Mutsuki, Sae andYae seems to have been rather sweet when they were all younger. Also,the sibling relationship between Itsuki, Mutsuki and Chitose isreally sweet.

CharacterI most identify with: My own head canon has made Mio kind ofa 100 % done character and I guess I identify with that. But that isnot the canon appearance of her so take that with a pinch of salt.

CharacterI wish I could be: Can I say Sae? Can I just get to… floataround, laugh like a maniac and bring a bit of fuck up to the world?

002| Send me a ship and I will tell you: Gascoigne/Henryk

WhenI started shipping them: Honestly,almost from the start. I was really into a ship with Gascoigne and anOC but slowly this one grew on me as one of my ships between canoncharacters. When I ship this I also keep Viola in there, as a partnerthat joins at times and at times not, just like Henryk sometimes doesnot join Viola/Gascoigne.

Mythoughts: Justtwo old dudes being hunter pals am I right? I adore them because Iimagine such a lot of warmth and kindness between the two, not tomention the mutual understanding of how hard it is to go throughhunts and all what that means.

Whatmakes me happy about them: Thethought of them being dorks when hunting. Of a tricky situation inwhich the solution was Gascoigne taking Henryk on his shoulders andhe runs through the town while Henryk throws poison knives ateverything within a 10 mile radius.

Whatmakes me sad about them: *Grosssobbing as I look at canon fates*

Thingsdone in fanfic that annoys me:Any jealousy or implications that Viola is a bitch who destroys thegay ship, boho. I really hate love triangles, let them all be in themost wonderful of polyamorous relationships dang it!

ThingsI look for in fanfic:Hurt/comfort without it going into “crawling in my skin”territory. Fluff and goofy situations, I love to see charactersactually have flaws and be able to be dorks and mess up without itbeing a big deal aka I hate when characters are portrayed as flawlesshunks who’s only flaws is that they are so brooding TM .

003| Give me a character & I will tell you: Jennifer (Rule of Rose)

HowI feel about this character: Iwant to protect her so bad. As someone who has been the meek weakbutt of all jokes for bigger part of their childhood, I just want toprotect Jennifer so gosh darn much!

Any/allthe people I ship romantically with this character:My answer is Jennifer/Wendy but I want it known that I see this as apuppy love. There is a difference between the romance that you haveat that age (and I mean this is canon) and how adults view romance.

Myfavorite non-romantic relationship for this character:I always liked to imagine that Jennifer had some sort of silentfriendship with Eleanor. The sort of thing where she would beconvinced Eleanor didn’t even know she were there but then besurprised that she were included in her drawings or were given somelittle trinket. (It all ties in with my own headcanon that Eleanor ison the autism spectrum and have a hard time expressingemotions/connections over all.)

Myunpopular opinion about this character: Don’tthink I have any but the closest I can get is probably, I wish thestory had actually been child!Jennifer instead of the morepsychological but nonsensical retelling. I understand why they didNOT go for that though: imagine trying to pass a game through thatages censorship on “yeah a young girl gets constantly bullied andchased by monsters!”. I like to imagine that inbetween the cruelty of children there were actually some genuinefriendships. That and I totally wanna headcanon that Jennifer andClara got along very good as Jennifer were a quiet child that didn’tpester with too many questions which Clara probably appreciated. Alsolike to imagine that since Clara had her own issues and feeling leftout as a young teenage girl she would take pity on Jennifer for beingthe runt of the litter around the orphanage.

Part 13: From Hell’s Heart I Stab at Thee

We’ve waited long and hard for this people and we are finally here. The world where we finally, finally get high jump.

Also there is some shit about Pinocchio and Riku does unambiguously evil shit and the nature of the soul is discussed. So let’s do this!

Before we get there, though, we need to go back to Traverse Town and actually meet Pinocchio. Once you get the green trinity and can unlock the moogle shop, head to the Accessory Shop. Pinocchio is chilling on the ground and talking to him unlocks a cutscene. Jiminy and Pinocchio have a whole conversation about lying. Both of them seem to have assumed that Geppetto was with the other.

With that out of the way, try to fly somewhere on the right side of the map past Agrabah. Unfortunately we aren’t getting there anytime soon, because right the fuck out of nowhere Monstro comes and swallows the gummi ship. (Also, in my most recent play through, I realized I’d never met Pinocchio after Agrabah and I decided to just go back to my last save to meet him, only to find I never saved following beating Jafar and had to go through those fights again. Whoops!)

This leads into a flashback I’m pretty sure is a Final Mix addition with Sora and Riku when they were roughly five and six respectively. Sora tries to convince Riku that there is a monster in the secret place on Destiny Islands, but the exploration there shows it was just the wind howling through the hole in the roof of the cave. One thing I noticed is that the walls don’t have all the graffiti on them, so I guess my assumption that generations of kids were drawing there was wrong. Riku notices the very obvious door, but since it won’t open, he quickly deems it boring. Riku then makes Sora promise that when they are older, they are going to leave the Destiny Islands and go exploring places that aren’t so dull. That’s cool with Sora, but for now they are going to have to settle for going to see the new girl at the mayor’s house.

Sora wakes up inside the mouth of the whale and it is clear that the whale has been swallowing a lot of ships, but they are all wooden. Who the fuck is using wooden ships to fly around space? Like, that can’t be airtight? I mean, I guess this universe has an atmosphere in outer space because that’s the only way Monstro makes sense. Probably is oxygen rich too, judging by his size.

Anyway, Donald and Goofy are pissed because someone keeps throwing items at them from on top of a woodpile, and wouldn’t you know, it’s Pinocchio! This is somewhat worrying because he was last seen in Traverse Town. Pinocchio grabs a thing and heads back to the only intact boat in the whale’s mouth.

When you catch up to Pinocchio, Sora asked how he got there. GOOD FUCKING QUESTION. We never get an answer, by the way. Geppetto introduces himself as Pinocchio’s father instead.

Gepetto apparently never bothered to instill his child with a fear of strangers, because Pinocchio goes wandering off after Riku. How long does everyone think Pinocchio is going to last as a real boy before he gets himself killed through negligence? Yeah Blue Fairy, giving him a sense of honesty was a way more important priority that teaching the kid common sense.

It’s pretty gross that this level is the literal belly of a whale. Walking around makes all these little squishing noises. But it does mean I’m singing the Decemberists to myself the whole time. I also wish the heartless in here were more themed after bacteria like the boss. I’ve never gotten the ghosts either here or in Atlantica. Never.

A bigger issue with the level design is that all of the chambers basically look the same and they all seem to cross back into each other. It makes navigating around confusing as all hell. There are also sections that are easy to fall off and you have to start completely over.

Anyway, you run after Pinocchio. Sora tells the puppet that now is not the time to be playing games, but a voice behind says “But I thought you liked playing games, Sora.” Riku follows up with asking if maybe Sora’s too cool for that now that he’s the keyblade wielder. Riku grabs Pinocchio and drags him off.

After going through the awful maze that is the inside of Monstro, Sora and co. manage to catch up. Before they do, we do get a little scene with Riku and Maleficent. She wants to know if he still cares about Sora. Riku brushes that off, saying he’s just messing with his ex-bff, and Maleficent gives some of her usual “beware the darkness in your heart” advice, which Riku does not appreciate. When Sora gets there, we get a fight. Sora wants to know what’s up with Riku and Riku retorts that all Sora seems to do now is “run around and show off that keyblade”. He frames it as “Do you even want to save Kairi?” Their fight is derailed by Pinocchio screaming in the next room.

Heading to the bowels (ew), we find that Pinocchio’s managed to get himself trapped by the Parasite Cage. Riku is more than happy to jump into battle with Sora and company, and for a moment, we get what should have been if Riku hadn’t ended up at Hollow Bastion. They work well together. Too bad it won’t last.

Parasite Cage coughs out Pinocchio and Riku immediately follows the pupped down the hole. When Sora goes to, he finds Geppetto pleading with Riku to return Pinocchio. Riku refuses. See he’s there because Pinocchio is a puppet with a heart and he gives us our first hint that Kairi has lost hers. However, he’s not going to elaborate.

The fight with Parasite Cage disturbed Monstro enough that the water in his mouth has gone down, allowing more areas to be accessed. Even better, there’s a new chest on Geppetto’s boat that gives us the best gift of all. Oh high jump, how I’ve missed thee.

Heading to the stomach by way of the throat (again, ew, and also does the internal anatomy of this whale make any sense?) we find Riku and a non-responsive Pinocchio. Riku hopes that “a puppet that’s lost its heart to the heartless” is the key to saving Kairi. He tries to convince Sora to join him but Sora isn’t having it. This isn’t right. Riku is angered that Sora would choose a puppet over him and Kairi. Sora’s retort, “Heart or no heart, at least he still has a conscious” is great from both a comeback point of view and also because said conscious runs over to beg Pinocchio to wake up. For probably the first time, Jiminy is thrilled when Pinocchio lies, saying he isn’t going to make it, so it turns out that Pinocchio is actually totally fine. Sora and Riku gear up to fight when Parasite Cage shows up again to crash the party. Riku teleports away and we get a reprise of the previous fight, now with acid! After killing the Parasite Cage, Sora tries to find Riku, having not seen him leave.

Monstro sneezes you out and everything’s okay! The team do go “hm, I’m sure Pinocchio and Geppetto are fine” which is kind of a dick move. I would be way more concerned considering that they are traveling space in a wooden boat. Which for the record they didn’t even take, it is still in Monstro on subsequent visits.

The last bit we get is Riku and Maleficent on Hook’s ship. Riku has indeed managed to find Kairi, but her heart is gone. Maleficent says it was the heartless’s doing and that the only way to find out how to save her is to open the door to Kingdom Hearts with the seven princesses of heart. I think that this is the first title drop, by the by. Riku agrees to help, because he’s gone too far down this road to stop now, and Maleficent gives him the power to control the heartless. This will end well.

I’m torn about how I feel about Monstro. The level design is, as I said before, terrible. But storywise, this stuff is great. The contrast between the technically not alive Pinocchio with a heart and the real girl Kairi without one is fantastic. Honestly it might be the best use of a Disney character within the first game. Pinocchio having a heart is also somewhat retroactively foreshadowing for Dream Drop Distance, so put a pin in that. We will be revisiting this idea.

Riku’s arc also gets a lot of development here. Earlier I said that I believed Riku is mainly jealous that Sora is special now but I’m revising that theory a bit. Don’t get me wrong, jealousy is still a big component of this fall to the dark side (especially considering his “too cool now that you’ve got a keyblade” comments), but I think that Riku ultimately is more upset about Sora having new friends than I originally gave him credit for. Riku strikes me as the kind of person that makes friends with a lot of effort, unlike Sora who is your friend if you are within each other’s general proximity and you aren’t actively evil. Even worse, while Sora has trusted companions, Riku is surrounded by the villains who he knows better than to trust completely. I think that Riku is also refusing to acknowledge the jealousy that is going on by convincing himself that Sora really never cared about him or Kairi. To Riku, he’s the one that’s actually doing something to help her. And Maleficent is fueling these thoughts for her own gain. But she hasn’t been totally successful and knows it. Riku’s attempts to convince Sora to help him at the end are definitely from a place of wanting them to go back to their previous dynamic. But it’s too late.

Speaking of Maleficent, I honestly couldn’t remember if she already knows that Kairi is one of the princesses of heart or not. The more I think about it, the more I want to say no, she thinks Wendy is the last one. Right? We’ll see, I guess.

so this guide is going to be a very very basic overview of what it’s like to WORK AT DISNEY WORLD (pt. 1)! i have a somewhat in depth knowledge of the process and what it’s actually like to be working there because i worked there doing the college program for 5 months. this will be a v v basic overview though and maybe if i feel like it, i’ll do a college program version as well, but here it is!! please like or reblog if you found this helpful!!

AFTER YOU’RE HIRED!

i only know about how you get hired via the disney college program so i’m going to gloss over that, though i will say that for the dcp you apply online, have a web interview, then a phone interview and then you find out whether or not you join the cast!!

CASTING!!!! i know for the dcp we didn’t know what role we had and what location we were going to be at until we got there, but i can’t speak for normal disney cast members. all i know is that no matter what you’ll end up at the casting building at downtown disney to get your assignment and scan fingerprints and all that!!

TRADITIONS!!!! god i’m so lit just thinking about it. traditions is the day that you’re called in to learn all about the history of disney and hear a bunch of stories about how disney has touched the lives of so many. it’s business casual, and disney is VERY strict about this. i watched a girl take off her lipstick bc a cast member told her it was too bright. basically you go to disney university and you get told a bunch of heart-warming stuff, you do some trivia and earn some figurines if you answer correctly, and there’s a box sitting in the middle of your table the whole time which you aren’t allowed to open until the end. they take you to magic kingdom and they have you wear these headsets that don’t rly work and they take you backstage through the tunnels and up into some part of magic and you just like observe what’s going on and you learn about some of the neato things you only get to learn as a cast member. then you go back to Disney University and mickey mouse himself comes to give you your name tag. of course, at the end, you get to open the box and there’s your very own pair of mickey ears waiting inside. it’s honestly life changing.

okay, so after you have to go through this thing called operations. basically you go to DU and you’re split up into groups based on your role. your roles include:

food and beverage (quick service or full service)

retail (bibbidi bobbidi boutique/floral/merchandise/vacation planner)

entertainment (character performer/character attendant/costuming)

lodging (bell services/front desk/housekeeper)

recreation (children’s activities/lifeguard/recreation attractions)

operations (attractions/custodial/photopass)

and basically what you do in ops is you spend a full day taking a bunch of internet quizzes about personal safety, osha standards, and how to handle situations like unattended suspicious bags and lost children (although at disney they don’t say they’re lost children they say they have lost parents)

i’m gonna be honest, it’s real boring. like 90% of my day was spent trying not to fall asleep. but something else important to disney that you learn during ops are THE FOUR KEYS! The Four Keys are how Disney moderates how they’re doing as a business. The Four Keys are as followed:

EFFICIENCY

SHOW

you will get tested on these often.

**quick note about safety. disney’s slogan for being safe while on property is “SAFE-D BEGINS WITH ME!” every cast member makes so many dick jokes using that phrase. please do it it’s so funny.**

then once you’re done with ops you’re typically sent for costuming which i’ll get into a little bit later probably bc there’s not rly that much to say on it right now other than like, just do a quick google to find out what your character will be wearing for wherever they work.

STARTING WORK!

so depending on which park you’re assigned to work (note: you will not park hop unless you’re deployed or you pick up shifts. pick one park and stick to it.) you have an orientation day. each park has a cutesy name for it

DAKlimation (disney’s animal kingdom)

once upon a time (magic kingdom)

discovery day (epcot)

on with the show (hollywood studios)

this is basically a full day of walking around the parks, learning some of the secrets behind the theming and getting accustomed to the backstage areas. you also might ride a ride if you’re lucky (we rode kilimanjaro safaris at DAK). then you’ll start your on the job training. this can range from a week to two weeks depending and at the end of training you are tested on your knowledge of all the skills you learned during training. ((if anyone is interested in lifeguarding or quick service specifically pls don’t hesitate to ask!)) and through all this training you get to wear a cute little “earning my ears” sticker on your name tag!!

ROLES!!

honestly you can do a quick google about any of the roles above, but pls feel free to ask me questions too bc i know a lot about qsfb, lifeguarding, merch and character performer especially. i’m just going to highlight some common misconceptions (imo) below.

character performer: OKAY SO THIS IS WHERE I GET REAL NITPICKY!!! this paragraph is gonna be long so settle in. to be a character performer YOU HAVE TO GO TO AN AUDITION. and let me tell you, it is not easy. it is very likely that if you are a character performer you have auditioned a very good number of times bc disney is so specific in what they’re looking for. and character performer isn’t just someone in a costume or a lookalike. it extends to parades, shows, and even street performers like the citizens of hollywood in hollywood studios.

there are a few different types of auditions too. they have character performer auditions where they are just generally looking for performers, but they can pull you aside for lookalikes. in character performer auditions you do a parade dance that increases in difficulty the further you go along if you haven’t been cut. in lookalike auditions you literally go into a room in groups of 50 and smile at a man for like 5 seconds and then they cut based off of that. ((if anyone wants a more detailed guide on this i can do it bc i have auditioned for disney 5 times doing both kinds of auditions))

height ranges!!!! this is also a huge thing for me bc some of yall stay trying to play like a 5′7″ bitch as tinkerbell. disney is usually pretty good about sticking to particular height rangers for costumed and face characters.

most princesses are within the 5′4″-5′7″ range. alice and wendy are usually between 4′10″-5′2″. most costumed characters with the exclusion of most villains and goofy are between 4′11″-5′4″. 5′4″ is definitely at the v top of the height range though and might be pushing it tbh. these are all based on what i know to be true myself having met a shit ton of princesses and character performers, but there are deviants for sure. basically don’t use taylor swift as an fc for alice. cool??? cool.

quick service food and beverage: once you’re in a restaurant you typically stay there. although qsfb can also extend to outdoor vending (odv) in which case you would rotate from cart to cart (they’re the ones that sell the mickey bars and pretzels n shit), but if you work in a restaurant you typically don’t switch between that and odv.

WORLD SHOWCASE @ EPCOT: if you’re in the world showcase, the people that work in the different countries are usually authentically from there. it would be very, very rare to have a white/european person working at one of the restaurants in mexico. i’ve honestly never met someone who wasn’t from their assigned country that worked there. i’m speaking specifically about the world showcase and not any other part of epcot. many world showcase cast members are part of the cultural representative program which means they come for 12 months and they work in either the world showcase in epcot, animal kingdom, animal kingdom lodge, or international guest relations/greeter roles. basically, if you’re gonna have your character work in a world showcase pavilion, make them from that country pls.

attractions: if you work attractions, you are most likely not just working at one ride for your entire life. for example: in adventureland in magic kingdom, those attractions workers work aladdin’s magic carpet ride, the enchanted tiki room, swiss family robinson treehouse and anything else in the area. basically if a land or a certain area within the park has the same costume, you’re working all of it so i’d familiarize yourself with just how many attractions your character might be working.

**quick note again: not every job is within a disney park. you may get a job at disney springs, water parks, or resorts!!!**

WORK THINGS!!!

when you’re working, disney has you on a strict points system. if you’re late to work, they dock you half a point. if you miss your shift/call out, they dock you a point. if you get 3 points within 30 days you get what’s called a reprimand. and this is not good my friends. you get 3 reprimands within 3 months and you’re out. like out out. like turn in your blue card and get out. you can get authorized days off or (ADO’s) but you have to request off like crazy early or get someone to take your shift.

ahh!!! blue cards!!!! your blue card, or blue ID, is what identifies you as a cast member at disney. it’s also what you flash to bypass paying for parking, and it’s what gets you through the gates to get you backstage at disney. you don’t have it, you’re fucked basically. blue IDs also get you discounts on merchandise and food at some QSFB restaurants.

MAIN GATES!!!! your key to the kingdom!!! your maingate is your entry pass to all the parks. it serves as a park hopper. you also get 3 guest passes which, depending on if you’re a cp, part time or full time has so many passes on it for whomever you wish to bring with you into the parks.

you answer to two people while you work at disney. your coordinators and your leaders. your coordinators are out on stage with you and there’s usually like 2-4 of them depending on how large your location is. they’re who you ask for help in a pinch. your leaders are like your managers. they give you a briefing in the morning before you open, they make tough calls, and they have to ability to smooth over almost any situation effortlessly. if you have a reeeeally angry guest, you better call ur leader.

when you’re not on stage, you are backstage. i literally cannot stress this enough. if you’re on break you should not be seen or heard. there are break rooms for every section of each park and if you’re not on your feet, you’re back there. they’re not nice. they’re small, crowded, and usually smell. there are larger cafeterias within every park though (at DAK ours was called PRIDE ROCK) but they’re usually quite a walk depending on where you work.

BREAKS!!! if you’re working at disney that means you’re typically spending 6+ hours on your feet and however long your shift is is how long your break is. 6 hour shift?? you’ve probably got one 15 min break. 8 hours?? prolly one 30 min. break. 10 hours??? that’s when you get the hour long break. oh also that 10 hour shift you were scheduled for?? it just turned into a 13 hour shift thanks to a force extend. you’re welcome. but you’re in luck!!! sometimes you get an early release or an ER!!! that’s when they don’t need you so they’re like fuck it go home.

oh also everything is in military time.

GLOSSARY (terms cast members use a lot)

cast members - if you work for the walt disney company you are a cast member, not an employee

DU - disney university (yes it exists and it’s fuckin baller on the inside)

company d - this is a store inside disney university. it’s where you can get exclusive cast merch and also you can buy your discounted party tickets there

cast connections - ok this is honestly disney’s best kept secret. cast connections is this huge store where u can buy so much shit for like 75% off. they even have a small grocery section where everything is hella cheap. you have to be cast to buy shit.

costuming - where you go to get your costumes duh. there’s one at every park, but magic kingdom’s is at west clock.

west clock - ok so basically not all mk cast is allowed to park in the parking lot like at other parks so there’s this thing called west clock that has a huge parking lot and it’s where disney university and magic king costuming is. you go to west clock and then take a bus to get to magic.

tunnels/utilidor - backstage at MK consists of the utilidors or tunnels as they’re often called. MK is the only park with tunnels and they’re fuckin extensive. there are colored lines on the walls that can direct you to where you need to go, but it’s still confusing as hell.

qsfb/fsfb - quick service/full service food and beverage

merch - merchandise

odv - outdoor vending

stands west/stands east - a variation of working merchandise in the parks. you work at the small stands instead of the shops

four keys card - if a fellow cast member or guest thinks you’ve successfully exemplified the four keys, they give you a four keys card. this is for recognition and it also takes a point off of your record.

MK - magic kingdom

DAK - disney’s animal kingdom

DHS - disney’s hollywood studios

CP - college program

ER - early release

force extend - when they fucking extend your shift without asking u

ADO - authorized day off

deployed - sometimes you get asked to work in a different park for a few days or weeks, they call this being deployed.

on stage - when you’re on the job in front of guests

backstage - the areas where you can’t be seen by guests

guests - not customers, guests.

honestly there’s probably so much more i need to cover, but that’s just a lil taste of what it’s like to work at disney. i might add onto this later or just make a second guide. if you have any questions about anything specific, the disney college program, qsfb or animal kingdom rly let me know bc i know the most about those things, but i’m knowledgeable in A LOT of other stuff too.

Bojack Horseman: you’ve possibly already seen this but I would do a disservice if I didn’t include it. It’s genuinely the best animated series I have ever had the joy of watching and the pinnacle of adult animation. It’s inclusive, smart, very heavy and bojack is…he the kind of main character you don’t wanna relate to but you will • tw for drug and alcohol abuse, mentions of and implications of child abuse, and homophobia (gay character is fired and contracts prostate cancer ), and slight pedophilia ( bojack almost drunkenly sleeps with a teenager, technically legal in that state and she was sober but ewe no to the shows credit it’s painted as a BAD thing )

Home: the adventures of oh and tipp it’s a 2d animated series based around the dreamworks movie and it’s actually incredibly cute fun decompression stuff • tw for transphobia I think? they make some jokes about the alien races genders and like…..I can’t tell if it’s a transphobic joke or trying to teach kids pronoun usage tbfh

The batman idk how you feel about superhero stuff but the batman is a pretty stylish and interesting take in batman mythos and the art style is that kind of awkward but captivating and interesting. it really stands out if that makes sense

my little pony: equestria girls movies: okay hear me out, they’re actually pretty good ( so is the show in my frank opinion but the movies are a good jumping on point ) the movies take place in a more human world and rainbow rocks is legitimately fucking awesome with kick ass music and they’re all S U P E R gay with butch lesbian supreme sunset shimmer

the tinker bell movies: they’re centered around a whole world of fairies and like I’m psure they might not be 2d animation but they’re honestly worth a watch, just pure and fun.

lolirock:

cute french based cartoon about three magical pop star princesses and it was the show everyone was excited about because there’s a black magical girl. it’s just super beautiful and sweet and bubblegum but it’ll get you in the heart too

Glitter force:

it’s one of the few precure anime we dubbed and it just …. it’s silly and kinda dumb but if you just want pure cotton candy and sparkles this is the anime for you. the main girl has a deep love of fairy tails and happy ever after like 💕💕

Winx:

again a little shallow seeming and the art style takes some getting used to but it’s a big organic world of magic and wonder that will draw you in and genuinely surprise you in some places

Horseland:

it’s a pretty diverse show about a bunch of young girls and their magic talking horses they don’t know can talk. it’s again more feel good kid stuff but it tackled native cultural appropriation and litterly called out the white girl wearing native headdress so it gets bonus points from me

the last unicorn:

justice League / justice League unlimited:

this show is dated af and is about future batman in the fuuuture man sjjzjqjejriejr it’s super great though and is just a nice take on a young batman still balancing school and life

the goofy movie

just a really nice hilarious movie that gets a lot more on the nose the older you get plus I’m still not over Roxanes character design it’s really aces

Balto;

again a lot of my love for this movie comes from its animation but it’s a pretty heartwarming story about what someone can achieve for those they love

I’m sneaking in Wendy wu homecoming warrior despite it being live action because it’s an actually fascinating Disney movie with a really cool mythos and ACTUALLY HAS A PREDOMINANTLY ASIAN CAST go figure sjsjsjdje

Atlantis:

I have a deep love for this movie and it doesn’t get near the recognition it deserves. it subverts the damsel in distress trope without being patronizing about it. we get a lovable scrawny nerd that’s actually respectful of the cultures he studies and his goddess of a future wife and like it was a movie written by mostly white people that managed to portray a tribal element without seeming racist

lucha Libre and really cute oft forgotten cartoon about latinx children in training to become luchadors like their parents

ao no exorcist:

is a really intense anime with catholic themes that really goes deep into the concept of nature vs nurture and has a pretty gay coded protagonist and focuses more on his familial relationship with his brother and the strain it’s gone under vs his possible romances

ruroni Kenshin and samurai champloo are good old classic anime if you’re looking for that old school feudal Japan feeling and adventure and rag tag looser building a family

K is a pretty fascinating anime in that if I explained too much I’d ruin the fun of discovering it yourself tho hey more queer coding

detective conan is a fucking awesome mystery anime but at like eight billion episodes and counting I wouldn’t worry too much about it sjajhdejskkf

Karneval is a really cute and funny, pretty anime following a sweet amnesiac child as he joins the circus to find the one he loves, and yes more queer coding like haRD

yu yu hakusho:

literally my favorite anime ever in existence and I’ll just keep this short it follows a demon hunter as life continues to screw him over and he survives

assassination classroom:.

is actually a very weirdly heartwarming story about a bunch of kids tasked to assassinate their teacher ( I swear it’s weirder than it sounds ( but it’s definitely not a book to be judged by its cover

Majin tentai nogami neuro: is a very interesting and in depth murder mystery anime about a demon who literally eats mysteries and enlists the help of a human girl to open up a detective agency. warning tho shit gets DARK near the end

petshop of horrors:

this is an ova series so it’s just a couple episodes but it’s a hauntingly creepy and fun look and an eccentric pet shop owner that offers his clients … dubious pets that would be fine if these guys would just follow the rules of ownership he gives them

xxxholic:

again kind of a mystery anime but with far more magic and I’m pretty positive it’s canon one of the male characters is unrequitely in love with the main guy, and the art style is definitely an aquired taste but it’s worth it

Beauty of A Secret

I have a norman request for you. Hopefully you like. You've been working on the set of TWD as a stylist for a while and you and norman have been secretly dating for the last several months. You've just found out you're pregnant but you're terrified to tell Norman... every time you try someone interrupts for whatever reason. He finds out accidentally n doesn't handle it very well at first. I hav several idea of how to really make this into a long fic if you're interested. Love your stuff xx

Alright, I know what you guys must be thinking…she’s starting a new story? This girl takes forever to post updates AND requested one shots. What the flippity flop girl? I’M SORRY OKAY THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA AND I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL AND I JUST WANNA WRITE EVERYTHING hahaha and this just means you guys will get a third requested one shot so it’ll still be equal rotation. I swear I will be better at updating more haha I was on a roll in the beginning. My first few followers remember hahaha but I’ve fallen behind like a chump. Just so you guys know, she’s getting a name since this will be a full fanfiction. So I hope you enjoy this!!

Chapter One: October 27, 2010

It was crazy the way life took off without you even knowing how fast you were going. Until one day, you wake up feeling like an entirely different person in an entirely different world.

At least, that’s the way Wendy Harper felt. She never expected this massive level of success in such a short amount of time. One day she was doing hair and makeup for short film projects with her friends to being on a real life set. It was for a show that was based on a comic book series. That wasn’t on Wendy’s list of interests but she did enjoy zombie movies and this would be a TV show involving a lot of zombies.

It was called The Walking Dead. She joined the crew about halfway through filming so it was a little awkward joining a group of people that were already close. Of course, everyone was so nice to her and welcomed her with open arms but it didn’t take away from the awkwardness.

Thankfully, she wasn’t alone in that feeling. The same day she’d joined the crew, someone else had joined the cast, playing a rather cranky redneck. But the actor himself, Norman Reedus, was completely different from his character, Daryl Dixon. He apparently liked working with Wendy the most because she was new like him and they had bonded over that.

Norman was such a sweetheart. Everything his fans said about him was a hundred percent true. He was goofy and weird and had the most wonderful smile that was contagious. And that was just a few of the many things that made Wendy fall for him. They hadn’t known each other for very long but they had such a good time together that everything progressed so quickly but it still felt natural. It didn’t feel rushed or wrong. By June, they were dating. By July, Wendy had her own drawer in his apartment where she was staying quite frequently.

They hadn’t told anyone about their relationship. And with Wendy’s new following on twitter and Instagram, that was definitely the way she wanted to keep it. She’d been guilty of snooping around the internet and she’d seen how some of Norman’s fans had spoken about his previous girlfriends and Wendy didn’t want anyone being so horrible to her. Did she care about what people thought of her? No, not really. But it still would hurt to see such mean things like that. No one could be possibly be bullet proof like that. Still, Wendy had such strong feelings for Norman and the feeling was mutual. Whatever they were doing was working so they kept it private.

Wendy was enjoying her days of sleeping in. Being on the show forced her to be awake at the crack of dawn and last week she was flying all over the place with Norman. Finally, the two of them were getting a break. She was enjoying it now because when May came back around, she would be saying good-bye to sleep for the next few months.

Norman was sleeping soundly beside her, his arm draped over his eyes. Wendy rolled over, pushing his hair off his forehead and kissing his scruffy cheek. Norman grunted as his eyes fluttered open and he stretched his arms above his head.

“Morning,” he groaned. He moved his left arm and wrapped it around Wendy’s waist, gently stroking her back with his fingertips, “How’d you sleep?”

“I slept great,” Wendy replied, glancing out the window, the curtains open just enough to allow a little sunlight to peek through, “I have to get back to my own apartment today though.”

“Why?” Norman asked, his arm wrapping tighter around her and pulling her closer.

“I’ve slept here so much, I ran out of clean clothes,” Wendy said. She climbed out of bed and reached for her jeans that were folded on top of Norman’s dresser.

“I have a washer and dryer,” Norman countered.

“That’s not the point,” Wendy giggled. Norman hugged her from behind and threw himself back, falling back into bed and taking Wendy down with him. Wendy squealed, playfully smacking Norman’s arms until he let go of her, “Norman! You’re crazy.”

Wendy stood up once more and Norman allowed it, sitting at the side of the bed as he watched her get dressed. Once she was all ready to go, she stood between his legs and ran her fingers through his hair.

“I’ll only be gone for a few hours,” she said, “And when I get back, we can give you a trim.”

“You seem to enjoy my hair,” Norman chuckled.

“I do,” Wendy replied, pushing all his hair back, “I can’t help it. Alright, I really do have to go. I’ll be back tonight and then I’m all yours the rest of the week.”

“The show premieres this Sunday,” Norman remarked, “You’ll be here for that?”

Wendy grabbed his face and crashed her lips onto his, “Of course I will. I wasn’t there for the first half so it’ll be fun seeing it with fresh eyes.”

“True,” Norman said.

As she picked up her duffel bag and her purse, she turned back to Norman and smirked, “Plus, I’ve gotta see how well my work held up!”

Norman had turned the premiere of The Walking Dead into an event. Wendy wasn’t surprised though. This was a huge moment for the two of them. It was new and exciting and for Wendy, it was her first major job. Her name would end up being in the end credits and she couldn’t wait for that.

“You’ve got popcorn,” Wendy said, holding up two glasses, “And I’ve got the wine.”

Norman took a piece of popcorn and popped it into his mouth, grinning as Wendy hurried into the kitchen, returning moments later with the bottle of wine. She flopped down on the couch beside him and started pouring, “I’m so excited. Can you tell my hands are shaking?”

“You’re fine,” Norman laughed, taking the bottle from Wendy’s hand, “Don’t be so nervous.”

“I don’t even know why I am,” Wendy muttered, “I didn’t even do anything on this episode.”

“Well, your moment’s coming up,” Norman said, kissing her cheek.

“This wine should loosen me up a little,” Wendy said as she started guzzling down her first glass of wine, allowing the sweet, tingly liquid slide down her throat. Norman did the same and refilled their glasses.

“I wouldn’t mind loosening up,” Norman said, sliding closer next to Wendy, handing her glass to her while his free hand slid up and down her thigh. Before she could look down at his hand, he pulled it away and lifted her chin, placing a delicate kiss on her lips.

“Hang on a second,” Wendy said, lightheartedly pushing him away with a giggle, “You’re in a real hurry, aren’t you? Don’t you wanna watch this episode first?”

“Yeah, I can wait an hour,” Norman mumbled, though he continued with kisses up and down her neck. Wendy tried to contain her pleasure since the episode would come on in less than a minute.

“Norman, if we’re gonna wait, you’re gonna have to stop,” Wendy mumbled, nearly lost in his kisses and in his touch as his hands slowly moved up her thighs, “I don’t want you to miss anything but in a minute, I won’t be able to resist.”

“You’re right,” Norman said, kissing Wendy’s lips one last time just as the episode was starting. He leaned back on the couch, holding Wendy close to him as she held the popcorn bowl on his lap, “Sorry, you just look so damn good tonight. But I’ll be patient. It’ll be worth the wait.”

Maybe it was the excitement of the premiere or of the future ahead of them or maybe it was just the wine kicking in but once the episode was over, the rest of the night was the best Wendy had ever spent with anyone. It was intense and it was sensual and she was so full of love it almost made her heart ache. And it got better in the weeks that followed. A week after the show premiered, it was renewed for another season. Everyone was responding to the new show so well. Wendy had such a wonderful new job and a loving, sweet, and caring boyfriend. Everything was working out in Wendy’s favor.

It was nearing Christmas now and Norman was working on their living arrangements for their stay in Georgia when they came back to start filming the second season. Despite it being their first Christmas together, they would be spending it apart. Norman would be with his son while Wendy would go back home to see her family. They hadn’t even told their own families about their relationship so they would have to do their own little Christmas on another day. With just a week left together before leaving for the holidays, they had some things to get done, which included their stay in Georgia.

“Wouldn’t it be cool to get a house out there?” Norman said, “You remember what it looked like. It was gorgeous, wasn’t it?”

“It really was,” Wendy said, “But the show is still so new. Maybe we should wait a little longer before we go and get a house.”

“I guess you’re right,” Norman said, “I don’t know, we’ll figure it out later. I’ve gotta get back to my apartment and finish packing. You need any help here before I leave?”

“No, I’ve got it,” Wendy said. She brought Norman to the front door and kissed him passionately, holding his face. Norman was surprised by the sudden show of affection but he didn’t fight it. He wrapped his arms around her waist and returned her kiss.

“Well thank you for that,” Norman said as Wendy pulled away and opened the door, “I’m really gonna miss you these next few weeks.”

“I’m gonna miss you too,” Wendy replied, “But soon, we’ll get back home and we’ll have our own little Christmas. Eventually, we’ll tell our family and friends about our relationship. Probably should in the next month considering our anniversary will be in June.”

“I’m surprised we’ve managed to keep it hidden this long,” Norman said, “Well, I’ll see you tomorrow morning and we’ll go to the airport together, okay?”

“Sounds good,” Wendy said, “I’ll see you tomorrow, sweetness.”

“See you.” Norman planted one last kiss on Wendy’s cheek before leaving her apartment, shutting the door behind him. She waited for a few minutes, listening to Norman’s footsteps getting quieter and quieter until they were gone. Wendy hurriedly locked the door and ran into her bathroom.

Wendy threw open her medicine cabinet, pulling out a plastic bag she’d kept hidden inside there for the past day, just waiting for Norman to leave. This was wrong. She should’ve told him. He should be here to go through this with her. She’d suspected for a while but a part of her thought it was all in her head and she wouldn’t have to deal with this.

But now, there were three pregnancy tests in her hands and if they all came up positive, she would have to deal with this. But, there were so many things to think about and it was all so terrifying. She never actually thought she would be sitting in her bathroom peeing on a stick. And something else occurred to her while she was taking the tests. Her relationship with Norman was still so new. It had barely been six months and no one even knew they were together. This was definitely not the plan she’d had in mind for her future with Norman.

Wendy refused to leave the bathroom while she waited for the results. It was as if she didn’t trust the tests to be accurate if she walked away from them. She just set a timer on her phone and stared at it, on the edge of tears. Why had she sent Norman home? This was too difficult to do this on her own. She needed him.

After a while, Wendy sat on the linoleum floor, hugging her knees to her chest and resting her head against her legs. How would it be to have a baby? She didn’t have any nieces or nephews. Her friends didn’t have children. She didn’t know anything about babies. The closest she’d ever come to holding a baby was in middle school when she had to take care of a baby doll for home economics class.

The alarm on her phone went off abruptly, making her jump. She scrambled back onto her feet and nearly slipped getting to the counter, “Come on, give me some good news. Please, just good news.”

Wendy leaned against the counter, looking down at the three tests lined up in a row. Her heart pounded against her chest as she focused on the three little plus signs staring back at her. Before she got those three positive results, she wanted to curl up in a ball and cry. But now, she wasn’t sure where her emotions were. All she knew now was that she needed to tell Norman what was going on.

She picked up the tests, gazing at the plus signs for a little longer before taking a deep breath and acknowledging it, “I’m…pregnant.”

DIFH x2 Chapter 7: What’s Wrong With Me?!

Nalu multichap Basically it’s Natsu’s and Lucy’s point of views in which their away from each other and sad/mad about it. And if any of you have read my other fics, You KNOW It’s going to have more Fluff in it than a Build-A-Bear Workshop and a Pillow factory combined! Sometimes so fluffy that it may seem out of character at times so yeah! (Better summary in first chapter!)

I Cried a lot writing this one, you’ll see why! WARNING: IT’S JUST REALLY DEPRESSING, LUCY’S BEING HARD ON HERSELF!

"Good night Natsu! Sleep beautiful dreams!" Lucy called to the boy that she held so dear as she walked away with her friends who were waiting for her.

Looking up she saw the sky so black and stars so bright, it was as if she was in the Celestial World herself. Taking a deep breath of the fresh night air, she took in her surroundings.

Here, there was chirping of crickets. The peeping of frogs. The hoots of owls. Even the chattering of bats was calming, they were cool since they got rid of mosquitoes. And the sky was so clear once they were out of the forest where beautiful ancient trees loomed over them that she could see the end of Leo's constellation and the beginning of Virgo's. And although it was a bit chilly, it wasn't too bad. Everything was so peaceful. Even though Lucy was afraid of the dark, she loved the sky at night and the beauty of it all. She loved the star-gazing, the animals, the quietness of it all...

At least it was quiet until the teasing began once the girls were out of the woods.

"'Nothing happens between us' my ass!" Levy smirked and winked at Lucy and bumped her hip against Lucy's, making the blonde nearly hit Juvia and fall down on her butt. "That was some adorable shit back there Lu!"

"Very true! Juvia was trying to hold back from having a heart attack!" The water mage squealed, holding her cheeks and swaying side to side. "It was so cute!"

"I don't know what you mean! T-that was all friendly fun! I was just helping him!" Lucy cried, even though her cheeks betrayed her. She couldn't deny that she found it adorable. Her heart was still racing after what just happened.

She sped forward and pulled the hood of her jacket over her head, not wanting to let her friends see her rosy face, fidgeting nervously with a lock of hair that had started to fall out the braid that she had. A habit that she wished she didn't have. Didn't they tease her enough when she first came? Her sneakers made squelching sounds as she stepped into a little bit of mud though she didn't mind too much. It'll dry off. Oh, how she couldn't wait to go to sleep. Honestly she could probably lay down on the ground and sleep with how tired she was, even though they could easily see Fairy Hill's now. There were no lights through the windows but the outdoor lamps helped light the way.

"Yeah, sure~..." Levy said sarcastically, smirking as she walked beside Lucy.

"I'm serious!" Doing her "Kitty Cat" stance as Natsu likes to call it, that she does when she's flustered.

"Juvia saw the way you look at each other," She said, putting both her hands on Lucy's shoulders making the blonde stop in her tracks, and looking her dead in the eye. "Your eyes were all lovey-dovey. You look at each other like the other is the most important thing in the world. That's why you and Natsu should kiss and be together forever!"

"H-he doesn't look at me Lovey-Dovey! That's just how he always looks at me!" She said as she gently took Juvia's hands off of her blonde's chocolate eyes popped open when she realised what she just said and blushed even harder. Especially at the grins the bluenettes were giving her. Dammit, why does she have to be so weird? "Wait, no! Let me rephrase that! I-Ugh! I didn't mean it that way! I-I..." She slumped over and sighed in defeat, lost for words. "Look," she said, smiling while crossing her arms around her clothes that she took from Natsu in a nervous way as cool breeze blew past her. "Thank you for your support in my love life. I am so lucky to have such wonderful friends like you… But even if he ever were to have feelings for someone, it wouldn't be for me. He just doesn't think of me that way…"

I wouldn't think of me that way…

Juvia and Levy looked at each other, both of their eyebrows quirked up in a questioning manner. How could Lucy not see how much Natsu cares about her? The blunettes started to giggle.

Did she really not see it?

Lucy looked up at the laughing girls, startled by the sudden noise. Why were they laughing? Did they think that Natsu liked someone else? Did they know that he liked someone else? Lucy shuffled her feet. She has been telling herself that so then she wouldn't get her hopes up. So then it won't hurt so much when it's true. But… She still had some hope. Did they think that-

"Oh, c'mon Lu!" Levy said, bringing Lucy out of her thoughts as she slung her arm over the blonde's shoulders, a toothy smile shining upon her face. The Blunettes had stopped laughing once they noticed the blonde's reaction to their mirth. They really thought she was joking when she said that. "Have faith! You are destined to be together! And like Juvia said, the way you look at each other says it all! That boy loves you! It just takes time! Cheer up! Soon," The solid-script mage deepened her voice and paused to make a pose as if she were an dramatic philosopher or a Shakespearean actor (Classics that Lucy and Levy both enjoyed), she kneeled mid-lunge and draped her forearm over her forehead while her other hand pointed up toward the sky. Her finger shined as she casted a solid script spell. The word 'GLITTER' appeared above her head, a big 'POOF' sounded as shining specks began to rain around her. "They will be writing songs, plays, poems, and everything in between about your glorious love for one another. The tales of your love shall resonate throughout the heavens!"

"Levy!" Although the silly display that her friend just did was quite embarrassing, she couldn't help but laugh at the dramatic scene. She was a sucker for over-the-top goofy humor. You could just say something in a funny voice or say some sassy phrase and you could make Lucy laugh her laugh that sounded like twinkling bells. Juvia was hunched over, clutching her stomach as she was laughing too.

"Philosopher Levy has spoken!" Juvia said between her laughter, placing her right hand where her heart was, her left posing straight up in a 'Ta-da!' sort of fashion towards Levy. "Your tales will be written in the stars. To which it will be known by every being!"

Lucy was straight up cackling at this point. The bluenettes smiled at the blonde who was trying to stifle the giggles under her hand but failing, for their mission was complete. They had made their friend laugh.

"Very true, fellow philosopher Juvia! Especially with the book that you are writing, Lucy!"

"You guys are so silly!" Lucy stopped laughing once she realised what Levy said and coughed from surprise. "Wait, what?! Levy!"

"I mean that is what you are writing about." Levy smirked.

Juvia gasped then fist pumped. "Juvia knew it!"

"Noooo," Lucy groaned. "Please, don't tell anyone! I'd be so embarrassed!"

"Juvia promises not to tell anyone!"

"Also, you think we're SILLY!" Levy shouted, she pointed at Lucy and she acted like she was insulted, her voice lowering again. "We are the Almighty Philosophers! Never question us!"

"Never question the Almighty Philosophers! We speak the truth!" Juvia said, wiggling her arms as if they were noodles and pointed them towards Levy.

"Okay, Almighty Philosophers whatever you say," Lucy said, her tone teasing and a bright smile on her face.

"It is whatever we say!" Levy smirked, still pointing her finger at Lucy. "And I for one say we go to bed! I'm tired!"

They made their way to the door, stomping their shoes in case there was any muck in them. The door opened with a click once the residents of Fairy Hills signed in. Since all the lights were off they fumbled around trying to get up the stairs to the 2nd floor, causing more mirth between the girls. Levy hit her 'Funny-Bone' when she tripped on the the first step and was cussing like a sailor. Only when they found the railing (And when Levy stopped cursing) were they able to make their way up.

As they finally tiptoed into Levy's room, it was dark as they noticed that the rest of the girls were sprawled out sleeping. Some light and loud snoring (Cough cough, Erza) and a few murmurs sounded throughout the dark room. The girls must've cleaned up the popcorn and the ruined blanket fort while they were outside.

That was sweet of them, Lucy thought, feeling slightly bad that she wasn't there to help clean up the mess too.

"It seems as though they are all asleep…" Levy whispered, her silhouette looking around the room where there were sleeping bags and cushions that were being slept on.

"Then we should be quiet…" Juvia murmured, as she stayed close to Levy's shoulders.

Lucy, Levy, and Juvia carefully tiptoed around a curled up Wendy with Carla in her arms (Lucy felt so bad! She nearly stepped on the poor girl when she lost her balance!), a Mirajane who was sprawled out in a humorous way (Juvia was shushed by Levy when she giggled) and finally a Cana that was...sleeping in only her bra and underwear, which, truthfully, wasn't much different from her usual attire. After they maneuvered their way around the others, they found uncovered ground where they wouldn't have to step around people.

"You guys wait here. I'm gonna go get some more stuff that will be comfy to sleep on," Levy whispered softly.

As Levy padded to the storage/emergency closet that the girls always had access to, Lucy looked at the clothes in her arms, squinting she used a small hallway light to see them better. There was her blue T-shirt, a pink and yellow tank top, and… Her blanket! She must've forgotten it at home! Natsu must've grabbed it when he was playing "Ninja".

It was a white fabric that had once been a part of her mother's silk nightgown. When Lucy was little, she would always snuggle up with her mama, so when she died it was hard for her to sleep, so Ms. Spetto had made her mama's nightgown into a little blanket for her to sleep with. And although Lucy was slightly embarrassed that she was eighteen and still sleeping with a little blanket, it gave her comfort. It made her feel like her mama was still there...

Lucy looked at the old, faded white silk blanket mournfully. What would mama think of her now? Would she be proud? Would she be happy with who Lucy's become? Her mama was always so kind and full of laughter, there was joy in every nook and cranny of that house. But when she died, all that joy seemed to go with her. Everything in that household had turned dark and gloomy. It became a breeding ground for bitterness and sorrow. A bottomless pit of despair. All because her papa couldn't stand to see his own daughter after his wife was gone…

Lucy clutched the blanket closer to her chest, squeezing her eyes shut. Yes, she had forgiven her father for what he had done but...The sadness that was created in that home was still lingering in her heart. Her father would only want to talk to her when there was a business proposal or when she had done something bad, which wasn't very often. And even when he was "talking" to her he wasn't ever facing her. As if he couldn't stand to see her…

"What did Natsu take?" Juvia peeked over Lucy's shoulder to get a closer look, startling Lucy out of her thoughts.

Lucy hesitated, not knowing how Juvia may react to knowing that she still slept with a blanket. "Oh, just a couple of shirts and my blanket that…that I like to sleep with." Lucy winced, expecting ridicule.

Though she got quite the opposite. "Aww, Lucy sleeps with something too!" Juvia cooed quietly, then walked over to her yellow and blue bag that held her belongings. She came back carrying something in her arms. She smiled as she shoved a doll that was obviously sewn with care. Lucy would know. She had to take sewing classes, among the many other classes she had to take to become the "Perfect wife for the suitors".

Juvia took the doll out of Lucy's face and squished it with a massive hug, rubbing her face against it. "Juvia likes to sleep with her darling Gray doll. He makes Juvia feel safe! Juvia likes to pretend that it's the real Gray…" She fidgeted with the little doll's arms, a sad smile adorning her face. "Since, you know… He doesn't care for Juvia. But Juvia still loves him! He took her rain away!"

Lucy's heart ached for her friend. Juvia was always pining after Gray and giving him affection, but with Gray's distant personality he didn't know how to react. He was, well...Awkward. It's obvious that he cares for her, the shy looks in her direction, the reddened cheeks. Gray wouldn't spend the time he does with her if he didn't like her. If only he would admit that he likes her. It was obviously hurting her.

Lucy thinks it's starting to hurt him too.

"Oh Juvia, Gray likes you!" She put her hands on Juvia's shoulders so that they would see eye to eye and smiled. "He just isn't good when it comes to his feelings, that's all. He doesn't know how to act or what to say! You're a very sweet and affectionate person, which he really isn't used to. So he's shy about his emotions. Remember that time when Lyon kept on trying to ask you out at the Grand Magic Games?"

"Yes," Juvia says, her fair cheeks turning rosy at the memory. "Juvia remembers that happening…" Lyon was a good person but she didn't like Lyon in that way. And although she found his advances sweet, Juvia's love was only for her darling Gray!

"Well, then that means that you remember how Gray was yelling at Lyon for asking you that. He was jealous~!" Lucy winked. She hoped that this statement would cheer up her friend.

Juvia's face brightened at the thought of him being jealous but then dimmed as she thought about how the Ice-Make mage said different. She turned away from Lucy's compassionate face, pulling the little "Gray" closer to her body. "Juvia's overjoyed with your kind words, but my darling was only saying that because he didn't want Juvia to go to Lamia Scale and be on their team…He's quite competitive!"

"That's what he said to you! In the hotel, it was a whole other story. He'd ask stuff like 'You don't really think Juvia will leave Fairy Tail and be with Lyon, right?' and he'd often get annoyed and start complaining about Lyon out of the blue. 'Who does that prick think he is?! He can't just do that to her.'" Lucy made impressions of Gray, making Juvia laugh. "Natsu actually got quite annoyed of it and of course, started a fight that Erza ended. So don't give up hope! Like I said, he cares about you, he's just more discreet about it. Anyways," Lucy beamed and gave Juvia a hug, startling the blunette. "How could anyone not love ya Juvia!"

Once Juvia got over the shock from Lucy's hug, she immediately squeezed the blonde back. Juvia was so happy and grateful to have such good friends. She was happy to be with Fairy Tail. Yes, Gray is her one and true love and made the rain go away but it was also her friends like Lucy who make her life even better.

"You're so kind Lucy," Juvia said. "Thank you!"

"Anytime. I'll always be here when you need me."

"GROUP HUG!" Soon there was another pair of arms wrapped around the two girls. Levy saw an opportunity and she took it. A big shining grin on her face. A couple of giggles came from Juvia's lips and then Lucy's and eventually Levy's. It seems like their other friends were heavy sleepers huh?

Once their laughter ceased Levy bent down and picked up 3 woolen patchwork blankets and 3 pillows and walked toward a large inflatable mattresses laid."Here's some blankets you two! I think we all need to get some rest, especially after the wild night we just had! I know I do! So, G'night! Sleep tight!" With that Levy pulled back the blanket and slid underneath it. She laid down on her stomach, falling asleep quite quickly. Her hair up in a messy ponytail to keep it from tangling while she slept. Unlike others, she never got scared at night. She always felt safe, as if there was some sort of guardian angel watching over her…

"Juvia couldn't agree more Levy! Good night everyone!" She whispered. And she too curled up to sleep. Wriggling cutely as she laid on her side, squishing the 'Gray' Doll one last time before she relaxed completely.

"Yeah... G'night…" Lucy said, as she laid in between them, her little silk blanket in her arms. She preferred laying on her side, (with her bust and all) and liked curling herself up. When she found her perfect position, she closed her eyes, trying to clear her mind so that she could sleep and think of nothing but calming thoughts. So of course, all that ran through her head was Natsu's adorable goofy grin…

Oh, and the fact that she was freezing! I should've worn the thermal pajamas instead! Most of the time Lucy would wear some old T-shirt and gym shorts to bed but since it was a sleepover she decided to wear something more 'cute'.

Lucy tried tucking herself into the blanket more and curled up into a tight ball, trying to keep any escaping heat in, but she still shivered! Her teeth were starting to chatter and she swore that her feet were ice. She even tried tucking her head under the covers and yet she was still cold! For a short while longer, she tried to tough out the strange flush of cold, hoping that she would eventually warm up. After around a half an hour later though, she could swear that her lips were blue.

She couldn't take it anymore. At this rate she may as well have hypothermia. Poking her head out from under the covers, she whispered "Uh, Levy? A-are you awake?"

When Lucy didn't get an answer she asked again, no response. Again she asked, this time she poked her fellow bookworm in the shoulder. "Huh?" The girl in question finally woke up, her voice low from sleep. She yawned and rolled over to face Lucy, rubbing her eyes slightly. "What doya need, Lushy?"

"I'm r-really c-cold. Do you have anymore b-blankets?"

"Sorry Lu. We only got enough for the people who live here. With Laki and Kinana not here, it means that there are blankets for you and Bisca. Since you two are the only girls who don't live here. We could share though."

"Juvia will share too! But Juvia's keeping her Gray doll!" Juvia eying the both of them.

"T-thanks you g-guys!" They piled their blankets together, so then they were close together but weren't touching. But it still wasn't enough for Lucy. She still shivered. It was better than before, but she still felt so cold...

Ha, maybe I should've let Natsu stay here... He would keep me warm…He always does... She smiled softly.

Everything about him was warm. His forest green eyes seemed to melt right through her. His heart-stopping grin set her on fire. His large rough hands that most would only see as raging flaming fist, she saw the soft side of them. The side that gently held her. The side that carried her off to new adventures...

Honestly, people think that they know the real Natsu when really they only knew a small part of him. He really loves chocolate sundays even though they would always melt on him. How he cares about everyone he meets, making new friends wherever he goes. How he's passionate about nearly everything he does. How his eyes get all squinty when he grins. How his pink hair seemed to stick up in every single direction. The way he'll occasionally snorts while he laughs. How he treats Happy as if Happy was his son. How strong he was and how he protects everyone, herself included. How he's actually a lot smarter than you think, sure he isn't a scientist but it's not like he's completely stupid.

It kinda made Lucy sad thinking about how much the guild doubts him. She knew it made him sad sometimes, no matter how much he tries to hide it, she knew that it bothered him. The way he'd tense up and then relax as if nothing happened and agree with whatever the others said. She remembers hearing about how the guild used to tease him because he couldn't read very well from Mira. It broke her heart thinking about anyone making fun of him. He was so sweet. Sure, he was a knucklehead most of the time, but he always followed his heart and does what he feels is right. He thinks of others before he thinks of himself. She always wells up with happiness and pride when she sees him.

She wanted him to be happy when he sees her too…She ducked her head underneath the blanket yet again to keep warm, Levy and Juvia sleeping soundly beside her. Deep and even breathes coming from their warm bodies.

Wow, now she sounded like the sad dumb girls that are pining after the lead male in one of those dramatic soap operas that her landlady likes to watch, the exact thing that she didn't want to be.

She wanted to be strong like the rest of Fairy Tail. She wanted to be someone who could bring pride to the guild and the people she cared about, at least a little bit. She wanted to make people happy and keep them safe. She wanted them to be able to count on her for anything…

But that's the thing, she didn't know what she could do to better herself for it… She knew she was weaker than most but she was still strong! Yet people still talk to her and treat her as they do. She always seemed to be the butt of the joke to others.

And it doesn't help with all the "merchandise" of her!

In Sorcerer Weekly, the only stuff she does for it is model. How come everyone else gets a cool article about them and all she gets to do is model and then during the Grand Magic Games, the one time she gets an article, it talks about her "stats"! While Natsu gets his explosiveness as his extra and Erza with her swordsmanship, Lucy gets cleavage! FUCKING CLEAVAGE! Is that the only thing they care about? It's embarrassing and degrading! Yes, she's grateful for all the opportunities she gets from the magazine, but why is she the one who gets made a fool of?

And it doesn't help with the fact that there was a literal doll of her where her clothes came off! And oh boy, was that popular! It sold out in a number of days and was best-seller for quite a while. The worst part of it was the fact that men would see if she would take her clothes off like the doll. Some would even try to take it off themselves! These were the times when she wasn't so mad at Natsu and Happy when they walked along with her wherever she went, (Although Natsu put a man in full body cast and who now needs constant care from the hospital and apparently breathes out of his navel, but Lucy (and many others for that matter) yelled at him for that. How he wasn't arrested she'll never know and almost wants to keep it that way.) and Max, though reluctantly from the amount of money that it gave him, took down the dolls and made sure that they were no longer made. But it still made her so upset that she was the only one who had a doll as degrading as that! All the other girls got dolls that had cool action shots. Erza had her holding her sword stoically, looking like she was going to strike anyone who opposed her. Mira had one of her in her Satan Soul form, about to launch a ball of darkness on her foes. Juvia had one of her holding a pearly water-lock, making her look menacing and badass. Levy had one of her standing in position to make a solid script spell. Wendy had a green magic circle (It glowed in the dark) underneath her as she had a healing spell stance. But nope! Lucy got one of her skipping and where her clothes come off!

And don't even get her started on all the outfits that she somehow ends up with, and, usually, she somehow ends up with no outfit at all because it gets ripped or burned or just plain disappears! There's the bunny outfit she wears for Gajeel, the cat outfit she wore for that old lady for Erza (Why did it have so revealing? If she wanted the jewelry to be delivered by a cat girl, there are something less revealing at a costume store!).

Why did people do stuff like this to her?! Honestly, the only experiences that she had with "Fans" were men who would not stop drooling over her and got way too touchy-feely which made her very uncomfortable. The rest were sneers and laughter and hate…

She rubbed her arms under the wool, hoping to warm herself up. She felt awful for feeling this way and as much as she didn't want to think like that, she couldn't help but feel jealous of her teammates and friends. First, there's the fact that they're so strong in general, and then there's all the admiration they got. Walking into towns for missions, it wasn't uncommon for a fan of Natsu, Erza, Gray, Wendy, Carla, or Happy to stop them and ask for an autograph or a picture. What really hurt though, is when on occasion, the fan would ask for a picture of the whole team and then would ask for Lucy to step out of it or to ask her to take the picture…It was nice for the fact that her team said that it was "all of us or nothing" but it still hurt the fact that people didn't want her there.

Looking up at the patterns of the blanket that laid over her, she sighed.

She just didn't get it...

Is it because of my body that people think of me so poorly? She looked down at herself underneath the blanket, still shivering. It wasn't Lucy's fault that she looks the way she does. Do you think she likes having the bust she has? She has to get her bras personally made for her because they don't have sizes bigger than a DD cup in most stores around here. They are not cheap! And the fact that she also has a very small waist made it even worse! Also even with the bras, they're still very uncomfortable. Back issues, the uncomfortable "Jiggle" whenever she simply moves, the constant gaping she got for them, she couldn't hug people or lay on her belly comfortably. It all sucked. She's tried binding in the past to make them less in the way but was scolded by her friends for doing something like that to her body without thinking of the consequences.

But… That can't be the reason for all the doubt and ridicule? But there were many other, um, well-endowed girls in the guild. Why do they just treat me like that? She thought.

Every girl in her guild was beautiful, no doubt about that. Unlike me, of course. She thought, a sneer appearing on her face. Lucy poked her head out under the covers, looking around the room at her friends who were sleeping soundly. Hell, some of the more bustier women in the guild were part of S-Class...

Like I'll ever get the chance ... I'm nothing...

A burning lump started to form in her throat and her vision blurred as her eyes started to fill with hot tears. NO! NO! NO! This is exactly what you don't want to fucking do! She shouted at herself, curling up under the blanket yet again. She pressed her fists into her forehead as if to pound the feelings out of her. Her face twisting as she gritted her teeth. THIS is why people see you as weak! THIS is why people see you the way they do! THIS is why you're so useless! THIS is why no one cares about you! You just let the Guild down! You're supposed to be OKAY! Not doing the very thing that makes everyone hate you for! THIS is why you are a laughing stock! THIS is why no one request for you on jobs! Get it together, you shitty excuse of a mage! She was only making everyone she cared about look bad. She was being a burden to them. She started to meditate, breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth and concentrated on only that, trying to calm herself down. Forcing her stupid fucking feelings were getting her nowhere. They weren't important anyways...

You're trying to better yourself, not make it worse.

Once she was able to breathe at least comfortably again, she thought about other reasons why people thought the way they did about her. It can't be because of the fact that I'm a Celestial Wizard...Right? Wait, that can't possibly be it!, She thought shoving her face into the pillow, not wanting the girls to hear the quiet whimper she released. Magic has nothing to do with it! There was Karen, Loke said that she was strong and that she was admired. And Yukino! And let's not forget Angel. Granted that Lucy won against her in a battle, but still she had the help of Hibiki! She wouldn't have won if not for him... Fucking hell, HER OWN MOTHER! SHE WOULD BE ROLLING IN HER GRAVE IF SHE SAW WHAT SHAME LUCY HAS BROUGHT TO CELESTIAL WIZARDS! Her mom was so strong and so kind, everyone loved her…

Lucy looked down through her blurred vision at the small cloth in her arms. She bit her lip, trying to keep it from trembling. Her petite shivering body tense, trying to keep all the emotions she had inside of her, where they belong. Where they'll never come to light.

Even more, all those other celestial wizards, former or still, had or has no more than 3 Celestial Spirits or less. LUCY HAS FUCKING TEN! And yet, while those who give her kindness that she doesn't even deserve, said that it was amazing how she had that many and how she has even been with the Celestial King. Her celestial spirits must be ashamed of who they work with. Still with so many spirits, she couldn't do anything...

In every match Lucy did during the Grand Magic Games, she was beaten to a pulp. She lost every single one. Yeah, Raven Tail cheated twice in her match, but she should've tried harder! If it had been anyone else they would've won easily. She stayed in the water war and got 2nd place only because Minerva wanted to beat and embarrass her. And after that, she couldn't even participate anymore because she was so badly beaten. After she had been in the infirmary and taken, the guild was winning and doing so well… She was holding them back...

An image of Bisca came into her mind. The look of compassion and care on her face when she thanked Lucy, Lucy couldn't help but feel worse for some reason. Lucy looked over at where she was sleeping. Still in her pigtails, the green-haired girl sighed softly as she cuddled her pillow. The fact that Bisca was so happy and grateful, she didn't understand. Bisca shouldn't be thanking her. Lucy didn't do anything.

I don't ever do anything!

A single tear slipped. Only one, but it was one too many for her. She immediately wiped her face fervently, trying to get rid of any indication that the little droplet was ever there in the first place. But then another fell… and another… and another...

She couldn't wipe them fast enough.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME?!

Wait… Her shivering body froze it's trembling, as her mind turned to a complete halt.

I am what's wrong…

People think of me this way because of who I am.

The dam that was holding back Lucy's tears broke as hot little waterfalls started to stream down Lucy's cheeks, her usually bright face crinkled in sorrow. She again shoved her face into the pillow, salty tears staining the fabric. She shrunk, trying to be as small as possible. Sobs racking her body, heaving in shaking trembling breaths. Shivering from the cold…

It's me… I'm what's wrong…

There's no fix or bettering herself with that. She's been trying so hard to be strong. To not cry. To not be scared. To not be hurt. She's been holding everything back trying to be better…

And yet here she was, crying like a small child.

Of course! I'm so fucking stupid! It's because of I'm just some weak, selfish, dumb, annoying, useless, ugly blonde bimbo! I just make everything worse! I don't deserve to be a celestial mage! I don't deserve to be in Fairy Tail! I don't deserve to have friends! Especially ones that are kind enough to put up with my dumbass! They're too good for me!

I don't deserve anything! No wonder people hate me… She thought.

I hate me too…

She didn't even try to meditate. After all she was a cry baby. That was what she was to the people right?! No matter what she does or will do people will still think the same way about her. She could (though unlikely. She was too weak remember?) take down one of Zeref's demons like Deliora or Lullaby and people would still treat and think of her as they do. It didn't matter! She didn't matter! She was just the weak link in Fairy Tail and Team Natsu.

Hell, the very reason why she was in the guild in the first place is because Natsu took pity on her. And the reason why she was in Team Natsu is because he needed a blonde for the job to get Daybreak. From there, he just was probably too nice to kick her off the team…

Damnit! She probably looked even more ugly now than already does. Her eyes were red and bloodshot. Snot was coming down her nose. She was sobbing and hiccupping dumbly. She took the heel of her palm to rub her face.

Mavis, I'm such a fucking idiot! To think that she was worthy of Fairy Tail when she was younger...

From here on she wept underneath the blanket, just releasing her sorrows that were consuming her. Her thoughts polluted with shame, disgust, and misery. She's surprised that no one had heard her. Just as her tears seemed to finally run out, her feeling dehydrated, she noticed it became lighter through the blanket. She came out from underneath the blanket and sure enough, the sun coming up over the hill through the window.

Damnit! I look like shit and I didn't get a wink of sleep last night!

Lucy grumbled quietly. She decided that she should just stay awake instead of going back to sleep and that she should probably try to not look like she was just crying her eyes out like she just was. She took a deep breath and rubbed her eyes. The last thing she wanted was to be even more of a burden than she already was to her friends…

"It's gonna be okay-" she whispered to herself.

"RISE AND SHINE!"

Lucy shrieked, along with nearly every girl there, and nearly jumped 10 feet in the air. Erza was standing in her PJs clanging 2 shields together, a big happy grin on her face.

"Wake up everybody! The sun's out so now we can have fun!" She called. Girls around the room began to groan and put their heads under their pillows trying to block out the noise and get a little bit more sleep.

"But Erza it's so early…" Lisanna said rubbing her eyes, and yawning.

"There's a reason it's a sleepover, Erza," Evergreen said. A green mask across her face and her hair up in curlers. Her arms were crossed across her chest as she sat up. "We're supposed to be sleeping!"

"Yes, it is a sleep over! And that's why your sleep, is over!"

"Erza, just let us sleep~" Levy cried, though it was muffled by her pillow.

"Nonsense! You sleep when it's night time! Now it's daytime!" And she crashed her shields together once again.

"Love Rival!" Juvia suddenly screamed as her Indigo eyes shot open, startled by the crash and still clutching her Gray doll. "Wha...What is the time?"

"Time to wake up!"

"Erza will you shut it!" Cana groaned, rubbing her head and taking a swig from a bottle. "You're giving me a headache!"

"I'm sorry to say Cana," Wendy spoke politely, looking barely awake. She yawned cutely. "But I don't think Alcohol will help with your headache."

"Sure it does! It helps me with everything!"

"Hey Lucy, are you okay? You don't look so good…" Levy asked. Lucy had gone into a daze for a while, she was just so tired…

"Huh? Oh, I'm just fine! Just peachy!" She laughed sheepishly and stood up from under the covers. She quickly wiped at her face, making it look like she was rubbing her eyes of the sandman's sand, in case there were any extra tears or snot that would blow her cover.

"See?! There you go Lucy! A true sport! She knows how to have fun-Oh dear," Erza said brightly but as she saw Lucy's tired red face, her smile left. She cupped Lucy's face to get a better look. "You do not look well, Lucy."

"That's what I said!" Levy cried.

"What's wrong with Lucy?" Wendy asked, starting towards them. "Is she sick?"

Lucy took Erza's hands off her face as she thought about how she should answer the girls questions. She became anxious with all the eyes on her. I can't let them know. I don't need help. I have to do this on my own. I'm in the way!

"I guess I just didn't get enough sleep last night. The story was so scary! I felt like there was still a ghost out there!" She shook trying to act like she was shivering from fright instead of the cold.

The girls looked skeptically at her, not believing a word she said. Juvia, being a water mage, knew that Lucy had been crying. The lack of moisture in her eyes and the fact that on her pillow, there was her DNA of liquid on there and since there was no acid in the liquid, it could not have been her drooling saliva. Juvia was about to ask if that's really what happened but Cana beat her to it.

"BULLSHIT! You were daydreaming about your boyfriend weren't 'cha?!" Cana cackled.

"Oh yeah! Did Natsu get out of the tree? Is he ok?" Wendy asked, worry on her face.

"Yes, Natsu is fine," Juvia said, sitting up from her relaxed position. Still looking at Lucy. "He is out of the tree."

"You should've left him in there," Erza said, crossing her arms across her chest. The shields that she was banging together were gone. "It would've done him some good."

"Ooooh! What happened?! Tell me, tell me, tell me! Leave out nothing! I got pictures from the window but I didn't get to hear anything!" Mira said, a notepad in her hand. "Juvia, Levy you were there!"

Levy and Juvia looked at each other. Levy pointed to Juvia as in a way that they both understood. 'You keep 'em busy. I talk to Lucy.'

"Weeell," Juvia started saying what happened, trying to make it a bit over dramatic. Some girls listened, some went back to sleep in the middle of her story. Lucy decided to not get involved in this one, she wasn't in the mood to be teased. She laid back on where she slept before, placing an arm over her eyes. She wasn't in the mood for a lot of things right now…

"Scary stories kept you up, huh?" Levy spoke to her softly. As the other girls were distracted, she knew that this would be the best time to get answers. Levy knew her friend, and she knew that she was not ok.

Mavis, am I that obvious? A lump started in her throat again. Her brown eyes watered. She felt so cold. For fear of having her voice break, she only nodded to answer Levy's question. She tried to keep her face straight.

"You know, you can tell us if that scary story is bothering you? We'd understand and we'd help you…" Levy then began to rub Lucy's shoulder up and down, trying to give any comfort to her hurting friend.

"I know…" Lucy said so softly that Levy could barely hear it. But she did hear the tremble in Lucy's voice.

"I'm sorry if something happened that upset you-"

"No!" Lucy whispered. "No...It was nothing you did…"

If anything it was something that I did…

Levy just nodded her head. She looked toward the girls who were all wrapped up in Juvia's story.

"You want to go home?"

Lucy thought about this statement and thought about what would happen if she did go home. She really didn't feel like socializing right now. Honestly she was so thankful for Levy being there for her. Even though a part of her mind was screaming at her that she was annoying Levy... It was still nice...

"Yes...Please..." Her voice cracked at the end of her statement, which stabbed at Levy's heart.

"Okay."

Bleh.

So yeah.

Here's my reasoning behind stuff:

Lucy's behavior: So I can relate to and I think I act like Lucy a lot so I just kinda put how I feel sometimes when stuff like this happens I guess. She is so kind and wonderful and amazing and she always puts others before herself. What's happening here is the fact that since she is so nice, she's not just going to accept the fact that "oh, people are mean." She going to take that blame because she wants to believe that there is good in the world and that everything that's bad that is going on is her fault. Lucy is thinking that she can fix what people think of her by trying to better herself. Not because that's right at all in any way, shape, or form, but it's what people like Lucy would probably think. She is a very kind, loving, sweet, selfless person. And in cases where people are like that, they tend to want to take the blame on themselves because the last thing they want to do is hurt people or do something to make them upset or be a burden to others. Which is what I was kinda trying to portray here. She's being hard on herself because of all the things said to and about her. (THIS IS TERRIBLY UNHEALTHY THOUGH! I DO THIS AND I'M WORKING ON IT!)

Juvia: Okay, so I know that Juvia is probably not as close to Lucy as I make her here. But the thing is, I just really love Juvia! She's like my 2nd favorite female character (Lucy being 1st and honestly she's just like favorite character ever in general or as a whole because she's my queen and I LOVE HER!) Juvia's such a cutie and honestly, it really annoys me when people give her hate too. Like the fact that she loves Gray a lot and the whole "Love Rival" thing. But Juvia is so much more than that! So yeah, she's great. Nobody's gonna tell me otherwise. I also put that Science bit with how she knew Lucy was crying because I like Science. It's cool, It's wack. I'm a nerd.

Levy's Guardian Angel: That's supposed to be Gajeel. Since, ya know, he makes her feel safe!

Lucy's coldness: It's supposed to be because she's without Natsu. Since he always sneaks in to sleep with her, she's used to his warmth. She's used to him. So being without him, she's freezing.

Damn it was really hard to write this chapter because Lucy means so much to me and the fact that people give her so much shit makes me so sad/mad cuz' she's just so amazing and AAAA! I'm not gonna spill my guts on you guys but she means a lot to me and she really helped me when I was younger and now still.

SUPER ULTRA MEGA IMPORTANT! If any of you guys feel like this or maybe you just had a rough day or maybe you just need to talk, DON'T BE AFRAID TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT IT LIKE LUCY IS! That's really bad for you! What Lucy's doing is unhealthy! You can't just cram all your emotions away! And if you need that someone to talk to, YOU CAN COME TO ME! I don't care if it's out of the blue or if it's just if you want to talk! YOUR HEALTH IS IMPORTANT!

Nick Cvijovic’s Top 10 of 2017

I always love the end of the year because every media publication puts out their top-whatevers for songs, albums, movies, etc. The problem I face every year is that I get super attached to albums that came out the year prior and then tend not listen to anything new throughout the year until the next best-of lists come out. It’s a ridiculous cycle that I am glad to have broken this year. While most of my top listens were all 2016 albums, I did make time for stuff that came out this year. Just a short disclaimer: it is unanimously decided that Damn. by Kendrick Lamar was the best record of 2017.

I believe it is and everyone should believe it to be as well. It was an incredible work of art both in order and in reverse; however, my list does not contain it. My list represents the albums that meant the most to me throughout 2017 and albums that I will consider classics until the end of music. I played these albums endless amounts of times over the past year so I know what I like, I think. I whittled this list down from 35 different albums that I deemed my favorite and I still think ten albums is far too little to rank after this year’s offering of music. Whatever, here I go anyway…

10. Pulled Apart By Horses- The Haze // Mobina Galore- Feeling Disconnected

(Alright, I already have a tie, big deal.) Pulled Apart by Horses is a heavy garage-y band that brings so much more than your standard Ty Segall or whatever the flavor-of-the-week garage bands are in nowadays. The Haze is a perfect bar brawl soundtrack that reminds me of those early revival bands like The Libertines and the Fratellis, albeit with more fuzz. That’s what makes this record so good; there are tons of catchy melodies, great musicianship, and a liberal use of fuzzy guitar. It’s a simple formula that makes this album so much fun.

Also tied with this record is Winnipeg’s Mobina Galore, who put out Feeling Disconnected, the duo’s debut album. I couldn’t believe these girls were a two-piece when I first listened. The songwriting is incredible and is perfect fare for any punk, but also has a hardcore vibe. These girls blew up too after this album, and deservedly so; touring with the likes of Against Me! and Propaghandi- both bands that are clear influences on Mobina Galore.

9. Zeal & Ardor- Devil is Fine

I’m going to quickly preface this by saying that I could have sworn this album came out in 2016 but Spotify says 2017 so screw it. Anyway, this album is the only good thing to ever come out of 4chan. Manuel Gagneux is a Swiss-American musician who came to New York after fleeing his Swiss Army duties and decided to ask the cesspool of 4chan what kind of album to make. They responded to his request by saying black metal and the blues, although not in those words because it’s 4chan. Gagneux’s debut as Zeal & Ardor takes black metal’s typically buzz saw guitar and pairs it with his own rendition of Satan-worshipping delta blues chants. It’s seriously the most original metal offering that I can think of, becoming almost hypnotic during the call and response verses channeling old slave songs of the mid 1800s and then ripping your stupid head clean off when the screaming and instrumentation kick in, and then become almost danceable when the two are blended. I don’t know, I get too excited talking about this record, and there’s so much to dissect within it. While sticking to blues-inflected black metal, there is also lounge and EDM styled songs which break up the record wonderfully. It’s all so cool, dudes. [Recommended track: “Come On Down” ]

8. The Dopamines- Tales of Interest

I am a sucker for self-deprecating punk rock and Cincinnati’s The Dopamines have always done it the best since their debut in 2008. Nine years later they are still screaming about their jobs and being broke; typical punk rock themes. But they have great harmony and melody within every seemingly-three-chord song that really separates them from every other band within their genre. Tales of Interest is full of songs that are believable; what I mean is that there is so much feeling in every note, chord, and lyric that it never ever gets whiny. Couple that with the Dopamines ability to have awesome songwriting that can rip on one chord over and over without ever getting tiresome and you have a perfect Midwest punk record. The dudes also incorporate some super heavy metal riffing on a few of the tracks which makes this album the best for getting too drunk and yelling at the top of your lungs until your neighbors call the cops. 7. Woe- Hope Attrition

I had the hardest time trying to decide to put Power Trip’s incredible Nightmare Logic or Bell Witch’s Mirror Reaper in this spot because both of those albums were very important this year, not just in metal, but in the mainstream as well. Hell, Pitchfork loved both. Well, the mainstream’s opinions are crap and Woe had the best metal record, and nobody was really talking about it. Hope Attrition came to my attention only a few weeks ago but I think I have listened to it once or twice a day since then. Black metal seems to be pretty repetitive stylistically recently (shoooooeeeeegggaaazzzeeee), but Woe brings an album that is equal parts epic and brutal. Sure, there are blast beats and guttural vocals, but Hope Attrition also throws in some high pitched screams, clean vocals, and interesting song structure. The guitars fucking wail too, and feature some of the coolest sounding solos I have heard in a long time. This album differs from a lot of black metal lyrically too, singing about real life evils of white supremacy and our nation’s ineptitude. It’s refreshing (for me at least) to have metal be topical, and to lean more leftist. None of it matters anyway because you think Mirror Reaper should have been on here. Shove it. [Recommended track: “No Blood Has Honor”]

6. Rozwell Kid- Precious Art

One of the lines that begins this album states, “I’m down to my underwear because I through it all away in a Wendy’s trash can” and if you don’t think that is the best damn line ever than you are a moron. Rozwell Kid continues in the tradition of making guitar rock awesome again, essentially making a record that Weezer should be doing, but would get shit on for because it’d still be too weird for them. Precious Art’s themes are personal, but filtered through wit and loud dueling guitars. Songs thematically range from losing it, to romantic hangs watching UHF, to a song about wanting to be something else- specifically a dog. Everything Rozwell Kid does is a lot nerdy, a lot sarcastic, or a lot goofy, to veil deeply emotional writing but they never fail to keep the guitars loud as hell. [Recommended track: “Wendy’s Trash Can”]

5. The Eradicator- The Eradicator

The first time I ever saw the Eradicator live was when he opened for Direct Hit! at the Double Door for the Wasted Mind release show. I had seen the sketch before (the Kids in the Hall sketch) and was incredibly excited to hear how one guy was going to base an entire set of songs off of one or two 5 minute sketches from an old TV show. The sketch is about a masked squash player trying to work up the ranks of his local D-squash league. He eats, breathes, and sleeps Squash, and the Eradicator embodies everything that this character was. I found out soon that not only are the songs hilarious, but they also shred. The Eradicator can get everyone in the crowd, even if it’s their first time hearing him, to sing along to songs about his quest to climb the D-squash ladder. The songwriting features a mix of straight forward punk rock to hardcore bashing but always stay to true to reminding the listener that football sucks, tennis sucks, baseball’s cool, curling rules, but they’re not the sports for him. [Recommended track: “I’m a Squash Man”]

4. Metz- Strange Peace

What would any list of best albums be if it didn’t include Canada’s finest? A list not worth publishing that’s for sure. I was so worried that Metz would fall into a hole of making a softer sounding indie rock album, similar to Cloud Nothings new record, but am I glad that I was wrong. Also, of course they wouldn’t do that; they’re one of the loudest and most raucous bands around. Strange Peace is filled with wall to wall bangers, some coming in under a minute and some almost pushing the six minute mark. This record is sort of similar to their other albums, and that is what makes it great. Metz doesn’t need to change up their sound too much to keep any listener happy; they stick with the incredible drumming, thundering bass, noisy guitar work, and catchy yet screaming vocals.

3. IDLES- Brutalism

I got turned on to IDLES from one of my students, actually. Upon first listen, I was like, “what is this?” It was so out there from my normal tastes that I couldn’t stop listening. IDLES fills this album with simplistic musicality, akin to Plague Vendor or Protomartyr, but it’s in the vocals and song writing that really caught me. The songs on Brutalism are a collection of working class angst and sarcastic commentary on pop culture all almost spoken, rather than sung. That does not take away from the catchiness of it, though. All the songs clearly come from the heart and are brutally honest, anthems for those who are dissatisfied and bored as hell. I’d pair this record with whiskey and percosets at 8am after being laid off from your shitty job. [Recommended track: “Mother”]

2. Japandroids- Near To The Wild Heart of Life

Japandroids has been one my favorite bands for a long time. I absolutely love how incredibly huge their sound is for being a two-piece, although with a butt load of amps. Japandroids had been relatively silent since their last album, Celebration Rock, which came out in 2012 to great reception. Everyone was fairly skeptical if they could repeat the anthems and sing-alongs that that album brought, but they totally blew everyone out of the water. This album may seem just like a regular rock album to some, but the songs are just so perfect to blast whether you’re having a bad day, a great day, alone, with friends, drinking, hungover, whatever. I can’t help but get chills when this album comes on; the dynamics are amazing and make you feel alive. If there was any single record that 2017 needed to feel better about itself, it’s Near To The Wild Heart of Life. [Recommended track: “In a Body Like a Grave”]

1. ’68- Two Parts Viper

Josh Scogin is the best vocalist in hardcore; hands down. When his last band, hardcore heroes The Chariot, broke up, I was so disappointed that we wouldn’t have any new music from him in the future. Then ’68 dropped two tracks in 2014, followed by one of the most awesome albums ever, In Humor and Sadness. ’68 keeps with their untouchable blend of hardcore and rock and roll on Two Parts Viper, a sort of combination of The Chariots spastic riffs and songwriting, and White Stripes-styled two-piece heavy blues. Scogin’s lyrics really shine through on this album as well, coming off as spoken word at parts before the crushing guitar and drums bash in. Where there’s feedback on this album, there is Scogin’s poetry; where there is screaming, there is singing. This is one of the most dynamic records to come out in a long time, going back and forth from heavy rock-oriented riffs and grooves to chanting and Josh’s inimitable screaming, even throwing in the oddball sample in the middle of a song. There is nothing that comes close to ’68 in terms of style and I don’t think there ever will be. 10 out 10 snakes.
