Who cares about Hannah Burley, honestly, the Bones character who deserved to come back with justice and better writing more than anyone is Amy, the defense lawyer from the Innocence Project who represented Howard Epps. She was sweet and likable but unfortunately she was only there to be a anti-death penalty strawman (aka the only person in the episode with the correct opinion???) to be struck down. This isn't nearly as bad as Medium, a show which was so up the death penalty's ass that eventually you feel the need to sit the showrunners down and tell them "State-sanctioned murder isn't gonna fuck you." But still. Yuck.

Dr. Goodman is so charming and interesting, and when he was around the show was so much more connected to history and culture and you were actually constantly reminded that the Jeffersonian is, in fact, a museum. No hate for Cam or disrespect for whatever behind-the-scenes reasons were behind Goodman leaving the show, but season 1 just had a vibe, you know?

Starting my rewatch :) Mom's watching with me
Nice snappy in media res introduction to the characters and concept. I remembered this show being horny but it's REALLY horny right off the bat.
Mom is like "I like this more serious tone! It doesn't feel like a comedy yet." I personally prefer the comedic tone Bones comes to have, but I'd also point out that the side characters (Angela, Zack, Hodgins, and even Goodman) are really just a comic relief squad at this point.
So many "I don't know what that means"s, my girl is so autism :)

Hi! Hi! I haven't updated this blog in almost two years and I haven't rewatched Bones in even longer but I just listened to the Boneheads trailer and almost cried hearing Emily and Carla's voices so yeah I'll absolutely be doing a rewatch along with them and giving this blog some love again! How do I still have over 800 followers, why did you all not abandon me when I went inactive, why am I questioning this? Hi! I'm so glad to see you all again!
So some updates, I'm a gamer now, I'm obsessed with video games. I even started a Let's Play YouTube channel a few months ago (shameless plug shameless plug). I dabble in many different genres, but relevant here, did you know there's this thing called detective games? Where you play a detective and can solve murder mysteries like Booth and Brennan do, but yourself? I freakin love 'em. The Zero Escape visual novel series is one of my favorites, and @lightphieric is my dedicated sideblog to those games.
Fair warning that I feel I am a bit more... socially conscious, I guess you could say, than I was when I was last active. I'm still very willing to revisit Bones from an uncomplicated place of love and chalk a lot of things up to being a product of their time, but at the same time I find myself with a lot less patience for glorified depictions of law enforcement (to the point where I might have to change this blog's avatar, sorry Bobblehead Bobby!).
I'm also a lot more educated when it comes to issues of neurodivergence and mental illness, when it comes to both recognizing and understanding my own neurodivergence (I have autism, avoidant personality disorder, depression and anxiety) and learning about conditions that I don't have but which fall under the same brain-weird umbrella. I am so so SO excited to come back to the absolutely impeccable neurodivergent energy of the main cast of Bones, but I am also bracing myself to see and call out a lot of the demonization of people with mental illnesses that is typical of the crime genre. I have come to realize that the field of criminal profiling is, as a whole, utter ableist bullshit, and while I still love Sweets as, like, a character and a guy, I hate his job and can imagine myself getting mad at him a lot.
All that aside, I am so excited for this podcast and this rewatch and can only imagine it being a primarily positive experience. Welcome back to the blog! (And feel free to reach out if you wanna talk or anything, I was pretty resistant to making fandom friends before but my time in the Zero Escape fandom has loosened me up in that regard.)

Watching Cold Case can be difficult sometimes because there are no smart people in the cast. It’s just six homicide detectives, no variety at all, and they’re all so. Fucking stupid. I mean, they’re smart in that they can, like, deduce stuff or whatever, but like, none of them actually know anything. There was one episode where the victim was posed like Ophelia in the river. The murderer was an art history teacher. On Bones they would have solved that case in, like, five minutes, and they could have done the same on Cold Case if any of those idiot cops had ever looked at a painting even once in their lives.
Is this what most other cop shows are like? Damn. You get spoiled when your favorite show is about a bunch of walking encyclopedias.

I’m okay with the frequency because that was likely for budget reasons, but man I wish we had more of them all being friends and less of them being all competitive and mean with each other.
Once again I am lamenting the severe lack of Squintern interaction

Wendell: *crouches down*

My phone gave me the notification that you posted after a whole and I went, "Yes!" out loud.
Whoa, people actually have post notifs on for me? That’s wild.
That reminds me, I did a PC Check meme like two weeks ago and never posted the corresponding episode response. I need to get on that.

I’m watching Cold Case right now and their episode titles are usually like. Single, abstract words that tie into the episode thematically, some shit like “Honor” or “Family.” It’s very simple, very dignified. But also. Boring-ass episode names. I came off a years-long hyperfixation on Bones for this? Have some fun with it.
I respect bones for keeping up the dumb naming thing for twelve years. I dare you to google a list of bones episodes. There are some fucking hilarious ones.

I finished Medium (I mean, I didn’t really finish it but I heard Joe dies in the last episode and I refuse to watch that. You don’t kill off the perfect husband!) and I think the next show I’m gonna watch is Cold Case. I love how stylized it is and how every episode is a mini period piece
