HEYOOOOOOOOO ya'll! Apologies for the brief bout of silence there; I had to lock the fuck in for my first powerlifting competition.
For anyone new around here; I've been lifting weights for a lil while now, but only recently (as of this year) have I decided to go the athlete route and started pursuing Powerlifting. Last saturday was my first time competing as a powerlifter in an actual meet (federation is NPL, a relatively new powerlifting fed), aaaaaaand to TLDR:
I got two 1st place medals in my weight class Set the state record for Bench @ 82.5kg (181lbs) Set the state record for Deadlift @ 145kg (319lbs)

I was fuckin' nervous the day before meet and the actual meet day itself. I've been to a powerlifting meet before and I had a ton of fun, but it's always very different watching a sport vs participating in a sport. Felt a lot like I did back when I played Basketball competitively; sweaty and hot and couldn't sit still. I like that feeling though, it feels like a challenge, and that's the best part of being competitive.
Once I actually got to the meet and did my first lift though that's when adrenaline kicked in and suddenly I felt like I could lift the world, bro. I'm feeling pretty confident I could've lifted an additional 5lbs on my bench and maybe another 10lbs on my deadlift, but I've very happy with the outcome I got.
My thoughts on the meet itself: it was fucking incredible. I think the best part of the competition is the people: both the athletes and the crowd. One thing I found with Powerlifting is that the energy is almost always entirely positive. It's a competition, sure, but no one is there booing or looking to see you fail. Everyone, including your fellow competitors, are hoping you succeed your lifts and beat your last score. The main aim in powerlifting is to win against yourself, and that really shows in the competition.
Every lifter is met with applause, cheers, and aggressive positivity. I fuckin love that aggression too; no one's afraid to get loud, get hyped or excited. Since this federation is relatively new, the crowd (everyone's friends and fam) kinda didn't know what the proper etiquette was for the comp was, but they quickly learned: yelling, shouting, cheering. It's fuckin great man.
And the lifters themselves are such a treat to meet; you get to see the varied potential of human strength in a wide array of genders and ages and it's somethin' to behold, man. Not to mention they're all just genuine people. I enjoyed every second, bro. ;w; If you're curious, here are my lifts:

They were the last attempts of each lift: for those who are curious, Powerlifting Comps have it where you get 3 attempts for each of the lifts (Bench, Squat, Deadlift). The idea is to successfully lift your first attempt with a simple, "lightweight" lift, or one you know you can sink no sweat. The last lift is when you YOLO and go fuckin' hard with something you know is a challenge, OR you're gonna go for a completely new PR.
For my bench, I knew I could sink 82.5kg without too much trouble. I actually wanted to attempt 84kg (roughly 185lbs), but I'm pleased with my bench's performance.
My deadlift, however, is a PR. I've never lifted 320lbs before this meet, and with it being the last lift of the day I told coach to lemme give it a shot. Glad I did! Shit moved relatively well, better than I anticipated it would. xD
Before I competed, my highest bench was 170lbs, and my deadlift was 260lbs. As seen above, my bench has officially increased to 181lbs and my deadlift to 319lbs. I myself weigh 177lbs. All in all, pretty proud of the results!

It took me roughly 6 months of prep, mostly on my own program and planning, to successfully compete in this meet. The base goal was to get an official taste of what it was like to prep, lift, and compete competitively, to see if I actually would enjoy the entire process from start to finish.
The answer is yes.
I've learned a lot from this experience, from what works in my training and what doesn't, to how much lifting is half-ways raw strength, half-ways a mind game, how competition works and the rules/regulations surrounding it. The nuances of my rest cycles, my eating habits, so on. It's all fascinating and helped me learn about myself. And now I know the answer to my next question, which was: would I do this again? Absolutely.
SO! My first meet is now in my back pocket and I have two medals and state records to show for it. My next goal is to compete in my next meet, in a drug-tested meet, and go for it's state record, maybe try to win Best Lifter. I ultimately wanna be nationally competitive; I wanna be known as one of the strongest lifters in the books. Maybe, if I'm lucky, compete in the Arnold Sports Festival one day? We'll see!
But ye. More powerlifting coming from me that's for sure! you better back the hell up before i make you, he quietly threatens to a duo of freshmen that were inching closer to you from a blindspot in your vision. as he's glaring daggers, you're blinking away dark spots in your vision and trembling by the time you finish your last rep.
"haji, babe, you got me?" your body feels like it's frozen in a squat, unable to push yourself back up no matter how much you tried. maybe this is how atlas felt when he was holding up the world, you think to yourself. hajime's definitely gonna tease you for that one, later.
"you need me?" he's behind you in an instant, enveloping you in warmth and positioning his hands next to yours. the smell of his cologne and the familiar shape of his body behind yours give you a surge of energy, enough to force out one more word before your final push.
"please." he shoots one last look of warning to someone behind him before effortlessly helping you place the bar back on the hooks, kissing the top of your head once you've let your muscles relax. "thanks, baby."
"it's what i'm here for. i'm proud of you," he murmurs, brushing his thumb against your cheek when you turn to face him. he holds your bottle for you as you sip, your lower body still shaking even though you're only standing.
"alright." you smile once you've had your fill and re-racked your weights. you spot a pack of girls eyeing your boyfriend from the treadmills and stifle a laugh that he catches anyway. "your turn."
"what're you laughin' about?"
"it's nothing. need help with your plates?"
"i'm good, just stay there and look pretty. i'm gonna be wondering what you're laughing at for the rest of the night, though." he shrugs passive-aggressively and you roll your eyes. he follows your eyeline, zeroing in on the group batting their eyelashes at him like sirens. "hmm. friends of yours?"
"never seen them in my life," you reply. "guess it's time for me to play guard dog."

From someone who is disorganized and discouraged, I would love advice on weight-lifting/building muscle. Would you share your understanding of building muscle and the breakdown of diet?
If possible, could you share how you apply what you know to yourself? If you use any tools to help you?

prefacing this with some important info for fellow disorganized scatterbrains!!!!
the main reason why ppl have trouble sticking to a lifestyle change is because they try to make very drastic changes too quick, and you get overwhelmed and it becomes unsustainable. this is especially an issue for neurodivergent folks, and since it's Tumblr I assume a good chunk of y'all are (me too dw)
DON'T immediately overhaul ur diet and hit the gym 5x a week from day 1!!! hitting tiny goals consistently is also more rewarding than working towards one very large arbitrary goal that you might not reach, esp when it comes to working out. start veeery small if u need to, such as only 10 bodyweight squats per day like i did and go from there. you wanna program ur brain into feeling accomplished to keep you motivated. patience is key!!!!
ok!! now onto the more detailed info below
Disclaimer: I'm still a newbie myself!! only consistently lifting heavy for about 3 months as of this post. I did a good deal of excessive info diving on lifting using the power of Sheer Autism, and my main gym buddy is very experienced & taught me a good chunk of this shit so shout-out to my pal for making all this possible xoxo
so good news!! "building muscle" is very easy for beginners starting from zero. newbie gainz are absolutely real. at this stage you can do just about anything at the gym and get stronger bc u can only go up. BUT!! if you structure it, you can make the process enjoyable and much more efficient. if you're goal oriented (lookin at u ADHD menaces), you'll love the concept progressive overload.
PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD & SETS/REPS
wikipedia defines progressive overload as: a method of strength training and hypertrophy training that advocates for the gradual increase of the stress placed upon the musculoskeletal and nervous system. in layman's terms, it just means gradually adding more weight as you work out to increase the difficulty as you get stronger. progress is VERY easy to track because of this, and you'll be hitting PRs pretty much every week for the first couple of months and that shit feels fantastic because you physically feel yourself getting stronger so rapidly. I use the app Strong to track my workouts. so, how do we structure progressive overload? that's through sets/reps. A rep is a single execution of an exercise. 1 squat is one rep. 2 squat is 2 reps. and so on. A set is a collection of reps. The format is Sets x Reps, for example: 3x5 means 3 sets of 5 reps. You will rest between sets, and it's typically anywhere from 1 minute all the way up to 5 minutes depending on the level of exertion/type of training you are doing. Heavier weights mean longer rest periods and vice versa.
WHERE DO I EVEN START??
For those interested in barbell training: the r/fitness beginner routine is pretty good! I also recommend 5x5 stronglifts. both are very straightforward, but also note the typical olympic barbell is 45lbs. If this is a weight you struggle with, you can begin with bodyweight exercises, dumbbells, or machines at the gym which are all very BEGINNER beginner friendly. especially when it comes to legs you're probably much stronger than you think. Most people can squat 45lbs first try. don't be afraid -- you're standing on those things all day, they can support hella weight. Like I mentioned earlier, don't be afraid to start veeeery small and work your way up from there. I started at home with doing only bodyweight squats without the barbell, then added on benching with light 7lb dumbbells after a week, then impulse signed up for a gym membership a month later and began to go there to use equipment and now i'm deadlifting over 100lbs as a tiny girl that previously was too weak to even lift a 40lb dog. it snowballs quicker than you think once you gain confidence in your own body and its abilities!
WOAH I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SQUAT/DEADLIFT/BENCH/THIS IS SCARY AND IM FUCKING UP
If you can, i highly recommend getting a personal trainer to assist you, or tag along with a gymrat pal to show you the ropes. This page is also a good resource to learn specific lifts. otherwise, youtube is your best friend. you can record your sets and compare your form to form tutorials on youtube, and actively take notes on what to change the next time you work out. Be an active learner!!! be aware of what muscles are engaged when you lift and how your body feels. almost NOBODY gets it right the first time, esp with barbells. we've all made fools out of ourselves at the gym as beginners it's chill. i find people at the gym are very nice and willing to help you out if you're struggling, and people don't judge at all-- it's very easy to get in your own head in these spaces but most humans there are supportive and want you to succeed, especially since it's a hobby they are also passionate about. the more you do it, the less anxious you get. exposure therapy is very effective!! Also, almost all the barbell exercises can be replaced with smaller dumbbells, and you can do them at home if you get your own set + a workout bench (pretty cheap if u get secondhand, check facebook marketplace/craigslist). i got mad social anxiety myself so i understand sometimes you just can't, and this is an option for those that find public spaces overwhelming.
DIET
I personally don't think specialized diets/precise macro tracking is super duper important for newbies/casuals, only moderately important (spicy take for some but whatever). but you probably naturally will take an interest in diet once you realize it'll help you perform significantly better in the gym. the only macro i track is protein. You can use a TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) calculator to roughly estimate the amount of protein you need for maximum gainz. it's usually around .7-1g of protein for every pound of lean body mass (weight that isn't fat mass). Imma be real it's pretty hard for me to hit the recommended protein goal and most days I don't because my appetite just can't kick in for the amount it demands, and protein is super filling. I found that if i decreased the amount of carbs i eat, i am able to consume more protein bc i guess there's more room in my stomach lol. i eat a fuck ton of greek yogurt, chicken, fish, and tofu. when i started working out, i begin cooking a lot more and found i naturally craved less processed junk foods and snacks because the protein was keeping me full all day which is a plus! Even when im not regularly hitting my protein goal my gym progress is still going well and I think it's simply because my diet is A LOT better than what it used to be in my gremlin days. I also eat a lot more now that i've gained a bit of muscle, so do be prepared for food costs to go up as your metabolism increases and demands more energy to upkeep your gainz.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR ME TO LOOK LIKE A MUSCLE MOMMY????
a whileeee. over a year, probably, unless if you're on anabolic steroids (dont ever do that u will quite literally die). and physique is mostly from diet since it's dependent on your body fat percentage, the saying "abs are made in the kitchen" is true. its why you see hyper skinny terminally indoors gamer dudes with abs, even if they'd snap in half if you farted in their general direction. those mfs barely eat they too busy being gamers i am no longer interested in lifting for aesthetics personally since i get more joy from hitting PRs and i'm pretty content with my body image, but ik physique is the reason why most people get into lifting so i'll touch on it. Weightlifting on its own will not make you lose weight or fat. Again, it needs to be supplemented with a healthy sustainable diet (DO NOT DO CRASH DIETS THAT SHIT IS GARBAGE) and a form of cardio. I actually gained 8lbs since I began lifting from water retention & new muscle mass (muscle is more dense than fat, your body retains water when repairing muscle after a gym sesh) but my measurements and pants size have remained the same. I'm short, so something as small as a 5lb increase usually bumped me up a pants size but it didn't this time bc im gettin swole :') if you want to track physique changes, measuring your waistline & progress pics is a better way to do so than the scale. If you want bigger muscles, look into hypertrophy training. it's a tad different from strength training, mainly because you do higher reps at a lower weight.

A/N: So Neteyam's fic won the poll and I'm so excited to start this new journey with you guys! The plan is to release each new part weekly. So this series will update every Monday. If that changes for any reason, I'll update you guys about it. For now, I hope you all enjoy this intro chapter.

Summary: You and Neteyam are childhood friends. You got to be so close that the two of you promise to be mates when you're older. But when the Sully family has to leave the forest, you wait for him to return and fulfill his promise to you.
“Why are you crying?” a small voice snuck up behind you. The sound of your own sobs drowned out the footsteps approaching you. Your knees pressed to your chest and your head hidden in your arms, the tears seem to be never ending. A young boy around your age comes over next to you. He squats beside you and takes in your sorry form. “Hey”, he reaches out a hand to touch your shoulder, but you flinch away from him. “I’m Neteyam.”
You sniffle and look him up and down being cautious of the interaction. You recognized him finally as the Olo’eyktan’s son. “Can I ask why you are crying?”
Why did he care? He didn’t know you.
“Some kids were making fun of me for being short.” It was a regular occurrence. You stood almost a whole foot smaller than what was average for your age and you never heard the end of it. Kids were cruel. But you had never spoken with Neteyam. If you were being honest, you were just waiting for this whole interaction to go south.
“Well, that sounds stupid.” He says knitting his brows together in confusion.
You focus your gaze ahead and sink into yourself. “It doesn’t matter. It happens every day.”
“Well, next time, just come find me and I’ll make them stop. I’m a warrior after all.” He puffs out his chest and holds his head high grinning down at you. He was beaming with confidence. The complete opposite of you.
You wipe away your tears and look at him in wonder. Nobody had ever offered to take care of you before.
“Hey, you stopped crying! Here.” He fiddles with some of the items around his waist and pulls out a woven piece of cloth. He scoots closer to you and you don’t shy away from him this time. Neteyam holds your shoulder to steady you while he uses the cloth to clean your face.
He’s a little sloppy and rough, but you’re thankful for the gesture all the same.
“Come on, I’ll show you how to shoot an arrow.” Before you can protest, he already has a hold on your wrist and is pulling you along.
This feeling was something totally new to you. No one had ever treated you so kindly before. Especially not another kid. He took care of you. He was nice to you. He didn’t tease you even though his frame towered over yours. Instead, he opted to use his stature to protect you. And he did just that.
Before long, you and Neteyam were joined at the hip. It was like he was your shadow. Kids tried picking on you again, but Neteyam was always there to fend them off and nobody dared to mess with him. Soon, they left you alone too. He quickly became your favorite person. Your safety.
With you two being so close, Neteyam’s parents would often joke about you both mating when you got older.
“What happens when you mate with someone?” You innocently blink up at Neteyam’s father. Neteyam cocked his head to the side wondering too and waiting for an answer.
His dad was clearly flustered and attempted to come up with a suitable answer. “W-well, when you mate with somebody, you love them so much that you promise to be together for the rest of your lives.”
Your ears perk up and a big smile crosses your face “Oh! Well, then I definitely wanna mate with Neteyam!” your small tail swishing excitedly behind you. Your tail often gave away however you were feeling. You look over at Neteyam and his smile mirrors yours. “Let’s promise to be mates when we’re older!”
Neytiri smiles warmly from across the room finding your relationship endearing.
“Promise.” Neteyam smiles at you.
Everything was much simpler then. You were just children. Children with big dreams. And over time, you got bigger and your feelings grew with you. You always had a deep admiration for Neteyam since you first met him. He was strong and confident and loyal and charming. You always wanted to be at his side. He radiated a joy that was infectious. You were never unhappy with him. Even on your worst days, he always managed to brighten your mood. And as you got older, you felt the stirrings of something deeper. The connection you shared was undeniable, but this was something different from what you were used to. It was like it was the beginnings of love blooming in your chest.
When he talked, his voice felt like velvet against your ears. And when he touched you, it made your breath hitch in your throat. And his smile…Eywa, that smile, you just wanted to melt.
But, of course, you could never tell him this. There was no way you were going to risk your friendship over this. If he didn’t feel the same way? If you couldn’t be at his side anymore? Your whole world would crumble and you could not bear that. So you choose to pine after him in secret and stay by his side as his person. You would even go help Mo’at in her tent with Kiri so that you could help patch Neteyam up after missions when he would get hurt.
You would both still say that you were going to be mates when you grew up, but you knew the chances of that actually happening was slim. He would likely find a pretty girl to love him and bear his children and lead the clan with him. The thought of it made your heart ache, but this was the way things were and you had to accept it.
Everything went out the window when the sky people returned. The Sullys were leaving. Neteyam was leaving. Your person, your love, the one you had promised yourself to. Your heart shattered.
This can’t be real. It can’t be. It’s too cruel.
You spiraled down further and further into a darker place in your heart. You couldn’t find the strength to drag yourself out of your hammock half the days. There was no appetite to be found and smiling was nothing but a distant memory now. The only time you emerged from your home was to carry yourself to the spot in the forest where you first met Neteyam so that you could cry your heart out in peace. Today was no different. Your feet carried you through the dense forest, retracing the same path you took day in and day out. This time, Neteyam beat you there.
You slowly approach him and, to your surprise, it looks like he came for the same reason as you. His face was covered in tears when he looked up at you and your expression was the exact same. You both sat in silence with each other for what felt like hours. Neither of you knew what else there was to say. Both so fragile that words could shatter what sliver of control was holding you together right now. But you couldn’t stand it if your last day together was spent in silence. There was still so much you wanted to say to him and things you wanted to experience with him.
“It’s tomorrow, isn’t it?” your soft voice croaked out.
Neteyam could only nod, afraid of what sound may leave his lips if he tries to speak.
Your hand creeps over to cover his making him finally look you in the eye. “I’m gonna miss you.” You try to muster a smile, but your lips falter and tears flood your eyes again. He could feel your sorrow. And suddenly, you looked just like that sad little girl again that he found in the woods all those years ago. It was like torture.
His hand comes up to find your face and stroke your cheek. You relish in the feeling for as long as you can. You try to memorize every detail of this moment. As heart-wrenching as it was, it was still so beautiful. He was so beautiful. “Promise you won’t forget me?” you try to lighten the mood feeling the increasing weight on your chest.
“Oh, ma girl, there is no way I could ever” he presses his forehead against yours and you two share a breath, “I will always be yours.”
His words bring you a small comfort, but not enough to crowd out the pain. His arm comes around your waist to scoot you in closer to him. Your bodies press together and you rest your head on his shoulder. Holding each other, you both let your tears free flow, feeling that same familiar safety with each other one last time.
Getting lost in your thoughts, you almost don’t notice when Neteyam cups your face and makes you look at him. The eye contact is intense. Millions of unspoken feelings behind it. He slowly leans in and closes the gap between you capturing your lips in a tender kiss. Your first kiss. It’s timid and sweet, but it makes you feel like fire. His lips are warm and inviting. It’s everything you’ve always dreamed of and it’s on a day that you wished never had to be. A cruel irony. Your first kiss on your last day together.
When he pulls away, he gazes at you with all the love of the last 8 years you’ve spent together. “I’ll be back for you as soon as I can. Once it’s safe, I’ll come for you.”
You give him a sad smile, but nod your head. You know Neteyam always keeps his word when it comes to you so this time should be no different. If he says he’ll come back for you, then he will.
Everyone gathered early the next day to see the Sully family off. Jake passed the title of Olo’eyktan to Tarsem. He was well-liked and respected by the clan. He would be a good leader. But you still couldn’t help the ache you felt. The family made their way through the crowd to head towards their ikrans. As he walked past you, Neteyam’s eyes met yours for the last time and he held his gaze on you for as long as he could. You offer him a small wave seeing him disappear off into the crowd. And you feel a piece of yourself disappear with him.
‘He’ll be back. He will be.’
The following days seemed to all blur together. Nothing was the same. The sun didn’t seem to shine as bright and the air was harder to breathe. It was like a never-ending nightmare having to learn how to be without Neteyam again. Life before him didn’t feel real anymore. A long-forgotten, miserable existence. This was the smallest you’ve ever felt. You never thought you’d be back in that place again. Never thought you’d be without him again. And yet, here you were. You still drew breath and your heart still beat and the world around you continued to go on.
Your parents concern for you grew in the passing weeks. The change in you was clear enough to see from the other side of the planet. They would bring you food and water that you could only manage a few bites of at any given time. They prayed to Eywa to heal your broken heart, but it seemed that it was of no use.
The weeks dragged on into months and the months into years. Before you knew it, it had been 2 years since he left. The pain never got any lighter, but you grew better at handling it. At times when you felt your grief would overcome you, you would remind yourself that he was coming back. He was. People would look at you full of pity whenever you mentioned Neteyam coming back. Believing you were just desperately clinging to a childhood fantasy. The people pitied you and so did your parents. They knew how attached you were to Neteyam, but they were worried about your refusal to accept life without him.
It was going to be time for you to start thinking about finding a mate soon. Whenever your parents would bring up the subject, you would hear nothing of it. You had already chosen your mate and he had chosen you. You just had to have patience. Denying any suitor that came your way, your parents’ concern grew with each passing year. They feared for your future. They didn’t want you to spend the rest of your days waiting for someone that wasn’t coming back.
They would try and try and try to convince you to give other men a chance. Even going so far as to try and set you up with sons of their friends. It was of no use, none of them compared to Neteyam in your eyes.
Soon, 2 more years had passed. You were now 19 and still without a mate. As far as the people were concerned, you were in your prime. This is the time where everyone is starting to choose their mate. And you were still unwilling to take anyone else. That didn’t stop your parents, though. The other day, they sat you down to inform you that they had taken it upon themselves to arrange a mate for you. Since you had refused to take a mate on your own, they picked someone for you. His name is Ralu. He’s tall and mild mannered and a good hunter. He wasn’t a bad choice. He just wasn’t Neteyam.
You did your best to hold your composure when they introduced you. He smiled when he greeted you and was polite to your parents. It made you feel bad. He seemed nice and you wanted to want this, but you couldn’t bring yourself to forget who your heart actually yearned for.
You found yourself back at your usual spot in the woods. The spot where it all began. Every now and then, you would half expect to see Neteyam sitting there carving or sharpening his knife. It was like your heart would forget for just a moment. But when you came into the clearing and saw the empty spot, you would remember. And the remembering was a whole new injury to your already battered heart.
Lying in the grass, you stare up at the sky and watch the ikrans fly overhead. The trees swayed and the wildlife chirped around you. It was like every sensation scrubbed your mind clear of your messy thoughts. Would you really have to live the rest of your days like this? With a man that was wonderful in every respect, but you didn’t love? Your parents had already promised you to him. You awoke every day wondering if it would be today. The day that Neteyam promised you would come. When he would finally come and you could be together again. You willed it with every fiber of your being. A sound abruptly snaps you out of your daze. The sound of horns in the distance and cheering. What was all the commotion?
You follow the sound of the crowd and you can sense the intensity through the lush of the forest. It grows with every step closer. You finally catch up to the gathering crowd and do your best to push through all the taller bodies to get a clear view of what was going on. Cheers and murmurs of ‘toruk makto’ ring through the crowd. Toruk makto? Jake? It couldn’t be.
Ikrans land at the front of the growing crowd and you feel your stomach jump up into your throat. It was the Sully family.
Cheers erupt through the crowd as the family lands and you weave through everyone to make it to the front. They’re back. That means that he’s back. He came back for you just like he said he would. You stumble through, but it doesn’t slow your pace.
You break out of the crowd to the front and watch as the family dismounts their ikrans. They’re all visibly older. Your eyes roll over each one of them looking for him. Your eyes meet Kiri’s and she smiles at you. As much as she wants to run and hug you, she knows who you’re really looking for. She places her hand on the shoulder of the much taller boy next to her and he turns around. It’s Neteyam. He looks in your direction and it feels like your chest is going to burst open at this very moment. His eyes soften and light up at the sight of you. You both may have gotten older and changed, but there’s no mistaking that smile. You’d know it anywhere. It’s the one thing that’s made you genuinely smile in years.
He takes off running full speed towards you. He scoops you up and twirls you around in a tight embrace. You hold onto him like he’s still not real. You don’t want to let go out of fear that he’ll disappear again if you do.
He sets you down on your feet and looks at you with tears welling in his eyes. Your eyes start to sting with all the emotion of the last 4 lonely years.
“You came back.”
“I told you I would.”

- You bought a bunch of yummy-smelling fall candles, but the sweet scent of fresh cookies mislead your rather hungry boyfriend when he gets home from soccer practice.

Your hands are firmly on the streaming wheel as you take a deep breath in. The car has never smelt better, but it may be a bit too much.
Your head is beginning to pound, and you can practically see the little swirls of festive fragrance in the air. Your favorite Bath Store just got all their new fall-scented candles today, so you just had to go out and check it out. Fresh Pumpkin pie, cinnamon, vanilla, and more. These sweet smells compelled you to completely buy out the store.
As you pull into your driveway, you look back at the extremely heavy shopping bags in the seats behind you. You’ll have to face the consequences of your actions and bring the dozens of candles inside by yourself. 
Stepping out of the car, the fresh, non-artificially scented air soothes your slight headache as you drag your bags to the door. In the back of your mind, you note that the only thing that feels light is your poor wallet. 
But you couldn’t help it. Money management has never been your strong suit, and everything in the damn Candle shop smelled so good. You hear the glass candles clinking together, and you wish that your boyfriend was able to help you carry all these bags in. 
Yes, Rensuke Kunigami, the muscled Pro- footballer, would definitely be able to carry all these bags of candles with no problem.
But, he is at practices, so you have to struggle to carry in the wonderfully festive-smelling candles all by yourself.

It took an embarrassingly long time to do so, but you managed to put all your new three-wick friends away, scattered about the various cabinets and corners of your home.
You chose to bring one of your favorites into your living room to light called Cashmere Cookies, and curl up with a book as a reward. You only make it a few pages before the subtle jingling of keys in your front door captures your attention. 
His practice bag is messily slung over his shoulder, and his coppery hair is completely drenched in sweat, but your boyfriend looks just as handsome as ever. He looks exhausted, but when he sees you all curled up, he can’t help but smile.
“How was training?” You ask, giving him a sweet smile and placing a marker in your novel. You pad over to him and let him hug you, not minding the sweat.
“Long,” he murmurs into your hair. “I hit a PR on back squat today.”
Your brow furrows in concern. “You know I’m always proud of you, but are you sure you’re not overdoing it?” 
“Nah, I’m good.” He mumbles tiredly as he breathes in the air around him. As the scent of your new candle wafts under his nose, the hint of a smile tugs at his lips. “Mmmn, it smells good in here. Did you make cookies?
There is so much hope in his eyes at the prospect of a freshly baked cookie after a grueling day of training it breaks your heart. “N-no, it’s just a candle.”
He frowns, sniffing the scented air again. “I see, it smells just like the real thing. I guess I just have food on the brain.” He looks so dejected as he presses a soft kiss on your head. “I’m gonna go rinse off, but after, how about we order something for dinner tonight and watch a movie or something?”
You nod excitedly at the prospect of a cozy night in. And think of something you can do to make it even sweeter. “Sounds great; I’ll order the food while you shower. You want beef, right?”
“You know it.” He chuckles, heading off to the bathroom with slow, tender steps. His muscles are evidently sore from his tough workout.
As soon as he is out of sight, you make a B-line to the freezer. You dig through it until you find a well-hidden cardboard box of cookie dough you had bought from one of your neighbors’ kids’ fundraiser things. 
You know how much your boyfriend loves to take his time relaxing in the shower after a workout, letting the hot water smooth his aching muscles so you have just enough time to pull this little plan off.
It’s rare for Kunigami to have a sweet tooth, so he hadn’t paid any attention to the box. You take it out and place the frozen dough balls onto a cookie sheet, preheating the oven to the instructed amount.
The oven beeps loudly just as you finish placing your takeout order, and you flinch, hoping that your boyfriend doesn’t hear it over the sound of the shower head.
You slide the tray into the oven as sneakily as you can and set a timer on your phone, thinking that since you have it by you, you’ll be able to turn it off just before it beeps. As the minutes pass, you are thankful that your scented candle still fills the air, covering up the smell of the baking cookies in the oven.
“That candle is really playing tricks on me.” He sighs from down the hallway. In your haste to surprise him, you hadn’t noticed the shower turning off. “Food on the way?”
“It’s almost here,” you tease. He is swearing his Superman pajama pants, so he is definitely serious about having a special night with you. “You certainly took your time in the shower. I was worried I was going to have to go check on you and make sure you didn’t fall over.”
“You know, I just like being clean.” He chuckles. His still-damp hair soaks through his gray sleep shorts, but he looks much happier than earlier. All of a sudden, the phone timer begins to blare, the sound hurting your ears as you finch. 
Where is your phone?
“What was that for?” He asks, watching you lunge across the kitchen table, frantically tapping the end timer button on your phone.
“A surprise, but I really got to change my alarm tone; that thing is painful to listen to.” You laugh, grabbing an oven mitt and tossing open the oven door. You pull out the tray of cookies, and he looks at you as if you had just handed him the World Cup trophy. “Dinner won’t be here for another 20 minutes, so I hope you’re okay with having dessert first.”
The look on his face tells you that he won’t object to a cookie or two before dinner.

He looked over at the couch when he came home to find you curled in a ball under a blanket. 
You really had tried to stay awake, but you just couldn’t. You were so tired, and Yuji said he’d be home an hour and a half ago. 
Eyelids soft and breathing steady, Yuji did his best to stay quiet as he milled around the house.
He got himself something to eat, showered, and changed without you ever waking up. 
“Really?” he whispered to himself when he came out of your shared bedroom, now in pajama pants and a black tank top. He couldn’t believe you were still asleep after all that.
Slowly and carefully, he slid one arm under your back and the other under your knees, and he lifted you. 
You groaned in response, but you nestled into his chest anyway and let him carry you into the bedroom. 
“Yuji…” you muttered, eyes still closed.
He smiled at your voice, muddled by sleep. “Hi, honey,” he cooed, setting you down on your side of the bed.
Your eyes fluttered open and looked straight at him. “How are you?” you asked, voice a little scratchy. 
“I’m good,” he smiled at you. “Better with you around.” He turned off the light and climbed into his side of the bed. 
Dangerously close to falling asleep under the comforting darkness, you pawed around the bed until you found Yuji’s warm body. He huffed a silent laugh. It always made him feel so special when you did that, looking all over for him with your eyes closed, unable to be satisfied until his warmth was pressed against you.
“Miss you,” you whined when your cold fingertips finally found his torso. You moved yourself onto his chest and relaxed an arm over his belly. 
He wrapped both arms around you and squeezed gently. “I know honey,” he said, kissing the top of your head. “I missed you too.”

You were asleep in your reclining chair, book resting on your chest as you dozed. 
Fushiguro found you as soon as he walked in the door. He smiled to himself. 
How long did you last in that chair? You always ended up falling asleep in it before he got home. It didn’t look like you made it very far in your book, either.
He walked to the chair and squatted beside it. “Hey,” he whispered, shaking you slightly. “Hey!” he said again, this time a little louder. 
You finally stirred, breathing deeply and stretching before opening your eyes. You smiled softly. “Hi, baby,” you said. 
“Hi,” he said, hand still resting on your arm. “Let’s go to bed. It’s late.”
You nodded slowly and started to get up. Megumi turned off the lamp beside the chair, and he reached for your hand. You gladly took it. He led you into the bedroom.
You both undressed in silence. 
You climbed into bed first, now warm under the blankets. Megumi followed after turning on the lamp and turning off the bigger light. 
You laid on your back and stared up at him as he propped himself up on one arm. You finally asked, “How was the job?”
He shrugged in response. “Same as always,” he said. 
You giggled, “That’s almost never true.”
You were always this way when he came home from a mission. You always wanted to know everything. He loved how curious you were about everything that surrounded him. 
Resting a hand on your belly, he told you plainly every little detail. 
Usually, he would’ve kept it to himself. He knew how dangerous it could be if details like this got out. But he knew that you could be trusted. 
At the end, you told him, “You’re so brave,” with a gentle sleepy smile, gently stroking his face with the backs of your fingers. “I’m proud of you.”
“Thank you, love,” he said, reaching to plant a kiss on your forehead. “We both need to sleep,” he suggested. So that’s exactly what you did.

She found you asleep on the couch, the “Are you still watching?” prompt on Netflix on your TV. The remote rested on your belly. 
Nobara couldn’t help but smile. God, you were cute. 
She turned the TV off and knelt in front of you. She started to pepper kisses on your face. You groaned in response and turned your face to avoid her attack. “Don’t you turn away from me!” she teased, getting up on her feet and continuing her barrage. 
Now you were smiling and giggling. “That’s my baby!” she cooed when she saw the smile on your face. She sat on the edge of the couch, hand resting on your belly. “How are you?” she asked. 
“Sleepy,” you whined, rubbing your eyes. 
Nobara smiled at you again. “Well let’s go to bed then,” she resolved. “I’m exhausted.” She stood up in front of you and waited for you to get up. 
You stood up and followed her to bed. You changed your clothes and laid on your back.
When you were both finally tucked in she wrapped both of her arms around one of yours. 
Nobara’s face was nestled into your shoulder. You hummed at the warmth that she provided. 
“What is this?” she teased. “No cuddling?”
You laughed a little at that. 
You turned over and wrapped both arms around her. 
Now her face was nestled into your chest. You could smell her hair, the scent of her sweet shampoo wafting through your nose. 
The overwhelming warmth and comfort had you dozing off to sleep within minutes, safe in each other’s arms.

The apartment was quiet when Toge came in the door, though that wasn’t unusual for your home.
He looked around for a minute, the only light coming from a golden lamp in the corner. You were curled in a little ball on the couch, snoozing with your knees pulled up to your chest. 
Toge knelt in front of you and grazed his fingers against your face. You stirred slowly, but you didn’t open your eyes yet. You just thought that maybe one of your hairs brushed against your face. 
But you felt it again just moments later. The feeling was warm against your face, and you stirred toward it this time, a soft hum escaping your lungs with a smile. 
“Kelp,” you heard next to you, his voice low and calm.
You smiled more deeply, and you finally opened your eyes. “Hi baby,” you said when you finally saw him.
He finally took his mask off, and you could see him smile softly at you. “What time is it?” you asked, words slurred from your interrupted sleep.
Inumaki pulled out his phone and showed you the screen. It was a little after midnight. 
“You must be exhausted,” you remarked, remembering how he’d left before you were even awake this morning. 
He sighed, “Salmon,” as he stroked your face with his hands again. You could tell there was more. He wanted to say that he missed you, that he loved you, and that all he wanted was to fall into bed and hold you all night. 
You got up off the couch, Inumaki standing right next to you. You stretched for quite a while before offering him your hand. “Come on,” you said. “Let’s go to bed.”
Inumaki took your hand, grateful that you were somehow able to read his mind.
Once you were both changed into your pajamas, you settled into your shared bed and moved to find each other. You were the small spoon this time, your back pressed as closely to Toge’s chest as possible. 
“I love you,” you muttered, just barely time to speak before you fell jjasleep again.
With a soft, sleepy smile, Toge whispered back, “Salmon,” before sleep overcame him as well.

Heyoooo everyone! I’m gonna gush a little bit about my gym rat hobby so please feel free to ignore me! I’m just super excited with the results I got this week. :)
For those of ya who are curious:
As of this coming April, I’d have been weight training consistently for a year. The past 5 weeks I entered a prep block to get myself prepared, and this week was the self-appointed Personal Record test I set for myself. The goal of the test is to... well. TEST how strong I’d become and the progress I made in comparison to when I first started out by finding my 1 Rep Max (and in the case of pullups, how many I can do before I can’t do anymore in one go).
The lifts I used for the testing were Barbell Bench Press, Deadlifts, and Pullups. I would’ve also tested for Squats but an old injury in my knee started acting up, so for my own safety I opted against it until I can retrain it and try later at the end of the year.
ANYWAY! The results of those tests are:
Bench Press: Last 1RM-150lbs | Current 1RM- 170lbs
Deadlift: Last 1RM- 210lbs | Current 1RM- 265lbs
Pullups: Last max: 0 pullups unassisted | Current max: 9 pullups unassisted

Numbers aren’t necessarily important in the grand scheme of things, BUT they’re very good for me to know in order to calculate how much I should be lifting in order to become stronger and for how many reps/sets, as well as giving me an additional visual representation of the progress I’m making outside of photos.
I am naturally competitive --specifically toward myself-- so what I see when looking at these numbers is defaulting to “Cool but now I need to get stronger”. But I’m trying to make myself take a step back and actually appraise the progress I’ve made thus far and to remember to be proud of it, even if it may not feel like I made a lot of progress at all.
And taking that step back: overall? I’m very happy with the results! And quite frankly very surprised. I went into the test with base goals and trying to be open that there’s a very high likelihood of failing to reach those goal PRs this time. But I managed to outperform my own expectations, and while small part of me will forever whisper “it wasn’t you. You did it wrong. You’re lying to yourself,” it’s a little harder to deny it when I had another person actively watching me and recording the tests so I can actually see myself do it.
“You are your biggest critique” is ever the true statement man. But I’m definitely trying to learn how to be more open to success in the gym. I mean c’mon; I started at barely being able to do one pullup with 100lbs of assistance. Now I can do nine with no help? It’s not a big number, but it’s still a much bigger number than where I was, and I can be proud of that.
I guess the roundabout of me talking about this is to remind ya to take a step back and be proud of the progress you’ve made up to this point, no matter what it is. Any progress is still progress, and you can’t brush that off.
The game face can be put on; aim for that higher number, strive for more, but don’t forget to take inventory of where you started vs where you are now. You may surprise yourself. :)

BUT YEAH! TL;DR I think I have gotten a little stronger. I’ll be taking a couple of days break away from the gym to rest up, then will be back on my bullshit with the new training block + my 1st attempt at a minicut. We’ll see how that goes ;w;

for the neighbors au: idk what kind of building they’re in, but in my mind it’s a nicer place with shared amenities like a gym or something and so max starts seeing daniel around at the gym when he’s going to work out and he’s just so annoyed at how hot the guy is. maybe there’s a big bank of mirrors and daniel is doing body weight workouts somewhere and max is lifting weights in the corner but gets distracted by how good daniel looks at drops a weight on his foot. when daniel comes over to check on him (because maybe they’re the only ones in there at the time) max tells him to fuck off because he’s embarrassed about his horny-induced injury
I love that we're all agreed that the pseudo beef is on Max's side. Brilliant
Max reracked his bar, leaning against the post to catch his breath. He was feeling good today, strong- maybe he could get a new PR out of it.
He reached for his waterbottle when he heard a sound. Glancing behind him through the ceiling to floor mirror, he watched as Daniel worked through a set of weighted hip thrusts.
Max missed his mouth with his straw.
He'd been the only one in the building's gym when he started his workout. He liked coming at this time because he normally had the place to himself. No one to bother him or steal equipment he wanted.
He hadn't even realized Daniel had come in, so focused he was. He shook his head to stop himself from oggling his neighbor while he worked out. Max hated it when people stared at him on a good day, he hated it doubly at the gym.
Slamming a new set of plates onto the bar, Max went back to his workout.
Daniel sat on the floor with his back against a padded block. He glanced over the gym floor to see his neighbor squatting some serious weight. He was impressed, but it made sense because his thighs were outrageous.
Daniel hadn't even come in to work legs. Today was an upper day, and he'd wanted to practice stupid shit like handstand pushups. But he wasn't planning to with an audience, much less Max. He already seemed to make a fool of himself in front of him and he didn't need to add 'clumsily collapsing in the gym ' to the list.
Besides, he couldnt shake the feeling that Max didn't like him for some reason. He couldn't figure it out and decided to admire from afar where Max was concerned.
Max made a grunting noise and Daniel looked over to see that he seemed... Stuck. The problem was he was squatting pretty heavy, so he probably make it back up. Springing into action, Daniel rolled his bar from his lap and sprinted to the other side of the gym to spot Max and help him re rack his weight.
"you almost had it, that's some serious weight I'm fucking impressed man." Daniel smiled at Max through the mirror, pushing wet curls off his forehead. Max frowned at him, blue eyes steely.
"I had it." He said almost bitchily and Daniel recoiled. Max was annoyed..he was embarrassed and annoyed. Not only did he just embarrass himself by ego lifting and showing off, he had to do it in front of Daniel who ended helping him not hurt himself. So he was more embarrassed than annoyed.
"uh yeah sorry. Right number 1 rule. Don't touch the bar. My bad man. I'll leave you to it." Daniel rambled before walking away, back to his set up in the corner. Max watched his ass the entire time, salivating at the peak of a thigh tattoo
