i need some help characterizing shoto todoroki in my new multi-chapt fic im cooking in the oven right now.

y/n is a shy girl who cant hold a good conversation with someone she doesn't know, or trust. But she is stern and doesn't change her opinions often.

When she enrolls into U.A. and meets shoto, he dosent like her at all at first, or well, he dosent even know she exists. But after the U.S.J incident, when she used her quirk to defeat multiple villains, then he really starts to take an interest in her.

when he finally realizes that she has power matching his, how should he react? should he make her a rival and enemy? or be her friend and make her someone he can trust.

(im still debating making them a slowburn yet, or just make them friends.)

Lowkey Shoto has shown us how he’d act already, that was his initial dynamic when dealing with Deku. He was constantly mildly annoyed and bothered by his presence, but very curious.

But being that she’s also standoffish, it would probably be more of an unspoken rivalry. So he might think he’s actively showing interest in her but she’s reading it as him looking down on her or challenging her skills/intelligence.

Some things:

Being around Kaminari, especially after training, makes your hairs stand up. It’s like being around an electrically charged ballon, everything is staticy.

Kirishima’s skin ripples with his quirk of you scare him. It was a thing in the dorms for a while to jump out and scare him.

If you can SOMEHOW manage to make Uraraka upset, she’ll make you float and walk away. Have fun crawling around the ceiling for the next hour.

Bakugou is a polyglot, I’ve said this before. But his insults get REAL creative in other languages. He has insulted people, patiently waited for them to look up what he said, then laughed in their face when they finally confront him.

Yaoyarozu makes little knickknacks to actively work on her quirk while she’s walking around the dorms and she leaves them in random spots because she knows her classmates love stumbling upon them.

I am trying to write the older Izuku but after the war, has affected his personality because you know TRAUMA. There is some that has been animated. I am kind of struggling to characterize him correctly since he isn't the same as before. He is still kind

I think without context I can only give you a more general answer. But I think Izuku would be mostly the same but his trauma responses to others being injured, his hyper-vigilance, and his temper would be a lot more aggressive.

So let’s say he has a lot of anxiety about his partner opening the front door when he’s not home. Or if a friend calls him and sounds even mildly distressed, he might just go to their house to make sure they aren’t in danger without a second thought (even if it’s something super minor). Or some villain does something villainous(idk lmao) he might deal with really bad blackout rage.

I feel like on a day to day basis, Izuku’s trauma isn’t noticeable. But if something manages to trigger him, it’d be an immediate oh fuck moment for everyone involved.

Hey! It's me again who enjoys your characterization of Izuku and the other characters. I know you already have planned to wait until the end of the series to do a character assessment of the green curly haired teen, but I am actually cooking something-

I am cooking a fanfic of an Izuku x reader one-shot where they have a class reunion a decade later and I was thinking how would an adult Izuku be like as a pro-hero and civilian. Regarding his genuine and compassionate traits as well as his sassy and bold traits, would he be alot more bold and confident? Or would it be a mix of all of his traits increased higher since Izuku can emontionally adapt to the environment around him?

Reader is a pragmatic, logical and docile character who isn't a pro-hero but works as a high ranking Hero Commission Officer that manages Public Relations and Partnerships. While it has been a while since they have seen each other because they were in different departments at UA, but Izuku has seen her in seminars and admires her tenacity and logical comprehension skills on PR, while she admires Izuku's compassion and determination as a hero which inspired her own drive of career.

Sounds alot and I apologize, but I wonder how he'd be like as an adult in his 20s, considering reader can be sassy when her pride is being challenged or being teased. So I wonder how the personality dynamics would be with him meeting her at a reunion

Hello again my love 🩷 I absolutely love this idea and I’m sorry I can’t do a CC on him yet to help you but I will tell you this.

The best part about Izuku is that he’s such a normal guy. He’s not mean, or scary, or overly flirtatious. He’s just like a normal guy that you’d meet in any random place and have a fairly pleasant conversation with.

I think in his professional life he can probably come off as more confident and bold in press conferences or interviews but if you can’t him incognito in a bookstore or something he’s just a sweet kind of awkward guy. The way you behave while working, especially at a high stress job, is probably not how you act off the clock.

So now, in regards to your fic, a lot of how they act initially towards each other will be based off of what the remember about each other from school. Was Y/N cold or standoffish during their brief interactions at UA? Then he’ll probably come off as kind of awkward at the reunion. Was she warm but quiet? Then he’ll probably be pretty sweet on her. Also! He still has traits he remembers liking about her, so even if it’s awkward at first, he’ll probably nerd out about all the work he’s seen her involved in.

If as adults, they’re both sweet and logical people, they’d probably have a very sweet and doting relationship. And being that the both can get sassy when their intellect is challenged, they’d either be the type that have to calm one another down or they start absolutely losing it for each others sake.

Somehow I never really thought too much about quirk discrimination. Obviously that’s basically the entire premise of the show,

Quirk vs Quirkless

Destructive/Monstrous Quirks vs Heroic quirks

Etc.

But I didn’t think about it on like a normal personal bias level. Like regular job discrimination, or dating discrimination. The same way your friend may be like “omg I’m never dating a boy with green eyes again” because that one person was a tool, but now it’s every guy with green eyes.

The same biases would happen with quirks, one guy with a power quirk was an asshole and now you can never date guys with a power quirk. Or your ex girlfriend was a speedster and now you can never date anyone with a speed quirk.

Maybe an office hired someone with a shrinking quirk and they got stepped on, so now they just don’t hire anyone with size shifting quirks because they’re “a legal liability”.

This show is so big and small all at the same time.

Characterizing Characters:

Kaminari Denki:

I’ll be using the source material to create a simple list of traits he has already, then based on those traits, things we can infer about him based on those behaviors.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is a very cautious kid. He actively weighs risks involved with actions, though he’s normally not taken seriously.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is acutely aware of his powers. He will outright refuse to use them if it isn’t safe for him to use them. He’s one of the only students in the show to be conscious of this early in the series.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is one of the only characters in the (beginning) series to pick on/not be afraid of Bakugou’s outbursts.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is a fairly calm kid outside of high pressure situations. He’s a chill dude.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is one of the only characters to have a true canonical crush on someone. (Where it has literally been addressed.)

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is NOT dumb. He may have some of the lowest grades in his class, but he has the lowest grades in the top class, of the most exclusive program, in the most exclusive school.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is a very sweet child. Seem to regularly check on and worry about his friend’s physical and mental health.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari has quirk envy! He does not like how dangerous his quirk can be.

SourceMaterial!Kaminari is one of the only students we see whose quirk has a severe immediate negative effect on the user.

Now we can make some inferences based on the information we have already.

ProHero!Kaminari would be a media ICON. Press conferences, guest appearances, talk shows. He’s doing it all.

ProHero!Kaminari would not start his own agency, he would work with or under one of his classmates.

ProHero!Kaminari would probably be used as a defibrillator at some point in his career. He was sent out to more rescue missions after that.

ProHero!Kaminari would have severe, full body quirk scarring.

ProHero!Kaminari would’ve dealt with some kind of brain damage from quirk overuse.

Now some Kaminari headcanons! ⚡️

Kaminari struggled with seizures when his quirk was manifesting. It’s not so much an issue as an adult, but it’s still monitored.

Kaminari and Jirou are the first two to have a merch collab.

Kaminari took multiple years off from hero work after graduation. The pressure was getting to him.

Kaminari gives little static shocks to his friends as a joke.

Kaminari does not like when people joke about his brain issue after quirk use. But he lives with it because he knows it looks funny, even if it hurts.

Doesn’t agree with Mineta’s behavior, but thinks he’s a cool dude otherwise.

Kaminari is the youngest of 4 sisters.

Remember when you met Eijirou?

You had been attending UA University for a few months now, you’d been having tons of fun.

Maybe a little too much. You may not be in the hero course, but that does not mean you can keep slacking off!

One of your girlfriends convinced you to finally go to the campus gym together.

Good god it was MASSIVE. And not so unexpectedly, it was absolutely full of other students. It was maybe a little (very) intimidating.

The first few workouts you just kept feeling like there were eyes on you. Maybe it was just nerves, you were a little out of practice, after all.

But the next workout you were sure. You were struggling a bit to hit a new squat PR. You were wobbling a bit too much for his comfort.

Next thing you knew, some buff redhead with a goofy smile was helping you bail out. Pointy.

He was happily giving you tips and pointers on your form, routine, protein intake, seemingly anything he could think of.

“The names’ Kirishima Eijirou. I could show you my routine sometime?”

You agreed, he was cute, and you definitely wanted a little help.

Soon you guys were working out together a few times a week. Then you were eating out together every once in a while.

At some point you found yourself dyeing his dark roots his signature bright red. Him sitting between your legs, idly stroking your shins, face masks quickly hardening on your faces.

“Babe, it itchesss.” He whined, looking up at you with those pretty crimson eyes.

“We’re almost done, 10 more minutes, sweet man.”

To be honest the way you post the canon character traits from bhna is phenomenal and it allows me to orchestrate my writing based on canon sources as fanon tends to be too OOC or elements that was never present with the characters.

But what caught my eye is Izuku's character traits. Because it is true he is kind and genuine but has the patience of a patron saint. But rereading the first half of the manga and series I noticed how violent and angry Izuku can get when he let's loose. He doesn't discriminate when it comes to his anger and I realize how sassy and salty he can also be when he wants to be. Years of bullying and torment, combined with the influence of someone else (Bakugou) can influence his own emotions, thus pointing out how violent and angry Izuku can become in tense situations. He can really put someone in their place if he really wants to.

I get extremely attached to shonen characters because I see them in my own siblings. And I take media literacy very seriously, so I try to be as accurate to the characters as possible when I write about them (even though I absolutely LOOOOOVE fanon content.)
