my least favorite thing about having autism + CPTSD is how a trigger of mine can be barely touched and then im silently crying on/off for the rest of the day as i have an autistic shut-down
#my mom was telling me my half-siblings were coming over on sunday. and i just broke#context: my half-siblings have a 20+ year age gap with me and vaguely knew our shared dad was abusing me#and i get not wanting to confirm if abuse is happening to protect yourself from said past abuser and whatnot#but i also just think about the fact that i dont have any of their phone-numbers and none of them checked in on me#and they just come over on christmas (and potentially when invited on fathers day/dad's birthday and whatnot)#and like. if you ask me: i dont consider someone i see for a total of less than 10 hours a year who#also never checked in on if their youngest sibling was being abused for 20+ years a sibling or family#at best: youre like a second cousin three times removed from me or some shit#the people that were with me every day or most days are my family#but yeah. i cant take masking in front of dad AND them rn. so i just fucking broke down#(also: my nieces and nephews are fine. i have no grudges against them. we just also are not close)#(my half-siblings i dont have a grudge against in the sense of actively hating them. i just want them cut out of my life)#(which sucks bc like. my dad is to blame. hes the abuser. it sucks his abuse impacts how i see my half-siblings. but dad is dying and i jus#want his funeral to be the last i hear/see from my half-siblings. like i will get pissed of they try to reconnect post his death like stfu)#(adults who didnt intervene bc they had no idea: fair enough. // adults who didnt intervene even tho they had a p good idea bc they#were abused by the same person: fuck you. like. just be estranged from me (and dad) my whole life. i could pardon that. not this tho.)#anyway. i think the solution is to just: not be home on sunday#idk what my lie will be but im still crying about all this.so evidently i doubt ill be able to disassociate well enough to ''tough it out''#barnes and nobles sounds nice. i probably would want to bring my cat with me in her backpack but thatll be suspicious so idk#maybe ill just fake sick in my bedroom. i dont want to tho#id rather just leave the house#ill probably get some pushback bc its dad's birthday celebration but i think its p obvious ill start crying soooooo#shame my mom thought she was being nice (she was. my half-sibs and my dad is dying. of course they wanna be there for his birthday)#i just wish things were different#might delete later

ok maybe I'm a little late to this BUT I'm gonna do a to-do list motivation thingy because I've had the worst two weeks since I started college :)
SO these I should start on asap:
50 I make the snack I really want but I haven't had the motivation to make
100 I clean my dorm. another thing I've been meaning to do for a week
150 I do the presentation about mid-victorian fashion I've been putting off (due Monday)
200 I start memorizing the monologue that was due a week ago (now due Tuesday)
these can wait longer:
300 I spend time outside. It's so nice but I'm getting stuck scrolling because I feel like shit. vicious cycle ect
500 I start setting a better weekend routine (aka getting up before noon)
1k I start working out again. I was doing a routine to get more masc and build muscle and I liked it but life hit me like Crowley driving the Bentley and I've missed like 3 weeks
2k I buy my first binder. I've been coping with sports bras for almost a year now and I haven't been able to justify spending $50+ on a binder even though I know I'd love it and use it everyday.
Do I tag people? I don't know but I'm going to. @the-globe-theatre-maggot @weirdly-specific-but-ok @howmanyholesinswisscheese
here's just some context if you want to read, feel free to skip. some of this I've talked about in the maggot server, some I haven't, but I really just need a place for this to go that's out of my head. tw homophobia, transphobia, car crash(??)
How I Have Been Run Over By The Bentley Going 90 In Central London What Feels Like 50 Times In The Last Two Weeks
I'm going to college about 4 hours away from my parents, and it's been really nice. They.. suck, to say the least. transphobic/homophobic ect, super traditional conservative catholic, racist, all of it. so i tried to move somewhere where I wouldn't have to think about them and I could be myself and do what I can to be happy. March 1st was the start of my spring break, which meant going home because the dorms close. I was already not excited, but I was prepared. the problem with being away from home is I forget just how bad they are. My optimism gets the better of me and I think maybe this time they'll be better. so I decided to not hide my septum piercing.
that was a mistake. it starts a whole fight where they say we know you're trans, you're actually a girl and you always will be, we have the bones argument, they think I'm being influenced by demons or something (if only they knew about crowley) because I want to change my name, and they tell me that going on t will completely ruin my body and give me cancer and other things. They're also mad about my dyed hair, septum, and general style, and say I'm setting a terrible example for my (5) younger siblings and make it a point to tell me just how much of a disappointment I am. I think I'm pretty cute and fun but y'know, whatever. very fun time. I lie so much, don't give them any more details about my identity, and say I'm not planning to go on t to save my ass. which is all on instinct which makes me feel worse because if I'm really trans I should be able to stand up for that, right? maybe I'm faking the dysphoria.
the next morning I wake up really sick, and spend the rest of the week sick and feeling like shit because I'm home and back in the same place and situation I was a year ago that I thought I escaped. at one point I pretty much lose my voice but also kind of get gender euphoria from it. it's weird.
On Friday it's time for me to drive back 4 hours to school, and I make it about 3/4 of the way when google maps takes me on a random gravel road and I crash my car, really crash my car, like sideways-in-a-ditch-windows-broken-crawling-up-out-the-door crash it in the middle of nowhere. (I was fully paying attention to the road, it was raining and super slick) I call my parents because I have no one else to call and I sit in a Subway for 3 hours while they drive to get my car. when they get there they're (understandably) really mad, and they tell me that I'm not mature enough to be going to school so far away and I need to get my shit together and stop depending on them. which. is probably true. but made me feel even more stupid about the fact that I crashed my car. I get back to school and I'm still Very Sick with no energy or motivation to do anything. So I've spent the last week trying to get better and honestly to do anything. it hasn't really worked. I'm a lot better health-wise (Not emotionally), still sick but I have a lot of work due, so I really need a push to get started

TRAITOR - carlos sainz
- inspired by traitor | olivia rodrigo
in which . . y/n struggle with the pain of betrayal after a breakup when carlos quickly moves on with someone else, leaving her questioning their entire relationship and the promises he broke.
warnings : a lowkey toxic relationship if u squint ur eyes at a few sentences, ntg else i think?
notes : second fully written work! ‘heather’ didn’t really do as well as i hoped it would tbh :( but i hope this one does better 🤞🏼 and lexi, i’m sorry if i made you cry but ily my hype girl 🫶🏼
and for a person who usually hates angst, i seem to write them the best 😓
plsplspls don’t ask for a part 2 for fics that do not have any info about them being a series.
type : written ⋆ word count : 1.2k
brown guilty eyes and little white lies, yeah i played dumb, but i always knew
that you talked to her, maybe did even worse
i kept quiet so i could keep you
carlos’ big brown eyes were one of the prettiest ones i had ever seen in her entire life. no matter how common brown eyes were, his eyes would always be the ones i would look for in the crowd. i didn’t know the exact day when the eyes she knew she could always find comfort in suddenly became the ones i started avoiding. it all started with little white lies like “i can’t make it to the date tonight, i have to stay late for practice” or “i’m meeting with the boys tonight! don’t stay up late waiting for me”.
those texts never sat right in my heart; they sounded too fake, too scripted. i could never manage to go too deep into her own thoughts about what he actually might be doing with her while i was waiting for him to come back home.
and ain’t it funny
how you ran to her
the second we called it quits?
i could almost laugh through the pain while reading the new article about you and her being spotted by the paparazzi the day after we called finally ended all those years of being each other’s one and only.
and ain’t it funny
how you said you were friends?
now it sure as hell don’t look like it
he always said that they were just friends, that they were close due to a mutual friend. that’s what he told everyone who asked him about her. but all these recent pictures online don’t really make a good argument against them being a couple.
you betrayed me
and i know that you'll never feel sorry
for the way i hurt, yeah
you’d talk to her
when we were together
loved you at your worst
but that didn't matter
feeling betrayed wasn’t an emotion i was well versed in or had been anticipating to be in this life, clearly fate had other plans.
i kept hoping that i would maybe get a text from you, an apology for all those years of my life wasted on making sure you were okay when you were at your lowest and worst point of your life.
all those years wasted. all because you decided halfway that you wanted her and not me.
it took you two weeks
to go off and date her
guess you didn't cheat
but you're still a traitor
two weeks. that was all it took for you to move on from a relationship that lasted for years. everyone says that you guys look so cute together, maybe if you heard that enough before, you would have ended up with her earlier and not have been labelled a traitor in my heart.
now you bring her around
just to shut me down
show her off like she's a new trophy
we finally ran into each other at a bar almost three months after the breakup. the second you saw me, you pulled her by her waist and kissed her right in front of me, showing her off like she was a new trophy.
and i know if you were true
there’s no damn way that you
could fall in love with somebody that quickly
if you were as true to us as you claimed you were, i’m damn sure that there’s no way you could have actually been able to move on so quickly and fall in love with someone else.
ain’t it funny
all the twisted games
all the questions you used to avoid?
was whatever we had just some sick twisted game to you? one that you oh so badly had to play? all those questions that you always seemed to be too busy to answer suddenly came back to me, they seemed harmless at that time, if only i knew.
ain’t it funny?
remember i brought her up
and you told me i was paranoid
remember that one time i brought her name up during a conversation? how you called me paranoid and sick because of how i was villainising her, i had just asked you if she had to stay with us when she came to visit even though she has friends who live here.
you betrayed me
and i know that you'll never feel sorry
for the way i hurt, yeah
you’d talk to her
when we were together
loved you at your worst
but that didn't matter
you left my life without a second thought, and i know that you will never understand the pain of being the one to be left alone while the other moved on like none of it ever existed. you always wanted her in your life, even when i was right there. i stood by you through everything, through your lowest points, but it didn’t change anything in the end.
it took you two weeks
to go off and date her
guess you didn't cheat
but you're still a traitor
you really wasted no time jumping into her arms, as if what we had didn’t mean anything. maybe you weren’t unfaithful, but seeing the way you moved on so fast hurts the same.
god, I wish that you had thought this through
before i went and fell in love with you
when she's sleeping in the bed we made
don’t you dare forget about the way
i just wish that you had thought about what i would do after you decided that you were bored of me, atleast before i fell in love with you.
i want you to remember how we cuddled, cried, laughed, loved and cared in the same bed that she is now sleeping in.
you betrayed me
'cause i know that you'll never feel sorry
for the way i hurt, yeah
you’d talk to her
when we were together
you gave me your word
but that didn't matter
i realize now that you’ll never take responsibility for breaking my heart. you left me behind without a hint of remorse, as if my feelings were never real to you. even when you promised me forever, she was always there, lurking in the background. your words meant nothing in the end, just empty promises that you broke without a second glance.
it took you two weeks
to go off and date her
guess you didn't cheat
but you're still
you’re still a traitor
yeah, you're still a traitor
two weeks was all it took for you to forget us, to move on like i was nothing. you didn’t break the rules, but you broke my trust, and that’s just as cruel. no matter how much time passes, the sting of betrayal lingers. you might think you’re innocent, but deep down, we both know what you did.
god, i wish that you had thought this through
before i went and fell in love with you
if only you had thought this stupid thing throughout, maybe i wouldn’t be in my bed crying over how much loving you and your beautiful brown eyes had taken from me.

Part Two
Summary: When John gets an unexpected invite to his ex-wife’s wedding, he scrambles to find a suitable date to take with him to ward off old ghosts from his past.
Notes: trans John, fat reader, subtle transphobia from minor characters
John was sat in his flat watching a Match of the Day rerun for a football game he’d missed while away when his phone buzzed on the kitchen counter.
His head swivelled over to it to see if it buzzed again, determining it unimportant enough to ignore for the time being when it stayed silent. Kate always called, so it wasn’t work and anyone else that was texting him after 9pm could wait.
It buzzed a second time, then a third and a fourth in quick succession and he felt curiosity twinge at the base of his skull. He pushed himself up, ignoring when one of his knees popped, and grabbed his phone.
Your name flashed up on the screen and he opened the chat without hesitation.
>> the photos from today, don’t forget to swap them out :)
He flicked through the photos you’d sent before picking one at random to save.
John sat back on his couch and agonised over swapping his lock screen.
It was currently an old photo of Charlotte from their honeymoon, and it had stayed that way this entire time in spite of the divorce. He had kept her there even when he’d removed her photos from his desk and was unable to put any up in his new flat. His little secret. Though he knew Kate had seen it despite his best efforts to leave his civilian phone at his flat or turned off during his office hours.
But now…
He felt almost queasy as he selected the new photo. It felt like the first of many final nails in the relationship’s coffin that John would have to deal with over the next month in the lead up to Charlotte’s big day.
It felt like he was mourning a relationship already six years dead.
---
John adapted quickly to seeing your face on his phone screen at the end of the day over the next two weeks, even if he did miss seeing Charlotte’s cheery smile, and found it just as easy to accept seeing your name pop up more and more frequently when you messaged with a new question you’d thought of regarding the wedding or your fake relationship.
It was easy to talk to you, he found. Easy to let his guard down just a tinge and to try and bury the hurt he felt.
>> what’s a childhood story you’d have told me about a couple months in?
<< I fell out of a tree when I was 12, was meant to be grounded at the time so I had to walk home with broken ribs and a scraped up arm and leg. Tried to pretend nothing had happened when my mum got back from work, but it didn’t fool her.
>> i broke my arm climbing a tree too, maybe one of our dates should’ve been at a forest climbing adventure place lol
<< You wouldn’t have wanted to be wined and dined?
>> sure but it can get a little boring
>> you wouldn’t have wanted to hypothetically stare at my arse cinched in climbing gear?
>> were there food options for the wedding? like on planes? i’m not a veggie so you dodged a bullet if you chose a main with meat but i do love pasta if we’re able to swap last minute
<< Everyone loves pasta.
<< And no, think it’s an open buffet.
>> i’ll bring a doggy bag for snacks on the way home then
>> waste not, want not
<< Say that in front of my dad and he might just add you to his will.
>> this is the dress I have in mind, what do you think?
<< Good choice.
>> glowing praise, john, i’ll take that as it won’t cause a scandal among the locals
<< Don’t think you’ll be the one causing a scandal, Sunshine.
It was in a rare occasion he’d texted you first that you arranged to meet up a second time. He’d asked about the plans you’d mentioned a few days back and was currently waiting for a reply while he tried to slog through his own work.
>> was super excited for the play today but I think I might have to cancel my tickets, my friend was driving us there but her kid has gotten sick so she can’t go now :/
<< Where were you going?
>> it’s at a park on the other side of the city with the outdoor stage, i could grab a couple of buses but i don’t know if i’d make it in time
John put down the dry sandwich he was eating and looked at the meeting reports he’d been ignoring for the last ten minutes while texting you.
<< I’ll come pick you up.
>> really??
<< Sure. Send me your address and I’ll be there soon, Sunshine.
John had barely parked up outside your house before you were opening the door and giving him an excited smile and wave.
“I love stuff like this anyway, but this community group have put on some amazing portrayals of Shakespeare’s plays over the years despite their low budget and they make it so accessible with cheap tickets and the outdoor venue. It’s cut down so the teens performing have a better chance at remembering their lines, but it’s always one hell of a forty-five minute show. I think it’s Othello this time, but honestly I’d watch anything,” you rambled as you buckled your seatbelt. “It’s always good to support local art.”
“So we’re seeing Shakespeare?” John confirmed.
“It’s at the open air theatre inside the park.”
“Been a while since I went to the theatre, longer than that since I’ve been in a park.”
“What do you do in your off time?” You asked with a snort.
“Don’t get much off time,” John said easily, unbothered. It was him after all that had decided work would become his priority.
“Well then I’m glad we’re getting to see this together,” you said. “I’ve had a pretty long week too.”
“Hm?”
At his inquisitive hum you fell into complaining about your managers and the long, tiring shifts you pulled.
It didn’t take you long in the car to get to the park however and you were soon jumping out. You gaped a little when John got out and joined you at the front of the car.
“Holy hell you’re tall, shit a brick,” you said, staring. You’d noticed he was broad at the café and he seemed to fill the cab of his pick-up, but he’d been slumped and seated both times so you’d assumed he was maybe creeping just below 6’ and the rest was his attitude that made him seem all encompassing. Looking at him stood up to his full height now was something else, even as he tucked his chin down and slumped his shoulders to speak with you. “I think we’ll have to sit at the back for this or someone might complain.”
John rolled his eyes but you saw the hint of a smile play at his lips as he agreed.
You led him eagerly to the crowd you could see gathering at the entrance of the outdoor stage; the front four rows of the small open air auditorium had been unfolded for the event, suggesting the size of the crowd expected. You both elected to take a seat on the back row as others started to head to the front, but he nudged you fondly when he saw you shift excitedly waiting for it to start.
John pulled out his phone when he felt it buzz in his pocket, but put it back when he saw it was just a reminder to sort out his tux for the wedding.
“Cute pic,” you said with a sly smile when you caught his lock screen. “We should take another, might be more convincing if we have more than one photo of us doing stuff together, right?”
John leant into your side and hesitantly wrapped his arm around you, stiff where it draped over the back of your seat, for the photo.
You were no better, your smile suddenly tight at the corners as you took a quick snap. You held your breath until he moved back, his aftershave surprisingly enticing and the warmth and weight of his arm too inviting.
It wouldn’t do for you to become attracted to John, not that it was something you could control, you knew. But maybe if you just wished it hard enough it wouldn’t make the weekend away with him more difficult than it had to be; falling for a man still blatantly in love with his ex never ended well for anyone.
You smiled a little weakly at him when nudged you again, nodding at the community group making their way onto the stage in front of the clapping crowd.
Maybe attraction would be fine you decided, already knowing how impulsively forgetful and weak-willed you got when your vibrator was between your legs - you could already imagine his name slipping through loose lips, and you couldn’t blame yourself for it as you sneakily took in his side profile - just as long as there were no real feelings from your side.
---
You’d graduated from texting to calling when John mentioned one night that he found it hard to multitask while at work. You’d offered to leave him alone and talk to him once he was done later but he’d been quick to interrupt, said instead that although he couldn’t text and write at the same time, he’d be fine talking and writing.
It’s how he found himself sat at his desk with his phone propped next to him on speaker, listening to you complain about the shitty restaurants near your work.
“I need to get back into meal prepping, or at least start buying something nicer pre-made to bring for lunch. If I have to eat another Greggs meal deal I think I’ll throw up, John,” you bemoaned.
“There’s a new place just opened up ‘round the corner to you, you know?” He said, checking over his team’s reports before signing them off. At your interested hum he continued. “Greek place I think. The sergeants went the other day, said it was a good menu and they’re usually quite picky about where they spend their free time together.”
“That sounds perfect, I’ll meet you there in twenty?” You asked rhetorically, already gathering your stuff to take your lunch break. “I can order for us both in case it takes you longer so it’ll be served by time you arrive. See you in a bit, bye!” You didn’t wait for him to confirm or reply in any capacity, too excited for a delicious lunch.
John stared down at his phone where the screen fell black through lack of use at the ended call. He took a moment to recount the conversation and where he’d gotten mixed up before reluctantly dropping his pen and grabbing his coat and keys.
He stopped by Simon’s office on his way out.
“I’m heading out for a quick lunch, won’t be back in time for that meeting with Laswell after all so you’ll need to take notes.” He waited for Simon’s nod before knocking once on the doorframe in thanks and leaving.
Sure he could’ve just sent you a quick text to correct you, or rang you back to explain it was just a recommendation and he didn’t have the time to join you.
But he didn’t want to. He wanted to go eat Greek food with you until you were humming happily and rubbing your soft stomach, comfortably full on more than a lukewarm pasty and sad looking iced donut. He wanted to hear about your day at work so far and what you’d been up to with your friends on Saturday evening when your replies had slowed down.
He wanted.
It had been a long time since John had felt that way. Given most of the people he’d consider friends were people he worked with and kept their personal lives close to their chests, it wasn’t often he wanted to do much more than spend a couple hours in a pub after a rough mission with them.
You were quickly solidifying yourself a space in John’s life as a friend, whether you knew it or not. Whether you liked it or not. And as a result, he didn’t want to leave you to eat on your own knowing you to be a social butterfly, even after such a short time. John was known to be protective - some had said possessive - of those he considered his. And being his friend meant that you would given the same effort of care and consideration that he gave his team, it just needed to be applied differently.
It wouldn’t be through proud shoulder pats after a mission well-done or through unshakeable confidence and trust when he put his life on the line stood side-by-side with the 141.
No, it would be pulling up to hole in the wall restaurants last minute so that you could spend your lunch a little happier than you were when you were sat at your desk.
He found you sat at the back table, the seat facing the front windows and door left free for him to take with silent appreciation.
The food was as good as Gaz and Soap had promised it would be and the sight of you scarfing down baklava before you had to head back to work had him grinning into his glass.
“Christ, I might have to get a to-go box of this for tonight,” you groaned lowly.
“Big plans?” John asked, clearing his throat.
“Just some DIY I’ve been putting off around the house, figure if I entice myself with a treat for after it’s done I’ll be more likely to actually do it.” You go to take your last bite before pausing and pointing at John. “And before you say it, I realise it sounds like how you train a puppy.”
John snorted, but a frown pulled low on his brow. “What needs fixing?”
“My front door is scraping low when I open it, hinges are loose I think. Nothing major but I’d rather not fuck it up, you know? But if I leave it any longer then I’ll need to pay someone to deal with some real damage,” you sighed. “So I’ve borrowed my neighbour’s drill.”
“I’ll do it for ya,” John offered out of nowhere.
“What? No, you don’t have to, you’re busy,” you declined.
“It’s fine, I’ll pop by later tonight. Just let me know when you’re home and I’ll swing by and sort it.”
“I, uh, ok. Sure, thanks, John. I appreciate it,” you said with a grateful, if not bemused, smile.
---
As soon as you opened the door that evening, John noticed how the bottom caught.
“Hi, do you want a drink? A tea?” You offered as you let him in.
“I’d love one, thanks, Sunshine.” He stepped inside and placed his drill case by the doorframe.
“Oh, you brought your own drill? You didn’t have to go home for it, did you?” You fretted as you headed towards the kitchen. “Did I not mention I’d borrowed my neighbour’s?”
“You did. But this was in the back of the truck from Simon borrowing it, it’s not a big deal,” John lied. He’d stopped off to grab it after your lunch together. “Wasn’t sure what your neighbour’s drill was going to be like, but I know this’ll get the job done proper.”
You bit back an amused smile and hummed your assent down the hall as you waited for the electric kettle to boil.
“Thanks again for helping out, John. I can get by doing my own DIY usually; not to brag but I’m kind of a pro at assembling IKEA furniture. Sometimes though it helps having a second person look it over too.” You walked back to the front door as you spoke and held his tea for him as he set up the drill to match the screws in the door.
“It’s no hassle,” he said before setting to work.
A quick three minutes later your door was once again in full working order, no longer sticking when it swung open and closed.
“Good as new,” he said. You passed him his drink, still hot, and grinned, leading him to sit on the couch for a moment. “If y’need anything else fixing up or looking at, just let me know. I’d be happy to help.”
“Opened the floodgates with that offer. You’ll be regretting it soon enough,” you said with a laugh. “This place is a bit of a fixer-upper, ‘s why I could afford it in the first place.”
“You’ve done a good job with it,” he said earnestly, looking around the cosy living room. Would be better if you weren’t alone, he thought suddenly, unbidden. He took a deep sip of his drink and avoided eye contact. “I like being useful, you might as well take advantage of it since no one else is at the moment.”
You smiled softly. “That’s all the permission I need.”
His phone vibrated in his pocket and he slipped it out to see a text from his mum.
>> Make sure your date isn’t wearing white, luv. I’m sure she’s a lovely girl, but we wouldn’t want to spoil Charlotte’s day would we? xxx
<< Her dress is green, nothing to worry about mum. xx
>> Green is a bold choice, must be quite the lady to pull that off! Give her my love. xxx
John sighed as he put his phone down and caught your eye in his peripheral.
He smiled tiredly to ease your worried frown.
“Just my mum checking in, she gives you her love,” he said.
“Mm. She gives you a headache,” you pointed out. “Wedding shit still?”
“It’s her prime focus right now. It’ll be done soon.”
“You want a paracetamol? I’ll top up your tea.” You reached forward for his empty cup.
“Got something stronger?” John asked hopefully.
You winced. “I’ve got a gin ‘n’ tonic in a can that my friend left the other day? Can’t even offer you a strong coffee because it’s decaf.”
“Jesus,” he groaned through a laugh. “Another tea it is.”
---
The morning of the wedding came sooner than you’d expected. The dress that you’d carefully hung on your wardrobe door to avoid creases all those weeks ago would finally be put to use.
You got up early enough to get yourself ready, nervousness unsettling your stomach enough that you stuck to only a slice of toast for breakfast with a strong coffee.
>> Setting off now, I’ll be at yours in 20.
<< you mean you’ll be here by 0900 🫡
>> Funny.
>> See you soon.
You chuckled to yourself as you grabbed your things so you were ready to go when John arrived and double checked everything was locked up for the weekend.
The knock on your door had your heart jump and pound double-time in your chest before you shook your hands out and told yourself to fucking chill. It was just John.
“Hi, you ready to— oh, you look, uhm…” John trailed off as he took in the flowing silk dress you’d bought. He’d seen it before, of course, but now seeing you in it and the way it clung to your curves and highlighted your plush tummy and wide hips had his tongue heavy and lost in his mouth. He swallowed thickly as he looked back up to your face, trying not to linger on the plunged neckline and what it did for your tits, and felt his cheeks redden when he noticed your own flustered, wide-eyed look as you stood and watched him. “You look very nice,” he finished lamely.
“Right, good, thanks.” You tried to force a laugh but your throat felt too dry, even as you grinned at his red cheeks. “You clean up pretty well too,” you said instead and reached your hand out to brush against the neatened trim of his beard, his muttonchops less pronounced.
He stiffened at the unexpected touch, not disliking it, but a memory of Charlotte doing something similar had him flinching back. Charlotte, he remembered, would usually only rub at his beard with a frown and ask when he was going to go clean shaven again.
You didn’t know that however and you snatched your hand back to your side as you felt a chill drop from your chest down to your toes like a bucket of cold water. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have done that,” you apologised.
“No, it’s fine. Just caught me off guard,” he said, trying to ease your suddenly tense shoulders and cursing himself for getting lost in old memories.
He led you to the car and held open the door for you, smiling when you thanked him and tucked in your dress to avoid its long length getting trapped in the door.
Once he was sat in the drivers seat he hesitated for a moment before turning to face you.
“‘M glad you like it,” he said with a quick gesture to his beard. “I was thinking about shaving it off for the occasion.”
You winced reflexively at the thought, teeth gritted and bared as you tried to picture him without facial hair. He let out a deep rumble of a laugh, throaty and unfiltered, as you tried to square your face back to a neutral expression, though your eyebrows wouldn’t pull back from their frown.
“I’m sure that would’ve looked… sweet,” you hedged carefully.
John only snorted.
You huffed and rolled your eyes. “Ok I’m a terrible liar,” you started, glaring when John muttered an amused, you don’t say. “If you want to shave and like how it looks, then we can detour back to yours and I’m sure you’ll look just as handsome in whatever photos you’re forced to pose for. But if you’re asking for my opinion? Then I think this suits you better, it’s more distinguished. You’d have looked too much like a banker if you’d shaved and wore a suit,” you said with an exaggerated shiver.
John hummed a chuckle, his shoulders shaking with it. “I’m sure the word you’re thinking of rhymes with banker, Sunshine.”
It was your turn to snort a laugh at that.
“Your words, not mine, John.”
“Cheeky. Put your bloody seatbelt on,” he huffed, a smile pulling at his lips as he started the car. “Suddenly thinking this drive might feel ten times longer than usual for some reason.”
You rolled your eyes and didn’t dignify his jab with a response. Tried not to focus on your pulse racing in excitement.

I really love your transformers series about a human being on cybertron. Kinda wondering if they ever met a human, so this little organic is just a very, very, VERY, smart rat. Anyway, I was wondering if you could make a part 4? It's ok if not.
Was hoping if you could do Alpha Trion, Shockwave, and Soundwave? Maybe even maegatronus Prime for D-13?
Don't do this request if you are busy, don't want to, or sick. I can wait a few months and years.
Have a good day/evening!!!!!!!
thank you so much.
sadly this is a human we are talking about as Transformers One yet to learn that humans are actually sentient and to learn English, and so is human. their language sounds like a clicks, whirls and other metallic noises. So it's more like figuring out by their body language and repetitive noises they make. like a certain noise thay make at you means its your name. they can see you are smart and if you were to be given buttons with certain sounds like in one video you would be able to communicate. so yes they know you are smart, just not realizing that you are THIS smart to be actually considered a sentient.
What if human ended up in transformers one
part 4
Alpha Trion
Alpha Triton, being one of 13 primes, was one of a few son's of Cybertron that realised you were more then just some organic. HE found you during one of Quintessons attacks, with your space ship being an unfortunate target to their fire. out of all your crew you were the last.
he decided it will be best for your own good to keep you by him self and try to establish some kind of contact and maybe even learn where you are from and what planet is your home. so safe to say it was not an easy task and with you being small week and made out of flesh - you quickly become something every Prime grew soft on. you were pampered with pets, soft coos and nice flesh food they could find on surface. he kept you close by, and did his best to keep away from Sentinel as he could see something dark in his eyes and fake smiles. other Primes seemed to trust the kid for some reason and Triton just decided to keep you close to him self. you did protest at first, being manhandled and treated like a some kind of pet. but soon you got used to it and even felt comfort in hand of a huge cat. You also distrusted Sentinel and just tried to avoid him. you enjoyed your life as much as you could until Sentinel lead all primes in to trap. Triton did his best to keep you out of harms way and fight, but he can only do so much. in the end he had to watch you fall and killed by Sentinel, before he was hurt. what he did not expect as to still be alive after all those years and when Pax woke him up, he saw what was left of you - just a pile of bones, near his body, you probably crawled towards him on his last breath and passed away by him. he wished he couldv'e done more, but now he need to do is give this new generation a fighting chance. though when he is captured and was decapitated, he was a bit relieved to see that Prime deemed you worthy enough to joing their after life.
Shockwave
Shockwave probably would see you as something more interesting that anything on cybertron. And before he would become the mad scientist we know of him now, before Megatron, he would 100 percent would run more safe, though still hurtful, experiments. And mostly because of lack of equipment. He would find you as your ship crashed not far from the hideout, and you only one who survived. He observed you from a far at first, trying to understand just what you are. Some strange organic life matter, super fragile and somehow very-very resilient. He observed from afar, keeping tabs and even running his own little experiment - he would find some edible fruits and place them near cave you were hiding in. He watched as you at first was warry, not knowing if you could eat it, but after time you sort of relaxed around food suddenly appearing on your "door". Then Shockwave moved on to next step. Instead of hiding he kept the distance so that you could see him. Of course first time you hid in your cave that was to small for his servo, but with prolong exposure he was even able to get closer and closer. Even one time you came close to him, watching him with curiosity in return. HE reached out with his only servo poking at your head and you touched his finger. After some time he was sure you won't mind if he brings you with him to show to Soundwave. HE was very proud of his little study! So he decided to "study" you more. You were poked, probed and measured in all sort of ways, without your consent and you protested every test he had done. by the end of all the experiments he would keep you on his shoulder, proudly showing you off to other High guards and proud with his experiments. you just wish to go back to your cave and wait for rescue ship to arrive to pick you up. What you had no idea is that Shockwave knew about the signal and already took care of it, stomping it to the ground and making sure that the signal would come of as false. so you are stuck for his intertaiment.
Soundwave
Soundwave would probably find out about you through Shockwave when he was tagged along to observe you. Soundwave was bored at first, but after some time he would come to your hide out without Shockwave, just observing you. You tinkered with some machine, clearly trying to get of this planet by sending some signal. he did not wanted this to happen as YOU were the only intertaiment here for now and kept Shockwave from dying from boredom. you did not even had a chance to properly scream when you were kidnaped by the bot and brought to High Guards and you sort of become a mascot for them. Every other bot found you entertaining, a bright light of hope to lift the gloom. Shockwave was a bit happy as well as he could run his experiments more closer. Soundwave how ever kept you close, not letting you out of his sigh because of what you were. you did not had anything to protect your fragile flesh body and easily got hurt by ether "walking" in to think, stumbling, tripping and falling on a flat surface. YOU are NOT allowed any where outside the fortress at all. Sleep? you thought you will be able to have a moment of solidarity at such moment? Forget it - your recharging place is in his chest so that Soundwave won't have to worry about you sneaking of while he rests. And Soundwave wiling to go to such lengths as to wrap a chain around your body and keep you close, as scaning your head is a bit more troublesome as the reading always come "wrong" and it's just easier to keep you closer then to know what you wanted to do. Food? you can scavenge for it only when HE brought you out and you better to gather enough to last you for weeks. so yeah. have fun with overbearing bot.

ROUND 4 RAAAHHH
silver w prompts 14 and 20 (the party and fake dating one)
You requested: Christmas Party + Fake Dating
YOU SIMP
Silver
“SILVER!” You shouted, relieved that you had found your friend. He was sleeping right now, but you needed him to wake up. You were being tailed by a relentless pursuer from Savanaclaw, who didn’t know how to take ‘no’ for an answer, and you were sick and tired of him.
He originally had walked up to you in the hallway, after being hyped up by his fellow Savanaclaw bros, and asked you to the Christmas Ball. You turned him down, and it was like he had never been denied anything.
“Y/N?” His voice was slightly raspy from no use, and he was taken by surprise at how fast you were running towards him.
“Heysomeoneisfollowingmecanyouhelp?” You said in a rush, out of breath as you plopped down beside him.
“Sure?” At that moment, the student who was chasing you had a look of anger. That dissipated from his face when he saw Silver, and recognized him as a knight of Prince Malleus. The look of anger turned into a look of fear.
“Oh, I did not know you were taken by Silver… I apologize.”
“It’s alright! As you said, you didn’t know!” You sweat, and your face is a bit warm from what he said. You then felt an arm drape around your shoulders, and you turned to see Silver giving a rather pissed off look.
“You may take your leave now,” He said, voice a bit cold. You were surprised, but happy to see the student leave.
“Thank you so much, Silver… That guy would not leave me alone.”
“I doubt that this will be the end of it, but I do have a solution. You are able to say no.”
“What did you have in mind?”
“Would you like to go with me to the Christmas Ball? One needs a partner to go, and I would be able to watch over the Prince. You get an escape from being with that guy.”
“Deal.” You both shook hands, as though conducting business, before laughing at the ridiculousness of this entire situation.
~~~~~~~~
The day of the Christmas Ball, you were making sure that the outfit you chose for the night was okay. It was a rather formal event, as a lot of other schools were going to be attending as well. You had to RSVP ahead of time with the name of your partner, and you got your tickets last night.
Grim was going to stay home, stating that there was no need for him to go, and you were probably going to be all over your crush anyway. When he said that, you felt your face growing warm once again as you threw the nearest thing (a pillow) at the cat.
Anyway, you made your way to the Main Street, and you found that a few students were lingering around your dormitory. You did turn down a few requests, but they were not too happy about it. Sure, you felt bad, but they didn’t have to be annoying about it.
You were looking around, but you couldn’t find Silver anywhere. The thing is, you were not allowed entrance until your partner was there. You texted him, and you did not receive a reply, so you just sat down on a bench to wait. You were lucky that you brought a jacket, as it was incredibly cold.
~~~~~~~~
At Diasomnia, a 700-year-old bat fae was helping his son tie his tie. The young man was nervous about the Christmas Ball, afraid that he may screw up with his crush.
“You won’t mess up!” He was assured, but he was not all that convinced.
He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, figuring it was you, and he grabbed his jacket coat on the way out of the door. Malleus was also on his way out, dressed in a suit as well. He and Lilia were technically partners, but Sebek wanted to stay behind because he had work he needed to do. It was surprising, actually, because usually he would be adamant about being where Malleus was.
The group of three made their way to the cafeteria, and that’s when the 17-year-old knight checked his phone. You told him to meet him on the main street by Ramshackle, and that you were sitting on a bench.
~~~~~~~~
You were beginning to think that your knight was never going to come, and you were about to go back to Ramshackle before you felt an arm hold you back. You were about to slap it away until you noticed that it was Silver.
“Sorry I’m late,” He said.
“It’s alright. Now we can go inside!” You said with a smile. He extended his arm out to you, and you placed your hand in the crook of his elbow as he led you to the door.
Inside, it was warm and there was a DJ. A Christmas tree was elaborately decorated in the corner of the room, and there was an entire banquet table. You recognized a few students from both RSA and Noble Bell, and you said hello to a few of them.
“All partners, make your way to the dance floor. The waltz will begin soon!” The DJ announced over the microphone. Silver turned to you, a smile on his face.
“Would you like to dance with me?” He asked. You found yourself nodding, joining your left hand with his right, placing your right hand on his shoulder. He placed his left hand on your waist, leading you in the first step.
As you both danced the night away, you couldn’t help but notice a certain emotion in his eyes. You felt it too. It was love.
After a few hours, you got a bit hungry, and decided to get a drink and some food. Your knight in shining armor accompanied you, and you decided to strike up a conversation.
“So… what happened to watching over Malleus?” You said, a smirk on your face.
He froze up, before relaxing a bit. “It is against a knight’s code to lie, so I will be honest. Prince Malleus is only half the reason why I’m here. I wanted to go with you because I want to court you. I thought this would be the perfect night to ask you.”
Now it was his turn to smirk and yours to freeze. You dropped the fork you were using to put the food on your plate.
“W-What?”
“I would like to begin courting you. You have never judged me for my condition, and you have even looked out for Sebek, someone who I view as a sibling.”
You both went to a table to further talk about it, and he carried your plate for you because your hands were shaking. He even pulled out your seat for you, making you further flustered.
“If you want to reject me or turn me down, I completely understand. I won’t be angry, and we can pretend like this never happened,” He said with a reassuring smile. However, you quickly reached your hands to hold his, surprising him.
“I don’t want to pretend this never happened… Because this is something I have been wishing for,” You started, voice a little shaky. “I would love to enter a courtship with you.”
“CONGRATULATIONS YOU TWO!!!” Lilia shouted as he walked over to your table. The sudden outburst was definitely something that spooked you, but you should have expected something like this.
“Lilia, I’m pretty sure they want to be alone with one another at the moment. I apologize for him, Silver and Child of Man,” Malleus said, walking up and ordering the former General to go away.
If Lilia was going to be your future father-in-law, you should start getting used to it.
“Are you going to keep secretly writing notes about me or ask me that question you’ve been too afraid to ask?” Y/N questions, her eyes never leaving the computer where she is tying in the new patient information. She is currently six hours into her ten-hour shift.
The boy sitting on the exam table freezes. His thumbs stop typing in his notes app as he looks at Y/N in surprise. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Y/N rolls her eyes, “Mhm, sure. This is the fifth time you’ve been in this week, but you always seem to leave with nothing wrong. You either have hypochondria or you’ve kept coming back until I was your nurse.”
“Maybe the previous nurses and doctors didn’t do a good job and sent me home without properly helping me.” He picks at the bottom of his shirt in a nervous habit.
“The first time you came in was for pink eye, which has been noted that you didn’t have that. The second time was for a rash on your arm that you didn’t have.” Y/N says, looking over his previous visit notes, “The third time was a bump on your knee that turned out to be your kneecap. The fourth time was for a broken wrist that turned out to be broken or even sprained. Now you’re here due to flu-like symptoms, but your vitals are all good and there is currently no indication of you being sick.”
He forces out a fake cough, “Are you sure about that?”
Y/N turns to look at him, “I’m sure. You do know this is an emergency room, right? We have actual patients that need help, and we are short staffed. We don’t need some kid coming in trying to meet the Stark girl to get a good photo for his Instagram or whatever.”
“First of all, I’m not a kid—we’re the same age. Second, this isn’t for my Instagram, this is for my criminology class.” He says, dropping his act. He knew there was no point in tripling down on his lies.
“Well, your parents must have a lot of money or some really good insurance for you to be able to show up here five different times.”
“Something like that.”
Y/N looks him up and down, contemplating what she should do. She should just send him home, but she’s worried he will keep showing up until he gets what he wants. “The school year just started, why do you need to speak with me for your criminology class now?”
“Our first assignment is to do a paper on a famous crime. What’s more famous than the kidnapping of Tony Stark’s daughter?”
“I can think of several.” Y/N lets out a sigh, turning her body to fully face him, “You get five questions. If I don’t want to answer one, then it’s still going to count as one of your questions. After that, you have to leave and also promise not to come back here unless you have an actual emergency.”
He smiles in victory, turning his phone back on, “Do you mind if I record this so I can type out your answers later?”
“Sure.”
He opens the Voice Memos app on his phone, hits the record button, and holds it up between Y/N and himself. “Okay, first question, I am aware that the Avengers are currently relocating to a little outside of Beacon Hills, but have you been back to the other Avengers compound or the place you lived while with them?”
“No, I have not been back.”
He opens his mouth to ask her to elaborate but decides against it in case she counts that as a question. “Second question, what was your initial reaction when you discovered the truth?”
Y/N pauses as she thinks of an answer. For safety reasons, when they announced who she was, they changed the story of how it happened. Instead of telling the public she was re-kidnapped by Hydra, they told them about Bucky discovering the photo of her in Derek’s auto shop. It’s part of the reason some people like to show up there.
To the public’s knowledge, Hydra kidnapped her in hopes of raising her to be their soldier before she was able to escape on her own when they left her unattended outside. She was then found by a friend of Talia Stilinski and adopted by the Stilinski’s. To the public’s knowledge, Pepper didn’t hand her over to Hydra, she was never experimented on, she has no powers, and she didn’t know about the Avengers because she was too young—not because her memories were blocked.
“Mostly confusion. It’s not every day that someone shows up and claims to be your other family. Now I’m just waiting for my biological family to do the same thing.” Y/N jokes.
“Third question, I know thanks to photos online that you spend some time with your brother, Peter, but have you spent any time with your sister, Morgan?”
Y/N debates on whether she wants to answer the question or not. The answer is no, she hasn’t spent any time with her sister, nor has she met her. She has nothing against Morgan, and she doesn’t blame her for Pepper’s actions, but she’s not sure if Morgan feels the same way. According to Peter, she is close with her mother, and her relationship with Tony is strained due to his shortcomings as a father to her.
Y/N is unsure if Morgan blames her for those shortcomings. It’s because of Tony’s obsession with finding her that caused him to neglect to be a good father for Morgan. It’s because of his resentment and anger toward Pepper’s nonchalance at Y/N being gone and her happiness toward the new baby that caused him to leave Pepper in the first place. It’s because of his grief of losing her that caused him to be unable to hold her until she was three years old.
It wasn’t until Morgan became a teenager did Tony start to step up as her father. He still isn’t perfect, and he can never make up for her younger years, but he is a lot better. Y/N adds Tony and Peter moving to Beacon Hills as another reason for Morgan to be justified to hate her.
Y/N knows that if Derek or Peter knew her thoughts about Morgan, they would tell her that she can’t blame herself for Tony’s mistakes. The choices Tony made were his own, not hers. Right now, she’s told Peter and Tony that the decision to meet, form a relationship, or anything is fully up to Morgan. She doesn’t want to cause any upheaval in Morgan’s life by inserting herself into it. If Morgan wants Y/N in her life, then she will be. If she doesn’t want anything to do with her, that’s okay. If she wants to meet her once and then never again, Y/N will do that too.
She does however know—thanks to Peter—that Morgan has decided that she prefers a private life away from the spotlight. While Peter attends all charity and public events in the Stark name, Morgan likes to stay home away from the crowds and paparazzi. She even keeps away from social media, so she doesn’t see anything about herself or her family.
“Um, I’m going to pass on that question. Morgan is a minor and prefers to stay out of the press. I don’t feel comfortable talking about whatever relationship I may or may not have with her. That’s private and it will stay that way.” Y/N answers. “You have two questions left.”
The guy huffs in frustration, “Fine. Fourth question, what are your thoughts on the theories and videos people were making after it was first brought to the public’s attention that you’re Y/N Stark?”
“I think the best word to describe I how felt, and still feel, about the things people were saying is disappointment. I’m disappointed in how people were, and still are, talking about my family. Honestly, I don’t really care what people say about me,” That’s a lie but she isn’t going to correct herself, “but I am disappointed in the way people talked about my family and the people I love.”
He nods his head in understanding, “Okay, last question, do you plan on changing your name back to Stark?”
No, she doesn’t. To be honest, it’s not even a thought that has crossed her mind. Scott asked her about it once when he saw her driver’s license and her only thought was that she hopes Derek proposes before Tony asks so she has an excuse that won’t hurt his feelings.
“Maybe, I guess we’ll see,” Y/N says instead. “Now, you can be on your way, and I’ll make sure to let the front desk know I refuse to see you if you come back with anything less than a life-threatening injury. Hopefully, that will keep you away and make you reconsider faking injuries and illnesses, and taking a room away from someone who actually needs it.”
He hits the stop button before turning off his phone and thanking her for answering his questions. He follows her out of the room and rushes out of the building to start working on his paper.
“What’s that about?” Melissa asks, watching the boy run out of the hospital.
Y/N rolls her eyes and sighs, “Just another person who wanted to interview me. I humored him for a few questions before I told him to not come back unless he’s dying.” She hands Melissa the boy’s file that’s in her hand. “Can you put a note in his file to let the others know I won’t see him if he comes back unless necessary?”
“That’s like the fourth one this month,” Melissa laughs in disbelief.
“What can I say, I’m famous,” Y/N winks at her. She and Melissa both know how much she hates the amount of attention she’s gotten since Kate exposed her. At one point in her life, she dreamed of being a star that everyone loved and was extremely famous. Now she wishes she could go back to being a nobody.
“When do you get off today?”
“I have about four hours left and then I’m out of here. I’ve got to go home a prepare myself for family dinner.” Y/N says, grabbing a new patient’s clipboard.
“I heard Stiles telling Scott about that. Is this the first dinner with all of you together?”
“Yep, and I’m already regretting it.”
Melissa lets out a laugh, “I’m sure it will be fine, and if it isn’t, you can tell me all about it tomorrow.”
“I actually have the next two days off, so it will be a few days until I can give you a play-by-play.” With her working so many shifts to make up for her unintended long absence, she decided she needed two days to take a break. She’s exhausted and just wants to sleep in for a day.
“I can’t wait.”
---
“Hey! Where’s Stiles?” Y/N asks as she greets her dad. He’s the first one to arrive for dinner and she expected Stiles to be with him.
“He said that he could drive himself here, so I drove here straight after work.” The sheriff replies, pulling Y/N into a big hug.
“Okay, well, the others should be here soon if you want to go ahead and sit at the table, or I can turn the TV on, and you can sit in the living room and wait.”
“Where’s Derek?” He questions.
“In here!” Derek calls out from the kitchen.
The sheriff follows Y/N into the kitchen to see Derek checking on the rolls in the oven. “How are you, Derek?”
“I’m good, sir. How are you?” Derek asks, shaking Noah’s hand in greeting.
“Well, I’m still here so I guess I’m good.”
“Dad, why don’t you sit down, and I’ll help Derek finish up,” Y/N says, gesturing her hand toward their dining table. She moves to help Derek when there’s a knock on the front door. “Never mind.”
Walking toward the front door, she can hear two heartbeats on the other side. Opening the door, Tony and Peter are now standing in front of her, “Hey. Thanks for coming.” She hugs them both as they enter the loft.
They had a few conversations after taking down Kate and the hunters, but they are still a little awkward around each other. Y/N and Peter not so much, but she isn’t sure how to navigate a relationship with Tony. She doesn’t want to come off as she doesn’t care about him, but she also needs time to get used to having another dad.
With Peter it’s different. They’re close in age and they have the shared trauma from Hydra. She also feels like she talking to Stiles most of the time.
Y/N shuts the door behind them, she leads them into the kitchen. She pulls out her phone to text Stiles as they greet Derek and Noah. Tony and Peter sit down at the table, and she helps Derek bring the food over.
She looks down at her phone when it vibrates in her hand, “Stiles says he’s a bit caught up and that we should start without him. He’ll be a bit late.”
“What’s he caught up with?” Derek asks, sitting at the head of the table next to Noah and Y/N.
“He didn’t say.” She hopes it’s just something to do with school and not supernatural-related.
“So, Derek, when are you going to start working on your old house?” Peter asks Derek. Y/N has told him a bit about Derek’s plans, but she hasn’t told him everything.
“Um, soon. I’m waiting until after I hire someone to help out at the shop.” Derek replies. A few people have applied to the open position, but two of them ended up being Avengers fans who faked their resumes.
“You know who would probably be interested in the position, Barnes,” Tony says. “He would know what to do and he’s been looking for a job.”
Bucky hasn’t applied to any yet, but he has a few saved. He’d been thinking about taking a step back from the Avengers for a bit. After seeing the files and the videos of what happened to Y/N, they seemed to trigger some bad memories that he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about. He’s also had several nightmares about what they could’ve possibly done to Y/N if she wasn’t rescued when she was.
Derek shares a small look with Y/N as if to ask for help with what he should say, “Yeah, I could send him the listing to see if he’s interested, or it’s on our website too. At least, that’s what Lydia told me.”
Y/N shrugs her shoulders a little when Derek looks back at her. She’s not going to tell Derek whether he should hire him or not, or even give Bucky a chance. It’s Derek’s business so that decision is completely up to him.
Tony opens his mouth to say something else, but Y/N decides to interrupt him. She’s sure Tony is about to say something that he thinks will be helpful for Derek, and she knows Derek probably doesn’t care to hear it. Derek likes doing things his way and he doesn’t always love people injecting their opinions. “So, Dad, is there anything you’d like to tell me?”
Y/N ignores the longing look in Tony’s eyes as she speaks to the other man who raised her.
“Uh, not to my knowledge, no.” Sheriff Stilinski doesn’t know what she’s talking about. The tone in her voice says he should, but he can’t think of anything.
“Really?” Y/N looks down at his left ring finger where his wedding ring used to be.
“Right, I may or may not have a date tomorrow night.”
“Good for you,” Derek says proudly, patting him on the back. They haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, but he and the sheriff have grown closer after he started dating Y/N. It was rough at first, but they started to get along after the sheriff saw how well Derek took care of Y/N after she was attacked one night by a hunter. They bonded that night as Y/N rested. It’s why Derek knows that the sheriff going on a date is a big deal for him.
“Who’s it with?” Y/N asks with a teasing smile.
“It’s with someone you know,” Noah says, keeping it vague.
“Well, it’s not with Melissa because she would’ve told me. But you also didn’t tell me until now. Oh my god, you’re date’s with Melissa.”
“No, it’s not.”
“Deaton?”
“It’s with a woman.”
“Well, who else do I know that’s at an appropriate age for you to date?” Y/N mutters mostly to herself.
Tony and Peter silently eat their food and watch the conversation with amused smiles on their faces. They like seeing Y/N with a smile on her face. It’s a lot better than what she looked like when dealing with Hydra, the hunters, and Derek getting shot with an arrow.
“It’s Lydia’s mom,” Derek states.
Noah looks at him a little shocked. He didn’t expect Derek to guess correctly or even chime in. “How’d you know?”
“I didn’t, but I do now.” Derek sends a triumph wink toward Y/N. She’s a little surprised he’s showing this side of himself with Tony and Peter here. With strangers, and sometimes the pack, he prefers to only let them see him as the tall, broody guy who doesn’t have many feelings.
“Just don’t tell Stiles. I haven’t told him I’m going on a date yet either.” He looks pointedly toward Y/N.
“Fine. My lips are sealed.” Y/N pretends to zip her lips for added effect. “What about you Peter? How’s MJ?”
The last time Peter had talked to her about MJ he wasn’t sure about the direction of their relationship. He loves her, but she’s still in college going for her master’s and he’s moving to Beacon Hills to be closer to his sister. They hadn’t decided if they wanted to try long-distance, have Peter go back and forth, or if they should call it quits for now.
Y/N told him that she shouldn’t be the reason his relationship with MJ should change. He just replies that he thought she was dead for several years and has missed out on being in her life, so he doesn’t plan on missing anymore.
“She’s good. We still haven’t decided what we’re going to do yet.” Peter replies, keeping his eyes down on the food on his plate to avoid looking at her.
“How has it been at the hospital? Are people still showing up and harassing you?” Tony asks, turning the attention away from Peter because he can feel he doesn’t want to talk about MJ.
“Yeah, we had a guy come in today asking me questions. It’s the fifth time he’s been in this week.” Y/N rolls her eyes in annoyance.
Tony frowns at her answer. He offered her a job to work with the Avengers in their medical wing to avoid the crazy press and fans and to spend more time with her, but she declined. She likes her job, and she likes that she can help her brother and friends by having her job.
“He’s been in five times?” Derek questions, his tone on the protective side.
“Yeah, he’s some college guy who wanted to interview me for some school project.”
“College guy?” “Didn’t the school year just start?” Derek and Peter question at the same time.
“He said it was for a paper for his criminology class. I let him ask me a few questions and then told the front desk not to let him back unless he’s dying.”
“What questions did he ask you?” Peter asks.
“Like ‘how did I react when I found out’ and ‘how did I feel about the videos people were making about me.’ I gave him five questions and only answered the ones I wanted to.” Y/N shrugs like it’s no big deal. “I only did it so that he’d stop wasting the staff’s time with his fake injuries and illnesses.”
“Has Stiles told you if he’s on his way?” Noah asks, changing the subject.
Y/N checks her phone and sees that Stiles hasn’t texted her, “Nope, but you know how he gets. He probably lost track of time, or he’s still caught up in whatever he’s doing.”
The table goes quiet, and everyone continues eating. No one knows what to say. This isn’t the first dinner they’ve had together, but they all typically end in silence. They do some polite small talk in the beginning—mostly everyone only speaking to Y/N—then finish their food in silence.
Derek takes his and Y/N’s empty plates to the sink when they're done. Y/N packs up some of the leftovers for her dad to take home.
“I should go. I’ve got a long shift in the morning.” Noah says. He pats Derek on the shoulder as a goodbye. He takes the leftovers from Y/N’s hands and follows her to the front door. “I’m assuming you’re going to show up to the station before my date tomorrow.”
“You know me so well.” Y/N smiles, hugging him goodbye. “See you tomorrow. Love you.”
“Love you too.” He closes the door behind himself as he leaves. Y/N turns to Tony and Peter who are ready to leave as well.
“Thanks for having us over. Dinner was good.” Tony says, putting his jacket back on that he took off while eating.
“Thanks for coming,” Y/N says, hugging them both goodbye. “My schedule is starting to slow down so I’ll let you know when I’m free for us to do something.” She notices Tony perk up at the thought of spending more time with her.
She waves at them goodbye before closing and locking the loft door. Sighing in exhaustion, she turns to see Derek standing and staring at her with a familiar lovestruck look in his eyes.
“I feel like I could sleep for a week,” Y/N says, slowly walking over to him.
Derek wraps his arms around her when she reaches him, “Well, I’ve done the dishes, so how about we go upstairs, take a nice hot bath, and then get you to bed?”
“Keep saying things like that and I’ll get on one knee right now and ask you to marry me.”
“I prefer when you get on both knees.”
Y/N scoffs at his joke, “Just take me upstairs to a bath. If you treat me right, maybe the bath could turn into something more.”
“I’m holding you to that,” Derek says. Y/N lets out a laugh when Derek wraps his arms around her thighs and picks her up, carrying her upstairs.
---
Y/N slowly opens her eyes to see Derek asleep next to her. She smiles a little at how cute he looks when he’s asleep. Turning to the clock on her bedside table, she notices that it’s almost midnight. She’s only been asleep for a little over an hour and she’s not sure what woke her up. As she turns back to Derek, their bedroom door flies open.
“Y/N?” Stiles calls out from the doorway.
“What the fuck Stiles?” Y/N groans, clamping her eyes shut when he flicks on the bedroom light. She can feel Derek waking up next to her. “Why the fuck are you here so late?”
Stiles walks into the room and sits on the bed next to Y/N, “I feel like I’m going crazy and you’re the only one that believes me.” Y/N can smell that he reeks of anxiety.
“Go home,” Derek groans, wraps an arm around Y/N’s waist, and pulls her in closer to him, pushing his face into the back of her neck to try and hide from the light.
Y/N sighs, using her hands to block the ceiling light, “You can tell me what’s going on after you turn off the light.”
Stiles huffs in frustration but gets up and turns off the light before sitting back on the bed, “There’s something off about Theo but no one believes me. Scott thinks I should give him the benefit of the doubt and that, even if he is bad, everyone is savable.”
“Does some of this have to do with why you didn’t show up to dinner?”
“Sorry about that. Me and Liam followed him around to see what he’d do.”
“And what did he do?”
“We may have followed him to the bridge near where his sister was found.” Stiles mumbles, fiddling with the drawstrings on his hoodie.
“He could’ve noticed you following him and put on a ‘good guy’ act,” Y/N says, trying to think of something that would support Stiles’ theory.
“Don’t encourage him,” Derek mumbles sleepily behind her.
“I broke into the administration office and found the transfer form his dad signed and compared it to a speeding ticket he signed eight years ago. The signatures are completely different.” Stiles says. He knows he’s right about Theo and he doesn’t get why Scott doesn’t believe him.
“Okay, I believe you. Look, I’m exhausted so how about we get some sleep and talk about this some more later? You’ve got school tomorrow, so you need some sleep too.” Y/N says as gently as she can. She doesn’t want him to feel like she doesn’t believe him either, but she might fall back asleep any minute now. “You know you are welcome to the guest room. It’s practically yours now anyway.”
“Can I sleep in here tonight?” Stiles asks shyly.
“No,” Derek answers quickly.
“Not like in your bed, but like can I drag the guest room’s mattress in here and sleep on it on the floor?”
Even in the dark, Y/N can see the vulnerability in his eyes, “Yes, you can sleep in here.” Stiles smiles and runs out of the room toward the guest room.
“You should’ve said no,” Derek groans.
“He’s worried about his friends and senior year has been giving him a lot of anxiety after asking Dad about his high school buddies.”
“How has that given him so much anxiety that he stinks of it?”
“Dad told him that he no longer speaks to any of his friends from high school and he’s scared him and his friends will end up the same way.”
Derek sighs, “Fine, but him staying in here is a one-time thing.”
Y/N starts to reply when Stiles comes back into the room, pulling the guest bedroom mattress behind him with one hand and his pillows and blankets in the other. He puts the mattress against the wall that faces Y/N’s side of the bed.
He puts his pillows down on the mattress before laying down and wrapping his blankets around himself, “Okay, goodnight. Don’t do anything gross since I’m here.”
Y/N rolls her eyes at his last sentence, “Goodnight Stiles.”
As she starts to drift back off to sleep, she hears Stiles speak again, “Y/N?”
“What?”
“Did you notice that Dad stopped wearing his ring?”
“Yeah,” Y/N replies gently.
“Do you think he’s met someone?”
“You’d have to ask him that.” She would’ve responded with yes, but she promised her dad earlier that she wouldn’t tell Stiles because he wanted to be the one to do it.
“I just want him to be happy,” Stiles says, staring up at the ceiling.
“Me too.”
There’s a moment of silence before Stiles says, “I miss Mom.”
“Me too.”
“Okay, goodnight,” Stiles rolls over to his side to face the wall.
“Goodnight,” Y/N pushes herself back into Derek’s loose embrace. After Stiles laid out the mattress, he was out like a light. She starts to drift off again when Stiles interrupts her again.
“Hey Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks for believing me.”
“Always.”
Heaven Help the Fool
Of Oak and Ivy, Chapter 5
Series Masterlist Next Chapter
pairing: Matt Murdock x fem!reader
summary: In college, Matt Murdock had two best friends, Foggy Nelson and you. However, life had no intention of letting you graduate with him. When he reconnects with you in adulthood, he is troubled to see the hand God has dealt you and vows to use every tool at his disposal to save you from damnation.
warnings: swearing, angsty matthew, hints of matt's jealousy, cuddling? idk this one is relatively tame (especially compared to Ch 4)
a/n: This chapter is pure sugary fluff. I ended up cutting this chapter in half because it was approaching 10k. This is the 1st half :) I hope you enjoy!! Thank you to @madschiavelique for helping me rewrite this multiple times!
Side note: I will probably wait a month or so before updating this again. I'm trying to get 5-7 chapters written so that I can post biweekly for the rest of the year to keep y'all fed!
w/c: 4.2k
Despite the brief hiccup in your friendship–courtesy of one douchebag boyfriend–you, Matt, and Foggy had been getting along swimmingly recently; so well, in fact, that Foggy would only refer to you as “The Three Musketeers”, complete with embarrassingly clumsy fake sword swishing, of course. The thought of the two of you air-fencing as you giggled to each other never failed to make him smile.
By some miracle, the conversation he’d initiated with you about your growing distance had actually gone well and sparked a positive change. You’d apologized profusely, asking a number of questions, about how Matt was feeling and why, to guarantee your understanding. And, thankfully, he’d been able to answer them without exposing his feelings for you. In the end, you’d promised to return to your original schedule of study sessions, as well as give Matt and Foggy notice if you would need to cancel. Nothing outrageous, just being more mindful about communication and the time you were spending with your friends.
Unfortunately for Matt, and Foggy who was slowly stepping aboard the “Everett Sucks” train alongside his roommate, you’d also suggested that the two of them hang out with you and Everett in order to get to know him better. The idea was harmless, even adorable if you asked the love-sick part of Matt’s brain, but the outcome was hellish.
About a week ago, Matt and Foggy had accompanied you and Everett to a haunted house–listening to the macho third year “protect” you from strobe lights and masked actors despite you not being all that scared. Though he had brought a date himself, Matt had barely even smiled at the poor girl, preoccupied with Everett’s fingers brushing over a patch of exposed skin on your waist at every opportunity. Clearly, he hadn’t been inconspicuous about his attention being elsewhere, given that the night had ended with him getting a face full of hot chocolate from his snubbed date. The sticky droplets soaking into his clothes were nothing compared to the irritation he felt when Everett slapped him on the back—shaking his head as he imparted his wisdom to the first year. “Sorry man. Girls will be girls.”
Then, of course, there’d been last night. The three of you had attended a halloween party at Everett’s place, and the guy had refused to walk you home even though it was cold, dark, and dangerous considering how tipsy you'd been. If Matt and Foggy hadn't been there, who knows what harm could have befallen you? Even before that, Matt had been clenching his fists all night, hearing Everett blabber over you and swat your hands away in front of his peers, claiming he wasn’t in the mood to hold you. If Matt was in his place, he’d–
No. These were the exact thought patterns he needed to avoid to prevent another…mistake like the night at Fogwell’s. He'd been doing a decent job not falling down the same rabbit holes–that would all be for nothing if he started fantasizing again now.
But how could he not? You were so thoughtful, and intelligent, and adorable, and goddamn magnetic. Every action you took reeled him further into the treacherous web he was trapped in–unwittingly intoxicating him with your kindness. You were unlike anyone he’d ever met, that fact had only been highlighted since he’d embarrassed himself at Clinton Church.
Shuddering against a gust of wind, Matt continued his brisk pace down the sidewalk as his fingers grew numb around his cane. He was quickly regretting his decision to leave his jacket behind. Hopefully, the bookstore was willing to shell out the extra bucks for a decent amount of heat and he wouldn’t find you as a popsicle when he took shelter.
Huffing out an irritated breath, Matt rounded the corner towards your place of work. It had become almost a habit for him to accompany you during your shifts, keeping you company and working through assignments together. Honestly, it was the best part of his day.
Matt frowned as he closed in on the bookstore. He was having a difficult time hearing your heartbeat, which was usually pattering away, steady as rain, a few feet from the entrance of the store. As he pushed open the glass door, he could finally make out a steady thump accompanied by your familiar scent in the far corner of the shop.
The constant smell of ink and stale paper, now mingling with the slightly acrid smell of dust burning in the vents, stuck in his nostrils—as it always did when he arrived here. It was comforting, in a way, reminiscent of both you and the library at the orphanage, where he’d spent much of his freetime as a child.
Smiling to himself as he approached you, he folded up his cane and let his body relax in the warm bubble of generated heat. You were asleep, curled up around whatever project you’d been working on like a cat on a sunlit patch of carpet. Settling on the floor beside you, Matt propped himself up against a bookshelf before unzipping his backpack as silently as he could. It wasn’t the most organized set up to work with, laying his textbook on the floor and holding his computer in his lap, but after the late night you’d had, there was no doubt you needed the rest.
Body twisting in sudden discomfort, you whimpered beside him, unwinding from your bent shape and towards his body. Readjusting so that your nose was pressed against his thigh, you sighed, brow unfurrowing. Even unconscious, you appreciated his presence.
The denim of his jeans couldn’t have been comfortable for the delicate skin of your nose, but he was hesitant to move an inch if it meant waking you. Besides, the small pinpoint of heat against his thigh was rather pleasant.
Listening to your slumbering breaths, Matt was reminded of his childhood meditation sessions–the sound acting as a barrier between him and the rest of the world, clearing his mind without any effort on his end. He matched his breathing to yours, heart rate slowing to mirror yours as he ran his fingers along the lines of braille in his textbook.
As Matt worked his way through two separate reading assignments, you slept peacefully, nuzzling into his leg every so often with a soft puff of an exhale. It felt like Matt had only spent mere seconds in this unintentional paradise when you began to stir.
With a stuttering breath, you stretched, the sound of your muscles tightening akin to plucking a guitar string rapidly. As you regained awareness, Matt could hear the spike in your pulse–you must have noticed him, then.
“Morning, bug.” He murmured. On a whim, he ran a hand over your shoulder gently, not wanting you to feel unwelcome or embarrassed for lingering in his personal space. “Have a good nap?”
Beneath his palm, you relaxed, your lashes fluttering as you hummed appreciatively. “Hi. Sorry for using you as a pillow.”
“No apology necessary. You ok?” He squeezed your shoulder as you sat up, pulling at your clothes to unfurl the wrinkles from them.
“Yah, just tired after last night.” You laughed, but the sound was a step too high in pitch to be genuine.
“Ugh, I feel you. I think both Foggy and I spent more time in the bathroom than in our beds last night.” Matt chuckled, trying to quiet the devil inside him with a reminder that you’d come to him if something was actually wrong.
Grimacing, you knocked your shoulder against his. “God, Murdock–” You giggled, pressing a palm to your stomach. “My hangover is much too present for that image. Warn a girl next time.”
Shooting you a bashful smile, he nodded dutifully. “Sorry.”
“It’s ok, trouble. No harm done. Well, not much.” With a heavy sigh, you rubbed at your eyes, leaning to grab something that had slid beneath the bookshelf Matt was seated against. “Damn, this manual must have been more boring than I originally thought. It knocked me right out.”
“Learning astrophysics on the side?” Matt jested, smirking at you.
“Oh yah. Astronaut is my backup career.” You laughed, the sound beautiful, and real, this time around. “No, um, setting up a new printer, actually.”
Confusion pooled in Matt’s stomach, for some reason you were embarrassed by the machine behind you, if the heat flooding your cheeks was any indication.
“Oh, did the old one break?” He asked, tilting his head.
“Er,” You paused, looking between him and the plastic box beside you. “No, well not yet, but…just promise me you won't be mad. Well, you’re entitled to anger, I guess, because I may have overstepped?”
Thoroughly bewildered now, Matt swiveled his chin so that his attention could focus on your general area. “Overstepped how?”
“I sort of badgered my boss into buying a braille printer?” The sentence was phrased as a question, but the thing was there, beside you. It's existence evidence that you had definitively obtained one.
Matt was silent for a moment, processing the new information. It suddenly felt like he had swallowed a golf ball. He could barely make out the pounding of your heart over the blood rushing in his own ears. “Um...”
“Shit, Matt, I'm sorry. I should have asked you before I did it. I meant to, I just—” Your nervous ramble was punctuating with small wisps of heat emanating from your gesturing hands.
“Sweetheart,“ He interrupted, snatching one of your dancing hands out of mid air and holding it delicately. ”Please breathe. I'm not angry with you.“
”Oh thank god.“ Your body slammed into his, nearly bowling him over, as you tackled him with a hug. Your nose was chilled as it bobbed up and down the skin of his neck. ”I don't know what I'd do if you were mad at me. I care about you a hell of a lot, trouble.“ Your lips tickled his throat, breath ghosting over his shoulder as you murmured.
”I care about you too, sweetheart.“ His voice was strained, his thoughts consumed with surprise and adoration. He didn't deserve you.
”Hey, don't say that!“ Shit, he must have said that out loud. ”Of course you deserve me, Matt. And you deserve Foggy, and anyone else who you enjoy being around. You're a good person, Matt. You deserve happiness.“ You spoke firmly, not leaving room for his internal doubt.
Constricting your arms, it seemed like you were trying to meld your body with his. One of his hands pressed into the grimy carpet as he held the two of you up, the other rested around your shoulders, his thumb rubbing circles into the fabric of your shirt.
”Shut up.“ He muttered, tears pricking the corners of his eyes as he turned his focus to the rough threads of the stiff carpeting beneath his hand.
”Never.“ You giggled meekly, squishing him to your body one final time before releasing your grip. ”Now I should probably get back to building this printer, if you ever want to be able to use it.“
”Did you want a hand?“ He offered, sniffling discreetly.
”I'd love one! Will you read me these while I reorganize? I got to step 7 already.“ Handing him the packet of braille instructions out of the manual, Matt skimmed the bumps until he found the proper section.
”You attached the paper tray?“ He asked, waiting for you to confirm before reading the next step aloud.
A few days after painstakingly building a new printer together, you found yourself sprinting for the door to Matt’s building, which was rapidly closing and just out of your reach; you stifled a victory squeal when you were able to step into the threshold of the dorm before the door locked on you. Now you wouldn’t have to ask Matt to let you in the building, and that was pretty fortunate given how on edge the poor kid seemed already this morning.
You tended to rise early, given your rigid schedule of classes and work shifts, preferring to start your day just after the sun rose and have as much time to accomplish things as possible. Matt wasn't as much of an early bird as you were, but he tended to wake up before 9am on weekends, while his blond roommate would sleep well past noon if he had the option. Because of your similar schedules, you weren't surprised that Matt had called you; you were surprised, however, that he sounded so miserable before 9am on a Friday.
The conversation hadn't been long, just Matt asking if you'd like to come over and a small warning that he'd ”woken up on the wrong side of the bed“, but you weren't phased. While the handsome law student tended to be on the more reserved and sarcastic side, he was rarely noticeably irritated—tending to play it off with quips to keep his cool around anyone he didn't know too well. There had been a handful of days where you had witnessed his anger slipping through the metaphorical mask that he wore, but he never aimed it at you. Every once and a while, his tone would get a bit snappish, but it never went further than that, and you trusted him to keep his wits intact when he was upset.
So you came quickly with hot breakfast as a peace offering to provide the help he'd asked for, in his own non-descriptive way. Taking the cement steps two at a time, and deftly avoiding the perpetually damp spots on the landing (ew), you were able to make it from your place and to Matt's door in under 30 minutes.
Raising a fist to knock on the thick door, you jumped in surprise—nearly spilling the coffees—when Matt yanked the door open before your knuckles had even skimmed the surface.
”Christ, Matt!“ You squeaked, shaking off the residual adrenaline as he beckoned you inside and shut the door behind you.
If he hadn't already informed you that he was feeling out of it, his lack of opaque lenses would've immediately alerted you of the fact. Matt was very averse to interacting with people without his glasses covering his eyes, even when the only people around were you and Foggy. You'd never brought it up before, not wanting to add to his clear discomfort about the topic, but you assumed he was self-conscious of the way he looked without them.
Regardless, seeing his hazel eyes darting ambiguously around you made you catch your breath. You'd only caught glimpses in the past, but uncovered? They were stunning. The brown of his irises was flecked with green and the reflection of sunlight made them look like pools of honey.
Hearing your choked inhale, a peach-colored blush bloomed across Matt's cheeks. “Shit, hold on, let me find my glasses. I set them down last night and I—” Pacing around you, Matt began to frantically rummage around on his bed, where he'd dumped a pile of what looked to be most, if not all, of his belongings. “They're here somewhere, I know it.“
Setting the paper cups on Foggy's nightstand, you walked a wide arc around the anxious boy as if he were a startled animal, gently laying your hand on his wrist. ”Matt,“
Looking up dolefully, Matt's eyes were glassy as he rambled. ”I'm sorry. I misplaced them. I should've warned you—“
”Matty, stop for a minute please.“ You encouraged, waiting for the boy to pause and take a breath before you continued. ”You don't need to wear your glasses around me, trouble. I'm sorry if I seemed thrown off, I was admiring your eyes.“
”You were...admiring them?“ Matt's voice broke around the question and your heart squeezed.
”Yah, Matty, you have beautiful eyes. I've never seen them up close before.“ Taking his hands, you ran a thumb over his knuckles as he processed your words.
After a minute of silence, you tugged him towards his desk chair. “Why don't we sit for a minute and have breakfast before sorting through your stuff.”
Letting you maneuver him into the threadbare seat, he tilted his head as you placed a paper bag and disposable cup on the desk next to him. “You brought me breakfast?”
Chuckling at his genuine confusion, you nodded. “I did. It would help me feel better if I 'woke up on the wrong side of the bed', so I figured it couldn't hurt. It's just a muffin and a latte from Blue Java, nothing special.“
Matt didn't say anything, his lips still pursed as he opened the bag and began unwrapping the pastry. After breaking off a few pieces to eat, his frown ebbed. ”Thank you.“
”Anytime! So, doing some reorganizing this weekend?“ You sipped your own coffee, trying not to laugh as he wolfed the rest of his muffin down.
”Something like that,“ Matt grumbled, tossing his balled up trash into the plastic bin across the room with ease. ”Our room was just, I don't know...gross, I guess? It needed to be cleaned and when I realized I couldn't find my glasses, I just freaked. I woke Foggy up, and neither of us could find them, so I started putting everything on the bed.“
Matt's lips quirked into a tiny smile. ”I think I scared him because he said he had to study and just disappeared. He's probably asleep in the library by now.“
You chuckled, picturing the blond passed out in the rows of old books. ”Well, his loss. I'm a hoot to clean with.“
”Is that so?“ Matt remarked, grinning fully now.
“Just you wait, Murdock. I have been told I am a fun AND efficient cleaning partner. Let's get this party started.” Standing up and brushing your hands together, you turned towards the items haphazardly stacked on Matt's bed. “How can I help?”
Retreating into his shell a bit, Matt scratched at his neck. “Um, are you sure you want to? I mean, Foggy isn't here to confirm, but I have a really specific method for organizing my belongings, and I would understand if you didn't want to be bossed around.”
“Matt, it's your stuff that we are straightening up. You're allowed to be bossy.” You assured, silently cursing everyone who had planted seeds of doubt in this wonderful man’s brain.
“Ok, just tell me if you want to leave.” Matt ordered. You mock saluted in response.
“Yes, sir!” You giggled as he shuddered with a scoff.
“You asked for it, sweetheart.”
The next several hours were spent sorting through the deceptively small pile on Matt's bed. Matt tasked you with sorting things into categories, which mostly meant separating clothes from school supplies, while he put things back in their designated areas. After finding his headphones tangled, one of his binders broken, and still having no clue where his glasses were, Matt was sliding back to the edge of his rope.
His jaw tensed as he grit his teeth, running his fingers along the sleeves of the sweater he was trying to fold in an attempt to straighten them. Growling in frustration he tossed the sweater back onto the bed and ran a hand over his face.
“C'mere, trouble.” You extended your arms to him and he gratefully collapsed against you. Rubbing small circles into his tight shoulders, you felt a burst of pride as he relaxed against you. “You getting fed up again?”
Matt nodded, face still buried against your neck. You frowned understandingly, untangling the tousled hair along his nape. “Hmmm, I guess we could take a break, what do you think?”
Matt whined, tugging your hips toward his bed.
Laughing at his reaction, you scratched at his scalp. “Ok, Matty. Why don’t we stop for a bit, then? Sound good?”
“Mmmhmm.” Matt murmured, legs turning to jelly as you massaged his pounding head.
Using one hand to shove aside the remaining items on his bed, you crawled up to the headboard and positioned yourself against the wall, letting Matt cuddle up to your side.
You immediately ran a hand back up to his nape, resuming the rhythmic touches that you knew would calm him down. Matt shuddered, rubbing his face into your shoulder as he stifled a yawn. Chuckling at his oddly adorable actions, you wondered if he’d slept at all last night. “You tired, bubs?” You asked softly, grinning knowingly at his affirmative groan.
“Go to sleep, bubba. I don’t mind.”
He must’ve been exhausted because his mouth stayed closed, though you had fully expected an argument. After a few minutes of deep breathing, his body began to slacken against your side. Pressing a kiss to his forehead, you adjusted the covers as best you could, given that they were covered in a couple dozen pounds of stuff, and tucked him in. And, with Matt dozing at your side, you continued sorting through the pile spilling across your lap.
Matt didn’t dream much. Occasionally, he’d have a nightmare; his body experiencing phantom sensations like being hit or feeling someone’s pulse slowly fade, but that was the extent—until he’d met you. It was like you knew you had a direct line to his brain. Your soft touches lingered for hours after the contact ended, his frayed nerves still firing rapidly, replaying the feeling of your fingers in his hair, your lips on his forehead.
He wasn’t meant to feel the kiss. Not that it meant anything more than platonic affection—he was fairly certain it didn’t—but that didn’t mean it didn’t electrocute every cell in his body, vaporizing the immense heap of irritation that had been building since he’d started his day off so poorly.
You had that power over him. Haunting his every waking moment and chasing his subconscious while he slept. You were his constant.
Wedged against you and his headboard, he felt safe, and fatigue had quickly overtaken him. He slept more peacefully than he had in weeks because of you, though the lack of Foggy’s sleep apnea definitely helped. Wading through a field of mental static, he rested, until your subtle movements beneath him popped his bubble of solace.
“Matt?” You murmured, stroking a finger along his cheek.
“Hngh?” He uttered, blearily. Was that a word? He was pretty sure that was a word.
It must not have been a word because you shook with a giggle. Rubbing his cheek with your thumb, he could hear you nibble on your lip. “I gotta leave, trouble. I’m sorry, I’m meeting Evs soon.”
The mention of your obnoxious paramour drew him fully out of slumber. He dug the heel of his hand into his eyes, rubbing the sleep from them. “Shit, I’m up.”
“I’m really sorry to wake you up. Did you sleep ok?” Your voice wobbled with guilt and he tried to give a convincing smile.
“Yah I did. Thank you for staying.”
“Of course! It’s almost 3:00 pm. I texted Foggy and asked him to bring you food, he’ll be here with it soon.” As you spoke, you slid off of his thin mattress, adjusting your clothes and hair.
“Crap. I didn't mean to hold you hostage.” Matt grumbled. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be! I enjoyed being your pillow.” You chuckled, but the statement held nothing but honesty, and that knowledge made his heart flutter. “I, um, I finished sorting your things. I didn’t put away anything unless I was certain of where it went, but…” You trailed off excitedly, snatching his hand from the mattress and placing a lightweight item in his semi-open palm.
“I found your glasses! They were behind your mattress, I almost missed them.”
Tracing the metal frames slowly, Matt choked on a breath. “Thank you, sweetheart.”
“Oh you don’t need to thank me, Matt. We take care of each other, remember?” Your smile was evident in your voice.
He stayed silent, far too concerned with preventing a voice crack to speak.
Realizing that you may have overwhelmed him, you hovered in front of the bed. “Sorry to throw all of that at you right after you woke up. Did you want me to show you where I put everything?”
“No,” He spoke raggedly. Clearing his throat, he started again. “No, I can figure it out. Thanks, sweetheart. For everything. Have fun on your date.”
Your heart stuttered as he mentioned your date. “Thank you, Matty. I will. Call me if you can’t find something?”
“I will, bubs.” With that final promise, he slid on his lenses and jumped out of bed to walk you out. Waving his final goodbye, he closed the door, falling against it as he gathered his thoughts.
Striding back to his bed, he let his fingers waltz over the meticulous stacks of his belongings. You’d straightened up his notebooks, folded his clothes, even arranged his textbooks in alphabetical order. All just because he’d been frustrated and asked for your help?
Running his fingers over the sweater at the top of the column of clothes, his throat constricted as wet trails formed down his cheeks. Pulling the garment to his face, he inhaled faint traces of your soap and natural fragrance, the scent embedded in the fabric. As the warmth from your body faded from his sheets, Matt crumpled to the floor, still clutching the woven sweater in his fist.
Thanks for reading!!!
Mob Psycho 100 Fanfic Recs
Hyper fixating on Mob Psycho rn and have been reading a bunch of fanfic. So I thought I'd be nice to create a list of some of them.
All fics listed are completed unless I specify otherwise.
Also here's someone else's MP100 fanfic masterpost for more recs: here
Last updated: 9/20/24
Issho by ToastyToaster22
VERY long read. Main character is child Teru. An AU in which Teru met Mob and Ritsu before the incident where Ritsu got hurt. Story really gets across the evil of Claw with them kidnapping kids and harassing the few who keep getting away from them. Story also shows Teru's shitty neglectful parents and Dad!Reigen. Teru goes through the ringer in this fic. Fic takes place over the course of 2 - 3 years.
In general this writer has a lot of great Mob Psycho writing. They write a lot about Teru and TeruMob. Also I really like their take on the Kageyama parents. We may not see much of those parents in cannon but it's clear they do care about their kids. Toasty does a great job on using them as actual characters.
Immoral Support by c_c_cherry
Teru lives alone, and has been living alone for awhile. He's given money from his parents but that's it. He knows how to fake signatures but now the school is demanding to see a guardian in-person. Teru not knowing what to do, pretends that Reigen is his guardian, things go on from there.
The Ties were Black, The Lies were White by generally
There is some sex in this story, fyi. Basically Reigen is going to his sister's wedding and can bring a plus-one. Serizawa wants to go with him. They decide to go as "business partners". They do things such as sharing a bed and dancing as "business partners". Of course they realize their feelings for each other and confess. The sex scene is a bit after that.
Walking Mob Home by CryRan88
A short two chapter story about Reigen walking Mob home after work. First chapter: Mob feel asleep and Reigen gives him a piggy back ride to Mob's house. 2nd chapter: Reigen is asleep and Mob gets Dimple to posses him so he can still walk Mob home without actually waking him up.
Mother by Sunlolli
Reigen's got some mommy issues. His mom dies and starts haunting him. The espers in Reigen's life don't want to get rid of her without Reigen's permission but she's really messing him up and he just wants to get some approval from her. Story is a bit depressing but very good.
In Quicksand by SpiritusRex
Reigen gets possessed and gets sick. Unreliable narrator Reigen. Don't worry, the spirit gets caught pretty quickly, and Reigen ends up fine.
It Takes Time by CowardlyBean
A very short fic about Reigen quitting smoking for Mob's sake. Very cute.
you'll have to make due with a reasonable facsimile by SoliAvi
A short fic that takes place right after the end of the separation arc. Reigen and Mob eat ramen together again and Reigen apologizes. Very sweet.
When you need me by SpiritusRex
A 5 + 1 fic. 5 Times Mob hugged Reigen and 1 time Reigen hugged Mob. 1: Little Mob asking for advise about nightmares. 2: Mob being hurt after the Teru fight. 3: Mob holding onto Reigen to float them both back home after the first Claw arc. 4: After the Mogami arc. 5: After separation arc. +1: Reigen hugging Mob after digging him out of the broccoli after 2nd Claw arc.
Rainbow Veins and Life in Technicolor by BinaryDreams1010
As it turns out, Reigen actually IS an esper. He's an empath, and that comes with being able to read and manipulate others emotions. He did not know he was doing that. He just thought he was REALLY good at reading people and convincing them. Serizawa figures it out and tells him. The first story is about Serizawa figuring out Reigen is an empath, the 2nd story is about what Reigen does after knowing he's an empth, that is trying to figure out how to get rid of a spirit on his own.
Use Your Words by CowardlyBean
Reigen gets possessed by a spirit that hates espers. He's stuck in the backseat of his body while it pilots him around, pretending to be him. It's an ass towards Serizawa and Mob. Of course the other characters figure out something is wrong.
Area Hysteria by c_c_cherry
Reigen and Dimple visit a worn down building slated for demolition to get rid of a spirit. The building collapses with them in it. Dimple is fine, Reigen isn't. Dimple posses Reigen's body to help keep him alive and hope for rescue soon. Reigen gets rescued... eventually. But this isn't the end to the problems because Reigen ends up in sort of supernaturally-induced coma that Mob has to get into his head to get him out of. Long story. Marked as unfinished but ends at a really good stopping point. (Update: It started updating again)
Haunting My Own Skin by Kirii_Kitten
Reigen dies and then posses his own corpse to pretend that everything is normal. Dimple is concerned that Reigen's spirit is going to corrupt, his fears are well-founded. Reigen gets found out of course and things go to shit, but there is a happy ending.
symbiosis by ruthwrites
AU in which ???% is a separate entity from Mob and it's made of energy and jumps from esper to esper. When Mob gives Reigen his power during the 1st Claw arc, ???% goes with that energy. Problem is that it didn't go back to Mob, it got stuck in Reigen. I recommend the whole series, the series is kind of depressing though. Reigen really goes through it in this series. I don't want to give too much away but... Reigen isn't gonna come out of this very... human. Each entry in the series is completed, however I can't help but feel the series itself isn't completed, it seems to end on what would be the start of this AUs version of the Separation Arc. It's a bitter ending.
Yesterday by ch_am
Takes place during and after hot springs OVA. Shows Reigen's experience in the parallel dimension. On the train ride home, Reigen has a panic attack and runs off to the bathroom, Serizawa helps him and realizes that Reigen was in that dimension for awhile. Serizawa goes back home with Reigen to make sure that when he wakes up he won't be alone again. They eat breakfast together and talk about what happened.
Reflection by Silver_fox221
Turns out Reigen is a kitsune. He did not know he was a kitsune. He's in denial at first what with these traits only appearing now as a 30-ish year old. But even when he accepts the truth, he can't bring himself to tell the others besides Dimple (who he knows can keep a secret). His kitsune traits include being able to turn into a fox, having a silver orb that's a physical manifestation of his soul that he has to protect, and also a new found fear of dogs. Fic is unfinished but has a very unique idea. I only found a few other stories that had Kitsune!Reigen but in the other ones I saw he already knew he was a fox.
Categories
A lot of fics I like fall within categories, like they play with similar ideas. So I thought I would create lists of fics that cover the same topics. If you like one in a list, you would probably like the others.
Train OVA (Reigen has a bad time)
No Regrets - Part Five
Part One🦇 Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four🦇Part Five🦇Part Six
This beautiful fic cover you see below was made by the fantastic, wonderful and lovely @skepsiss <3 Thanks so much!!! I'm still crying about it.
He jolts backwards, the burning in his chest hurts, it fucking hurts but- but it doesn't? He pulls in a deep, shaking breath and feels no pain.
"Steve?" Nancy asks from off to his right, so he turns to look at her. She looks concerned, and scared in a way he hasn't seen her in years. (Except it's not years, is it? Not anymore, or not right now?) "Are you okay?"
He shakes his head before digging his palms into his eyes. He's dying, dying, dying- he's dead, he has to be. The Storms are so toxic and he-
"Steve," Robin's voice is accompanied by her hands around his wrists. She pulls his hands from his eyes and he lets her. He blinks at her worried face. "Steve, what just happened?"
"I-I was. I think... give me a moment" Steve says. Robin nods once, a confirmation, but she doesn't move away or release his wrists.
He pulls in another deep breath and closes his eyes to think. He's trying to remember. He thinks he promised to explain everything after... after Pennhurst? Yes, he remembers. Promised that after Robin and Nancy got back from their trip to Pennhurst, he'd tell them everything he knows. It's... it is after, now.
It was yesterday that Robin and Nancy went to Pennhurst and spoke to Creel. They learned about Creel, and the music. They still got found out as fakes; Steve didn't remember what caused them to be discovered last time to be able to warn them against it this time.
He still ended up being bullied into driving Max around. This time, though, he already had an hour-long loop of Running Up That Hill in his car. They'd let Max go to speak to Billy alone, like last time. The boys paced around the car and this time, when they realize that Max isn't responding, Steve's already loading the tape into the cassette player. He shoves it into Lukas's hands and tells him to put it on Max, press play, and to not stop begging her to come back until she is.
Steve saw he had questions, but Max was more important. She floated, and fell, and Lucas had caught her. Then...?
Oh, right. Then, he did explain, yesterday evening, after everyone had crowded into the Wheeler's basement. Went over Vecna winning, Hawkins becoming ground zero for the apocalypse. Talks about a future with a lot of loss, but won't say who, as well as the slow decay of the air and earth. That you could breathe the air for small moments of time, but long exposure would make you sick. That even though they'd finally killed Vecna in 1989, too much damage had been done, too many gates opened, kept opening with every new death by demo-creature. El alone would never be able to close off all the gates. They were working on trying to create a reverse of the machine below Starcourt, meant to close gates instead of open, but the world would probably be a complete wasteland before they could complete it.
No one had reacted well to the news, but the yelling was a minimum, which had been a pleasant surprise.
In the end, Steve had told them they needed more people, more help. That he was going to tell Wayne about the Upside Down.
He opens his eyes, now, and looks around. The place is small, familiar almost. Wood paneling and- The Munson's home. They're in Eddie's home. Because last night Steve had come over. He'd come over and told Wayne everything because he couldn't do this again. Not alone, not as the only responsible adult.
The Wayne in the future had been so willing to help, when Hawkins ripped open at its seams, and Wayne in the present was the same. He didn't- he didn't even call Steve crazy. He'd said he believed Steve, that some government lady told him they were going to pay for him to be in a hotel since his home was an active crime scene, but Wayne'd refused. Eddie wouldn't know where to call when he got out, and what if he just showed up and Wayne was gone- well, Wayne found that unacceptable.
Now, Wayne should be his way back from Indy in Eddie's recovered van with the Byers and Mike, and they're here waiting on a call from Eddie.
Steve's not dying, or, he's not anymore? Or maybe he is, and this is just. What the end is like? Getting to put an end to your regrets or something.
Whatever. It doesn't really matter what or why or even how. He knows what is in store for the future if they don't stop Vecna today.
"Sorry, sorry. I'm back," Steve says, opening his eyes to look at Robin.
She scrunches her brow. "Back?"
"Back from the future," Steve gives her a lopsided grin and in return she squints at him, leaning in real close to his face like the closer she is the more of his mind she'll be able to read.
"You're a different Steve. Again."
"What?" Nancy asks.
"Again?" Steve asks.
Robin scrutinizes his face some more before backing off, just a few inches. "Yeah. It was- Saturday, when you just walked out of our shift after Dustin and Max showed up, you were different then. Not. It was- you know how we were just talking about how if only we could combine, our love life problems would be fixed?"
Steve does, but only after having to think about it for a moment. It was so long ago, but it wasn't. Not for the Steve he's replaced, not for Robin in front of him. "Yeah. I remember."
"It's like I didn't realize how much we'd already combined until we weren't anymore. It was like... like you were a completely different person. I thought it was just, maybe, a reaction to learning the Upside Down was back. But you got different. More haunted."
"You noticed a difference?"
Robin scoffs, "of course I did. You're you but it was. This whole week it's been like... each day brings a new you. With different quirks. Except yesterday was still all the same old-new you so I thought- I thought maybe we'd succeeded. Fixed whatever it was that needed changed because you hadn't changed. But we haven't yet. 'Cause you're back."
Steve shakes his head. "No. No, we haven't. But this time- we'll have the manpower."
"No, I mean, I just-" Robin huffs, falling back onto her butt rather than staying in an uncomfortable crouch. "I just noticed, is all."
"Are we making it better," Nancy asks, "or worse?"
Steve looks from Robin to Nancy. "I-I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"I mean I don't know. I don't- I don't know what we've changed. Or if it's been for the better. Because I don't remember."
"Oh," Nancy says with a nod, the look on her face morphing to one Steve knows means she's working out the puzzle of it all. He'll leave her to it.
His attention turns back to Robin, who has her head tipped back, looking at the unopened gate on the roof of the trailer. It definitely cannot be mistaken for water damage anymore. "What are you thinking about?"
Robin tips her head back down to look at Steve. "Exactly that."
"What?"
"Sorry," she says with a frown, "I was just thinking about how we can't- we don't really read each other's minds anymore. I know we should be worrying more about the end of the world but I'm just, just being selfish. Worrying about our friendship."
"You are the only constant in my life, Robin Buckley," Steve confesses, a fierceness to his tone he doesn't even recognize. "You have been, and always will be, the person I need in my life to bother even living it. I swear to God, Robbie, that if anything ever happens to you, I will walk into traffic."
Robin lets out a laugh. "That's a bit extreme."
Steve shoots Nancy a look; he can see she's in her own world. He stands then, offering a hand to Robin to pull her up. "Come on. I have something to tell you. A soulmate secret."
Robin's eyes light up with delight and he pulls her from the ground before leading her to the only place they can get privacy. Eddie's room.
It's two steps into the room that Steve realizes he's never seen Eddie's room before. Or, if he had, the memory of it is lost with the time line it happened in. In Steve's memory, the front half of Eddie's home gets obliterated, and when Eddie and Wayne went back to gather the things that survived the gate opening, Dustin, Mike, and Lucas had gone with the help pack it up. Steve had been helping fortify the high school.
It seems ridiculous, to be hit with the thought of never having seen Eddie's room, with the threat of the apocalypse still looming.
"Alright, secret time," Robin sounds delighted, and her voice pulls him from his thoughts. She shuts the door and turns, eyeing the bed skeptically. "Hmm, standing room only I think."
Steve huffs out a laugh as he takes in the mess of a room, a room that looks lived in and shows Eddie's personality and the things he cares about. Nothing at all like his own room at the Harrington house; perfectly clean and matching and devoid of anything distinctly Steve. "Like you ever make your bed."
The noise Robin makes is clearly offended, and she smacks his arm lightly with the back of her hand, "uncalled for! Unprovoked, even!"
"Yeah, well, you're judging a guy who's been in jail this past 48-ish hours. Not like he had time to tidy up," Steve says.
"I think the state of his bed -whole room, really- is not because he didn't come home to clean up. In fact, I think he just lives like this."
"At least his room looks lived in. I mean, look at all of this on the walls. You think he drew these?" Steve says, hand reach out to brush against a drawing tacked to the wall nearest him.
"Your room could look lived in, too, if you weren't afraid of a few tack holes," Robin replies, crossing the room. Steve watches her go, approaching the mirror and the guitar mounted in front of it. She examines the guitar before picking up the red yoyo atop the amp.
"And here you were worried about not being able to read my mind anymore."
She turns to him and gives him a quick, genuine smile before turning her attention back to the yoyo. "So, what's the soulmate secret? You really good with a yoyo?"
"What? No. I didn't even know that was in here," Steve says.
"I thought you knew the future," Robin teases as she gets the yoyo to successfully fling from her palm and back into her grasp. She makes a little pleased noise before she creeps around the room, gawking at all of Eddie's things.
"I know one, specific future that we are trying to change, if you'll remember. I didn't know you could yoyo."
"Neither did I- oh my God, there's an Alf costume in his closet!"
"A what- no, nevermind. You can snoop and-"
"I'm not a snoop."
"-and listen as the same time, so I just. I'm gonna say something and please know that I have had five years to figure this all out, and also know that the apocalypse has a way of putting things into perspective."
"Mhmm," Robin hums an acknowledgement as she moves back to where she picked up the yoyo. "Why does he have a pepper shaker in his room?"
Steve ignores her, choosing to believe that was just her thinking out loud and not actually asking him. "Actually, the apocalypse was full of surprises. And I mean, beyond the surprises one might expect. Like, so many of our old teachers are survival experts. Did you ever have Mr. Clark, that guy- wait, no. I had something I wanted to tell you."
The phone starts ringing in the living room. Nancy's out there, though, so neither of them move to the door.
"Anyway, this feels so... why am I so nervous about this? I mean, I've already told you once, but, uh, I. I'm a little worried, scared?"
"Hey, whoa," Robin has dropped her investigation and turned fully back to Steve. "What is it?"
"I like Eddie," Steve blurts, needing to get the words out. "I like Eddie, and I died so now I think this is my only shot, like last last shot but I don't even know if he'll still like me back and I'm, like, ridiculously nervous to see him because, and this is the soulmate secret part because-"
"Whoa, what, what!!? Did you just say died?"
"- you cannot tell anyone, but I'm the reason he's been in jail. I called Hawkins PD and told them where they could find Eddie, 'cause if he was in jail then he couldn't be blamed for Fred's murder, but I've never had to fess up to that because, like, Hawkins exploding and life becoming an actual nightmare for years made it not important. Like, what's a criminal record in the face of no surviving government?"
Robin is staring at him, eyes wide and face slightly pale and it's now that Steve thinks that, maybe, he's not doing as well with everything as he thought he might be.
"Am I... okay?" Steve asks himself out loud, and that has Robin throwing herself across the room to clutch at Steve, drag him into a crushing hug. He hugs back, trembling and finding it hard to breath.
"No, no I don't think you are," Robin whispers, squeezing tight.
"Hey, that was- oh!" Nancy says as she flings the bedroom door open. "Sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt-"
"It's just a hug," Robin says.
"Right. Umm, the phone was Officer Callahan. We can go pick up Eddie."
"Right," Steve says, pulling away from the hug and pulling himself together. He can have his mental break down tomorrow. "Let's go get Eddie."
Provided if that, this time when he closes his eyes to rest, he'll wake up here and not. Well, either in the future or not at all.
Hi there! So this is one of the request that had popped up, can i request Tengen Uzui x sibling reader that faked their death to run away.
More context on the reader:
The reader found out that they had just killed their sibling much earlier then Tengen. Disgusted and ashamed of this, they faked their death and ran away from the clan. They later come across the then Thunder Hashira and became his Tsugoku. Wanting to start fresh and forget their past, they took up their master’s last name (with his permission) and change their first name, permanently abandoning the Uzui name.
Cue a few years later, they are now the new Thunder Hashira and they were just called to the Ubayashiki Estate for… something, the crow didnt specify. When they arrived, there were 3 women and 1 man infront of Oyakata sama. And on closer inspection, that man was their brother, looking shocked as them to see the other here.
How would Tengen react to the sibling he thought was dead and now being called a different name, looking scared at the sight of him, thinking that Tengen is trying to bring them back to the clan?
How would Tengen Wives interact with their sibling in law?
Tengen is such an interesting character to me, he really caught my eye during the red district light arc. So i hope you can do this request and take care of yourself. Dont push yourself too much okay? Hope you have a good day/night
A/N: I tried my best with this and hope you'll like it! Thank you for the request, Flower Anon!<3
Content: Angst, hurt/comfort, fake deaths, murder?, sibling reader, platonic relationships, fluff-ish ending, sfw
You didn't mean to kill one of your brothers that day. In fact, you didn't have a choice. How could you have had one, when he tried attacking you for a taste of your flesh? You had taken a small walk with him around the woods at night, something Tengen often warned you two about not doing. But you were just young kids back then, who thought that he was just being an annoying older brother as usual.
And it all happened so fast, that you are still unsure of what exactly it was that went wrong first. Was it you two sneaking out? Was it you two getting lost in the woods? Or was it just getting bad, when your brother got turned into a demon? You couldn't remember, as all you remembered doing next was kicking him away into a clearing out of the woods. It took him a moment to get up and unaware of the rising sun, he began disintegrating right infront of you. You still wonder till this day, why it couldn't have been you instead.
You ran away that day. Far away from your brother, that was now just a pile of clothes. Far away from home and your parents, that were most likely going to be worried sick the moment they wake up and found you two gone. And most importantly, far away from your big brother, who you believed would hate you after what you've done. Could you even have done something to save him? Was there anything that could've stopped it? You didn't know and just wanted to get away as far as possible.
Years passed since then, as you dedicated your life to the art of demon slaying. You felt like you owed it to your brother to end the very creatures that doomed him and you were determined at that. Becoming the thunder Hashira was an easy task for you then, changing your name with it, whilst you wore your sword and Haori with new found pride. You however often thought about your family and wondered how Tengen was doing. You had heard that he had gotten married a while ago. 3 women, just as it was customary to do in your clan. It broke your heart to know, that you'll never be able to meet any of them.
Or well... so you thought. The fateful day it all changed started in the form of a letter. You were called into the Ubayashiki estate for seemingly no reason. This made you nervous, but you ofcourse still found yourself in the estate as soon as you could travel there. You never disobeyed an order after all. But you couldn't help but wonder what the point to all of it was, when you were led down the long and grand hallways of the building.
Your answer came in the form of you walking into the garden and seeing your older brother standing there with three women you didn't recognise. But you knew he was your brother instantly. From the flashy looks up to the stern gaze in his eye that never left him even after all these years... it was him alright. And that scared you more than anything.
You stepped back, your breathing picking up, apologies and incoherent rambles of what had happened spilling out of your mouth, but he just approached you and promptly smacked you over the head, before giving you a tight hug. Suma began crying, whilst Makio told her to quiet down and not ruin the moment. Hina just smiled gently at the siblings reuniting, glad that Tengen seemed to be finally at ease, now that he knew what happened to his siblings.
All five of you eventually sat down somewhere for dinner, as you told them about everything that happened. Tengen was calm and simply told you that he was never angry at you for it, although he didn't like you running away like that. The rest of the day was spent catching up, before you and your older brother went to visit your sibling's grave, finally being able to heal and move on from the past together again.
Emily huffs out a breath as she turns sideways in the mirror, her hands plucking at the material of her dress in an attempt to make it lay differently. She groans as it gathers in the same way again, hanging over a curve that looks obvious to her as she runs her hands over her bump.
“How do I look so pregnant already?” She asks, her eyes meeting her husband’s in the mirror, “I’m only 13 weeks.”
He smiles as he steps up behind her, his hands on her belly as he encourages her backwards, his lips pressed against her temple as her back meets his chest, “Remember what Doctor Gibson said” he says, his lips still against her skin, “It’s normal for a second pregnancy,” he smiles as she rests her head against his shoulder and looks up at him, “Your body already knows what it’s doing.”
She hums, turning her head to kiss his jaw, “I just don’t want her to notice immediately.”
It’s a reminder of a moment from almost 2 years ago when they originally planned on telling Elizabeth that Emily was pregnant with Lily. Aaron knows her anxieties are born from that, from the reminder of what had happened to her relationship with her mother during her first pregnancy and not because she’s worried about how she looked. She loved being pregnant, he knew that, and she’d feel better once she was past this final hurdle of telling her mother.
“She won’t be able to tell,” he says, stamping a kiss against her lips.
She hums in disbelief, “Spencer asked if we were having twins when we told the team,” she deadpans, raising an eyebrow when he laughs, her smile widening when he clears his throat to try to cover his reaction. She’d been strangely relieved when the doctor confirmed she was only pregnant with one baby at her 12-week scan. She didn’t want her pregnancy to be any more complicated than it needed to be, her hope to have the birth she wanted this time still burning bright.
“That’s because for a genius he rarely thinks before he speaks,” Aaron replies, his hands on her hips as he turns her in his embrace, his smile encouraging before he leans in to kiss her, “You look beautiful.”
She beams at him and shakes her head, her teeth sinking into her lower lip, “If you keep this up you’re so getting lucky when we get home,” she scrunches her nose up, “As long as whatever Mom’s chef has made for dinner doesn’t make me sick.” Overall her nausea was better since she’d tipped over into her second trimester, but there were still certain triggers, mostly food related, that would make her feel like she’d been hit by a truck. And she’d once literally been hit by a truck. She leans forward and rests her forehead against his chest, breathing him in, grateful that she could handle the smell of his cologne again, and she sighs, “Can’t we just stay here?”
He chuckles and kisses the top of her head, his hand on her back as he runs soothing circles up and down it, “Come on, sweetheart,” he says, kissing her head again, “The sooner we get there, the sooner we can come home.”
She groans, “You’re right,” she pulls back to look at him, fake irritation in her eyes, “Why do you always have to be so damn reasonable?” She smiles when he winks at her, “You’re right,” she sighs, stepping away from him and looking herself over in the mirror again, “Plus, she’s cancelled on me a couple of times recently - I want to make sure she’s okay.”
He feels concern lick at his insides, a brief flame of worry and pre-emptive anger at the mention of Elizabeth’s recent flakiness. It reminded him too much of when she started drinking again when Emily was pregnant with Lily, and a part of him he couldn’t ignore was worried she’d relapsed. He hadn’t verbalised his concern to his wife, not wanting to do anything to damage the already tenuous relationship between mother and daughter, the foundations still shaky from when they’d got back on speaking terms only a few months ago, and he hoped more than anything that he was wrong.
Their relationship wouldn’t survive it this time. It would finally pull it under, break Emily’s resolve to try and fix anything, her desire to put her family first, their children, the most important thing to her.
He shakes it off for now and wraps his arm around her shoulders as he leads her towards the bedroom door, “If you can’t eat whatever she serves I’ll take you to whatever fast food place you want on the way home.”
She smiles gratefully, “You know what sounds so good right now?” She asks idly, linking her fingers through his over her shoulder, her smile widening when he shakes his head, “Those huge pickles you can get at the farmers market.”
He furrows his brows as he thinks of every time they’d ever eaten burgers together, how she’d pick the offending topping off of hers and slip them onto his plate without comment, “You hate pickles.”
She scoffs at him, “Yeah but the baby doesn’t,” she says like it’s obvious, as if she hadn’t once refused to kiss him until he brushed his teeth after he ate one of the pickles from the farmers market in question, “Maybe they get it from you.”
She smiles at him, and he knows he’d fill their fridge with the damn pickles if it makes her happy.
___
Aaron’s concern peaks the moment they arrive.
Elizabeth looks tired. Sick almost. For the first time since he’d met her, she looked her age, older in fact, and he knows Emily sees it too.
Her shoulders get tighter the moment she hugs her mother, picking up immediately on how she seems to have lost weight, her frame almost delicate as she hugs her daughter back. She tries to ask if she’s okay but Elizabeth brushes her off, claiming she’s just tired after a long day at work, and she decides to leave the matter alone, well aware that her desire to not talk about something until she is ready had come from somewhere.
They talk about Lily and Jack as they eat, Emily’s focus switching back and forth between her nausea and her mother’s own barely touched dinner. Aaron’s plate is the only one that is empty when they are cleared away and Emily turns down dessert, the idea of the rich chocolate cake she’s offered enough to turn her stomach.
She waits her mother out, hoping that she’ll tell her whatever is going on, but in the end, her curiosity wins out, her joy about her pregnancy stuck in her throat. Her happiness feeling nothing short of misplaced in the atmosphere around them that she can’t name.
“Mother, what’s going on?”
Elizabeth’s shoulders visibly tighten, along with her grip on her glass of water, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She sighs, her eyebrows raised as she tries again, “Mom.”
There’s a beat of silence and Elizabeth nods, sighing herself before she starts, “I haven’t been well,” she says, her eyes fixed on the table for a moment before she clears her throat, a look on her face that was the closest she’d ever been to vulnerable, “And there’s no easy way to say this, so I’ll just say it,” she presses her lips together, her jaw tight, “I’m in kidney failure.”
Emily chokes on a noise somewhere between a laugh and a sob before she can stop it, the pressure of it cracking her ribs from the inside out as she shakes her head. She covers her mouth with her hand, only aware of the way her mother was looking at her across the table, and Aaron’s hand sneaking onto her knee, a reassuring squeeze that brings her back to herself.
“What…how?” She chokes out, even though she already knows the answer, the anger she thought she'd buried over her mother’s alcoholism rearing its ugly head, burning her from the inside out as she clenches her jaw tightly to keep it in.
“My doctor says that the alcohol caused irreversible damage,” Elizabeth says, something Emily would call shame if she was looking at someone else flickering in her eyes, “I’ve started dialysis already. But the only solution is a transplant.”
It feels like the air is sucked out of the room, the weight of expectation familiar and overwhelming as it lies on her shoulders. The unasked question lingers between them, and she feels Aaron tense next to her, a much-needed reminder that she wasn’t alone this time. She looks at him, sees the way he’s holding himself together, and she knows it’s taking all of his self-control to not tell her mother off for putting her in this situation again. She’s grateful that he keeps his long-standing promise to not get between her and her mother, that the only thing he does is tighten his grip on her leg under the table.
She feels like she’s been thrown back in time, like it was half a lifetime ago and she’d just made the decision to give up a lobe of her liver because what other choice was there. This time it’s not that simple and Emily was sure it wouldn’t be even if she wasn’t pregnant. She can’t allow herself to wonder if it’s selfish or not, if she should feel bad that even if she knew she could she wasn’t sure she would give a part of herself to her mother again.
She always gave her so much. So much patience. So much room and so many allowances for her behaviour that she only let fly because she was her mother. She’d given her a piece of her liver and she’d even thrown that away by doing the one thing she’d promised she never would.
Emily wasn’t sure she had anything else left to give.
“Mom-”
“I know it’s a lot to ask-”
“I’m pregnant,” she blurts out, none of the finesse she’d practised in the announcement anywhere to be seen. Her words hang heavily in the air between them, thick and cloying and entirely the opposite of how she’d wanted it to be. She clears her throat and looks at Aaron, linking her fingers through his on her knee, “That’s what we wanted to tell you tonight. We’re having another baby.”
She knows she doesn’t have to say anything else, that her implication is clear, that she can’t help this time, and they fall into silence again.
___
He isn’t surprised when he finds her in the nursery.
When they got home he’d left her to it, the silence of the car journey home awkward and heavy, everything he wanted to say to comfort her stuffed back into his lungs. The moment they got in the house she’d walked upstairs, a half-hearted excuse that she wanted to change into her pjyamas thrown over her shoulder as she barely looked back at him. He hears the door he knows to be the nursery, the squeak of the hinges he keeps meaning to oil giving her away immediately.
He gives her time before he follows her up. He takes his time doing chores and cleaning up the kid's toys before he finally heads up the stairs. He makes sure he’s quiet when he pushes the door to the nursery open and he smiles softly at his wife when he sees her sitting on the love seat they kept in there, Lily fast asleep and content in her arms, her cheek squished against her mother’s chest.
“Hi,” Emily says quietly, shifting so her cheek is on top of Lily’s head, her eyes drifting closed as she breathes in the scent of her shampoo.
“Hi,” he replies, staying in the doorway, “Do you want me to leave you alone?”
She smiles at the offer, love for him chasing away the ache in her chest, and she shakes her head, “No,” she says, opening her eyes, “I don’t want you to leave me alone.”
He nods and closes the door behind him, wincing at the squeak of the hinge, his lips pressed together as his wife raises her eyebrow at him, “I will fix that tomorrow.”
She hums as he sits next to her on the love seat, their thighs pressed together as she moves towards him, seeking him out without even thinking about it, “Sure, honey.”
There’s nothing malicious in her tone, nothing but gentle disbelief, but he makes a mental note not to put it off anymore. To fix something that could be fixed. He turns his head and kisses her temple, “I promise.”
She lets herself sink into the comfort of Lily against her chest and Aaron’s arm around the two of them, the thoughts that had been tumbling around her head finally coming to a stop, “I thought she was drinking again.”
She’s spoken so quietly he barely hears her and he shifts so he’s looking at her, his finger hooked under her chin as he encourages her to look up at him, “What did you say, sweetheart?”
“I thought she was drinking again,” she says again, sighing as she shakes her head, “She’s been acting strangely lately and that’s the first place my brain went.”
“Mine too,” he admits, tucking some of her hair behind her ear, letting his fingers linger on her cheek, “I didn’t want to say anything because I hoped I was wrong.”
She nods, her smile sad as she thinks about how similar they were, how perfect he was for her in so many ways, “It might sound insane, but this feels worse somehow,” she admits, swallowing thickly as she says what she’d been thinking since her mother’s revelation, “If she was drinking again I’d know what to do. I’d know where we’d stand going forward. It would be…”
She trails off, her jaw tight as he watches her eyes get shinier. He strokes her cheek again, catching a tear the moment it falls, “Easier.”
“Yeah,” she jokes out, a hysterical laugh caught in her chest, “It would be over. I wouldn’t be able to have a relationship with her anymore, but it would be easier, “This…” she shakes her head and laughs dryly, “This is so complicated,” her eyes meet his and her chin tremble, “She could die, Aaron. And the worst thing is even if I wasn’t pregnant I don’t know if I’d do it,” she wipes her cheek as another tear falls, “And I know addiction is complicated,” pausing when the familiarity of the conversation makes her momentarily breathless, a memory of the conversation they had when her mother relapsed hitting her with full force, “But I’m so angry at her for doing this to herself, for putting us all in this situation.”
“It’s completely normal to feel that way, sweetheart,” he assures her, his smile encouraging as he continues to stroke her cheek, “You’re allowed to be angry. You saved her life once before and she did the one thing she promised she wouldn’t. And not only that, she threw what you’d done for her back in your face like it was nothing,” his lips quirk up into a half, sad, smile, “Even if you could do it again and wanted to I’m not sure I’d want you to. I know it’s your body and your decision…”
She smiles at him as he drifts off and she leans up to kiss him, her lips soft against his as she holds Lily still against her, “I know what you mean,” she blows out a breath, “When will everything just be less complicated?”
“Probably never,” he replies, smiling when she groans, “But at least we have each other.”
She nods, stamping her lips against his again, “Always.”
“Always,” he repeats, kissing her once more before he encourages her to snuggle up against him, tucking her and Lily against his side, “I could always get tested. See if I’m a match-”
“No,” she says firmly, her tone surprising him a little, “The last time you were in the hospital was after everything with Foyet…” her voice catches, her emotions and hormones getting the better of her like they always did these days, “I can’t go through you being in the hospital again and everything it will bring up if I can avoid it, especially not when I’m pregnant. I just can’t-”
“Okay,” he assures her, cutting her off as she starts to sound like she’s pleading with him, the sound of her desperation a physical blow to his chest. He kisses her temple, his grip on her arm tightening, “Okay, sweetheart. We won’t go down that road.”
The breath she lets out is shaky and she nods against him, her forehead against his shoulder, “I love you for even thinking about it,” she says, “But this isn’t your issue to fix. Or mine,” she swallows thickly, “We’ll help where we can but…this time I draw the line at donating body parts.”
He hums and they fall into something close to contented silence, the only sound in the room Lily’s breathing. Eventually, Emily yawns, the emotional toll of the evening catching up with her, and Aaron kisses the top of her head.
“Do you want me to put her down for you?” He asks, his hand over hers on Lily’s back. He isn’t surprised when she shakes her head.
“Not yet,” she says, tilting her head to look up at him, “I want to sit her with her for a bit if that’s okay.”
He nods, unable to deny her anything, “We can sit here as long as you want.”
She smiles, “I love you. I…I wouldn’t want to do any of this, the good or the bad, with anyone else.”
He kisses her forehead, then her nose and then her cheek, smiling when it draws a genuine laugh out of her like he knew it would. “I love you too. I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else either.”
Red Licorice
Chapter Five: Black Sheep
“Wanna try some of my Red Licorice?” - Billy Loomis
5
Five Years Ago:
Woodsboro, California, October 31st 1991
The classroom was buzzing with young teens' voices as the clock was ticking overhead, chatter about costumes and candy were the topics in each group. Shaking down houses was the priority for tonight, Halloween was here; the second anticipated holiday next to Christmas.
(Y/n) laid her aching head down on her desk, it was too warm in the classroom, not to mention it strained her throat in order to speak. She had a bad feeling her state would put a dent to her friends plans for tonight, they had been planning for Halloween since the beginning of school. Stu had insisted they needed a plan to hit the best houses with the good candy before the others, as well as planning their rides ahead of time so they wouldn't be late. Mrs. Matcher had promised to drive them, only if her son promised to keep his room clean for the rest of the month; Stu had exceeded his promise, that room had never looked cleaner.
“(Y/n)?!” The girl jolted in her seat, blurry eyes focusing on the lanky male standing next to her. Stus lips were in a frustrated pout, cheeks pink as he fiddled with the loose threads of his striped long shelves. “Were you even listening? You don't think my Freddy Kruger costume will be that boring will it?”
“N-no! It’ll be cool Stu-Stu I know it,” the girl laid her head back down on the cool desk, taking in the way her best friend's smile widened. His mood always improved when she called him by his nickname, it was a funny joke behind it that many people wouldn’t understand. Just the two of them. “You might scare some of the little kids though.”
Matcher snickered, “That's the point! I got my dad to get me the really realistic looking mask so all the princesses would wet their panties when they see me!”
“What if I was a princess? Would you want me to pee myself?”
The boy made a face in response,“No! What kind of question is that? You know you're not like the rest!”
The girl smiled, her heart thumping, “Boy…like the rest huh?”
“Yeah,” Stu softened his tone, “You’re way better,” His eyes traveled around her face before his brows relaxed “-your like home.”
“Home?”
“Yeah. Home.”
A sound erupted on the other side of them catching their attention, Billy made a face, clearly disgusted or annoyed with the situation. In the class Loomis sat on the girls' left side, it was a good partnership for assignments as well as a friendship. His cheeks were slightly peppered with freckles-nearly invisible to the naked eyes. His hair was cut short , messy yet soft looking as it frayed up in different angles, Billy hated brushing his hair. A bandage sat beneath his left eye while sporting a busted lip; he had fallen off his bike a day ago trying to be on time for school, falling face first on the pavement.
“Excuse me while I get fucking sick over here,”
Stu sent a sly middle finger back at his friend, a smirk playing on his lips, “You're just jealous cause she agreed to be Micheal instead of Jason like you wanted.”
Billy huffed, “It makes sense for her to be Jason! She loves wearing overalls! All she needed to do was walk around with the mask and a fake machete.” This was the argument last month when the three of them were planning out their Slasher costumes. Of course Stu wanted to be Freddy whereas Billy wanted to be Dr Lector-I know right? Who would’ve guessed? The boys thought she would be perfect for Jason, the hockey mask would go great with her two little Afro puffs on each side.
But she didn’t want to be Jason. She wanted to be Micheal.
“If I'm gonna wear my overalls, I might well be Chucky-” A wet hard cough cut through the girl's statement. She proceeded to hack into her arm, each rack of the sound being made through her body causing her head to pound. She was able to stop-but her throat was practically throbbing.
There were concerned glances between the two boys, Stu had crouched down to the girls face trying to get a better view of her state-whereas Billy leaned back in his seat mind already made up. The girl had been coughing all day in their classes, not to mention her grimaces each time she swallowed. Loomis could only guess that it was possibly a cold; it was unfortunate she caught it on Halloween, but her health matters more.
“Are you alright (Y/n)?” Stu whispered softly, it was as if he wasn’t trying to hurt her ears, “A-are you gonna make it for tonight-“
“Of course just give me-“ Another cough racked through her being, much harder than before. Stu rubbed the girls back gently ignoring the looks from the other boys in the class. Normally he would let their stares get to him, but when it came to (Y/n) he couldn't seem to care. “J-just give me a few hours. We still have enough time, we start at seven, remember?”
Billy clicked his tongue, “You don’t sound alright. I hope you know we won’t be mad if you can’t make it, there’s always next year-“
“No-“ Another cough, “This is my favorite time of year-and we’ve been planning this night since school started!”
The two boys looked at each other having a silent conversation, it would be hard to convince her that they were okay with not doing Halloween this year. They were a trio, they wouldn't celebrate halloween without their best friend, there were other things they could do other than trick or treating. Sure, they had worked this hard to get here, but it wouldn't be the same.
Billy sighed, playing with his busted lip lightly, “Listen final girl, there's other things we can do tonight other than trick or treating. It's gonna be cold outside and make your fever even worse-,”
“So you guys are going to ditch me like Casey did too?!”
The boys froze looking at her for a moment, the words sunk in for the Loomis boy first causing a deep frown to take over his features. They knew the blonde was one of (Y/n)’s longest friends besides them, so naturally they refrained from getting jealous as much as possible. They're both girls, it was healthy for their friend to have another of the same gender or sex to be able to relate on specific things they couldn't.
However they weren't aware that she had ditched her recently. Did something happen between the two of them? Is that the reason she hasn't mentioned her as much recently?
Stu tried to step forward only for the bell to ring. The class erupted in cheers as they raced outside to the buses, a familiar afro haired girl following not too far behind. She did look back at them however with a frim glare, “We’re going trick or treating this evening.”
☿
“You're not going trick or treating this evening,” Aunt Gia stated firmly. She removed the thermometer from the girl's lips before changing the warm wet rag to a cold one to keep the fever down. “I've already called Mrs. Matcher a few minutes ago-”
“No auntie please! Me, Stu, and Billy have planned for months-” The girl cut off with another cough before laying back down on the sofa. She felt defeated at this point, she tried so hard to find ways to stay as fit as a fiddle the whole month but still caught a cold. (Y/n) blamed her fellow classmates for the lack of hygiene they all displayed; sneezing into the air, rubbing snot on the desks before the next class, and simply refusing to stay home when having any illness in the book.
‘ Great, first Casey decides to spend Halloween with her cheer group instead of me and now I can't even spend Halloween with my other two best friends.’
A sniff cut through the living room gaining the older woman's attention. She frowned seeing her niece's tear streaked face, but she really didn't have a choice. She wasn't going to let her go out with a cold as severe as that one. Gia wished Casey didn't bail on (Y/n) the way she did this year, this summer she was so excited to spend Halloween with her only to be disappointed when she heard about the princess halloween party she would be attending.
“Sorry (Y/n), but everyone on the team already decided what we're doing,” Caseys voice rang out from behind (Y/n)’s bedroom door, “I'm going to Aurora, since Tatum insisted she be Cinderella. Isn't that great!”
No it wasn't.
With a huff Gia looked through the selection of horror movies on the top shelf from (Y/n)’s reach. She had to find new places to hide them each month so the girl wouldn't binge them on school nights while she was at the hospital. Tonight was a Thursday, usually she would have to wait one more night before being able to watch horror movies but she decided it was okay tonight. What else could the girl do anyway other than lay down on the front sofa while she took care of her.
“What are we feeling like watching today (N/n)?” Gia rounded the sofa holding out a bunch of horror films for the girl, she offered her a soft smile, “I did get a few new ones for ya before you got out of school, the BlockBuster had them on sale.”
(Y/n) sniffed again, “What do you got?”
“Uh- Graveyard Shift, IT, Nightmare on ElemStreet, Halloween, Child's Play-”
“Childs Play sounds good.” The girl whispered softly. She swallowed thickly before reaching over to grab the cold glass of water off the coffee table. She would've preferred hot chocolate over this but knowing her aunt she believed orange juice was a better sol;utiuon right now. She would ask for it once she was done with her glass. “Are you going to watch it with me?”
“Of course,” Gia smiled, “Just as long as you promise you won't recite the lines.”
(Y/n) pouted, “ But that's the best part-”
“Uh uh, I'm not watching you spoil it line for line if we're going to watch it together.”
The two got settled into the house the best they could, (Y/n) eventually relaxed against the sofa with a change of pajamas. They were her usual of course, one of her dad’s old sport tees and some lounge shorts. Gia would make comments here and there about the film, and (Y/n) wanted to enjoy them-she really did, but the rawness of her throat begged her not to laugh too often.
The movie would often be interrupted by trick or treaters at the door, it almost clicked like clock work to a point where (Y/n) almost forgot what time it was. Seven thirty; thirty minutes over the time Stu and Billy were supposed to pick her up. A hot bubbling sensation made its way across her cheeks before her eyes swelled with frustration. This was the one holiday she looked forward to each year, and now it was ripped from her grasp just as fast.
Something always happens to me each year on this damn holiday. So I guess it's to be expected.
A part of her hoped Billy and Stu would stop by, Hell, maybe even Casey. The thought of five princesses in their costumes left the girl's heart sinking further. That was right, her best friend ditched her for the cheer squad this year for trick or treating. She didn't know what she was expecting, Casey was always busy with someone else on Halloween.
Blowing a raspberry (Y/n), grabbed another film off the coffee table. Pursing her lips together she decided she wasn't in the mood to see Freddy tonight, but the killer she was supposed to dress up as with her friends.
“Starting another film without me?” Gia asked from the door, a group of kids were eagerly grabbing for the candy in the bowl. A lot of their costumes actually looked really nice. She would have complemented a boy's Chucky costume if he had actually put more effort. Chucky's hair is red, if he was going to leave his hair naturally brown, he should have dressed up as Andy. “What are we watching next?”
“Halloween.” The girl replied shortly, “Since I was going to be Micheal tonight.”
The older woman frowned, “Oh (N/n). I promise they'll always be next year-”
“Why have next year when we can have this year Miss (L/n)?” A voice sounded from the door.
(Y/n) shot up on the couch in shock, her eyes widening in shock at the familiar face of Stu poking his face through the doorway in greeting. She couldn't help but match the elated look on the boy's face, wiping away the tears from before she stumbled over towards him in her fevered state. Stu walked in and quickly caught her in an embrace, a soft squeeze was given before he guided her back over near the couch.
“H-how? Why did you guys-?”
“Sorry it took us a minute to get here,” Billy started, he paused the movie before placing two pumpkin pails filled with candy on the coffee table, “We quickly changed the time from seven to six so we could shake down as many houses as possible before coming here.”
Loomis turned to the girl's mouth agape before giving her an award winning smile, “You didn't think we were gonna leave you alone on Halloween did ya?”
“Would you be upset if I said yes?”
“No,” the boy huffed, flopping on the other end of the sofa, “ I'm just a tad bit disappointed you had no faith in us.”
(Y/n) sent an apologetic glance his way, “It's not that I don't have faith ... .I'm just used to being left behind on Halloween.”
“Lemme guess,” Stu said on the floor, “You thought we were gonna be like Casey with her little posse of whining princesses.”
There was a long string of silence before the girl spoke again, “I'm sorry-”
“Hey. We're here now and that's all that matters,” Loomis smirked, “Now, Stu rewind the movie, we need to watch from the beginning if we want to recite the lines right.”
A groan from the tweens left caught their attention. Aunt Gia and Mrs Macher stood in the archway unimpressed with the sight. It was clear to the group of friends though they were pleased they were enjoying themselves though.
“Looks like I'm kicked from movie night,” Gia said to Mrs Macher, “Care for a drink in the kitchen?”
“Please. If I hear another word from Stu about his Freddy costume being ‘underappreciated’ I'm going to lose my mind,” Stu’s mother laughed.
Stu’s face grew red in agitation, glancing at the masks in his pumpkin pale “None of the adults were scared of me! Not even the old ladies who answered the door.”
“If we're being honest half of them had bad eyesight-”
“Guys!” The girl roughly cut in with a cough, “You can tell me about your costumes later. Let's watch the movie and get sick on candy right now.”
The two boys let out a laugh before obeying the fevered girls wish. The three of them had a ball reciting quotes, talking about the actors as well as how cool the effects were. It was a bit hard to eat the candy here and there but (Y/n) seemed to manage. She scooted closer to Billy and laid her head on his shoulder, snuggling into his side as he stiffened considerably. The boy's face was a light pink and his gaze remained focused on the screen.
“Thank you,” She whispered into his shoulder. At first she thought he didn't hear her from the screams through the speaker, but the boy shifted his eyes from the screen this time-something he never does.
“It was no problem-”
“No I mean it,” (Y/n) swallowed thickly, her eyes lidded halfway due to exhaustion from the fever. “You guys didn't have to come over, but you did. I'm happy I got to spend time with my two favorite boys tonight.”
Stu heard her sand turned his head around excitedly, his heart sporaing, “Your favorite? Were both your favorites?”
The girl nodded, “Yeah I thought that was obvious?”
The boys stared at each other for a long moment, smiles permanent on their faces. Although in their eyes something dangerous and dear say obsessive swirled through. It was as if they were one in the same, wanting-needing the same thing that was their goal when looking at the girl before them.
“I got you two something,” (Y/n) whispered through a yawn, “I thought you would like customized pails instead of the same orange one everyone uses.”
Stu shot up excitedly, “Really? Where are they,final girl?”
“They're in the kitchen on the counter,” The girl giggled.
The two tweens on the couch watched Stu race towards the kitchen leaving from their sight. Billy reached into his now boring pumpkin pail and sorted through his candy pulling out a pack of red licorice. The boy fiddled around with the rapper trying his best not to jostle the girl beside him as she focused on the movie ahead. Micheal was currently creating a bloodbath with Laurie's step parents.
“Wanna try some of my red licorice?” Billy whispered in the girl's ear.
(Y/n) looked at the candy the boy held out to her in interest, “What does it taste like?”
“Sweet revenge.” He smiled.
With a laugh the girl took the candy and took a large bite. Surprisingly she found the treat sweet and different. The texture was chewy and she was glad it was longer in length to enjoy. Upon finishing up the treat she found herself looking back up at the boy with a smile. Her smile was returned awkwardly, light freckles disappearing within his red hue.
“Well?” He asked
“Hmm,” (Y/n) hummed, “I guess it does taste like revenge. The question is..who is the revenge for?”
Billy snorted, “Who is it for?”
“Yeah. If the revenge is going to be there it needs to be justified,” The girl said. Stu came back into the room just in time to tune into the conversation. In his hands were two black painted pumpkin pails with the names ‘Stu Stu’ and ‘Billy Boo’ on the back of them. It really warmed the boy's heart that she even went out of her way to put their favorite candy in the pails.“You can't just have revenge on someone out of nowhere. Think about how it'll affect you, your future, as well as the ones you care about. And the most important thing….how will you get away with it?”
“Easy!” Stu chimed sitting on the girls other side of the sofa, “You find someone to frame! It might take awhile to observe and see who their enemies are but eventually you'll find someone with a vendetta.”
(Y/n) smiled at him, “That's my Stu Stu.”
Stu sputtered in shock, looking from the girl back to Billy. The other boy glared at Stu in jealousy, not understanding how he was getting most of the attention. In response Macher decided to match his stare only his had more of an edge to it-insanity.
It was a good thing that Mrs Macher decided to come into the living room at that very moment.
“Alright boys, time to go home! We need to make sure that (Y/n) gets proper rest so she can start feeling better.”
Stu pouted his lip slightly, “We can't stay a few more minutes?”
His mother shook her head at him, “A few more minutes will turn into an hour then the next thing you know you'll be asking to stay the night. Plus we have to drop off Billy at his house. We don't want to worry his parents now do we?”
“No…”
“That's what I thought. Now let's get going before it gets colder.”
The boys turned to their friend sadly. Although they were able to spend Halloween together this year they weren't ready for the fun to end just yet. We wanted more time. They needed more time together. They don't know if they were going to have many more moments like this with each other as much once they grew up. Especially what will happen once they reach High School.
Almost as if (Y/n) could read the boys' minds she sent them a reassuring smile. She even took it upon herself to take Billy’s hand in hers for extra measure, “We'll have to plan more for next year. This time we'll need a backup plane just in case one of us gets sick. Well be older then so will be more likely to stay longer with one another. Meaning….more horror movies!”
Stu stared at her with unexplained longing, “You promise (N/n)?”
“I promise,” She smiled.
With that the boys had packed up and left the (L/n) residence. They hated to say goodbye to their friend but it was guaranteed they would see her back in school soon. Billy was halfway through the driveway when he stopped and looked to his right spotting a blur of pink and other colorful hues.
Casey had stared at the boy in shock, her halloween bag hung limp at her sides as she seemed to process what she was seeing. The rest of the cheerleaders indeed where dressed up as princesses, one even going so far to have her hair colored red for Ariel instead of a party city wig.
The sight made the boy glower at them, they decided to show up to his friend's house to trick or treat rather than to hang out. The sad part is he knew she was waiting for Casey to come visit her. To check on her to see how she was doing and she candy with her. But that's not what Becker was planning to do, she was having a good time with the dumb wussies she called friends.
The sight made him sick to his stomach.
“What are you doing here?” Casey asked.
“What are you doing here?” Billy mocked, “I take it you're not here to check on (Y/n) after she caught a cold.” That time it was stated as a fact rather than a question.
He watched in satisfaction as the girl's face grew white.
“She's caught a cold?” Becker asked in worry, “Is she alright? She hasn't been walking around has she-”
“She's fine now,” The boy said stiffly, “Me and Stu took good care of her. Something you could never do in her time of need.”
The girl didn't even get a chance to respond before Billy turned and headed towards the Macher car where Stu was watching the whole interaction. A satisfying chill ran down the twos spin as they watched Casey cry to her friends, not even bother to touch the (L/n) residence doorbell.
And although it sounded cold when he said it. He meant every single word.
☿
Billy opened the door to the Loomis residence with a huff, a content smile was on his face as he looked down at the load of candy he had in his black pumpkin pail (Y/n) had given him. The red licorice wrapper the two had shared was still on top, and the boy couldn't bear to part with it due to the memory it held. Maybe he could place it in the memory box or near one of his pictures-.
The boy froze in place as he heard a shout from his parents bedroom down the hall. Judging by the high pitch scream it was clearly his mother, it sounded angry-pure developed rage than he had ever heard from her before. Sure she got mad at him sometimes and shouted but it was more in a scolding manner, but this-this was unlike any other sound. So without all of his courage lost he made way down the hall to the bedroom door.
“For the love of god, Nancy! Nothing is going on between me and Maureen-”
“Oh really?! Then why was this whore in our house barely clothed?!” Nancy hisses from behind the door, “You're always out at night, conveniently when Niel is away from their home! And you leave me here with your son who I tuck into bed each night-”
“Don't bring Billy into this!” Hank growled low, “If I have made any mistakes-”
She scoffed, “Mistakes? Sleeping with another man's wife and cheating on yours is a mistake-?”
“Yes!” He confessed, “What was I supposed to do? She came on so strongly and you haven't touched me in so long-”
“That's what we talk about together as husband and wife! Not go and give in to a whore who has her legs open for the whole town!”
Hank moved towards the door only for his wife to block him, Billy could see just how intense his father's gaze was through the crack. His face was red, hair deseveld with a faint red lip on his cheek, just seeing the sight made his stomach sink in and his face turn red. Somehow he didn't want to believe it-to believe that his dad would cheat on his mother and give in to another woman-a married one no less.
“Hank,” Mrs. Loomis sobbed, “I can't do this no more…either you tell Mauren that this is the last time or I'm leaving.”
Billy watched his fathers face go white as a ghost, mouth agape. It almost felt as if they were mirroring each other-father and son soaking in the threat before the both of them. His mother wouldn't leave him here would she? His father was at fault, not him.
Hank drew in a breath, “You wouldn't. You love Billy to much-”
“Watch me.” His mother hissed, “I’ll pack up my things and take Billy with me!”
The man scoffed, “With what money? Mine? I'm the one who’s working my ass off to provide for this family, what do you do honestly? Lay around on your fat ass while me and Billy are gone. Who’s to say you haven't done the same thing-”
“Hank, are you serious-?”
“Don't think I’ve forgotten those longing glances you gave to Mr (L/n) before his death years ago -”
“Don’t speak ill of a dead man! Have you lost your damn mind?! ”
“You always spoke so highly of him. About how he was such a good husband and father. About how he always showered his wife in love and affection all over town-”
“Don’t broadcast your insecurities on me about that family, Hank!” The woman's face was red now, her tears spilled over and frustration building. “Billy cares for (Y/n) deeply! Don't speak ill about her parents in this house!”
Hank growled deeply, “He needs to learn that this girl he's spending time with is not going to want to be with him. She's a spitting image of her mother, and their kind don't take kindly to mixing-”
A sharp sound of a closing door stopped the two adults from squabbling. Nancy’s heart stopped, eyes landing on the door cracked a smidge. While the mother felt her heart breaking in two from her son hearing their argument-the father had no other wish but to drink his sorrows away. The words were already said and there was no way of taking them back.
Mrs. Loomis turned towards her husband in fury, “You bastard! Do you understand what you've just done? What you just said?!”
“ I stated nothing but the truth in concerns of his company-”
A sound of a responding smack resounded through the room along with a slam of the door. Nancy rushed down the hallway towards her son's door, her heart beating her ears, a thundering in her chest from the amount of maternal pain she was enduring. Out of all the things she didn't want Billy to hear, it was that. Once upon a time she truly did love her husband with all her heart, still does. But at times he asks herself did she truly know the man she married after all?
She hesitated before letting a soft knock on the door. “Billy? May I come in sweetheart?”
A soft “Yes Ma’am” was heard beyond the door.
Upon entering the room she found her son sitting on the bed with his chin to his knees. His room was a mess from getting ready this afternoon, vhs tapes in a corner along with comic books and sneakers. His pumpkin pail from this evening was sitting on his dresser along with the rest of his costume she slaved away on. She didn't find it a burden to put together his costume, it was well worth it to see the bright smile upon her son's face.
Nancy sat down next to her boy, watching his eyes become watery, “How much did you hear my sweet boy?”
Billy sighed into his knees, “Is it true? Is dad seeing another woman?”
His mother held her breath, tears threatening to come to the surface once more but refined from letting them spill, “I have no proof that he is. But I do have suspicion." She lied.
Nancy didn't want to tell her son about the sight she had seen earlier when coming back from volunteering in town square. They were all over each other on the couch, the woman's clothes tossed around the living room and practically naked once she walked in. To make matters worse it was as if the other wife had no shame. Maureen made it her mission to flaunt her perfect naked tits to the way she displayed the hickeys her Hank left on her body. She felt sick , fueled with jealousy and rage; her husband simply said nothing as well. Putting his dick back up in his pants and helping Mrs. Prescott dress back up as if nothing transpired.
If she hadn't thought about Billy at that moment, the two of them would’ve been chopped up carcasses on the floor.
Her son looked up at her letting a stray tear roll down his cheek, “If we were to leave Dad we wouldn't leave town right? I can't abandon my only two friends here.”
Her breath hitched before drawing her boy into a war. embrace , “Of course not sweetheart, i'll find a way to stay here-for both of us to stay here.”
“And you won’t leave me here with him?”
“No,” Nancy whispered, “Never.”
“You promise?” Billy breathed heavily.
His mother looked up at the ceiling, praying for an angle of some kind to tell her what to do in this situation. To give her the strength to tell her son yes. That his mother would never abandon him in his time of need, in his youth when he needs her the most.
Instead nothing came out of her mouth. Just the mother and son breathing in sync in the room together almost as if they were still one. And Billy Loomis for the first time, understood what it was like to truly have a broken home. With someone to fucking blame.
A woman by the name of Mareen Presscott.
Nobody talks about how triggering it is to be forced to prove your mental health struggles to doctors & government services so that you can receive help. Being abused and labelled "bad" by teachers when really I was anxious and struggling, to feeling like people think I'm faking anxiety attacks for sympathy/benefits/leniency whenever I'm asked to explain or prove my anxiety.
When I was 8 and shy with no friends, a teacher liked to pick on me. She did many cruel things, but one that sticks with me was she would call me bad, naughty, etc, whenever I was too scared or shy to do something. On my last day at that school, she wanted every kid to stand up individually and tell the class their most embarrassing story, for "fun". When I couldn't do it, she told me I was a really bad kid, and threatened to lock me in the resource room/cupboard over summer break if I didn't comply. I fell apart in the car when my mum picked me up and never saw the teacher again. The word "bad" was etched into my mind.
I remember being 14 with a social worker in my living room trying to assess my lack of ability to be at school without throwing up from anxiety, so I could start home schooling temporarily. I remember having no clue how to portray or explain my anxiety, no way to force a display of it. A few weeks later I was marched to an office where I was hounded with questions about my traumas by a skeptical woman until I was so overwhelmed and humiliated that I was bawling my eyes out and frozen, unable to speak. They intentionally triggered me to prove I was sick. Once I was in an uncontrollable state of emotion, she was suddenly warm, kind, even validating. She probably didn't want to make me cry. But government protocol made her.
15 minutes ago I got off the phone with a nurse who very much sounded like she didn't believe me. I asked for a doctor's appointment to sign a medical certificate on my work ability, just like the one I'd routinely gotten years ago before I found part-time work and decided to get off the benefit (even though I was still eligible since it was part-time, I just really hated being on it). The certificate tells the government that I can work up to 20 hours so they don't expect me to look for full-time work, which I can't without mentally crashing. I eventually booked the doc appointment, but not without having to explain and over-explain and explain again to this person why I think I need it. Certainly not without breaking into tears and barely being able to squeak out a "thank you, bye" before hanging up.
She didn't even do anything wrong, it's procedure to ask questions, but god it takes me back to feeling like nobody sees me as someone struggling with anxiety. People just see me as "bad".
And I wish I could grab these people by the shoulders and scream "I don't want to be this way. I would give anything not to be this way. I am deeply angry with myself all the time for the way that I am."
any thoughts on pd ep 33, comprehensible or not?
‼️ MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD FOR EPISODES 30-33 OF JRWI PRIME DEFENDERS ‼️
also sorry anon this got way out of hand
Oh man where would i even START. I think what’s really getting me is the heartbreak. What’s still haunting me is that very last line William says, “I really wanted to have a brother.” Like fuck. FUCK!! Fuck Charlie Slimecicle for always giving his characters the most excruciating of sibling relationships and fuck Bizly for playing David so goddamn well.
William got himself into this mess by following his brain, by thinking that the logical thing to do to save the most people and make sure everyone got out of this alive was to just let David take his samples and make sure no one else got hurt in the process. But it’s so clear in episode 33 that despite his better judgement, despite knowing LOGICALLY he shouldn’t trust David, shouldn’t believe him… he does. Because he wants to believe his brother might not be so bad, that he might finally have a brother at all, that there was one thing that came out of deadwood that wasn’t sick.
I keep going back to that scene in David’s private room, where he gives William what is ostensibly his first drink, plays the role of big brother so well, asks him questions to which William spills everything because how could he not? After years of feeling like and believing the older brother he always considered better than him hated him, disliked him, thought him (rightfully in his mind) a freak, how could he refuse this olive branch?
So William tells him everything, and David tells him to come home safe. David tells him he’ll protect him if he needs, that he can come to him for help. When William goes to awkwardly leave, David pulls him in for a hug.
And the worst part of all? I don’t think David is necessarily lying. Or faking. Not fully, at least. I think David is finally interested in William now, in his own twisted way. I think he’s stopped seeing him as some weirdo little brother who disappeared to go be some self righteous hero, and instead started seeing him as… an equal-ish. Someone more on his level. Someone who does see the world for what it is, and is willing to do what it takes to make those hard calls. He was using William, absolutely. Manipulating him for his own ends, without a doubt. But I think he meant it when he told William to make sure he made it back safe. I think he was also welcoming to the idea of them getting closer, maybe becoming brothers for real.
That’s why I think David was so confused when William came bursting into his penthouse with Vyncent. I don’t think he understood one bit why William was so upset. Other than the news that one of the vigilantes had died, nothing else in his mind had changed. It appears he didn’t even know she did, his people just knew to cover his tracks without needing to be told. He wasn’t keeping it a secret from William, his true lie was in telling William the serum was harmless in the first place. And I think he’s going to stay confused, and I think he’s going to feel betrayed and I know any chances of them ever really being brothers died with Cantrip.
And it breaks my heart for William because he wanted to believe so hard. He was going to split those samples, y’know? He told Vyncent “the board made him do it”. He told David about Ashe. About his fears around Mal. About how he’s afraid being able to drink and feel and live again might all go away. He wanted to have an older brother he could trust so bad. And now one of their only friends is dead, and William killed her, and no amount of logic or rationalisations or leaps of faiths in the world is going to fix that.
William’s haunting speech to David at the end… fuck man. All that rage, all that guilt, all that self hatred William has projected back and forced down the throat, nose, ears of the brother that doesn’t but should. Turning the tool he learnt and used under David’s command back on him.
My thoughts? I think William was doomed the moment he tried to win an argument in that operation room with the older brother he always considered smarter better and more successful than him in every way. There’s nothing more impressionable in the world than a younger brother.
But I also think William might finally stop digging himself deeper, at least for now. How heavily Cantrip’s death weighs on him, Dakota’s reactions, Mal making another appearance, what David and his parents are going to be like after all this… it is all still up in the air.
Fuck man. Ultimately, I still can’t get over that very last line. “I really wanted to have a brother.” Because that’s what it was all about, really. Not being pro hero or anti hero, not a villainous descent nor a sudden morality change… just William hoping his older brother could finally love him.
But David just proved his theory right: that everything that comes from Deadwood is sick and twisted and wrong. Nothing good has ever come from that place. Certainly not David… and certainly not himself, either.
