One night.

It was just one- one night at the old cathedral, the one that the wind whispered against the walls of, and dread made its home in.

It was for her wife, she reminded herself. That was the agreement. Anna got to pick where the ceremony was held, and Molly picked the honeymoon location.

By morning the two of them would be on their way to a beautiful hotel by the beach.

But tonight? Molly was here.

She wasn’t a particularly superstitious or religious person, not like her wife.

Wife, wife, wife.

Thinking about her as her wife was a reassurance. She’d stay in here, in this big, creepy building for her, just until they were wed; she’d do anything for her.

Anna’d always come here as a child, that’s what she’d told Molly. The church wasn’t even used anymore. 

Someone had kept it from falling apart, but done the bare minimum in even that. The night before Molly had to call a cleaning service to clear the dust and grime. It’s not like she would have minded to clean it herself, ordinarily. Cleaning had always been relaxing for her.

But something in here was suffocating. It was watching, and Molly got the feeling it didn’t like her.

She squashed down the feeling.

Her mother-in-law was helping her put on makeup, and carefully braiding and twisting her ash-colored hair back. Molly’s own mother was across the country, and had claimed to be ‘too busy’ to fly out for this. 

She liked her wife’s family, she did. They never seemed too busy for Molly or Anna, and were far more close-knit than her own family.

As she pulled Molly’s hair into a bobby pin, her mother-in-law reminisced about the past.

“You know, we had to drag Anna here as a child every week. She used to be terrified. I’m surprised she wanted to have the reception here.”

“Huh?”

“Don’t move your head!”

“Oh, sorry. But what? She was scared of it? When did she grow out of that?”

“Let’s see..we started going here when she was six, and when she was seven we had to consider finding a new church because her fits would get so bad. She’d beg us not to take her. For a long time, I thought she was just getting upset because she wanted to sleep late.”

“That wasn’t the case.” Molly surmised.

“It wasn’t just..I should have been paying attention to her more. There was real fear there. There wasn’t any kind of youth program here, she was with us the whole service, never out of our sights. Not once. I never did figure out what she was so scared of, but she grew out of it, eventually.”

“She never mentioned any of that. She just..she just said she wanted to see it again. She told me she had to come back.”

She hadn’t seemed afraid. She’d talked about it like it was something nostalgic. The same tone she’d use to tell Molly stories about her time in school or what pets she had when she was little, how they all didn’t really like her, even if she tried her best. Animals always got riled up around her.

“I asked her about it when she called me and told me where the wedding would be.”

“And?”

“She just said she had just stopped being afraid.”

      An hour later, Molly’s father-in-law was walking Anna down the aisle to meet her. The pews of the church were full of close friends and a few family members.

Some of them were getting misty-eyed. Molly felt she should have been emotional- it was an important night. But with each step Anna took closer, Molly’s anxiety built. She wanted to grab her hand and run, run out of here and take her to somewhere safe.

Just as Anna’s mother had told Molly, Anna wasn’t afraid. She was perceptive, and as the old preacher read off the vows, she reached out and squeezed Molly’s hand.

‘It’s okay,’ She mouthed, ‘It’s okay.’

“I do,” She said, a minute later, and both her and the preacher were waiting on Molly. 

Molly realized had zoned out during her own wedding because the feeling of crushing dread was so strong, from one direction now. Molly’s head tilted towards the back doors of the church.

There was a back area to the building she hadn’t explored prior because the people who let them rent the building for the weekend had forbidden it. There were chains on the double doors with a big lock.

And Molly had sworn they had just moved.

It happened like this, in slow motion:

Molly got between the doors and Anna and shoved her behind her, screaming for her to run.

The doors flew off their hinges, sending a rush of musty air across the church, and something ungodly lurched out.

It was pale white, and at least ten feet tall.

It shouldn’t have been able to contort through the doors, not without breaking them apart, but it’s limbs, spindly like tree branches and cracking like bones, rearranged themselves faster than Molly could blink with precision that had intelligence behind it.

It ran at Molly- making a high-pitched screaming, moving far too fast on countless legs. 

It sought her out with no eyes, and Molly didn’t have time to wonder how.

There was a knife by the wedding cake. 

She hadn’t even thought about it, it was instinctual. 

A second later the knife was in Molly’s palm and she launched herself at the abomination, one thought on her mind.

Protect her. Protect Anna.

People ran, screaming out, but the thing wasn’t concerned about them. 

The preacher had started to try to say some prayer, and it barreled through him, covering Molly’s white gown in red. 

It’s maw was open towards her, stretching far too wide.

Molly screamed, plunging the knife into the monster’s skull, her other hand holding its face away from herself, inches from it’s huge teeth. 

She shoved the knife as far in as it would go. 

It’s odd, pale flesh was spongy and putrid, and there was no blood. It shook and pulsed under her. 

It let out a sound like a rattle, before stilling.

Molly took a step back.

“Anna…?” Molly turned. 

Anna was on the ground, still, trembling.

“You weren’t supposed to do that!” 

She was angry, Molly realized. No, she was furious.

“Anna?”

Anna picked herself up, gathering her own dress and breaking into a sprint for the double doors. 

Molly chased her, running around the creature’s corpse. 

She was stopped by the only other person remaining in the church, Anna’s mother. She yanked Molly’s arm so hard it was painful, and in her confusion Molly screamed at her to let her go.

She shook her head firmly.

“Don’t follow.” She warned. “Those doors lead to the basement.”

“But Anna-!”

“I don’t even know if that’s my Anna.”

Her voice cracked with the confession.

“My Anna was so afraid. She cried all the time, she played so loud. Then, one day, she was like a different child. She never once threw a fit, never cried after that, never got too loud, and our family dog at the time..oh, he barked and whined, like he did with strangers.”

Molly took a moment to absorb that.

“Can I ask you something?” Anna’s mother continued. “Have you ever seen her cry?”

In the four years Molly had known her, she hadn’t. She was almost always perfectly composed. Sometimes, she would be frustrated over college papers. She had gotten angry at times, but never at Molly, and she had never, never cried.

“Whatever..whoever that is, she always had to come back here. But you, you can still leave.”

“I don’t understand, but there’s no way I can leave her!”

She looked at Molly and squeezed her eyes shut, nodding.

“I don’t understand either, but I saw how fast you acted. I always thought..but, well, If it’s you, then maybe…”

Her eyes drifted back to where the thing had been. Molly turned. It was gone, just the knife left. 

Somehow, she didn’t feel surprised.

“Take it. Go after her, but know if you choose to, you won’t be able to turn back.”

Molly twisted the knife in her hand, feeling the weight of it. She knew what she had meant. Molly felt it, even if she didn’t truly understand.

“Please find my daughter. Please bring her back to me.”

Down the hall of the double doors, there were stairs that lead into the dark. Molly walked slowly, cautiously. 

There, in the dark basement, was a well with strange symbols along the floor surrounding it.

Anna sat away from Molly, on the edge of it, dangling her feet over the edge and peering into it.

“You came for me.”

“Of course I did.”

She turned and her eyes reflected yellow in the dark.

“You shouldn’t have.”

“You’re my wife. I love you.”

“You never said ‘I do’.”

“Well, I do. There. Besides, your mom is asking for her daughter back, too.”

A smile quirked at the corners of her lips, before she turned back to the edge of the well.

“I’m sorry for both of you, then.”

Her dark hair billowed up as she jumped in. Molly broke into a run, and looked over the side. It was pitch black, impossible to see.

“Anna!”

No reply.

There was a rickety steel ladder on the wall of the well. It felt damp to touch, and the same musty air that had clung to the creature was wafting upwards. 

Molly put the knife between her teeth before following her wife down.

YESSS ANIMALS AND PLANTS AND PRETTY THINGS IS LIKE MY MAIN PURPOSE W MODS ok heres a list w links and brief descriptions so u kinda know whats going on <3 ill kind of categorise them too... 

some laptops seem way better than others at handling mods but i would say just pick and choose ur absolute favorites and if thats too much for it then take one out until its more manageable! my laptop handled mods very well but i dont think i had THIS many on it hadflkjghdfkjlghndklfjhg

ice and fire adds dragons and TONS of like fantasy animals and some scary mobs too!!! u can tame most of the animals and theyre all very unique and SUPER cool! u can ride some of them, theyll fight for u, etc... its very configurable like u can change spawn rates and stuff, i personally turned dragons WAY down so theyre very rare to come across, bc they kill u like instantly and also cause a ton of lag if theres a lot at once, and theyre default spawn rates are ummm too high lol. but yah this is one of the best mods i think ever probably...i love it sm its like a classic

better animal models makes vanilla animals look cuter and better and better animals plus (by the same ppl) adds a bunch of other animals that are rly cute! a lot of them are tameable and theyre very well thought out

genetic animals adds a bunch of dif breeds + colors and new breeding and feeding mechanics to farm animals, its kind of new but very well done but i really really love it! if you use it in conjuncture with better animal models, it replaces to vanilla farm animals but not the wolves and foxes and stuff, so they work very well together. also the chicken babies are like incredibly teeny tiny and adorable. and it lets you be able to ride llamas and cows with saddles and bridles... i could go on (this mod is what i use in place of animania, my favorite mod ever, but that one hasnt updated past 1.12)

alexs mobs also just adds a bunch of new animals, almost all of these are tameable and very unique, i LOVE that it adds crows lol you can also ride some of these animals once u tame them... u can also configure spawn rates for these if theres ones you dont want or want more of, etc. they update pretty often with new animals as well

realistic horse genetics is a super well done mod that makes horses come in wayyyyy more colors, it also has them come in different sizes and stuff...basically what it says in the name but its like. INCREDIBLY well done i couldnt live without it lol

exotic birds adds a ton of pretty birds! it also adds a rare phoenix you can obtain and tame, and ride, which is cool! you can keep birds in birdcages breed them and incubate eggs and all kinds of stuff

making stuff pretty:

biomes o plenty is super popular and really awesome, adds a tonnnn of new biomes with their own trees and wood types and plants and stuff! theres also some cool rare biomes (this mod also works well with all the animal mods); and some other biome mods i kinda cycle between are terraforged (also makes terrain generate better, smoother and stuff and super configurable! this works alongside mods that add biomes) and traverse is good too

macaws roofs, doors, windows, furniture, fences, etc are good for making ur houses pretty! i havent done much w this yet bc i havent built a house since i got it, but it looks really nice

diagonal fences does what it says on the can its suuper convenient and i like it a lot since i make a lot of animal pastures hehe... and it works with custom fences (so if you have macaws fences it will work for those too!)

fairy lights adds paper lanterns and string lights which look way better than torches! also lets u make flag banners and stuff

falling tree lets you chop a tree down in 1 swoop, and automatically destroys the floating leaves so u dont have floating trees and stuff everywhere...might seem cheaty but i like it lol (i also use this in place of dynamic trees, which makes trees BEAUTIFUL but, again, hasnt updated past 1.12)

i also use the unity resource pack (i like this one bc it makes colors more coordinated and muted! my ocd lollll i also like mizunos of courseee) and sildurs vibrant shaders (sildurs is pretty graphics intensive but the lite or medium versions are less so! there are also less intense shaders out there, this is just the one i use)... for shaders to work u need optifine (which also adds dynamic lighting! i.e torches will light the way when you hold them without placing them, stuff like that. its also just good to have, it optimises your game better to prevent lag)

SO YEAH LOL those are all the mods i use rn! some of these have dependents you have to download to make them work (like biomes o plenty requires open terrain generator) but they tell u that on the download pages and stuff, just look out for that <3 also most of these mods have wikis if you wanna know how to tame an animal or crafting recipes and stuff like that, i pretty much keep the wikis open whenever im playing lol. idk how much u know abt the like process of installing mods n stuff but if u need help hmu and ill try to help!

Do you have any tips or pieces of advice for someone who's looking to start up an rp blog for a character? I have plenty of experience roleplaying, but none of it is with tumblr.

lets get the technical stuff out first, make the account for your new blog in advance, before you prepare anything else because tumblr has this anti-bots security system in place which doesnt allow new blog’s posts to show up in the tags (and tags such as #indie rp, #anime rp, #insert show here rp are pretty important in getting ur blog out there). you’ll also have to follow some people, get followed back by at least one, reblog+like some posts before your stuff starts showing up in the tags

of course u can disregard the whole promotion thing and just follow people and wait for them to follow you back, but if u want new people to find you without you actively looking for them, its good to drop something in the rp tag. but again, you dont have to do any of this.

so heres stuff you can prepare (or not, its totally up to you !!)

icons - a relict of dreamwidth era , not necessary but i find that they add some zest to the interactions so personally, im a fan. usually 100px x 100px u can make them fancy or not, your choice. just get some basic facial expressions (but again, you dont NEED them)

themes - some rpers pay a lot of attention to blog themes, i used to be like that but tbh rn i dont think anything beats a nice basic theme w/ a readable font. hit up theme hunter and snag a theme u like !!! OR DON’T, thats totally up to you !!! 

also you can set your blog to dash only in the blog’s settings which means u dont have to bother w/ a theme !! its a popular thing in rpc nowadays !!!

oh and just a hint – id avoid using somebody’s art for icons or elements of theme… i mean sure u can credit them but hardly anybody looks at credits so idk id just avoid it altogether cuz the artists dont like that and theyre absolutely right. i used to use peoples art for icons and i had some artists reach out to me and ask that i dont do that and tbh now i cringe at my past-self for not seeing that its soo disrespectful of the artists

what to put on blog: 

about page - its a page where rpers put some basic information about the character they write as. it can be super important if youre writing as an OC (not many people will follow an OC if they dont know anything about them tbh) !!! if youre writing a canon character u can just resort to filling out a basic dossier (like listing their name, age, whatever… YOU CAN USE THIS and fill out what u like). or you know, do whatever. on cell, i just wrote a piece of Something and linked his wikipedia page lol. do what you feel like, its just a thing in rp community. 

rules page - slightly more important. this is where you set boundaries and introduce yourself ooc. after introductions ur expected to tell people what’s NOT ok by you, for example, you say that godmodding is not ok (godmodding is when people write in their own responses what ur character is doing), maybe shipping is not ok by you, maybe u dont want to write smut ever etc. you put all of that there and any additional info you feel the need to add (for example, asking people to tag certain triggers etc). try to browse other peoples rules pages to get the feel 

verses page - some blogs have a lot of specific verses like idk, an AU in which ur character is evil etc. this is a page where u can put them and add descriptions, UP TO YOU. i find that its less important than about or rules page, focus on those 2 first, especially the rules page bc its what people usually check out first before writing with u!! add verses later !!!

how to start an rp blog: 

OK so lets say you’re prepared and ready to write. i usually post a promo to announce my Arrival to the rp market. take a look at what’s in the indie rp tag for example, just to give you an idea what ppl post there. it used to be REQUIRED to post like… a graphic advertising ur blog but tbh these days u can just drop a text post (preferably with ur icon so that people know which character u write) and you say smth like ‘HELLO, a new (character here) RP blog here!!! like/reblog if youre interested in writing with me!!’ (ofc write whats natural to you, just introduce ur blog in whatever way u feel like it– OR DONT, YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THIS)

BEFORE POSTING A PROMO MAKE SURE YOUR POSTS SHOW UP IN TAGS FIRST. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO FOLLOW SOME PEOPLE FIRST (refer to this) – where to find those rp blogs?? refer to tags below.

what to tag your promo with: remember that only 5 first tags will show up in the search results. so pick some good tags, i think the most important tag is #(show/movie/books name) rp. heres my promo, u can check the tags i used there and come up with your own accordingly. and also browse these tags to find people to follow, like idk, lets say u wanna rp sb from naruto, then u hit up #naruto rp and just scroll and follow ! also avoid using swear words or nsfw words in ur promo bc tumblr will censor it lol

but remember YOU DONT HAVE TO POST A PROMO, THIS IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOU !!!!!

how to start WRITING on an rp blog:

ok so youve gathered some followers, now what. i usually just post a starter call! this is a post that people who want to write with you will like and you in turn will start a thread with them (doesnt have to be IMMEDIATELY, take ur time). you can also reblog rp memes which are like writing prompts people send to you (but i dont recommend starting ur rp blog w/ a memes barrage, people usually want to get to know your blog a little bit more before they send you a prompt). 

you can also wait for other people to post starter calls and then you like them (but check their rules first !!! for example, most people have a rule about being mutuals only, which means they will write you something only if youre following each other back), which also works. 

AND THATS HOW IT GOES !!! you are now writing on an rp blog. remember to take it easy and do what feels natural !!! browse some other rp blogs to get Inspired (but dont just lift things, stealing is a big no-no in the community). do what you feel comfortable with, if you dont want to make icons then dont! you’ll always find somebody who’ll write with you without icons (we just rly like them lol). be patient with others and yourself, read peoples rules, be nice, dont reblog an rp meme without sending a prompt to the person youre reblogging from (thats called reblog karma, if you dont wanna send a prompt then rb from the source), put yourself out there and UHH have fun !

I am trying so hard to find inspiration for graphics, but I just can't. I can't find fonts, textures, ect. that I like, either. I've tried to make graphics before, and I just end up hating them. I don't like how they turn out. Anything you could help with? Thanks!!

in terms of resources i would say dont go looking for something specific?? like if you’re looking for a brushed cursive font etc etc and you need it for something youre making Right At That Second then its just gonna be frustrating when you dont find exactly what u have in your head. i always go looking for resources when im not in the middle of something and its just a matter of scrolling through stuff and downloading everything you think looks remotely nice, even if you have no idea how you’d ever use it. then when you are making something and youre flicking through fonts or whatever its there and it might end up being the right fit, it was just the right fit for something you didnt have in mind at the time

make graphics for stuff u actually like??? like your fav character or your fac video game or whatever, dont waste your time making something for a topic you dont care for or dont have a massive interest in, even if you think you could because it’d be super easy or popular. like yeah i could make 500 captain america graphics easily but do i give a shit about captain america?? i do not. every harley quinn set gets like 2k notes in a day but do i care enough about her to actually have ideas come to me?? nah. i used to make soooo much shit about stuff i didnt really care about it and as soon as i stopped and started making 56 elektra things a day, my stuff got better imo

not liking your stuff is just... inevitable. i could name about 3 of my posts that im completely happy with. and off the top of my head, about 7 that keep me awake at night because what was i thinking!!! but i think actually posting stuff, even if you dont like it, is a good way to kind of develop?? because for starters it’ll give u confidence that people are gonna acknowledge it and like it, even if you dont, and you’ll be more willing to try out new stuff and see what works and what doesnt. because if u never post stuff then youre just gonna end up forcing something to work for yourself n thats a waste of time

a lot of where i get ideas from comes from like... iconography?? like what do you think of when you think of a particular character etc etc?? eg for elektra; sai, roses, red blah blah. maybe think of stuff like that before you go ahead in making something, like... if i was gonna make a nightwing thing i’d think birds and cities and circuses and stuff like that. then u can use all of that garbage to fill in gaps between just basic editing and make it seem more cohesive 

u just gotta go w what............ Feels Right, dont try to force something into a graphic because you saw someone else do it and it looked amazing. like their style might not be yours?? but that doesnt make urs bad. eg people make some amazing pastel stuff but i cant make pastels work for shit

i can go on for days about what works for me but idk if its gonna work for anyone else because imo its a very........... trial and error thing, and realistically i dont know shit!!! but i hope some of this helps??
