A friend recently told me he went off his amphetamine-based ADHD meds because he heard they cause Alzheimer's, which freaked me the absolute fuck out and now I'm too nervous to take mine. Is this something you've heard of/are you aware of any research on the subject? I understand that you aren't a medical authority and cannot give Medical Advice (TM) but reading your various twitter dot com threads about masks, drugs, things of that nature, I have judged you to be a very shrewd and thorough reader of the scientific literature so I thought I'd ask.

no, they absolutely do not "cause alzheimers". there is some evidence that methamphetamine abuse causes an alzheimer's-like form of dementia and increases alzheimer's diagnoses in later life. meth abuse appears to rapidly age the brain, basically. while there are consequences to every single drug including caffeine, moderate amphetamine use without chronic abuse and with adequate sleep, diet, and lifestyle appears to be an extremely low-risk, low-consequence use of drugs. not to be too flip about it but there's a reason adderall (l and r amphetamines) and modafinil (not an amphetamine, but has some overlapping cognitive, alertness and focus-stimulating properties while being much less of a stimulant for more people) have been the med school (and, i have to assume, medical practitioner) drugs of choice for a decade.

there is a massive medical and scientific difference between "use" and "abuse" and they cause extremely different effects in the brain, across all substances. adderall is not methamphetamine. adderall is levo-amphetamine + dextro-amphetamine, which are different molecules than methamphetamine (but are in the same family). even methamphetamine can be a safe medication when not abused, it's just rarely prescribed these days because adderall is a lot more difficult to party with. idk if youre on adderall or what, but the only established connection (as of now, as far as i can find, and as far as i am currently aware) between anything resembling 'adhd meds' and dementia is meth abuse.

many drugs including amphetamines cause something called "neurotoxicity" which is a very broad and scary term that basically means "garbage in the brain". many things cause neurotoxicity including sleep deprivation, a bad diet, lack of exercise, stress, trauma, just being alive and doing tasks every day etc. your body deals with brain garbage the same way it deals with garbage everywhere else: by using the built-in filtration systems we all have (organs like the kidney and liver, the lymphatic system which moves fluid around the body, the basic blood circulatory system, the digestive system, etc) to pick up the trash all over the body and throw it out (via excretion, including breathing, sweat, poop, and pee). this mostly happens when you are asleep, which is one reason you feel so shitty when you're sleep deprived enough, and why not getting enough sleep makes you start to get really, really sick faster than any other lifestyle factor. you dont feel drunk, lose significant cognitive power, or fuck up your immune system after 2 days without exercise or healthy food, but 2 days without sleep makes every human on earth start to really lose it.

there's also a broad hypothesis called Opponent Process Hypothesis which states that if your brain or body get used to functioning with a substance on board, you will get worse at functioning without them and your "baseline" will be worsened. im not sure how this differs from the definition of "addiction" but heres an interesting paper about how doing a lot of speed specifically as a child when your brain is still squishy can possibly mess up your homeostasis (internal balance of systems) later on. i submit this as a curiosity only as i do not have the expertise to know whether the paper is good or accurate or well-researched, and i didn't read the whole thing because im super busy this week, so it might be bullshit. every science paper you read on pubmed or smething? always keep in mind it might be bullshit. this is part of the scientific mindset lol

related to the above: adults over the age of about 25-30 have a lot less to fear from brain-altering chemicals than younger adults and especially children. your brain and personality become significantly less malleable once you're older than about 27. the precise age of neural maturity is a little different for everyone, but very young soft brains have a lot more to fear from long term effects of drugs. im leery about prescribing these drugs to children, and i also think young people are entitled to party but should really try to be moderate substances users if at all (in their own self-interest), but on the other hand i found my ritalin (methylphenidate, not an amphetamine but has some similar functions) very helpful when i was a kid, so i think the jury is out on that one.

neurotoxicity (and tolerance) is why you are recommended to not exceed your prescribed dose and to take regular breaks. two or three days without adderall gives your body time and opportunity to clear out any garbage it may have left behind, and returns your tolerance to baseline (or close to it). we don't currently have any way to get the good effects of things like stimulants and sedatives without "paying for it" with consequences like neurotoxicity or nasty cholinergic pathway stuff for sedatives (this is probably just a physical law and not anything we can fix or overcome even in the long term of scientific progress), but stimulants used in moderation are some of the safest drugs around. abusing stimulants is dangerous as hell, and incredibly damaging to your body, but you can fuck yourself by ingesting too much caffeine too, even in small ways. if you feel fucked up on days you dont get your usual coffee or tea or red bull, congrats, that is a consequence of caffeine addiction. we are probably all pretty different than we would be without caffeine freely available.

furthermore, going off your ADHD meds because of nothing except anxiety, and making your daily function more stressful and difficult as a result, may be worse for your health in the long run. stress is a straight line to disease, which is why people with trauma get sick a lot, and get sicker the older they get. now if you want to stop taking your meds for any reason that's valid and worth exploring, but not because adhd meds cause alzheimer's, because they dont.

most of the "things you hear" about drugs are the end result of a game of telephone from a scientific study of totally unknown veracity, to a headline of totally unknown journalistic integrity, through a series of people who are laymen with no understanding of the chemical or medical mechanisms involved in how the drug works. by the time this "fact" reaches you, it is usually mangled beyond belief or totally false. so i appreciate you taking the time to ask me about it because maybe i can provide some resources to get the confusion cleared up.

not everyone has the time or skillset to read scientific papers but you can also just ask some doctors, starting with the one who prescribed the drug to you. you can call the front desk and say hey, can i get a phone appointment with dr butt or a nurse practitioner, i just need to ask some questions about my medication. most doctors are willing to explain things to you if you ask them, many clinics and practicies have nruse practitioners on staff who can help if the doctor is busy, and it's okay to ask follow up questions like "can you explain it again using simpler language" or "can you explain what [term i didnt understand] is". doctors often will rattle off definitions and explanations of processes from memory from medical school or articles without realizing they're using terminology that a layman doesn't understand. most of the time they aren't doing it on purpose and aren't trying to confuse or dominate you, theyre just on autopilot because they aren't used to patients actually wanting to hear explanations for things. sometimes doctors are just assholes but usually you can just ask nicely and they will explain things.

semi-off topic, when searching PubMed for the terms "amphetamine" and "dementia" to make sure i hadn't missed something, i found a lot of early work on treating dementia and age-related cognitive impairment with amphetamines and other stimulants, which is something ive wondered about for a long time. apparently it works well, which is cool. i think we should stop trying to sedate dementia patients into lassitude and maybe try more to give them some of their brain function back, because ultimately that is going to be the least stressful treatment.

So anyway heres the list of "collection habits i *have*":

Rocks (as stated), mainly trypes of crystal or gem

Round clear orbs NOT marbles with the little swirl inside ONLY clear ones with nothing inside.......

Miniature pieces. Like tiny things. Yes like tiny bread or tiny pots n pans. Yah those.

Pins. Like even bad ones that arent funny.

Scarves. I live in florida. I dont wear scarves. But i collect them. Its a mystery. I like them.

Littlest Pet Shop figures up until very very recently where i tooth and nail forced myself to give them up to give to my younger cousins who are actually young enough to, you know... play with them. Rather than just. Horde them.

Ink and colored inks. Crave more but expensive.

Acrylic Paints. Also expensive so i made myself stop buying it ezpecially since i dont actually paint all that often, but i continue to crave having enough paint to look like a fucking craft store in terms of paint hue options.

Plants. Specifically plants that produce edible product but pollinators are also welcome in my home. This has been a difficult thing to collect because every time we move they die and also it is very hard to keep plants in fucking florida sometimes.

Puzzles. The idle day dream the one day i will collect and put together every puzzle is not only impossible but yet still something i crave doing.

Game achivements. I soent two years tooth and nail trying to get a terrible awful achievement for minigolf perfect game in the fucking Dream Daddy game.

Notebooks. My favorite kind is grid paper notebooks. Spiral, bound, hard cover, sketch, lined....mm...delcious.

Qoutes. I have a notebook of favorite quotes.

My own art work. I have painted exactly 2 (two) ink canvases that i have willingly given away after painting them exclusively to be gifts. And i still fucking regret it.

Sharpies. I steal them if they are near me. I dont ever buy any. I only end up Taking. But i have MANY.

Old Toontown Cards. Im jot like a pricy collector but sometimes i find one at a yard sale and do not Hesitate to get it.

Board games. Want all.

Nail polish. I dont paint my nails: collect anyway.

Wrappers from werthers orginals caramel candies. I had to thrownmine away during the last move........ but i had like 3 boxes at some point.

G2 pilot pens (.7 mm)

Thisbisba weird one, but... house styles? Want to slowly collect accents and designs from different types of archetecture into one house. Build and expand it over time.

Fragrance oil. All of them. Yaaaaa.

Broken glass. I do not collect this because i have common sense.... but i want to.

Ornate eastern hand fans. I do not know why, but it is a passive craving i have had since i was young.

Beads. Duct tape and decorative tape. Paper. Stickers. Whole collections if manga. Whole collections if novel series. Movies and dvds. Every single hard copy disk expansion for the sims 1, 2 and 3. Every single pet in wizard101 and every singly piece of clothing in loveNikki. YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. IF I HAD UNLIMITED MONEY I WOULD JUST DEDICATE WHOLE ROOMS TO EACH COLLECTION OF THINGS. I would have all the things, ALL OF THEM.

Honoka Part 2

Eraserhead and Shifter ran through the Shie Hassaikai Hideout, searching for any sign of the pink haired girl. They scanned every room they could. But saw no sign of Honoka, or Eri. They only hoped the other half of heroes had more luck...

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

"You did what?" The young man practically screamed. Failing to reel in his anger.

"Oh shut it Takahashi, it was good money and she was being a brat like usual." Shigiraki said.

Bakugou and the rest if the League of Villains sat there, watching the exchange between the two villains.

"She's my sister, not some livestock you sick bastard! You cant just sell her just because she doesnt agree with you."

"Oops, well I did it anyways," Shigiraki smirked, "what're you going to do? Try and attack me? You cant even see, much less try to kill me."

Daiki's fist shook with rage. A blinding rage that fueled his entire being. He marched out of the hideout, slamming the door on the way.

Bakugou stared at the door, trying to desperately find a way out so he could rescue the girl whom he had learned as love as a sister. But considering hes surrounded by deadly villains, Honoka would have to wait.

"Dammit! The fucking- he can go to hell." Daiki kicked a can. He looked up, and he knew one thing. He was going to make sure his baby sister would get home safely. Even if it meant that he would disobey his master. He'd do it, for her.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><>

"Noka?" The young girl said.

The bubble gum haired teenager looked at the child in her arms, silently asking her to continue.

"Do you think Deku is coming?"

Honoka sucked in a deep and quick breath. Torn from telling Eri her honest opinion, or telling her the happy answer. She decided a simple "I don't know" would suffice. The young girl nodded her head in disappointment. Honoka's heart broke even more.

"Dammit. Get yourself together Noka. Youre exposed to be a hero, and inspire people, not let them know youre unsure." Noka said to herself.

She then started to let the fear overcome her, "But, I dont know, Im scared, h-he might lash out—"

"Dammit! Noka— you hear yourself? What you need to focus on is Eri, make sure she gets out safe. Dont worry about the germaphobic fucker."

Noka took a shaky breath. And decided right then and there, that she would protect Eri, her well being be dammed. The young girl beside her tightened her grip on Honoka's raggedy shirt dress. They continued to walk on, Honoka trying to come up with a plan to get Eri out of there.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><>

"Togata wait!"

"Lemillion!"

"Lemillion wait—"

"No!" Mirio yelled in frustration. "I can permeate through the walls and get to Eri and Noka the quickest!" Then he disappeared into the wall.

Deku didn't like the idea, but it was either that, or letting Overhaul get away. And there was he was letting that monster get away, not after what he heard what had been done to Eri. And certainly not after he saw Honoka. The broken look in her eyes when she looked behind her, Eri in her arms. The scars, making her look like someone who came straight from a horror film. But, b u t, what made his blood bubble the most. Was the absence of her beautiful brown wings. Deku knew how much Honoka took pride in her wings, how often she would just fly around the campus, just to feel the wind in her feathers. She had said once, that her wings were the only thing that she had to remember her oldest Brother. So the loss of them..... no, Deku couldnt think about that right now. He had to figure out how to break through the walls to catch up to Lemillion.

<><><><><><><><><><><>

Shouta ran, keeping his vision set straight ahead. Trying not to think of what was happening to Eri, or if Mirio was holding up, and he tried to push out any thought about Honoka, cause if he thought about his niece at this moment, he would collapse under all the guilt eating at him.

He instead focused on his nephew, who looked like a mess beside him. Anger rippled off him in waves, so Shouta said, "Calm down, you wont do either of them any good if you lash out in anger." Shirou suddenly blinked, like he was suddenly snapped out of a trance, he took a deep breath and continued running. That was, until their group was stopped by a man with pink hair just like Honoka and Shirou's.

"Daiki" Shouta breathed, not knowing if he should be happy or scared at the appearance of his oldest nephew.

Daiki held his hands up, eyes unfocused and staring in the direction of Shouta's voice. "I mean you no harm, I am only here to rescue Honoka. I could care less about these low lives." Is all he said before turning around and running in the direction of Honoka.

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

"Now dear, darling Noka, dont you want to show your friends what you learned these past two months?" Overhaul said in a sickeningly sweet voice.

Honoka tried to fight the fear, but she was too broken, too weak, done with fighting, so she raised her hand, flames starting to tickle her hands when a voice stopped her.

"NOKAAAAAAAA. FIGHT HIM. WE WERE GOING TO BECOME HEROES RIGHT? I KNOW ITS BEEN TOUGH, BUT YOU NEED TO FIGHT HIM, JUST ONCE MORE, AND THIS NIGHTMARE CAN END." Deku screamed, panicking from she sight of his mentor Sir Nighteye, trying to get Togata and Eri out of danger, processing why one of the league of villain members was fighting Chisaki, and scared of what his friend had gone through.

Honoka's hand shook with fear. What should she do? If she disobeys him, then she'll get hurt. Honoka's breathing started to get short and panicky, until she made eye contact with wide red eyes. Thats right, her main goal was to get Eri out of there, and to do that, she has to stop him-

Flames erupted, a tornado of fire erupting, making the room shake, causing the roof to cave in even more. The heat was intense, not even Endeavor would be able to handle the temperature. Chisaki lunged for Honoka, barely missing her, before her flames died, and she fell over, seemingly unconscious.

"Hmm, I guess we'll need a reset once we get out of here," Overhaul said, proceeding to take off his gloves.

Eri then proceeded to run towards Chisaki, begging him to stop, and that she'll go along with him. He laughed, saying "its easier getting hurt instead of seeing others getting hurt for you."

"E..r..i...... dont......go with him......" Honoka breathed out, barely staying on the tower Chisaki made with his quirk. Somehow Eri hear her over the chaos of Overhaul and Deku screaming.

"B-but what about you?"

"Ill be fine..... I got a plan" Honoka said with an unsure smirk.

Eri then took Lemillion's cape, and jumped off, right into Deku's awaiting arms. Honoka smiled, glad the girl was out of Overhaul's clutches. And then another flame tornado, larger and more powerful than before erupted. The smell of burning flesh and fabric filling the air. Chisaki's screams of agony only barely heard over the roaring of fire. He somehow was able to manipulate the tower of rock enough to drop Honoka to the floor. Not having enough strength, she landed on the ground, several bones cracking. Not before she was slammed against the wall by another wall of rock, forcing her to stay there. Daiki started to crawl to his sister.

Deku stared at his friend in horror, seeing the burned flesh and the large amount of blood. But he soon snapped out of his trance when a large surge of pain surged through him. The source of the agony being Eri's quirk. He then knew he would have to leave Honoka to the other pros, defeating Chisaki and protecting Eri were the top priorties for him at this current moment. And with that, he leapt into a long battle with Overhaul.

"NO THATS MY SISTER— LET ME SEE HER! p-please..."

Honoka couldnt open her eyes, all she knew was that her brother Shirou was there, if only she could moved, then she would envelope her brother in such a big hug. Hell she wished she could even blink, but apparently her body was too exhausted from the battle.

But a certain calm washed over her. Cause even though there were so many uncertainties. She knew one thing.

She was safe. And at this moment, thats all that mattered to her.

After a week and a half of working, designing, and occasionally shrieking bc y'all are amazing, I have completed the DC OCs aka us but like we fight bad guys instead of colds.

This one was incredibly fun to work on and my favorite part was the chest plate / ragged detailing oj the cape/gloves. I dont know why the color scheme works but it does so imma just walk away and pretend I knew what I was doing.

One of the most difficult poses to sketch out. I spent like an hour trying different poses and styles to get it to work properly and OH BOY AM I HAPPY WITH HOW THIS TURNED OUT!!! Thank you a million times over for liking the Red Hood design it just sparked my creativity. This was one of the quickest outfit sketches I did aside from Alacrity's bc something just clicked when you said that. God himself was like '+25 to your next inspiration roll' and I just about died.

I went through so many variations and eventually settled on one that was close enough to my original sketch to be frustrating but different enough to be good. Also, also, I realized it looked oddly like Hawkeye's outift and I cried inside but like.... I still love it okay?

This one was SO FUN TO SKETCH bc the wings had SO MANY POSSIBILITIES to make the whole drawing seem more flowy!! I would never have thought up this design for a superhero alone and I love it to bits. (Also your face took so long to draw bc it had to be R I G HT DANGIT I REFUSE TO GET YOUR FACE WRONG YOU'RE TOO HANDSOME AIIGHT?!?!?) Also youre the ONLY boy here. It's amazing. Also one of the taller people?!??!

This one... Look I dont draw me often. This was a Struggle(tm) and 90% of this was on ghe fly BUT i finally got it done and i like this version MUCH better than the last one!! How much of a Struggle? I spent 2 hours working out a 3 color pallette and altered 2 of them, added 4 more, and didnt use one at all. I'm the tallest one here. It's amazing and hysterical. I'm almost 5'9" and not a single one of you is over 5'5". It's glorious.

IN THIS EPISODE OF MURPHY IS SCREAMING, CONSTANTLY, TRAPPED IN THEIR PERFECT NIGHTMARE:

IT’S BEEN A WHILE HUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but dw offal hunt, like the rising of the sun, the arrival of winter, and the eventual downfall of capitalism, always returns. so lets go.

The place was emptier without Glynda. Quieter.

The subtle warmth of the Dust teased tension from Cinder’s stiff muscles, even as she marvelled at the strangeness of her own bedroom’s space. It seemed bigger now than it had the last two nights.

We had to stop back in because Merc left his favorite binder, and it was 2 in the morning, so it was easier to crash here for the night than mess with the ship’s autopilot.

Stuck here in one of the homes they’d shared, Cinder missed them terribly. Missed the sound of their voices and the easy comfort of their presence. Finding the time to contact them had been difficult, between managing Glynda and Hati both, but Glynda was gone, and she’d sent Hati onwards to Atlas. She remembered her call with Emerald, before arriving in Umbraroot; she knew it had not soothed her or her fears.

im sorry was this chapter targeted at me, specifically, as a human being on planet earth? GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS FAMILY!!!!!!!!! THIS WONKY OLD BANDAGED UP FAMILY UNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! i thrive every time they are mentioned on the page. it is a blessing. my succulents grow stronger each time they show up.

“No,” Cinder argued softly, “I had to. Mercury, you deserve to hear it from me as well. I am sorry. And I am promising you: I’ll come back.”

For a long, heart-wrenching moment, he was completely quiet. It was good that Cinder was alone in the apartment; laying herself bare like this would be unbearable with an audience.

im less picking these for specific instances of like, things i want to say, but more just because bits of this r rly just so /chef kiss. cinder has these.... endearingly (take that whichever way u like) human qualities in OG to rly make u realise she had ties to add to her #Doubt but the remaster is just AMPING it up and u FEEL IT and ive never been more SYMPATHETIC to a round-faced sinnamon bun of assholery and fire id DIE for cinder fall and this is a fact PUT IT ON MY GRAVESTONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Is there anything you need?” What was this? Cinder could barely focus on her words. It felt like... “Anything? At all?”

Cinder couldn’t have said how much time had passed, only that it had passed slowly. What she did know was that it was Glynda returning, the sensation of boils bursting wafting off her soul. It crawled over Cinder’s flesh. She curled in on herself.

There were mites under every nailbed. Salt in her weeping mouth.

offal hunt’s brilliant use of this horror aspect is something i have tried previously to emulate and here’s a fact, take it from me: that shit is HARD. offal hunt consistently able to whack those real nasty, really Disgusting vibes on the head EVERY TIME is a work of art. i mean, kc and diesel do not fuck around, and therefore i am NOT surprised, but it’s only when u try this shit yourself that you realise: this is hard! this is difficult! it’s a huge testament to how GOOD this fic is in every way. also this whole fucking body horror aspect is something i didnt know this fic needed, but it did, and here we are.

so lets like double back to when i said hey was this chapter written to target me specifically and as it turns out, yes. yes it was. yes it was and as MUCH AS I AM LIVING FOR THIS MOMENT THIS SWEET BUILDUP THE EXPLOSION AND THE CRATER IT ALL LEAVES BEHIND

so this next bit is like. i cant really quote one section but as i was saying in Vague DMs, this whole bit feels like wading through mud. usually if you say something consumes energy to Read it’s in a Bad Way when yr bored but this is more like. you Feel cinder all over everything feels so sluggish and it’s like dragging your own corpse around as you try and leave and you’re TIRED and your LEGS HURT and you’re kinda thinking god what if i just fell face down for just a moment of my LIFE.

The putrid weight of Glynda’s soul filled the room until there was no space left for her.

it’s like being trapped in a sauna, like getting stuck in a humid waiting room. where do you GO. what do you DO. god this whole section is fantastic and offal hunt NEVER fails to fucking nail the Vibes but reading it is HARD. i literally keep having to stop and breathe like ive been holding my breath. jesus h christ.

this chapter is probably my favourite so far for this blending of so many elements. i cant even begin to like. THINK STRAIGHT about how all of this is tying together. the lore. the THEMATICS. like i said this character rly is just Rich with what og lacked and oh is it RICH. im gonna read this chapter in future and see so much that i know ive already missed. holy shit.

“Ms. Fall,” she said. “The White Fang requires your presence immediately.”

Cinder stood there looking at it for a moment. Her thoughts were slow. Copper-tinged. Something small and indulgent whispered to her through the blood-fog.

It was obvious enough what would happen if she got into this car. The driver would take her to a secluded place, where she would be ambushed by a squadron of battle-hungry White Fang grunts.

They’d try to take her down. And she was a killer, wasn’t she? Ochre Brown wailed in her ears with every thump of her runaway heart. Her hands itched for action; her teeth, for blood.

She’d burn them black.

never mind! you are already dead,

She thought about Glynda. About her saying that if there was trouble with the Fang, she wanted to come. That she would fight for Cinder.

She thought of Glynda’s question: What aren’t you telling me about Ochre Brown?

this is EASILY my favourite chapter so far. EASILY. everything about this was peak offal. the relationships. the dynamics. the dialogue. the vibes. the Grossness. the fighting. the EVERYTHING. this is some other level and its BITCHIN. PEAK. that said im now very tired. im going to have a cup of tea and Consider Things for a few hours. brb.

Why I like them there’d been no one on his side since he was a lonely scared boy in the palace but it didnt stop him from being there for his people over and over again. he saved his kingdom by listening to his people, the commoners, whom he respected and valued, those lower than him in status, who’d been forgotten, used, ignored and written off. he kicked down nobles to the ground and called them / o u t / in broad daylight left and right. he refused for Anyone to die for his sake regardless of their social status. he was inexperienced, sheltered and unprepared to lead and protect and didnt always have all the answers, yet did what he Could do in the circumstances and Grew into his role of king even if he had to learn the hard way. also l i s t e n hes a handsome noble prince, a skilled swordsman a hero whos all heart and a lil bit of a mischievous shit honestly not only up my alley but down my driveway all the way up to the front DOOR i never a CHANCE your h o n or this was never a fair fight i -

Why I don’t not to be a copy cat but theres also nothing i dont like about chang. even his ~flaws~ only serve to make me love him more. hes naive, idealisitc and emotional. even when he was being a spoiled lil shit in the beginning had its Charms and also added to him as a whole bec i think without that starting point in the beginning of s1, you wouldnt have fully appreciated how much he grew and how far we went at the end of s2. and it made him human. most prince archetypes are either like too campy in their rogueish and r E b e L L i O u S behavior or too Good and Altruistic and Perfect to the point where theyre like too distant and difficult to relate too. i like that chang wasnt always selfless and that he gives in so readily to his emotions. also i love how hes still so clueless and awkward and so Young in the ways of the outside world and so sheltered he knows how to navigate the world of politics and snakes and can cut down zombies left and right but he cant fish hes hopeless outside the palace walls skdhfalsk

Favorite episode (scene if movie) his crowning moment imho is s2ep6 where he specifically told them to choose mu yeongs son over him, told the historians to erase everything he did from the history books. he was willing to let go of what could have been his legacy all to ensure the safety, peace and stability of his kingdom and his people by taking himself out of the narrative, by sparing a life and not wanting power for himself. the haewon cho clan was so obsessed with legacy and power and lineage that they stole a child, murdered women and children, caused a famine and a plague,used the sick and dying to win a war and resurrected and demoralized the kings and innocents bodies and lied and did horrible selfish things in the name of the kingdom to ensure their bloodline. and here comes lee chang who didnt want the throne which is what he was told would be the only thing that wouldve ensured his life and he gave all that up HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Favorite season/movie SEASON 2 hands DOWN. even though it’s also the most cruel season to chang losing all the people he loved one after the other, it was SUCH a sight to see him slowly but surely step UP and fully embrace his role as King. plus so much sword action i just - [ s c r e a m ]

was on the phone w my parents for 1 hour and almost 40 minutes today and on the one hand i think it was good to keep each other up to date on stuff and give them that social interaction they rly crave, but on the other hand i feel so fucking weird abt not saying anything when my mom talked abt having done smth very racist + pro-cop nd i was just so shocked and saddened but also didnt know what to say??

like she is in one of those neighbourhood whatsapp group chats ('buurtpreventie apps') (which are unfortunately rly popular in recent years), in which people from a certain street or flat contact each other to keep an eye on each other aka use it to report random black or arab people to the cops. which she did when two men were in her flat to collect money for charity nd apparently it was a scam bc the permit wasnt for that specific charity that week but just. my mom talking abt how she snitched on them nd the rest of the flat of even older people encouraging that, nd worst of all my mom going 'kijk dit klinkt vast een beetje racistisch maar het waren twee donkere mannen dus we dachten dat dat dezelfde waren als de oplichters waar we over hoorden' HELLO??? 🤢 like i had to say smth but then i fucking didnt bc i was just so weirded out and know how threatening my mom gets when shes criticized. like i just dont know how to get some sense or compassion into her head bc she's blocking it all. she used to be a socialist who even supported anarchists and protest state violence and now she's just.... vaguely in agreement w criticism of class structures but as soon as it's about strictness if tax authorities to the poor, or about racism, her support stops and ppl are criminal to her. it's so tiresome. so im frustrated i didnt say anything but then DID talk the ears if my dad's face by trying to explain where mask skepticism came from nd how the govt and conspiracy theorists were to blame for this and why they do this (money), but i was rambling too much prob nd my dad just doesnt follow anything bc old nd adhd nd former alcoholic (he also didnt understand what memes r which i realized too late after trying to tell him mama sent me a 13 page pdf w bad memes) nd so eventually he noted 'but please don't eh get into the opposite side of these conspiracy theories, believing in other ones' nd im just 🤦‍♂️ i prob sounded fuckingrly incomprehensible nd extreme to him??

he also asked me what i thought of the sylvana simons interview in the interview he gifted me nd i said i liked it but was side eyeing some repeated, rethorical questions she was asked abt 'extremist muslims!!'. he seemed more positive abt BIJ1 / sylvana than my mom who completely discredits them just solely based on the racist general public's treatment of her, whereas my dad seemed kind of curious but also tone policed how sylvana should have not sounded this angry and how he found it strange she kept bringing up 'minorities' and *very confused* ' l.. g... b...t ... q .. uhh'. which is still somehow better than my mom who immediately discredited her political party based on nonsense racists spout for years so i guess the bar is on the ground

nd ALSO me telling my dad contact w my mom is difficult was met w him relativating it by saying my mom is in severe pain bc chronic pains nd illnesses nd even worse lately, shes on her way to become deaf (p much is on one ear nd the other almost) nd was too stubborn to get a hearing aid (but then was more willing to in the end). but anyway his argument is not to be so harsh at mama for being so snappy bc shes in pain nd has bleeding intestines again nd hears these noises bc of her messed up ears so cant sleep etc and then theres just regular back and hip nd knee pains she has bc of deteriorating bones bc medication. like i get thats horrible nd i do get that thats why her moods change so much nd shes so scary to talk to but i dont think thats a reason to never ask her to maybe not say or do smth abusive or bigoted??

like at the time i was happy that they were finally a bit more satisisfied bc i talked to them for a long time but im just really so puzzled on what to say to them when they say smth horrible, like. i feel like i have to try to educate them nd not make them (especially my mom) move further to the right nd to racist rethoric. nd i dont even think her racist views changed that much (though she did luckily, though only somewhat, changed her mind on zwarte piet) but the netherlands is just so behind on shit that even acknowledging racism exists here is incomprehensible to ppl like her and enrages them so much bc its seen as a personal insult. like idk what to say to an old white woman who had threatened to slap me if i ever called her actions racist again, and who clearly believes in cops and antiblackness so much just like the average member of a buurtpreventie app, that calling cops on black men is justified to her. like idk how to change someones mind bc she never listened to me nd only gets aggressive nd i have to stay nice and never confront her actions bc shes in insufferable pain???? what about other disabled people who r in chronical pains and SUFFER bc of racism?? like white disabled people rly get a free pass on being shitty bc of feeling bad but the same mentality isnt applied to poc. like she's rly become a stubborn old adult who doesnt listen to / read what others state unless it doesnt challenge her views or if its on tv or whatsapp groups, nd anything confronting is met w insults or passive agressiveness. like idk how to educate ppl like that bc my parents (esp mom) clearly refuse to be open to that, and they dont use social media nd cant read the same level of english as me so all info has to be in dutch but also everything is seen as a personal insult or 'too elitist' language so i rly dont know what to do. like i want to be more than a fucking ally on only the internet nd maybe 1 or 2 protests per year, but idk how to get through the thick skulls of people 30-40 years older than me who r so hard to communicate w bc they dont get technology, social media, newer language, poc, lgbt stuff, cant read a lot of english nd stop reading at difficult words etc ???

BNHA AU Ideas: Child of Fate (Parts 1 and 2)

TL;DR:

Chosen by the Fates for his many monumental futures, Izuku is gifted a 'quirk' at the age of 5. The ability to see and influence the strings of fate.

He will become a Hero.

But fate does not smile upon a hero any more than it smiles upon a worm.

basically, the 3 fates from norse myths are still kicking

w all the crazy shit that's gone on since the rise of quirks, fates are constantly getting harder and harder to predict or manipulate so they are kinda out of a job

so they say "fuck it, lets throw our hat in the ring" and decide to pick a "champion" of sorts

out of everyone, there is one child that sticks out a lot. he's plain-looking, but every future he's in is incredible. he's not always a good person, but he always brings about change of some sort, for reasons he believes are good ones

and they look at this child with his shining fate and think "this one"

bc the fates know what it's like to be jerked around by the universe, they ask him

"this is a deal we've done before, but we'll give more to you. trade us an eye and our powers will be yours to wield as your quirk, all we ask is that you live up to your fate"

they do the deal, the 4-year-old izuku gives up the sight of one of his eyes for the power of the fates

the quirk is registered as "all the odds" aka: he can see the odds of a certain thing happening

but that's not his quirk. he can see the strings of fate, follow them to see the different future outcomes, or pull at them, making some options more likely than others

the only person he tells the full details of his quirk to is Katsuki, bc the fates tell him he literally always tells Katsuki in the end, and it'll "save a lot of trouble", not that he knows that

Katsuki is very excited to know he becomes a top hero, but he makes Izuku promise that he won't change his future bc he wants to make it there alone

also, the major downside of izukus quirk? he can't see his own fate

and the futures he sees are only as complete as the information he has

ie, he could witness kamino ward, but the future wouldn't show afo or mini might beyond a vague blob

anyway izuku gets teased for his lame quirk for a bit, then stops bc everyone who teases him gets weirdly bad luck

its the fates, they love their baby champion and he said no killing people

but people who are good to him get good luck, so he's got the nickname cat, for black cat and lucky cat!

anyway, episode one kinda happens normalishhh, but he doesn't ask if he can be a hero, because he's going to be a hero, he doesn't care what anyone says, he will be

but when he sees all mights strings of fact he gets a really weird look at them, because something unnatural is holding one of them above the others. so he asks "who tried to seal your fate?" bc he has no brain to mouth filter

and all might, understandably, is confused by this tiny boy asking him a very very weird question

he doesn't even get a chance to go tiny before izuku does dead pale, and whispers "shit" allmight poofs tiny, izuku looks at him, yells "I WONT SAY ANYTHING" and running jumps off the roof. all might coughs up a lung but the kid was 'lucky' and stuck the landing

basically, w the appearance of the sludge villain, the weird fate he saw for katsuki that morning suddenly made a whole lot more sense

the fates guide him to katsuki as fast as they can, he arrives there just before allmight

anyway izuku is calling out for katsuki and lays eyes on someone in the sludge, he doesnt see who it is, he doesnt see their fate. he sees that flash of a hand reaching out for help and he's already leapt over the barrier

he grabs a bit of rubble from the ground and throws it at the villain's eyes, nails him right in the fucking eye, gets katsuki half out. but the villain is baring down again and its all izuku can do to try to keep katsuki's mouth free

allmight saves them

anyway, when izuku is walking home all might pops out of fucking nowhere and gives izuku a heart attack

"I SAID I WONT TELL ANYONE PLEASE DONT HURT ME MR ALL MIGHT SIR"

"KID NO WAIT"

does the: you are so stupidly heroic, do you want to be a hero?, izuku says: i sure fucking do

“whats ur quirk”

"oh funny that its,,, its a little weird."

"oh?"

"i can,,,, see and influence the strings of fate"

"oH THATS WHY YOU SAID THAT WEIRD THING"

"wait yoU JUST THoUghT I wAs CRAZY?"

",,,,, people say weird things around me ok"

anyway all might basically says "ur crazy, your quirk is cool, take one for all."

and izuku says "OK YEAH"

all might asks a little how izuku was going to get into the hero course and he just pauses

"you know i was wondering about that but the fates told me id be fine." they both pause, staring at each other "wait,,, did they,,," "the fates totally knew huh"

anyway he eye glow when he use the fates quirk

all might sees izuku and he's like,,,, its baby nighteye

he honestly, for a hot minute, thinks nighteye might be izukus dad

bc like; green hair, gold eyes (well, eye), smart, analytic? thats nighteye baby

all might asks lowkey like "oh you don't talk much ab ur dad huh?" and izuku explains he doesn't know the guy. all might mentally tells off nighteye for having a child and ditching the mother

todoroki’s question literally is "are you all might and nighteye's illegitimate love child"

and izuku, who has no filter, blinks and responds with

"who said i was illegitimate"

anyway, back to the training

izuku who has been training to be a hero forever is pretty damn fit for a kid, but hes not one for all fit

anyway katsuki is like "izuku why are u following an old man around is he a pedo, and izuku wheezes like "NO OH MY GOD KASTUKI NO" and he explains like,,, a little of it

"like so i might have a strength quirk now too"

"izuku what the fuck why are you so op"

"im sorry katsuki im just better than you l m a o"

"COME HERE U LITTLE S H I T E"

so a brief overview of his quirk:

he gave an eye to use it so one of his eyes is just like,,, white. the whole thing is white. bc,,, its not really a quirk lmao,,,

anyway: he can view the future as much as he wants, it just takes some time, if he wants to take a quick look he doesn't need to stop paying attention, but its two slow and branching to be used like nighteye's in a fight (think like doctor strange in infinity war)

unlike nighteye, he has a third-person view of the events in question, and has,, some sounds? not many. mostly like breaking shit or oneliners he's heard before

changing the future, however, is more difficult by a long way

viewing the future has no real cost other than the fact he's not paying total attention at the time

changing the future, however, causes pain

nerve pain proportional to the change. little things, like flipping a coin heads? to make it more likely, its like a prick of the finger. to make it a 100% chance its like badly stubbing your toe. to change something big, like to move where a blow hits, feels like your arms have been plunged into burning oil. to change something massive, like, to stop something that was almost certain to happen, can cause enough pain to not only render him unconscious but can cause nerve damage leaving him with chronic pain/numbness/lack of function

the pain is normally in his arms bc its izuku and he break he arm

anyway! bc he was fitter and caught a glimpse of gran yelling at him about something called full cowl in the future + he cleaned the beach faster, he has like 2% full cowl for the entrance exam and had the quirk 2 months beforehand

katsuki avoids izuku for the day literally bc he doesn't want izuku to know if he passed before he did. which,,, is fair. he does explain this too so there isn't any random angst, izuku is just nervous

(oh also he can see the fate of someone he's looking at, he can change the fate of an event he's already seen to a different option he's already seen)

so we get the ochako bit, plus a bit of comedy bc katsuki is in a fucking beanie and sunglasses so izuku doesnt recognise him

he totally does but he doesn't say anything bc he's trying real hard

so izuku is kicking some ass in the exam and the bAMN 0 pointer like a fucking b a s t a r d hes like "what's the chances of this thing just like,,, breaking" and unfortunately they are v e r y low

so he is like "well i guess it's punchy time"

but before he gets there he sees a piece of rubble about to hit ochako. and he sees there isn't a small chance of it crushing her leg, so he changes the odds of that and gets a lovely few seconds of burning pain for his trouble

(he’s,,, pretty used to it by now so the boy has a scary pain tolerance)

bc he doesn't want to break his poor arms he jumps up the sides of the robot and tears out some wiring in the back and they start to fall

and he's like "oh shit the chance of my getting hurt is pretty high huh i should change that too" and ochako saves him with her quirk

and then he has a bit of a horrifying realisation while he's trying not to cry from pain

because

his quirk never changed the actions of other people before. ofa made it stronger

but, as he is now understanding, that hurts like a motherfucker, and his not-eye burns too and boy that's really unpleasant

this is another au where shinsou gets in on rescue points from saving katsukis ass + using him to save someone else

katsuki is a little salty but hes like "yeah tbh i really wouldn't have saved them alone, its fine" and then forces him to meet izuku bc hes still a total quirk nerd

izuku drags them + ochako out for ramen bc hes celebrating. shinsou is like "its a little early to celebrate getting in" and izuku just turns looking a lil confused "no im celebrating surviving the exam"

ok so, first day its wild

izuku's quirk is listed as "lucky punch" aka he can see odds and he's strong and no he doesn't know why stop looking at him like that

izuku and katsuki walked to school together bc they are baby and secretly nervous

izuku doesnt really look at katsuki's future all that often bc he doesn't like it, no real deal w izukus quirk he just wants to be successful by himself. so izuku, who can't look into his own future, has no idea how this day is going to go

they rock up to class, get inside and aizawa shows up, izuku has a brief heart attack, the quirk assessment starts. this time aizawa doesnt even have like a problem w izuku he's just trying to prove a point ab them being little baby heroes and sucking ass and izuku looked nice enough not to be mad about it for the rest of the year

so aizawa erases his quirk which, fair and izuku is confused and trying to use it

both of them

but

erasure didn't touch the fate quirk

so when he turns to look at aizawa he gets a face full of the USJ incident and he goes dead pale. aizawa is a touch confused but continues his whole thing, gives izuku his quirk back. he's still shaking. he throws the ball, it goes,,, less than it could have but far enough to be impressive

izuku stands next to katsuki shaking while they wait for the test to end. shinsou and uraraka are kinda distressed and all 3 of them are angry at aizawa even if they have no idea why. izuku bolts from the field right after and throws up in the bathrooms, followed by a quick panic attack. he was so freaked he was using ofa to get there so now uraraka, katsuki and shinsou are trying to find the boy

and aizawa is faintly confused

shinsou finds him first, shaking and sick in the bathroom. he grabs shinsou by the arm and says "staffroom, now." shinsou, who really doesn't know what's going on but is 100% shook, takes him there. he basically has to half carry izuku there bc he can't support himself

they get there and izuku knocks saying "i need to speak to yagi-san, now." and he sounds so scared and the whole office jumps bc why does a kid know allmights name, and all might jumps bc what happened to his boy

so he rushes out, grabs izuku and hurries him into a private office aizawa gives shinsou a look and shinsou just glares at him lmao bc its his fault izuku is like this. even though,, he's not really sure how

anyway, through sobs, izuku explains what he saw

and all might feels sick bc his boy didn't need to see all of that horrific violence, see his teachers torn to shreds and crushed to bits while the other students watch on helplessly

nezu doesn't know the extent of izukus quirk, mostly just because they didn't think ab telling him. they tell him now

aizawa is brought in to see smallmight trying to comfort his poor shaking student, who looks up and him and flinches and aizawa is like "ok guys the fuck did i do" nezu explains and then aizawa feels like a right dick to be honest, not that it was really anyone's fault

then the horrifying implications of "villains inside UA" sinks in and he's suddenly very on edge. now, izukus quirk isn't 100%. he had such a brief look at the vision he doesn't even know how likely it is. and while he offers to take a better look, its clear he really, really doesn't want to, so they all basically say

"right. so. we should probably be pretty careful tomorrow, huh?"

so when the usj attack starts, they have all might with his full 3 hours, mic, aizawa, and 13, w other heroes on standby, they hope, hope, that this wasn't very likely

but

they were wrong.

they were basically praying that the villains wouldn't make it into the usj

they've already altered the fate izuku saw by bringing allmight from the start, and present mic

but its not enough

the villains arrive and shigiraki is angry from the beginning, two unlisted teachers are waiting for them. shigiraki is childish but he's not stupid. he looks at the only child truly rattled, already protecting his friends, and he thinks he's found the cheater

they may not know the children's quirks, but present mic? 13? they know those quirks very well. mic is warped to the ruin zone, too unstable to freely use his quirk. kurogiri sends bakugo, kirishima and jirou after him

All Might is warped right to the nomu, kurogiri and shigiraki on standby for support. 13 has been taken out, aizawa is fighting through the villains to get to the nomu, to maybe offer some support to all might. he doesn't go after mic. he has to believe mic can handle himself or he'll break down where he stands.

izuku is warped to the shipwreck zone. alone. from a quick look at the future, the fates for anyone warped with him were grizly. he is confident in his choice to stop anyone from warping with him. he's ignoring the steadily climbing number of futures where he alone meets a terrible end

he's missing so much information on the villains every future he sees is hazy at best. all he knows is that if he doesn't get off this boat, aizawa gets hurt and that's not something he can abide

he busts the fuel tanks, letting the flammable liquid float across the water. he drops a match. in the chaos, he uses as much of ofa as he dares to jump to the shore. he steadfastly ignores the smell of burning meat.

he is one the opposite shoreline to canon, approaching the fight from the side, rather than the front. aizawa is hurt, battered from various villains, bleeding sluggishly from a headwound. he looks dazed

4 of shigiraki's fingers are wrapped around his neck

all might is at a standstill. if he strikes against the nomu, shigiraki will put his thumb down. he stands there and takes blow after blow, smile long gone from his face

izuku looks at the strings of Aizawa's fate. so many end here in so many ways.

he pushes his quirk into getting shigiraki away from his teacher. without direction, he's just baring against his quirk, begging it to give him a chance.

it does.

the bright flash of an explosive blonde draws the eyes of kurogiri and shigiraki. he uses the moment of distraction to launch towards his teacher, yanking him from shigiraki's hand. he loses a large chunk of skin for his trouble

all might defeats the nomu, but hes not looking good

bakugo, a limping mic, dazed aizawa, battered all might and bleeding izuku are the last stand, all praying the other students are ok.

iida did not escape

they have no backup coming.

shigiraki is fuming, but kurogiri can see the heroes are flagging. izuku is putting his all into his quirk, trying to give them all a lucky break

for the second time, it comes through

the rest of the students run towards them, joining them shoulder to shoulder. all of them are scared, some are hurt, but none of them are going to lay down and let shigiraki win. the villains escape

izuku falls

damages:

aizawa has a concussion + post-concussion syndrome. he has chronic migraines for the next year, and trouble with his long term memory for a few months

izuku is suffering from massive quirk overuse, his hands don't feel 'right' again for weeks

all might has lost only 20 minutes, but it's time he'd rather have

mic broke an ankle, but it's quickly fixed. Still, it aches from time to time

the other students had mild cuts/bruises and were left shaken

aizawa cries that night. a mix of the head injury, his hurt students, the look of fear he saw in their eyes. he holds mic and he sobs

izuku and his mother had a real relationship breakdown when she tore down his dream, even when izuku got a 'quirk' it never recovered. they don't talk. he doesn't tell her what happened. she doesn't find out.

izuku wanders the city the next day, unwilling to explain why he had no school today. he runs into mic who takes one look at this shaken student, outside and unprotected, and basically kidnaps the guy

izuku is forcibly dragged to the place mic/shinsou/aizawa share

when shinsou and aizawa find out izuku's mother basically just sent him off to school, not taking a day off work? they go full protective mode. shinsou wraps him up in the biggest blanket they own, grabs his own and forces izuku to play videogames with him on the couch. aizawa fumes in the kitchen over a cup of hot chocolate, mic fumes with him honestly

so, izukus kinda a mess, never tells his mother anything, etc, aizawa kidnapped him and he and shinsou played video games. izuku didn't go home that night, he just hopped on a train and rode it until it was time to go to UA

so when they get back everyone is just glad so see izuku alive tbh

so, sports festival! its a lot like canon

izuku doesn't use his fate quirk to change the future, but he does look at the possible futures and he sees that iida never makes it to the podium. he thinks for a second and makes a horrible realisation

the hero killer is in hosu

iida's brother is in hosu

iida’s brother is a hero

just before the event starts he finds aizawa and he's pale already

he gets out 'i need to see allmight' and aizawa gets a horrible feeling because last time this kid was worried they all almost died, so they run to find all might. seeing aizawa run around with a concerned look on his face? the stuff of nightmares at UA. everyone practically dives out of their way

izuku tells all might who swears a blue streak and pulls some strings to get extra heroes in hosu. izuku doesn't breathe a word to iida, because he just can't. not only does iida not know about the fate quirk, he can't scare him like that

bakugo knows something is wrong, but izuku won't breathe a word so he lets it lie

anyway, todoroki does his lil speech and izuku is honestly too burnt out to be intimidated, he sees his own death daily during just casual use of his quirk. boi ain't scared of much. bakugo gets pissy bc "FUCK YOU HALF AND HALF THAT'S MY RIVAL" and basically all of 1A is trying to claim izuku as their rival, either out of admiration or the desire to annoy bakugo

so izuku has to give the speech. which he's not happy ab because p e o p l e

and also because well,,, he's got no one at home to watch him

his speech basically goes along the lines of "we are here to fight fate. the odds are against us but we will win no matter what. not because it's easy, but because we have to. no matter what course we are in, we are all at this school fighting for a better future, for ourselves, our loved ones and the world. it doesn't matter if the odds aren't in your favour - the chance of any of us being here to see this moment is so small it may as well be impossible. its nothing to beat those odds again."

and everyone is like "owo how inspirational" but like anyone who knows him sees,,, layers

aizawa sees the bitterness about the USJ

all might sees izuku reducing his fight to be a hero as a quirk of fate, reducing his own involvement to 'it could have happened to anyone' when thats not true, because he is special

katsuki sees the bitterness that even though he had a good quirk, people tried to grind him into dust because he couldn't talk about it.

if inko was watching, she'd see how badly she betrayed her son

Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sprx and Gibson!!!!!!!!! Season 1+2 vs 3+4

okay im finally in the Mood again. okay. okay

sparx and gibson. have literally one of my favorite relationships in the show, theyre SO fun every time theyre onscreen together. they love each other so much bro

i realized after my 3.7k gibotto meta that writing a huge analysis like that will literally fucking kill me, but this is probably still gonna be long anyways!

sparx and gibson are... honestly pretty similar to sparx and nova in how they tease each other a lot, but really do care for each other. however, where sparx and nova have... a LOT of trouble just TELLING EACH OTHER how they feel, sparx and gibson... dont actually have that kind of trouble? its more that they respect and trust each other but dont say it because their relationship consists so much of making fun of each other.

doing a seasons 1/2 vs 3/4 thing is kind of difficult, mostly because (sort of like gibotto) theres no real turning point in their relationship, more that they just. learn to openly trust each other more

trust is a big thing with these two, i think? i just. they have almost completely unwavering faith in each others skills! even when theyre arguing over who should lead in the savage lands, theyre not insulting each others abilities at all! theyre just arguing over whose abilities are more valuable at the moment.

like, early on you... REALLY cant see this. mostly season one. but. heh. hehe. swivels my gaze over to hidden fortress. “if gibson says itll work, then thats good enough for me.” “oh, why- thank you, sparx.” BRO!!!! “big brain. glad you could make it.” “yes, well, someone had to pull your fur out of the fire!” BRO!!!!!!!!!

like, even this early on you can see that. once sparx is done teasing gibson for being a smartass, he has SO MUCH RESPECT FOR HIM!! and likewise with gibson!! as soon as theyre finally able to go “hey, we dont need to be angry with each other for a god damn minute” theyre just. so fucking fond bro!!

not to talk abt dumb stuff like character arcs but. lol. their relationship transfers so smoothly from bickering to just- genuine affection and fondness as their characters grow! see that as sparx learns to be more open with his feelings and not always default to the teasing/nonchalant persona (especially with nova) he stops going for gibsons throat all the time, and- gasp!- actively appears to care about him and goes out of his way to ask gibson for help or to help him.

its been days and i literally cannot stop thinking abt this shot like.... novas finally back shes BACK and she just got shrunk by tv monster and sparx is going to help GIBSON up???? i cant believe this motherfucker

and yknow, over the course of the show their teasing goes from resentment (ie ape new world- “oh, that explains it doctor brain strain. wuh-huh.”) to more just. fun and friendly! brief moments of smugness rather than actual malice towards the other

like come on.. this is the cutest shit.

sparx tends to tease gibson because he just- straight up doesnt understand what hes sayin sometimes! gibson is. EXTREMELY fucking pretentious. and sparx hates it. i mean who wouldnt?? but! sparx knows that the reason gibson is so pretentious is because he DOES know what the fuck hes talking about. sparx knows gibsons The Smart One and even though he can be bratty about it he still acknowledges it just fine

and like, eventually that distaste/resentment on sparxs end morphs into just. plain old trust! sparx trusts gibson and he knows that gibson can think on his feet and give them a solid plan. like, theyre put in several life-threatening situations and sparx is immediately like, hey, yknow who would know what to do? gibson.

gibson, likewise, cares about sparx a LOT! like. ive said it a million times but gibson views pretty much everyone as inferior to him bc of his intellect. wspecially sparx and otto! and ESPECIALLY SPARX bc every time gibson says something smart sparx makes fun of him. and up until hidden fortress, small tender things like “‘course i can grab him. i hope i can grab him.” in thingy were Not Heard by gibson. so gibson was very pleasantly surprised when in hidden fortress sparx let his guard down for a moment to be like “yeah, gibsons the smartest, i trust his judgement.”

and eventually, theyre just. buds! theyre straight up buds. gibson teases sparx in return and theyre just. BRO THEY R FRIENDS!!!!

“as you would say, sparx- ive got your back!” HRHRHRNGNNFND!!!!!

like. i CANNOT emphasize enough how supportive nd empathetic they are towards each other by the end. or, well.... earlier, its more sparx showing that he trusts gibson, and then later, its more gibson giving sparx more reason to trust him! its gibson being fun and friendly (as shown above) in response to sparx showing him that “hey, i dont actually hate you that much.” like.... need i remind you that in fire of hate, gibson warns sparx to be careful before touching it. in soul of evil, during the final scene with sparx tearing up nova, gibsons the only one who still looks sympathetic to him!! thats love bitch!!

so like. gibson and sparx are EXTREMELY fond of each other and once the gate is open for them to realize they both trust and like each other they finally start acting like it! they go from genuine distaste for each other to unregulated fondness and well i just think thats very cute and epic of them :]
