I seem to be consistently passing without a binder now which is insane. Would not have guessed that would be possible like, a year ago. Facial hair makes a really big difference I guess? I - and I'm not exaggerating - and every friend I've brought to this game (XIV) have been so severely sexually harassed (either openly or via DMs) that we've all quit. I'm the only one willing to come back to XIV (at least two of them said fuck it and gave up houses they won before the lotto change, too) - and these are RP friends I've had for a decade, some of them, and they're so scarred from being so badly and so frequently sexually harassed in XIV that they don't RP at all in any game, anymore (my gay roommate had to take 'gay' out of his OC info to get people to stop whispering him things that amounted to molestation - no one should have to hide their identity to avoid unwanted harassment of any kind).

The only people to reach out to me over the 4 years I've played - besides about 6 people who actually just wanted to write story? - have all been grotesque attempts to convince me to change my sex-repulsed character's mind. Jak was a prisoner in a nazi internment camp and came out riddled with trauma, and people would still - even knowing this - insist she suddenly not have trauma so she'd screw them... and then ghost me when they couldn't force me/the oc to ERP.

At the end of the day, idgaf what people do with their time. I just don't consent to having it forced on me. I'm as much a perv as anyone, and know my shit in the D/s community, etc. And no means no. You also don't walk up and whisper-emote touching someone intimately without their permission. You don't keep pushing for ERP when someone makes it clear they don't want it.

People need to be open and clear in what they're seeking from RP - or it not only wastes everyone's time, but causes legitimate permanent harm. So it’s never as blatant as “we hate him for being a gay man” it’s the language used. Calling him creepy, or gross, or a predator, or a groomer, or poisonous, or insisting that he’s sexually harassing Buck when he’s literally just flirting. The way they misinterpret every scene to say that Tommy doesn’t ACTUALLY have feelings for Buck and that he’s just a pervert in it for the sex. The way they gleefully imagine killing him in the most violent ways possible for the sole reason that he is dating Buck. Saying any gay man that is like Tommy sucks. Not only that, but Pressure is a passion-project. Amazing features that enrich gameplay and world building such as Sebastian killing walldwellers and the DiVine being able to kill you, Navi-AI turning into a new character, and several new room types are hinted to come to Pressure but nooo!!! So this ask is almost a year old and I am VERY sorry to the anon who sent it, but it's also interesting to me to consider how things have changed in that time. I got this a couple weeks after Imogen/Laudna became canon and I had been subject to some stan harassment because I disliked it, and after a bit of conversation about the whole thing I just shrugged and moved on. And yet for a not-insignificant portion of the ship's fandom, it feels as though everything that has happened between Imogen and Laudna since then has been just...quietly ignored. (I distinctly recall one of the hateful anons I received lecturing me about how "Im*dna is the heart of the campaign", and uh...how you doin these days, bud?)

Like, I've very recently blocked the majority of loud stan voices on Twitter, but it's telling to me that so many people proclaim to be these deranged fanatics about the ship and yet hardly acknowledge anything that's happened. And it could be that it's because prior to episode 89 nothing interesting had happened, but they still had moments; they had that dance on the pirate ship and the lap pillow and the comforting after the shard incident. But you'd hardly even know those moments happened—everyone's pfp is still a screenshot of Laura from episode 65, the bios all still read #IMOGENTEMULT: "can i kiss you?", and all the fanart is generic hugs or kisses and the occasional buff cowboy Imogen with damsel Laudna. So many emoji combinations include the ring when it's been referenced more often out of game than in it!

And meanwhile, the people who were vocally critical of the ship—many of whom, I think it bears observing, are queer women, women of color, neurodivergent women, or some combination thereof—have been having the time of our lives ever since 3x89 and especially 3x95. We've been asking for conflict the whole time and finally got it and surprise! We're enjoying ourselves! I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone in this corner who's turned into a classic OTP-type shipper, but we're engaging with this narrative and are interested in where it goes because it finally gave us something to do. We're also focused on everything else in the campaign, because it has an intriguing plot, an engaging villain, fun worldbuilding, and five other interesting protagonists.

If you got into the campaign because you wanted to watch a good story, you may have had trouble in the beginning, but if you stuck it out you're probably having a good time vibing with the moon. But if you got into this campaign because you thought the most important thing in the world was making sure Imogen and Laudna end up in their skinnyass white girl cottage baking cookies and shopping for Zhudanna and exchanging the uwu softest of kisses and handholds? You'd probably like very much for the campaign to have ended in July 2023. But it hasn't, and I think the campaign rather forcefully demonstrating once again that it is out of the audience's control is a disquieting thought in those circles. And if you're the type of person who felt Imogen and Laudna's constant fawning and inability to have uncomfortable conversations was not only romantic but aspirational, you're not likely to want to sit with disquieting thoughts.

hey by the way I don't know who needs to hear this but harassment isn't criticism. I see people in youtube shorts comments sections (which is basically its own circle of hell tbh) just straight up cyberbullying people all the time and I saw one comment in a flood of fatphobic harassment targeting a girl who makes fashion videos that was like "I see she's blocking ppl who criticize her again, how confident" and it's like.... where's the criticism. point me to it. show me any constructive, balanced advice here. All I see is a bunch of 14 year olds and millenials who peaked in high school and can't cope going "EWWWWW SHES TOO FAT FOR THIS OUTFIT". On that note as well, being confident in who you are and your values as a person does not mean you have to listen to weirdos online who want to shit on you for it. It's not hypocritical to say that you're confident while also valuing your time enough to not allow complete strangers online to waste it.

in the past year i realized online leftists care more abt identity politics & having the most ~radical~ opinion than actually helping ppl. 90% of the (((zionists))) they're harassing support a two-state solution & want an end to the ceasefire. but instead of working together to help Gaza they're arguing abt the historical roots of (((zionism))). Why does it matter? Israel isn't going anywhere & you're not helping anyone by arguing that it shouldn't exist. Same w/ Harris. Any time someone pointed out that she was considered too easy on crime as a DA ppl say "it doesn't matter she still sent ppl to prison!" It matters A LOT to the ppl who got lighter sentences under Harris than they would under a different DA. The same w/ police reform, most ppl support it, but bc they didn't like terms like "defund the police" leftists pushed them out. I don't care what you call your movement! If you can improve people's lives TODAY isn't that worth conceding some incendiary buzzwords?

It's so obvious online leftists are spearheaded by ppl who aren't actually affected by any of this. People's lives are literally at stake & they'd rather fantasize abt their glorious post-revolution utopia that will never happen instead of actually improving the world.
