got prompted by seeing a horrible Billy-lover take in my notes so feel free to ignore this, just me ranting about Billy's character and how all this apologism is genuinely infuriating to me

because the treatment Billy gets in fandom is so incredibly bizarre to me, especially because it ruins the actual intrigue his character has. when i first watched the show and didn't get involved with the fandom a few years ago i actually thought Billy was quite an interesting character because it was a realistic portrayal of a horrible person.

he was abusive towards his sister and a raging racist, an absolute piece of shit. but i think it's interesting that the show doesn't just turn him into a one dimensional cartoonish monster, he's one of the human characters after all. so there IS some human aspects we can see, some black and white. like how he also has an abusive relationship with his father and how genuinely scared he was by what the MF was doing to him in s3 (also leading to his death)

because that was Interesting to me. irl horrible racists and pieces of shit are still human. they're also scared of things like spiders or are scared of monsters etc. and so many properties make the mistake of portraying the "bad guy" like an evil caricature. like a guy you can see coming down the block and you already know he's evil without ever talking to him

and that portrayal is so SO dangerous. there's real people today that struggle with picking up on irl racists or homophobes or nazis Because the person doesn't seem cartoonishly evil the way they were taught they Should look like

i'm from a german speaking country and we spend multiple years of our school time going over ww2 over and over again, and something that my teacher kept bringing up is how dangerous some of the education regarding it can actually be. there's this very easy trap you can fall into where you ignore the horrible people's humanity. where hitler just becomes a cartoonishly evil monster you learn about in history class, that you would immediately recognize as such would you meet him irl. when in reality, he was human, which was the whole danger. because today there's multiple politicians i know that are emulating his views and rethoric, but since so many people struggle to recognize that Anyone could be a nazi, and that it's not something you can just "see" like in movies, it's largely ignored. the whole danger that hitler Was just a regular politician at some point and superficially blended in to the mix of other right wingers at the time is often forgotten because people think you should be able to recognize a monster on sight

and that boils down to the problem i often have with books and shows. the bad guy is just... bad. there's no realism there no nuance. when the real danger actually is that you often Don't recognize a monster, or that you do but other people don't believe you because the monster looks normal and human enough. and real people's views often get twisted as a result, to the point where they expect to be able to "clock" real life horrible people just by looking at them, because it has to be obvious right? if a person's only personality trait isn't violent homophobia or racism and they have real fears and wishes, then people often don't recognize how horrible they really are, or don't Want to

and that's what i originally actually enjoyed about what happened with Billy. most people in their school either didn't pick up on it or didn't care about his views, he was actually quite popular. and there is depth to him, it's just that he's still a horrible person regardless. the abuse shown in his family maybe explains things to some degree but it doesn't excuse anything. he torments Lucas specifically because he's black, even the actors and showrunners have spoken out about this by now. and he never makes amends for anything, doesn't even try to change, there's no actions he takes to improve. he lives and dies a racist. he dies scared, yes. but he's still just as racist and abusive as he was when he walked into the show. he doesn't even apologize to Lucas or even Max. he is and stays a racist, no matter how "human" he gets to be, because some humans are just horrible people, see Billy

so now imagine my disappointment when i actually joined the fandom and had to realize that that Wasn't the popular opinion and that the irl phenomena of "but he's scared/he was abused/he's just a kid he can't be a bad person" still happened here. the actual nuance of his character is Gone the moment you start trying to apologize for his actions

he's a walking red flag of how not every monster Looks like a monster. how monsters can have friends, be poplar, be scared. but despite all the things that make him human and that might make you sympathize with a person, he still chooses to be a vile and horrible person regardless. and now in order to "redeem" Billy's character people are making that exact same real life mistake that is so so dangerous irl, where you only see the human aspects of a character and then go "but they're (insert a thing that shows you that they're human) they can't be a horrible person, it was a mistake/misunderstanding/he changed"

it essentially boils down to me originally being interested in Billy's portrayal in the show because he's one of the few examples where monsters aren't portrayed as one dimensional evil guy number xyz. which, in a show filled with real supernatural monsters, getting a guy who acts like a monster but looks like just an ordinary guy is all the more scary. because that is a REALISTIC monster

so then seeing that there's so many people dead set on apologizing all of his actions because they bought into all the things that make him human, but don't realize that that's the Point, that people can be human and still Horrible. is just endlessly frustrating to me

I have a personal beef with them. And not because I love Hazbin and Vivzie so much but for more presonal reasons so the following opinion won't be measured at all.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are some legit criticisms out there. Like, the show could definitely do better with body diversity and giving us more varied sapphic relationships instead of just throwing a ton of male/male couples at us. And, yeah, Vivzie's response to some of the criticism has been... questionable. (I still cringe when I think about that one time she explained that Raphielle can ship ValAngel because they are sa survivor, but Raphielle explicitly admitted to not be one).

But then, there's stuff that's just... pulled out of nowhere. Like the whole thing about Valentino being a "fetish character." Come on, the world of villains is filled with queer, flamboyant baddies. What sets Valentino apart is how his abusive behavior is shown in the open, making us rethink our love for villains. If it weren't for Mascarade, people would worship this moth daddy gangster in a dress, much like they are with Vox now. It's hard to root for the bad guy when you see the fallout of their actions. Like, Loki committed war crimes and no one was outraged when he got his own TV series and dragged creators for supporting atrocities.

Constant Valentino/Angel Dust discourse actually leads to the more serious issues I have with this "community", more harmful than just "bad media literacy" like the way they handle the topic of sexual abuse and weaponize it, without ever listening to victims. There is this constant shitstorm about Angel being a "bad sa survivor rep," that the way he's written is insensitive because "he shouldn't be horny, he's sexually traumatized." Like, do these people not understand that making Angel unable to enjoy his sexuality the way he wants would essentially mean acknowledging that it's no longer his but belongs to his abuser now? Also, the argument I keep seeing that drives me BAT SHIT CRAZY aka "I can enjoy this media that is centered around murderer, you cannot enjoy the media that treats rapist as a nuanced character because rape is objectively worse than murder." WHO THE FUCK TOLD YOU THAT? Reading this makes me feel so angry and sad and guilty because frankly, I was raped, and of course, it was horrible but still I'd choose it any time over being murdered. Because I have my life, I'm loved, and I love, I pursue my dreams, and I can still experience so many good things in my life. Painting sexual assault as this worse-than-death experience is not the feminist take they think it is and does not do victims any good.

Or accusations that Vivzie's support of fandom bullying led to someone taking their life. It's such a ridiculous and harmful claim. Honestly, this thing always makes me heated because suicide is not an easy decision, ask any person who ever faced it. It's not like "ah, this stranger told me to kms, I guess I gotta do it now." Of course, any kind of bullying and abuse adds to the suffering and can be the final trigger, but to me, it's just so disrespectful and harmful that someone could have experienced prolonged, intense suffering and all of this is omitted, their death labeled as a result of "fandom bullying" and weaponized in fandom drama. Also, it's simply cruel to put the blame for it on one, uninvolved person.

Also, it always annoys me when people hold small creators to immensely high standards while not doing the same with others. If we keep lynching and canceling every media that is not objectively morally pure, we won't be left with only perfect media. We will be left with media produced by white, privileged billionaires who might be real-life rapists, abusers, and thieves but are too powerful to be taken down by social media outrage. Hazbin's success is a major W for the underappreciated medium of animation (we saw what WB did to 90% of their animated shows), unpopular genres like musicals (Wonka creators were literally too ashamed to market it as one??), and unapologetic queer narratives that are not written for a heteronormative audience or centered around queer oppression (ofmd, the other medium I can think of in that realm has just been canceled). I can't stand people so desperate to put it down driven by their black-or-white sense of morality. Kant won't be patting your back for being the Moraliest Person because you bullied an indie creator and her fans.

Also everyone who feels the need to explain me hazbin critical agenda - save your breath. I'm very emotional about it and I frankly don't fucking care why you think you are right.

so i received a pretty aggressive anon message earlier about the sanhwa scene in TNT... and i already deleted it because honestly i found it fairly offensive, but to that anon if you're reading this.... not cool. i understand that not all people are into m/m fic... but telling me it was ruining the fic and that i should have been clearer about tagging and warnings? it's genuinely been bothering me all day and kind of offending me. i write m/m pairings as part of my work all the time - you can see it in aurora, and definitely in my husbands series (fucking obviously).... and it's going to keep happening.

while i would never assume the real members sexualities (it's obviously none of our business), these are fictional characters and representations. they can be whatever i want them to be IN FICTION. if that offends you or troubles you or isn't sending the plot in the way you want, go find something else to read.

i also should not have to mark an m/m relationship in a fic with the same severity as a trigger warning. it isn't triggering, it's a relationship pairing. if you prefer other pairings, go elsewhere, but don't expect me to bend over backwards in my work on my blog to make queerness palatable for you.

this combined with some frankly rude messages on ao3 are just doing me in today. i understand that not everyone wanted to go down the woosanhwa road, but i wrote this fic for me and that's what i wanted. their relationship is meant as an intentional foil for yungi, the heats are supposed to be starkly different to help the MC understand herself and her feelings. y/n isn't perfect nor are any of the other characters and that's the fun of it. if you just want smut, find one-shots to read.

i just want to remind people that if you're writing comments on ao3, putting comments in your tumblr reblogs, etc., the author is going to read them!! be kind. if you don't like something, stop reading. your constructive criticism / helpful suggestions aren't necessary, they're rude. i'm not a published author, i'm a random on the internet posting fic for free, i don't want or need your negativity or your supposed help. you need to get a hobby or try writing something yourself.

anyways that's it. i'm kind of shocked at how negative a few of y'all have been given how overwhelmingly kind and positive everyone else has been. but i'm beyond shocked at the thinly veiled homophobia in my ask box earlier. what you said you said to a queer person and it hurt, and very quietly i'd like to ask you to do better and to not message me like that ever again.

Some thoughts on "Hell is Forever"

Hell is Forever is a bop. Musically I enjoy it a lot. And It's definitley one I'll go listen to separatelyfrom the others on occasion.

But

It is also probably the song that bothers me the most. And it does not bother me in a way I like. I've talked about before, how I like things that poke at my beliefs and make me ask questions. This one doesn't do that. This song is like a buzzing fly to my inner-theologian, and I think I figured out why (Ironically it might also be one of the reasons I enjoy it)

So I've been working on some of my series type content lately, including my devos. I'm trying to make a series based on the Hazbin songs (if that is something you're interested in let me know in the comments and I will try to tag you when I start posting them). Naturally this includes Hell is Forever.

The thing about Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss is that by their very nature they include some theology, but a good portion of it is hellaverse-ified. Some of it is theology and some Christian lore. It's part of the draw. Here's the diffrence between Hell is Forever, and most of the rest of it: Hell is Forever addresses real Theology, more or less directly. I'd say more than, possibly, any other part of either show so far.

Now before I go any farther let's make sure we all have the same definitions so my meaning doesn't get mixed up.

Real Theology= Theology actually believed by a fair portion of people.

Good Theology= Theology that is grounded and has biblical backing.

Bad Theology= Opposite of Good Theology

So yes, Hell is Forever has Real Theology. Here's the thing that gets me though: I wouldn't consider most of it Good Theology. In fact I would consider most of it Bad Theology.

Now the thing with Theology is that our interpretation of it is flawed. We don't know a lot and we don't agree on a lot. That's why there are tens of thousands of denominations. But the particular brand we get in this song is what I'm going to call "Bible Thumper Theology." Not all Bible Thumper Theology is necessarily Bad Theology, but plenty of it is. But honestly I have three major issues with Bible Thumper Theology. First is that it's weaponized. Whether your Theology is good or bad, using it as a weapon is risky business. Second, it's often pretty weak. Even if the theological concept is solid, their understanding of it is usually surface level at best. And third, so much of it is just cherry picking.

So here are the main theological points I identified in Hell is Forever. I'm not going to go deep into them now, because that would make this already long post way to long, and because I'm already planning on making posts specifically on them.

Hell is forever (Obviously)

Eye for an eye Theology (I don't know what else to call it)

Justification by the law (or works)

Justified k1ll1ng (which is obviously super yikes)

Now there are few others in there too, but I'd say these are the main ones. As I said I'm plannin to address these more later, though the first one, I'm still waffling on whether I want to tackle that or not. The primary reason being that I do believe eternal damnation is eternal (as much as I wish I didn't), however I am not going to join the fire and brimstone brigade. There are too many of them all ready. If I do tackle it, it will probably be about why I take issue with the fire and brimstone brigade.

But yes all that to say, Hell is Forever bothers me because it's essentially just Bible Thumper Theology, and Bible Thumper Theology annoys me because it's what makes the church as a whole look bad, and usually it is pretty Bad Theology.

Honestly most of the time someone starts spewing this kind of stuff at me, I can't help but think "Have you read your Bible, or do you just believe what your pastor tells you?" Is my theology flawless? Not a chance (If anyone ever says their's is, approach with extreme caution, or better yet don't approach at all). I am seeking and trying to sort out what I believe. And I'm growing.

Ironically, I think part of the thing I like about Hell is Forever is that the people spewing the bullshit are the villains. I have too often seen them up on a pedestal.

I've been wanting to make this audio for so long. While I've left it ambiguous enough to be enjoyed as an original audio, this character is actually from my favourite musical 'Elisabeth das Musical'. It's a German-language dark queer historical romance where Death (Der Tod) is drawn to those who think about him, in particular it follows the life of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, and her son Rudolf. The musical does deal with serious mental health topics and some historical events from that time including the rise of fascism so please know that going in, but if you think you can handle such topics then I couldn't recommend the musical enough. 

The original 1992 Vienna production is on Youtube with English subtitles, that is my favourite production and means a lot to me as Uwe Kroger as Death is just... perfection to me, very much gender envy and has been a big influence on me and helped me with accepting myself and my gender expression, and his characterisation of Death as this genderfluid, pansexual otherworldly being is just beautiful. And if you enjoy then I'd also recommend the 2005 Vienna production which is also on Youtube with English subtitles mostly for the few extra added song and Serkan Kaya's performance as Lucheni.

And if Kronprinz is still around, I know you were requesting a Der Tod audio for a long time and I hope you're happy with this one. This is a sideblog created for art and fics for the Digimon/Pokemon Swap AU created by FireDragon1321 (that's me!). I decided to make a sideblog to make it easier to post about this mess of an AU since it got too big. This post contains all the info you need to get started.

What is the Digimon/Pokemon Swap AU?

Basically, Digimon is Pokemon and Pokemon is Digimon. Themes, characters, items, and even staff of the two franchises are switched thanks to a multi-dimensional reset. The AU has a project on Ao3 (project link here and artbook here), which will contain fic, art, and more. Basically everything posted here will eventually migrate there.

The lore heavily revolves around Electric Soldier Porygon, a Pokemon episode banned in Japan for causing epileptic seizures. You can read about it here (there is a gif of the seizure-causing animation frozen on the first frame- do not click the gif).

If the mere concept of this episode makes you squeamish, then this is not the AU for you. I found the lore of this episode interesting to explore (in some cases, it was the only episode to contain the information I needed). However- due to the real-world tragedy connected to this episode- I understand that its mere inclusion may be upsetting to some people.

Out of respect for the victims, this AU will contain no flashing lights. Posts with bright colors or patterns that may trigger seizures will be tagged "seizure warning", though I will try and keep those to a minimum. Posts with Zalgo text will be tagged both "zalgo text" and "eyestrain", and I'll keep the "craziness level" as low as possible.

The lore will contain references to leaked material for Pokemon. Note that I will never include material from unreleased projects. I feel like the only way this blog can ethically exist is if there's a basic requirement of civility. If you allow and post "confessions" like "proshippers should be neutered" this blog just becomes a way for ppl to anonymously bully folks.

I'm just gonna post these both together and respond to it all at once. I had to chew on it for a while and I had a meeting, so I'm sorry I didn't respond to your first ask right away.

I honestly thought that person was being sarcastic. To me, it read very similarly to a lot of the things people were saying about the whole paraphilia thing from a few days ago, the whole "Right, because we should seriously kill people for kids they MIGHT hurt in the FUTURE" sentiment I saw a few people toss around.

But whether they meant it or not, whether they're seriously someone who holds this belief or someone mocking said belief, it's clearly ambiguous enough to hurt people regardless.

Posting that in the profic/proship tags (especially with no trigger warnings) was irresponsible of me and I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry to anyone I hurt, especially since I didn't give you any way to effectively prevent seeing stuff like that.

Honestly, I've been kind of skimming my asks for a few days, ever since the paraphilia shit I mentioned. All of that made me kind of want to vomit and I hated reading anything about it. Everything involved in that was kind of disgusting and there were several asks I genuinely couldn't finish. But...

I really don't like censoring or deleting the things people have to say in my ask box. When I created this blog, it was to post anything and everything I received, with no filter and no censorship (except for personally identifiable/directly targeted asks). Screaming into the void about silly fandom discourse and shipping two characters together. It isn't about which side has good or valid points or makes any sense at all, it's supposed to be cathartic.

I wanted to see what people would say when they knew there was no pressure or expectations to say one thing or the other, that no matter what they said, I'd still post it. Even if the content made me feel sick. Even if it were something I find genuinely immoral.

I completely understand why people wouldn't want these asks up, and especially why they wouldn't want it in the profic tags, which is why I've purged them all from the profic/proship tags. I'm also in the process of adding trigger tags to each post that might be triggering (formatted as "tw: *trigger*" if you want to block them). However, I've been posting things I don't personally agree with and things I genuinely cannot read all the way through, because I specifically don't want to delete anything anyone has sent.

I can delete the more aggressive asks completely and never answer anything like that again, but If I do that, I'll be deleting asks about my personal triggers as well. This means that asks involving discussion of incest, pedophilia, or necrophilia in any depth, real or in media, goes too. If I'm filtering out what people can send me, I'm not going to intentionally trigger myself anymore for this blog.

Or I can keep those posts "up," but with heavy trigger warnings. If I go with this, I'll put them under a cut as well so people have to read the trigger warnings and then click a button to see it.

A- the place of these themes in fiction and how it separated from reality.

I think the line has to be drawn. A line people seem to forget too easily. Obviously, rape is a horrible thing. This fact has never been refuted in any fics or novels or books. No writer will ever tell you, ‘rape is awesome and soooo romantic’.

Fiction is absolutely fiction. We are aware of it. There's a big difference. This obviously something readers choose to read being aware of fiction. Being aware that the real thing is horrible. Warnings and tags are always there to avoid readers unaware of it.

B- the differences with other themes

One thing I've been asked is what kind of difference writing rape is from writing dub-con or even pedophilia?

On dub-con, the line is blurred. Softer, protagonist may be in a path where the sexual action is wanted but blocked by the mind or pushed to it by the other protagonist, forcing their own need to give in. It is still seen as rape as consent is not fully given. There's not much difference from non-con. Writers usually use this tag to avoid any triggers to people.

For pedophilia, let's see this in a more details. I think we can all agree that all these themes, dub-con, CNC, non con, always involve adults. Whatever it is the kink, or in stories, it’s adults. Adults who are aware of what sex is and what this kink it. Children should never be near any of those themes. It's not about kinks anymore, children don't have kinks.

II- the reality of voicing your opinion on internet

A- SA victims and SH victims, sexual shame

Now there's something we need to talk about. Writing theses themes are used by many as a coming mechanism. SA victims may often use these writings to help the aftermath of these events in their own life.

In the kink itself it's something that obviously causes a lot of shame towards people who are not part of it. But many things need to be said. It's a need for a control of a situation that is dangerous and traumatizing. It's a sign of truth with your partner. Fiction is a way to live that fantasy in full safety as they are clearly aware of the truth of that situation in real life.

Now the thing that has started this whole conversation was the ‘don’t forget to tell rape kink writers to off themselves’.

It is not a small detail. Not at all!

This is where fiction is separated from reality. You are telling a real person to commit a real act that could lead to fatal consequences.

Obviously I think we’re all aware that many people on this website suffer from depression, self harm tendencies and bullying. I do too. Your words matter. Trust me. We’ve seen it with Inquisitor’s death while a live TikTok.

Many other tiktokers who had helped not only spread rumors but bully the creator only realized their mistake once he killed himself.

This is a no turn back situation.

Do you think you have the guts to wake up in the morning, knowing someone killed themselves because they wrote something you were against? That you are the reason they died? Their families are grieving?

B- respect even through anger

We have established one thing. The internet is a wild, free universe. Anyone can say or write or post whatever they want.

We haven't made any dsmp stimboards. I will if we ever DO make one, but we haven't. I'll talk more about this under the cut but TL;DR:

We will not be invalidating someone else's existence because of your discomfort. Asking for a trigger warning on someone's existence is different than asking for a warning on a specific stim. We will not be putting a tw on how people look, and if there are those things that make you uncomfortable you need to go through and filter it yourself in your settings.

Also anon, I am not upset with you personally, but this hits hard knowing that our existence has to be "palatable". Today wasn't a good day, and that's no excuse but it's not you I'm angry at, and I do apologize if it comes off that way.

The closest thing I think you might be talking about is the stimboard for the Ranboo factroject, in which case, I will not be tagging that post. I've been asked to tag it both as DSMP and MCYT now. Before anyone gets upset about this, feel free to block us, but our reasonings behind this:

That stimboard didn't have literally anything to do with the DSMP. Ranboo, the streamer that was used in that faceclaim, doesn't ONLY do DSMP or minecraft. That makes no sense. This stimboard had nothing to do with either of those things.

The Ranboo factroject was just that- a factroject. Void has nothing to do with the DSMP.

As anon mentioned in this ask, nobody can control their source. We do tag fictive sources from problematic sources, but this is a REAL LIFE PERSON that you want a trigger warning for.

You can go into your filters on Tumblr and block the word "Ranboo" or whatever else you want to not see without invalidating someone else's existence.

Not this anon, but a separate one asked for it to be tagged MCYT. Not only is that super vague, but Ranboo isn't known for ONLY doing Minecraft. He's a variety streamer. Plus, that groups in YouTubers that have done absolutely nothing wrong in with horrible people for no reason.

For this anon (and the other one that asked for a tw on this), go into YOUR filtering and block words! You regulate your own experiences, and the internet is not a safe place. I will not invalidate someone's existence to regulate the internet for you, you need to do that yourself. If anyone needs help being shown how to filter content, I'd be happy to make a post about this!

So, to clear this up:

We WILL put warnings on SOURCES. This includes but is not limited to Danganronpa, the DSMP (when it is actually about the dsmp), Pico's School, any actual fictional source.

We will NOT put warnings on bodies. This includes physical disabilities, large or skinny bodies, etc.

We WILL put tws on specific problematic people if asked. For example, it would be fine if someone asked for a specific streamer to be tagged that did something wrong (for example, if someone needed tobuscus or dream tagged). Even tagging that feels gross to me, but I understand that those sources are problematic too and should be tagged.

We WILL tag STIMS. No matter how weird the tag request. We'll tag hands and water and stuff like that if needed!

We WILL tag sources on things that AREN'T for introjects. For example if a singlet asks for a character stimboard or something, I'd be happy to tag THAT, but I WILL NOT invalidate the existence of the very people I made this blog for to begin with.

Hope this clears some stuff up. Feel free to block us, and please, PLEASE, go to your filtering in your settings and update it instead of invalidating others.

I do have complicated feelings about trigger warnings, and your post is the unlucky one now :p

I fully agree with the first paragraph. I like them to find, and to avoid things. I know some people get their panties in a twist about them in books; I don't mind them, though I usually do not care about them or go out of my way to read them.

The ones in movies and games suck, at least in my country. "Fantasy violence" it has a dude with a sword on the cover, of course there is 😭😭 and your "suggestive language" is less than the billboards down the road 😭😭

Now my very specific issue is with this site. There is 2-3 major issues I have with the tagging here.

1) There is no common spelling, and you need to blacklist every variant between cw:word, word, tw word, word tw and a dozen more, only to still find someone who thought to tag it tw abbreviated word or w0rd.

This is Tumblr. There is no solution for this. I mean there would be one. Wildcard blocking. I could block every post containing pineapple, but not every tag - why??

2) Some of those trigger warnings are a joke. If both "the whip cracked fade to black" and a gory flaying of skin are tagged "whipping tw" what good does it do? Those are not the same thing! There's a very real chance people would want to read one, and not the other. It's also impossible to combine them while searching.

You don't know before you read it if your gore warning is a bottle of blood dropped on the floor, or a graphic vivisection. There is no indicator to say how severe the content is, and even if there was, I don't think people would ever agree on what's severe. I've seen the "mature" label used for the most batshit stuff so far.

3) It is most often tagged on a per chapter base (due to chapters being rebloggable on their own.)

From what I understand, AO3 (and, you know, most other mediums out there) has a complete warning list for the whole work. This makes sense! Perhaps other people can throw away a story as soon as they stop liking it - I want to know how it ends. I'd hate to come across stuff I absolutely dislike halfway in and be unable to finish.

This works the other way around, too. What's the point of someone reading 10 of my chapters, skipping every second and then fucking off? I am writing a book, even if its shape is unconventional. I'd rather have them check all the warnings once and decide "that's not for me."

But also, with the way those warnings are detailed, on top of every chapter, they do in fact contain more spoilers than a small list in a whole book would. There's a difference whether you know "someone will die in this book" and "someone will die in the next 2000 words, in X way, because that's the only violence warning."

If I write a chapter that starts with an execution, and my tags "have to" explain whether it's a nightmare, a last minute rescue or something else, that is a spoiler.

If my chapter has warnings: none, there is no tension at all whether something happens, it doesn't obviously.

If I have to tag that ampuation you knew were coming, now you know when it comes.

That's not even touching my annoyance about how some people seem to be more conscious of tagging completely fictional bullshit than their real life posts/reblogs, or how some of the tags make me incredibly paranoid because they're about things you see the moment you leave your house, or how I can count the works that contain zero of the things that make me mildly uncomfortable on one hand, and if that would stop me from reading, I'd never read anything at all.

I guess the post could have been more about traditional media than Tumblr, but there, you cannot use the warnings to find (unless you use a site like doesthedogdie), because you need to have found the medium already to even check them.

I think I said this on my old blog, but, I personally think it bares repeating; in my opinion, trigger warnings are not only important for ensuring people do not read works that could potentially trigger them, but helping said works find the right audience as well.

If you have a laundry list of trigger warnings for your work, you're going to want the people that would go "OOO" at the disturbing nature of your work to pick it up more than the person that would absolutely shudder at the concept. The latter picking said work up unsuspecting is one of the reasons I feel some works get reviews that essentially boil down to "I hate that this disturbing work is disturbing!".

Might be obvious to some, but I see a lot of the debate about trigger warnings centering around the idea of deterring people from interacting with a work, that I think people just completely overlook the fact there's a demographic that lives for that stuff. People get so caught up on the idea of trigger warnings "scaring people away" that I think they overlook the reality that said person that was scared away was not their target audience to begin with anyway.

Made on a Homeworld colony 15000 years ago, Aquamarine is an high ranked gem whose role is to maintain order. They have the ability to control a gem thoughts and movements, but that ability is tiring for both parties if used too much.

When first emerged, they didn't think to much of their purpose, because that's what they were made for. But they quickly noticed other gems were scared of them, and so they began hating their power and their role.

They were powerful, and they were praised, but praised out of fear. And that was nothing that Aquamarine wanted.

4000 years after they first emerged, they met Citrine, a gem from Yellow Diamond's court who unlike other gems, didn't seem afraid of Aquamarine. She seemed… interested instead, and asked Aqua to let them but their personal guard.

Aqua accepted, seeing no harm in that. But what they didn't know was that the quartz was only interested in their power. Citrine wanted Aqua's power for herself, and she wouldn't let anything or anyone stop her.

At first Citrine did her job just like she was supposed to, being Aquamarine's personal guard when they needed to go to places. But when Citrine and Aqua were back in Aqua's quarters, she began to ask questions. A question that at first, could sound logical to ask, asking them why they didn't just use their power if someone tried to attack them.

Aqua began to think about it. After all why didn't they use their power more?

It made them tired. They could see the look in other gems' eyes after they used their power. They could the fear, they could hear the whispers.

This power was a curse.

But the quartz wanted to hear none of it. She didn't want to hear any of Aqua's reasons, couldn't possibly understand how anyone wouldn't want this power. With this power she could make anyone praise her.

After a few years, her attitude soon began to change. She was still asking the same question again and again. Why didn't Aqua use their power more? But now with the question, began the insults. It was only once in a while at first.

Aqua just ignored it. Surely Citrine would change. If they told anyone, the quartz would get shattered, and the beryl couldn't live with this on their conscience. So they let her.

But the insults were soon doubled. It was more often, and more insults. Citrine continued to ask Aqua why they wouldn't use their power more often . Telling them they should use their power because without it, they were nothing. No matter how much Aqua tried to explain they didn't want to use their power more than they had to.

They were tired of Citrine's insults, tired of her attitude towards them. It had been going on for over two hundred years. Why was she obsessed with their power in the first place? But they knew she would get shattered if they spoke about it. So they just tried to reason with her, tried explaining why they didn't want to use their power for unnecessary reasons, and told Citrine she had to stop otherwise they would have to have her shattered.

But it just made Citrine laugh internally. She knew Aqua was to much of a wimp to do so.

So she continued to insult them, with the goal to break them. She wanted to break Aqua mentally. She wanted to prove to them she was better than them, that they were nothing without their power. All of that in the goal to make them use their power on other gems to praise Citrine. And she wouldn't stop before she got to this goal.

So she continued the insults, and everyday she was calling Aqua worthless,saying that they were a waste of resources, telling them they were weak for not using their power to make everyone bend to their will at all times, that their power was too great for them. She would also tell them she should have had that power instead, because at least she would use it how it was meant to be used.

Aqua was afraid. They weren't meant for fighting but Citrine was, so they couldn't fight her. They only had two options : denounce Citrine, which would end in her being shattered. Or use their power on her to make her stop. None of which sounded like good options to Aqua.

This went on for a hundred years before Aqua snapped and used their power on Citrine to force her to be quiet while she was insulting them again.

Citrine was ecstatic. She had proven her point; Aqua couldn't do anything without their power. Her plan was beginning to work.

But Aqua was horrified, ashamed of themself. They couldn't stop blaming themself, thinking surely what Citrine was doing wasn't as bad and that they had overreacted by forcing her to shut up with their power,that they were in the wrong.

Citrine's attitude towards the beryl completely changed once more. She began to praise them instead.

Praised them for finally getting stronger. Finally using their power.

But Aqua tried explaining to her that it was a mistake, they never meant to do that. They kept apologizing over and over, crying as they repeated that it was a mistake.

Citrine just told them that it wasn't a mistake. It was only the first step.

Aqua was confused but didn't bother asking about it,scared of what the answer could be.

The only positive thing was that the insults from Citrine had stopped. But the beryl couldn't understand why she was praising them instead. She was just acting like other gems now.

Citrine, meanwhile, continued to shower Aqua in praise about how they finally were getting stronger. Aqua wasn't used to hearing positive feedback from her, and they felt conflicted about it. On one hand it was better than the insults. But on the other hand, they had started to believe every negative thing Citrine had told them, and they still felt guilty for using their power on her.

Feeling like her plan wasn't working fast enough, Citrine starting going back and forth between insult and praise,leaving the other gem confused. Aqua didn't know what to expect anymore. But they didn't want to hear the insults anymore. They had finally gotten used to the praise from Citrine, and they wanted to hear more of it. They needed her to tell them they were good enough.

So they did something they still regret to this day. They asked Citrine what she wanted them to do, how they could get stronger. Citrine didn't care about Aqua being strong. She just wanted to make them believe they were strong. She just wanted Aqua to use their power on other gems to shower Citrine in compliments, but she would never tell to Aqua that they were being used. Not directly.

Citrine told Aqua to invite a gem to their quarters. Not questioning why, Aqua invited a random Amethyst in their quarters, who was confused as to what she was doing here. But Aqua could only think of one thing:if they used their power on this gem, Citrine would tell them they were good and would say they were getting stronger. When Citrine told them to make the Amethyst compliment her, they obeyed, forcing the words out of the purple gem. Afterwards, the Amethyst left, with no memory of what happened

This went on for eight hundred years. Aqua would invite a gem, make them compliment Citrine. Citrine would then compliment Aqua.

The guilt the beryl felt before regarding their power was gone. All they cared about now was Citrine's approval and validation. But the constant use of their power was making them tired. Citrine didn't care about it.

But there was one gem who grew tired of it all: Aqua's Pearl, Cyan. She had kept quiet all those years but couldn't bear to see the gem Aqua had become. But the situation was too much for her, and she couldn't stay here doing nothing anymore. Surprisingly for everyone including herself she was able to summon a weapon, a mace she used to poof Citrine as she had her back turned.

But Aqua's reaction wasn't the one Cyan had expected. They looked angry and stressed, almost hitting Cyan, yelling, asking the other gem why she would do that,to which the taller gem had no response, simply looking at Citrine's gem on the floor.

Because Citrine could reform at any moment and because she didn't know how to bubble gems, Cyan was about to shatter Citrine before Aqua stopped her and bubbled the gem themself.

They wanted to let Citrine reform but they also wanted to hear Cyan's explanation as to why she did what she did.

Cyan explained everything, how Aqua had changed and how Cyan couldn't recognize them anymore, how they were being used by Citrine, and how Cyan couldn't bear to watch anymore. But Aqua was in complete denial. They were important to Citrine. They were not being used.

But Cyan was not going to give up so easily.

She repeatedly explained to Aqua how Citrine didn't care about them and how she was only interested in their power, how Aquamarine would have never yelled at Cyan before that.

Although Aqua didn't believe Cyan on the fact Citrine didn't care about them, they trusted her and knew she was right about Aqua never raising their voice at her, and they knew Cyan knew them better than any other gems.

With her advice they kept Citrine bubbled, but it was difficult. Aqua wanted to let her out. They still didn't want to believe they were being used. It took over a thousand year to accept it was a fact, during which time Citrine was still bubbled.

When she was unbubbled by Aqua, away from their quarters, Citrine was told by Cyan to leave and never come back otherwise she would shatter her,the Pearl not caring about the consequences.

Citrine accepted but not without the promise to come back.

After that, Aqua got two new ruby guards instead,who did their job exactly how they were supposed to.

Earth Verse

Fearing Citrine would come back, Aqua fleed Homeworld thousands of years later, but without being able to bring Cyan and the Rubies with them. They still regret it to this day. They arrived on Earth right as the gem war was happening and had to fight in it for a bit, forced to use their power to defend themself due to not having a weapon. They quickly fleed again hiding in caves where there were no humans or gems. They avoided corruption by being in a cave at the time of the attack.

Homeworld Verse

They stayed on Homeworld, continuing to hate the way it worked. They were also afraid of Citrine coming back but it seemed like the quartz had disappeared. When Era 3 started they were one of the the first to celebrate.

... honestly I'm a little nervous about reblogging this, cause I'm not sure if I'm being rude by responding or if I should just not say anything. I guess I should start by saying that I genuinely don't want to cause any discourse/arguments from this (and I know you don't want to take part in any discourse, and honestly - I don't want you to be dogpiled either, especially after certain incidents). I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't mean for this to be an attack or anything like that, I really respect you, but I just... can't help but feel kind of upset by something you mentioned.

And yeah - honestly I feel bad about feeling upset cause I don't want to be the reason you feel like you can't ever say anything on your own blog - that'd really fucking suck, and I don't want to do that. If anything maybe I'm being kinda whiny here.

Basically it's the whole torture being diluted thing that I actually feel upset by. Let me first get this out of the way: this isn't me trying to harp about how bad Mobius is. Look I absolutely hate the guy's guts, and I find him intolerable, but that's not what I want to focus on. Loathe as I am to admit it, he was presented as "grayish" (despite his villainous actions and despite the hero coding - or perhaps because of both, depending on your viewpoint) so there's an argument to be had that he isn't evil (I don't agree, but I can agree to disagree).

What actually upset me is just the statement alone - that 'by calling what Mobius does to Loki "torture" - that you're diluting the actual meaning of the word'. And I just... I'm sorry but I wholeheartedly disagree. Not only do I disagree - it's objectively wrong. Here's the thing, torture, like actual torture... it's not what so many people think it is. It's not a word to just throw in whenever someone is brutally attacked. Jeffrey Dahmer never tortured anyone - I know that sounds insane but hear me out. He abused people in the most sadistic of ways, and he was absolute garbage for doing so... but he's not a torturer. That's because to torture someone, you have to be a govt official - a cop who beats a prisoner is a torturer but once he goes home and takes off his badge, he's no longer an active officer. So when he beats his wife he's not torturing her - he's abusing her. That's literally the only difference between the two - that and scale but I'm not going to get into that cause tbh I'm not the most educated when it comes to legitimate torture. Everything I know is from this amazing blog @scripttorture which teaches writers how to write authentic torture scenes, and the person who runs the blog does extensive research into real-life torture, it's psychological and physical effects it has on victims, etc. It's really in-depth stuff, but I don't recommend it to anyone who might be sensitive cause it covers some deeply upsetting and potentially triggering shit, but I digress.

One of the things I learned from that blog is - modern torture looks very different to how we might imagine torture to look like. They're called 'clean tortures' and the reason why is because they're not meant to leave scars - so anything from slapping to kicking, to solitary confinement, to sleep deprivation, to forcing victims into stress positions - those are all real, legitimate torture methods, and they're the most common ones used nowadays. And the negative effects they leave on a person - is physical. People have literally died from some of these methods. You'll hardly see many real-life incidents where people are having their body parts removed - that does happen, but it's far less common and far more extreme than the "clean torture" methods.

The point I'm trying to make by all this: when it comes to depictions of actual torture, what Mobius does is far far disturbingly closer to real life torture than anything Thanos ever did. That's not me pulling that out of my ass and trying to win an argument, nor is it me saying how much Mobius sucks or how he's worse than Thanos or whatever - I'm literally just going by the depictions of their actions alone.

Tbh I kinda felt stung when I read your post cause I never even read any other posts comparing Mobius to Thanos at all, and tbh I don't think it's fair to downplay the harm caused by one character cause the other was far worse - that feels way too much like trauma Olympics to me and I've always hated the idea of trauma being a goddamn competition.

If I can use an example - I recently watched a film called Irreversible, which revolves around a woman who is brutally raped in a subway underpass. She's repeatedly punched, kicked, and has her face smashed into the concrete floor. It's so bad that by the time an ambulance finds her, she's slipped into a coma. This is an extremely brutal rape - it's also not nearly as common.

Now I've also seen 13 Reasons Why (insert laugh track). Yes I know it's a meme, but bear with me. Two characters end up getting raped - one was passed out, the other wasn't physically beaten, but was still forced. And then you have Jessica Jones, and her experience of being raped. Now I think we can agree that it would be seriously fucked up and wrong to say "well only in Irreversible a woman was actually raped - by comparing those other characters (they just had "unwanted sex" or their boyfriends were "just being mean") you're diluting the word." We know it'd be wrong cause so many victims have been raped in those ways, that the most common form of rape is the non-excessively-brutal kind. No one's diluting the meaning of rape if they say they (or a character) was raped when they were passed out drunk, etc.

The truth is... real torture does not look like sadistic-ass Thanos pulling body parts out of his abducted child daughter or whatever extreme shit he's done to Loki, real torture is... locking someone in a room for an indefinite time and repeatedly hitting them in the same spot over and over and over again. Which is literally what Mobius does to Loki. Yes - he never laid a hand on him. He doesn't have to. All he has to do - just like real-life torturers do - is make the order.

Here's the thing - if this had just solely been about Mobius' interrogation (which while highly shady and questionable isn't really considered torture - at least not according to scripttorture anyway), if episode four had never happened... I would've agreed with you. I might've still felt upset with Mobius, but I would never have called him a torturer. But episode four did happen, Mobius actually did put Loki in a time cell where he's repeatedly struck in the crotch over and over again - just because Sif is technically the one doing it doesn't mean the TVA and Mobius aren't the ones inflicting it. That - that is actual torture, strip away the sci-fi aspects and that is some real-life depiction of what victims have actually gone through. And by saying that "calling what Mobius did torture is diluting the meaning of what torture is"... not only does that leave a bad taste of "trauma Olympics" in my mouth... it's so objectively wrong, and probably even harmful to someone who's actually been tortured. It feeds into torture apologia, and the myth of "for it to be torture it must always be scarring" - nevermind that torture victims have literally died with little to no marks on them.

I want to make it clear that I'm not saying you're a bad person, or that you're intentionally feeding into that myth - the fucked up thing about torture apologia is that it is so deeply ingrained into our media and society in general (just like anti-blackness, just like rape-culture and queerphobia) that half the time, most of us don't even know we're perpetuating it in the first place. (Like my nephew literally once saw that rape scene in 13 Reasons and he turned to me and asked "Is that actual rape? Cause it doesn't look like rape..." - and he said that cause he literally had no idea what rape actually was, and he bought into the myth that for it to be rape it must always be brutal.)

So like I get it; I get why it's not easy to recognize what torture is, it used to be hard for me too. Cause let's be real - not many people are going to take the time to research this shit because it is fucking soul-crushing and emotionally draining to read through all that and unless you're a morbid fuck like me chances are, people aren't going to want to spend their free time doing that.

Again, I'm not saying this cause I'm trying to make you hate Mobius or anything. I'm not saying he's worse than Thanos or whatever - I think he is, sure, but others don't and that's okay - cause at the end of the day he's just a fictional character and it's okay to like/dislike him for whatever reason. But I think it's actually important to try to recognize the actions of characters - whether it's abuse or torture, or rape, etc. And whether we like said characters or not.

People argue about what even is canon in the first place anyway. Even the starting point can't be agreed upon.

Anyway ... I mean, I'm mostly ambivalent on the first point re: people disagreeing over canon, bc ... like, idek where to start on all the shit that I could say about fans' relationship to and interaction with canon or even what canon technically is, like, by definition (and therefore what even qualifies as canon).

But I did want to address the second point bc I think it's a good opportunity to just sort of toss this hot take into the void: "Stating that fiction is subjective will ruffle some people's feathers at the minute" - so what? So. What. Fiction is subjective, all art is subjective, and that's something that is true, has been true, and will be true regardless of some fans' decision to just decide that things don't work that way.

They can get their feathers ruffled as much as they like, but people need to learn that their personal emotions and feelings about A Thing don't mean that they can just decide that That Thing is suddenly something else (or decide something else is suddenly That Thing). It's just like how words like gaslighting and narcissistic and abusive and torture and trigger have become so diluted bc people a) don't actually understand what gaslighting, for example, is, and therefore cannot possibly call it out with any real degree of accuracy, so they just end up throwing a really weighted term at something as basic, human, and everyday as telling a lie. Or an emotional argument becomes abuse, or being squicked by something makes it a trigger.

OR, on the opposite side of the coin, b) maybe they actually do know what gaslighting or abuse is, but then they will categorize anything that remotely falls within the realm of the same definition as being gaslighting or abuse. I, personally, for example, really hate the way that some people claim Mobius tortures and enslaves Loki. It drives me up the wall when I see those takes because - okay, are these terms technically correct? Yeah, technically, which is what they use to justify it - "Well, this source defines "torture" as xyz, and Mobius is clearly doing z, so Mobius is a torturer." But words mean shit, so are you really asking me to accept that Mobius tortured Loki just as Thanos tortured Loki? Yes? Okay, how? No? Okay, why not?

Here's the thing - Mobius never laid a hand on Loki, nor did he sadistically, literally play with Loki's mind. Remember, Loki was being influenced by the mind stone in Avengers and the Other had a constant connection to Loki's consciousness. Thanos (and the Other) tortured Loki. Mobius ... was mean to him during an interrogation and also lied about Loki being responsible for Frigga's death (and I've said it before, Mobius was being an unreliable narrator in this scene and anyone who believes - because of Mobius - that Loki actually killed Frigga is both factually wrong and also an idiot). Like, Mobius is shitty to Loki but Thanos is torturous to Loki. The two are not the same, regardless of how they may technically be defined. By calling the former torture, consistently, bc his behavior meets some arbitrary technical definition, you're actively diluting the word bc you feel like its weight lends credibility to your argument that Mobius sucks.

... I got off-topic for a second there, I'm sorry. But back to my point: fiction is subjective and I don't care whose feathers I ruffle by saying that. It's true, and acting like it's not so that you can feel like you have the "right" interpretation of the character (thus giving you personal validation which, I'm sorry to say, the Emperor thought that he was wearing fabulous new clothes but that didn't change the reality that he was butt ass naked) is just ... *gesticulates wildly bc words fail me* shitty.
