FINISHED THAT ONE COMIC I POSTED ABOUT ALMOST 30 FULL DAYS AGO?? I FINALLY REMEMBERED IT EXISTED AND FINISHED IT. I HAVE SO MUCH I WANT TO SAY ABOUT MY LAMB NOW THAT THEY'RE FINALLY THE MAIN CHARACTER IN A LONG COMIC, BUT it went on forever so I put it below the cut.
While we're above the cut, I have a bunch of REALLy good asks I'll be trying to draw for soon. But keep an eye out for a poll coming up soon...cause now that this is out of the way, I want another big project to have in the background and I have Big Ideas for Big Angst Comics........
OH YOU CLICKED THE THING, NICE. OKAY. SO:
Have I ever talked about how my lamb works?? I need to do more with them but I'm a bishop enjoyer to an obsessive degree. The lamb operates on the same kind of level as kallamar did during the breakdown comic, but on a more permanent, more stable level. After being told to hide for their whole life, to never show their face and not even being given a name......being beheaded by four gods and recruited by a fifth forgotten one who claims they're the Chosen One just made the lamb think "OH! None of this is real. My brain wanted me to feel important before I died, and this is my dying vision. Okay, I'll play along >:)" and now they're the equivalent of when you beat a game and replay it while picking the funniest/worst options to see what'd happen.
USUALLY their decisions are clouded by the assumption that nothing they do actually matters, but they're still......a person who held things dear and had standards while they were alive. So they love hijinx, but aren't like leshy who launches people out of catapults for fun, or kallamar who sees mortals more as lab rats than people living their own lives. They'll do some things for the lolz but their humanity definitely shows through when dealing with someone like shamura.
I think they went into the bishop slaying quest wanting to hate shamura, assuming they were an irredeemable antagonist that deserved to be vanquished. They were told by narinder that shamura was the big bad, so they figured there was nothing to it beyond that. But then they actually MET shamura, who wasn't at all what they were expected to be. Every other bishop is just like "RAHH I'LL KILL YOU" when you meet them, and then shamura is the only person who actually tells you about what happened, speaks to you like a person and not an obstacle, and doesn't seem bothered about the fact they're going to die. So that got them thinking....hmm...perhaps these people are slightly more realistic than I anticipated. Still gonna kill them tho
I'm not sure the lamb hates the bishops, especially after the realization that they're a fucked up family acting out in desperation rather than logic. When you're born into circumstances you know will eventually doom you (like being a sacrificial lamb destined for slaughter) you kinda...lose the ability to care after a while. They don't really *forgive* the bishops for the slaughter of their people, and definitely enjoy bullying them and kicking them around now that they're powerless mortals- but the initial horror of being born to die has subsided. Now that they're presumably in some kind of afterlife, and have better, more fun things to move onto now that they're the ruler of everything- it's not worth it to hate those five forever.
I think *because* the lamb has only been a god very briefly and still remembers mortality well, that's why they're the one god who does things "because they're funny" but also is respectful of people like shamura. It's like when you're playing GTA V and you accidentally drive over a dog while trying to pull over and look at it closer. Is it a real dog?? No but you're still gonna feel bad!! So like I said, in the lamb's mind they have NO reason to care about any of these people or show them mercy, but the fact that they're not as detached from mortality as the bishops were makes them a benevolent god. I'll be doing a comic about this very subject in the future and it WILL be depressing >:)
Also. Unrelated. But if you read this far, I feel the need to justify why heket and leshy suddenly have boobs in this comic. I'm sure it's obvious that I headcanon the gods don't have sex characteristics cause like...why would they need those. I don't want to draw that. But as MORTALS they would probably need to have all their organs intact to function properly, so pour one out for shamura + leshy who probably completely forgot they were transgender until they woke up in mortal bodies. NOT SURE HOW KALLAMAR WOULD REACT, I think they're more just horrified they lost all their tentacles
I debated doing another silly comic about the concept but I don't want this blog to get too raunchy, so instead have this epic ms paint art (I CAN MAKE THESE JOKES, I'M AFAB TRANS I DESERVE THIS ONE THING)

GHOSTS OF THE PAST (Batfam x neglected hero reader)
III𓂃› SPIDER
Warning: violence, swearing, sensitive topics, bad things, spelling mistakes (English is not my first language) and the reader has black hair and blue eyes (sorry), female reader!, I accept criticism, but please don't be rude, everything is fictional!
Hey guys! I'm really sorry it took me so long to post (I was sorting out some things in my life). well, enjoy the chapter!♡
Clark really didn't know what he was getting himself into.
He had expected to come to New York to do a simple interview for the Daily Planet, write the report and spreadsheet right here while eating at a café and if possible bring back some souvenirs for Lois and Jon.
Fighting a supervillain was definitely not in his plans.
It had happened out of nowhere, while he was waiting for the meeting with the businessman, the urgent news on television warning about a monster attacking the city made him leave urgently. He could solve this and finish it in time.
He just didn't know that he wouldn't need to solve it.
While flying, now as Superman, he easily found the villain, it wasn't very difficult to see him in fact. He was the size of a building of at least nine or ten stories, his skin was rocky and hard, made purely of stone. Clark was about to attack the giant when he heard a scream.
Looking through the villain a helicopter was in the way, the pilot tried to maneuver away but they would be enveloped in the confusion. Using his speed, Clark tried to get closer to the helicopter, however it was not enough since it was still far away.
The rocky hand would catch the vehicle before him.
Well, he is not alone.
Before the walking rock caught the propeller and possibly destroyed the vehicle something got attached to the hand and pulled it up, bringing the villain's focus to another place, his distraction was enough for him to catch the helicopter. He noticed as he moved away that what had stopped the giant was... a web? He followed with his gaze the path of the white rope and saw a figure pass quickly on it.
What?
Leaving the helicopter on top of a landing area of a nearby building, he approached the frightened journalists. "Are you hurt?"
The one who answered was the cameraman, who was still breathing heavily, "N-no, Mr. Superman. We're fine-"
"IT'S HER! TYLER FILM, FILM!" The woman's excitement made the man quickly grab his camera. She looked at him and gave a shy smile while holding the microphone, perhaps a little embarrassed by her euphoria. "Oh, Superman, thank you very much. It's just that we never get clear images of her, so you can understand our excitement."
She? She who?
No one needed to answer his question because when he looked at the monster he saw the "she".
A super heroine
Her figure swayed between the giant and the buildings. She wore a suit that covered her entire body, leaving no room to see any of her features. All Clark could see was that she was short, perhaps indicating that she was a teenager.
The monster tried to grab her with its free hand, moving much faster than it had when it was with the helicopter. She, however, brought her webbed wrist towards the giant's face, causing him punched his own face. Swinging away from him, she taunted, her voice echoing off the buildings. "Hey big guy, is that all you know how to do? For someone so tough, you're softer than jelly!"
Hit a nerve, for sure.
"Who is she?" He asked the man who was filming the action with the reporter, even in a situation like that the cameraman looked at the heroine with a glint in his eye, a glint that intrigued Clark.
"Her? She's Spider-Woman."
Spider Woman, he had never heard of this superheroine, but that didn't matter now.The "Spider Woman" swung again on her webs at the stone man's aggression towards her. Superman moved away from the reporters and headed towards the brute. He was quick to bump his fist with the giant's, preventing him from punching a building. The action made the heroine finally notice the Kryptonian. She widened the white eyes of the mask when she saw him flying. "Superman?"
She hung from a building, climbing the glass to get closer to him, she looked at the monster and then at him, her head spinning until she realized something, knowing that he would help her she addressed him. "Hey, Superman. Can you immobilize him for me for at least a few seconds?"
The Kryptonian looked at her, hesitating a little, but then a smile appeared on his lips "Leave it to me."
They moved together at that moment. Clark used his freezing breath on the stone legs, freezing them and immobilizing him to the ground. With the giant still, the spider woman climbed on his back and reached his neck. While the monster struggled, he saw her take a syringe and apply it to the rocky neck. With the liquid entering the monster's veins, he began to scream. Clark was about to intervene when the thunderous scream stopped.
Slowly, pieces of stone fell from the giant, and when they found their end on the ground, they turned into sand, being carried away by the wind. Little by little, the monster began to disintegrate until there was nothing left of him, just a cloud of dust in the place. Approaching to see the damage, he went down and came across the individuals.
The villain, once gigantic and grotesque, was now a thin and small man, passed out in the heroine's arms, while his breathing stabilized, Clark for the first time observed Spider-Woman up close, without being in the heat of battle.
The costume she wore was outlined in black and golden, the fabric was a mix of a dull color and another bright color, the symbol of a spider displayed proudly on her chest, the hood covered the mask on her face, making it difficult to see the white eyes of the mask. What intrigued him most was that it was not common fabric, since when he tried to use his x-ray vision he could not see Spider-Woman's identity.
She certainly knew how to hide her identity.
Just like someone he knew.
"Looking at he now, he doesn't look like a villain."
"And he isn't, they forced him, he's just an ordinary citizen." The dust slowly cleared, now revealing the street they were on. "Honestly, it's a surprise to see you here, shouldn't you be in Metropolis?"
Clark started to sweat a little. True, he should be in Metropolis, not New York, but he couldn't just watch everything on TV, there was a villain attacking the city! And he didn't know New York had a heroine to protect them! How careless of him. "Yeah, actually, I was..."
"was?"
"I-I flew past here! That's it." Spider-woman looked at him before starting to laugh, well at least he tried to hide it, in fact the excuse had been pretty bad.
"Okay, I'll take this as truth, you must have your reasons, don't you, Mr. Clark?"
The aforementioned froze, looking at the spider, who stood up carrying the injured man. The sounds of sirens were heard in the distance, indicating that the police were coming. "What?"
This time, it was the spider woman who froze, realizing her carelessness too late. She looked at him, and even with the mask on her face, he could have sworn a bead of sweat was on his forehead. "Ah, I and my big mouth."
"Do you know my identity? How did you-"
"L-look, I swear it wasn't intentional, seriously! I have... my reasons to know, but I promise! I didn't tell anyone and I won't tell anyone." Superman just looked at her in astonishment, it wasn't intentional? How did she find out then? While the police and ambulance finally arrived, the woman was quick to hand the man over to the police and briefly explained everything, she distanced herself from the police, ready to leave as quickly as possible when he approached her.
"Who are you? Like, really?" She looked at him, clearly anxious to get out of there. "That's... a secret, but like I said, I won't tell anyone, don't worry."
She pulled away from him again, releasing a web from her wrist, already trapping her in a building to resume her run. But before that, she turned to Clark, the tone of her words showing no lies, only truths. "After all..."
"If I wanted to do this, I would have done it nine months ago."
And with that she was gone.
Again, Clark didn't know what he was doing.
It had been a few days since his encounter with Spider-Woman, the revelation that she knew his identity disturbed him, but that wasn't what was going through Clark's head now.
That was who she was.
That woman (or teenager?, Clark doesn't know) had been saving New York for at least a year and absolutely no one in the league knew, she was literally under their noses the whole time and no one knew! But while they didn't know anything, but New York knew, you weren't liked by everyone but most definitely liked you, you gave those people security every day and they trusted you.
You were a real mystery.
In addition, there was the identity issue. Clark wasn't rich, so he didn't have spectacular security to hide his identity, but he always took precautions. You, however, found out so easily. Clark knew that your "it wasn't intentional" statement might be wrong, but whether it was intentional or not, you still did it.
Clark knew that you wouldn't reveal your identity to the world. Your statement made that very clear, but even so, his head itched and itched to meet you.
Maybe he was being hasty, but you were a great heroine, there was no denying that. You fought well, you were smart, and you had experience. You could be a good ally. Besides, Clark doesn't know if you're an adult, so it would be a good way to keep you under supervision.
That's why he's heading back to New York now.
The sun had already set, giving him a view of the beautiful night that had fallen while he was flying, but at that moment Clark was trying to find you.
He didn't know where you could be, in fact he didn't know what to do when he found you, he didn't even know what sparked his interest, he simply... felt. Something about how you were, the mystery surrounding you intrigued him, and Clark simply followed that instinct.
His thoughts were interrupted when his super hearing picked up a sound, of what sounded like running, it could have been anything but his instincts told him to follow the sound, to find the source.
He did.
And thank goodness he did, because he found you.
You were jumping over the buildings, like he had seen you do before, and it was only when you stopped that he could approach you. You were on the edge of the building, looking down at the floors. Clark intended to approach you, but it seemed like you had other plans.
"I thought you had already left." Your voice was neutral, showing no irritation or pleading, it was as white as a sheet, which made him stop, a little surprised that you had discovered him. "I did."
You turned to him, the eyes of the mask you were wearing showing him your confusion, looking him up and down, your reasoning led you to realize why he was here. "You- wait, are you following me?!"
"Following is a very strong word-"
"But you just admitted that you went to the metropolis and came to New York again!" Your arms gestured so quickly thanks to your nervousness that when you realized it you put one of them on your waist and the other you ran your hand over your face.
Clark couldn't help but find this cute.
"Look if this is because of the identity-"
"More or less, but that's not all." Clark's mouth turned into a gentle smile, your brain thinking about the possibilities again, all while you looked at him.
Silence reigned between the two, neither of them wanting to comment before the other, but it seems that Spider-Woman didn't have much time because a sound came from her gauntlet, she quickly accessed it and Clark saw that the "bracelet" was a type of miniature screen attached to the fabric of the suit, you looked at the messages before turning to Clark.
"I'm sorry but I have to go." You looked at the city below, looking at the lights that illuminated the place. Clark was about to speak when you cut him off before. "No offense Superman, but I think it's better if you go back to Metropolis, I don't have time to talk."
You spread your arms wide as you leaned towards the edge of the building, your eyes narrowed affectionately, which contradicted your voice full of irony. "Then this is our last meeting, thank you~"
And then you threw yourself.
Clark flew to the edge, ready to catch up with you, only to be faced with the emptiness of the city, you disappeared before their eyes, like a ghost.
"Then this is our last meeting."
No, it wouldn't be.
And it wasn't.
For the past four months, Clark has been bothering you, appearing out of nowhere, scaring you, helping you, making you more irritated by his constant appearances, making you more dynamic, more ironic, but happy.
It was a confusion of emotions, to tell the truth.
You expected that after a while he would stop doing this, after all he had things to take care of, for example: a city called Metropolis.
But Clark apparently didn't agree with that, because at least once every two weeks he would go to New York just to talk. The weirdest thing is that he started talking about his life to you as if he had known you for years! He talked about how he loved Lois, his relationship with John and Conner, GOD! He even talked about the Daily Planet!
Dude, he didn't even know who you were and he was just talking about his life to you?
You, however, always listened to him, you didn't tell him anything about your life but you didn't stop listening to him either.
Honestly, if you wanted to, you could very well mess with his life.
Good thing you're the heroine here.
As you jumped between buildings, your danger sensor beeped, warning you of something approaching. Knowing who it could be, you went down to the terrace of a building. Your suspicions were confirmed when you felt a gust of air from above. Turning around, you came face to face with the hero who had been on your tail for the last few months: Superman.
Clark had a gentle smile on his face, the smile of a hero, something that conveyed confidence and comfort. And it really did.
"Hello, Mr. Super, you look as happy as ever."
"Yeah, you look as relaxed as ever." He landed in front of you as you leaned against the building's railing, your elbows keeping your body steady as you assumed a carefree posture. Clark glanced at the buildings behind you nervously, uneasy about something. "I hope you don't mind, but we have company today."
You arched an eyebrow in doubt as your danger sensor went off like crazy, you had a few seconds before you turned around and launched a web at the person. You expected to find a criminal or even a super villain, but you were faced with the sunglasses of a teenager in a costume similar to Superman. "Yeah, she's really fast like you said."
What?
Before you could react, a much smaller figure appeared in front of you, just like the teenager (the difference was that he was a child and didn't wear glasses) he also looked a lot like Clark, he floated in front of you, bright and excited eyes directed at you. "Wow! You're so much cooler in person!"
A drop appeared on your head, turning to the man of steel you muttered to him. "Who are-"
"John and Conner." He chuckled softly, seeing your eyes narrow in irritation. "John really wanted to meet you and Conner ended up joining too."
"Oh." You pulled away from John a little as sarcasm flooded your lips. "That's great!"
Conner chuckled softly as you released him from your web, he approached you as he bent down a little to speak to you, since he was taller. "I thought you'd be happy to see us, it's not every day three Kryptonians come to New York to help with crimes." His voice held an undeniable teasing, the low and deep tone of his voice having the words dragged in his speech, it seemed almost sensual.
You stopped as you watched the other two, John and Clark froze, their gazes fixed on Conner, who you had confirmed was trying to subtly court you.
But you're not the shy girl here.
You approached him, close enough to be face to face, your breath could be felt on his mask. Conner, surprised by your bold move, leaned back, his cheeks flushed with your approach. "Well, New York is already protected by its heroine every day, so I don't need help." The smile on your face grew when Conner turned redder at the sound of your voice.
You quickly moved away from him and hung on the ledge, you turned to him, your figure shining with the lights in the city. "Then watch me do my job, mini super."
You fell from the building, the wind shaking your hood as you fell. Before hitting the ground, you threw a web up and climbed up again, hanging on one at a time. As your figure moved away, Conner and John looked at you. "Damn."
"You better come, or we'll end up losing her."
The night would be very long.
"OH GOSH, I'm so tired!" You yawned as you hung on the webs, it was almost four in the morning and you decided to go home. The supers had already left, you believe they were tired too (Especially Conner, where you and he played flirting all night).
You stopped on the terrace while looking around, seeing if someone or something had followed you, seeing no threat you hung on your web and slowly fell to your apartment, you opened the balcony door and as soon as you entered you were greeted by a satisfied meow.
Looking at the sofa in the living room, you saw Mooly lying on the cushion, the little black kitten moving and going to your ankle, cunning for affection. You laughed softly and picked her up gently, while placing her in your arms. "Hey, haven't you gone to sleep yet?"
As you petted the little one, footsteps were heard throughout the house, when you looked up you came across a large white vinyl robot, its form being embraced by its shadows, its round eyes shining in the dark space.
You looked at it and it did the same, the atmosphere apparently cold and tense to those looking from the outside, but completely the opposite for those who live in this house. The robot bowed respectfully, its voice, calm and tobotic, showed deep down a contained joy, reserved only for those close to it.
"It's so good to see you home." He stood up from his position, round eyes blinking slightly in the darkness of the apartment.
"Master (Name)."
You smiled as you set Mooly down on the couch again, you raised your hand to his neck and squeezed it, causing his mask to retract, revealing his identity. His face, the face of someone forgotten is a frequent presence on the walls here.
(Name) Wayne, the Spider-Woman, the missing daughter, the useless Wayne. His face was older than before, aged like red wine, clearly showing that you took after your father, since your face was just like his. Beautiful and exquisite, cold and deadly.
"It's good to be home Mark, where's Alex?" You asked as you squeezed your shoulder, which was a bit sore from today's patrol.
"Mrs. Alex is already asleep, she said she couldn't stand listening to you flirting with Superboy anymore."This made you laugh out loud, you could imagine Alex covering his ears so he wouldn't hear the two of you. You pressed the bracelet on your wrist and in a flash your suit retracted into the bracelet, showing your figure that had a loose blouse and pants. You stretched, heading towards the bathroom.
"Well, I guess I better go too, tomorrow I have a college project and Mrs. Vivian wants me early at the coffee shop" before you could get there Mark called you, his voice echoing through the house. "You got a message from Master Billy."
You stopped and looked at Mark, the notification displayed on his cute belly from an ologram. "Did he send it at this time?" The robot shook his head and handed the phone to you.
Opening your messages you went straight to Billy's contact, concern starting to creep in on you, but then again, you should know how Billy is.
Because when you saw the message you felt your stomach churn.
Billy Batson was eating the most beautiful and delicious candy you had ever seen in your entire life, and he sent it to you even though he knew about your addiction to sweets.
That little shit-
You quickly typed furiously on the cell phone keyboard, not caring that it was late, just wanting to curse Batson for making you feel hungry when you planned on not having dinner.
'Fuck, I hate you Batson ಥ_ಥ'
His answer didn't take more than a few seconds to come, his response irritating you even more.
'HEY, you finally answered me, I was already worried. Besides, I know you love me 𖹭𖹭𖹭(∪ ◡ ∪)'
'I promise I'll buy one for you, good night little spider ツ'
'...good night Billy.'
You wanted to cry, that's it.
Especially because you were hungry now.
Knowing your fate, you threw the cellphone on the couch and turned on the kitchen light, you heard Mooly and Mark's footsteps following you.
"I think there are still ingredients for a mug cake, right?" eating now wouldn't hurt.
"Bruce? BRUCE!" The aforementioned looked at the entrance of the batcave where Tim and Jason had rushed in. The two looked like they had seen a ghost, sweaty and pale, still in their suits. "Tim, what is it?"
"You- You need to see this!" He sighed heavily as he threw himself into the chair at the control panel, his fingers typing faster than he had seen them on missions. Bruce looked at Jason, who was standing next to him, who had a burning look on his face, hope hidden behind his eyes.
What's going on?
Bruce didn't need to ask, because Tim began to explain to him. "Since the accident with... (Name), I've never found any clues..." Bruce shuddered at the sound of your name, they didn't talk about that subject.
Even after three years it still hurt.
"But that was because I wasn't looking in the right place!" The teenager put up the pictures of the bus that had been carrying you that day, only the wreckage that was left was in the picture. "But now-now I know where to look."
"Last year, Star City had several people kidnapped suddenly, just like (Name) no one found any clues about the case, but Jason and Roy investigated thoroughly and managed to find a kind of underground dungeon where the kidnapped people would be."
Now on the computer was the picture of the bus and of a kind of what Bruce would call a mental hospital. The place was so rotten and filthy that Bruce wondered if anyone lived there. "Apparently there's nothing, but if you look behind each of the huge graffiti on the wall..."
Tim, using the program, removed the graffiti, which gave Bruce a view of the white walls, but in the middle of them, pieces of something nonsensical resided there. "... and put them together."
The movement in Tim's hands moved the images on the wall, distorting and shaping them until one completed the other, making the nonsensical make sense.
"A symbol."
The symbol of a womb wrapped around a two-headed serpent.
"Do you know where else this symbol is?" Tim again returned to the image of the bus wreckage, he shaped the image and put together pieces of the walls that resulted in the same symbol, but with small parts missing. "So you mean-"
"That the same people who kidnapped the people in Star City were the ones who kidnapped (Name)." Jason answered for the two, his tone as dejected as Bruce's.
He can't blame him, he's in a similar state.
"The problem is that I can't find out what it means, I've tried on the Internet, in history books, even on Wikipedia! But I haven't found anything."
The crushing silence suffocated those present, leaving invisible marks on their being. "It has to have a meaning, anything- okay, what does it mean to a womb?!"
"Jason, this is stupid-"
"No, but we have to try! Shit, you only looked in science books or-or whatever, but have you tried to look for anything related to mythology?" Tim thought for a moment, but shook his head negatively.
"The womb refers to the woman, the mother. Now, what does a two-headed snake refer to?" Bruce asked no one in particular, his thoughts searching for the knowledge he had about it.
"Would it be a mother snake? That's nonsense."
Jason thought for a moment and realized something. "Technically, it's not." The red hood searched the control panel while talking to Robin and Batman.
"In Greek mythology, there was a creature that was half snake and half woman." The mythological image appeared next to the symbol. The grotesque figure of the creature somehow referred to the symbol.
"She was known as the mother of monsters."
"Echidna."
HI GUYS, this chapter was a lot of work, I had a lot of blockages but I managed to do it.
Now I have a question to ask: Is Conner treated as Clark's son or brother?
You already know that I haven't read the comics, I've watched Young Justice (at least there it gave the impression that Conner would be treated as Clark's son) but on Wikipedia it says that Conner is treated as John's uncle, please answer me 😭.
I'm also doing a reader drawing (NON-CANONIC), I think I'll do headcanons too. I'll possibly leave a link below.
Ok, let's go to the Tag list \(•◡•)/:

Summary: Slaving away in the bowels of Octavinelle as an anenome, Ace finds himself desperate to find a way out of his mess. Being put under the watch of a quiet Octavinelle second year thrusts an opportunity at Ace. Ace decides that, yes, Finn Clearcove would definitely be a help in this situation. It goes about as well as expected. (It does have a part 2, but I'll see how well this goes before rewriting that XD)
This is a rewrite of my first ever Finn fic, over a full year later. Please stick around to the end, I've got some special words for ya'll. (Here's the original, but pls don't look DON'T LOOK it's embarrassing/hj) Art for banner by @authoruio
Warnings: Swearing, forced labour, mentions of blood, that's about it Word count: 5239
(Pls reblog and leave a comment ❤️)
Anenome-Free Gaurauntee! (Hopefully)
Ace Trappola had fucked up. Now, this may seem unsurprising to most. Ace could never keep himself out of trouble. Whether it be running his mouth mouth or acting brashly, his actions often landed him in hot water.
This time, though, Ace had really fucked up.
The ghastly purple and blue anenome protruding from his head like some vile fungus was the bane of his existence. Not only did it look ridiculous and showcase his failures to anyone with a pair of eyes, but it turned him into a living puppet that bastard Azul could pull and contort as he pleased.
Ace was so confident when he made that contract. He never once thought he'd be kissing his freedom goodbye when he scrawled his signature onto that damning page.
Ugh, if only he'd known how many other poor souls had also made contracts and that he wouldn't have a chance. Maybe then he wouldn't be in this mess.
"Or maybe you wouldn't be in this mess if you didn't make a contract at all and asked Riddle for help or something." Yuu had said pointedly, and Ace could only groan in frustration and regret.
Now, Ace was standing in the VIP room in front of Azul's polished and tidy desk, wondering why he had been called here.
He didn't do anything wrong, did he? Floyd wasn't going to squeeze him again, was he? Oh no, anything but that, his ribs still hurt from last time-
"Don't look so terrified," Azul said, his smooth, suave voice laced with amusement. "You haven't done anything wrong. This time. But you're cutting it awfully close. I decided it would be best that I be generous and warn you that you're riding a fine line, Trappola. Your next punishment will be much harsher if you continue fighting against paying your dues. You're almost worse than the Savanaclaw anenomes."
There was a brief silence, and Ace quickly nodded, his gut tightening as he wondered what could possibly be even harsher than what was already dished out.
Azul checked his watch. "Your break ends soon. You best get going. But while I have you here, I'll let you know we're holding an event to commemorate the sports tournaments this weekend. Further details will be announced in time, but Floyd will be playing for the second year's, and Jade will be working front of house. You," Azul pointed at Ace with his cane. "Will be in the back because I can not have your abysmal attitude ruining the experience for the guests."
"Wait," Ace spluttered. "I have basketball games on the weekend too, I can't-"
"Your games are midmorning." Azul interrupted calmly. "You can work in the afternoons and evenings."
"But I'll be exhasuted-"
"Then you're lucky to be working in the kitchens and not running around for customers. Aren't I just so benevolent?" Azul's smile was stupidly smug as he spoke. "Of course, you will need someone watching you and the others while Jade and Floyd are absent. Hmm, I think Finn should be up to the task. He can keep you all in check."
"Who?" Ace blurted. Finn? Who was Finn? The name was vaguely familiar, but there were so many students in Night Raven that it could be anybody.
"Finn Clearcove. One of my second years."
As Ace eyed Azul wearily, that feeling of recognition sparked again.
Finn Clearcove. He'd heard that name before. When did-
Ah. Ace remembered now. When he and the others were helping Yuu and Grim investigate the strange freak accidents orchestrated by Savanaclaw, Finn was one of the students on their list of possible targets.
They found him in the library, reading silently in a dark corner. Ace almost couldn't believe that such a tiny, though definitely not light, guy was on their list at all. Sure, the dorm leader was small too, but he carried himself in a way that demanded respect and let you know he was powerful. This guy didn't give that vibe at all.
Their attempts at talking to Finn failed drastically as Finn's piercing eyes stared right through them, and he told them into to leave in a way that hinted at consequences if they did not listen.
Ace didn't really think about Finn after that. Finn wasn't scary, and he didn't do or say anything particularly striking, like the twins or Jack did.
Now, though, Ace's mind was running a mile a minute, trying to scrape up any other memories of Finn that may have been buried under other things weighing on his mind. Nothing.
What was Finn like? Was he as bad as the twins? Did he also relish in people's suffering? Did he play around with the emotions of others, too? ...Did he need a stepstool when getting stuff from a shelf?
Ace was drowning in these thoughts even as Azul ushered him out of the VIP room and back to work, forcing him to slave away under the watchful eyes of the twins until the skies turned dark.
Ace collapsed into bed, exhausted and woke up sluggish and filled with dread. Although he was confident in his skills, the damn anenome prevented him from practising when he wanted and left him tired and grumpy even when he did have time.
Unsurprisingly, this affected his gameplay. Cut to the aftermath of that morning's game and...they lost horribly. Sure, NRC lost a lot anyways, but even as Ace wiped sweat from his forehead and chugged down water, his heart was pounding in a mix of exertion and fury at the fact that the damn anenome made this loss worse than it ever could have been.
He made so many dumb mistakes. Mistakes a beginner would make! It pissed him off and embarrassed him to no end. And that wasn't even covering the fact that the stupid thing sticking out of his head was visible for all to see! They kept pointing and laughing at it!
Ace's mood was sour, and a storm cloud might as well have spawned above his head as he got changed and stomped to Mostro Lounge.
Somehow, Ace's heart managed to sink further when he saw just how many people were there. Not just students but families who came to watch the games. Parents, siblings, extended family, the whole place was packed to the brim.
When Ace arrived at the kitchen doors, Azul and Finn were already there, quietly conversing with each other.
Ace couldn't hear what they were saying, but he wouldn't have cared anyway because he was too busy biting back a snort at the sight of Finn. The guy was even smaller than Ace remembered, probably shorter than Epel.
Finn's face was set in a blank, unreadable expression as he quietly listened to what Azul was saying and occasionally murmured a reply. The conversation came to an end when Azul caught sight of Ace and that enraging smile spread onto his face.
"Ah, Ace, I see you're on time for once. Good." He said. "Finn, this is Ace Trappola. You'll need to keep an extra eye on him today and tomorrow, I'm afraid."
Finn nodded but didn't say anything in reply. He gazed silently at Ace with bright, light purple eyes that would make one think of an amethyst stone.
Ace met Finn's gaze and was suddenly overcome with such an overwhelming feeling of dread it startled him.
Azul must have noticed because he smirked and said, "I'm sure you'll behave, Ace." And left.
Ace didn't answer, still locked in some kind of weird staring contest with this tiny second year.
Finn suddenly turned and motioned for Ace to come inside the kitchens, where the other anenomes had already started working; preparing ingredients, cooking, washing dishes, and more.
Finn pulled a kitchen uniform from the small rack near the entrance and began putting it on, then pointed to where a Pomefiore student was frantically washing an ever growing pile of dishes consisting of both kitchen equipment and dishes from the Lounge itself.
"You're on dish duty, Mister Trappola." He said, and Ace realised this was the first time he'd ever heard him speak since the library encounter. His voice was so soft that Ace almost didn't hear it, but it was firm and commanding all the same. Sharp teeth just barely poked out from his lips. Was he like the twins?
Ace nodded and forced a smile, goosebumps rippling across the skin as he looked back at Finn. When he looked away to go and start on the dishes, the feeling of dread vanished.
Ace looked back at Finn. He caught his eyes, and while Finn gestured at him to get to work and feeling returned. Ace looked back to the dishes. The feeling vanished again.
Ace frowned. Weird.
"Get moving, Trappola!" Finn, well, it was too quiet to classify as a shout, so... called. He called, and Ace hurried to work.
Ace hated dish duty. There was always more than he could keep up with, but he didn't want anything to slip out of his hands and break, so he had to take it slower than he wanted. He was always hurried and run ragged, and then those damn twins would tell him he "missed a few spots" and make him do it all again.
Ace much preferred working front of the house, charming customers, and carrying drinks and food to and fro.
Well, at least he could see the rest of the kitchen from here since his station was at the back and out of the way. Ace found himself focusing on Finn.
For someone with such chubby fingers, Finn was nimble and efficient with knives. He wielded them with an ease and familiarity that only came from years of experience.
Though Finn was small and soft-spoken, the anenomes and other staff listened to him whenever he gave those quiet but firm commands.
Some anenomes were stubborn, but Finn's withering stare got them to shut right up. If they continued to resist, well, a harsh tug on the blue and purple monstrosities on their heads was enough pain to get them in line.
Ace wondered if he missed something because, sense of dread aside, Finn was pretty hard to take seriously with the way he strained his neck to look someone in the eyes and how he needed a step stool to grab anything a bit far off the ground and the way the buttons of his uniform seemed ready to snap right off with the way it strained against his middle.
When break came around, Ace was ready to bolt and embrace his brief moment of respite when he realised the room wasn't completely empty.
Finn remained alone in the kitchen and busied himself with making two cups of tea and a small snack.
"Pretty sure we aren't allowed to do that." Ace commented. "We have to bring our own stuff. Azul's gonna take that out of your pay, you know."
There was a long stretch of silence before Finn quietly said; "It's for Jade and Azul."
Ace furrowed his brows. "Why? Are you like their assistant or something?"
Finn didn't reply. Ace decided to take that as either a yes or a maybe. He watched Finn disappear into the VIP room, where he didn't come out until the very end of the break.
When Finn returned to start prepping for the next slew of orders, Ace found himself paying a little closer attention to him and his appearance.
Well, he didn't see anything new at first. Just the same details as before. Finn was very short, very chubby, and had curly green hair pulled back into a painfully tight bun. His eyes were like shining lilac amethyst gemstones, the colour only accentuated by the... dark circles under them.
Huh. Ace didn't notice that before. Now that he really looked, though, Finn looked really exhausted. He didn't really show it in his actions or voice, but it was prominent in his eyes.
"Work, Trappola." Finn hissed, and Ace nearly jumped out of skin. How had Finn noticed? Nevermind, he had to get to work before he got in trouble.
The rest of the night went by surpsingly quickly, the pace becoming calmer as the number of customers dwindled and the sky darkened.
At 9pm, Mostro Lounge closed its doors to customers. At 11pm, Ace was finally allowed to leave now that every bit of cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils were cleaned and packed away, and the work surfaces and tables were wiped down, and the floor was swept and mopped until the place was sparkling clean.
Ace was the last anenome to leave, exhaustion from his game and full day of working slowing him down.
However, before he left, Ace paused at the doors when he realised Finn was still there, bringing tea to the VIP room.
"You do know that Azul's not gonna pay you overtime or give you special treatment for doing all that, right?" He called. "Your shift's over."
Finn stopped walking and glanced at Ace, his usually deadpan face crinkling to form an irritated expression. "We don't tolerate loitering, Mister Trappola. Leave."
Ace felt a sudden spike of pain at the base of his anenome and laughed nervously. "Hah, right. Yeah, I'll go. You keep doing... whatever you're trying to do." He said, backing away and out of the Lounge.
When he was out of sight, Ace heard the door to the VIP room open and close.
Just how long was Finn going to be in there this time? What was he doing in there? It didn't take an entire half-hour break to give someone tea.
...Well, going out of your way to make someone tea when you aren't obligated to is pretty nice.
Ace sighed. Poor Finn. If he wasn't an assistant or trying to gain something like Ace first thought, and instead acting out of the kindness of his heart or whatever, then the shortstack was in for a nasty surprise. Azul would take full advantage of someone like that.
The next day was Finn's second and last day of watching over Ace and the other anenomes. It passed by without incident, more or less the same as the previous one.
After Finn's time there ended, and things returned to normal, Ace found himself paying attention to his presence anytime he noticed him.
He wasn't too sure why. Maybe it was that sense of dread. It did pique Ace's curiosity. He's never experienced something like that. Maybe it was Finn's unusual dedication to the finely dressed tyrants that made Ace's life hell.
Whatever the reason, Ace's observations carried on enough for him to recognise Finn had a routine that repeated day in and day out, a routine that he rarely broke from.
Finn was always at the lounge early, before any of the other staff or anenomes arrived, either talking to Azul and the twins or beginning prep for the upcoming shift.
He worked quietly and efficiently at the bar, which seemed to be his usual workstation (how had Ace not noticed him before?), methodically mixing drinks and avoiding people's eyes. He rarely spoke aside from a passing word or two to customers and co-workers.
In his brief moments of respite, when he had nothing to make, Finn would close his eyes and listen to the live band always performing at Mostro Lounge, or gaze out the large glass wall into the sea of vibrant corals and fish with a tired, melancholy expression. Or at least, that's what Ace guessed it was, Finn's face still looked more or less the same as always.
When Finn's break came around, he would busy himself with making tea (the number of cups depended on if either of the twins were there or not), then disappear into the VIP room until his break ended.
And that wasn't all. Even when Finn didn't have a shift, Ace would occasionally spot him around. Most of his time would be spent in the VIP room if he did show up, unless there was a "client" seeing Azul.
When he left, sometimes his clothes would look just a bit ruffled, and other times, his face would look just a little pink. Weird.
Ace wouldn't dream of giving a fraction more of his time to those bastards outside of what he was forced to give. He couldn't imagine willingly going in there in his free time (that is, if Finn was willing at all), but it seemed Finn didn't stop there.
Sometimes, but very rarely, Ace would catch sight of Finn having lunch with Azul and the terror twins at the cafeteria. His plate would be piled high with food, and he'd quietly eat while the other three spoke.
Finn would join in from time to time, but he only really seemed to say a word or two. Sometimes, he'd even laugh. At least Ace assumed that's what it was, if Finn covering his mouth with his hand as his shoulders shook slightly and his eyes crinkled was anything to go by. Ace wondered what they were talking about.
It was... weird. Watching Finn. Ace couldn't for the life of him figure out if Finn was a secret addition to Octavinelle's infamous trio, or some poor soul somehow forced into the role of assistant or secretary and made to follow them around.
"Is Finn... always around those three?" Ace asked another Octavinelle student during his break, gazing at the firmly shut door to the VIP room. He wasn't a creep, he wasn't going around following Finn everywhere he went! He barely knew anything about him!
The third year he was talking to shrugged. "Not always. But Finn's been hovering around them since they arrived together in their first year. No idea what he could want with them, nor do I care.. He's a weird little creep that keeps to himself, and I'm happy with that as long as he doesn't come near me."
Ace glanced back at them to ask another question but stopped when he saw them holding their hand out expectantly.
Ace growled a curse word and dug through his pockets to slap a few madol in their hand. He didn't say anything, though. It was on him for asking something from an Octavinelle student. However, he didn't entirely regret it.
Finn Clearcove was definitely... close to Azul, Jade, and Floyd in some weird way. Ace wouldn't go so far as to say they're friends, but they weren't simply strangers or acquaintances either. Ace knew Azul would rather die than let just anyone enter the VIP room as they please. There were also a few occasions when Ace witnessed Finn sway Azul's opinion in one way or another or convince him to do something.
However, Ace swore he saw Finn with Azul's study guide once. He would have thought Finn was actually an anenome too, but the second year was very much lacking the presence of an anenome on his head.
The best guess Ace could venture was that Finn worked for those three, running around like a personal assistant making tea and everything, and being run so ragged he had eyebags.
Ace mulled over all he had learned, and then, well, an idea began to form. Would it work? He had absolutely no idea. Probably not. But it was worth a shot to get out of this hell.
Trying to convince Finn to help get rid of the anenome shouldn't end too badly... right?
***
After another gruelling half shifted at Mostro Lounge, Ace sacrificed the momentary relief that was his break to instead stop Finn before he could leave with his teatray to enter the VIP room.
Finn was busy fixing a pot of tea as always when Ace came into the kitchen.
"Hey, Finn!" Ace said, coming over to stand next to him. Finn didn't reply, simply busying himself with placing the teapot onto the silver serving tray with the teacups and their matching saucers and the milk and the sugar.
Ace frowned.
"Finn! Hello, I want to talk to you!"
Finn continued to ignore him. Ace reached out to tap his shoulder, but what whatever he was going to do or say next was interrupted by Finn suddenly grabbing his hand and wrenching it back before he could even react.
Finn clutched his wrist so tight it hurt. Ace yelped and tried to pull back, but the older boy's grasp was far stronger than expected.
Finn's eyes seemed to pierce right through him, and that horrible sense of dread came crashing down on him once more.
Ace paled. One of the reasons for Finn's placement on the list of Savanaclaw's potential targets sprang forth, finally clambering free from its place buried underneath other memories.
"He has a knack for spotting weakness."
"Mister Trappola," Finn said slowly. He didn't loosen his hold. His knuckles started turning white. "I'm busy. What do you want?"
"I, uh-" Ace swallowed before continuing, deciding his freedom was worth the shortstack's wrath. "I wanted to- to ask if you could do something for me."
Finn's expression didn't change, but there was a brief flicker of interest in those creepy, iridescent eyes. "If you want something, Azul-"
"No!" Ace snapped. Then he took a deep breath and continued again. "No. Stop with the Azul advertising! Please? I want a favour from you, Finn."
For a good few minutes, there was no reply. Ace would say Finn was in a state of disbelief, but it was impossible to tell.
Finally, Finn raised an eyebrow and looked Ace up and down, then said; "Is that so?" In a tone that almost made Ace take his words back. "Well, what do you want, then? I want to leave while the tea's still hot."
To emphasise his point, Finn gently tapped on the teapot with his pointer finger.
"Uh, right. So, you and Azul seem to hang around each other an awful lot. He must trust you quite a bit, right?" Ace said quickly, silently cursing at himself as every single word came out the entirely wrong way than intended. "Well, I mean, of course he must, you're always in that VIP roon of his and- and you've changed his mind about a few things more than once. That's quite impressive, right? A guy like him doesn't seem interested in what other people have to say, unless-"
"Get on with it, Trappola." Finn interrupted, his soft voice cutting clean through Ace's own much louder one somehow.
"Right, sorry. What I'm saying is, you and Azul have some weird situation going on, and I won't pretend to understand it at all, but I do understand enough to ask that perhaps you would have mercy on this poor freshman and convince the boss man to get rid of this anenome early..?"
Finn blinked at him, and for once, Ace could actually read his expression. Disbelief. 'Better than anger, I guess..?'
"You want me to... what?"
"Get rid of this anenome!" Ace repeated, a little louder. "I can't stand being a puppet! I want this damn thing off my head! Look, I'll even help you get out from under Azul's thumb yourself in return, just please get it off!"
Finn crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at Ace, contemplating his words. Something... shifted in his eyes, though Ace couldn't really describe what it was.
On the inside, Finn wanted to laugh. He didn't know Ace all that well. Their interactions were few, and conversations, fewer. He didn't like Ace and didn't care to spend much more time around him than he needed to.
Now, though... now, he had an interesting opportunity presented to him, an opportunity in the form of an overworked and desperate freshman who did not seem to understand that the person he was talking to was not some sucker contorted to Azul's whims.
"Fine. I'll humour you. You want me to question my own housewarden for you, then? Me, not even the vice housewarden, asking Azul Ashengrotto to free a stubborn little first year from the terms of his own contract? The 'payment' you just offered me?" Finn made a noise that sounded far too much like a haughty scoff for Ace's liking. "That is bottom of the barrel scrap. For what you want me to do, I just might take your services for myself."
"I can do that!" Ace squawked, trying and failing not to sound as desperate as he felt. "As long as I'm not slaving away for that guy, I don't care!"
Finn regarded him with a bemused expression.
"And why would I want that?" He asked. "You slack off and put up a fight, Mister Trappola. Why would I agree to this when I could make the same deal with someone more obedient?"
"I- Well, I- I'll listen to you!'
Finn cocked his head to the side. "Can you prove it?"
"Yeah! If you just give me a chance, then I'll-"
"A trial period, then?" Finn asked, humming thoughtfully as Ace frantically nodded his head. "That's not a bad idea. How about this. I'll give you, ah, about a month. Do what I ask of you, and if you behave and meet my expectations, we'll negotiate further terms from there, and I'll see if I can convince Azul to release you. Deal?"
"D- wait. Do I have to do all that on top of my work as an anenome?"
Ah, so he wasn't that stupid, then. Finn hummed. "Yes. I won't be unreasonable, but you will be giving up more of your free time. Of course, whether it's something worth giving up is up to you."
Ace went quiet, quite an unusual thing for someone like him, as he pondered his options. Although Yuu was confident they could somehow find a way to get rid of the anenome, Ace wasn't too sure. He certainly couldn't get rid of it himself, and Jade and Floyd weren't going to help him unless a miracle happened.
The other anenomes and Octavinelle students didn't want to risk coming under fire, and his own dorm leader was a bit too enthusiastic at the idea of him suffering the consequences of his actions. The professors seemed uninterested in doing anything about Azul at all.
That just left... Finn. Ace could either A. Slave away until Azul completed his education at Night Raven, losing sleep and energy and the will to live, or B. Slave away while also doing things for Finn for one month, and if he impressed Finn enough then maybel he'd have a chance of losing his anenome and just doing stuff for Finn, who was quite notably not running an entire cafe, instead. Ace much preferred those odds, slim as they were.
Ace looked back at Finn, wincing at those piercing eyes, and nodded. "Deal."
There was a brief pause, and Ace became painfully aware of the fact that Finn still hadn't let him go.
"Uh-" Ace pulled, though it was futile against Finn's iron grip. "You can let me go now-"
Finn tightened his hold and pulled Ace down so they were eye level. "We're not leaving it at that, Mister Trappola." He hissed. "Hold still."
Ace couldn't bite down the shriek of surpise and mild pain that left him as Finn's free hand scratched at his skin with nails that seemed a little longer than they were before. A tiny droplet of blood bloomed on the surface of his skin, red against peach.
"Ow, what the hell-"
"Shut up." Finn growled. He swiped the droplet away with his pointer finger so that it stained his own skin. Then, he began to... well, Ace wasn't too sure what it was doing, but it looked like he was drawing a picture in the air.
Ace opened his mouth to ask Finn what the hell he was doing, but his mouth clicked shut as sparks of scarlet began to appear before his very eyes.
Ace watched in silent awe as Finn began to draw a circle of scarlet around the spot where he gripped Ace's wrist, then drew some weird symbols Ace couldn't recognise inside that circle
The pentragram-sigil-glyph-thing?- hovered like that, quivering. It made Ace feel a bit nauseous just looking at it.
Finn murmured something too quiet for Ace to hear, and the cursed circle thing pulsed, then disappeared.
"What..." Ace almost couldn't find his words for a moment. When Finn finally released his grip, the card soldier cradled his aching wrist . "What the hell was that?! That's no magic I've ever seen!"
"That," Finn said slowly, feeling the side of the teapot and frowning. "Is a binding. To ensure you keep your word. I don't make contracts like Azul."
"Is that some kind of second year spell I haven't heard about?" Ace's mouth was moving almost immediately. "Ugh, I knew my brother was hiding some cool kooky stuff from me-"
"No." Finn's curt response stopped Ace short and blinked at Finn.
"No?"
"No." Finn repeated. "You won't learn that here."
"Where did you learn that, then?"
Finn said nothing, and Ace, upon realising he wouldn't be getting a response, instead asked, "What does that do, exactly?"
"I just told you, it ensures you keep your word," Finn replied, tapping his pen against the teapot to reheat the now lukewarm water.
Ace furrowed his brows, tracing over the bruises Finn left on his poor wrist, red slowly turning purplish.
"What happens if... if I don't?"
Finn put his pen away and tilted his head at Ace. Then, he smiled. His teeth, still not fully visible to Ace, gleamed in the light. It was an... unnerving sight. Ace wasn't sure if he had ever seen Finn smile before. If this was his smiles really looked like then, well, he understood why.
"I don't think it'll come to that." Finn said softly. "But if it does... you'll be wishing you never spoke to me at all. Now, off you go. You've wasted enough of my time."
Ace hesitated for a moment, but the dull aching of his wrist was a good reminder to listen. He scrambled for the door, mumbling his goodbyes, and vanished into the fray of staff and customers beyond the kitchen.
He leaned against the wall in one of the furthest corners of the lounge, panting a little from his run. As he tried to calm down and tried to collect himself for the next shift that was bound to start soon, he wondered if he had perhaps made a mistake of some kind.
Unbeknownst to Ace, Azul Ashengrotto was leaning against the doors to the kitchen, smiling at Finn with that sharp smile only Azul was capable of.
"When I noticed you hadn't come, I didn't expect to find you terrorising poor Ace." He said without a hint of sympathy. "What a magnificent display, Finn. I didn't realise you finally got that binding spell right."
Finn laughed. "Hah, no. That's far too advanced for me. Papa's helped best he can, but I'm not quite there yet. Doesn't matter, though, Mister Trappola seems quite convinced it's real, and that's good enough for me. Besides, it wasn't all for show."
Finn held up the hand he'd been grasping Ace with, a large smile spreading onto his face and displaying all his teeth to his unflinching housewarden and... partner.
"I have a new voice now."

Adam and Sabbath got about five minutes of peace before Lucifer got bored and came into the kitchen.
Sabbath kept an eye on him the whole time, but hard to call Adam over when he started to climb some of the shelves.
Asam: This isn't Eden, dumbass! You can't just climb shit! If you break my cabinets, you're dead.
Lucifer settled himself in Adam's arms: Oh, don't be dramatic! I wasn't going to break anything! Mm, you're really warm~.
Adam glared: Hellfire. What do you expect.
He dumped Lucifer down into one of the stool at the kitchen island and went back to the stove to work. Fortunately for Lucifer, that meant Adam was standing in front of him. Facing away. So he had a nice view of his ass. Which looked even better in track pants.
Lucifer: I expected nothing less~.
Sabbath glanced at Lucifer and was definitely worried. His lord wouldn't like that luctful look he has on his face. But he'd rather Adam stay calm, so he didn't mention it.
After an hour of cooking, Adam started dishing up, that's when his eyes slowly went to Lucifer.
Adam: ...You leaving?
Lucifer: Nope~.
Adam sighed: Fuck sakes... do you want some dinner, then?
Lucifer: Sure, as long as you're in the menu~.
Adam turned to Sabbath: Note: When Lucifer's sad, he gets horny. And when he gets horny, I don't want to deal with him.
Sabbath: Yes, sir!
Lucifer cooed at Sabbaths little notebook as he started writing something down.
Lucifer had been at Adam's for nearly nineteen hours, Adam swore he was about to lose his mind.
Adam: Are you really sure you don't have anywhere important to be?
Lucifer: Very sure! Charlotte is at this random building she told me about, but I don't remember, and my servants felt tears ago, and my wife... well, we know that story, don't we?
Adam: Yeah, we do. Okay... well, I'm going to bed. You can crash anywhere. Big house, lots of rooms, take your pick.
Lucifer smiled and wished Adam good night. Oh, he knew exactly what bed he was going to be staying in.
I need an au where Adam is the sin of Wrath. And you know he's a fucking giant. But he has multiple forms, so it's manageable.
So, when he dies, wanted of going to Heaven, he falls to hell because of his anger, and becomes the Sin of Wrath.
He hates the meetings because he had to deal with Lucifer, every meeting. He was definitely the next bastard in charge once Lucifer went into his depression slump.
But unfortunately for him, Lucifer has his number and always calls him, crying.
---
Adam groaned when his phone rang.
Adam: What Lucifer? I'm busy.
Lucifer cries: I miss my wife!
Adam sighs, putting his hand on hip: I'm making cookies, Lucifer. Is that the only reason you called?
Adam was about to hang up when it was completely silent on the other end, but Lucifer spoke as he was pulling the phone away from his ear.
Lucifer: W-What kind of cookies?
Adam: ...Chai.
Lucifer cries again: Lilith loves Chai!
Adam: Fuck sakes...
Adam: So do I ..... She's not special...
Lucifer just cries and Adam sighs.
Adam: Would you like a cookie?
Because even though he's the Sin of Wrath he's also really nice. And Sabbath his anger management assistant is setting up crystals
Lucifer: Yeah.....

November Reading Recap
Dead Astronauts by Jeff Vandermeer. Either I'm not smart enough to follow this book or it's just not terribly coherent as a novel, and either of those is equally possible, to be honest. I am finding that I like Vandermeer's earlier work on the whole more than his later work, though.
I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle. A fun romp. It didn't blow me away, or anything, but it was a lot of fun.
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I remain most attached to the move adaptation of this novel, unfortunately, so that's always in my head when I'm reading. But despite that, or maybe because of it, this novel still delights me. It's like a warm blanket.
Catching Chen Qing Ling: The Untamed and Adaptation, Production, and Reception in Transcultural Contexts ed. by Cathy Yue Wang and Maria K. Alberto. I was very excited to read this book! I was thrilled when I saw that a collection of academic essays on The Untamed was coming out. Not all the essays in the collection are created equally, naturally, but I particularly appreciated the ones about the morality police in the fandom and the one focusing on (the violence of) translation to English. What I missed from this specific volume was more analysis of the text itself as a literary object, but that wasn't the remit of this collection, and I certainly hope that more studies will be forthcoming.
Cassiel's Servant by Jacqueline Carey. Mostly this book made me want to reread the Kushiel's Legacy series; I'm not sure if that is praise or an enticement of this book itself. I wasn't enchanted with it on the whole, though that might be because Joscelin was never the character I was most attached to. I would read the shit out of an alt POV from Melisande.
Golden Witchbreed by Mary Gentle. Finally finished this book after stalling out on it for literal months. It was interesting! Conceptually and in execution. It did feel very much like it was written in the 80s (which it was), though without the kind of objectionable stuff I would've expected. A review of it did describe it as having a "leisurely opening" which I would say is accurate.
Devils Kill Devils by Johnny Compton. I really liked The Spite House so I definitely wanted to pick up this one, and while I liked the former more this was also a really fun take on vampires unlike what I've read before. I'm picky about my horror (I'd say I don't like most of what I read) but I'll bestow the "horror I actually liked" crown on this one.
Persians: The Age of the Great Kings by Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones. For a book that was really emphasizing that it was going to lean on Persian sources rather than Greek ones for a less Greek-biased version of Persian history, it certainly felt like the author ended up relying a fair amount on Greek sources. That being said, I learned more about the (early) Persian Empire than I have before, so it was edifying in that way, if not a particularly outstanding book.
Blood of the Old Kings by Sung-Il Kim, trans. Anton Hur. I'm very glad to see that this book is apparently the beginning of a series and not finished, because while I enjoyed it as a whole the ending felt a little rushed and far too neat for me. So hopefully that will be complicated in further volumes, which I probably will read. The use of dead necromancers to power an empire is, on its own, a very neat worldbuilding conceit, and I think that (interesting worldbuilding) more than character is the appeal of this work to me.
Remnants of Filth: Vol. 5 by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou. I continue to really enjoy this one despite the fact that the initial lure has abated somewhat in the course of the plot. I'm excited to see where this goes - this volume included a plot twist I definitely didn't see coming, which is always fun. It's not my favorite danmei I've read but it is a standout.
Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones. I don't know quite why I keep reading this series when I'm not really a slasher fan and it is clearly tailored toward the slasher fan. I mean, it's certainly meant to have broader appeal as a horror novel, but it is a slasher first and foremost, and I'm just not that into that subgenre. I think it's because I want to be into it. I can recognize a good book when I read one, though; just not for me.
I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones. On the other hand, the above all being said: I actually really enjoyed this one! It was certainly playing with a lot of the same tropes but in a more, idk, playful sort of way that I enjoyed. Definitely heavy lampshading, so if that doesn't work for you then this book won't. But for me at least, it did what it was trying to do.
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester. I'm looking forward to hearing what people in my book club have to say about this one. I will say that the rape felt unnecessary and it definitely read like sci-fi written in the 50s by a man. I don't think I can say that I liked it. I'm not sure I can say I hated it, either, but I definitely didn't like it.
Vita Nostra by Marina & Sergey Dyachenko, trans. Julia Meitov Hersey. I've had this one on my shelf for a long time and it was good to finally read it! For someone who says she doesn't read a lot of 'magical school' books I've certainly read a lot this year, but this one is probably the most interesting and definitely the most inventive of what I've read. Not necessarily my favorite, but I'm fascinated by what the author is doing. I know there's a sequel, and I'm torn on whether I want to read it or not; I'm curious where the author would go, but I'm also satisfied with the story as it's left at the end of this book.
Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire by Priest. Possibly my favorite danmei I've read, and at this point I've read a few. It's not going to trigger my fic writing brain, I don't think, but that's mostly because it already gave me so much of what I wanted. It's very, very good in terms of the story it's telling, the themes of monstrosity and human weapons are right on point for what I like, and the plot is pretty damn tight and good at not sprawling the way some danmei is prone to. Fucking fantastic. I can't share the translation I read, but it's being published by Rosmei in English starting in January 2025.
---
I'm currently reading Challenger by Adam Higginbotham for a little bit of nonfiction (my first in a while, you may notice); after that I'm not sure what I'm going to read. I'm traveling at the end of this month, so it'll be a little dependent on what's on my Kobo/if the sequel to Feast of Souls by C.S. Friedman arrives in time/what books I find that I want to read at my parents' house.

We think of love and our mind conjures up spring mornings and rainy afternoons. No one expects love to find them in the middle of a dead winter night. But that's how you found me babe. In the midst of long frosty days when i couldn't see the sun come up the horizon. When the skies were as dim as the insides of my heart. One evening I found you staring at me from across a room full of strangers and my heart fluttered like a bird coming back to life. I remember that moment like yesterday. I remember that blush on your cheek, those starry black eyes and the straight-est winged eyeliner i had ever seen. I can recall you making a joke of it later that night and saying "baby no, that's the gayest eyeliner you've ever seen" i remember how we danced to paris in your living room and how you made me laugh till i passed out around four in the morning with your hand in mine. I woke up to you looking at me and saw your eyes brimming with something so passionate that i wanted to drown in them. It wasn't love at first sight but it was definitely love at first night. Everything came so easy with you as if i had known you my entire life. You already seemed to know what I liked, what I didn't, you would finish my sentences when I was still forming them in my head. I remember thanking the heavens because I couldn't believe how lucky I had been to find you. You turned my frostbitten days into something warm and golden. Suddenly, the little things mattered again, your laugh echoing in my head long after we'd said goodbye, the way your voice softened when you said my name. Babe no one has ever made my name sound as pretty as you did. The way your hand fit so perfectly in mine, as if the universe had carved us from the same whole. It was all magical. We were clumsy at first, tripping over each other's histories, piecing together the parts of us that had been broken before. But you didn't mind my scars, and I cherished the cracks in you because they let the light seep through. Every stolen glance, every whispered confession, every shared silence, it felt like building a cathedral from rubble. And yet, it wasn't work. It wasn't effort. It was ease. It was home. You taught me that love isn't always loud; sometimes it's the quiet certainty of knowing someone is there. You made me believe that even in the dead of winter, flowers can bloom, and hearts can thaw. And though the season has changed since that first night, and the world has kept turning, the glow you brought into my life hasn't dimmed. I still wake up some mornings and wonder if I imagined it all, if I conjured you in the haze of my desperation. But then I see us in a frame every morning when i open my cupboards and you're there reminding me of how magical it was. How beautiful it could have been. You linger in some corners I don't like revisiting often. I never understood why you had to leave until you did. I was sure we were meant to last a bit longer. It wasn't just love at first night; it was a promise. One I never knew I was waiting to make until I did. The frame sits heavy like your memories in my heart. I don't know when winters will stop smelling like you.

sometimes I forget that my experience has been. um. not 'your experiences are not universal' vibes but more like 'your experiences are EXTREMELY atypical'
#red said#recent events have reminded me that my life has involved like. a LOT of other people's psychosis#like not in a way where i have been Beset By Terrifying Crazies bc that's not like. a thing.#but a lot of people in my life have had a lot of really severe psychotic episodes#and i FORGET sometimes. that actually that is an Unusual Amount Of Experience With Psychosis for someone who's not#for somebody who has not really personally ever had psychotic episodes (unless severe PTSD flashbacks count)#actually i tell a lie i have maybe had One psychotic episode but because it was very situational and i knew what was happening#i was able to ride it out. because i am literally only psychotic Inside Hospitals and so that's all fine#as long as i LITERALLY NEVER HAVE TO HAVE INPATIENT CARE. Very important to me to never ever ever require surgery i think.#i can handle the amount of psychosis i get from a 1-4 hour stopoff in hospital#as long as i know I'm leaving soon then i can just Cope with the fact that the walls are moving and reality is thin#ANYWAY that's not the point the point is i forget! that most ppl i know have experience of at most a handful of severe psychotic episodes#some people i know have experienced more for sure. especially if the episodes were mostly theirs.#but people really seem to expect me to be more freaked out by their symptoms of psychosis than i am#bc i don't think i really register it as frightening unless they're in actual danger or Currently Aggressing Actually At Me#like i WORRY about them bc it can super suck but it's not SHOCKING or WEIRD#there have definitely been times ive been frightened. one time i woke up in the night and my friend was standing over me with a knife#but also like he was still HIM he was just having a moment. and as soon as i got the knife off him he just came back and broke down.#and we were fine and he was safe and i learnt the valuable lesson that even when people seem like they wanna kill you they probably don't#tbf now I'm thinking about it it's honestly a tossup whether he was there to threaten or because he felt a need to guard us#like to be clear probably don't try and take a knife off someone having a psychotic break. i was 17 and it was 3am and i knew him very well#i probably did not make the smartest call but nobody got hurt is the point#anyway you know there's that kind of psychotic episode and my granny got very violently angry a few times. buuuut you know there's also#been plenty of other times I've been with somebody having an episode and it's been chill as hell.#my ex saw and heard monsters so much that eventually she just got sick of being scared. we used to watch TV with them#i would sometimes have to sit on a bit of sofa that wasn't haunted and we might not be able to watch certain things bc they didn't like it#most of the time she was hallucinating there was absolutely nothing to worry about we just had a few extra variables#honestly of everyone i know who's had psychotic episodes or schizophrenia the amount of times it's been a material risk#is like. low single figures? maybe low double if you include self harm but idk what the cause and effect is there.#idk why you would need to be frightened like 99.99% of the time it truly is usually just Oh No That Seems Distressing For You I'm Sorry

"A liquidator. When a company is insolvent, I end its affairs."
She inadvertently focused on the liquid part of the word, each additional thought appearing soupy, with watery edges in her mind; at the same time, her romanticized thought of Rem in a van overstuffed with used and new vacuum cleaners melted away, and she was forced to look at him for the first time with graspable definitions.
Paling, she felt as if she'd asked too much -- she was afraid to know more. Lynn had decided she wouldn't share their topics of conversations, yet she could almost picture how the debriefing would go if their past appointments had differed, if she was still nosing for information for Patchett.
What was Pierce doing trying to blackmail a liquidator? It had to be Cohen related but it felt t.reasonous to think as much.
I don't want to know, she told herself, repeating the statement over again in her head.
She was struggling to acclimate to how much of herself she'd bared before him tonight; she wasn't sure if she could stomach him baring more of himself... wiping her freshly sweaty palms on the fabric of her thighs, she offered a close-lipped smile, more to reassure herself.
"I had dinner before I arrived."
She blinked, the abruptness of the statement unexpected. Memories reminded her that he typically ate after their meetings and unsure what answer he expected for his change in schedule, she blurted dumbly,
"What did you have to eat?"
And then he said it: "I will leave at my usual time," and Lynn's world felt no different than liquid, melting away.
She didn't want him to go.
Perhaps it was foolish, senseless, but since their last meeting, since their odd string of admissions, of lent trust to one another... she'd felt like a child with a new toy on Christmas morning; it was the same level of unadulterated giddiness, the kind that made it difficult to keep a smile at bay.
She found herself parroting past statements, "You pay to spend the night," but what sort of enticement was that? He hadn't wanted to sleep with Veronica Lake, so why did that make her any different? Did she even want to sleep with him? -- whatever they'd done on the couch was long forgotten, an outlier, at least in her mind -- It was a question she hadn't the privilege of asking for so long... she would do it, but did she want to? She wasn't even sure she was capable of differentiating anymore.
A breathy laugh, "I feel like a bad hostess. All I can think to ask is, do you like board games?" She smiled before even that sentiment faded from her expression.
What she offered next was against all her better judgement,
"Do you want to go out?" I don't think Pierce would find out... but she didn't say that last part. She'd make him not find out, and even if he did... well she didn't want to think of that; all these worries, these what ifs were making her head ache. "I want to go out. Not outside on the back patio. Out."
You’re laughing at me.
No. His expression flattened, remnants of fleeting amusement leveled behind a mask of indifference. No more than myself.
You make me do all the talking during these things. You make me lose my train of thought.
Such sentiments had marked different stages of his life, dating to adolescence- how his silence unsettled, how his presence unnerved, devoid of social cues others relied on. Yet overseas, amidst gunfire and devastation, these traits became an asset- one exploited until there was no panic, no hesitation- only calculated precision. But this detachment came at a cost: years spent in Europe long after the war ended. Traits previously condemned had become cemented, and with it, a strange kind of acceptance. Able to recognize those who were truly bothered by him- frightened even- and those at ease. In most cases.
Lynn's tone was different from the men he was used to. It wasn't burdened by striking discomfort; it was light, accompanied by a smile- one aimed directly at him.
One day you’ll find someone who either doesn’t mind your quirks or makes you want to tweak them. A sentiment long dismissed despite its intended positivity. But now, as he observed her sink into the mattress, tension slipping away, the thought lingered. Unrealistic.
Okay then, since you're paying to see me tonight, should we consider this our first date?
His brows rose imperceptibly, dark gaze snapping to her at the word date. Initial conclusions deemed it humor, whether due to the confines of their arrangement or because he was…well, himself. He put the cigarette back in its holder, his expression remaining neutral as she pressed on.
Are you a lawyer?
No. Too much travel. Too little explanation.
A doctor?
No bedside manner. Feasible if the tattoos were military.
A businessman?
Safe. Simple.
He paused. "A liquidator. When a company is insolvent, I end its affairs." An explanation adopted years ago- overheard on a subway platform in New York, tucked away for future use. It was an answer that left little room for further questions, unlike his usual response, Analyst, which most people followed up with, What kind? The answer was always: finance. And the conversation ended there. The notion of a liquidator felt more honest, a step closer to the truth without revealing the violence beneath, leaving details vague. But why change the answer at all? Why offer even a grain of truth to someone whose employer was already digging into his private life?
"I had dinner before I arrived." He spoke abruptly, an attempt to fill silence. It was an admission, though not one he planned. Earlier in the week, he'd learned his usual café was shortening its hours, so he'd eaten earlier than usual. The change was minor, but eliminated the need for his typical departure time. "I will leave at my usual time."
#a weekly tryst#noiranamnesis#lynn x rem#// THE AWKWARD PAIR i scream xDDD#they truly are and they're better for it *snorts*#1950s rem is endearingly awkward as always xD it's like no time has passed

friend of mine recently KIND OF told me she's in love with me but what she actually said was "my husband thinks i'm in love with you." got off on a technicality.
#she was like he thinks i'm in love with you but i don't know if i am because i don't know what 'in love' means#which is valid and i don't know either lol. and the definition of 'romantic' love is something we've discussed before#as two people on the aro spectrum#also it didn't come as a surprise at all. like i didn't know that her husband thought that but. my other friends think she's in love with m#so it was on my radar#anyway it was still very frustrating because i was like dude what am i supposed to do with this information#we are working on that currently. where she gives me information and then immediately tells me why she's giving it to me#because i just assume that if someone gives me information they expect me to do something with it. and she almost never does?#we have like. polar opposite communication styles lol it is quite an experience we are having#she certainly feels some type of way about me but whether it is the same thing allo people feel in romantic relationships is unclear#but does it matter? like does it matter though. i don't feel the same way and she knows that#anyway. i didn't throw up on her because a) it wasn't a surprise and b) she used this interesting framing device#to deflect everything onto her husband lol#my posts

transmascs stop pretending that transfems are untrustworthy sources for transfeminism challenge impos- fuck i didn't even finish and you already complained about our terminology
#i really hate the expectation to know theory in these shit communities#they're barely communities it feels like on here trans people are unified by strict categorization#constantly infinitely expanding definitions but treating them as immutable and emergent from the core of reality#rather that words used to describe things we experience or the positions we are placed in my transphobic society#we're unified by who is mean to us more than wether or not we actually like each other#and so we must always be ready to litigate our position in these spaces#because they must be Definitionally justified rather than just having a real community where we're treated like human beings#i wish we still had our elders... i wish we weren't so adverse to learning humanly#i wish i could escape the weird black and white fandom thinking but it worms it's way into every community here now#this is why i keep lamenting old t4t spaces#we weren't there to argue theory#we weren't opposed to learning it in fact it was useful and joyful to share with each other#to help describe our experiences and understand where we've been placed in the world#but that's not why we were there#we were there for community to be kind to each other#now it's nothing but a bunch of teenage fandom tme people arguing with fake versions of trans women they invented in their heads#while we just hide in the background wondering if the word community means something different now#or if we're really just so evil to our very cores that we were foolish to think we could have community in the first place#sorry just#needed to vent this shit has been in my head for a while#i wasn't in a place to go to gay bars or trans events when i was first here#i couldn't have local community so finding one here with transfems who loved each other#it was so important to me#and learning that i could cater to that small but kind audience in my sex work is what made me finally love doing it#before then i'd been doing it purely cuz i couldn't get any other job#and before that because i was forced to#there's a lot of trauma wrapped up in my work for me but i healed from it largely because of my sisters i found on here#but i don't know when it went away but it did#and now it feels like we're left in a massive crowd of screaming voices#and i don't recognize any of them anymore

I don´t think that he immediately thinks of that possibility Even if that were to change, this might be a huge leap for him. So I can understand, that he was not dead set on it from the start. Also, I doubt that he was able to develop such strong feelings or even infatuation asap, as the whole plan put him under immense pressure. I do believe that this thought had never crossed his mind previously.
Oh, I completely agree. He was given merely a few days to consider her feelings, which was a huge leap from a status quo that had lasted for over 15 years, if not longer. There was no time to develop anything.
Actually, part of the reason Su-Won likely never considered the idea is because Yona never confessed to him earlier. Of course, it's not entirely her fault, she had no idea about the coup. But I can't help but wonder why Yona only actually attempted to inquire more about who Su-Won was with or make a move on him once she was over 15.
I understand if she was afraid he did not reciprocate, but in fact she had already known this since the start and expected nothing from him. Was she worried that it would jeopardize their friendship? Or maybe it has to do with how little she actually knew about him or actually tried to understand him?
Hak got that Su-Won was clueless about love, but whatever reason, Yona seemed to have an initial opposite impression, that Su-Won was some kind of Casanova who probably had affairs with multiple of women, while treating her like a kid...
But I mean, if that's how she saw the situation, start asking him out or freaking move on to someone else (Hak would be first in line instead of suffering an unrequited love lol)? The most it seems she did over the years was try and fail to impress Su-Won by.... dressing up as a princess... which she already should be doing?
Indeed, Hak was so sure that they would eventually marry, and he wished for Su-Won to be the king and work with him... but Yona did not think about Su-Won as a proper candidate for the throne to rule over the country or anything like that. I don't know what sort of future she even envisioned with him. Maybe she thought about being a mother or something, but given how immature she was, I doubt she thought that far.
She knew he did not see her that way, she was never even sure if marriage was even in the cards for them, and she didn't really even know him that well, in retrospect.
It never would have worked out between us is definitely not something Hak would have thought. But Yona did. Hak thinks Yona should proclaim that she has her heart set on Su-Won. However Yona was always uncertain to say so.
And so the thought really comes... maybe the reason Su-Won saw her as a child is partly because Yona never tried to make a move until it was too late... and that's maybe because she wasn't really that serious about him... maybe she thought she was... but her immaturity, her failure to take proper initiative says a lot... she clung onto feelings without actually attempting to explore them.
Indeed, Soo Won might have merely had this whimsy plan merely that he realized that it might be possible for him to marry Yona, to look at her as a woman
"Whimsy" is the perfect way to describe it, because once again:
This statement could imply that he may have once entertained a "careless" notion of marrying Yona simply to keep his friends close. It seems he had no specific criteria for a spouse, other than that they had to be a woman, rather than how good of a ruler they were. And it does go along with the realization that Yona was a woman in chapter 1 and therefore was now an option.
What is Yona saying in that bubble then?
This translation is the right one.
That is even more mysterious! Because the place is actually pretty good for giving her a birthday present. why did Soo Won phrase it like this: "sorry about this place".... more or less emphasizing that his gift is special...and then the gift is also a hairpin, that more or less has some romantic implication (I have read in a thread on some other website that the hairpin is a gift usually given in a romantic contexte).
What's even more interesting is that he previously said a similar line:
"Hak will be angry at the two of us being alone together in this kind of place"—referring to his chambers—I agree that even before Yona's confession, he suggests both of them have moved beyond childhood, and the situation is inappropriate.
The original Japanese has his next comment "sorry about this kind of place" said in pretty much the same way. And after their interaction, they're interrupted by Hak.
*correcting translation, this place is literally 'this kind of place'
So is Su-Won apologizing about spending alone time with Yona/giving a hairpin, which couples tend to do? Is he doing it consciously or unconsciously?
Now, I'm not saying that Su-Won thought Yona was trying to cheat on her "fiancé" with him on a whim and he's apologizing about going behind Hak's back lmao! Regardless this scene definitely gives off the vibe that Su-Won thinks he’s been caught in the act by Hak, doing something he shouldn't be, that being alone with Yona here isn't exactly "proper" behavior. Is it because he's killing her dad in a few hours and he feels guilty? Is it something else?
And what's also funny is that there is actually a similar scene, where Hak is trying to make a move on Yona, but the hairpin is in the middle. A symbolic representation that Su-Won's presence is still felt by Hak and Yona, even though he is physically not actually present.
So the manga will likely end with a 12th king/queen of Kouka.
Most likely. It's possible that a flower crown could be for something else, but I would be inclined to think it is about a queen. It was the first thing I thought about when I read it.
Another quite interesting thing to note is how Yona was buried underneath thousands of flowers just recently... "blessed with overflowing happiness" also sounds like how Kouka can also be translated as a prosperous kingdom.
Even Yona's name in the Korean version of the manga is Yeon-hwa 연화 (which could take from Chinese characters 妍華, meaning beautiful flower).
妍 means pretty, and this 華 character can once again mean flowers, prosperity, etc. and it is not only seen in the name Yeon-hwa but also 高華 Kouka.
Hak also described Yona in the manga as この国の最も華やか meaning the most beautiful/splendid/flourishing princess in the country. Also, Yon-hi's notebook had a flower bookmark which Yona came across.
Are all these coincidences or deliberate? I'm going to wait and see what other flower imagery there was or will be.
The "dawn" and Yona´s red hair play into Yona´s very being...So maybe it was just a manga about a princess learning that her father had fucked up and becoming a queen in the process?
Possible. Would this mean the dragon warriors did not exist back then? After all, colors are quite important in this story.
Soo Won limited him and Yona touching...
I agree, he is generally not a touchy person.
That said, touching Yona's hair is not something new to him. He patted her head on several occasions, ruffled her hair, and saying that he liked her hair is an opinion he has had since the age of 2. Saying that on her birthday is quite normal for him. Maybe it took on another shape that day, though. Yona saw it in a more romantic way... and Su-Won probably realized only later how his actions unwittingly sparked those feelings in her.
That leads me to the conclusion, that Soo Won giving her the hairpin, touching her hair, complimentin her to it and staring at her in a daze, very well has the implication that Soo Won at least had budding feelings of romance towards Yona.
Yeah, even if it doesn't fully lean into romance, touching and calling features about her pretty, staring at her, as well stating that sleeping with her became impossible—all implies a budding physical/sexual attraction or at the very least a new awareness of her as a woman.
And I do think that awareness didn't disappear. As he even told Hak recently, he does make a distinction between the current Yona who has actively tried to understand and support him and the nation, vs the older immature little sister version who he thought was incapable of leadership and marriage. He treated both of these versions almost as if they were two different people, and Hak had to call him out.
does not circle his arms around her.
It does happen one more time in Awa. However it's now framed differently from how Su-Won once thought. Judo thinks of it as flirting, embarrassing him.
Yona thinks of Su-Won as the one whose arms she once had dreamed feeling around her.
And Judo brings up the moment later, and Joon-gi accuses him of being improper. Obviously Su-Won did not intend to be at all, but perhaps he realized that he has probably been clueless to how others may view his actions.
Su-Won's sexuality is a topic that he has not explored, nor seems to have any intention to. But it is clear at least, that he did become conscious of Yona as a woman, albeit very late. How much that actually factored into his decisions before the coup is uncertain, and honestly I am not that sure it did, but it is something to consider.
Ever since Su-Won made the decision to make Yona the queen and Yona heard of it from Hak instead of him, I've been quite curious about what they'll say to one another when they finally meet face to face again. I don't know, I feel like that encounter just going to be different from all the others, intense. Because both have acknowledged her as his equal, just not directly to one another yet.
First there’s a political side. Whether Yona wants the throne, whether Su-Won really wants to pass it down. There is also the emotional side.
Yona remained calm (though disgusted) when she commented that Su-Won was selfish, but that was still from a distance. Which is why I can't shake the thought that Yona could be absolutely livid if Su-Won actually manages to enter the chalice (especially if it's with some intention to "save" Yona and "sacrifice" himself like some fear).
If it happens, can we get a scene where she slaps his face? Tells him to snap the fuck out of it? Stop making all these selfish decisions for her? To not put her on a pedestal and be so suicidal all of a sudden? That she's not a damsel in distress who needs saving, that she'll find a way to make the dragon gods to understand? Because such a scene will actually be a good subversion of expectations. Kusanagi has done it before, so this would be a great opportunity.
I mean Yona's already said it in her mind. "Don't you dare die as you please. Rely on those around you." She even said it to Hyu-ri. She just has to actually say those words to Su-Won himself.
Yona did disappoint me in the recent chapter because she became quite literally a damsel in distress (how else are we supposed to describe her in that scene), but a hypothetical scene like this would make up for it. It would return her agency. And honestly I've been dying to see a scene where Yona just lets all the resentment out instead of constantly suppressing it for the country or because she wants to be the better person. The dragon gods said she was also selfish, so let's see that side show a bit more.

And Then We Danced / და ჩვენ ვიცეკვეთ (2019), dir. Levan Akin
#ATWD amateur guidebook
Soundtrack & Lyrics - Part 5 [go to: Prologue, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4]
[Note: Most of this film music corresponds with what's happening on the screen. The less characters are speaking - the more traditional folk tunes take their turn in commenting the events. Old songs are fitting so good that the story becomes universal "tale as old as time". Lyrics translation usually comes from Google Translator and is absolutely awful but I don't speak Georgian so what else could I do]
21. ბინდისფერია სოფელი (Bindis Feria Sofeli)
The village is gradually getting darker What is our life will fly away like a bird Someday the grass will grow on our village
Even those who thought it was hard to walk were briefly looked after. The rust of the gun will eat the rust of the earth, the heart of the man will be sad. Death will come invisible, he will throw away his weapon in a second. What we will take to the world, no one else has taken what.
[The part above is what you can hear in the movie. Below is the part that is not in the movie but I suppose is well known to Georgian audience]
I will recite the poem to you and it will be good for me to die And you will remain here as a memory of me They used to tell me that they were just like me Let the country rejoice and I die in the grave Those who are right like me will listen to the voice of panduri Don't fall apart, don't get married
[Note: 1. Lyrics I found at genius.com 2. It's worth to realize that this is one of the moments in the movie with very distinctive contrast of mood between music and the movie scene: we can see a theoretically joyfull wedding scene and Merabi's face changing from numb to overhelmed with joy - yet the song in the background speaks about death and its inevitability. Is this contrast meant to only emphasize that the wedding is actually not so joyful since it's for "saving girl's honour"? Or that Merabi's feelings are closer to grief than joy? But even when his face changes, the song keeps on going - is that to suggest that love and hope is stronger than the vision of death? or rather that this love is hopeless? You decide (Anyway - Sunrise Sunset this ain't...)]

22. Qalaquri 1 & 2
[Note: the title means "urban" but I have no idea what exact song (songs) were used in a movie. I can hear them but I can't understand a thing so I can't tell how much important this might be. IF YOU'RE GEORGIAN AND YOU KNOW WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT - I WOULD LOVE YOU TO TELL ME!❤️ - The song is at 1h 28min of this Facebook reel)
23. განდაგანა (Gandagana)
(for the meaning - read Note below)
[Note: this time I don't think it's wise to pay attention to literal translation of Gandagana because this song seems to have much more metaphorical meaning in this particular movie scene than in any other before. That kind of direct "translation" you can find at lyricstranslate.com but these sentences doesn't seem to make much deeper sense for the average outside-Georgia viewer. Better check out these interpretations below (and note that the exact moment the "Tarnanani ninano" can be heard in the movie is right before Merab's "Congratulations"):
1. according to this page: "Gandagana" is a traditional Georgian folk song about love and longing. The lyrics tell the story of two lovers who can't be together due to their families, so they express their emotions through longing and sadness. The chorus repeats the words "Tarnanani ninano" which can be roughly translated to mean "Forever we will be apart." The song reflects the difficulty of love in a time where young lovers were not always able to choose their partners, and the pain and sorrow of having to separate.
2. Overall Meaning - according to this source: The song seems to explore themes of love, longing, and the complexities of relationships. The opening lines, "Gogov gogov kiskisa, Ak chamodi tsklis pirsa, Tskali masvi kokita, Gamadzgeni kocnita," can be loosely translated as "Go, go, dear little one, Like a flame, you ignite my soul, Like a thunderstorm, you strike me." These lines express the intense and passionate nature of the relationship being described. It suggests that the presence of the beloved person has a powerful impact on the singer, evoking feelings of excitement and desire. The following lines, "Tarnanani ninano, Tskals napoti Cmaohkonda," continue the exploration of love and longing. "Tarnanani" is a word that can be interpreted as a yearning or longing, while "napoti" means a missing or longing. So, the phrase could convey a sense of the singer's deep yearning for their loved one. "Cmaohkonda" might refer to a specific place or a metaphorical state representing the separation or distance between the two individuals. The later verses delve into the complexities of the relationship, describing emotional challenges and the struggle to find balance. Lines like "Kibis uku debelio, Me ikedan verçamoval" suggest that there might be a conflict or imbalance in the love affair. The lyrics also touch upon the physical and intimate aspects of the relationship, with phrases like "Baxçaşi rom pipinebdi, Pancridan diginaxeo" depicting a sense of affection and desire. Overall, "Gandagana" captures the intense emotions and complexities that can be experienced in a passionate relationship, expressing longing, desire, and the challenges that come with it.
The lyrics comes from lyricstranslate.com

24. ცანგალა და გოგონა (Tsangala Da Gogona)
Tsangala and girl Tsangala.. girl (2)
Tsangala went to the city, And stole grape from there, He didn't share grape with anybody, And digged grave for himself (ashamed himself)
Tsangala and girl Tsangala.. girl (2)
This guy dances well, He stands on halluces, If he hurts his legs, whose fault will it be?
Tsangala and girl Tsangala.. girl (2)
[Note: 1. This song is even more contrasting to the movie scene than the song during wedding scene - Tsangala song is considered really joyfull and most people are dancing and having fun while our character falls into pieces. Could there be any better way to emphasize how lonely and separated Merab feels in his grief? 2. Lyrics was found at lyricstranslate.com ]

25. წინწყარო (Tsintskaro)
I walked by Tsintskaro, Tsintskaro... I met a beautiful woman there, with koka (a jug / picher) on her shoulder. I spoke a word to her and she got offended, got enraged, stepped aside / ran away! (By other translation: kept standing aloof )
[Note: this song was already heard sooner in the movie (morning after Merab's and Irakli's first night) and described in the Part 2. (Special thanks to @notasapleasure for helping me identify that it's the same song)
This time Davit initiates the song right after returing home from his wedding and Merab quietly starts to sing along. It seems to comfort him somehow. Is only the beloved traditional polyphonic song that is comforting or the memory it brings?
I think that, together with the fact that Merab decided not to throw down the Spirited Away poster (the one that got commented by Irakli) as he did with the rest of the posters on his wall - indicates that he still wants to think about Irakli. I think it might suggest that he wants to keep warm memory about him even after giving back the ear-ring (and I'm mentioning it because I've seen some reviews interpreting the ear-ring scene as "it's over", letting go, Merab deciding that he discovered and accepted his own self and doesn't need Irakli anymore. I think that yes, maybe his approach was to be seen as taugh and proud in the eyes of his leaving lover, but it does not necessarily reflect what he really felt nor how hard giving that ring back was for him). Now all that is left is Spirited Away poster. And Tsintskaro.]

26. რა ლამაზია თუშეთი (Ra Lamazia Tusheti)
"How beautiful is Tusheti/Georgia"
How beautiful Tusheti and Lasharoba Tushur are, with twisted horns and a forehead with a candle.
There is a curvy son and a woman crouching on the slope, the water of the wild Alazni singing in the Ewes.
Drinking cold beer with the horn of a stall, barbecuing naked on the fire, fingers dancing on the harmonica of a Tush woman.
I close my eyes, I can still see the necks of the horses and the wolf-clad shepherd boys in the horse's harness.
The blue-dressed pines stand like a bride, I love Dartlo and Chigo mountain, I burn them with love.
How good was Tusheti and Lasharoba Tushur, Chedila with twisted horns, forehead with a candle.
Grilled barbecues cooked on ghadar
[Note: 1. The translation is awful because I could only use google-translator. But the general meaning undoubtly is "How beautiful is Georgia". And I think that's another of the series of music contrasting the movie action. The end of the movie rather leaves us with a feeling of "how untollerant" Georgia is, so the song seems a bit ironical. But let's not forget that Merab actually loves his country and its culture, dances and food... so maybe it's not ironical at all? Georgia is beautiful and young people wish they could love their country freely and not have to plan leaving it for their safety 2. Lyrics source is lyricstranlate.com ]

27. Kinto's Song
I don't know what to do anymore I don't know what to do anymore I have only one heart How can I divide the two? Muhammad and Abdul too I swear to love Both of them fall in love How will it be? One promised me a scarf for love The other one kills himself for my sake I like you both What can I do, what do you want? Love to both Tell me how to separate you Muhammad and Abdul Don't bother me like that my heart and love I am only changing one One promised me a scarf for love The other one kills himself for my sake
[Note: 1. Kintauri and Kinto's culture is so important in the movie I already made SEPARATE POST ABOUT IT and the whole separate tag: #ATWD kintouri trail . To summarise it: kinto were street fruit sellers in Tbilisi in early 20th century, with characteristic clothes and dance (kintouri) and many of them were gay men (though this fact is many times ommited in georgian sources). The "Kinto's song" was found on old x-ray record and it also tells about gay love. This all brings important context to the fact that Merab and Irakli became dance partners of kintouri duo and were dancing parts of this particular dance throughout the whole movie. 2. Once again the translation comes from google-translator and the lyrics from marketer.ge )

28. ბაღში გაგიცან (Baghshi Gagitsan)
I met you in the garden for the first time, I looked at the moon Your throat was like white wine in a glass I looked at it and couldn't stand those twinkling eyes The twinkling light of your eyes turned into a light
Are you born of your mother or are you a fairy flying from the sky? What pen wrote the eyebrows of your eyes If you ordered me, you know what I would do for you I would move the place where you were born to my house
I would like to know, beautiful, where you are staying In which region does such a good fruit grow? If you ordered me, you know what I would do for you I would move the place where you were born to my house
[Note: 1. As crucial as this song is for the whole And Then We Danced movie I was able not find any good translation of this lyrics that would sound satisfying enough. But I have no doubts that the first verse of this song is directly reffering to Merab and Irakli meeting behind the kvevri in the vineyard!❤️ If not for the fact that the crucial scene is left without music - one might imagine this song to be a perfect background music. Could it be another example of following contrasts in the movie? Love scene between boy and girl might openly refer to a traditional song - but for our boys the song is only secretly suggested in end credits... 2. Source of the lyrics was tsutisopeli.com and archives from alazani.ge ]

i'm. i can't do proper metas until i actually have the time to do them. but i will eventually dig further into charlie and bonnie's relationship and mac and his mom's. its stewing.
