ships can be so fun to talk about publicly i just wish everyone could be about as calm about it as i am. not really as in "everyone is so ship obsessed nowadays they have to ship everyone" but more like its just fun to talk about ships you're actually into, or aren't but you see the appeal, or ones where you don't see any appeal and how you prefer to see them without others taking it personally

You know I wasn't going to post about this, but the more I think about it the more it drives me up the walls

So when Luffy and co release Crocodile from jail, it's specifically under the threat that if Crocodile tries anything funny, well, Iva-chan has a trick up their sleeve to put Crocodile back in-line.

So what the fuck was that actually about? What is Crocodile's secret weakness? I'm specifically looking at the way this is phrased in the manga, because the anime's added dialogue kinda messes with what's implied here. But what Iva specifically says is that Ivankov in particular holds the key to one of Crocodile's weaknesses, but they'll stay quiet about it as long as Crocodile behaves himself ("Vataashi wa koitsu no yowami wo hitotsu nigitteru", a very clunky but literal translation could be "One of his weaknesses is within my grasp". The way Viz translated the line is a bit different so I'm not bothering with getting a cap of the panel, you wouldn't be able to tell how these lines were phrased in Japanese based on Viz's translations anyways) (The dialogue Toei added was Crocodile furiously shouting at Iva-chan, telling them to not say anything and Iva-chan reminding Croc to watch his tone or else they'll reveal Croc's past to everyone. A lot of people don't remember this was in-fact added by Toei, hence I wanted to clarify/remind what happened in this scene originally)

And now. Obviously. When Oda went out of his way to introduce a brand new character whose entire personality is being queer and their power is giving people magic HRT. And then like five chapters later re-introduces Crocodile. And tells us that these two have Secret Beef. And never proceeds to fucking tell us what the hell that was about. Yes, the natural conclusion one would come to would be that Crocodile is stealth trans. That is basic, good storytelling. You (re)introduce two characters, tell us they have beef, one has a very specific ability; you're supposed to connect these dots in your mind. So that now, if Oda revealed to us tomorrow that Crocodile was canonically trans, it would not surprise anyone because it's already been set-up in the story, by this very scene. It's a logical conclusion.

But. I'm becoming more and more convinced that Iva-chan's blackmail might actually not be about Crocodile being trans.

Like the general fandom assumption for the past 15 years has been that Crocodile's stealth trans, but we actually don't know he's stealth. He could be openly trans, and between that being a borderline requirement for Crocodad to be real (since he would've been a Shichibukai for years before Luffy was even born) and the possibility that his earring could specifically be a gay earring, like. Yeah. Crocodile could be openly trans. If Crocodile's perfectly happy to let the whole world know he's gay, then him being trans shouldn't have to be a secret either. We the readers could just be unaware of it because it wasn't relevant information to us, and his transition would be old ass news in-universe and not worth bringing up.

And thus, if Crocodile isn't stealth, then Iva-chan can't blackmail him by threatening to out him, becaus he can't be outted.

Now for a while I did considder that Iva-chan could've been actually threatening to detransition Crocodile if he tried anything funny. Surely he would hate that, so much so that he might not have wanted to even hear Ivankov suggest it. But thinking about it. Unless Iva-chan can use Armanent Haki or get Crocodile moisturized, they shouldn't be able to hit Crocodile actually. Like Croc's Logia makes him impossible to hit unless he specifically allowed himself to be touched. So even if Iva-chan tried to surprise attack Crocodile with Estrogen, Croc should just turn to sand automatically, the attack should not land.

Meaning Iva-chan shouldn't be able to detransition Crocodile against his will, at least not without Haki and we don't know if they can use it, so that can't be Crocodile's weakness either.

And so we have to ask the question. What the fuck is that weakness then that Ivankov mentioned?

All we really know is that Crocodile doesn't want this weakness to be brought up, it's a secret. And for all we know Iva-chan might be the only person in the world who knows about it.

And I just. Like.

There is one weakness, kind of a universal one that many people could have, one that has been brought up time-and-time again post-timeskip, one that has become more and more relevant in the story, especially now at the begining of the Final Saga.

A secret weakness.

If pregnancy is what cracked Crocodile's egg and he transitioned immidiately/soon after giving birth, then it's entirely plausible Iva-chan could know Crocodile had a secret child. And surely he'd want nothing more than for his child to be safe, not end up in trouble because of him. And Ivankov most certainly could put that child in danger, especially now that Crocodile was officially no longer on the World Government's side, there'd be no protection for the baby. All Ivankov had to do was leak the information out, that Sir Crocodile had a child, and anybody who had beef with him could get their revenge by attempting to find the child.

Like I'm just saying. This could line up nicely, actually

Something I feel often goes unrecognized in discussion of Harry Osborn is the fact that he is the Only Child of a Single Parent.

In my experience/observation (both real and fictional) the only child/single parent bond is so inexorable it's hard to fully comprehend. Few other things will bind two people together in such a way.

Like many familial relationships, it's full of a thousand little hurts that will probably never get brought up again. Sometimes you let the relationship go by the wayside in pursuit of your own life goals because you take it for granted that family will always be around. But there's a unique flavor to it.

Deep down inside you there's an awareness that it's Just The Two Of You. For the child, it may have been just the two of you from your very earliest memories. Sure, you know other people. There are extended family and friends and maybe the parent has a romantic partner or two. But at the end of the day, in your home, in your hearts (something you carry with you no matter where you go) the two of you are all you have and all you feel you can really depend on.

A world in which the two of you aren't together is almost impossible to picture and you don't want to try, even in the moments you wish you could just get away from each other. Being an only child separated from a single parent for the first time ‐ even on normal and amicable terms like when you move out on your own - makes you realize, again and again, how many ways your parent has influenced you. The things you say that you heard from them first, the habits, the opinions. You love them, but sometimes it feels like they still... OWN you, even though you are your own person. Sometimes that frightens you, but the alternative is even more frightening.

Like all love, it'll make you behave selfishly and irrationally at times.

And it'll really make you DEFENSIVE.

If you're Harry Osborn and complain a bit about your dad being a dickhead while deep down wondering if he really even cares about you, that's one thing. But if anyone says a word against him in your presence you have to backtrack. You have to argue in his defense because he's all you have and you're all he has. Loss would unbearable.

Look, guys. It has been years since Harry and Norman Osborn have gotten along or been able to really enjoy each other's company, if they ever could. But if anything happened to the other they would kill everyone in this room and then themselves, do you understand what I'm saying?

Oda really loves drawing Ginny huh. I'm not complaining cuz I quite like seeing her in the chapters 😭. Especially her romance with Kuma!!! It's so cute!!! I really hope Kuma is able to overcome his trauma of seeing his parents persecuted because of their race, so he can move ahead and be happy with Ginny instead of feeling like a burden.

my personal take is if you're gonna make "ai art" at the very least distinguish it as it's own medium because otherwise you're gonna run into issues where people of the same medium tend to congregate together to share knowledge, technique, admire each other's craft from the perspective of shared experience, etc. and that's why digital painters who use like SAI and CSP & do that exclusively don't congregate as much with communities centered around traditional painting that works with tangible brushes, canvases, and paint (and yes, i'm aware some art software does its best to imitate the feel and flow of traditional painting and drawing) - the same goes for things like 3D modeling versus traditional sculpture and ceramics

regardless of anyone's opinion on it, it's not something that should be treated the same as digital drawing and other digital mediums because the process of its creation is its own thing even if the end result is superficially similar & this lack of distinction is something no small number of people are using as dishonest or even exploitative means to an end

The thing is – and I PROMMY I am fine with smut fic and characters having sex and suchlike, as or not as ways to explore aspects of the plot/their characters; the conception that a scene could perhaps be in fact a scene that does things scenes do "even" if it involves or is abt sex is something I concur with – but also the conception that sex is the best/only/most profound way to explore those and the following implication that characters (and by extension people lol) who don't have sex don't have the same emotional depth as those who do does, in fact, kind of suck

i hope it's evident with how much i post about frieren that its story and characters are so worth caring about. it truly is one of the shows of all time. i like how this episode is such a breather from everything that's happened. i've seen people criticize frieren for being too slow and boring and i think it's the stupidest critique you can give because that's the point. the point of frieren is not the action and fights; they're there if the story calls for it, but it was always about people's lives and the minutae of it all and how beautiful human connection is. it started out as a story about grief and finding yourself and realizing how much the people you've spent your life with—for however many years—have impacted you and changed you. if you come to frieren expecting epic fantasy shit that's simply not what it's offering front and center. you're looking for the wrong thing in frieren. i won't even call frieren "slow", it just spends a lot of time with its characters, even in their "blandest" moments, because it's the kind of story that it is. frieren is so clearly a slice of life story first and foremost and people just can't seem to fathom that possibly the best received anime of all time is a slice of life. get slice of life'd, idiot.
