Okay, thoughts. If Garling really is Shanks’ biological father… I can’t stop thinking WHY THE HELL would you bring your one-year-old to an event such as God Valley????? Did he bring him along to “start him early”? Maybe he wanted to get rid of him and used that as a cover? Or, maybe Shanks’ mom was a slave that escaped to the island and Things Happened?

If the treasure chest thing is true, can’t help but think about the reason Cora told Law to hide in a treasure chest: people gravitate towards them because Treasure, so the chances of Law making it out of that closed-off island alive was high because anyone (pirates, civilians, marines, CDs) would naturally want to take a treasure chest with them. So whoever put Shanks in a treasure chest wanted him out of the island alive… possibly.

If Oda doesn’t expand on the *waves hand in general direction* all that, I will i m p l o d e.

One Piece headcanon! Shanks and Uta

Everybody knows the theory about Figarland Garling, King of God Valley, Supreme Commander of the God's Knights, being the father of Shanks, right?

Well, I'm thinking about the God Valley incident and the theory about Shanks having a twin. What if in the Native Hunting Competition, the God's Knights offered one son when twins were born, and this was the reason that Shanks was in the chest that Gol D. Roger robbed during the incident? Does this mean Uta has a twin too?

So just a small detail I never realized the implications of before, is when Whitebeard and Shanks meet to discuss the matter of Blackbeard and Ace.

When Whitebeard judges Shanks choice of brew, he comments that its 1. from the west-Blue, and 2. not very good quality.

To this Shanks tells him its from his hometown. In other words, this brew is from Gods Valley, the place in West-Blue where Roger found Shanks in a chest.

There is a lot of extra meaning in that, in particularily as an offering to Whitebeard, the man who detested the Rocks Pirates that he used to be part of, the crew who died there when Roger and Garp murdered his former Captain.

Whitebeards opinion of the drink goes drastically up after hearing this, and what he says next is actually misleading.

Roger, Garp, Sengoku. At first reading, and the common consensus for nearly 20 years now, is that Whitebeard is talking about his and Rogers era, the age before the Golden Age of Piracy.

He is not.

He's actually talking about the age before that, the age of Rocks.

Shanks then talks about it as if he is talking about the previous age, the age of his captain, but there is a lot hidden subtext in this conversation.

Whitebeard keeps refering to Shanks as a brat, and brings up his past as Roger's apprentice, but the choice of alchohol for this meeting brings up the clearer meaning here, that Whitebeard was an established pirate when Shanks was still a crying baby.

With that subtext in mind, his talks of him climbing the ladder, is even higher praise, backhanded though it might be.

It also colors Shanks warnings of Blackbeard in a very different light.

His warnings now isnt just him warning Whitebeard of the danger teach poses, he is warning him of that danger, while making whitebeard recall his own captain, Rocks, the greatest star the pirate world would ever see... Who was taken out completely out of nowhere by an up and coming pirate called Gol D. Roger.

The underlying message is clear. You are the strongest right now, just like Rocks was... You can die just as easily and out of nowhere as he did.

When Shanks asks Whitebeard to stop Ace, what he is actually saying, is him telling Whitebeard not to do the same thing Rocks did, fly off the handle and rush into a situation before the time is ready for it.

Of course what Shanks doesnt know is that whitebeard HAS learned from his own captains mistakes... but is deliberately pretending othervise, because his political power is built in large part on the image of a father who will level anyone who harms his children, regardless of costs.

The one who is making Rocks mistake, is Ace, ironically enough, Roger's biological son. Not Whitebeard.

Whitebeard however, has a role to play, and so refuses Shanks demand, while Shanks laments that the current age will end then, just like the age of Rocks ended.

Its a lot of hidden subtext that shows Oda REALLY plans things out well.

I JUST KNOW that oda is going to snatch away Kuma's happiness in the next few chapters but i really felt like crying when i read these interactions between Kuma, Ginny and Ivankov 😭😭😭 they're such an amazing bunch and they're sooooo wholesome and cute!! KUMACHI IS SUCH AN ADORABLE LITTLE PUREHEARTED BOY IT BREAKS MY HEART...

So... God Valley is in the West Blue. Shanks was born in the West Blue, and was found in a treasure chest by Roger & co after the God Valley incident.

I know people say that Firgarland is Shanks' father and most seem to see it as canon, but it doesn't really make sense to me? Like, judging by the new information about God Valley, it doesn't make sense to me that this guy would bring his one-year old all the way here instead of, you know. Leaving his at home?

On the other end, hiding your baby in a treasure chest to possibly save his life because you're a native and suddenly you're being the subject of a human hunt... now that sounds more logical I think.

(another way it could go is that Shanks happens to be the son of Figarland and one of God Valley's native, which could be pretty interesting too)

"The native hunting competition" really broke me. What a timing to release this chapter too... Anyone who still thinks One Piece isn't political and isn't woke, should just drop it.

Garp and Roger are on very thin ice. idk what Xebec could be doing that's worse than this. idk what will justify Garp and Roger "protecting the tenryuubito and their slaves", even though so far we only have the marines POV of what happen. One thing is certain, the tenryuubito were protected. So, Garp and Roger start explaining yourselves.
