I'm not gonna put this on the other post cuz I don't really want it rebloggable but I do want to specify that like, yes I was being dramatic about Essek in terms of affect, but every part of that post is also quite literally a description of my experience with a creative field that is pretty centralized around a few locations and that has made it stringently difficult to enter and stay in the field. There are obviously monumentally different aspects around those circumstances, but like... look I left Los Angeles literally two weeks after the c2 finale with a very clear understanding that once I did, I was not going back, and that because of that, my career would never look like I'd wanted it to in any capacity, and in fact it was likely that it meant I would not work in the field I'd trained for ever again, and also knew it was the only choice that made sense if I wanted to, like, have a life. And I do! And it's great! And it still makes me very upset to think about for many reasons! So you can see why I have a lot of feelings about the whole situation.
#also to be clear i did not go into the field with some naivete about 'making it'#i started college in a time period where i distinctly recall having conversations with people like#'well it's gonna be hard for everyone to find a job so might as well go try to do what i want'#and lo and behold. it is in fact hard for everyone to find a job. most people i know do not work in the field their degree is in#and if they do they are not paid enough. frankly if they don't they're usually not paid enough either.#I'm sure most people reading this have the same experience but like. i would not even say i was naive about my job prospects at 17 lmfao#basically like. @ everyone like 'okay but this is literally exactly my experience' we are shaking hands#(and this def does apply to a lot of industries it really is fucking. rough. hell world.)#like! i do think a lot of people do not want to recognize that essek is. very relatable. to a decent amount of people.#way beyond the surface level. anyway I'll shut up now

was really excited for sonic 3 at first but the more information that comes out about it the more nervous i get. we barely even know anything yet and they somehow keep making all the wrong decisions. Come on man.
#first the eggman fatphobia now theyre allegedly picking one of my least favorite fan castings for shadow#i knew they wouldnt pick an actual voice actor but i was hoping at the very least that it would be an idris elba knuckles situation#where they pick somebody no one expected but did a decent job and made it clear that they care about doing the character justice#not just. one of the most popular fancasts. that i happen to really not like#ughhh whatever man#if this is real (which the general assumption seems to be that it is because the site that reported it is usually reliable)#i guess ill give him a chance and actually hear what voice he puts on for shadow before deciding if its bad or not#but im not happy about this decision

do i believe eddie brock is homosexual or even really into men. no. to be honest. however is he gay for that alien. one hundred fucking percent and it's canonical too
#at LEAST one time he has used he/him pronouns for the symbiote#and they are in love mike costa said so. that's his love. his darling.#so. man. hashtag homosexuality. gay stuff happening in there. can't attest to what's going on exactly but i know it's queer#eddie brock is into women and is also in a deep committed relationship with that slime from space#and when the space slime is around he really barely even looks at women. and the slime gets kinda peeved when he does#was gonna say 'looks at other women'. and you know what. yeah. when he looks at other women. except the symbiote is not a girl#my take on the symbiote is that it has No indentification with the human concept of gender. like i think it Gets it. it's picked it up#from living on earth all this time and seeing into people's heads. but it's like. not human.#same with curse words. it doesn't cuss usually. it knows the words and it could use them if it wants. but it doesn't really want#however. DISTINCT from that. i think the way that EDDIE BROCK sees/feels/interprets the symbiote is something more masculine#or at least more aligned with the male side of a gender binary.#partly because of self-identification with the thing that is literally a part of him. and partly cause he's gay for that thing#believer in. he/they/it symbiote. they/them for people who are speaking about it compassionately as if it's a being of its own.#it/its for people who do Not see it as its own person or whose perspective on it is heavily influenced by the fact that it's not human.#and he/him for eddie brock. for purposes not entirely clear to the rest of mankind but absolutely tied to something gay happening there#i have talked about the symbiote's pronouns so many times with so many people in different distinct conversations this week.#currently doing my job as the world's leading thinker on venom pronoun discourse (as in conversation and theorization. not argument)#venomposting#venom

Hello miss Marker Bills can I help you…?
#keese draws#oc art#oc#lob corp oc#say hi to marker they’ve been another recent obsession of mine#they come from many hundreds of years ago (they got time warped very sad)#they aren’t particularly broken up abt it tho it all reminds them of the on field duty they used to do in their youth#honestly they’re mostly just dissapointed that the common language is one they’re already well versed in#the corp they worked for had a semi singularity that basically allowed them to catalogue every word that has been or will be#their main singularity involved transferring data to people through music#to be clear data is an unfitting term I just don’t know how else to word it#I guess you could say it transfers a persons experiences? or their state of existence?#like you could use it to transfer one’s knowledge to another but you could also use it to transfer someone’s muscle memory or specific#physical experiences as in like emulating the taste of something they ate or the experience of being drunk#within the corporation that owned this technology there were 5 main branches of experience gatherers who would be used as sources for music#they followed a latter like structure and from bottom to top they were the nose the skin the toungue the eye and the ear#marker spent most of their career there working as an eye but about a decade ago graduated to be an ear#well a decade from their timeframe ofc#this basically made their job to produce and listen to the music of the other branches to make a more central database#back as an eye their job mostly was about reading and learning shit and they are also the ones who usually handle the word semi singularity#so marker is very well versed in an absolute metric ton of languages#and they also just. know a Lot.#they were also pretty stupid rich before yknow getting displaced in time#again they don’t mind especially since the biggest benefit of their wealth from their perspective doesn’t apply now#aka the music the corp created was very sensitive to other sounds so they removed sound from their district#so it’s similar to t corp (I think it was them) where sound was a luxury that only the rich could afford#to most from their time period marker would come off as comically rich due to them being fully willing to speak out loud during casual talk#they joined lob corp simply because they wanted to work in a field vastly different from their old one#since they were rich they got to skip right past the tiers that more involved actually getting your hands dirty and after working as an ear#they found themself increasingly more and more intrigued in actually getting to experience these sorts of things first hand

Ah, I am desperately, achingly homesick to the point of having difficulty breathing again
and it's two days before my period is due, approximately the time at which Effects usually start hitting me
which aligns more or less perfectly with the day my period started last month also being the day I burst into tears at work, in front of my coworkers, over how homesick I was

I'm used to it. it's what you've ALWAYS done#or even just hit me with a flash of inexplicable sadness that clears up in a couple of hours!#do NOT make me deal with the aching yearning weight in my chest bursting-into-tears-if-alone-with-my-thoughts-for-ten-seconds EVERY MONTH#UNTIL I FINISH MY JOB. Update on the bubblegum infractor... or INFRACTORS. Turns out there's a group (likely a sindicate) of them doing this kind of shit around the district using a strange chewable mix where it's safe to mix it on any liquids but once dry, it becomes a somekind of poison. Thanks the people above for these layered gloves and gasmask, but wont change the fact that there's someone out there wanting to get rid of us.

Though I do love the details we've been given about Joe and Jack in the books, I do have to point out some differences.
To me, Jack and Joe are two sides of the same coin. Despite having a 2-year difference in age, they're almost as similar as identical twins can get to be. Appearance-wise, Joe does look a little older than Reacher, but they look so similar, in general, that they often get mistaken by one another. Their voices are also very similar; Reacher is just more deadpan about his tone, and Joe makes sure to show much more emotion with his own.
Which leads me to the point of physical prowess and intelligence. They're pretty much the same, with Reacher being much more versed in physical prowess and techniques than Joe, who likes to keep things civil, using his mind instead. This doesn't mean Joe cannot be very violent, or that Reacher is not incredibly smart. They're almost equals, but they prioritize and lean towards different things.
This is why I love the series, because it doesn't shy away from their flaws/handicaps. The dynamic between these two siblings works best when they are juxtapositions of each other, just as awesome but with different flavors. That's what I try to portray with them.
#;; REACHER ;; headcanons.#;; JOE ;; headcanons.#I've always said it but I don't like the overly perfect characters which is why i usually don't like op characters#series reacher is op but well-balanced somehow which is something that people usually fail at doing#that's why I really love him -- he's not perfect and the series doesn't shy away from showing those flaws#or calling him out for it -- he's not always right and he is not always wrong#really recommend the series cause they did such a great job balancing reacher's opness with important flaws/handicaps#it's much more clear in the show that in the books I feel

What a good episode. Maaaaaan
#I can't even start I'd be here forever#It did take me in fact like one hour total to watch it lmoa. It sooooo good!!! The animation is very good#(albeit it's awfully low on brightness at times. But such seems to be the sin of lot of recent media unfortunately)#but I'm not even going to dwell on that. The plot / storytelling is so good. Sooooo god. I adore this arc.#Love the symbolism. I've been saying this for almost two years now (is it really been that long ever since these episodes came out... ) but#I want to write an analysis on the op & ed so baddd. The emphasis on the twilight this episode!!#Like the sun was setting on the detective agency. I love love love the hd. They're so cool in this episode and they're so cool in general.#I ADORE Jouno. I don't feel particularly strongly for sue/giku yet their scenes are so cute and funny. I see why people ship them.#Even Tetchou I don't usually care much about is so !!!!! I love all the hd so much fr!!!!!!!!!!#I love love love Jouno. Like much like it is for Akutagawa I'm very weak for characters that aren't really good people.#But they're still trying to be a better person than they were. And oftentimes they end up doing a terrible job!!#But the fact alone that they're //trying// has me ougheueueueu. Here in this episode you can see Jouno–#sliping very easily in his cruel / sadistic habits. But he is trying to be a person that cares for others! He made good actions in the past#and he will again in the future even though right now he's acting like this! Because improvement isn't linear! I love him tonsss#And DON'T get me started on the ada. Yosano's “Welcome” scene. I love women. I love women. Yosano please one chance#KENJI'S SCENE God I needed this. How could I forget the way this literllyyyyy rewinded my brain when I read the manga for the first time.#That scene is so deep and poignant and so so meaningful I. Oughhh#I am going to run out of tags am I not#Kyouka saving Atsushi!!!!!!! That scene is one of my all time favourites. It makes me soft to remember when the s4 trailer dropped–#I was so overjoyed for that bit of them holding hands :') Rightfully so!!! It's so cute.#Her coming back to save Atsushi. The “don't worry– I didn't kill them” direct towards Atsushi–#that is so so Akutagawa and it sends me insane hhhhhhgggggggggg#Kunikida!!!!! His “I'm not leaving anyone behind”!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not precisely Kunikida's first fan but aaaaaahhh he makes me feel–#so much for him in this scene!!!!! Mmmhhh one last note would be. It bugs me a little how the ada is defined terrorist by the military–#forces starting this episode? I don't have space to elaborate properly but. An action to be considered terrorism must have clear political#orientation and goal. Violence alone isn't enought to be defined terrorism. It's an incorrect use of the word#Up to the next episode!!! Can't wait to see more Atsushi 🥰🥰#random rambles#It's late now and probably most are asleep rn... Then I'll be queing my posts for tomorrow probably

This is super random, but I've recently been watching more German movies (I really enjoyed the performances of some Downfall actors and wanted to see some of their other works), and like what the hell is it with 2000s German movies that there's way too often one entirely random scene with someone having their bare ass out😭😂
Of course it doesn't happen in every movie but still often enough that it's somehow noticeable? I'm not sure if it's more of a time or a country dependent thing, but at least in my perception I just don't feel like this occurs as often in more recent movies and series especially in those from the US (like, I feel I'd have noticed if it did because I'd probably be lowkey annoyed by it😂)
#or maybe the things I tend to be interested are just more targeted at all ages that's why I rarely don't come across it usually idk#I mean in some instances it it's actually sorta plot relevant (like in the final scenes of Napola for example) but in others it's so random#and I'm like ... couldn't you just have lifted the camera angle a couple degrees so we only see that guy from the waist up?#I just feel a little bad for the actors tbh😅 esp in those unnecessary scenes. I mean I guess they knew what they signed up for but still#this is all meant to be /lh to be clear - for the most part I find this literally just hilarious because it's such a random thing#not sure if my asexuality has to do with my perception either. I find it silly and roll my eyes at it but I'm not genuinely bothered by it#but aside from that watching movies because of specific actors can actually be kinda funny#because it makes you take a look at media you'd never have considered otherwise (which can be hit or miss)#like for example now I've watched some of the most random movies ever just because Justus von Dohnányi is in them#(<- he has my recommendation btw. not all of them were even good but I think he's genuinely fun to watch and also kinda adorable tbh)#it's also funny when you watch sth because of one actor and then another one you remember from elsewhere just randomly appears there too#like once I was like 'hey isn't that the guy who played Hewel in Downfall? oh and the one who played that one drunk guy is here too lol'#also idk why but I feel like Thomas Kretschmann is somehow everywhere lmao#I mean it's probably bc he's in a lot of international productions too but still. tbf he doesn't look bad at all#those two and André Hennicke are generally the ones I'm most interested in. maybe Rolf Kanies too#but tbh I feel like he just hasn't been in as many things? idk why though he was so good in Downfall#anyway I think I'm yapping way too much. I just like watching things and talking about them#and seeing actors having fun with their job while also being good at it is just really cool tbh#selnia talks

sorry I'm on one now. Narnia is one of my Big Rant triggers.
but like. I would be lying if I said I didn't love Narnia
(everything except the Horse and His Boy, which a) even as a tiny kid made me uncomfortable with how fucking racist it is (literally there is ONE. ONE. character of colour who isn't evil, selfish, greedy and violent. even when you're 5 and white and don't really understand racism it's like. sorry there are just no nice people in this whole country? and every Narnian is lovely?) and b) is just fucking DULL partly bc of the 2 dimensional racist caricatures populating the world)
but I can't pretend for a second that it isn't specifically built around a Christian theology that's explicitly racist, hierarchical, supremacist, colonialist and The Bits I Like Least Of Anglicanism
and my FAVOURITE books in the series (except the Silver Chair which tbh is WAY less theological and way more mythology-nerd) are the first and last, which are by far the most explicitly Christian. even more so than TLTWATW.
and I can just about stand by the Magician's Nephew bc it's mostly just a mix of Christian creation myth and CS Lewis's sci fi interests in the esoteric and multiverses and it honestly feels fine. but my all time favourite most iconic Narnia book is The Last Battle and I just. cannot. justify it for a second from a political or philosophical standpoint.
it's got it all bc it's the book where Lewis is like ok hold up let me lay out explicitly what my theology is. and what he thinks it's important to say is:
Almost all Muslims are bad and evil
They worship Satan by doing Bad Evil Deeds to please him
There are a couple of Good Muslims who do good deeds. they need to be brought to the light, understand that the voice calling them to do good deeds is the Christian god, and they too can achieve the kingdom of heaven
Some people will use Christianity as a mask for exploitation and mistreatment. They are bad and their faith is false (ok fine)
...and they're doing that because they're CONSPIRING WITH THE EVIL MUSLIMS TO OPPRESS GOOD CHRISTIANS
...and THAT'S THE ONLY REASON ANYONE WOULD TELL YOU THAT GOD AND ALLAH ARE DIFFERENT NAMES FOR THE SAME GOD. because they're either conning you or because they've been misled and can't really think for themselves.
DID I MENTION. THAT MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND TRYING TO BRING DOWN CHRISTIANS.
and other than the GOD AREN'T MUSLIMS JUST THE WORST of it all, he also goes back over to more fully explain several points he's made throughout the series, such as:
white Christian public school kids are the god ordained leaders of the world and attempts to think otherwise are heretical
god places people where they need to be to serve his purpose
free will is largely an illusion - your only choice is faith or chaos, and as a godly person your actions are preordained
the problem is though. he's kind of a really good character writer? and in The Last Battle he pulls out most of his best classics (hi Reepicheep! hi Frank! hi Jill!) and gives us a whole wealth of really fun new characters (Tirian and Jewel, Emeth, Puzzle, Shift, Griffle and Ginger are all just SO FUN) and it's such a solid adventure. for me it's hands down the most FUN Narnia to read and an effective and affecting end to the series.
but like. god its unjustifiably fucked philosophy is baked into every single character and event. it's so hard to ignore. it's my favourite book in the series. it's the book that makes me angriest. it's everything right with Narnia and everything wrong with Narnia. I like it cause it asks me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy and I hate it cause it requires me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy.
in conclusion, Narnia is a land of contrasts. also occasionally brownface.
#red said#i love these books. i love the last battle especially.#fuck me they're awful philosophically though#they were probably the first chapter books i read when i was 3 or 4. they are such a big part of my life.#and I've always loved them and i still do. I'm so fond of them.#and part of that is inextricable from the Christianity of them. i think there's something really fun and interesting in the fusion of#christian myth and celtic paganism and classical myth and arthuriana and new age mysticism and sci fi multiverse stuff#like it's not. new to blend those things. but lewis is such a nerd about all of them and he blends them up in a really flavourful way#and also i think like as a kid. the utter claroty with which These Are Metaphors About Theology And Philosophy#really worked for me even though I disagreed with most of it. because it kind of wants to engage with you directly as a child#it is. to me. pretty honest about its intentions. and it digs into some moderately complex ideas for a young audience.#like they're parables not morality plays. the Goddier ones are inviting you to think and engage in a conversation about the ideas#which tbh. not a lot of kid's books did at the time and age i was reading them?#they wanted me to be thinking about the whys and hows of morality. like obviously Lewis SUPER has an opinion on the Right Answers#(i would usually. say we're diametrically opposed on most conclusions but then i was rooting for Jadis' army in LWW)#but idk Lewis's theology is interesting. he's very much pro faith and determinism but he ALSO thinks you should question stuff i think#like. it's often kind of self-contradictory but the books are pretty pro asking questions pushing back straying from the path#as long as you come back#and the last battle particularly is really clear that you're not doing a good job of engaging with faith if you don't think about it#like other than MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND BAD the main message of the last battle is.#if you don't think critically about faith then someone else will think for you and fuck you over#tirian is our hero bc he has a personal and often uncertain relationship with faith that means he refuses to get swept up in the crowd#puzzle is painted as someone who is too scared of conflict to voice his concerns#he's prepared to believe he's too stupid to have his own questions or relationship with faith and so he becomes a tool of the powerful#because he is told to trust the teachings of the church not his own heart#now. do i think this is philosophically good? generally yes but it also props up the I'M A BOLD TRUTHTELLER AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT#reactionary tendency. and it's written by a guy whose Unpopular Truthtelling is partly 'Allah is Satan' so. grains of salt.#buuuuut. it's probably why it resonates a lot with people like me or my mum who as kids often felt constrained or patronised#by the way adults approach obedience and blind faith#like. Lewis is advocating for FAITH. he DOESN'T think that faith should be uncritical or without discomfort
