I've seen people upset about the way some things/characters are handled/explained in DATV and I just want to remind everyone that characters are unreliable sometimes, they lie sometimes, and other times information is withheld from them intentionally. "Why does Morrigan not talk about Kieran?" Ignoring the fact that not every worldstate even HAS a Kieran, Morrigan does not know you like that and canonically the Orlesian court didn't even know she had a son despite living there for some time. Not to mention I doubt Morrigan wants to mention her kid who previously had a "god's soul" lest Rook and co. try involving him in their shenanigans somehow.
"Why doesn't Solas gush more over a romanced Lavellan when Rook brings her up? He hardly seems to care." He does not trust Rook whatsoever and knows that Rook is likely looking for leverage on him in exactly the same way he's looking for leverage on them. The fact that he can't bring himself to lie explicitly and say that she doesn't matter to him at all is, in my eyes, a testament to how much he DOES love a romanced Lavellan. (It could also be him feigning vulnerability to Rook for brownie points if you're a "Solas doesn't care about Lavellan" truther which is not my reading but to each their own)
"Why do the companions interpret Solas's regrets/Mythal/the lore the way they do? They're wrong!" They're people bringing their own baggage to what they've witnessed and have come to their own conclusions about who Solas is and what he's done. Those regrets, and Solas overall, are up for interpretation not just by us as the players but by the in-universe characters as well. And yes, this is something Dragon Age has done in every single game thus far.
I understand the fanservice potential in changing the writing around any of the above (+ all the other "writing bad" discourse I've seen) but if we take a second to immerse ourselves in Rook's reality here as opposed to ours, the player who has an intimate knowledge of the prior games and endless theories about the lore, a lot of things start making more sense. Sometimes characters are wrong! Sometimes they are guessing. Sometimes they're just straight up lying to you or concealing the truth. COULD it be poor writing? Yeah I mean sure. But I actually prefer not being spoon fed canon-accurate information by every character as though everyone's on the same page.
It's a little frustrating to see this take spread so widely while folks complain in the same breath that the writing was bad because we're told too much or all the NPCs are too much in agreement on things. Stories don't actually have to explain everything all the time! Theorizing to fill the gaps is not inherently a failure of the writing, sometimes it is, in fact, a feature. Especially in Dragon Age, where this has BEEN a theme across the series as a whole!
#“The game tells us too much without leaving anything up for interpretation!”#idk i feel like if that were true you wouldn't be mischaracterizing them so bad sorry#da4#datv#dragonage#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#da veilguard#veilguard spoilers#da: the veilguard#dragon age the veilgaurd spoilers#fandom critical

december 14 2024 @ senators, 3-2 OT loss
creature feature time. yes i've already written incubus sidney crosby once and i likely will again; what can i say, it compels me.
credit for this prompt goes to @beggingwolf who ended it with 'and uh something something they sleep together'. can do!
Zhenya can tell when Sid hasn’t fed in a while.
The team keeps a close eye on his intake, of course. He gets his blood tested weekly, and there’s a whole sub-department of the medical team dedicated to his care and keeping.
League requirements for something like Sid are much more lax than they are for other creatures; wolves take suppressants and wear thin gloves made of cut-resistant fabric under their normal hockey gloves, vampires wear specially-molded mouthguards that have to be cracked off by the dentists and get shots that dull their sense of smell on game days. Some creatures aren’t allowed in the NHL at all—the fae and telekinetics are stuck in the lower levels because magical dampeners aren’t effective enough.
Incubi, though? Unless they’re underfed, they’re in complete control of their abilities, and it’s so obvious when a sex demon is putting someone under thrall that they’d be tossed immediately, before any impact to the game could occur.
So Sid is subjected to regular testing, and he has a group of people more involved in his sex life than he’d probably prefer, but it’s a small price to pay relative to others, and Zhenya’s never heard him complain.
Sometimes, though, he lies.
Sid’s stubborn, always has been. There are certain cities he doesn’t like picking up in even if he’s scheduled to feed, and he’s slippery, good at avoiding questions without the medical staff picking up on it until it’s too late.
Normally, it doesn’t matter. A day or two here and there doesn’t really impact anything, and Sid knows his body—he’d never delay to the point where it would impact his performance, or the team.
And if it does get close to a critical point, well, that’s where Zhenya steps in. It’s why he’s gotten so good at picking up on the early signs.
One of the places Sid never feeds is Montreal. He’s far too visible there, too well-known; they can barely duck in for a sandwich without him getting mobbed. They have to stick to the VIP if they go out, and even then he spends time brushing off hopeful fans looking to get up close and personal. All it would take is one person running to one of the innumerable hockey reporters that are constantly buzzing around the Penguins when they’re here, and it’s a league-wide story for months, if not the whole rest of the season.
Zhenya’s half-wondering if Sid will call him to his hotel room after the game. They’re not leaving until tomorrow after practice, and a bunch of the guys are chattering about going out as they all get changed.
Sid doesn’t say anything, though, and despite the blowout win his face is drawn. He lurks in the shadows at the bar they decide on and slips out early.
Zhenya shrugs it off and distracts himself with a couple of giggly French-Canadian girls with accents so thick he can barely understand them. He won’t go home with either of them, of course, but it’s fun to make friends.
—
Sid puts on a good face at practice the next day, but he’s quiet and crabby on the train, sitting across the aisle from Zhenya’s card game but refusing to be dealt in even when Karl tries to cajole him into playing. He chats for a while with Neets, but spends most of the ride staring out the window with his brow furrowed and one hand clenching and unclenching in his lap.
Zhenya sits next to him at dinner, but Sid doesn’t say a word, not even when Zhenya asks leading questions to try and get around to the topic.
Sid doesn’t text that night either, not that Zhenya was expecting it the night before a game.
The Senators game is fine. They manage a point, which is better than they usually do against this team, and they have two days before they play again. The team normally wouldn’t go out two nights so close together, but Karl’s chattering excitedly about a bar he used to go to all the time when he was playing here, and when Sid unexpectedly pipes up to say he’s in, the rest of the team follows suit.
Zhenya grabs Sid on the way out. “You sure?” he says quietly, leaning down so Sid can hear him. “You’re tired, I think, need to feed. We can go to hotel if you want.” Ottawa is another city Sid won’t pick up in, a relatively recent development that Zhenya hasn’t bothered getting to the bottom of outside of how it impacts Sid’s routines.
Sid stares up at him. His eyes are huge and black in his pale face, and his skin is drawn tight over his cheekbones. For a second Zhenya can feel thrall creeping up, and he sways forward, but then Sid shakes his head and wrenches his arm free. “I’m fine,” he says shortly.
Zhenya stares after him, baffled. Even when Sid had his eye on some other target, he’s never brushed Zhenya off so rudely before.
Sid’s demon likes Zhenya, is the thing. Zhenya’s heard it from its own mouth, lying prone on a mattress in some hotel and listening to the incubus inside Sid’s body murmur about how good he is, the best, as it works Zhenya over into orgasm after orgasm. And yeah, part of that is flattery designed to keep its food source compliant, but Sid had confirmed it too, when Zhenya screwed up enough courage to ask.
"Yeah,” Sid had said, flushing pink. “I mean…it’s not picky, you know, but there are…favorites, I guess. You’re one of them. You taste—” and then Sid had cut himself off.
Sometimes, Zhenya wonders how much of their encounters are Sid and not his incubus side. He likes to pretend that it’s strictly transactional, a series of mindblowing orgasms in exchange for keeping his demon fed, but Zhenya knows what Sid looks like when it’s just him in there. The lines have felt blurred for a while now, and Zhenya isn’t sure how much more clear he can make it that if Sid wanted it, Zhenya would wife him up so fast.
Husband him up. Whatever.
Maybe Sid figured that out and he’s trying to give Zhenya a hint. That would be just like Sid, to get himself all worked up over something and decide he has to shut it down before even giving it a chance.
Well, Sid isn’t the only stubborn asshole on this team. Zhenya’s prepared to wait him out. And since Sid’s incubus likes him so much, he’s got the edge over whatever objections Sid might try to trot out. He just needs to force the conversation and let their natural chemistry take it from there.
All Zhenya’s confidence evaporates, though, when he loses track of Sid for a solid hour at the bar Karl directed them to, only to spot him leaning up against a hightop making eyes at someone else.
To Zhenya’s surprise, his eyes sting like they’re about to fill with tears, and he has to swallow hard around the sudden lump in his throat. It feels like he’s gotten the wind knocked out of him.
Sid’s making himself perfectly clear. Whatever he and Zhenya used to do, he doesn’t want it, and by hitting on some guy in the middle of a bar like this, he couldn’t be sending out a stronger signal—we’re done.
Just as Zhenya’s about to turn away, make his way back to their table to grab his jacket and get back to the hotel to lick his wounds in private, Sid’s head suddenly turns, and they make eye contact across the bar.
Zhenya tucks tail and flees. He doesn’t need Sid’s pity right now.
He’s barely gotten changed from his going-out clothes into his pajamas, though, when someone pounds on his hotel room door. There’s really only one person it could be, and Zhenya seriously considers ignoring it and pretending he’s already asleep, but then Sid knocks again, harder this time, and Zhenya sighs, heading to the door to let him in.
“You left,” Sid says as he pushes past Zhenya into the room, except it’s not just Sid, there’s a crooning undertone to his voice that Zhenya knows mean the incubus is here too. “Why did you sneak out? You—” and Sid sniffs the air, sometimes this demon shit is beyond weird even after all these years, “you’re upset about something.” He steps closer to Zhenya, widening his eyes. The irises are pitch-black, not a hint of Sid’s normal hazel, and Zhenya closes his eyes against the gentle thrum of thrall brushing over his skin. “What happened?”
“Sid,” Zhenya sighs, taking a step back to try and keep his head clear. “You’re say you not want with me, you’re with some guy tonight. I’m a little upset, okay, maybe I’m jealous, because I think…” He shrugs. “It’s stupid, maybe, but I’m not want to see you do with someone else, so I come back to be alone, give you space.”
“Baby,” Sid murmurs, closing the distance again and curling a hand around the back of Zhenya’s neck. “I never want space from you. You know you’re my favorite.”
Zhenya doesn’t need thrall to give in, not when Sid’s standing so close and looking at him that way. He’s a weak man, and impulsive, and so he’s already moving for the bed before Sid has to push any harder.
Sid undresses them both slowly, letting his fingers reverently linger over Zhenya’s skin, the way a man besotted with his lover might. Zhenya closes his eyes and lets him, drifting on the drugging feel of thrall.
Sid lays him out on the mattress and stretches out next to him before leaning down, kissing him deep and lush, like the kiss is the goal and there’s nothing else he’d rather be doing. His hands over Zhenya’s body are rhythmic and intoxicating, and they feel good, but he keeps intentionally avoiding Zhenya’s dick, which is getting hard painfully fast.
“Please,” Zhenya finally groans when he manages to break away from Sid’s mouth for a minute and gasp to catch his breath. “Sid, need it.”
“I need you,” Sid—the incubus—Zhenya can’t tell at this point, purrs at him, but instead of teasing further he slides down Zhenya’s body and takes Zhenya into his mouth.
Sid gets a lot of shit on the ice for what his mouth looks like, and Zhenya can attest that he deserves every last word of it. He’s preternaturally skilled with his tongue and doesn’t seem to have a gag reflex at all, and when Zhenya looks down at Sid’s head bobbing in his lap it takes all his effort to keep from coming right there.
He wants this to last.
Sid hums around him, taking him deeper and reaching down to press at Zhenya’s hole, just lightly, rubbing circles over it with a finger that’s somehow slick with lube even though there’s no way he had time to get Zhenya’s bottle off the nightstand. Zhenya tries to buck back and force Sid’s finger in, but Sid’s other arm is a steel bar over his hip bones, pressing him into the mattress. All Zhenya can do is lie there and take what Sid decides to give him.
Sid’s said before that when he’s with someone like this, he can kind of feel what they’re feeling. Nothing major, but enough to tell him what’s working and what isn’t—the better an orgasm is, the better he feeds. Zhenya wonders what Sid’s getting off of him now, the deep swell of arousal and love and longing that’s making his chest tight.
It means that Sid knows the exact right moment to slide his finger in and press mercilessly at Zhenya’s prostate, rubbing and rubbing as he sucks hard until Zhenya’s coming down his throat with a shout.
Sid nurses at Zhenya’s cock for a while until the shocky oversensitivity turns painful, then pulls back, licking his lips. His eyes are half-slits, and he looks contented, satisfied, like a well-fed cat.
Now that the high of orgasm is fading, though, Zhenya feels empty.
“Hey—” Sid says, and that’s Sid, just him, no trace of the demon. He props himself up on his elbow and looks down at Zhenya, eyes big and worried and wholly his again. “What’s wrong? I can still…I mean, not much, but I can still feel you a little.”
Zhenya flinches. “Sorry,” he mutters, wishing they weren’t lying on top of the covers so he could pull a blanket over himself. He feels exposed. “It’s not—I feel dumb, like, it’s big overreact for nothing. I know it’s…what’s word, like, a deal for you, it’s not serious. I let myself think something more, maybe. It’s okay, though, I get over. We don’t need to stop when you’re hungry.”
“G,” Sid says, voice small, “it is something more. I wasn’t…” He sighs, scrubbing his free hand over his face. “It’s true, that you’re its favorite. My favorite. It’s not just a deal to me, and you’re not overreacting. I noticed it a few weeks ago, the last time I fed from you, but I thought it was bleed—that can happen sometimes, the link starts to let stuff through the other way. I thought you were getting how I felt, and I felt terrible influencing you like that. So I pulled back.”
“Sid,” Zhenya says chidingly, but he has to blink away the dizzying wash of hope. “You’re not say anything? Have to talk, like, can’t just make decisions without say to me.”
“I know,” Sid mutters, flopping down onto his stomach and hiding his face in a pillow. “I felt so stupid, though. I mean, you’re doing me this huge favor and here I am making you feel stuff…it’s more than stupid, it’s unfair, it’s…” He trails off, but Zhenya can plug in a number of words into the silence that he thinks Sid probably would use if they weren’t so unpleasant to say aloud. “I wanted to give you a break to get your head back.”
Zhenya manfully refrains from making a dirty joke. “It’s both of us, I think,” he says instead, rolling onto his side so he can skate his palm over Sid’s back. “You and me, we’re both feel, that’s equal, yes? It’s good.”
“Yeah,” Sid’s muffled, but Zhenya can hear hope rising in his voice too.

100% serious, swear to god, asking this in good faith —
not that i disagree with how fucking stupid it was for tommy to have been abby’s tommy ~all along~, because i was a staunch opponent of that theory until i was watching it unfold in real time on my goddamn television, but: like, obviously, we don’t need the whole himbo conversation, but i personally feel like buck wouldn’t go full-on speechifying and talking about how ~brave~ tommy is unless he got that speech from josh earlier.
(side note: did buck need to hear what josh was saying? absolutely. does it make any sense to say that glee is what changed the fucking world??? no.)
and i … idk. i feel like he doesn’t get to that point where he’s at dispatch and spiraling at maddie unless he just found out that tommy used to be engaged to a woman and ended up breaking it off. (tbh there’s no reason it needed to be abby! considering who tommy used to be, i don’t at all find it hard to believe that he would’ve tried to “make it work” with a woman before he finally came to terms with who he actually was, instead of who he wanted himself to be.)
i swear i started this with a question. it feels like it’s disappeared. i think what i was going for was, more or less: if we’d gotten different tommy lore, like you said — an ex-boyfriend or an ex-fiancé — how do you think the episode would’ve played out? like, does that still wind up with them breaking up?
(feel free to ignore, if you want to, i just — god, there really are so many problems with that episode, aren’t there?)
Omg i don't understand why they hyped that Glee speech fr?? I lived through that era as a queer teen and the show didn't change the world for queer folks like they think it did imho - not to stir up shit about stereotypes but it was more geared towards musical lovers as well as a generation of people who were like 10-20 years younger than Tommy. It also felt more poignant for Josh to say (for himself) than it was relevant to Buck's issues.
We should've gotten Buck talking to Hen (and Karen) because they're also queer and they know both Buck and Tommy and it's the conversation we were hoping for/that would've made sense.
I understand the need for a catalyst in how they wrote the conflict and the breakup, but I think Buck would've freaked out about a broken off engagement between Tommy and a man just as much as with a woman, as well as the Kinsey stuff (not that I really believe his cluelessness btw given his tendency for research binges and excitement for learning and knowledge i think he would've been trying to find out as much as he could which could have been an interesting point of tension between them if Tommy didn't really know as much or care to) and the fact he hadn't explored his own identity instead just enjoying his relationship with Tommy.
We should have gotten Tommy talking about a serious male ex because he's gay and deserves to have his identity acknowledged through past gay relationships, instead of the fucking terribly campy throwaway line of him complimenting Abby's hair, like wtf was that?? Also: no fucking way they didn't talk about past relationships before that point, no way oversharer Buck didn't tell Tommy about his first love.
The show committed to the breakup and I'm okay with that because 1) Tommy's reasoning gives us more insight into his character that is feeding the fic and meta writers, and 2) it gives Buck the opportunity to date other guys (and women) for a time and compare his experiences to his emotional connection with Tommy ie. Love, and then it allows for them to get back together stronger down the line (my preference is they become friends first and feelings inevitably come to a head).
I can handle temporary pain but i cannot abide terrible writing. Abby's Tommy is actually Thomas Flores and was some guy she met at a grocery store or bar and owns his own business and has brown eyes and short straight hair and drives a tesla.

The way my dash was such a lovely positive place a few days after the new season came out and i was having so much fun hanging out here and now it's full of anti geraskier posts... Like... You don't have to suddenly hate on a ship you previously loved just because there's a new one... You can multiship... You can prefer one to the other and acknowledge they work for different reasons... Just... Why the sudden hostility in every second post i see
#i absolutely love radskier so far and i am so happy we have it#and it's very different from geraskier and i feel like comparing canon ships to non-canon ones is almost an apples and oranges situation#i do understand why people prefer it like it makes sense#but it's kinda weird to see people who previously loved geraskier throwing it in the trash and also lowkey making fun of people#who still enjoy it#can't we all just enjoy all the lovely jaskier ships#bambi says some bullshit#idk it just kinda makes me sad like the tone changed so abruptly

been going through the sumeru archon quest finally (met alhaitham)(my camera roll is just a hundred screenshots of his face)(I'm perfectly normal about him wym) and i think i get why people say comparing him to ratio isn't exactly correct but talking to him does feel like talking to ratio in a surprisingly uncanny way I can't even lie about that
#most of what i know about haitham atp is what i already knew before playing let's start with that#but from what i gathered the main difference with ratio is that ratio is so ambitious his goals cover innumerable galaxies#while haitham really onlt wants to be left alone to chill in peace#given that at least for ratio that's p much the core of his character I'd say it's normal to think they aren't all that similar#but the things they say......the way they interact with people.......the tone they use when talking even...........#if you ignore their life goals i feel like#at least for how much i know haitham now that is#the main difference between them is that maybe ratio is more caring than haitham#but maybe haitham is nicer than ratio#? does that make sense#haithams way of helping is nicer#but he doesn't care to help as much as ratio does#at the same time ratio is harsher with his words and actions than haitham is#but every single one of his actions is meant to care#haitham will sit and look at you and wait for you to find your own answers#which is Extremely ratio of him they both give super strong professor vibes#at more than one point he was like why are you asking when you know the answer#this is something ratio has said way more than once too#but maybe I feel like ratio asks to teach you how to think#and haitham asks because he'd prefer it if you didn't bother him#at the same time tho haitham will more easily hold your metaphorical hand when reaching a conclusion#while ratio will actively antagonize you just to make sure you're truly sure of what you're saying#it's the feeling they've been giving me#how do i say this#it's less their words and attitudes that are different since they match nearly perfectly#and more the intentions behind their words and attitudes#?#then again#I'm still investigating the hospital so this is just my initial understanding of haitham#maybe i got him completely wrong

I loved the bright sessions, reading your thoughts has been so interesting! There's two sequel shows to it (and a crossover with ars paradoxica)
Haha it's very nice that my thoughts are reaching the right audience! I love being wrong about things, being surprised, but it's also cool getting things right time to time.
What're the sequels to it? I'd love to have more stuff in the same universe :)
#the bright sessions#rosie answers#Podcasts#I keep forgetting that I have this to listen to and every time I get so excited#I've... Hmm I can't say I've enjoyed every episode#Bc some are difficult to listen to#But in a compelling way that I understand#If that makes sense#I do tend to overthink things#But also I tend to assume that every podcast relies heavily on tropes by default#So I jump three steps ahead in that tropey line of thinking and say X is where this will culminate#Why didn't I write all this in the post?#The tags are where I live lol#I prefer this place for like noncomplete sentences#And random thoughts#I'm glad some people read them haha

Before you send hate to a tumblr dot com blog featuring a fictional pairing, take a step back and think about the fact that none of these characters are real. If you're getting so triggered over something that doesn't even exist, it's time to reevaluate your mental state. Go out. Touch some air. Breathe some grass. Maybe eat it too. See what it tastes like. Might help get rid of that bitterness in your mouth.
#people seriously need to chill in this fandom#i literally could not care less about what is or isn't canon in a franchise that barely touches on romance#and the best they do is tease without any form of payoff#i also don't understand why people feel so threatened by what others ship or don't ship#does my shipping jill and leon affect you in any way??#highly doubt it#you can continue shipping what you ship and i will continue shipping what i ship#as if sending me hate will somehow make me go “you know what? you're absolutely right. i no longer like jill and leon romantically.”#“thanks for opening my eyes. :)))”#bruh#you can write me a whole essay about why jill and leon doesn't make sense to you romantically#and i will write you a whole essay about why it makes sense to me#there is something we call subjectiveness and personal preferences#it's a wild concept i know. but think about it maybe?#i will probably delete this later lol. i don't and will not respond to anon hate so anyone who sends it is wasting their breath essentially#i will block instantly#this is just a psa for the future#people who get offended over fictional pairings to the point they feel the need to send hate need therapy#actually i might even turn off anons to save myself unnecessary work

Got my score back for my presentation, & it was About what I was expecting. I knew the weak point of the presentation was how dense it was + how much I had to cover, and as a result I did end up largely reading off of the slides. Tried to insert some extra information about the stuff, but didn't have much in the way of discussion built into my slides. So like... I can accept that criticism lol (even if it does sting a lil 😭)
Overall tho I got an average score of 8.6, professor score of 8... I'm not sure actually what will count for my grade. Is he including his score in the average at the top??? Also 8.6 is also not right. When I calculated my score from the tallied numbers, I got 8.31 for class average, 8.29 if I include the professor's rating in there as just one. For some reason, what he wrote is higher than either?? I certainly won't complain about a higher score, though I'm confused lol
But yeah people in general praised my research and preparation. Also video choice. Yay!
I will now try to focus on the good points and not worry so much about the bad. Regardless of any of it, 8.6 or 8 (out of max 9) is generally Pretty Good. Might as my professor for clarification on the grades when I next see him.
#speculation nation#which will probably be on...monday. he said it doesnt rly matter if i get the thing in on friday or monday#so since i'll already be on campus monday for class. also gives me more time to do it. it just makes sense.#oh also i was praised for the use of my quiz at the beginning hfksk yayyyy#gonna be looking thru my classmates reviews again i think. theyre generally nice.#i got 9 scores of 9. 4 scores of 8. 2 of 7. and 1 of 6. (again. where 9 is the top score)#the funny thing is. well the two 7s have valid critiques on them (primarily my delivery lol)#the 6 doesnt really?? have any criticisms in it. which is strange. like girl why did u give me a 6 😭😭 tell me pls 😭😭😭#another praise i got was for including both sides of things. which tbh that was a big part of what video i chose over ERA#bc when i looked at that i was like 'why in the world would people protest against the Equal Rights Amendment?'#so i felt like it was an important thing to include. found a video that included perspectives from key figures on either side.#bc i dont Agree with the ppl who oppose it. but i think the context is important to understand Why we dont have the ERA yet.#ok looking thru all the things again makes me feel better about it all. overall the criticisms are valid lol#i definitely dont prefer the presentation style i had. just. ya kno. god there was so much to cover.#i will accept this deduction... as it is fair. also tho i do not know what my final score is 😭 professor please#'well prepared but weaker in delivery' was my professor's summary of it. yeah . yeah😔#oh well at least it's over lol. and even if it's an 8/9 thats not bad. would love the 8.6/9 to be my final score tho lol#idk i'll ask for clarification. later.

I want to talk about why I think this is the one of the most important Falin panels:
So, Falin is really nice, right? It's one of the first things we really learn about her. She's kind even to the monsters of the dungeon - choosing to ward the party rather than fight spirits and cause them needless harm.
In the above early flashback in chapter 11, we see Marcille fawning over Falin's kindness, calling her an angel. Namari calls her soft-hearted. We see Falin choose not to fight even when a zombie attacks - instead she resolves the confrontation with a hug. After the flashback, the first thing Senshi says is that Falin "sounds like quite the person," which Marcille strongly affirms.
At this point in the story, all we have seen of Falin are these impressions; she is a healer, an angel, a caretaker with an infinite well of kindness towards everyone she meets - both friend and foe.
And honestly, that remains most of what we have to go by to understand her. The only times we get to see Falin on the page, alive and just herself, are in the opening and closing pages of the story and in the brief period of time after she is resurrected.
Nonetheless, we do have some more details to work with. For one, there is the scene that The Panel is from - a short memory in chapter 75, when Marcille flashes back to while she's dying. In that scene, Falin prepares to teleport them all out, and says that she's sorry "if there is a person at [their] destination." And that's when we get The Panel.
If you teleport someone or something into another person, the person teleported into is likely to be, at minimum, severely injured. They could die.
We can see a lovely little horrifying example of exactly why in one of the Daydream Hour doodles:
So, hmm. That's not... that's not SUPER nice. Certainly not displaying the same "kindness to all, friend and foe included" we saw represented earlier. On a basic level, this adds some nuance to Falin's kindness. We see it break a little, when pushed to the limit. We see her chose to protect the people she loves above all else.
Which makes sense! As Laios says when the Winged Lion accuses him of similarly being motivated more by his friends' safety than everyone else in the dungeon, "...most people, aside from virtuous do-gooders, would feel the same way."
So, we can take The Panel as simply showing a moment of weakness for Falin. A time when she was pushed to her limits, and that "most people" selfish side of her shone through.
However... I think there's a little more going on with Falin than just her being an angel 99% of the time, except just that once. I love The Panel because I think it helps us understand that Falin isn't just motivated by kindness - she also has a desire to avoid seeing people in pain.
Isn't that the same thing?
No, no it very much is not.
Let's look at a short comic from the Falin section of the Adventurer's Bible, because I think it illustrates this point perfectly. The group is complaining about how much Marcille's healing hurts, and comparing it to Falin's, which "doesn't hurt a bit." Marcille retorts with the following:
Now, the punchline of this comic is that, despite Marcille's sentimental assertion that she's "thinking of [them]" by letting her healing magic hurt, they all still prefer to be healed by Falin.
But hey, this wouldn't be the first time that Dungeon Meshi hides a very real character beat or insight in a gag, so let's think about this somewhat seriously.
If Marcille is right (and she knows a fair bit about magic, so we can assume that she has at least somewhat of a point), then what Falin is doing isn't kind. I suppose if someone specifically requested to not feel the pain, it could be kind, but that's not really what happened here. She is the one who felt badly about the others being in pain, and she is the one who decided, without telling them or giving them a choice in the matter, to take away that pain.
Both Marcille and Falin are healing the party, but Marcille is doing it in a way that accomplishes the task in the most straight forward way, without any additional interference. Falin is going out of her way to perform the healing in a way she is more comfortable with. A way that avoids pain.
Going back the The Panel, I don't think its a coincidence that the only time we see Falin (well, non-chimera Falin) willing to do something that could hurt someone is when any potential pain will be far away from her. If she got someone hurt or killed by teleporting the party to the surface? Not only would it be far out of her sight, but she'd be dead before she had to deal with any consequences of that action.
Falin is not a confrontational person. She doesn't push when Marcille won't tell her the truth about the resurrection, and she comforts Laios about her own death - both of those things happening in the only full chapter she is alive and conscious in the whole story.
We also know that she considered accepting Shuro's proposal, despite not having any special feelings towards him, and that Falin never explained to Marcille that she wanted them to share a meal together. When she brought Marcille various foods at the academy, she just accepted Marcille's confused rejection and gave up.
And lastly, we know that she is still in contact with her parents, despite the neglect and abuse she suffered at their hands. Although the way someone chooses to handle contact with abusive or bad family is a complicated topic, which I don't want to overly simplify, I do I think this fact gets at the heart of how she handles conflict.
So many people that Falin loves have hurt her. There are understandable hurts, like Laios leaving the village, or Marcille not understanding the food. And there are bigger, far less justifiable hurts - like her parents neglecting her throughout her childhood, and sending her away to be alone at the magic academy.
It doesn't seem like Falin has ever confronted any of it directly.
And the unhealthy aspects of this kind of avoidance of pain and confrontation is one of the things that the story of Dungeon Meshi is all about. We see Laios grapple with it before he goes to kill Falin, and we see Marcille acknowledge it at the end of the story, when she tells Laios that she has come to terms with Falin's death:
Eating is a part of life. Consuming other living things is a part of life. It isn't really possible to avoid that pain - you can only hide from the truth of it. You have to be selfish everyday. You have to eat - to choose to live. To choose to take up space.
And this is something Falin embraces, too. She comes back to life, after all.
We see her choose to come back to life.
And how does she make that choice? She eats. She consumes, and then she is asked a question by the manifestation of hunger itself:
Do you want to eat more?
There is a double meaning in the Winged Lion's final words on the next page.
When I first read this, I took it as him saying: life is cruel. You will suffer. You will feel more pain.
But perhaps, especially for Falin, this also means: you are choosing a path where you must cause pain. Where you must consume. Where you must take, and must be selfish. Because eating is the special privilege of the living, and it is their burden, too. In order to stay alive, she will need to keep eating.
And she chooses that. Chooses to be selfish. It's why her resurrection scene is so important, and it's why The Panel is so important. Because Falin coming back isn't the ultimate reward for all of the party's hard work.
It's her choice. Just like it was her choice that started everything in the first place. But this time, she doesn't choose to accept causing pain for the sake of Marcille and Laios. She does it for her own sake.
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#falin touden#dunmeshi analysis#I love it when dungeon meshi says. the trauma was real and it changed you#and the way you are because of it isn’t anything to be ashamed of#but you have to keep living. you have to chose to keep living.#and you can#dungeon meshi spoilers

"I've been waiting for ages for somebody to unmask them."
This moment tends to elicit negative reactions in a first read through, and I've got some opinions about why where Kabru is coming from here actually makes a lot of logical sense. So I thought I'd elaborate on that.
I think people hear this and go, "He thinks they must be hiding something because they gave money to someone? What a cynic." Or "he dislikes them because they did charity?? What's wrong with this guy!". And obviously, a lot, a lot is wrong with him. But I think this makes more sense than it seems at first glance! What people evaluating this judgement miss is why Kabru is paying attention to Laios and co to begin with.
Kabru knows of the Touden siblings because (he's a little bit of a stalker-) he is keeping an eye on all the relevant parties in events developing on the island, in order to be able to guide them to his preferred outcome. This includes adventurers because they are the ones actually exploring the dungeon! He's well aware that something as minor as internal tensions between party members could be key to the historical events that are developing. (He would love the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.)
His desired outcome is that whatever the rewards are of breaking the dungeon's curse, whether that's kingship or the ancient elven secrets of dungeons, are claimed by:
A) a short lived person
B) Someone who will be a good, effective leader and/or use those secrets and the power they carry wisely, with foresight, and to establish a political bloc for short lived people.
The person he can best trust to do this is, of course, himself. But due to his PTSD regarding dungeons and monsters, he's not able to develop the necessary skills to conquer the dungeon. Once he realises this, he starts looking for someone else who he can support to that end.
But most of the adventurers don't have any intentions of conquering the dungeon, don't have the skills, or are unsuitable in other ways. In fact, it seems like some potentially suitable people are the Toudens. There are a lot of good rumours about them going around - they actually seem to have a very positive reputation! That's what Kabru means when he says "unmask".
So when Kabru is observing something like them giving money to an old comrade from their gold-peeling days, he doesn't consider it a problem because "they're giving money to this person who doesn't actually need it" or because they must have some dark secret if they act superficially nice. I think he actually understands this situation and what it implies about Laios (in particular) perfectly well.
Laios and Falin gave money to an old comrade who got injured and couldn't work. That person then healed up but kept taking their money. Then he used the money to start smuggling illicit goods to the island.
The key is that for Kabru, the problem here is the same as with the corpse retrievers - people using the dungeon's resources to fuel dangerous, selfish, or violent pursuits cause problems for the island, attract more criminals and people with motives other than breaking the curse, and increase the chances of the whole situation ending in tragedy.
Kabru is willing to work with the Shadow Lord of the island if it gets him to his goal - he isn't scrupulous - but the criminal element of the island increasing is something he sees as a major issue.
Also, when you're evaluating someone as a candidate for power, riches, secrets, potentially kingship - then being curious about how the money you give to people is going to be used is kind of a relevant trait!
Interpersonally, Kabru's actually very easygoing - I mean, Mickbell isn't exactly an upstanding guy, is he! But Kabru likes him and they get along well. These traits wouldn't be a problem at all in a friend, or a comrade, or someone Kabru was confident he could use. But he can't get a handle on Laios, and Laios is someone who has the potential to be a major player!
On Laios' end, this is the same as with the marriage seeker who joined their party. She kept asking for things and he gave them to her, because he tries to be nice to others. He even gives her money! It's the exact same thing.
That's fine, but it became a problem because he basically wasn't interested in her motives, didn't notice she was trying to manipulate him, and it also didn't occur to him that the other party members would notice or be affected. We can assume the situation with the gold peeler is the same. When Kabru says that "It's not that they're bad people, they just aren't interested in humans," he isn't wrong.
The extent to which this is true of Laios is linked to his autism imo, (because it isn't just disinterest - he genuinely isn't able to notice nonverbal cues that people are lying to him or have ulterior motives) but to a greater or lesser extent I think it's a very common trait. Most people aren't actually that interested in other people who aren't close to them. Kabru is the weird one here. It isn't an issue except as a leader - which is why we see an immediate comparison to the Island's Lord, because that's how Kabru is evaluating them.
And disinterest in/lack of ability with people to the extent Laios exhibits it, it does, actually, make him a worse leader... it's just that as we see in the story, people can help him out. The rest of the party tell him the marriage seeker is taking advantage of him so he tells her he can't give her special treatment anymore. They're pissed and it's a crisis point - he couldn't have recovered their trust without Marcille and Falin - but that's exactly the point. With Marcille and Falin, he was able to recover their trust.
And he has other good traits that make up for it, such as his intelligence, strategic knowledge, open-mindedness and sense of fairplay.
Kabru doesn't disqualify Laios as a candidate based on what he sees about him from afar, though - he still tries very hard to get close to him, obviously hoping that if he manages he can steer Laios to defeat the dungeon and make up for his lack of people-skills in the aftermath. (Which... he does eventually achieve that goal!) He completely fails until the events of the story, so... definitely I think "They just aren't interested in humans" could also partially be a stung reaction to Laios' complete disinterest in him.
Anyway, that's my read on what exactly Kabru's "issue" with Laios is. Obviously, once he does find out what Laios' true nature is like - about his love for monsters - he develops an entirely new set of fears about Laios' priorities. But since Laios kept that a secret until the start of the story, he has no idea of that yet.
Given all that, I think it's interesting that he says that he doesn't think that the Toudens are suitable to defeat the dungeon, and that he's hoping they'll turn out to be the thieves. As some of his few potential candidates, people who he thinks may play a big role in the island's future, you'd think he'd hope they would be good people!
I suppose it's better, in his eyes, because it means that he's involved in something "interesting". They haven't just had their stuff stolen by regular criminals (boring, puts them further away from his goal) - they've been caught up in the beginning stages of "a historic event". The desperate and dwindling group forgetting morals in their quest to retrieve their lost comrade probably appeals to his sense of melodrama. Because he also just... loves drama.
Despite it being "uglier than anything he was expecting", he still pursues Laios as the person he wants to conquer the dungeon pretty much as soon as it becomes clear that he won't be able to do it himself and they are out of time. That's because... well, to be fair, there aren't any other options. And he fits standard A: he's short-lived!
and Kabru still hopes he can fit standard B, too, and be persuaded to use the power he wins for good. No matter how many nightmares he has about Laios, or whether he thinks about killing him. He doubts him, but ultimately he puts his faith in him and seems happy after the manga's ending that he made the right decision.
#dungeon meshi#dungeon meshi manga spoilers#dungeon meshi meta#kabru of utaya#laios touden#labru#laios x kabru#dunmeshi#og post#kabru is such a big picture thinker. and he evaluates people more than he judges them imo#the hater jokes are funny but the people he judges most harshly arent laios and co. they're people like the island's lord.#but you don't see that as clearly because he isn't interested in the island's lord. he understands him. finds him contemptible but useful.#whereas laios lives in his brain rent free because he WANTS to understand him but doesnt quite.#even though he sees the elves as a major threat to his ultimate goals and dislikes the way they treat short lived races#he still understands and evaluates mithrun as an individual based on his own merits#he's one of the characters who is least judgemental in that sense because while he's always making judgements and evaluations#he's also constantly revising them whenever he gets more information#my beautiful machiavellian prince <3#it's genuinely a really laudable way of understanding others imo.#the only problem is that because he's driven towards his goals by his PTSD and survivors guilt#he pushes himself into situations (the dungeon and also interpersonally) that trigger him or even just upset him#without regard for what he authentically wants or his own wellbeing.

The Incredible Hulk (1968) #269
#so Rick’s defense of the Hulk here is immediately undercut by his envisioning of a good outcome being Bruce’s mind in the Hulk’s body#but that itself is interesting because is framed as not coming from a place of concern about the Hulk directly#but anxiety about Rick’s own identity and place in the world when he’s defined himself as the Hulk’s sidekick#his daydream values the Hulk only for his strength and wants to combine that with Bruce’s intelligence#there’s nothing about the Hulk’s personality that’s brought up when thinking about the Hulk’s right to live#and then at the end of the issue he tries to turn himself into a Hulk and says then that it's fine for Bruce to be cured#really making it clear that he was not actually concerned about the Hulk#I really do think that the fact that the Hulk isn’t intelligent makes the idea of eradicating him a lot more palatable#not just from the problems that causes but that it devalues him in people's eyes both in and out of universe#no he does not have a right to live because other people are clearly worth more#and I like that Rick is falling into that because I really don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t#like Jim Wilson is the one that I think actually understands and likes the Hulk and supports him for that reason#whereas Rick is motivated by his debt to Bruce#and I like that Betty is coming out and saying that she’s against Bruce identifying with the Hulk#I honestly prefer her disliking the Hulk over her liking him#because again it doesn't really make sense for her to feel positively about him#I like that the narration describes Bruce as ‘thoroughly obsessed with himself’#and that Bruce couldn’t even give Betty a nice moment out in the desert without freaking out#it’s been a while since Bruce and Betty have been in a relationship so it’s good to see that drama again#to think that I was frustrated with Rick and Betty’s return to the book#because I thought the approach to their feelings about the Hulk and this arc about trying to cure Bruce was simplistic#I've been in a bit of a slump with my Hulk readings but I genuinely think the Hulk's 'friends' treating him poorly is turning that around#because I really like this#marvel#bruce banner#betty ross#rick jones#my posts#comic panels

You see, the biggest problem with this is that Five HAD a love story all along.
His love for his family has been THE very foundation of the show and what kickstarted the entire chain of events.
He spent 45 years in the apocalyptic wasteland because he loved them too much to give up.
He found them in every possible timeline.
He reversed time for them.
He became an assassin to get a shot, however small, at coming back to them.
He’s been through countless timelines, doing his best to save and protect them in every single one of them.
No matter how dire the situation, he always pushed to find a way to save his family. His devotion was stronger than anything and there was no line he wouldn’t cross for his siblings. No matter how self-destructive the cost, he sacrificed himself again and again just for a chance at reuniting with them and saving the world so they could live.
It was a destructive kind of love, yes, but also inspiring. I think it resonated with many people because love can be intense, we love and want to be loved with this kind of intensity and dedication.
So, to throw it all away for a romantic subplot that no one asked for is not only a huge disservice to Five’s character but also goes against everything he represents. We already knew he’s capable of love and that he loves deeply.
I don’t understand how the showrunner who worked on the series for 5+ years can say that Five had to have an arc like this. It doesn’t make sense. He already had a love story. Arguably, the most beautiful and deepest of them all. He didn’t need more, what he needed was to have it returned and to finally settle down after multiple lifetimes of putting his life on the line to keep his loved ones safe.
To say otherwise means that the writers fundamentally misunderstood what made Five a great character and what fans loved most about the show. It feels like a betrayal, because it is one. It proves that the creators not only misunderstood the core character of the show but also never paid attention to the fandom and its preferences.
There’s a difference between catering to the audience and what they ended up doing, which is a character assassination at its worst. And it’s not just the character who was ruined but also the entire premise of the show, the reason why fans loved it in the first place. There’s no coming back from something like this.

same book, different chapters
synopsis: an ordinary evening takes a turn when katsuki expresses what you've always known but never expected to hear.
pairing: timeskip!bakugou katsuki x f!reader
being with katsuki is a lesson in unspoken understanding. you knew who he is long before you started dating him—loud, brash, and not the type to share his feelings openly.
but it didn’t take long to realize there’s so much more to him than that. his love is quiet, reserved, and shown in the details:
how he pulls you out of the way of a passing car, or how he remembers the smallest things, like your favorite kind of tea or that you prefer your coffee without sugar.
and that is enough for you. mostly.
you didn’t expect him to be the kind of boyfriend who says "I love you" with ease. katsuki isn’t like that. it isn’t something you hold against him either.
but every now and then, a small part of you wonders what it would be like to hear him say it—to hear those three words slip past his lips in the same way they had from yours.
you say it first, a quiet “I love you” in the middle of a peaceful night when the world outside feels still.
his response comes in the shape of hugging you tighter, securing you in his arms. however, he doesn’t say it back, and you don’t expect him to. you don’t need him to.
still, there are times when you find yourself holding your breath, wondering if one day he’ll actually verbalize it.
it isn’t that you doubt his feelings. katsuki isn’t one to waste time on things or people he doesn’t care about.
you know how much he cares by the way he silently takes care of you, always putting you first in his own way, even when his words are rough around the edges.
it’s just that sometimes, words have a way of making things feel more real.
tonight is one of those easy evenings you cherish—one where you don’t have to think too much about anything. the two of you are in your kitchen, making dinner together, though “together” is generous.
you’re doing most of the work while katsuki stands next to you, arms crossed, casting a critical eye over everything you do.
“you’re putting too much salt,” he says, the frown on his face making you smile.
“pretty sure this is the exact amount the recipe says to use,” you reply, amused at how serious he always gets when it comes to food.
“tch, that recipe’s wrong. I could’ve made this better with my eyes closed.”
“then why don’t you?” you tease, turning your head to glance at him. his gaze is sharp as usual, but the small curve in the corner of his lips betrays him.
“maybe I’ll cook next time,” he grumbles, looking away like the very idea of giving in bothers him.
you laugh softly, enjoying the banter. this is something you love about him—how even in these simple moments, his presence fills the space with a sense of ease.
there’s no pressure to be anything other than yourselves, even when his blunt honesty clashes with your more relaxed approach.
as you stir the pot, you can’t help but let your thoughts wander back to the three words. you know katsuki isn’t the type to say things until he’s ready, and you respect that.
but part of you is curious—would it ever come naturally to him, or would it always be something unspoken between the two of you?
still, as you stand there, the warmth of his steady presence beside you, you realize that maybe you’re okay with it remaining unspoken. katsuki shows his love in ways that don’t need words to validate them.
and then, without warning, you feel his arms wrap around your waist from behind, his chin resting on your shoulder. you freeze for a moment, caught off-guard.
“katsuki?” you ask, your voice soft, as you lean into him instinctively.
he doesn’t answer right away, just holds you there. his touch isn’t hesitant, but it is different from the usual casual touches you’ve grown used to.
“you’re annoying sometimes,” he mutters, voice low in your ear.
you chuckle, relaxing further into his hold. “I know.”
there’s silence for a beat, and then: “but I love you anyway, idiot.”
you blink, unsure if you’ve heard him correctly. you turn your head slightly, trying to see his face, but he buries it against your neck, hiding his expression. “did you just—?”
“don’t make a big deal out of it,” he mumbles, voice suddenly gruff, though you can hear the embarrassment beneath the words.
a smile breaks across your face, warmth spreading through your chest. you didn’t expect it, but that makes it all the more special. he isn’t saying it because the moment demands it.
he isn’t saying it because you’re waiting. he says it because he wants to, because he feels it.
“I’m not,” you reply, trying to sound nonchalant but failing miserably as your happiness bubbles up in your voice. “but…I love you too.”
you feel his grip tighten around you and a kiss pressed to your shoulder.

get anything you desire overnight; what is SATS? how do i use it? — a quick guide.
STATS is short for “state akin to sleep,” a phrase used by neville goddard several times.
for example, one of neville's most popular experiments utilizing SATS is called the "ladder experiment". this experiement demonstrates how useful sats is.
what was the experiment?
1. During one of his lectures, Neville instructed his students to visualize themselves climbing a ladder vividly. He asked them to repeatedly imagine this scenario in detail each night before going to bed. They were to feel themselves climbing the ladder, using all their senses to make it as real as possible.
2. on top of this, Neville told them to write down or say affirmations throughout the day such as, "I will not climb a ladder." This was meant to consciously contradict their nightly visualizations, creating a sense of disbelief in the process. The challenge was to see whether their repeated visualization of the ladder would override the conscious denial of the event.
3. Many of the participants reported that within a few days, despite their daily affirmation of "I will not climb a ladder," they ended up encountering situations in which they physically climbed a ladder. The experiment was intended to show that the subconscious mind, which was being impressed by the vivid visualization during the SATS state, was far more powerful than their conscious thoughts or affirmations.
essentially, Neville wanted to show that imagination, particularly when focused in the relaxed state akin to sleep, could create real-life outcomes, aka — attract your desires instantly.
so . . . how do i use SATS?
1. relax. sit or lie down, and relax your mind and body. this method does not need to be used at night. many people have used it during the day and have gone to sleep for only a few moments before waking up with their desire. This is basically just a form of meditation. A similar mental state occurs naturally in the morning right after awakening, and in the evening before bed, hence why some may prefer to do this method at night despite it not being mandatory.
2. embody the feeling. now while in this state, visualize your goal. Feel your desire completely. want someone to text you? imagine yourself opening your phone to that text message. want a new car? imagine yourself feeling the interior, smelling the new car freshener, testing out the radio. whatever it is, fully immerse yourself in the desire.
3. focus and persist. loop this desire on repeat as you fall asleep, it should be the only focus on your mind. quickly shift any other thoughts that may appear, back onto your desire. the more you do this, the more you'll feel the desire completely.
brief comments;
1. over time, it becomes more and more natural. it's very easy to get into the habit of using SATS to manifest whatever you desire. i often find myself using it without even intending to, just randomly deciding i want something and it becomes all i think about as i fall asleep. it's a very natural method that's easy to custom to.
2. yes, you can use this for shifting realities. there's a reason why so many people "randomly" shift when they stop using long complicated methods and just go to sleep with their DR in mind.
3. you don't need to take action. you don't necessarily need to do anything when manifesting. this doesn't just apply for SATS, but any other form of manifestation. you don't need to take action or do anything further to get your desires if you don't feel like it. remember; they're already yours. they can fall into your hands out of the blue. you don't need to put in effort.
i used several different articles and videos for this to explain it in the most simple way possible, since i know a lot of people tend to struggle with understanding this stuff to the maximum!! so i hope this is easy to read! ૮ ◞ ⸝⸝ ◟ ྀིა
4. does this mean affirmations don't work?
no, it does not. affirmations DO still work for LOA. you CAN achieve anything through affirmations, it was never stated that you couldn't or that SATS is the only way. this only states that according to neville goddards experiement, sats appears to be a more powerful method than affirmations and that's how he viewed it. more powerful doesn't equate to the other method being completely incorrect or impossible. i also personally find this method to work a lot quicker as well.. similar to the void state.
edit; i didn't realize i wrote stats in the title and not sats lol, my mistake it was autocorrect

You’re Jealous
Summary: You get jealous of someone else in his life.
Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Ace, Sabo, Law, and Kid
Genre: Slight Angst // Fluff
CW: None // SFW
———
Luffy:
He never told you Boa Hancock was in love with him, and when you find out, you have to remove yourself from the situation before you have an emotional outburst and start something with the Pirate Empress. The problem is, you don’t even know which emotion will spill out of you. Finding out the world’s most beautiful woman, and a powerful Warlord, no less, is desperate to marry Luffy is a whirlwind, to say the least. Luffy can seem clueless at times, but his emotional intelligence is through the roof, and he picks up on what has you upset almost straight away. He knows to give you some space, and when he senses you’re ready, he approaches you with a handful of wildflowers he picked. He doesn’t really say much, just pulls you into a hug, presses a few kisses into your cheek and temple, and says in your ear, “you’re my girl.”
Zoro:
He didn’t mention Perona was also at Mihawk’s castle for those two years until a few months after the crew gets together. He tells a story that features her, and you realize there was a woman keeping him company. Your heart drops into your stomach. Zoro insists he didn’t mention her because he didn’t think she was relevant; the only thing Perona did those two years was annoy him. He’s actually the one who won’t let it go, not you (even though you are pretty jealous). Whereas you’d prefer not to talk about it, Zoro is wracked with guilt because he’d never considered the whole thing in a relationship context. Him fretting constantly over it actually heals your jealousy because you realize you’ve never seen him panic over the prospect of hurting anyone else’s feelings.
Sanji:
Even with a third eye, Pudding is stunning. And Sanji almost married her. It was before you two were together, but listening to the stories from Whole Cake, hearing how close he came to marrying another woman, knowing she really did fall in love with his kind heart and wonderful cooking, turns you into a little green monster. You know you shouldn’t feel jealous of a woman you’ve never met before, a woman Sanji chose not to marry, but you can’t help it. Sanji is completely shocked that you would feel jealous over his relationship (if it could even be called that) with Pudding, though after thinking about it some more, he does realize why you might be jealous that he had a fiancé. His solution is to bring you a bouquet of roses and walk you through the dark details of his life, telling you things he’s never outright told anyone, so you understand the special place you have in his life.
Ace:
He collects people without trying, and often times, without realizing, either. Ace thinks he’s just making friends, but you see the way the women he laughs and shares drinks with are drawn to him like plants to the sun. He promises them freedom and adventure (and he has a very nice laugh), and you can see how it excites them. You don’t really mind it, knowing Ace well enough to see the way he holds those women at arm’s length, even if he seems close with them (such is the magic of Fire First Ace). But Yamato makes you jealous. It’s not hearing the way they laughed together but hearing the way they fought that gets to you. You know how Ace lives to fight and even just roughhouse, you know how he’s a rough and tumble guy, and you worry you’re not tough enough. Should you be punching his arm when he makes a joke? Should you be trying to trip him out on deck? What should you be doing? When you finally come clean with Ace about what’s been bothering you, he actually laughs. “If I wanted to be with someone who gives me hell, I’d be sleeping in Marco’s cabin every night. Besides,” he says, scooping you up in his arms, “I like being able to manhandle you.”
Sabo:
Sabo is a flirt, and you knew that going into your relationship. It actually doesn’t bother you when he flashes that charming smile of his at someone else or swoops in to save a damsel in distress (a speciality of his) and even serves to entertain, especially on the rare occasions his flirtations are rebuked. What does bother you, though, is his tight relationship with Koala. You know it’s ridiculous to be envious, you know Koala would sooner saw off her arm than kiss the man she considers her irksome big brother, but they’ve known each other since they were little kids, and Koala has been through so much with Sabo that the pair have such a close bond. It’s not the angry kind of jealousy that bubbles up in you when Koala mentions something about Sabo’s past that she assumes you know but you don’t, just the sad kind that you try to keep to yourself. Surprisingly, Sabo notices, though you don’t realize until he hugs you from behind and mumbles in your ear that he’s glad you’re the only one who knows he has a skincare routine, his silly words diffusing your mood and acting as the exact affirmation you needed. If it’s not enough, though, he’ll happily prove his loyalty to you by challenging Koala to a karate match, though.
Law:
Dr. Law and Dr. Robin sure do get along well- so well, in fact, you can’t help but wonder if they are better suited to each other than you and him. Even if they didn’t have such good chemistry, it would be impossible not to feel a touch of jealousy toward the archeologist. She’s intelligent, beautiful, fiercely loyal, a member of the Straw Hats, and has an impressive bounty that she earned even before she became a pirate. Needless to say, you find yourself brooding when the Robin brings him a beer and sits down beside him to discuss the immune systems of fishmen, a topic both are rather interested in. Of course, you’re interested in that, too, thus the reason Law realizes something is wrong when you don’t participate in the conversation. He ends up excusing the two of you and taking you to bed, worrying you had too much to drink, the thought you may be jealous never once occurring to him. You end up not saying anything (many thing in your relationship with Law being unspoken) and just sleeping it off, the fact that he excused the two of you proof enough of his loyalty.
Kid:
He doesn’t ever talk about his first love, Victoria. In fact, you didn’t even know she existed until Killer got drunk one night and began speaking of his dearly departed. What he didn’t mention was that Kid, too, had been in love with her. It only comes up the next night when you mention it to Wire, who mentions it was the death of his first love, Victoria, that put Kid on the war path and united the first four members of the Kid Pirates. Realizing Wire messed up, Heat chimes in to say, “he’d do the same for you.” But you’re not convinced, mainly because Kid never told you any of this. It tears you apart, leaves you tossing and turning for nights on end, until you finally burst into Kid’s workshop one night ranting about how he doesn’t trust you and holds you at arm’s length. “Heat says you’d do the same for me, but-” Kid cuts you off and says, “I wouldn’t do the same, I’d do worse. Much, much worse.” And from the wicked gleam in his eye, you’re inclined to believe him.
