If Anakin went back in time, and somehow became a master and took Obiwan as his padawan, how would that change them both? Would they become a couple? I love your reviews on them, thank you so much for blessing the obikin fandoom <33
Tumblr media
Awww you are so sweet!! Love my Obikin fam!! Best part of the SW fandom!
Hmmm if there was a role reversal and Anakin trained Obi? Well, we have already seen that Anakin is a SUPERB Master. Ahsoka is well known to be one of the most revered, powerful, trustworthy, honest, upstanding, and noble force users in history. She credits Anakin's teachings CONSTANTLY for this, and sees Anakin as a good person - she believes in him ardently and unfailingly even when she is confronted with Vader. She does, in fact, blame the Jedi institution for Anakin's fall canonically. She is literally his biggest stan.
Given that, I'd say Anakin would have done a decent job training any padawan including Obi-wan. He would've for sure been encouraging and tried to get Obi out of the structured regimented thinking he relies on out of anxiety. This is something he did as Obi's contemporary and friend, and I can only assume it wouldve helped tremendously in Obi's formative years. If you know about Obi-wan's relationship with Qui-gon, it seems Anakin wouldve been a much warmer and supportive alternative as a master.
I think Obi-wan would have benefitted from Anakin's teachings. I do still think Anakin would have fallen to the dark side - and the ending on Mustafar would have played out much the same way. Obi-wan is not Ahsoka OR Luke. Obi-wan doesn't ever try to save Anakin so much as he does feel deeply betrayed by him. I don't think Obi-wan is a very "let me save you" kind of dude. He's more than a little severe, judgemental, but ultimately undone by his unexpressed emotional attachments.
I wanna say something dope like "Oh I think Obi wouldve been the one to turn to the darkside in this case" but I think ultimately the beauty of the Anakin/Obi-wan dynamic is inherently in the notion that no switch up of their roles or stations would effect the outcome of their relationship or affection for each other - or even necessarily their personalities.
They are very much eternal yin/yang always and never touching.

Empress Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Songs: Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby by CAS and Candy Necklaces by Lana Del Rey
(Padme’s POV)
*I am running across a rocky terrain, running, running, running until I fall down a dark crack in the ground. I scream but my throat is dry and my lips are sealed. I keep falling down, down, down…*
I wake up covered in cold sweat feeling my abdomen ache. I let out a cry as Anakin pulls me into his embrace. I rest my head under his chin as he rubs my back to soothe me.
“My love, I can tell you had another nightmare” he says quietly. “Remember Nothing is gonna hurt while I’m here alright.” I look up at him with tears in my eyes I believe him but I fear of what lengths he would go to keep me safe.
“Ani…” I start hesitantly “we gotta address this.”
“What do you mean my empress, what do we need to address? I have you and you are safe. We can finally use our power to create a safer galaxy together.”
“Ani I gotta know what is going on. What am I going to do now? What about our family?” Of course I have way more questions to ask, but this is all I can get out in my emotional post nightmare state. Anakin looks at me and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear before giving me a soft smile.
“You can do whatever you desire my love. If you wanna stay at home with our babies you can. If you want to work at my side and make our galaxy the perfect place for our little family, you can my love.” He gives me a soft kiss on the forehead before continuing: “all you have to do is the words and I will make it happen my love.”
I know what I want but I don’t think I can say it out loud.
“You seem troubled… I can sense it my love. Just tell what you are thinking. Remember you are free with me my love.” He says softly.
“I want things to be how they were, or maybe how I wanted them to be.” I say softly. I know this is the one thing Anakin doesn’t want to hear. I know this because his face hardens a bit and he can hardly meet my gaze.
“You want to back to when we had to hide? Because the order could not accept my love and care for you?” He says in way making him seem almost hurt.
“Ani… I don’t mean that. I just… I wanted to raise our little ones in Naboo. I wanted to set up a nursery for them in a safe planet where they would be under our care. I wanted you to tell Obi Wan, I wanted you to tell the Order how dedicated you are to creating a better galaxy making it known that I won’t get in the way of that. Ani… I didn’t want this… I wanted peace with you.” A small tear escapes my eyes as I admit this. Anakin caresses my cheek as he finally meets my gaze.
“I understand Padme, but things could’ve ever been that way okay? The order was cold, rigid, and would’ve understood. I refuse any world where I would have to keep you or my children secret from the world. I refused it then and I would a thousand times over. You are my empress you deserve the light of a thousand suns to illuminate your beauty, in no world are you going to be hidden away, you belong at my side.” He said with a passion I have seen in his eyes only a few times in my life. He then takes my hand and intertwines it with mine.
I lay back against his chest allowing him to stroke my hair, if he is right and the circumstances I hoped for aren’t possible I must rethink my plans. “Ani… I want to stay home with our babies, but I ask one thing. I want to advise you I want to rule at your side Anakin, I know politics inside and out. I know the senate, and I know some of them are in a fury over your takeover right now, but I can calm them.” Anakin looks at me and give me a soft smile, his look of approval. If things can’t be the way they were I must make the most of it, with him.
***
(Anakins POV)
I run my hand over her soft curls and feel the happiest I have in a long time knowing my love is safe. With the smartest most brilliant woman in the galaxy by my side I know we can change this place for the better.
“My empress” I whisper quietly as I hold her close to me.
***
Authors Note: Let me know of any ideas you have for this story! I can also write short chapters of them doing cute things together.

I’ve contemplated a lot about why Luke was the sort of person that Anakin felt inspired enough to turn his back on Sidious and the dark side for, while Padme, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka weren’t.
While Anakin does become a hypocrite who no one was obligated to forgive after he turned dark, regardless of his tragic circumstances and compromised agency, I think Luke was the one who finally inspired him to turn back because, in spite of as “above it all” as Obi-Wan, Padme, and even Ahsoka wanted to believe they were, they still had many of the same issues Anakin developed of feeling pressured to be people pleasers to corrupt authority figures, expectations, and rules that they knew were wrong out of fear of the unknown under compromised agency, moral hypocrisy, pride, manipulative tactics, selfishness, and/or an exceedingly vengeful side in their anger that they were not willing to pull back on when they dueled him or other enemies that piss him off.
Padme, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka loved Anakin, but they were also prideful, self-centered, and terrified people who were too afraid to admit that their methods flawed, too afraid to take a stand against the standards of these broken systems they were born into, too afraid to admit they were wrong, too afraid to take risks to do better, and too afraid to admit that they weren’t as “above it all” as they pretended to be.
Luke Skywalker being Anakin’s son is definitely one of the influencing factors that inspires him to turn back to the light. However, it’s also because Luke is self-accepting of his bad decisions, flaws, and mistakes. He’s aware that the old Jedi Order was deeply flawed, hypocritical, and misguided, in spite of their good intentions. He’s unwilling to stoop to the same level as his enemies. He won’t let himself get carried away with baiting his father into a fight when he gets angry, and start making justifications of how he’s “right” just because he has good intentions, just because he was fucked with first, just because he’s not a Sith, or just because it’s “too dangerous” to take a risk to be honest, kind, and offer one of his enemies (his father) a better opportunity when he sees that he really is also a victim of Sidious who is still struggling against his darker instincts and searching for freedom and love from family. He refuses to enable Anakin’s slave mentality and ultimately refuses to let his father believe that “Anakin Skywalker is dead.”
This isn’t saying that Anakin is an innocent, that Luke was obligated to forgive him, or that his victims didn’t have valid reasons to fear him and resent him. Of course, they did. The point is that in those little moments where he tries to reach out to Ahsoka, Padme, and Obi-Wan about being unhappy with the Jedi and keeping secrets of his marriage before going dark, backs off, says “Don’t make me destroy you,” or lets them go, they all had an opportunity to refuse to further perpetuate the cycle of abuse by acting in anger and vengeance. They could have refused to encourage his sense of compromised agency. They could have broken the cycle of system sting abuse, crime, and oppression with Anakin in those instances by being the bigger person.
Instead Padme and Obi-Wan encouraged him to continue to stay with the Jedi and/or keep his marriage secret when they knew their systems were corrupt, and knew he was becoming increasingly emotionally/mentally unstable and unhappy in ways that made him a danger to himself and those around him out of fear of the unknown by pretending that he would just get better if they told him he would when he tried to say otherwise.
Instead, Ahsoka ended up declaring that she’d “avenge her master” when he refused to join her right away and told her “Anakin Skywalker is dead because he destroyed him.”
Instead, Obi-Wan egged him on into a duel on Mustafar by using Padme as bait, and refused to back off after getting him to let go of Padme from his reckless blind rage/paranoia force choke before killing her when he thought she brought Obi-Wan to kill him and even got him to a point where he could tell Obi-Wan “Don’t make me kill you.” When Anakin cornered him again 10 years later for revenge that he clearly didn’t want as much as he had convinced himself he did because he still cared about Obi-Wan deep down, tells Obi-Wan “I destroyed Anakin Skywalker, not you,” and even gives Obi-Wan a chance to run away, Obi-Wan allows Anakin to continue to believe that Anakin is dead, convinces himself that he is, and he runs away to compartmentalize his own guilt over how he mistreated Anakin.
Instead, another ten years later, Obi-Wan more or less encourages Anakin/Vader to kill him by just standing there after confronting him in A New Hope, and saying “I’ll become more powerful than you can ever imagine.”
So the reason as to why Anakin can’t be inspired to atone or do better by Ahsoka, Padme, or Obi-Wan isn’t just because he’s a deeply flawed person. It’s because they are too, they live in denial of it, and let him live in denial of it, too.
#Padme Amidala was deeply flawed#Anakin was deeply flawed#Ahsoka was deeply flawed#obi wan was deeply flawed#and they all lived in denial of just how deeply broken and flawed they all were and kept encouraging Anakin to pretend like he was okay#sacrificing his better instincts and happiness to try to conform to these broken systems that they all knew were messed up out of fear#until he finally stopped trying to fight back and became a serious problem for their well-being out of fear of these corrupt authorities too#when he couldn’t get anyone to listen when he DID try to reach out for emotional support and escape to fight back#like in spite of telling them that ‘Anakin Skywalker is dead’ are obi-wan Ahsoka and Luke willing to let him believe that or not?#when he tells obi-wan and Luke ‘don’t make me destroy you’ hesitated to kill them or gives them a chance to reason with him or walk away#are they going to run away act defensively or stoop to his level and try to kill him when he’s hesitating and being vulnerable?#when he gives obi wan ahsoka and Luke a chance to back off in their duels as vader are they going to fight run away or try to reason?#when he tells Ahsoka revenge is not the Jedi way is she going to agree that vengeance is bad or stoop to his level?#it’s because Anakin is desperately looking for someone who is good and self-aware enough to realize that both sides are messed up#and he can feel safe just being the best version of himself rather than throwing away his moral integrity and sense of self to conform#it’s like he’s testing people he cares about to see if they will encourage him to break the cycle of toxicity in the galaxy#to realize that both the old Jedi/Republic and Sith/Empire were deeply fucked up governments and institutions#or continue to enable and perpetuate it themselves#to not stoop to his level and enable or perpetuate terrible behaviors choices or crimes ‘for good’ fear of the unknown or revenge#to these broken systems that enable and perpetuate systematic abuse of power crime and vengeance ‘for the greater good’ out of fear#pt jedi critical#anti jedi apologists#anakin skywalker#darth vader#luke skywalker#Luke was the only one who could inspire Anakin to redeem himself because he was the only one who didn’t get caught up in the cycle himself#and the only one who refused to let his father believe that ‘Anakin was dead’

Knowing the Routine
They didn't hide secrets from each other. They didn't hide anything.
─── ❖ ── ✦ ── ❖ ───
Anakin walked, hood up as he made his way down the moonlit cooridor of the temple. He walked slowly, the whole 123 steps, one minute and 23 seconds, an extra ten if he tripped on the loose stone. He did not trip. The moon shone on 3/4 of the door, as it did on a clear night. If it was cloudy, no light would shine on the door. For Obi-Wan's room was almost always on the shadow. When the light shone on it, from the sun or moons, it was only under certain circumstances, like a clear sky at 1:32 AM. 1:34 now that Anakin had pondered. Usually those two minutes were because Anakin felt an anxiety about disturbing Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan was always asleep when Anakin came in. He didn't take off his hood, he walked over and sat on the floor by Obi-Wan and his bedside. "Master." Anakin whispered, looking up at Obi-Wan's sleeping face. "Master, can I open the blinds?" He asked in the same whisper.
"Mmm-" Obi-Wan heard Anakin's voice but he couldn't respond for he was still lost in sleep. When he opened his eyes, he saw the blurriness of his padawan and his heart called him to wake. "Anakin, my padawan?"
"Can I open the blinds?" Anakin whispered, an eagerness in his voice, the eagerness of his still young heart. "Master, let me open them, please."
"Alright Anakin, yes," Obi-Wan sat up, all his tiredness gone in an instant. Over the years, Obi-Wan didn't respond to anything in the way he responded to Anakin. It was only the voice of his padawan that called him to action with an urgency like no other. "Is something wrong?"
"No, no," Anakin opened the blinds and had a childish smile on his face. He walked back over and sat on the bed, "I just think..." Anakin drew his knees to his chest, wanting to hide away, "I think I just gotta sit." Anakin never needed a reason to seek comfort, this was something Obi-Wan taught Anakin, that he never needed a reason to be loved.
Obi-Wan nodded, sinking back into his bed, being put at ease since Anakin was. Obi-Wan laid back down, his eyes heavy again. "If you're okay?-"
"Yeah, it's okay if you went to sleep again." Anakin whispered, silently wishing Obi-Wan didn't have to ask to go to sleep for he'd taught Anakin the opposite. Obi-Wan didn't follow his own teachings, teachings that he sought so hard for Anakin to understand. Teachings of love.
Constantly, Obi-Wan told Anakin he never had to ask for things he'd considered 'the bare minimum.' But here Obi-Wan was, doing the opposite. Obi-Wan wouldn't be himself without doing the absolute. Always asking to live. Anakin knew it best to just give Obi-Wan permission, for it'd ease some part of his mind. Anakin didn't ask but sometimes he wished he was brave enough to. Instead, he let Obi-Wan go to sleep. He tuned in, sensing his master drift to sleep, trying to sense something more. But, just as he did everytime he did this, he never found the answer, for he always fell asleep.
Anakin and Obi-Wan didn't hide secrets from each other. Which was why Anakin opened the blinds, so that right now wasn't a secret. Obi-Wan was technically here too, so with the moon peeking in and Obi-Wan present but asleep, this wasn't a secret, was it? That was the only way Anakin felt okay, they didn't hide secrets from each other, and luckily, this wasn't a secret.
Anakin sensed how deep a slumber his master was in before standing up. He pulled up the blankets so Obi-Wan wouldn't catch a chill. Anakin needed him to stay asleep. Anakin stood up, his barefeet touched the cold floor, he took a silent step, making way to Obi-Wan's dresser and opening it with the force. Anakin dug around, but he didn't find it. The next drawer, nothing, and the next, and the next, he always found nothing. He opened the closet, a lot of robes and not a lot of anything else. There was literally nothing. Anakin let out a sigh, "Come on Obi, where is it?"
Anakin turned around and saw his master still soundly asleep. "You butt hole, you knew I'd do this, didn't you?" Anakin huffed in his frustration.
"Damn right I did, you little shit-"
Anakin rolled his eyes, crossing his arms as he walked back to the bed and sat down, "I wanna know, Obi-Wan!"
"And you will, in six hours, to be exact-" Obi-Wan sat up, letting out a yawn.
"But it's passed midnight! It's technically my birthday already!" Anakin continued to complain, "Also, side note, why do your socks have embroidered smiley faces on them?"
"Side note, why were you looking in my sock drawer?"
"I side noted first-"
"Nuh uh,"
"Yuh huh,"
"Nuh uh-"
"Yuh huh-"

“It’s freezing. Come here.” from the prompt list please~!
okay same thing as the other one, i know you asked this like five billion years ago, but life has been A Lot recently so i’m sorry this is late!! but here you are.
this one features anakin being a little shit, while also Hopelessly Pining~
enjoy, my dear!! ❤️
(also, all the science in this? fictional. would a space heater be picked up by scanners? would they be able to exist without life systems on? idk bro, just avert your eyes for the sake of the plot)
______
Ilum, despite its significance for the Jedi Order, is a horrible planet. Anakin shivers in the small space of the command room, his bedroll and blankets doing very little to keep him safe from the cold seeping in through every crack in the ship. Beside him, Obi-wan sits cross legged on his own bedroll, rubbing his hands together, buried under layers and layers of material. A large thermos of tea sits in front of him, shut tightly to keep the heat in; it has to last through Ilum’s long, thirty six hour night.
Rumors of Separatist forces stealing bits of kyber from the crystal cave had snaked their way back to the council, which had been received with profound distress; the cave is sacred to the Jedi, not to mention a large component in making weapons. Anakin, nor the council, doesn’t think Separatists are making lightsabers, but the fact is, he doesn’t know. No one knows why they would be here.
Thus, Obi-wan and Anakin, The Team, had been sent to investigate.
Investigating looks a lot more like parking outside the entrance of the cave and sitting inside of a cold, nondescript shuttle with the engine and life support systems turned off, to ensure no scanners or droids would pick them up. The only light in the shuttle streams in through the transperisteel viewport from Ilum’s two moons, casting most of the command room into shadows. At least they had brought plenty of blankets, warm clothing, and a small radiant heater that had been charged prior to landing.
Anakin notices Obi-wan shaking, his many layers and fur-lined jacket doing nothing to hide the tremors. His fingertips are pale around the thermos when he pushes the lid off, bringing it to his hooded face to let the steam waft up into his chin. He takes a small sip and closes his eyes, focusing on the warmth flooding his chest. He looks miserable, and Anakin feels helpless in making it better, cheering his old master up. He knows it isn’t his responsibility, and that Obi-wan is more than capable of taking care of himself.
Still, he wants to do something.
They’ve been sitting in silence for the better part of the night, having run out of conversation hours ago. When Anakin speaks, his voice is scratchy, like he had just woken up.
“Hey, it’s freezing, c’mere,” he motions for Obi-wan to scoot closer to him.
Obi-wan’s eyes blink open slowly, full of caution and distrust. “I don’t know what you’re planning, but absolutely not.”
Anakin scoffs. “I’m not planning anything, just get over here.”
“Anakin I practically raised you, I know when you’re up to something.” Obi-wan is still holding the thermos to his chin, huddled into himself. He closes his eyes again, and if Anakin didn’t know any better, it would look like he’s meditating. He does, however, know better.
“Just, get over here, will you?” Anakin makes an exasperated noise and pat pats the space next to him. “Let me warm your hands up.”
Obi-wan sighs, as if the universe had cursed him with such a nuisance of a padawan, and peels his eyes open again. He pushes the lid of the thermos closed, disgruntled, and scooches closer to Anakin, pulling his nest of blankets with him. He begins to hold his hands out, but pauses, eyeing Anakin intently for any hint of mischievousness, and finding none, offers them to him fully.
Too easy, Anakin thinks.
He grins like an imp and darts his hands out to grab Obi-wan’s wrists, pulling Obi-wan’s hands up his shirt and into his armpits, where he squishes them into place and fortifies his grasp, prepared for Obi-wan’s initial recoil.
Obi-wan flinches, and screws his face up in disgust, trying to tug backwards. “Anakin, don’t be vile, let me go.” But Anakin is giggling like a schoolboy, clenching his arms down on Obi-wan’s hands, his grip on Obi-wan’s wrists impossible to break out of.
“No, I’m warming your hands up.” Anakin teases, and takes in Obi-wan’s outraged expression, his murderous glower a stark contrast to the fluffy pile of blankets that hang off him, and can’t help the bubble of affection that expands in his chest. He used to love pranking his master, used to love setting up harmless traps to gain a reaction out of Obi-wan Kenobi, the perfect Jedi. It’s been years since he’s had the chance to laugh like this.
Then a corner of Obi-wan’s mouth tugs back in a devious grin, and the bubble of affection pops, leaving only pure dread. Anakin immediately regrets his little stunt.
Obi-wan manages to squirm a little in his hold, rotating his hands enough so that his fingers can poke into Anakin’s armpits, tickling him. Anakin vaults backwards, but Obi-wan stays with him, tongue poking out in between his teeth, a full smile on his face.
“No, stop-” Anakin is suffocating with laughter, trying, and failing, to shove Obi-wan off.
Obi-wan shoves him back and hooks a leg over his stomach, straddling him. “But, dear padawan, my hands aren’t warm yet.” He’s snickering, all of his blankets pushed to the side in the tousle. Anakin’s shirt is pushed up to his chest as he lays on his back, exposing his skin to the cold.
Anakin knows he’s making obscene noises as Obi-wan tickles him, aborted laughs and high pitched yelps, and a string of incoherent no, stop, please, get off is bubbling out of his mouth before he can even think about it. Obi-wan’s eyes are alight above him, twinkling, full of glee.
After what feels like years, Obi-wan relents, coming to rest his hands on the broad plain of Anakin’s chest. They’re both heaving air, breathless from all the play fighting and laughing. “And here I thought you were actually going to be nice to me, for once.” Obi-wan leans down towards his face, cocking an eyebrow at him.
Anakin lets his head thump onto the ground, exposing his neck, and rests his hands on Obi-wan’s. “I’m always nice to you, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Shoving my hands into your armpits is you being nice, then?” Obi-wan snorts, and his eyebrow somehow hitches further up on his forehead. “If only that were true, darling.”
Despite the cold, Anakin feels himself reddening at the pet name, and his rather compromised position underneath Obi-wan. Their faces are only about a foot away, which feels like inches to Anakin. If he propped an elbow up, he would be close enough to close the gap and kiss him.
Sensing the sudden shift in energy, Obi-wan stiffens, as if suddenly aware that he’s straddling Anakin’s bare stomach, alone, in a dim and freezing ship. He clears his throat and awkwardly climbs off Anakin, gathering the mess of blankets left in the wake of their skirmish. In a better light, Anakin would’ve been able to see the blush burning away at Obi-wan’s ears, practically melting them.
Anakin sits up, yanking his shirt back down. “Do you want to-”
“We should-” They speak at the same time, and Obi-wan stops, gesturing at Anakin. “You first.”
“No, you go.” Anakin can’t quite look him in the eye, and he focuses instead of wrapping himself in his blanket again.
Obi-wan makes an exasperated noise in the back of his throat. “Anakin.”
“Maybe, we should, I mean only if you want to,” Anakin fiddles with the corner of the fabric, “huddle for warmth?” It feels as ridiculous as it sounds, and Anakin regrets it as soon as he’s said it.
“Oh, so you can maneuver my face into your smelly armpit?” Obi-wan jests, his tone laced with mirth, and he reaches for his thermos, always finding calm within his tea.
“Hey!” Anakin’s mouth drops open. “I don’t smell.”
Obi-wan’s eyebrows jump once as he pops the lid off and takes a sip, shrugging. “Maybe not to you, my dear.”
Anakin, offended, pulls his knees to chest, resting his head on his kneecaps. “I was being serious,” he mumbles into the material of his pants. He’s freezing from being subjected to the cold air for so long, all of his body heated lingering in the air around them. “What were you going to say?” he asks.
Obi-wan makes a hm? noise as he lays down on his bedroll, and then says, “Oh, right. I was going to say we should try and get some sleep.”
Anakin half heartedly nods his head best he can against his legs. A shiver tears through him, and he hunches into himself, wishing they could turn the ship’s heaters on. As fun as their shenanigans had been, it left them both significantly colder than before. He reaches out to see if the radiant heater will go any higher. It won’t.
“Anakin,” Obi-wan says, softly. “Come here.”
Anakin is dubious. “Why?”
“You’re right. Body heat is probably our best option right now, given the circumstances.” Obi-wan unwraps his blankets and begins unzipping his thick jacket, holding the space open for Anakin. “Here, before I get cold.”
Anakin’s heart stutters in his chest.
He crawls over to Obi-wan’s bedroll and sheds his jacket, tucking himself into Obi-wan so that his back is flush with Obi-wan’s chest, Obi-wan’s breath hot on his ear. As Obi-wan snakes a cold hand to rest on his chest, Anakin pulls his jacket on backwards so that his arms stay warm, and spreads the blankets out on top of them evenly, best he can.
He feels...at home in Obi-wan’s arms, he thinks, and mentally kicks himself. Obi-wan is only doing this because of the impending frostbite if they don’t.
Silence settles over the pair, only the sounds of their slow breathing to keep them company.
“Do I really smell, master?” Anakin whispers into the dark.
Obi-wan snorts into his neck. “Always, dear one.” He pats Anakin’s chest to console him.
Anakin turns in place, lifting his arms above Obi-wan’s head, shoving his face into his armpit. “How about now?”
Needless to say, they sleep on separate bedrolls.
Anakin shivers with regret the rest of the night.

The Mechanic (Anakin/Reader)
Anakin Skywalker/Reader, Obi-Wan is also here
Word count: 1.8k
Warnings: Smut 18+, mechanical arm, Anakin is a little shit, dom/sub undertones, humiliation kink if you squint.
AFAB reader but gender-neutral pronouns MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“A… mechanic??”
“Yes, that’s what I am. A mechanic. The best in town. Isn’t it what you’re looking for?”
Obi-Wan scrunches his nose and turns to the poor clone trooper who had introduced you.
“Are you serious?” he asks in a whisper.
“Do you know how hard it is to find a biomechanics surgeon around here, General? That’s the best I could find.” the trooper seems really tired you notice.
Kenobi brings his hand on his chin, silently thinking for a few seconds.
“I guess they’ll do.”
---
And that’s how you’re recruited for a very special task. When you’re led to their temporary base just outside of town, you thought you were going to be asked to repair a secret-weapon, or some military speeder. Oh Maker were you wrong.
You’re pushed inside of a medical ship, and instead of a speeder, you find yourself face to face with another jedi. He’s sitting on a table, his jedi robe badly torned, already pushed down and bunched on his hips, leaving his muscular torso entirely bare. You would have noticed his perfectly drawn abs if you weren’t distracted by his right arm. From his elbow down, it is entirely made of gold and black metal, with armored panels mimicking the size of his other regular arm, complete with what look like delicate fingers. A mechno-arm. You’ve never seen one quite like it. It must cost a small fortune, and it is definitely custom. But it’s also definitely wrecked.
“So, you’re the biomechanics expert?”
“Mechanic. Just a mechanic. But I know a thing or two about cybernetics.”
“Great.” He says with a cynical tone before making a pause, eyeing you down shamelessly for a tad too long, as you cross your arms and raise an eyebrow at his poor manners. He smirks at your reaction, and cocks his chin up before continuing.
“Well, anyway, I’ll guide you, I know what’s going on with my arm, I just need a helping hand.”
He says that with a lot more confidence than what you would expect from someone his young age, almost condescending - but you can’t really be mad at him, considering the guy has the Force and looks like this. You would be insufferable as well.
Sometimes life is unfair, you think, too bad he chose to become a warrior monk, because you wouldn’t mind tinkering with more than his arm.
You take a deep breath, and just get on with it, starting to work on his prosthetic, following his instructions. Even if he hasn’t all the correct vocabulary, the man actually knows what’s wrong with his arm, and you’re a little bit annoyed at the fact he was right. You would have gladly taught him a lesson, making his cocksure smirk and patronizing tone go away just for a second. Nonetheless, you listen to what he explains, and after a while, you realize you’re just executing his directions without second guessing him, lulled by his warm voice, scrunched over his mechanical arm, your face just inches away from his very human skin.
After an hour, you’re done, and his fingers are back to life, the mechanism slightly buzzing while he lifts his hand to his face, watching with an honest smile as his movements resume. You’re watching as well, mesmerized by the way his metal fingers move with such great finesse. It’s almost surreal when you know the inhumane strength he could deploy thanks to the alloy ligaments, a deadly threat just lying under golden fingertips.
Your gaze switches to his face, and you allow yourself to stare a little. He’s young but the toll of war is already showing, the kindness of his eyes hidden behind a steely veil, a scar running way too close from his right eye. His hair is a mess, long light-brownish locks with a few blond strands. His innocence is long gone, replaced by a mix of fierce resolve and cocky attitude. He’s handsome, you won’t lie to yourself. And his toned body matches his pretty face. Even the mechanical arm adds to his charm. You’re sure some would be repulsed by it, but you’re definitely not. You can’t stop wondering what it’s like for him when he touches something, when he touches someone. And you can’t stop wondering what it’s like to be touched by those fingers, to feel the smooth golden steel on your skin. Would it be warm? Or cold?
You’re pulled out of your daydreaming by a cough. Anakin is now looking at you, and his knowing gaze is making you doubt if he’s reading your mind. There are many rumors about the powers jedi can have, and you suddenly blush at the realization he might actually be.
“Well, thanks, it works fine again.” he says with a falsely natural tone. “But I think I need to run just a few tests, you know, to make sure the sensation is back. Would you like to help me? I warn you, it can be a bit… overwhelming.” He says that as his mechanical hand grazes at your naked forearm, his self-confident grin back on his face, and you can’t miss the sexual undertone of his proposition. The feeling sends chills in your whole body, the metal of his fingertips is definitely cold — at least, for now. You’re a bit taken aback because you weren’t expecting advances from a literal monk, but at the same time you know you’re too curious and too horny already to pass down such an invitation.
“And how can I help?” you ask not so innocently.
“Glad you ask.” he answers, as he hops down from the table, an even bigger grin on his face.
You don’t have the time to realize what’s going on, but he lifts you up and slams you down on the table before climbing back on top of you, resting on his knees, arms caging you.
He hushes you when you want to protest against his manhandling, but you can’t deny the fact it’s turning you on even more. He watches your face intently as his mechanical hand is caressing your cheek, then shifting lower on your throat. He squeezes gently, just to see how you would react, and he’s pleased to hear you gasp at the tiniest of pressure. It’s making you dizzy, the knowledge he could literally crush you if he wanted to, and you’re being amazed at the control he shows instead.
His hand doesn’t stay there for long though, and goes even lower, shortly groping your breast before sliding further down until it stops at the waistband of your pants. He waits a second here, scanning you for any form of approval, before resuming when you thrust your hips slightly up against his palm, letting him know you’re looking for more.
He loses no time, snaking his hand under your pants and in your panties, cupping your cunt. The metal of his fingers is warmer now, thanks to your own body heat, but the feeling is still foreign although not unpleasant. He parts your folds, tracing a finger from your entrance to your clit, spreading your wetness there. The pitiful whine that escapes your lips as he starts circling the bundle of nerves makes him chuckle. He’s visibly enjoying the way you react under his touch.
The smooth steel of his golden fingertips feels like heaven against your sensitive parts, and you already know you won’t last long. He rises a bit, sitting on his heels so he can use his left arm to pin you down, real fingers made of flesh cruelly biting in your hips to keep you in place for what’s coming next.
He stops his ministrations and coats two of his metallic fingers in your juices before sinking them slowly inside of you. You stop breathing as you watch his fingers disappear between your legs with awe. You feel every ridges and bumps of the mechanical knuckles as they slide in and out of you, and when his thumb finds your clit again, you’re glad he’s actually pinning you down, because it’s suddenly too much to handle. Your back arches and your head slams down against the unforgivable steel of the medical table. In other circumstances, you would complain, but you just can’t find a good reason to care right now.
Anakin keeps on moving his fingers, relentlessly bringing you closer to the edge. Your whines are now moans, and he gives you a mean look, mouthing a “shut up”. You almost forgot you were in the middle of a military base, and that anyone could enter the room you were in at any time now. You clamp your hand on your mouth, trying desperately to keep quiet as the bastard is slowing his pace but increasing the pressure of his touch, crooking the fingers inside of you to rub against that perfect spot that makes you see stars. It’s a matter of seconds before you come with a muffled whimper, eyes closed, hips rising up from the table. He doesn’t stop until you push his hand away as the pleasure-pain of overstimulation settles in.
“It looks all good, thanks for helping.” he says with a cocky little smile, while you try to catch your breath. He wipes his mechanical arm on your pants, like it’s just a random rag, and you’re too shocked by the sheer audacity of the man to think of a retort.
You barely have the time to get back on your feet, that the door of the room is sliding open, revealing a visibly displeased Obi-Wan.
“You’ done yet?”
You open your mouth to answer but Anakin is quicker.
“Yes, Master. We were just making sure the repair is efficient.”
He says that with his usual grin and while looking the older jedi dead in the eye. You wonder how he managed to do that when some of his fingers still smell like you. You’re also jealous of the fact his crumpled robe is making a decent job at hiding his hard-on, while the wet patch on your pants where Anakin wiped his fingers is all too visible.
“It seems your hand is working perfectly again, Anakin.”
The tone of Obi-Wan's voice is half-amused, half-annoyed when he says that, his eyes on you, rather than on his padawan. You wonder if he knows what just happened, causing your face to grow hot under his suspicious gaze.
“Just ask the trooper outside for your payment” he adds bluntly, before asking Anakin to follow him for a briefing where they’re both needed.
As they exit the room, the younger jedi turns to you.
“I know I can count on you if I ever need more repairs. I’ll make sure to request you, personally.”
Your face is getting even more red as you mumble a good-bye to the two warriors.
The paycheck was generous, but honestly? You would be lying to yourself if you would not admit you’d do it all over again for free.

Title: and I told the world Summary: Padmé is pregnant, Anakin is the father,” Obi-Wan replied and held up his bottle of Serenno wine. Or, Obi-Wan and the realization that Anakin is going to be a father at an age Obi-Wan wasn't even a Knight. AN: More light fix-it verse! Tackling the anidala verse.
The Temple was eerily silent as Obi-Wan walked through its halls. Not many Jedi were on Coruscant right now and the number of nocturnal Jedi was even lower. He was thankful for the quiet, unsure how well he’d handle a conversation right now. Someone’s kind fussing would eventually lead to Obi-Wan needing to confront the fact that Anakin’s last steps into adulthood had been done on bloodied battlefields, far away from him.
He reached his destination without a single interruption and soon found himself knocking against a familiar door. Years ago, even before the war, he might have hesitated to act so boldly over an issue that wasn’t even truly one and could have waited until morning. Fortunately, Obi-Wan was a member of the Council and had learned that not one member of it kept regular hours. As expected, the door opened and Mace stood in its entrance, looking as put-together as on a Benduday afternoon. He blinked, equally non-plussed about Obi-Wan’s appearance, his expression just a bit questioning. Obi-Wan ought to be sleeping, he’d just gotten home from a rather gruesome campaign, but he hadn’t been able to fall asleep after getting Anakin’s hysteric call.
“Obi-Wan, what can I do for you?” Mace asked.
“Padmé is pregnant, Anakin is the father,” Obi-Wan replied and held up his bottle of Serenno wine. It was an expensive gift from Dooku to Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan had meant to open it or smash it so many times but never ended up deciding on either course of action.
Now he finally knew what to do with it.
Mace closed his eyes and Obi-Wan thought he could hear a curse pass his lips, then the older Master stepped aside and let Obi-Wan inside.
He’d been in Mace’s quarters often enough that they were familiar to him. Shelves with plants and books covered the walls. Many of them were on various meditation techniques from across the entire galaxy. In one corner, his contrabass was starting to collect dust from months of no usage. Obi-Wan’s thoughts returned to his own violin, resting in its case in the corner of his wardrobe. Despite the dust on the instrument, the wall covered by trinkets and gifts of Padawans and thankful people alike was as pristine as always.
Obi-Wan sat down at the living room table as Mace returned with two wine glasses. Obi-Wan poured their glasses full and emptied his in one go. It was a very dry red wine, bitter too. Qui-Gon would have disliked it; Obi-Wan hated it.
Still, it seemed appropriate for the given situation.
“So,” Mace said, wetting his lips. “Care to repeat that first statement again?”
“Anakin called me about three hours ago,” Obi-Wan started. “He was frazzled. I thought it was because of his mission, but instead I learn that the cause for his distress is the message he got from Padmé about ten minutes before he called me.”
“Which, I assume, was of her informing Anakin that she is pregnant.”
“Yes.”
It had been a short text message. Anakin had read it out to him thrice in varying degrees of emotional turmoil, from cheerful excitement to bone-chilling terror. From the way he spoke, it had been clear to Obi-Wan that Anakin’s first instinct, before even attempting to sort through his emotions on his own, had been to call Obi-Wan. While it warmed him to know that Anakin trusted him so much and sought his support, Obi-Wan could have done without needing to calm Anakin down when he was still so unsettled himself.
Mace sighed. “Is Senator Amidala going to visit the Temple Healers tomorrow then?”
“Today,” Obi-Wan corrected absentmindedly. It was already far past midnight and Obi-Wan liked to try to keep track of time. It didn’t necessarily make the days spent in the trenches easier, but it ensured he didn’t totally lose contact with reality and got lost in the war. “And no, she won’t. She is currently on Alderaan, visiting Queen Breha, and I don’t think Anakin told her to visit the Healers here after. I’ll tell him or message her directly, perhaps.”
The entire situation was surreal.
His Padawan was going to become a father.
At his age, Obi-Wan hadn’t even thought about teaching a Padawan someday, had three years still until Anakin would be sleeping curled up next to him.
“We have to provide an alibi,” Mace stated. “If the public catches wind of why Senator Amidala is visiting the Temple, the situation is bound to escalate beyond our control.”
And that was putting it nicely. Padmé and Anakin’s relationship was a bit of an open secret in the Temple and among Padmé’s guards, but the public could not be allowed to learn of it. Padmé’s integrity would be doubted, each and every decision the Order made regarding Naboo since the Trade Federation’s invasion would be questioned. The Centrist faction would demand that Padmé lose her seat in the Senate. The balance between the Jedi and the government was already fragile and complicated enough without a scandal of this size threatening to throw everything into discord.
It wasn’t even as if Anakin were unaware of the danger.
No, Master, we’re not going to do anything stupid.
Well, stupid just happened.
Obi-Wan massaged his temples, feeling the pressure behind his forehead build up. Either his migraine was returning at full force – not unsurprising in these circumstances – or he was due for a particularly unpleasant vision.
Or maybe it was just the alcohol.
“And if Padmé won’t leave the Senate, and we honestly can’t afford her to leave, Anakin will have to leave the Order. Keeping an affair under wraps is one thing, but a child?” That wasn’t going to end pretty.
“The war comes closer to its end with every passing day,” Mace said. “Senator Amidala is well-trained and everyone close enough to Anakin to know can keep their mouth shut for a few more months. How far along is the Senator?”
“Three months.”
Which left them with six to end the war and let Anakin and Padmé decide which path they’d take after. Obi-Wan emptied his glass once more.
Anakin would be a father in six months.
Kriff.
His horror must show on his face because Mace readily refilled his glass but kept his own empty. One of them should keep their wits about themselves and Obi-Wan certainly wasn’t going to be it.
“Do you want me to help you come up with excuses for the Senator, keep you from emptying this bottle on your own, or listen to you talk some more?” Mace asked after a long silence.
Obi-Wan was a good orator, he didn’t need any help spinning a story, and he could drink much more than just one bottle of wine before he truly needed someone to keep an eye on him.
“I don’t know the first thing about newborns,” Obi-Wan said, choosing the third option.
This was not the most conventional way for a lineage to grow, but theirs wasn’t exactly one to do things by the book necessarily. And, beyond wanting politics to stay out of their business, Obi-Wan wanted to be there for his family. Anakin had lived half in his mind for over a decade now. Even days’ travel away, shields locked tight, Obi-Wan could still feel the other half of his soul.
Regardless of what the parents-to-be chose, Anakin and Obi-Wan were still Jedi and their Order raised its children in a loving community. And if that could not happen in the Temple, Obi-Wan was sure that nobody would mind if he took a few years off once this blasted war ended.
Mace smiled. “Then I suggest you learn.”

As mentioned in this post, Obi-Wan is frequently seen hanging from various surfaces, one of those being Anakin during ROTS. @pandora15 brought up this reading of it:
I have to wonder if it’s a form of symbolism for Obi-Wan’s resolve to stay rooted in the Light, to not fall into the Darkness, even when hanging on/climbing back up would be really, really difficult.
With that in mind, I would like to do a close reading of the elevator shaft scene.
Tumblr media
Obi-Wan regains consciousness to find himself once again in a precarious position and does what he always does in such a situation - he grabs onto whatever will support him. Whatever will stop him from falling. In this case, that would be Anakin.
But let’s go back a few minutes. The elevator shaft is sideways, serving as a hallway. Anakin is running along that hallway, Obi-Wan unconscious on his back and Palpatine following behind. But what happens when the ship stabilizes?
...[Anakin] fell, skidding along the wall, free hand grabbing desperately at a loop of cable, catching it, hanging from it- And the turbolift doors opened. Inviting. Safe. And mockingly out of reach; a meter above his outstretched arm- And his other arm was the only thing holding Obi-Wan above a two-hundred-meter drop down which his lightsaber’s handgrip now clanked and clattered, fading toward infinity. For half a second Anakin was actually glad Obi-Wan was unconscious, because he wasn’t in the mood for another lecture about hanging on to his lightsaber right now, and that thought blew away and vanished because something had grabbed on to his leg- He looked down. It was Palpatine.
Tumblr media
The Chancellor hugged Anakin’s ankle with improbable strength, peering fearfully into the darkness below.“Anakin, do something! You have to do something!” I’m open to suggestions, he thought, but he said, “Don’t panic. Just hang on.” “I don’t think I can...” The Chancellor turned his anguished face upward imploringly. “Anakin, I’m slipping. Give me your hand - you have to give me your hand!” And drop Obi-Wan? Not in this millennium.
Tumblr media
Anakin is in a precarious position not unlike the ones Obi-Wan is in in the above linked post, supporting not only his own weight, but Obi-Wan’s and Palpatine’s as well. He is holding up the weight of three people with one hand, using the other to support an unconscious Obi-Wan and subsequently keep him from falling, keeping outwardly calm all the while and encouraging the others to do the same.
Palpatine doesn’t like this. (He doesn’t like that Anakin is using his free hand to support Obi-Wan and not him.) He clings to Anakin’s ankle not unlike a ball and chain and demands his hand to hold on to as well. This would cause Obi-Wan to slip and fall. Anakin recognizes this and refuses to let Obi-Wan go, continuing to support him as he regains consciousness.
Viewed through the symbolic lens above, Anakin is striving here not only to stay rooted in the light himself, but to keep Obi-Wan in the light as well. If he had taken Palpatine’s hand, it wouldn’t have dislodged him from the cables, but it would cause Obi-Wan to fall, and for that reason alone he doesn’t do it. He needs Obi-Wan in this scene arguably as much as Obi-Wan needs him. It doesn’t matter how much weight there is on his ankle or that the weight belongs to an important politician apparently afraid of heights who is his “friend,” he is holding up both of them.
The will not to drop Obi-Wan might even be part of why he’s able to do this - just like someone IRL could lift a car under the right circumstances, so too does the will not to drop Obi-Wan override Anakin’s inhibitions and allow him to support the weight of three people with one hand.
That’s fucking powerful.

19 BBY
Irele, her stepbrother Owen, and his now-wife Beru Lars live together in the same roof. After their father had died of natural causes, they placed him next to the grave of Shmi, as they deem it appropriate; they have taken full control of the homestead, though their ways didn’t change that much.
Now thirteen years old, Irele Skywalker had grown into the spitting image of Shmi Skywallker albeit younger. Medium length hair always secured as a ponytail with thin braids woven along the tail, warm and earthy-colored eyes, and a somber yet friendly smile.
The teenager had grown into an adventurous young spirit. Perhaps, if one is to see Shmi as a girl, she would have been the exact same as her daughter. Gaining friends in Anchorhead and even as far as Mos Eisley, though she had learned to steer clear of the latter town unless the need truly arises. Taking odd jobs in either of the towns, her hustler’s nature remained intact, she did not want to depend heavily on her brother and sister-in-law for monetary support—albeit Owen strongly disagrees, but to not avail.
“You’ve been out more often than staying at home!” chided Owen, who was now perhaps in his early thirties.
“Well, I do need to work, don’t I, big brother?” she tapped his bulky arm as she strolled into the house.
She had just returned from her work in the shop that’s a hybrid of a speeder vendor and a servicing center. Whether she realizes it or not, she always finds herself tinkering with something, fixing them… like her real brother’s pastime as a child.
Irele had taken home a piece of a machine to her house, a personal project of sorts, completely unrelated to her work. She settled herself on the small worktable in her bedroom and immediately casts her lamp’s light on the working space. A metal rod put together with various, mismatching shafts and components held together by screws and sewn leather wrappings; it’s even a miracle that it worked, one way or another, it would serve better as a melee weapon than that of a Magnaguard’s electro-staff. Perhaps this staff is one of the many testaments of Irele’s skillfulness and resourcefulness, for growing up as a hustler and being exposed to machinery at an early age.
As she grew, she always donned a woven scarf made by Shmi. It has been a few years or so, and the heartache is very much fresh; every time she catches a glimpse of her headstone, with Cliegg’s next to it, the healing wound is ripped open once again—though she found comfort in confiding and speaking to both of them as if they were still alive, sitting with her and listening.
“Oh, circuitry should be here. Mom would have pointed that out too.” she mumbled to herself as she fiddled the wires with the sharp end of a thin screwdriver.
Come the hour of sunset, Irele had finished her chores after her handicraft. In the middle of her working, she felt a presence—it was sage and calming—she also heard the grunting of a single eopie. Curious, she and Beru went to the door. She was right about the eopie, carrying a single rider who held the reins with only one hand and is carrying something with the other. Irele thought the hooded rider to be her brother, as she remembered his own cloak, but the cowl revealed a slightly older man—his jaw was covered with a full, sandy-brown beard, his eyes were kind and yet she hinted the sadness in them, as if tragedy had befell him shortly before coming here.
It was Obi-Wan.
When the stranger coaxed the animal to kneel, he carefully hopped down, and supported his precious cargo with his free arm. He approaches the older girl and she willingly takes what he gave. The wide sleeve of his robe gave way to show an infant boy, perhaps a few weeks old. Beru and Irele’s eyes lit up, they spoke nothing to the stranger but they bid him with a short, polite bow.
Obi-Wan noticed the second girl, her olive skin and brown eyes gave him a memory of Anakin—the reminder sharply jabbed him into the recesses of his mind. The angry voices, the echoes of the sputtering lava, and the sorrowful howling of Anakin drummed behind his ears.
“Are you alright, sir?” Irele noticed.
“Oh, dear. I am fine, thank you,” he cleared his throat and tucked his arms inside his sleeves. “I am just not used to travel here in this place… but I will be.”
“I see.”
“My dear, may I know your name?”
“It is Irele…”
“Irele…?”
“Irele Skywalker-Lars.”
Obi-Wan slowly angled his head upwards, concealing his surprise as her name sinks into him.
Another Skywalker?
“Well, Irele,” he cleared his throat again. “May I ask a favor from you?”
“I’ll do my best to fulfill it.”
“I’m sure you can,” Obi-Wan’s gaze went to Beru carrying the baby who joined her husband, Owen, looking at the binary sunset. “Take care of him.”
“I don’t mean to sound uptight but… Who is he to me?”
“He’s your family. Your nephew. His name is Luke.”
Irele was a smart girl. She knew whose son the infant would have belonged to. A part of her wanted to ask where the father is—her brother—but perhaps it was for the best that she does not obligate the stranger to indulge her questions.
“Then I’ll do everything in my power to keep him safe.”
“I know, Irele,” Kenobi smiled, although a little sadly. “I know.”
“Sir, I’m sorry but I don’t know your name.”
“Ben… Ben Kenobi.”
Kenobi did not stay long in the premises of the homestead. He bowed to Irele, who returned the gesture, and returned to his steed. The eopie grunted as Kenobi hauled the reins to the right side, then spurred the tall quadruped to the distance, clouds of sand puffing under its hooves until the figure disappears as the twin suns set.
When Kenobi was gone from her sight, she turned to her brother and sister-in-law, along with their nephew—whom Owen would have probably called his son, given the chance. Irele was excited. She was already thinking of the things she and Luke would do—what games they’d play, what machines she’d teach him to fix, what kind of speeders could they hop on together.
He was the brother she never had.
From a certain point of view, it’s a wrong that she could right, while fulfilling her promise to Kenobi.
After Beru nursed the infant, she laid him down on their bed, Irele never left Luke’s side. She chuckled every time he would squirm, coo, and smile at her. Her heart fluttered and she fell in love with him. When Beru left the two children alone, Irele tasked herself to watch over him.
She moved her finger to his tiny hand and with his tiny, soft fingers he clasped her thumb with a grip as light as a feather. Irele’s heart melted once more.
And then she whispered as she kissed the tiniest hand that held hers, “I’ll keep you safe, Luke. I’ll always protect you.”

Anakin and his 501st regiment are on their way to meet up with Obi-Wan and his fleet to help protect a planet that’s about to be attacked by the droid army. Anakin begins to feel something in the Force, that leads him to finding something he thought was long lost.

There was a disturbance in the Force.
It felt like a cry for help, it felt like a desperate clawing at a life that is fading. But one thing that Anakin Skywalker knew was that he heard his name being called for.
It happened in the dark moments of the night, the stars laid out around the cruise ship he commanded, somewhere near the Outer Rim. He had just managed to fall asleep, but the voice still rang in his ears.
Anakin-
He had stirred awake, his eyes staring into the darkness of his small cabin, and he sat upwards, the blanket he had over his torso falling into his lap. He was confused, but he knew, he knew, he had heard the voice, felt it in his soul. He had tried to meditate to reconnect with that voice, that feeling, but he couldn’t find it again.
He was scheduled to meet up with Obi-Wan the following day to continue on a joint mission to an Outer Rim planet that the Separatists were attempting to invade. There was a large colony, an ally of the Republic, that was facing imminent attack by the droid army, and Obi-Wan and him were being sent to protect the people, along with the 501st squadron.
Obi-Wan stood alongside Anakin as they were being briefed on the mission at hand, but all Anakin could think about was speaking with his master about what he had felt, and if maybe he felt it too. He wasn’t paying much attention as Captain Rex went over the information they had on the colony, the man who was their elected ruler, the terrain, everything Rex had said went in one ear and out the other. Not that Anakin would ever admit that to anyone.
Finally, Obi-Wan had motioned for his padawan to follow him to their ships to leave to the planet below. Anakin’s strides matched his, and Obi-Wan was the first to speak.
“Is something troubling you?”
Anakin shook his head, “I was hoping to speak with you about something I had felt last night, there was a disturbance in the Force, I felt.. Like something, or someone, was calling for help.”
“Yes,” Obi-Wan replied, “I felt it too.”
“I had never felt something that strong,” Anakin continued, “it felt.. close. And I could’ve sworn I heard my name as well.”
“Hm,” Obi-Wan paused, as the two men waited for a lift to arrive, he stroked his beard, “I can’t say I felt that presence.”
The turbo lift had arrived and opened for them to enter. When they did it proceeded to close, and whisk them towards their ship bay.
“But I know it,” Anakin said, “someone called for me.”
The lift opened, and Anakin took a step out, and Obi-Wan followed, “You may be right, but Anakin,” he paused and Anakin looked behind him at his Master, who held a stern gaze, “please be alert on this mission, I fear we are closer to the source than anticipated.”
“Yes, Master.” Anakin answered. The two men nodded their farewells and went their separate ways - Anakin to his ship and Obi-Wan to his. Both ships were to lead a handful of Clone ships down to the surface, and to begin setting up a defense against the anticipated attack. Anakin neared his ship and nodded towards the Clones he passed on the way, and set his hands on ship, his pal R2-D2 whirled around to face him in the droid slot.
“You ready R2?” He asked, climbing into the small cockpit, and settled in for the relatively short trip down. R2 chirped happily at him, and he smiled, flipping a few switches and the engine of the aircraft coming to life. The clear top slid closed as Anakin put a lightweight headset on, and he readied his ship to lift from the ground.
“Try not to fly too hastily,” Obi-Wan’s voice rang in his ears, and Anakin just grinned.
“Can’t promise you that Master.”
The sunlight was prominent through the sparse trees that lined the ground of the city. Mostly a rocky terrain, absolutely not to be confused with Geonosis he’d say, there was a bountiful piece of land the city resided on that was home to a trickle of a river, and a few trees that stood gorgeously large in the middle of the city. The hot planet was otherwise rather calm and cool here, the old natives would say this was because of the fact it was a holy place, but he chalked it up to just being one of the planets characteristics. He was standing in front of his humbly appointed advisors, each who had their eyes locked to the ground, and watched as the Republic vessels landed before him.
How lucky for him to be the host of two Jedi and the famous 501st regime. What an honor!
He cared deeply about honor.
He watched for a moment as the two Jedi hopped out their respective ships, and the large carriers opened to reveal dozens of clone troopers. He smiled at the two gentleman who began to make their way over, and he moved to meet them halfway.
“Master Kenobi and Master Skywalker,” he greeted, clasping his hands together and bowing his head slightly, “it is the highest honor to meet you, even under the dire circumstances.”
“Governor Shuule, thank you for offering to meet with us,” Obi-Wan greeted, his padawan quiet as he observed the surroundings.
“Of course, once we were paid a visit by Count Dooku, I had to alert the Republic immediately,” he nodded as he spoke, “my highest concern is the safety of my people.”
“As is ours,” Obi-Wan replied, and the governor motioned for the two men to follow him into the polished government building.
The words leaving Governor Shuule’s mouth seemed lined with honey, sweet and silky but sticky. He spoke about how the residents of this “fine city” were those who fled their worlds seeking a safe place to call home, and every person they passed by offered a smile - yet they didn’t feel genuine.
There was a disturbance in the Force.
Anakin could still feel it! It kept him on edge, and he allowed his Master to do a majority of the speaking. His mind, on the other hand, wondered, trying to make sense of this feeling-
-that’s how most of the day had passed without him even realizing. The Governor was offering them a chance to clean up before dinner was served. But of course we’ve already sent some food for your troops, he said as they were leaving the room. Anakin let out a pent up sigh, and Obi-Wan chuckled.
“I have never seen you so pensive, Anakin.”
“I’m sorry Master,” he replied and the two began to walk down the corridor towards the exit to outside, there, Rex and Fives were standing with a couple others, discussing something, “but honestly this place gives me the chills.”
“It feels too perfect,” Obi-Wan replied, earning a nod of the head from his Padawan, and as they neared the clones, all but Rex and Fives went off to their posts, and the two remaining clones stood a little straighter, holding their helmets on their hips and ready to give their reports.
“Sir, the outside wall has been secured and set with troops around the perimeter, keeping watch for the night. Most of the civilians have been accounted-“
“Most?” Anakin interjected, receiving a nod from Fives.
“Yes sir, there’s about 3 dozen unaccounted for.”
“That’s far too many,” Obi-Wan replied, there was a happy holler from down which they came. Looking over their shoulders the Governor was waving to them from near the room they came, dinner must have been ready. The two Jedi glanced at one another, almost like reading one another’s mind, and Obi-Wan nodded, leaving Anakin alone with his troops.
“I want you two to search this place, top to bottom,” he ordered, talking lowly for only them to hear, “something feels off, and I want to know what that is. Especially with that many people just unaccounted for.”
“Yes sir,” the two clones said in almost perfect unison, and Anakin nodded, following his Masters footsteps to join the Governor and a few others for a meal.
-
The sun had set a while ago, the grounds were dark all along the buildings, some lights illuminating the small residential buildings, others turned off as the two clone troopers walked down the road. The city was like a large circle, making it a bit easier to know where they were going. Both men were chatting as they walked alongside one another, glancing in either direction for anything they hadn’t yet noticed.
“It’s getting late,” Fives commented at one point as they were about to round the corner back towards the front of the largest building, the center of it all, that housed the Governor.
“You heard Commander Skywalker, search top to bottom.”
“Yeah,” Fives scoffed, “search top to bottom of what? Dirt?”
Rex stopped and faced the other clone, tapping his friend on the arm, “We do what we were told, take a look again and see if we missed anything.”
“Alright alright, fine,” the other replied, and they both faced the front of the city, but Rex shoved his arm forward for his friend to stop, giving a quiet stop order, and Fives followed his gaze.
In the distance, they saw Governor Shuule exiting one of the resident buildings, glancing around for anyone who was watching. The two clones quickly stepped around the corner of the nearest building to hide in the shadows, kneeling to the ground to stay as quiet as possible. Rex quickly turned his helmet light off and peered around the corner once again.
Governor Shuule quickly moved around the corner of the door, shutting it tightly behind him and seeming to release a pent up breath. His body relaxed for a moment before straightening and spinning around to face the entrance of his own palace (although he wouldn’t call it that, it was a “home to many”).
Rex’s stomach dropped for a moment, watching the man almost float back inside, carrying himself with as much pride as Dooku did.
“What was that about?” Fives finally spoke, and Rex looked back at him.
“No idea. Wanna find out?”
“Don’t even need to ask,” Fives replied, and both clones carefully made their way to the dark home the Governor had just left.
It was a normal cottage, well as normal as the other ones had looked at least. The outer wall was made of rock, keeping with the design of the tall mountains found nearby, with a metal door and normal windows. Not suspicious at all, unless someone is sneaking out of it of course. Of course, it was locked by a hand scanner, but Rex scoffed.
“Easy,” he mumbled, pulling something from his utility belt and dusting it onto the panel. It was silent for a few moments before beeping happily, and the metal door slid open. Both clones stepped carefully inside, and activated the lights on their helmets once again.
The outside of the building made it look as if there was a large room you were entering into, but that wasn’t the case. The clones stood on a small landing, but the ground beneath them descended down into a dark pit, stairs seeming to twist around a corner. Rex took the lead, taking quiet steps down the stairs, Fives just a few steps behind.
“What do you think he is keeping down here?” Fives questioned, earning a shrug from his companion.
“Something he doesn’t want us to know about,” Rex offered.
The stairs seemed to just keep spiraling, leading the two men deeper and deeper into the ground. The rocky texture was similar to the rest of the planet, with a hung light every once in awhile. How anyone could see down here without proper light, they didn’t know. The deeper they went, there were noises that seemed to resonate louder with each step.
Rex lifted his hand and stopped walking, Fives halting his movements and glancing down, “What is it?”
“There’s an opening,” Rex replied, motioning to the few steps left that were brightly lit, indicating an opening that had some source of light in it. The noise they could make out clearly now sounded like chatter around a room, “Proceed with caution, we don’t know what we’re about to walk into.”
“Yes, sir,” Fives replied, and the two made their final steps down, not prepared for what they were about to see.
The room was a large cave, littered with what they could imagine were the 30 missing souls. There were so many different species, and as they stepped down into the opening, in awe, a group off to the side turned around.
“What the-“
“Clones! We’re saved!”
“They’ve found us!”
Voices began to radiate in the rocky cavern, and with a glance between the two, Rex and Fives took a couple steps forward towards the group that was approaching them. A Twilek, a couple humans, and a Quarren stood in front of them.
“What is going on here?” Rex questioned.
“Shuule has imprisoned us down here,” the Quarren replied, his voice hoarse, “many of us are sick, in desperate need of medical attention.”
“How many of you are there?” Fives asked next.
“Thirty in total,” the Twilek spoke next, her eyes were dark and droopy, “about a dozen are sick, we haven’t eaten in days.”
Fives looked to Rex, who glanced only for a moment at him, “Why would Shuule hide his own people down here with no food?”
“His people..” a human voice managed from the back, causing the Twilek and Quarren to move out of the way. Behind them stood a human female, whose face looked hollow around the cheeks, and skin that had hints of purple like they were freezing. Definitely the worst of the crowd, they were being helped stood up by another on their side.
“Shuule has made his mark in this world by.. by stealing people from their homes.. families,” their voice shook with each word, and as they spoke the crowd only seemed to grow, “and bringing them here to be his slaves.”
Slaves.
Anakin hated slave owners. It made his skin crawl and blood boil when Rex told him over their comm links. Obi-Wan and Anakin had excused themselves when their commas blinked green, indicating a message coming in. Obi-Wan quickly turned to his Padawan, who he had to grasp onto.
“Anakin-“
“That dirty, no good lying son of a-“
“Anakin!” Obi-Wan’s voice was more forceful this time, making his Padawan stop, breathing heavily with his fists clenched, “We cannot make a hasty judgement right now, we don’t know what Shuule is capable of.”
“Oh I can tell you what he’s capable of that disgusting-“
“Our best course of action,” he interrupted, “is to have Rex and Fives evacuate those who are locked away, get them to a medical ship and then the rest to safety. Return them to their homes if we can.”
Anakin shook his head, finally letting out a more calmed tone of voice, “You’re right, Master. We‘ll distract him, and have the men evacuate those people.”
-
Looking at the same rocky walls everyday was torture in a new way. And you had been a slave on Tatooine until you were of age and your parents debts were paid off. Needless to say, these orange rocks made you feel crazier then the hot sand of your early life.
You were the first to revolt against Shuule. You had earned you freedom from Tatooine and he stole that from you the day before you were set to leave that desert planet. You were tired of having to wait hand and foot on a man you had hoped to just perish one day.
It’s what he deserved for everything he had done, to everyone here.
You said no to his orders, stunning him and others. He turned around so quickly with his hand fiercely against your face. It had stung, but you didn’t back down.
You said no.
He promptly locked you down here. It was a shock that he had it ready for a situation like this but you weren’t surprised, he was capable of the dirtiest and lowest of things. The first two nights you curled into a ball against this stupid rock and didn’t sleep much.
He visited you two days later, carrying food and water on a silver platter and kneeling in front of you. He had honey eyes and a somber look on his face, offering your sad soul the water first. You took it. That was your mistake. He let you finish everything, really you had inhaled it but there was no difference, with a smug grin. That was when he told you.
“You chose this ending my love.. but don’t worry, the poison should work soon enough.”
You were dying. That bastard poisoned you, and almost everyone else who came down here. You had tried to warn them not to eat the food, and some had listened, but the call of hunger was too strong for some. It had only been a few days, most surviving off just water but we all knew that wouldn’t be able to last forever.
“What are we going to do?” your Quarren friend asked. There was a group of you, the first ones who had been down here, that were looked to as leaders. The ones who wanted to revolt in the first place. Ultimately, the ones who caused this mess.
“Someone will come. Someone will find us,” you managed, your voice weak and you rested your back against another’s.
“How do you know that?”
“I have hope,” you smiled.
Then here they were. The clones now identified as Commander Rex and Fives. They walked around, scanning everyone and counting each head. As soldiers do. When they came to you, Fives was the one to speak to you first.
“What’s your name?”
“(Y/N),” you managed. Your group of friends surrounded you, letting you rest against the rocky wall, your arms laid in your lap and your eyes tired. They looked at you with pity.
You hated that.
“And your last name?” Rex had asked.
You shook your head, “Don’t-“ you closed your eyes, your breath hitching in your throat.
“It’s okay,” Fives places his heavy hand over yours, “we’re going to help you. I promise.”
You nodded, opening your eyes to meet the face of the two men before you, “I know.. I knew you would come.”
“You did,” Rex more so said then asked.
You offered a weak smile, “Maybe not you two specifically.. but I knew someone would. Better now than later.”
“Was that a joke?” Gives asked you, earning a nod from you in response. They chuckled for a moment, before there was a sudden shake in the ground.
“That can’t be good,” Fives commented, both of them standing and placing their helmets on.
“Go up and see what the devil is going on,” Rex commanded. Fives responded with a yes sir and hurried back up the stairs. Others in the cave began to chatter, and your friends all knelt down to help you up.
You felt you didn’t have much longer, but maybe if you could just manage up those stairs-
Rex stood and put his helmet back on, and Fives was scurrying back down, “Sir! The door is blocked. The droids have attacked the city, General Kenobi has sent some of the others to secure the rest of the people, but we cannot get out the way we came.”
Those nearby began to talk louder, what were they to do now? Rex looked all around, before noticing in the distance what seemed to be an opening, maybe a way out. He pointed where the cave opened to darkness.
“Where does that lead?” He asked.
“That.. It shouldn’t go anywhere.” One of your friends answered.
“Well we need to try,” Rex said, “we have to try and get out of here, and survive. It’s our best bet.”
You nodded in agreement, struggling to hold yourself up even with the help of others. They were weak as well, but Captain Rex and Fives were quick to hold you upright. They motioned for your friends to let them help you, and they obliged.
“Thank you,” you said to them both.
“We wouldn’t dream of leaving you behind,” Fives commented, earning a small laugh from you. That made him smile beneath his helmet, all while Rex shook his head. Not the time or place, he thought.
People hurried down the dark cave opening, it was almost like a perfectly made hallway. Where did it go? No one knew. The only lights guiding them were produced from the helmets of the clone troopers. It felt like you were walking forever, but maybe that was just because your strength was leaving your body. A couple times the men had to almost lift you enough that your feet glided across the ground.
You told yourself you would not die on this planet.
The crowd seemed to come to a stop, the people in front of you becoming more and more vocal. Rex and Fives, while carrying you at this point, had to push their way through the crowd.
Your stomach dropped at the sight, maybe even theirs as well. The cave did come to a large opening.
But it was completely blocked by boulders. Something must have caved in. Needless to say, you were trapped. Some people began to weep. The ground still occasionally shook as a battle raged up top, some words filtered through your mind.
We’re trapped!
I can’t go back, my legs are too weak.
I just want to go home.
“Put me down,” you mustered, earning a glance from Rex, “please just put me down.”
They set you back down enough to where your feet touched the ground, your legs wobbled a bit under the pressure, but you released your arms that were hung around each clones shoulders. You took a step forward, and those around you parted slightly.
“(Y/N)-“ a voice said, you’re not too sure who said it, not in that moment.
“I’m not dying like this,” you said, pausing only for a moment as the rest of the people in front of you, “we are not dying like this. Not here, not in this place,” you were finally in front of everyone gazing at the rocks in front of you, “I had hope and I could feel someone would come and find us, and I’m not giving that hope up.”
You had never done this before. Not really. It was only ever just a feeling that you would follow. You took a breath and with closed eyes, you just focused on that feeling. You didn’t know what you were doing, but the silence you had once heard filled your ears in a tone that felt like you were fading yourself.
But then your skin felt warm.
Your eyes fluttered open only for a moment, and the rocks that were once in front of you were know gone, seemingly placed somewhere else in the canyon that was now opened to you. Those around you hurried past you, but your legs buckled from below you.
Rex was the one who caught you before you hit the ground, your eyes closed tightly and skin cool to the touch. What he had just witnessed was something he believed only a Jedi could do. The com on his wrist blinked green, Fives was busy keeping everyone together, and checking on those who had to lower themselves to the ground to sit.
“Captain Rex, please come in,” the voice called. He could recognize it as General Skywalker any day, he knelt down as he held you in his free arm.
“Sir, we’ve managed to get out the cave, but-“
“That’s great, we’re sending a medical transport to your location now.”
“Yes sir,” Rex replies into the com, “but General-“
“We can discuss it when we return to the ship, but right now we need to focus on getting everyone to safety, and Shuule in for his conviction.”
“Yes, sir,” he replied, focusing down at your nearly lifeless body.
-
How did you get here?
When your eyes finally reopened you were in a bed, a blanket over top your body, and the room was large, fitting multiple people in a row on each of your sides. Your head fell to the side as you tried to find something of familiarity, only seeing a medical droid a few beds down, along with the clone you had come to know as Fives. He glanced up at just the right moment, saying something to the droid, before making his way over.
“How’re we feeling?” he asked you. Your head rolled back so you were looking straight at the ceiling, the medical droid coming over to read your vitals.
“I feel.. Good. Better than before,” you answered, earning a nod and small smile.
“I’ve been tasked with trying to locate everybody’s home worlds, and finding them a way back to their families, so can you tell me-”
“I don’t have a home,” you cut him off, your eyes were locked with his but he diverted them away from yours. He cleared his throat, and moved out the way as the medical droid asked you if he could sit you upright. You nodded, pushing yourself up on your elbows as it adjusted your pillows, and helped you slide backwards into a sitting position.
“Where were you hoping to go then?”
You thought about it for a moment, “I don’t really know.. When I was freed I had bought passage on the next ship out, I didn’t care where. I was going to look for someone.”
“And who was that?” he asked you.
Anakin was walking alongside his Master towards the bay they had converted into a place to house the refugees. The two were engrossed in a conversation, being followed by Rex behind them. They were heading to follow up with Fives about what he has documented so far. Anakin had to postpone his debriefing with Captain Rex for the moment as they awaited new orders about getting these people back to their homes.
Obi-Wan had told Anakin he was proud of him and how he handled Shuule, and not letting his anger dictate his actions. Anakin nodded, but he was still disgusted with the whole ordeal. He had yet to completely process the last 24 hours, especially with his lack of sleep, but he did feel more at ease.
The Force felt oddly calm.
The doors to the bay opened for the three man group, and they entered still having a casual discussion.
“The Council will have to act fast in this regard,” Obi-Wan was commenting. Anakin nodded, and they neared where Fives stood, “they may decide to send smaller vessels, avoid any kind of detection-”
“Ani?”
Anakin paused. No one besides Padme called him Ani, but it certainly was not her voice that quietly filled the room. It was uncertain, laced with a sweetness he hadn’t heard in awhile. Everyone was watching, and Anakin’s body faced the source of the voice. His mouth parted slightly in confusion, processing what was in front of him.
“(Y/N)?”

Kenobi Script
Heavy panting and clanking of soldier’s footsteps.
J-Cut:
Camera on white armor-clad feet, running.
Scale up on bodies with blasters against a tan backdrop.
A voice accompanies the scene as we continue to pan through a series of shots of the soldiers running through indistinguishable sand buildings.
A few splashes of color pop from signs and banisters, resembling a street chase.
Voice (V.O.)
Hiding. That is what my days are like. Alone, perhaps to die, although I hope not. I can’t. The galaxy rests on my shoulders now, even though I’m not certain it always hasn’t. I meditate just to find myself broken inside, shards of memories finding their way to the surface, and my mind strays to fix the past- although my body has long since left the scene of who I once was. Now, I no longer reside on the front lines. No, I am refined to watch as the glorious Republic that used to be deteriorates around me. All that’s left of who I am- or who I was- are the sparks I can feel across the galaxy, dimming out quickly. And I can still feel their pain, too.
A brief pause as some action occurs on screen. Pan up to reveal dead end and a cloaked figure, chased by Stormtroopers.
We see the figure draw a GREEN LIGHTSABER, ready to defend themselves.
Their face is in a fierce snarl, all calculated focus. And for a minute, the Stormtroopers hesitate.
Suddenly, the JEDI is lifted off the ground, choking.
Pan down to ground as a dark silhouette approaches, and a RED GLOW ignites, a hum the only noise we hear.
J-Cut:
To black.
Voice (V.O.)
But however misshapen I may be, however hidden away I am, I cannot reverse my instincts- my purpose. I can hear it whispered to me through the Force, a tug in my spirit. Warrior. Fighter. And even though I go by a different name, it still finds ways to remind me of who I was- who I still wish to be.
Smash Cut:
On intense grey-blue eyes, opening as the camera focuses.
Voice (V.O.)
And it tells me I am still Obi-Wan Kenobi.
A beat begins to crescendo in the background as we cut away
EXT. TATOOINE- SUNSET
Soft hues melt into the horizon as Tatooine’s suns finish setting. We can see the shadow of a figure riding a measly mount in the distance, sand softly moving across the dunes.
Cut to a closer up of Obi-Wan, holding a pair of ELECTROBINOCULARS up.
We see into the green-tinted view, revealing THE LARS HOMESTEAD. We can see a soft light emanating from entryway, but nothing else.
Cut back on Obi-Wan, taking the Electrobinoculars away from his face and looking thoughtful and frustrated.
Obi-Wan
Well, Rooh, this whole surveillance business would be a lot easier if I could see anything.
He pats the eopie’s side gently.
Obi-Wan
(Sighs) I’ll just remember to get here earlier next time, then.
He closes his eyes briefly and we see the wind blowing his hair gently, the breeze picking up around him. Soft drums in the background.
Obi-Wan
(Opening his eyes) I sense nothing of danger here. Some sand people to the north, maybe. But they’re not likely to come anywhere around here, at least not after last time.
He leads the eopie away from the homestead and pulls his cloak tighter around himself.
Comp. as night begins to fall upon the desert, Obi-Wan riding silently across the dunes.
Creature noises echo across the empty desert, and we see how truly alone Obi-Wan is out here.
Focus on Obi-Wan’s lightsaber as it clinks against his hip, silver and heavy.
Obi-Wan stops Rooh abruptly, pulling back on the reins, suddenly alert.
Obi-Wan (Whispered)
Easy girl, shh.
He squints at the distance, hand shifted to his belt where his lightsaber rests. A small shadow approaches over the dune and out of the darkness, silently.
Obi-Wan remains quiet and calculated, trying to gauge if whatever it is is a threat.
An ominous beat strikes up in the background.
We see a young Luke Skywalker, no older than six, approaching.
Zoom as Obi-Wan’s eyes widen in surprise.
Obi-Wan (Startled)
Luke!
The young boy gazes up at the older man, shuffling nervously with wide blue eyes.
He’s wearing simple, layered clothing and goggles that sit awkwardly upon his blond, ruffled hair. He has on a small orange and blue poncho, knitted and a bit large.
Luke
Do I know you?
Obi-Wan
Well no, not really. But I do know your parents. What in the blazes are you doing all the way out here?
Luke (suspicious)
Why do you wanna know?
Obi-Wan
Because you’re a young boy out in the desert alone, at night!
Luke
Why are you out here alone at night?
Obi-Wan’s gaze hardens sternly at the boy. He’s not playing games.
Luke (crossing his arms, indignant)
Well, they’re not my parents, they’re my aunt and uncle, and I’m not alone.
Obi-Wan raises an eyebrow and tries to squint into the distance.
Obi-Wan
Who are you with, then?
Luke
Well… I was with my droid, but then I got lost and- well, I guess now I am alone.
His shoulders slump and his hands fall to his side as he yawns.
Obi-Wan looks at him with worried sympathy, his own face tired.
Obi-Wan (hastily)
Well, we best get back to your home then, your aunt and uncle must be worried sick.
He leans down to help Luke up, but Luke pulls away, pleading.
Luke
Wait, we have to go back for E6-97!
Obi-Wan (confused)
E6-9…
He realizes what Luke means, and we can tell he’s reminded of Anakin here. His gaze turns sad and dark. Of course, his expression seems to say, always with the droids.
Obi-Wan
No, no, there isn’t any time. It’s much more important that you get home now, and then perhaps you can look for your droid in the morning.
Luke takes another step back, stubborn.
Luke
I can’t! E6 is my best friend! I don’t wanna leave him out here to be destroyed in the sand, or scavenged by the Jawas!
Luke bites his lip worriedly. Obi-Wan can see that there’s no changing the boy’s mind, but he tries again with more force.
Obi-Wan
Luke, no droid is as important as a person. And right now, we need to get you back home. Like you said, it’s dangerous out here and-
He’s cut off by Luke, tears welling in his eyes.
Luke
How could you say that? E6 is just as much a person as anyone else! I won him myself, at Bestine in a dice match! I’ve had him forever now, and I can’t afford to lose him. He helps me and Uncle Owen run the farm, he tells us the weather and everything! Please, please, please, you’ve got to help me. If I lose him, I don’t think my uncle’ll buy me a new one.
Obi-Wan sighs, looking away.
Obi-Wan (softly to himself, cracking a smile)
I’ll bet that droid has a lot to report on the weather here.
Luke (crossing his arms again)
He does. He tells us when a sandstorm is coming. And if you don’t help me, then I’ll run away.
Obi-Wan frowns and turns back to Luke, finally nodding.
Obi-Wan
Alright, since the last thing I want is to be on a wild goose chase while you run yourself into Sarlacc pits. But only on one condition.
Luke (hopeful)
What?
Obi-Wan
You can never, under any circumstances, come out here again without supervision, understand?
Luke nods vigorously, excited.
Luke
Okay!
Obi-Wan
Very well.
He hoists Luke up onto Rooh, who grunts under the added weight. He grabs hold of the reins and makes sure Luke is secure in front of him.
Obi-Wan
Now, which way did you go?
EXT. DESERT- NIGHT
Focus on Obi-Wan and Luke, riding together in silence as Obi-Wan picks up his Electrobinoculars every now and again, searching for Luke’s droid.
Obi-Wan (putting down his binoculars)
Why were you out here in the first place, young one?
Luke (sighing)
I got mad at my Uncle, so I said I was going to run away. He said fine, and that I should take my useless droid with me. That I should leave just like my father before he died.
Focus on Obi-Wan’s pained expression here.
Luke (cont’d)
So I started to, but then my Aunt Beru told me that my Uncle was just being ridiculous, and that he would never want me to leave. So I decided not to go, after all. But then when everyone was about to go to sleep, I decided I would get out and explore a little. And maybe if I found some place better, I would stay there.
A brief pause as Obi-Wan furrows his brow, concerned.
Obi-Wan
Does your uncle not treat you well?
Another brief pause.
Luke (thoughtfully)
No, he does. Treat me well, I mean. My Aunt says that he really just wants to protect me. But he just doesn’t understand that I want some excitement every once in a while, ya know?
Obi-Wan gazes thoughtfully up at the stars, pan out for full sky view. Thousands of twinkling lights are scattered about in the dark, vast emptiness.
He knows, perhaps better than anyone what that feels like. But he also knows the consequences better than anyone, too.
Obi-Wan
Maybe your uncle has a point.
Luke (surprised)
What?
Obi-Wan
Someone I cared about once craved the same thing you do. Change, excitement.
He says the words as dryly as he can, trying to convince Luke that he believes what he’s talking about, that he is immune to the pull of adventure. His tone is sad, remorseful as he pulls his gaze back down and nudges Rooh forwards again.
Obi-Wan (Cont’d)
So he kept craving more and more. He danced with danger.
A fire ignites in Obi-Wan’s sad eyes, memories you could almost touch.
Obi-Wan (saddening)
But then, it was easy for him to believe in the next adventure, and he forgot all about the real reason he was there in the first place.
Luke looks back at Obi-Wan, curious.
Luke
Why?
Obi-Wan
Because he was different than most people. He needed to be somewhere with people who understood him. But the more time he spent venturing further, the more people he found. And some convinced him that he wasn’t where he needed to be, even though he was. He left his place.
Luke
What happened to him then?
Obi-Wan (softly)
I had to leave him, too.
Luke (disappointed)
Oh, that’s sad.
Obi-Wan nods and lifts his Electrobinoculars up again, hiding his expression.
Obi-Wan
A little adventure goes along way, Luke. But if your spirit leads you somewhere, follow it. Just remember who you are and try not to stray off your path.
Luke nods, serious.
Obi-Wan looks back and smiles weakly.
Obi-Wan
I think I’ve found your droid.
Luke (perking up)
Really? Wizard! Lemme see!
Obi-Wan hands Luke the Electrobinoculars and guides his direction, until we transition into Luke’s POV.
Back in the green-tinted view we see a SMALL, SEMI-CIRCLE DROID whirring across the top of a nearby ridge.
Focus back on Luke, grinning from ear to ear.
Obi-Wan
Is that it?
Luke nods and turns around to face Obi-Wan and hand him back the binoculars.
Luke
What are we waiting for?
Obi-Wan can’t help but return the boy’s smile.
Obi-Wan
Nothing, I suppose.
Beat picks up
Pan out back view of eopie and riders, until we see the large expanse that lays before them.
EXT. DESERT- NIGHT
Obi-Wan and Luke approach the ledge that we previously viewed, the wind speeding up and the outcropping jagged and rocky, rough terrain. Luke has donned his goggles an Obi-Wan has lifted a hand up, shielding his eyes.
Obi-Wan
We’re almost there. Can you see anything?
Luke
Not yet. (Pausing) I wanna go home.
Obi-Wan’s facial expression is the definition of an inaudible groan.
Obi-Wan
We shouldn’t turn back now.
Luke
I know, I just wish I hadn’t left.
Luke wraps his arms around himself, shivering in the cold.
Obi-Wan takes off his cloak and wraps it around the young child, bringing Rooh to a halt.
Obi-Wan
I’m going to check the motion scanner on here, give me a moment while-
He’s interrupted by the distinct sound of a TUSKEN RAIDER CALL, extremely close. His face falls.
Luke whimpers.
Obi-Wan (seriously)
Stay here.
Luke tries to protest, but stops as Obi-Wan begins walking away.
Invisible cut through sand:
Obi-Wan comes up on a patrol of three TUSKEN RAIDERS with their bantha mounts, prodding at E6-97, which moves uselessly in circles around them. They turn to see them, raising their weapons angrily and calling out.
Obi-Wan (calmly)
Hello there, friends.
The Tuskens don’t pick up on his friendly demeanor, instead focusing on his lightsaber. They howl in fear and rage and hold their GADERFFII in defensive positions. Obi-Wan winces.
Obi-Wan
Listen, that droid there-
He points to E6, which stops abruptly.
E6-97
Yes?
Obi-Wan
It’s mine. And I require it. It’s of great importance to me. I would be happy if you could let me take it and leave, and I’ll promise not to come near your territory again.
E6-97
I’m flattered, but I’m afraid I belong to Luke Skywalker, who won me fair and square at a dice match on the-
Obi-Wan
 Do hush.
E6-97 shuts up, and we wait for the Tuskens’ response.
One of the Tuskens lashes out at Obi-Wan, leaping with their Gaderffii and almost striking Obi-Wan, who dodges swiftly but does not ignite his lightsaber. Instead, he grabs hold of the Tusken’s Gaderffii and uses it to knock them off of their feet.
SLO-MO.
His gaze is intense as the wind slows around the scene, stars decorating the background and the distant sounds of animal life echo around the cavern. We hear the breaths of the Tuskens and Obi-Wan, almost unified in a way. A haunting beat plays as we get a taste of the force, the energies from both sides intense.
Obi-Wan (still calm, pleading) NORMAL SPEED
I do not wish to hurt you!
Back to SLO-MO
TOGETHER. The Tuskens move as one towards Obi-Wan, bringing their Gaderffii above their heads and howling.
Obi-Wan closes his eyes and reaches out towards the two with one hand, stopping them mid-air. The hang there as he repeats himself again, the sound echoing across the expanse of the desert and reverberating around. The banthas groan in fear and buck.
The music swells.
Obi-Wan
I do not wish to hurt you! Lay down your weapons and seek peace. I’m only here for the droid.
He sets them down gently, and no sound is heard.
NORMAL SPEED.
The Tuskens are shocked, shaken to the core.
It’s quiet as they put down their Gaderffii and mount their still alarmed banthas, riding away into the distance.
Obi-Wan breathes a sigh of relief.
E6-97
Thank you, sir. Whoever they were, they were quite rude. However I’m afraid I cannot go with you.
Obi-Wan looks at the droid flatly and says nothing as he hoists it up into his arms and carries it away.
E6-97
Or I can, but I would prefer not to. I must warn you I’m a rather old model so be careful please. You might not get as much use out of me as you think.
Obi-Wan
I’ve no use for a droid. I’m bringing you back to your owner.
E6-97
Oh really? Thank you! Of course, no one of mature age really needs a droid if it’s not in their line of work. Often times companion droids like myself aren’t needed because you have people you can hang out with. I was programmed to play with children, mostly. But I can do some organizational things and give relevant reports, so-
E6 pauses. Obi-Wan looks forward in focus, fighting against the wind.
E6-97
Oh, sorry. I didn’t realize I’d lost your interest.
Obi-Wan (chuckling)
Well, that would be the first time a droid has ever said that to me.
E6-97
I am programmed to pick up human emotions through my receptors and sensors. I could also tell that you’re upset, but I didn’t want to say anything.
Obi-Wan
I’m not upset.
E6-97
Okay.
A beat.
Okay so this is a first draft cuz I had no time to edit but I hope you guys enjoy!

Long Live the Queen: Part Seventeen
Tumblr media
No one really liked the plan. All of High Command knew it was a long shot at best. If they failed (which seemed the most likely outcome), then the Rebellion would be placed pretty firmly on the losing side. It would be beyond difficult to recover from that sort of loss. Still, if they succeeded... then the war was as good as over. It was high risk, but an even higher reward.
It had taken a lot of convincing. Months of squabbling had passed before Mon, Padmé, and Bail had managed to convince the rest of High Command to vote in their favor. But it wasn’t until Yoda and Obi-Wan began to argue that minds really started changing. After all, it is hard to disagree with the Grand Master of the Jedi Order.
All the while, Luke and Leia were kept safely hidden within the walls of the Yavin temple. Luke continued his training, at least when Obi-Wan wasn’t busy lending his expertise as a military advisor. Leia listened in on some of their sessions from time to time, but most of what they said was far beyond what she could understand. Yoda had promised, when all of this was over and the Empire destroyed, that she would be trained as a Jedi as well, alongside her brother and a new generation of Jedi knights. Sometimes, late at night, Luke would try to teach her some things, too, though not much more than a few simple meditative exercises. He even let her hold their father’s lightsaber once or twice. Leia always marveled at the power contained in such a small device—a power that seemed, somehow, not completely mechanical. As if there was some life to it.
But still, even being surrounded by thick walls of stone, guarded by trained soldiers and ancient Jedi, Leia felt a profound sense of unease. No matter how much she tried to meditate, to push it out of her mind, the feeling remained. A dark spot of dread in her heart that was slowly gnawing away at her sanity.
“It’s okay to be afraid,” her mother had said. “I’m afraid too. It’s okay if you don’t want to go on this mission. No one will think any less of you.”
No, Leia didn’t want to go through with this mission. But she still said yes anyway. Because it didn’t matter what she wanted. If she had a chance to do some good for the galaxy, that is what mattered. And she would do it standing side-by-side with her family, no matter if they lived or…
Or died.
Leia still had a hard time coming to terms with that part. She didn’t like thinking about it. She didn’t really even know how to think about it. The only thing she knew is that she felt scared.
But, somehow, the sound of the approaching ship, still just a little blip on the horizon, filled Leia with some long-awaited peace. It was as if the universe was trying to tell her that she was in the right place after all.
The ship approached the landing pad, making a soft descent and landing amid the sizable crowd that had gathered not only to greet the ship’s pilot, but to get a closer look at the ship itself.
“That’s an Eta-2 Actis-class Interceptor!” Luke beamed. “I’ve never seen one up close. They haven’t been in use since the Clone Wars! Heavy-repeating ion cannons… high-impulse, 118-megalight ion engines… Look! You can see how the reduced repulsorlift housing lets the ion impulse chamber gimbal up to thirty degrees for increased maneuverability. See, that was one of the big improvements over the older Aethersprite-class models—”
“You know that I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about, right?” said Leia.
Luke looked sheepish.
“It’s just… a really great ship, is all,” he said. “Master Kenobi says he used to fly one like this during the Clone Wars. So did dad. Except dad’s was yellow, not red.”
“Yes, it was,” said the woman climbing out of the cockpit. Luke immediately recognized her as the Jedi from his vision. Their mother’s friend and their father’s old apprentice, Ahsoka Tano.
“I remember,” she said. “It was bright yellow. It wasn’t very good for staying hidden but… Anakin was never very good at that anyway. He always dove in lightsaber-first to any conflict. It was probably foolish but… we won a lot of battles that way.”
Ahsoka jumped down from the ship onto the platform and walked up to Luke. She offered him a small bow.
“You must be Luke,” she said, smiling. “You look just like Anakin. I can sense that you have a lot of your father in you. The Force is strong with you, as it was for him.”
“Thank you,” Luke said, bowing in return. “It is an honor to finally meet you, Lady Tano. I’ve only ever heard stories about my father… but you actually met him. I just… I wish I could have met him, too.”
Ahsoka laid a gentle hand on Luke’s shoulder.
“There’s hope for that yet, young Skywalker. And please, just call me Ahsoka.”
“Alright,” said Luke.
“And it’s wonderful to see you, too Leia,” said Ahsoka. “Although you’re quite a bit bigger than the last time I saw you. I guess I’ve spent too many years running around the galaxy, I missed getting to see you grow up.”
“A pleasure, as always,” Leia said with a kind smile, curtseying just as a princess was trained to do.
Ahsoka caught Luke trying to get another glance over at the ship behind her.
“So, you like the ship?” Ahsoka asked.
“Yeah,” Luke said, trying to hide his excitement. “I’ve never had a chance to see one up close before.”
“It’s been sitting in storage for quite a few years now. Figured I’d dust it off again for one last mission. Do you want to get an even closer look? The cockpit’s all yours.”
Luke’s eyes lit up.
“Can I?” he beamed.
“Be my guest,” Ahsoka replied. “Just be careful not to disengage the reverse power coupling. The actuator tends to flip if you so much as breathe on it.”
Luke excitedly jumped up onto the ship and dropped down into the cockpit, grinning from ear to ear.
“Oh, well this certainly looks familiar,”  said Obi-Wan, walking up to greet them. “A Skywalker in the cockpit of an old Jedi interceptor. That does bring up some memories. Unfortunately, not all of them are good. I think I’m even getting a headache on behalf of my past self.”
“Obi-Wan,” said Ahsoka.
“Ahsoka,” he replied with a curt nod.
“You can’t fool me with that stiff-as-a-board routine, Obi-Wan. I know you too well. There’s a big, soft heart somewhere underneath all that beard.”
“Me? Stiff?” Obi-Wan said. “I don’t know where you got that. I can be funny—”
Ahsoka practically ran up to Obi-Wan and wrapped her arms around him. It took a few moments for Obi-Wan to get over the shock, but he hugged her back, too. They just stood there for a while, letting the other soak up so many years of shared pain before they finally let go.
“I’m very happy that you’re alright, Ahsoka,” said Obi-Wan. “If only one Jedi could have survived the Emperor’s purge, I would have wanted it to be you.”
“I’m not a Jedi anymore,” said Ahsoka.
“Are any of us?” Obi-Wan replied. “There’s no Temple. No Council. No Order. What does it matter what titles we wear?”
“I suppose you’re right,” said Ahsoka. “What matters is setting things right again. Speaking of which, where is Yoda?”
“In a briefing. That we should probably get ourselves to as well, unless we want to incur the wrath of Senator Amidala. Luke! Come. We’ve got to get ready.”
*****
The briefing room was emptied, except for the select few who had been given the clearance to know about this mission—other than the Jedi, there were the members of High Command, a few intelligence officers and high-ranking pilots. Luke and Leia were there, too, but they stood uneasily towards the back, both feeling very out-of-place in a war room.
“Thank you all, again, for your willingness to volunteer for this mission,” Mon Mothma began. “I’m sure you understand the risk involved. This is not a mission I would have approved under normal circumstances but… I have known Senator Amidala for many years, and I know that nothing would have prevented her from attempting the mission anyway once her mind was made up, in spite of anything I could have said. So, I propose that we give them the best possible chance of success that we can. As such, I am appointing Senator Amidala to be the commanding officer of this mission. I will therefore cede the floor to her. Padmé, if you will.”
“Thank, you Mon,” said Padmé, standing and taking her place before the council. “Captain Andor, you have the latest intelligence reports?”
“Yes, senator,” said the Captain, stepping up to address the group. “The ISD Devastator was confirmed patrolling the space near Saleucami. Two days ago, it made an emergency jump to Korriban, where it has been reported to have picked up a single Imperial light shuttle. It’s not certain, but the reports highly suggest that Darth Vader is aboard. The Devastator then moved to Telos to support the Imperial fleet against our forces stationed there. As of 0900 this morning, it is still in orbit. There haven’t been any sightings of Vader yet, but analysis of the Empire’s offensive strategies on Telos suggest Vader’s hand is in the campaign. This is the first real clue into Vader’s movements that we’ve found for months. If we’re going to act, we need to act now or Vader is going to disappear off the map again.”
“Is your droid ready, then?” asked Padmé.
“He is,” Captain Andor replied. “He is in position and ready to leak the information when I give the signal.”
“ISB is going to know it’s a trap,” said General Draven. “I don’t believe that they will commit a significant force to investigate, let alone Vader’s personal destroyer.”
“Of course they’ll know it’s a trap,” said Ahsoka. “That’s why we have to make the bait as tempting as possible. Not only the promise of the Rebel base, but of a Jedi… there’s no way that Vader won’t come see for himself.”
“He’ll have backup,” said Draven.
“It matters little, how many ships the Emperor sends,” said Yoda. “For no rebels on this moon will he find. A single ship is all we need. Risk destroying the ship, Vader will not, lest his prize he destroy with it.”
“Captain, is your strike team assembled?” Padmé asked.
“Yes,” Captain Andor replied. “Twenty men, plus the slicer. Enough to get us inside and take out more than a few stormtroopers. And I’ve got a pilot who should be able to get us in and out of a tight spot.”
“Then get ready and have your ship standing by for further orders,” Padmé ordered. “General Merrick, how long will it take to have the evacuation underway?”
“I can probably have all non-essential personnel off-world by 2200 tonight. It’ll take a little longer to get the equipment and munitions, but we can probably have the base cleaned up in two rotations.”
“You have one,” said Padmé. “Anything that isn’t boxed and shipped by tomorrow night is getting left behind. It’s not ideal, but time isn’t on our side. You are authorized to use any and all ships and crew you might need to assist in the evacuation. Getting these people out of the system is our number one priority.”
“Then it sounds like we’re committed to this,” said Obi-Wan. “The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this plan isn’t as crazy as I thought it was.”
“No, it’s still crazy,” said Ahsoka. “But just crazy enough that it might work. After all, my master was the expert in crazy schemes.”
“Yes, I suppose you did learn from the best. Well then, I suggest we all begin preparing. Tomorrow is going to be a very exciting day, no matter which way it turns out. May the Force be with us all.”

Precipice Deleted Scene
This comes from the most recent chapter (Part 7, Chapter 6/Chapter 72 overall). It’s an alternate version of what Leia saw in the Temple, one of three or four that I considered. This is the most complete.
I ended up using the other scene because I thought it flowed a little better/got the point across a little more clearly, and the focus is narrower/more effective for this point in her journey. The alternate scene here focuses a little more heavily on the Anakin and Leia parallels, and while I do love how alike those two are and their relationship (which is why it gets so much focus in the fic proper), I felt like this scene was the wrong place to focus on it.
Anyway, all that being said, the scene itself is behind the cut. It’s fairly rough/unedited/unfinished, but I did make sure it’s a complete scene with all transitions in. Some of them are fairly clunky/would be worked on a bit more before posting if this had made it into the fic proper.
Enjoy!
She’d finally found something that felt new--a steep, narrow staircase; almost more like a ladder--and was trying to decide whether to go up or down, when she caught sight of a flash of movement out of the corner of her eye.
Leia’s heartbeat sped up again, and she paused, listening carefully for footsteps or any sounds that the machinery had changed, but she was still safe. Undiscovered.
A vision, maybe? she thought. Is that how this is supposed to work?
She stayed where she was for a moment, practically holding her breath and waiting for another sign.
And there it was again--at the far end of the corridor, a hint of what might be a tattered cloak shifting as someone walked across the dusty stone.
No footsteps, though.
Definitely a vision. Finally! ...oops.
She turned away from the stairs but took another moment to close her eyes and take a breath, to settle herself before she took her next step.
There is no passion, there is serenity. I can do this. But not if I jump at shadows. Even good, exciting ones.
When her heartrate had mostly gone back to normal, Leia opened her eyes again and started walking, forcing herself to keep a steady, even pace.
Once again, it took forever.
Patience, she reminded herself. That’s probably the test here. That’s what I have most trouble with, right? And if I pass it, I get a crystal, and then I can start really helping Dad and everyone.
The corridor ended, leaving her in a small, circular room with no exits other than the one behind her. Unlike the pathway here, though, the room had its own light. Leia held for a second, letting her eyes readjust--
There was someone there.
A man, tall and solidly built and bald all over, with patchwork white scars running all over his face--one particularly bad one just visible at the top of his head--and something strangely familiar about his eyes.
“Hello?” she tried.
He smiled at her. “Hello. ...huh.”
“What?”
“Nothing,” he said. “I just...you’re taller than I expected.”
Leia glowered at him, drawing herself up as much as she could, and he bit back another smile.
“I’m sorry, that was rude. Please, join me.”
“Who are you?” she asked, settling across from him with her hands at rest in her lap, just like Aunt Beru said she should if they were idle. To be polite.
“Not important,” he said.
“Are you a ghost?”
He grimaced. “Not...exactly,” he said. “But the Temple has been--damaged. Corrupted. The veil is thin here. Besides, I’ve never been all that good at following the rules I didn’t like.” He winked at her.
She stared at him, but, despite herself, she felt herself relaxing a little. He sounds almost like Dad.
“You’re a lot like your father, you know,” he said, after a moment. Almost as if he’d heard her thoughts.
Well, Force-vision, right? He probably can, even if actual mind-reading doesn’t work like that.
“Yes, I am,” she said, not bothering to hide her pride at that.
He studied her for a moment. “You...you know that’s not entirely a good thing, right?”
“What are you trying to say?” she asked. “My father is a good man.”
Something she couldn’t quite read flashed across his eyes.
Patience, she reminded herself, and took a deep breath. This is a Test, remember? Whoever the Force has chosen to manifest as here--this is not the way.
“I mean,” she said. “I mean, I know he isn’t perfect. No sentient being is. But he’s my dad, and he’s a good person, and I love him. And there are way worse people I could be like.”
“I’m not gonna argue with that,” he said.
“Good.”
“But you are like him,” he said. “Both the good and the bad.”
“If that’s what this test is--”
“This isn’t a test,” he interrupted. “It’s a lesson.”
“Meaning what?”
“You could burn it all down, if you wanted to,” he said quietly. “I mean, if you really wanted to.”
She chewed that over for a moment. “You mean the Empire?”
“I mean all of it.”
She frowned. “I’m not sure I understand,” she said. “The Empire is--” She thought of Mom and Luke and the constant tension on Coruscant. She thought of Dad and Aunt ‘Soka and Uncle Obi-Wan and everything they’d lost. She thought of Uncle Rex and the bad dreams he pretended not to have.
The Empire had done all of that.
“Are you saying it doesn’t need to go?”
He shrugged. “That’s not my question to answer. Not here and now.”
“Then what are you saying?” she asked.
“I’m saying,” he said, “that you need to be careful.” He held up a hand to stop her interrupting. “Careful when and where you set that fire. That you’re sure it’s the right one, and that you can live with the collateral when you lose control.”
“If I lose control.”
“When.”
She stared at him.
“The kind of fire I’m talking about, it’s definitely when,” he said. “Because when you burn it all down, you burn it all down.”
Leia thought about that for a minute. She thought about all the times she’d been--angry. Been tempted to hurt people, because they’d hurt the people she loved. If she really got going, on a scale like the entire galaxy, like the Empire…
Okay. He--might have a point there.
But this was still the Empire they were talking about. Control and patience were important, yes, but so was doing the right thing. So was justice.
“It might still be worth it,” she said.
“I know,” he said. “That’s why I said to be sure it’s worth it. Trust me.”
“Who are you?” she asked again.
This time, to her surprise, he actually answered. “In another life,” he said, “I’m the man who destroyed your father.”
She was on her feet before she realized it. “You--”
“Another life,” he interrupted her. He smiled, wryly. “I’m not saying that someone like me might not get to him, someday, under the right circumstances. But my time has passed. Long ago. Before you were born.”
She took a moment, and then another, and another, and when she was pretty sure her voice would be steady, she asked, “Why are you telling me this?”
“Because there was a time when I thought burning everything down was the answer,” he said, then gestured at the scars on his face. “Look where it got me.”
She studied him for a moment, then sat back down. “And that’s when you killed--killed my dad?”
“That’s when I destroyed him,” he said. “And that was the least of what I did. I’m--like you. Born of fire. I don’t want to see you become what I did.”
“In another life.”
“Yes.”
There was a moment of silence, while she studied his scars in the uncertain light, and thought about--about that unimaginable thing, that Dad was gone.
And that was the least of it. Or so her vision said.
“But you’re talking to me here and now,” she said. And he didn’t--feel evil. Not like the kind of monster he was describing should.
“I got better,” he said, answering her unspoken question. “After. Eventually. It took a while, and a lot of help, and some very, very special circumstances. But I would give anything to have another chance. To do things right.”
“Right,” she said.
“I’m not saying I wouldn’t’ve still decided that--that at least some of what I destroyed needed to come down,” he said. “It’s...hard, even now. There were...external factors. And--well, like I said. I burn things--it’s what I’m good at. Always was, even before...well.” He shook his head. “But maybe I wouldn’t have. If I thought things through, I like to think that I would’ve...would’ve managed the collateral better. At the very least.”
She thought about that for a long, long time. Long enough that she started to feel--not quite in a trance-state, exactly, but...not quite here, either.
“Sometimes, I guess that’s all you can really do,” she said, eventually, and the weight of that sank down on her.
“Yes,” he said, simply.
“Oh.”
“I’m not trying to tell you you’re bound to be a monster, or to make you afraid to act,” he said. “That’s not the lesson here. The lesson is to think before you act. And if you really do end up burning it all down--well, that’s your choice. And maybe it will be the right one. But be sure it’s worth it.”
She nodded, slowly. “I...think I understand,” she said. Patience. Just like Uncle Obi-Wan and everyone keeps telling me.
He smiled at her one last time, and glanced up at the ceiling. “You should probably get going,” he said. “Your father and Baze Malbus made a little more noise than they should have. You’ll want to be on your way as soon as possible, after curfew ends.”
She blinked, and for another half a moment felt all floating and detached, before the hard stone under her felt real again. “Right,” she said, and stood up again, more smoothly than before. Despite the fact that her legs were half-asleep and all tingly.
He rose as well, and offered her his hand.
She accepted, and felt something small and hard and warm rest in it, which helpfully anchored her, chasing away the last echoes of disorientation. “So, I passed the test?” she asked, hopefully.
“Not a test,” he said again, smiling almost sadly. “A lesson. One you’ll probably have to keep learning and relearning for the rest of your life. You are a child of fire, Leia. Like your father. And me.”
She nodded, and closed her hand around the crystal. “I’ll remember,” she promised.
“Good,” he said, and bowed. “May the Force be with you. Princess.”

SW Rey Theory - Legacy of Light - Chapter 26
< - Previous Chapter
Table of Contents - >
(10 and 11 years after Return of the Jedi)
Ashla stared numbly out the transparisteel glass of the Millennium Falcon as Nyx jumped the ship into hyperspace. It was strange to be back on this ship, but it felt good to be somewhere familiar again. She knew better than to be worried about her mom now, but she was tired of feeling guilty that her mom had to save her sorry butt. As if Ahsoka didn’t have enough to worry about, now she was causing her more trouble. One of these days she was going to get her killed, and that scared her. She bit her lip and glanced over at her uncle that she hadn’t seen for fifteen years. She’d been so lost in thought, she didn’t realize he was studying her. “What?”
“Nothing…” he looked away, brushing his long dark hair out of his eyes. He looked thinner than she remembered, and paler. Was he still drinking so much?
“Thank you for picking me up,” she said nervously, expecting him to be angry that he’d had to get involved with her again. She had no idea how her mom had found him and gotten here so fast, but she was grateful. “I don’t mean to cause you trouble.” He sighed and leaned his head back against the chair.
“You aren’t trouble, Ashla,” he murmured, closing his eyes. She wanted to ask him why that wasn’t what it felt like sometimes, but maybe it was better to let it go. She couldn’t remember the last time he was this quiet and not upset about something. She wondered what had changed since the last time she’d seen him. They’d kept in touch over the years, but not a lot was said about where they were or what they were doing. So the conversations were brief and sporadic. She’d missed him, despite knowing that he’d probably been happy to be rid of her after dropping her off at the enclave. “I’m sorry,” he said after awhile. “I should have taken better care of you.”
“Uncle Nyx…” tears welled up in her eyes and she hopped up to hug him. “You did take good care of me. I didn’t understand it before, but I do now. You were scared, and after what I’ve seen, I understand why.”
“But it was my job as your guardian to protect you and I didn’t,” he patted her awkwardly on the arm and she let go. She’d forgotten he wasn’t as openly affectionate as Rex had been.
            “You can’t blame yourself.”
“But I do.” He stared at his feet. “When your mother showed up on my doorstep, I liked her right away. She gave me a hard time, pressuring me into letting her stay while I got beat up by thugs looking for some money I owed them. I don’t remember what all happened, but when I came to, they were gone and Ahsoka was standing over me offering to help me up. I never did figure out how she got rid of them, since there weren’t any cops nearby, but I was too grateful to care. After seeing the way she fought that guy back there, well… I guess I finally have an answer. Now I feel pretty foolish for all my rants to her about how much I hated Jedi. Without her help, I think my business would have tanked. She pulled me out of a bad place, kept debt collectors off my back and helped out around the shop. I was nervous about the future when she told me she was pregnant, I had no idea what to expect. Dealing with kids was not my forte. She was so patient with me, she let me help take care of you even though I wasn’t your father and I guess I fell in love with you a bit quicker than I wanted to admit to anyone.” He fell silent for awhile. She kept hoping he’d continue, but he didn’t.
“My mom said that even though leaving me behind was the hardest choice she ever had to make, she trusted you,” she smiled reassuringly at him.
“I don’t know why. I badmouthed her old life, I badmouthed your father, I even badmouthed her…”
She reached out and squeezed his hand. “Jedi can sense things. She knew that in your heart you were a good person and that you’d take care of me as if I were your own, and you did.” She tried to sit back down but felt something inside her and she almost missed the seat. “Whoa.”
“Are you alright?” he asked as she hunched back against the seat.
“Yeah, I'm just tired." She stared straight ahead wondering if it meant what she thought it did. She shook it off, she'd been through a lot today and frankly, she didn't trust her senses right now. She hoped she’d be able to trust them again after what happened with Starkiller. "Nyx?”
          “Hmm?”
“What changed? Why are you suddenly so… uh… nice?” She blushed realizing that probably wasn’t how she should have asked him what was going through his mind.
“I guess I’m turning into an old softie,” he smirked at her and looked away.
“Seriously, what gives? You’re acting weird.” She rolled her eyes.
“Something your mother said before she jumped out…” she held her breath wondering if he’d actually tell her what that was.
“Well? What?” she begged him to continue.
“All these years I’ve stupidly believed that I’d gotten stuck raising you when that wasn’t at all what I thought I wanted to do. I resented her for the trouble it caused me. Meanwhile, she’d been wishing it was her that had you. That she’d gotten to be the one there and not me. The ironic part, I suppose… was that if your mother had been interested in being with me, I would have helped raise you anyways.” He looked up at her and she watched him curiously. “I don’t think she ever wanted me like that, mind you, but I kept hoping maybe she would if she saw what I did for you. Then seeing her again, wowee… it took my breath away.” His eyes widened, and he looked at her. “Don’t tell her I said that. I shouldn’t have said that.” He leapt to his feet and left the cockpit mumbling to himself and she stared after him confused.
She shook her head, smiling. So that was the main reason he’d put up with her for so long? He was still madly in love with her mother. It didn’t really surprise her to learn that. Everyone she’d ever talked to that had known her mother was enamored by her. And why shouldn’t they be? She was amazing! She was powerful, strong, soft, kind, brilliant... Ezra had admired her. Rex respected her and would do anything for her. Chewbacca had cared for her. Her father, who’d married a queen, had fallen in love with her. Ahsoka was just that type of person; you couldn’t help but love her.
She glanced down at her belly. She wasn't sure how she felt about sensing she could be pregnant. She thought she'd loved Galen. They'd definitely had chemistry, but after finding out who he really was... the idea that she was carrying his child made her nervous. She wanted to be a mother, at least she'd known for sure she did after making that deal with her own mom years ago. This was not how she’d imagined it, but maybe now that her mom was back from wherever she'd gone for so long, maybe they could finally be together. Maybe her mom would help her raise it. Although she hoped Ahsoka wouldn't be disappointed to find out Starkiller was the father.
Thinking about her mom reminded her that she’d just left her to fend for herself with dozens of crazy acolytes closing in around her and Starkiller intent on killing her. She tipped her head back, reaching into the force. “Mom? Are you still there?”
“Of course, I am, love.” Ashla smiled the moment her mom’s voice came through. “It takes more than a raging maniac to bring me down. You should know that by now.”
“I do, I do,” she laughed. Her mom sounded lighter, but still so serious. Like she knew something Ashla didn't. She didn’t know enough to understand the whole weight of what Starkiller had been trying to do to her, but the way her mom had reacted when she’d said they had dad’s helmet… Her mom had reacted in fear. It had crashed through her so strongly it had startled her. She’d never felt her mother afraid before. If she had been, she’d hid it well. Her mom had always known what to do, what to say. She seemed so sure of herself all the time, and Ashla wanted nothing more than to live up to that; to become that confident.
So if her mother was afraid of this, she was too. This was bigger than she thought. She stared out the transparisteel glass and tried to relax, but a deep sense of foreboding settled inside her. They’d dismantled the Empire before, they could face this threat too, right?
 ---
"I need to, uh, meditate," Luke looked away nervously after Leia went to check on her son. Ahsoka watched him tiredly for a moment but didn't move. Seeing him in person after so long was strange. He was almost a spitting image of Anakin, but she could see Padmé’s softness in him. Life and responsibility had been thrust at him with such force it was amazing he was standing so strongly in the light. This was the child that had tipped the balance in his father and brought him back to her. If only he knew how much that meant to her. Maybe someday she would tell him. Or maybe not. Well Padmé, your children turned out just fine. I think you’d be proud. I just wish after what we’ve all been through, that things were getting better not worse. I promise I’ll try to help them as best I can.
"Master Yoda. Master Kenobi. Anakin… If you're there, we need a word," she said aloud, crossing her arms in front of her.
"Oh right... I forgot you… wait..." Luke didn't get to finish his thought as the three force ghosts appeared in the room.
"It's good to see you again, Ahsoka."
"I wish it was under better circumstances," she brushed off Obi wan's words, not in the mood for false pleasantries. She paced back and forth as she recited everything she possibly could about what she'd learned on Taris, without of course, mentioning that Ashla was her daughter. She tried to ignore the way Anakin watched her carefully. The others were distracted by the words she'd said, but he’d always been in tune with more than that. He knew something else troubled her and she wasn't ready to say what.
Once they were deep in conversation about the information she'd delivered, she slipped out and made her way to her daughter's room. She sat down on the bed and dropped her face in her hands, sighing deeply. It wasn't long before she felt Anakin join her. She should have known he'd follow her here. Didn’t he have bigger things to worry about? This was about his family after all.
"I sense there's something else that's bothering you about this." He sat next to her on the bed.
"That's because there is," she sighed again. She was too tired to cry now, she just felt numb. Why couldn't the dark side stop needing to rule the galaxy for five minutes?
"Talk to me, Snips." He reached for her hand and she let him take it. At least the flicker of electricity she felt gave her hope she wasn't too far gone.
"Starkiller said that they were trying to resurrect Darth Vader. I don't know if that's possible, but I have a feeling that if they manage it, you're not going to come back to life as this. You'll be something twisted and dark; and possibly worse than before. I can't lose you again, Anakin. My heart can't take it. I'm getting too old for this." She wished she could lean her head down on his shoulder or fold herself in his arms, but even though he sometimes felt solid, she knew she'd only go right through him. Which would be considerably less satisfying. She was capable of curling up in a ball all by herself, doing it with him there would only exaggerate the pain.
          "You won't lose me, Ahsoka."
"You don't know that.” She threw her other hand up in frustration. “I'm tired of fighting. It's all I've ever done. Every time I think I could lay down my lightsabers and walk away, something else happens."
"You don't have to get involved in it. This isn’t your fight. You've warned Leia, you've warned Luke. Let them worry about it now. You've done more than anyone can ask of you," he smiled reassuringly at her, but he didn't understand. He didn't know the whole truth. It wasn't that simple. Their fight was her fight, because she had a daughter that also belonged to him. They might not be her blood, but they were still her family in a way.
"I can't stop, Anakin. I have too much to fight for."
"This is about more than losing me, isn't it?" He tipped her chin back.
          "Yes."
          "Tell me."
"I can't, Anakin. Someday I will, I promise, but I'm not ready yet." Her eyes burned with the millions of tears she'd already shed over this. Why couldn't she just tell him about their daughter? Why did she hold it back now? She had nothing to lose... and yet, it felt like she had everything to lose...
"Ahsoka..." he was interrupted by Luke's call from the hallway.
          "Dad?"
"Go, your son needs you," she breathed, gesturing to the door.
"What about you?" he looked back at her sadly.
"I'll be okay." At least she hoped she would be. He hesitated a moment longer and then left her sitting there alone. Ashla was safe; she was with Nyx. She was out of Starkiller's grasp. She'd be okay now. But she'd just found out her daughter was pregnant, and it felt like history was repeating itself. Only this time around, it was far worse than before, and somehow the stakes felt so much higher.
She scoured the room for any of Ashla's belongings she'd left behind, put them in her bag and left Devoran behind her. It was time to confer with Morai and learn everything she possibly could about these acolytes. Morai had told her something very disturbing on Taris; she wasn't the only one that had escaped Mortis in a new form. Her brother; the Son... Ren… was still alive, and he might be the one behind all this. Which meant, this wasn't just a small-time cult with delusions of grandeur. It was a far bigger threat than any of them were ready to face. He'd had far too many years to build it before being discovered. Why hadn’t she connected the dots before?
 ---
“What’s the matter?” Ashla studied the faraway look her uncle got as he held her newborn child. The fallen walker they’d made home in the middle of the desert on Jakku was… well it would do for now. It was private. It was far from everything, and after the Empire’s horrible defeat here, it was the last place anybody would think to look for them. Hopefully…
“Nothing. I was just remembering what it was like to hold you for the first time. I delivered you too, you know. It’s come full circle I guess,” he smiled at her and brushed his jet-black hair back out of his eyes.
“You delivered me?” she laughed, sitting up on the bed. She wished her mom was here right now, but as usual Ahsoka had far more pressing matters to attend to. She wondered how Luke was doing. If they’d been able to help Ben. Her mom had told her not to worry about it, but she did. For the second time she’d been taken away from her brother; her family. Just when she’d thought things were finally looking up. She’d locked away her mother’s lightsabers and sworn that she wasn’t going to do anything that could draw attention to them here. But if this child ended up being a force user, she wanted it to learn too. She’d have to worry about that when it got older.
“Well obviously I didn’t do the work, but I caught you when you came out. Don’t sound so surprised!” Nyx had chosen to stay with her for awhile after they’d found this place. She was grateful to not be alone. He’d changed a lot in fifteen years. He didn’t drink anymore, but he still liked to gamble too much. She got the impression that he was trying to make it up to her mother for all the years he’d resented her. She didn’t care why he stayed, she was just glad he did. He came around and handed the little girl to her. “So, what are you going to name it?”
She was instantly in love with the infant in her arms. She thought about what her mom had said about how she got her own name. Then she remembered what Ezra had said to her; about how she lit up the room like her mother, and for the first time, she fully understood how something so amazing and good could be born of darkness; as though the sun had finally peeked out from behind the clouds. She smiled, unable to hold in the joy she felt. “Rey. Her name is Rey.”

[Obimaul] The beginning of trust
Darth Sidious left Maul lying in midst of the plaza where the battle took place, where his brother had fallen. He laid there for hours before he was able to lift his crushed body and crawl to the earthly remains of his brother, the one person he ever cared about. The battle was waging on outside, but it seemed so far away, so unimportant. Maul never really understood what Savage meant to him, but now that he was gone grief struck him like a tsunami. The tidal waves of sorrow ebbed and flowed, whenever he felt like he could lift himself up and turn away, his eyes wandered towards the cold body of his brother, that lay in front of him. He must have remained there for quite some time now, but time had no meaning in this endless moment, nothing truly had. He was alone with his thoughts and was filled with something different than hatred, then he heard steps in the distance. The steps were getting closer, they must have been coming towards him, but he could not care less at this point.
As the steps stopped a few feet behind him his mind was interrupted when he heard the all too familiar crackling of the focused beam of a lightsaber. He turned to face his adversary, fearing that Sidious had returned, but was surprised to see Kenobis face. "Leave me alone." Maul whispered under his breath. Kenobi, looking down at Maul at that very moment, said: "You shall answer for your crimes. For what you have done to Mandalore, for what you have done to her." At the last part his voice cracked a bit and Maul could see his own pain in Kenobis eyes. "Go away." He pleaded again, this time louder, but still barely audible over the lightsabers low humming. Kenobi made another step towards Maul, raising his blade into a ready position, since he expected to engage in combat. "Go away!" shouted Maul, his voice cracking as tears started running down the Siths face. "Please..." He added in a whispering tone. Kenobi was baffled by this display of pain, but he raised his lightsaber fully intent on exacting justice on Maul and swung it down.
The blade stopped just before it hit his abstracted and helpless enemy, stopping the fatal blow. "No." Kenobi said to himself as Mauls tear-streaked visage lifted a bit to look at Kenobis face. His blade retracted back into the hilt as he repeated to himself: "No. Revenge is not the Jedi way". Maul stared blankly at Kenobis face as he once more asked Kenobi to leave. Kenobis eyes sharpened a bit as he gathered new resolve: "No, they will come and they will kill you if you stay." "I don't care." Maul said. "I lost. I lost it all." He continued to whisper. Kenobi struggled with himself, Maul was a wanted criminal and Sith. But was that broken man that laid in front of him really Maul? Did he not deserve a second chance? He thoght about his teachings, something to guide him now. He knew the council would deem Maul too big a threat and would order his imprisonment, or worse. But his former master always believed that the council was not always right, and he thought that by defying the councils potential will, he would act according to Qui-Gons example.
A moment passed as he stood in moderate silence, that was only broken by the distant sounds of battle and the sobbing of Maul. He decided. "Maul! Stand up! You will not die here, it is not your time." Maul looked confused but did not stand up, he could not force himself to get away from his brother. "I will bring you away from here, both of you." At that Maul reacted. "Where?" He asked with a raspy voice. At that Obi Wan had to think, since he did not knew yet. Then it came to him. "Dathomir! We will get your brother a proper burial." He exclaimed. Maul seemed to think about that and then slowlly rose to his feet. He still seemed catatonic and his eyes were devoid of thought. Kenobi activated his Comm. "R4, can you get me an empty shuttle?." R4 beeped in response. "No I do not care where you get it from, I just need a shuttle. Out there is war, no one will miss a shuttle now!" He looked at Maul and could not help but notice that his lightsaber was still lying a few feet away, but that unsurprisingly did not bother Maul, it would be better if he lost it here Obi Wan thought.
It took a few seconds, but R4 arrived with a little starship shuttle. He landed it on the plaza and opened the ramp to let his master board the ship. Kenobi kneeled before savage and awaited some sort of signal from Maul, who just nodded to show his approval. He carefully lifted Savage up, which required some serious effort, and carried the body inside the shuttle, where he placed it on the ground, since there was no medbay onboard. Maul followed sheepishly, still apathic from shock and pain. As R4 set sight on Maul he started screaming loudly in a manner typical for droids of the R series. "It's okay R4, trust me." He beeped a bit calmer in reply. Maul sat down at one of the shuttles seats, as Kenobi manned the cockpit. "Calculate the route to these coordinates R4 - Yes I know that that's no republic territorry." Kenobi said while starting the engines and soon after R4 had calculated the route and programmed the hyperspace navigation computer. "Now one more thing R4, you will leave this shuttle in a few seconds and then get to the Interceptor. You will then drive the Interceptor to the coordinates you just calculated and pick me up, you get that?". R4 beeped affirmatively. "Good, now get to the Interceptor."
A few minutes later the duo entered hyperspace and Kenobi went back to check on Maul. "Is there a home we can bury your brother at?" "There is nothing left for us." "Maybe some distant relatives or something in the likes of that? Or is there anywhere Savage would like to have been buried?" "We have no more family, but there might be..." he stopped mid sentence. "There might be what?" "A place Savage would like to be..." he fell silent again and Obi Wan could see how he was fighting to keep the tears back. "Don't worry, you can show it to me after we arrive. I better check on the navicomputer." They both knew he was lying, but Maul felt grateful for that, he didn't had to hold the tears back now. He knelt before his bother and cried silently over his chest, whereas Obi Wan pretended not to hear the silent sobbing of Maul. After a while they dropped out of hyperspace and proceeded to land on Dathomir. "Maul, can you show me the place you where talking about?" Kenobi asked softly. A few seconds later Maul silently guided them to a place of his childhood, that little bit of free time they had they spent there, playing below the leafs of this giant tree. "Here? I thought it would be somewhat less welcoming." Obi Wan said in his usual manner, imediately regretting it as he saw Mauls spiteful gaze. "I am sorry, I should not have said that." He said abruptly. Maul was surprised and caught off guard, so he looked away to hide his face.
Kenobi landed the shuttle and opened the loading ramp. "Maul, let us find a good spot. I will do the digging." He saw Maul obviously looking like he would say that he'd dig too but said before he could object: "I insist!" Maul again felt strange receiving such kindness from an enemy, but he also felt grateful. They searched for about half an hour until they found a suitable spot and Obi Wan started digging immediately. Meanwhile Maul prepared Savage with what little he had. He took some of the giant leaves from the tree and wrapped his brother in them, all but his face which he left uncovered. "Are you ready?" Kenobi asked as he arrived at the shuttle. Maul inhaled deeply and answered with yes. Kenobi carried Savage over to the site, and carefully placed him beside the grave. "Do you want to say anything special?" "No." Obi Wan placed his Hands at the sides of Mauls fallen brother and said "Okay, then I shall-" "Wait!" Maul shouted to Kenobis surprise. Kenobi lifted an eyebrow as Maul looked at him with a look that could almost be interpreted as embarrassment. Maul sighed and sat down at the head of Savage and slowly placed his own forhead atop of his brothers. "You were always there for me. You found me. You saved me. You brought me back." His words where only a whisper now. "I love you." A moment passed in silence until Maul lifted his had, with tears running down his cheeks, and nodded towards Kenobi, who carefully heaved Savage into his final resting place.
Kenobi finished the burial and they sat there for a while in silent comfort. Kenobis comm was blinking for quite some time now and he looked at Maul, signaling him that it was time to part, to which Maul bowed his head. He activated the comm: "You can pick me up now R4." and they sat there for another few minutes until R4 arrived with the Interceptor. R4 just landed and opened the Interceptor, to which Kenobi strolled. He climbed in to the Interceptor and just as he was about to close the cockpit Maul said: "Thank you Kenobi." To which he just nodded supportively and closed the cockpit. he had done the right thing today. He started the engines and flew away.
A few days later the funeral for Satine took place on Mandalore, of course Obi Wan was there. Ahsoka Tano and Anakin skywalker accompanied him. It was a small ceremony, due to the circumstances that ruled Mandalore now. She would not have wanted for this, he knew that, but the turn of evnts was irreversible. The occupation was for the best, otherwise Death Watch might still have been ruling Mandalore. The funeral was attended by friends and allies only. Tano and Skywalker felt restless nonetheless, as if there were some dark presence around that was watching them. Obi Wan on the other hand, was calmer than ever. He felt the presence too, but he knew it was someone who would find his way back to the light. He knew it was someone who suffered the same pain he did and he knew that it was someone who was sorry and very grateful. He knew it was Maul, and he was thankful for Maul to be returning the favor that Kenobi gave him. There was definetly good in Maul, it just needed time to grow.

Summary: In a world where the different Jedi sects co-exist, Ahsoka Tano and her Master Obi-Wan Kenobi are waiting for a stranger in the desert.
AN: I have started a new WIP.
Ahsoka had learned quite a lot since she had become her Master’s Padawan. Mostly she had been taught how to fight, take down opponents twice her size, how to defend and protect others by building walls higher than anyone could climb, and not get lost in the screaming, tear-stained horror of war. Perhaps it was not the padawanhood that Ahsoka had imagined, but she wouldn’t trade Obi-Wan for any other Master. He was patient, kind, and never lost his temper with her, even when Ahsoka made a foolish mistake, and the day had been longer than a week.
Her Master always kept busy, running around organizing one thing or another. The evidence of his exhaustion was visible in the bags under his eyes he didn’t quite manage to hide behind meditations anymore. He was relentlessly trying to find a way to end this war earlier, to save more people, to lessen the burden on each and every person he loved. Ahsoka would be glad if they could cease fighting within just a few short months, but even she knew that the chance of peace was dwindling with every life lost on either side.
And they certainly weren’t on Tatooine to talk about peace. At most, they were hoping to negotiate non-involvement from the Hutts – at least superficially, of course the Hutts would continue with their underground dealings, even the GAR relied on it – and use of their hyperspace lanes.
“General, if you don’t mind me asking, who are we waiting for?”
Ahsoka was glad that Cody had spoken up. She wasn’t sure if she would have been able to keep her silence much longer. She hadn’t wanted to pester Obi-Wan with questions, but she was curious why they had landed in the middle of the Force-forsaken desert in the middle of the night and not anywhere near Jabba’s palace.
“We are waiting for an informant,” Obi-Wan said. “An old friend, if you will.”
Ahsoka opened her mouth to ask what kind of friend Obi-Wan had on Tatooine of all places when she saw a figure approaching on a speeder. Immediately, everyone looked up. When a few of the more blaster-inclined clones of their small squadron reached for their weapons, Obi-Wan gave them the hand sign to lay low. They exchanged curious looks but dropped the guns, trusting him completely. Ahsoka hoped that she could inspire such trust in her someday.
The person parked their speeder just outside of their camp. From what Ahsoka could see, they were dressed entirely in dark robes, cut not dissimilar to those of a Coruscanti Jedi, while their face was covered by a dark scarf. Various trinkets hung from their belts and arms, as well as twin blasters, making the barest of noises when they approached the camp. Golden jewelry glinted in the light of their fire, feathers, pouches, bells, and something that could be bones chimed sweetly with the wind. The figure stretched, then they took notice of Obi-Wan. Quicker than Ahsoka could have stopped them, they had crossed the remaining distance and thrown themselves at Obi-Wan.
“Obi-Wan!”
Her Master just barely managed to keep his balance as he accepted the hug of the other person. They embraced tightly, an eternity passing in which dark leather-gloved fingers dug into her Master’s back, then let go of each other. The figure removed the dark scarf from around their head, let it fall around their neck, revealing tanned skin, a human face, and dark blonde hair that was framed by little golden feathers tugged behind his ears.
The person smiled openly, rolled forward on their toes and only then spoke. “It’s been a while.”
Their voice was surprisingly soft, melodic almost.
“That it has,” Obi-Wan agreed, smiling just as welcoming, the Force lighting up in reciprocal. “It has been too long since we last saw each other, Anakin. Thank you for meeting us here, even if the circumstances are not ideal.”
The newly named Anakin just shrugged. “I was in the area and really, making an extra stop at Tatooine for you is no trouble.”
The two looked ready to forget about just everyone else still standing around the campfire, watching them, and so Ahsoka decided to do her duty and coughed. “Master, would you be so kind as to introduce us?”
“Ah, yes, of course. Apologies, Ahsoka.”
“Ahsoka,” Anakin mumbled, then snapped their fingers, alight with recognition as they faced Obi-Wan. “Your Padawan, correct?”
Obi-Wan nodded and Anakin grinned, pointing at Cody next. “And then that must be Cody. It’s nice to meet you, I’m Anakin Skywalker, he/him.”
He bowed formally with both his feet firm on the ground, one hand clasped over his heart, the other on his back. Delighted, Ahsoka copied the gesture. It had been ages since she’d been at the temple and someone had greeted her with all the respect Jedi usually gave each other.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Ahsoka returned his greeting, still trying to figure out who this Anakin was that her Master had decided to talk to him about her.
“Anakin here is a Teepo Paladin—”
“Sort of,” Anakin interrupted Obi-Wan, tilting his hand and shaking it in a so-and-so matter. “I haven’t been back to our temple in years, so I’m still not technically a Paladin, but still a Knight on their Search…”
He stopped talking when he realized that nobody had any idea of what he was talking about. Ahsoka didn’t know much about the Teepo Paladins. They were a relatively small group, and unlike the Altisian or Corellian Jedi, they hadn’t joined the Republic Army and stayed mostly on their own, following the Force. Ahsoka had learned about them, and all the other groups the ordinary sentient threw under the header Jedi, in her classes, but she’d never actually met a Teepo Jedi.
“Doesn’t matter,” Anakin said, shaking his head. “How can I help you?”
“We need to negotiate with Jabba,” Obi-Wan said, not wasting a single minute. “Do you think you can tell us something that would be useful?”
“Uh,” Anakin put his head in his hands. “Yeah, he’s a bastard and gates my guts. If he sees me around you guys, it’s definitely not going to be pleasant.”
“What did you do to him?” Ahsoka asked, curiosity taking ahold of her tongue before she could stop herself.
Anakin didn’t seem to mind the interruption; he only eagerly continued his narration. “Decided to steal his latest shipment of slaves and then some. With Coruscant, Corellia, and the Altisian bores—”
“Anakin.” Her Master’s voice rang out sharp, reminding Ahsoka of the times he scolded her.
Anakin rolled his eyes. “Fine, fine, the Altisian Jedi all running the Republic army, the rest, who hasn’t sworn allegiance to a planet or a system, is just doing damage control all around. I’ve wrecked a couple dozen pirate ships already, or so it feels, at least. But yeah, long story short, I won’t be able to help with Jabba, but I can provide backup if it goes sideways?”
Obi-Wan sighed, but even so, he still felt happy and comfortable to Ahsoka’s senses as he hadn’t in weeks. “We’ll take what we can get. I’ll call the Council. Do you want to stay with us for the night?”
Anakin gave him a thumbs up. “Already told my mother I was staying. And I brought my own food, so you don’t have to spare your rations. I think I might even have some sweets.” He glanced at Ahsoka and winked conspiringly, making her giggle.
Obi-Wan’s expression softened. “Alright, alright, I see, you’re set for life. Get comfortable then.”
He turned around to walk a little away from the camp, but from the way his shoulders twitched, Ahsoka assumed that he definitely heard Anakin’s shouted: “Not without you!”
As her Master had ordered, everyone who wasn’t on watch gathered around the campfire and broke out the rations. Anakin did, indeed, share his candy with her and handed out more of the local food to the clones.
“My mother packed it,” he said when he shared more of the salt-covered blackberries. “It would be a waste not to share it.”
Sitting around the fire with them, he fit right in despite not looking much like a warrior. If anything, his attire, decorated with trinkets that had to stem from various planets, reminded Ahsoka of a traveler. But if she were to believe his stories, he must be quite the fighter. Ahsoka knew that more and more pirates were growing powerful and influential without Coruscant’s oversight, but she hadn’t known that the other sects had stepped up to deal with it. She wondered if the Council knew. Though, Obi-Wan hadn’t seemed surprised by it, so they were probably aware.
“So, do you not carry a lightsaber?” Ticker, one of the younger clones, asked. “I only see your blasters. I didn’t know Jedi carried those.”
“The Coruscant sect doesn’t,” Anakin agreed and then turned to Ahsoka. “Though, I think you’re still all taught how to? I know Obi-Wan’s wickedly good with a sniper rifle.”
“Of course,” Ahsoka replied quickly. She got her blaster sessions with the best marksmen of the 212th, who all ensured she should be fine if she ever lost her lightsaber.
Not that Ahsoka was planning on it.
“Right, my Order carries blasters additionally to our lightsabers.” He moved his robes and revealed his lightsaber. “I just keep it a little more hidden away. It makes it easier to work sometimes if people don’t see from a mile away that you’re a Jedi.”
Ahsoka found herself agreeing with him. It made sense and she knew that there had been at least five missions that would have been easier if their target hadn’t immediately spotted that she was a lightsaber. She knew that her Order carried the blades openly purposefully so that they could be easily identified, they had to be as they were an officially recognized member of the Republic, but Quinlan and Aayla didn’t. Most Covenant Jedi actually didn’t, ensuring they could do their work in the shadows. Occasionally, Ahsoka wondered whether she was supposed to know so much about how they operated, or if that was just a benefit of Obi-Wan being close friends with Quinlan.
“And where’s the difference between your… everything and the General’s?”
“Don’t ask me for details,” Anakin said. “Haven’t had one of those discussions in a while, but our differences aren’t that huge. Most of the differences stem from the Republic backing of the Coruscant sect, I think. The members of my Order just also carry blasters and fight entirely submerged in the Force. We also don’t really do missions, which sucks for budgeting because we still have to get funding, and just go wherever the Force takes us. We don’t really have the numbers to provoke the big changes, that’s more up Coruscant’s or Corellia’s alley. We try to help the small people on the ground and hope the big guys make sure we can leave one planet in safe hands and travel to the next.”
That sounded familiar to Ahsoka. The Coruscant sect was the largest, so they had the most influence, even if too many Senators only played pretend at listening to their suggestions. At least the Chancellor trusted them.
“What do you mean, fight submerged in the Force?” A different clone, Storytime, ever the curious, spoke up. “Is that different from the General and the Commander?”
“Oh! Right.” Anakin laughed. “So basically, we cover our eyes and ears during a fight?”
“You do what?” Cody’s alarmed tone made Ahsoka only snort. She still remembered his attempt at getting Obi-Wan to wear a little more armor by pointing at the Revanchist folks that had accompanied them on one mission.
It had been an absolute train-wreck, but they had managed to succeed. Somehow.
Anakin only grinned in reply and reached for the golden feathers behind his ears. He took them off, revealing that they were not, in fact, feathers, but electronic devices with small buttons.
“I tap these, and they block out any and all noise and cover my eyes. Then I trust the Force to keep me safe and tell me where I need to pay attention.”
“That sounds… risky.” If Ahsoka didn’t know better, she’d say that Cody was having a heart attack. His assessment of that fighting style had been exceedingly polite given that he looked as if he wanted to cuss it out.
Anakin shrugged as if it were no big deal to him and, having grown up in such a way, it probably wasn’t. “It wasn’t that difficult to get used to. I grew up here on Tatooine. The sand and the heat steal away plenty of your senses already.”
“You weren’t raised in your temple then?”
Anakin shook his head. “No, not really. We do have a temple, a rather small one, not even a tenth of Coruscant’s size. We raise children there, but most of the time, everyone is just on their Search.”
He emphasized the last word so that Ahsoka concluded it must be a special ritual that wasn’t like their Search for younglings.
“My Master was on his Search when he found me and since the Force didn’t call him home, he continued to travel with me.”
That sounded like a strange childhood to have. Ahsoka hadn’t known anything of the galaxy but the temple walls and Ilum until Obi-Wan had accepted her as his Padawan. Since then, she had seen plenty of other planets, even if she hadn’t had too much time to appreciate their beauty. She wondered how Anakin had gotten his education. Ahsoka had attended many classes of dozens of teachers in the temple. His childhood didn’t appear to resemble hers a lot, but she could easily picture a small human boy trailing after another masked Jedi, chatting with just the same cheer he was talking now.
“Sounds fascinating,” Storytime breathed.
“Once the war is over, feel free to come to visit us. I know of at least one other Paladin who has attached himself to a Clone squadron and is planning to take them home for a visit at least once.”
“That would be very kind,” Storytime replied.
“No problem.”
Anakin then suddenly turned his head, his motion so rash that the clones instinctually reached for their blasters. Thankfully, they recognized Obi-Wan quickly enough that nobody got hurt accidentally.
Obi-Wan only blinked at them and then sat down next to Anakin. “What a lovely greeting.”
Some of the clones sheepishly packed their blasters away while others just shot back a look that was as dry as Obi-Wan’s words. They were on Tatooine; it made sense to be even more on guard than usual.
“And? What did your Council say?” Anakin asked, handing Obi-Wan a plate with food.
“Coruscant is not taking any responsibility for any outside agents who might get involved in this mission,” Obi-Wan replied, the flow of his words so steady that he had to be reciting the words of another.
“That’s council speak for ‘let him do whatever he wants’, right?”
Obi-Wan paused with his meal to confirm his question. “Yes, Anakin, that means you can do whatever you want. But if you get invited by the Republic for a hearing, we’re not backing you up either.”
“Yes, yes, I had expected nothing else from you sticker-to-the-rules Coruscanti.”
“Says the head-in-the-clouds Teepo,” Obi-Wan retorted in the same manner, matching Anakin’s intonation, quoting old stereotypes that used to be hurled as insults but have since only become something almost akin to terms of endearments.
“So, when are we going to leave?” Ahsoka asked. She wanted to know if she should go to bed early or prepare herself for a long night.
“Tomorrow before the sun rises,” Obi-Wan said, glancing at Anakin for confirmation.
“Yes, best to leave early on Tatooine. I’d also suggest trying to get some sleep. Negotiations will be exhausting.”
Obi-Wan hummed in agreement. “You know what that means, Ahsoka.”
“Yes, yes.” Ahsoka stood up. “Bedtime for me. I’m not a little youngling anymore, Master. I know when to get my sleep.”
She bid them goodnight and headed back towards the ship, ready to sleep curled up in the small med-station of their transport that was as close to a proper bed as she could get. She didn’t know how much longer her Master and his friend stayed up, but both looked well-rested when she got up the next day. Her Master, perhaps, even a little less exhausted than usual.
