Actually I need to talk about this. I really dislike Chaos Island in Frontiers. I just hate like, the vibe of it. The place has been abandoned for thousands of years, and vegetation made its way there. There should be more! Maybe less so closer to the volcano, but the thing is, volcanic soil is very good for plants!! They should be thriving further away from it!
We could’ve had a more jungle-esque thing, with green patches of forest and brush at the outskirts and some choice places. Perhaps one of those small side islands could’ve been a dense jungle that makes it harder to move!
The plants could be in a vibrant, yellow-tinted green (Like some plants on the island already are), oranges and reds. It would work well with the more bluish and gentle green of Kronos, and the golden sands of Ares. There’d still be dark earth and ash but at least it’d look alive.
AND Sonic would get to reminisce about SA2! Since there was a jungle-covered volcano island as well!
#sonic frontiers#sonic the hedgehog#chaos island just tires me out quickly aesthetic wise#like the volcanic setting is cool as heck#and i love those places with spare vegetation and that weird spring area#but the island is HUGE#you spend so much time on it#so the dark ash desert gets tiring#esp since there was already a desert on ares#which despite having big expansive sands menaged to be quite interesting due to the other tiny biomes#which chaos island doesnt have a lot of#i also hate the name tbh#kronos ares rhea and ouranos sound cool but chaos is just generic#anyway ui hate this section of the game its just a drag cuz again#it gets boring fast#null.txt#OH ALSO fuck the multitude of forced 2d sections#sonic in frontiers feels SO SLOW in the 2d parts#now that i think abt it im just a chaos island hater#i dislike the ambient music as well

MHA Fumikage Tokoyami x Reader x Dark Shadow 🍋 - Curiosity Killed the Crow
Summary: This was your fault for asking too many questions, really. You and Tokoyami had been dating for several months now and it had crossed your mind to ask: did that make Dark Shadow your boyfriend too?
Warnings: porn with plot, selfcest, fem!reader, tokoyami x reader x dark shadow, poly relationship, cum eating, fingering, fish hooking, oral fixation, dirty talk, threesome, masterbation
The question had caught him off guard when you'd asked it so nonchalantly. "Hey so...is Dark Shadow part of oyu or like, a separate entity?"
"I like to think of him as a separate being, we just share the same body and soul." Tokoyami replied, briefly glancing up at you from the book he was reading on the couch. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason," you lied, chopping up vegetables for dinner. "Just crossed my mind the other day while I was at work."
"Well, I hope that answer is sufficient." He nodded, setting the book down and standing up to join you in the kitchen. "Anything else on your mind, dove?"
"I was just wondering... does that make me Dark Shadow's girlfriend too?" you pondered, missing how he froze behind you. He hadn't thought of it that way.
"I-I'm not sure, to be quite honest." He answered, glancing away awkwardly. "Do you want it to be that way?"
"I don't guess I'd be opposed to it," you shrugged, not giving it the same level of thought as he was. "Does he even have senses like that?"
"I don't know," he repeated, distracting his racing thoughts by putting away the dishes you'd washed before starting dinner. "He has likes and dislikes, he can feel pain and pleasure, so..."
"You mean like sexual pleasure?" you blurted so nonchalantly it gave him chills. "Or like the pleasure you get from eating something tasty? I know he likes sweets."
"I-I really don't know, dove." he blushed, unsure of how to answer any of your questions. "I've never asked and he's never told me so..."
"I'm sorry, 'Yami," you apologized sheepishly, giving him a sympathetic grin. "I didn't mean to make it weird, we can drop it."
-----
Needless to say, for the next week, your questioning riled Tokoyami up significantly, and he could feel his other half stir within him. After an admittedly quite awkward conversation with the entity, he promised himself the matter would get sorted when you came to his apartment for the night next.
-----
"Hey, Toko, I'm here!" you called, slipping into the apartment, and kicking the door behind you as your hands were full. "I picked up dinner on the way home, hope you're in the mood for pork cutlet!"
You blinked at the stillness of the apartment as you set everything down on the island, kicking out of your shoes by the door before heading deeper inside. "'Yami?" you called out, inching toward the bedroom, freezing in the doorway.
His bedroom was barely different from how it typically was, aglow with ambient candles and soft purple neon lights, gothic music playing quietly from a record player in the corner. What was different was the way he lounged on the bed, fully clothed, but scandalous way, void colored button up undone to his toned stomach with silver chains hanging against his chest. He wore matching slacks and polished loafers, much to your surprise. Tokoyami was typically such a stickler for not wearing shoes indoors, which meant he was wearing them, for a reason. He was dressed up for you, presenting his best self like all birds do.
The part of his peacocking that really intrigued you, however was how his vermillion stare never left you, seemingly trained on you before you'd even arrived. That and the way his calloused hand palmed his crotch, painted nails getting lost in the inky shadows on his slacks, and thick pewter watch catching the moonlight. "Welcome home, my dove."
"T-Tokoyami...?" you stuttered, knees quaking as you waited in the doorway like a deer stuck in the high beams of a truck. "W-What are you...?"
"Come forth, my love," he beckoned poetically, prompting your to naturally gravitate towards him. "How was work?" He asked, ignoring you, simply pulling you into him gently, making you sit down with him, rubbing your shoulders. "Hard day?"
"I-It was fine..." you replied, melting at his touch, moaning as he worked the knots from your neck. "I brought dinner... I didn't feel like cooking so I got us something on the way."
"So generous, my lark," He cooed, nuzzling his beak into hair, preening your locks. "Always thinking of others..."
"I-I guess..." you shrugged, embarrassed of the sudden praise, tickled slightly when his beak dragged against your nape.
"Such a sweet darling," your boyfriend hummed, grooming you lovingly. "We've missed you so much this week..."
"Raven..." you whispered, melting against him before tensing once more. "W-We? D-Did you invite someone else over?" you asked, the color draining from your face. "I-I don't know if I'm comfortable with-"
"Dark Shadow and I have been... talking about what you asked last week." He finally confessed, fingers running through your hair. "And we both agree that, if it were the will of her highness..." he smirked, nudging you from behind. "We'd like to share..."
You were speechless, wondering if this was real or a fantasy come to life. You had to admit, you'd always thought of his quirk being involved but you never thought it'd even be on the table, let alone handed to you on a silver platter. "Of course, the decision is yours, my lark."
"A-Alright..." you finally piped up, nodding. "I-I'd like to try..."
Tokoyami released a low, dark chuckle into your ear as his other half began to materialize from his back. "Divine..."
-----
"Fumi, look how she squirms..." Dark Shadow squealed with delight, abyssal claws squeezing your wrists as he pinned you to the bed. "So cute..."
"Don't tell me," Tokoyami laughed from between your thighs. "Tell her, she's yours now too, you know."
"Right, I keep forgetting..." The entity purred, face dipping into the crook of your neck, nipping at your flesh. "You're so, so cute, baby..." You writhed under their touch, Tokoyami's fingers working on digging an orgasm out of your core as he nipped softly at your plush thighs, coupled with Dark Shadow's relentless teasing. It was entirely too much for you and neither one of them seemed to care.
"A-Ah, fuck..." you cried, overstimulated tears slipping down your cheeks and being absorbed by the shadow as your hips bucked upwards against your first lover's face.
"Keep going, Fumi," the staticky voice teased. "I think she might cum right into your hand."
"You think she could?" Tokoyami replied, digging deeper, curled fingers grazing that special spot that made you see stars.
"Mhm," the abyss chirped against your throat, working his way down to your naked chest. Clawed hands settled on your upper stomach, shaking up and down as he giggled at the way your breasts bounced on your ribcage. "Can you do that, pretty girl? Can you cum on Fumi's hand for us?"
"T-Trying-!" you shrieked through gritted teeth. "W-Wanna so bad, Shadow!" Both of your boyfriends shivered at your words, reveling in your willingness to call the quirk out specifically by name. Your blissful cries made him feel so individual, like his own separate person.
"C'mon, princess, you can do it," Dark Shadow purred, indigo teeth nibbling at your earlobe as he talked you through it. "You like getting fucked on Fumi's fingers, don't you?" you simply nodded in response, mouth hanging open and eyes screwed shut as you chased your orgasm. "Oh, baby, I know you do. Look how well she takes your abuse, Fumi."
You couldn't take it anymore, vision going white as an embarrassingly lewd, cracky scream ripped from your drooly and kiss bitten lips. "That's it, dove," Tokoyami sighed, sore fingers never faltering through the strain as your hips rolled against them. "Ride it out, there you go, such a good girl for us."
"There she is," Shadow commented with delight, taking in the way your body quaked and face distorted. "Right into his hand, so perfect, yeah, baby..." He praised, pressing his beak to your forehead as a reward for hold out for him.
-----
"Shhh, we'll be gentle," the entity promised, wrapping around your torso so you could lean your back to his chest as Tokoyami kneeled over you both. "We'll do all the work, you just gotta lay here and take it, 'kay, sweetness?" You nodded, exhausted, looking up at the crow with droopy eyes. The way he stroked himself looked delicious, but having just come down from your own high, you were in no kind of shape to savor it.
You laid limp in Dark Shadow's arms, his abyssal claws kneading at your breast while his beak nipped into your shoulder from behind. "You look so divine, my love..." the raven cooed down to you, ruby eyes begging you for satisfaction. "Doesn't she, Shadow?"
"So pretty, so soft..." the entity answered with a soft chuckle. "Especially these titties and this tummy..." he added, groping the excess on your body. "Love having all this in my hands..."
Humiliation, exhaustion, and overstimulation dropped your chin to your collarbone, tearing away the sweet eye contact that had your pro hero boyfriend on the ropes. "No, darling, look at me, please..." he begged, having been well on his way. "Shadow, help her..."
Delighted to help, clawed hands roamed up your body, one settling under your chin to keep your head up, and the other settled in your hair, gently clenching a fistful to angle your head properly. "Awe, I know you're sleepy, sweets, but you have to help Fumi get there too. You wanna be a good girl, don't you?"
"M-Mhm..." was all you could choke out, mouth hung open as he squeezed your cheeks together. Your eyes fluttered open to see Tokoyami unravelling above you, his head falling back in bliss before returning his gaze back to you.
"Fuck, yes, light, that's it..." he sighed, fucking into his hand, leaning his pelvis in closer. It was this, coupled with the way Shadow's hands shifted to cup your cheeks, that made you realize what they wanted.
"Stick out that cute little tongue..." The abyss ordered playfully, pinching the tip of it between his thumb and index finger, pulling it out further. "So slobbery..." he mused, letting it go as he reached out to his host, who licked your saliva off his fingertips.
"A-Ah, fuck-!" Tokoyami grunted sharply, overcoming another wall, bringing him closer to climax. "O-Open up, lark..."
Dark Shadow's two index fingers then hooked into your cheeks like he was catching a fish, using his knuckles to force your top jaw wide while his middle fingers did the same to the bottom. "Say 'ahhh'..." he purred into your ear.
"A-Ahhh!" you tried to mimic, cheeks burning at how the thing laughed at your pathetic, muffled attempt.
"Say 'Please, Fumi, cum on my tongue!'" Shadow continued, relishing in how he position he had your mouth in made your tongue flop out, dripping drool into the spaces between your fingers.
"P-Pleash ch-cum on my chongue!" you slurred, love drunk and needy.
Suddenly, Tokoyami let out a pained grunt, leaning in close as his hips jerked against his closed fist. "A-As you... w-wish, my dove!" he cried as ropes shot out of his swollen bell, landing in your hair and on your face, tits, and tongue.
"Good job, Fumi," Shadow praised, petting your hair soothingly. "And you did so perfectly catching as much as you could, princess." he dragged his fingers across your tongue to remove as much of his host's seed as he could. "Taste good, baby?" You nodded, reveling in the icky feeling of jizz congealing in your lashes, preparing to swallow what of the load made it into your mouth. "Ah ah, don't you swallow that."
Your first lover leaned forward, head tilted and tongue out before he met your lips, initiating a tired but needy make-out that was all slobber and see and tongue as he tried to avoid poking his sharp beak into your plush lips. Before you could even realize what was happening, Tokoyami had eaten his own cum from your mouth, or as much of it as he could.
"How was that, Fumi?" The more playful partner chirped, wiping his hands off on your tummy.
"Divine..." The other heaved, collapsing next to you, pulling your in close.
"Playtime's over?" Shadow asked, a bit saddened to have not been able to climax himself, but then again, he didn't have the ability.
"For now, friend..." the host replied, barely conscious as you were already beginning to drift off. "I-I promise next time, you'll be more involved. We can work on seeing what you can really do in the future..." he swore as his soulmate began to dissipate back within himself, feeling a bit guilty for having all the fun.
"Can't wait to play with sweets again," the entity accepted, now almost totally absorbed into Tokoyami's back. "Goodnight, baby, I love you..."
The crow could help but feel his heart swell at the small confession. Although you'd only been dating for a few months, he had already long since decided he wanted you to be his wife one day, and knowing you and the other part of himself were falling in love meant everything to him. It was a brand new level of acceptance he never thought possible. He had known you were the one but this night only resolidified his belief in that.
"Goodnight, my light..." He purred softly, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead as he snuggled up with you. "I-" He suddenly paused before smiling serenely at you. "We... love you to death and beyond."

🎧 Max verstappen marry bruno mars
A Beautiful Night | M. Verstappen
Summary: Max discovers how much he enjoys referring to you as his future wife when you pretend to be engaged for fun one night.
genre: fluff, no warnings.
wc: 2.1k
celebrate 2k w me :) taglist form masterlist
A gentle breeze flowed through your bedroom windows as the soft morning sun shone. Inhaling deeply, you turned to face the opposite side, away from the natural light that would disturb your slumber, but you were still sound asleep.
Your hand rested on your lover's back, who had tucked his hands underneath his own pillow while lying on his stomach, snoring softly.
You peeled your eyes open and looked at Max with a soft smile spreading across your face. Even after having the chance to wake up next to him every morning for the previous several years, you continued to cherish these early morning moments. It was as though time stood still at that very moment.
You lifted your hand to brush your fingers through his hair since it would always end up a tad too tangled in the mornings. However, as soon as you did, you noticed that the ring you typically wear on your index finger was now placed on your left hand's ring finger.
Furrowing your brows, you turned on your back with your left hand held in front of you. Your eyes narrowed as you sought to figure out why the ring was out of place.
Then, the memories came rushing back to you, causing your jaw to drop as a light chuckle left your mouth.
It's a beautiful night, we're looking
for something dumb to do
It started off with classic bar hopping. An activity you and Max had decided to take upon since you had a free evening with quite a few hours to spare.
Before you entered the first bar of the night, you turned to face Max and slipped a ring from your index to your ring finger. "How many free drinks do you think we can get if we say that we just got engaged?"
Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you
Max laughed at the way you wiggled your fingers to show off the ring. He wasn't opposed to the idea as it would definitely make the evening rather entertaining.
But he still shrugged, "I don't think people are going to buy the story, especially with that ring."
You looked down at it, now adorned on your ring finger. "What's wrong with it?"
Is it the look in your eyes or is it this dancing juice?
He held your hand in his while his thumb grazed over the thin band of white gold studded with lots of smaller diamonds.
"It's not engagement worthy, you know I will get you a much shinier ring."
You slapped his hand away, chuckling, "I know you will, but they don't need to know that." You nodded your head towards the door of the bar, hinting at the potential crowd behind it.
Who cares, baby, I think I wanna marry you
"Then let's find out," he agreed, holding the door open for you as you began the night.
Mingling amid a sizeable group of locals, you had forgotten how many bars you've entered tonight, however the slight sway you had while walking can indicate that the number was slowly increasing.
Well, I know this little chapel on the boulevard we can go
Under ambient lighting, you noticed a crowd of university students joking among themselves in one corner of the bar, and heard the clinks of their glasses mixed with cheers over the background rock music.
This bar had been more crowded than the last few, but you still enjoyed it nonetheless. The buzz running through your body all the way down to the tips of your fingers had quickly made you forget how much you disliked larger crowds.
No one will know, oh, come on girl
You would have felt out of place if not for the friendly locals who have managed to kept you engaged in conversations. But then again, Max would tell you that you were adept at reading the crowd—at least more so than he was sometimes, even while tipsy.
"To celebrate the future married couple, here are some drinks, on the house of course!" On the bar top in front you, the bartender sets a tray with four shot glasses that are filled to the brim with tequila.
As you picked it up, the liquid splashed around a little bit, dripping over the edge and leaving traces of the liquor on your fingertips. You held the glass up in appreciation towards the bartender and then downed the contents inside alongside your lover.
Who cares if we're trashed, got a pocket full
of cash we can blow
You nodded slightly at Max with a teasing smile covered by the next shot of tequila you consumed, knowing that this was another successful attempt at your plan. These free drinks were adding to the ones you had began drinking at the previous bars.
Max watched with a smitten smile as you laughed along with a few other people who had asked to see your ring. Fortunately everyone who asked so far this evening, was a tad too tipsy to question the lack of a bigger diamond, only cheering in giddy happiness for a stranger before buying you both another round of drinks.
Shots of patron and it's on, girl
Once you exited the final bar of the night, the sky's darkness started to disappear, giving way to a paler blue hue that signified the impending sunrise.
Max's arm was resting on your waist as you walked side by side, however it was next to impossible to walk in a straight line. Laughing every time you accidentally bumped into each other, your stomach was now aching but the laugh bubbling up your throat never stopped.
Don't say no, no, no, no, no
"We should do that again," Max commented, and you couldn't help but look at him with a cheeky smile. "Why, you like calling me your fiancée?"
He paused, stopping you from taking another step as well. "If I had a proper ring, I'd get down on one knee right now and make you my fiancée."
Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
"Ring or no ring, my answer will always be yes." You stood in front of him, still facing him and placed your palms on his cheeks.
He gasped and shook his head, "you can't just say yes before I propose."
You chuckled at his antics, "why not?"
Max grasped on to your hand that adorned the ring, quickly sliding it off and holding on to it. "If you're going to say yes, let me at least propose."
And we'll go, go, go, go, go
He took a step back and almost stumbled over his own feet, causing you to let out a gasp in regard to his safety before it turned into laughter that echoed throughout the empty streets.
His eyes crinkled at the corners as he watched you laugh, knowing the decision he was about to make would be the best thing he'd ever do in his entire life. Although he knew that he loved you endlessly and would never be able to imagine his future without you in it, tonight he realized that there was no reason to waste any more time to ask you the question that's been on his mind for a few months now.
He kneeled down on one knee and made a makeshift ring box with his hands, with the ring lying flat on his palm.
If you're ready, like I'm ready
Your eyes widened when he looked ready to give a short speech, your words leaving your mouth in a rushed manner. "Max, baby, are you seriously doing this now?"
He nodded, "I already knew that I wanted you to be my wife, to be my future, and tonight seems to be fitting in a way."
You placed your hands over your heart once he started off by saying your full name, slightly slurring over a few syllables due to the alcohol still buzzing in his system.
'Cause it's a beautiful night, we're looking
for something dumb to do
"I need you to know that you're everything to me, mijn liefje. I don't think I can spend a single day without you and I don't even want to know if I can. Ik hou van jou, and I will keep loving you until my last breath. Will you, the woman who owns my heart, marry me and make me the happiest man in the world?"
You began nodding before he could finish his speech, making his smile wider. "Yes," you still stated.
He held his hand out waiting for you to place yours in his palm which you obliged to easily. After sliding the ring on your finger, he stood up and immediately pulled you closer by his grasp on your waist, capturing your lips with his.
"I love you, my future husband," you mumbled against his lips, earning a light chuckle from him before he responded with just as much enthusiasm. "I love you more, my future wife."
Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you
Due to your shuffling about in bed, Max's eyes fluttered open before closing again as his eyes hadn't adjusted to the light yet. With his eyes remaining shut, his arms found your waist, sliding his body right next to yours.
His lips grazed your ear, and he muttered, "good morning, Mrs. Verstappen.”
You bit your tongue to keep a smile from forming on your face since you couldn't help but correct him: "Future Mrs. Verstappen."
"We can go to the chapel down the street and make it official," he suggested, blinking away the signs of sleep from his eyes as he turned to hover over you.
Is it the look in your eyes or is it this dancing juice?
You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer with a smile gracing your face and eyes twinkling with delight, "that eager?"
Leaning closer to you, he placed a peck to your cheek. "I proposed to you while we were drunk, completely trashing my previous plan, of course I'm eager."
"You had a plan?" You asked, shocked by the piece of information he dropped casually.
Who cares, baby, I think I wanna marry you, oh
He groaned due to his own slip of the tongue as he rested his face in the crook of your neck. When he didn't respond any further than that, you threaded your fingers through his hair and urged him to show you his face.
With a sheepish smile on his face, he admitted, "I might've."
"Tell me," you prompted but earned a shake of his head, "I can't."
Don't say no, no, no, no, no
"You already proposed, you don't need to hide it anymore," you reminded him, bringing your left hand in between your bodies to admire the sentiment behind your ring.
Max leaned his body weight on one of his forearms to free his other hand so he could grasp onto yours. Bringing it closer to his lips, he pressed a kiss on your ring.
"What makes you think I won't do it properly again?" He asked with a sly smile, pressing another kiss to the back of your hand.
Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You hummed, knowing Max well enough to have an idea that he would do something private yet extravagant. "I don't think it works like that, I already said yes."
"Well, you can say yes again."
Sighing, he rested his back on the bed, laying an arm across your pillow and with a gesture of his fingers, you shuffled closer to him. Resting your left hand on his chest, both of you looked at it, admiring the symbol of your future.
Then you huffed, "are you seriously not going to tell me?"
And we'll go, go, go, go, go
His response was immediate, clicking his tongue, "nope."
You turned away from him; away from the warmth of his body and into the torture of the sun shining directly in your eyes. But you didn't budge, only muttering, "I don't like you," in his direction.
If you're ready, like I'm ready
It took him less than two seconds to adjust his body and cuddle you, engulfing your smaller figure. His arm wrapped around your waist, while his other hand found the perfect spot to keep the sun from stinging your eyes.
"I love you too, sweetheart," he murmured in your ear, aware that your previous remarks lacked sincerity.
'Cause it's a beautiful night, we're looking for
something dumb to do
Your frown faded into a slight smile, but you didn't turn to face him because you were now in a comfortable position.
You placed your hand over his, which was resting on your waist, and interlaced your fingers, ready for a future with him.
Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you

♫ party monster - the weeknd
It wasn’t her first time attending one of the boys’ parties, she’d been going since they joined the university. It was never any different though, the same music, the same games, rarely any new faces but when you’ve got alcohol in your system you never notice anyway. She completely understood why people loved the parties though, after a week of uni it was the one place for some people to escape to an entirely different world, each room had its vibe and you just gravitated to yours. Or chameleon through them all, which is what she did with her friends because they liked to make the most of a potentially messy night.
Getting into the parties was the hard part, they were picky due to their seniors mentoring. You had to be directly invited, and luckily, she was. Growing up with Yunho and Mingi wasn’t so bad after all, they were the ones to thank for the inclusion, but she got on with the others just as well.
Y/n sat outside in one of the plastic garden chairs, also known as Yeosang’s smoke circle. Yeosang was serenity in human form, his personality was on the quieter side, and he’d recently dyed his hair a neon green after losing a bet but looks could be deceiving, he had a notorious streak for coming out with the most outrageous sentences and shots targeted at Wooyoung. Despite his company, she hadn’t taken a drag of anything. It’s not that y/n disliked the vibe, she very much cherished it, despite the face of thunder she donned at that moment, swirling the booze in her cup. Hand rested under chin, elbow on her knee while this girl she – and the others – had never seen before in her life complained about the noise and smell protruding from the house. The girl being oblivious to the side-eyes, and the sweet aroma of weed and suffocating fumes of cigarettes indicated that none of them were listening to anything she was rambling on about. Yeosang took a heavy drag from his joint, giving y/n a pained look.
“If you hate it so much, fucking leave.” She spat, throwing the rest of her drink over her before walking inside, listening to the circle giggle and the girl yell out ‘bitch!’.
Sliding the back door open and stepping in, her senses were violently hit by the living room’s blaring music, which she liked to call the club zone. It’s where the speakers were located, sofas moved to the sides to create a dance floor and where you’d find Wooyoung and Mingi bouncing around in the ambient lighting. That room moved in slow motion, and very much did for y/n when she weaved her way through it to the kitchen, which was quieter, with an orange lowlight and the island littered with cups and various bottles and pleasantly, a Yunho blissfully pouring himself another cup of beer with rosy cheeks.
“Hey, n/n!” he piped, taking a sip from his cup before leaning his hip against the counter, “You okay?”
She nodded with a small smile, standing next to him, “Refilling. Threw mine over sourpuss over there.” She pointed out the kitchen window, to the girl who had moved from Yeosang to another group of people, presumably still complaining but now about the fact y/n had thrown cider over her. Yunho chuckled, it being contagious until both were releasing tipsy giggles while sipping fresh drinks. Yunho was tall, reaching over six feet and loomed over her, his eyes almost puppy-like and soft.
“Never seen her before, and neither I nor Mingi invited her, and going by Yeo’s face, he didn’t.” He joked, watching the rest of the people outside.
“Nah, Yeo didn’t. He wanted me to get rid of her. You think San or Woo did? Joong’s definitely out of the picture, I’ve seen him actively avoid her. Speaking of, where is Joong?”
Yunho pointed to the games room, which you could just about see from the kitchen window. It was more like an old garage they’d turned into a games room with a singular window. From where they stood, Jongho’s figure moved past it.
“In there with Jongho. Mr. I-won’t-drink-tonight pre’d too hard and got roped into beer pong from the beginning. Jongho’s being relentless, it’s nice seeing him have fun.”
“Yeah, and fucking hilarious seeing Joong on the ropes. Thank God it’s Sunday he’ll be hungover on.”
In what was supposed to be a quick refill turned into shots with Yunho and because of that decision, y/n found herself being twirled by him on the ‘dance floor’. The living room was always hot, sweaty, drunk bodies bumping and grinding into each other, music so loud her ears just blocked it into a silence, and it was just her in the moment, in another headspace with whatever drink flowing in her system. Her friends were long gone, which was fine, they’d been in that house before, they knew most of the people there and had their ‘if lost go here’ areas. Besides, Yunho wouldn’t let anything happen to y/n, they had a solid friendship, a siblingship at most.
Eyes bored into the back of her head, she felt the presence too well, it was too familiar. Mingi, slouched on one of the sofas with his legs spread and eyes squinting a primal gaze, watching her every move. His hands loosely sat on his thighs, as if he was giving the memo that he was not anyone’s seat, not that he ever sat down enough for girls to drape themselves over him. But this time he sat to watch.
Yunho leant into her ear, “I’m gonna spin us, I can feel daggers into my soul right now.” And he did casually, twirling her again to switch places. Y/n’s eyes briefly fell into Mingi’s trap, a couple of seconds feeling like an eternity again when falling into his eyes. She missed it. Missed the butterflies of drowning in someone, getting lost peacefully, and having someone feel so passionate about her.
“Yunho, what do I do? He’s getting up, it’s been so long-“ she stammered, eyes widening upon catching a glance of Mingi weaving through the crowd, ignoring everyone who tried taking his attention with the gaze of a predator hunting its prey. Yunho giggled, slipping away.
For a split second, she was alone, watching the room sway around her and a white noise fill her ears, body numb as the world fell into slow motion. The way he moved with his confidence, chest out and eyesight on her, no smile. Cheap disco lights doing him too much justice, the blue haze bouncing off his cheekbones, a soft glint in his eyes and sparkle bouncing off the chain that sat sound on his collarbone. Y/n’s eyes flickered his stature, up and down, from his t-shirt that wrapped snug around his chest down to his jeans that hung off his hips in a way that shouldn’t have flipped her stomach the way it did. She swallowed, a thumping in her chest and head still in a slow pace until her hips were firmly gripped in large palms, hot breath in her space and his eyes softening as they caught hers. As if by default, she placed her hands on his chest – intimate but cautious and prepared to reject him – and his lips found their way to her ear.
“You still light up the room.” His voice was deeper than the last time he’d whispered his sins in her ears. Not a nibble, not a kiss, no unasked-for contact. Just like back then. Just two bodies swaying in a rhythm in comfort.
“Were you jealous?”
“…maybe. Haven’t seen you in a while, thought you were avoiding me. Then I see you cosied up with my best friend, what man wouldn’t be?”
“And why would I avoid you?” Her questions lingered in the thick air. Tingles ran through her nerves as Mingi’s thumbs traced small circles over the fabric of her shorts, his favourite denim shorts that sent him back to adolescent afternoons in the summer, where they drank cheap beer at family barbecues. One hand slid itself over the curve of her spine until it drew itself away and cupped her jaw gently, holding her like his precious treasure, like she was his again. Nuzzling into his palm, she looped one finger under his necklace, toying with it until their eyes met once again. Mingi’s breath hitched, air knocked from his lungs under the familiarity of the gesture.
“Come, I want you to myself tonight.” The rumble of his voice vibrated her fingertips, flushing heat down her body and hitting her pussy all over again. His voice was too sexy to think straight, the determination that ran through his eyes bringing back a reason why she loved him in the first place. Y/n nodded, taking his hand on her cheek into her own and letting the man guide her through the bodies and towards the staircase.
People go through phases as they grow older, but the way Mingi’s room still had his favourite music producer’s posters stuck over his walls gave his space a warmth to it. It did smell like Lynx Africa, it still seemed to have curtains drawn shut and although they sat against the headboard on unmade grey sheets, it all still screamed Mingi. Their shoes lay scattered on the floor, the music from downstairs muffled in the silence as their thighs pressed together and hands awkwardly played with their clothing.
Mingi’s eyes softly gazed down at her features, at her eyelashes she always complained about, down her nose bridge to her pouted lips he’d first kissed at her best friend’s birthday when they were sixteen.
Her breath rattled, voice deeper in the silence, “I missed you, y’know.” His gaze remained on her face, as he’d never seen anything as beautiful since last seeing her. Y/n’s cheeks flushed, unbeknownst under the lowlight but regardless her chest swelled, like a hole inside her started patching itself together suddenly.
Y/n’s head hesitantly turned to look up at him, taken aback when her eyes met his so soon, noses barely touching. She licked her lips, “Me too. My friends talked so much shit for ages, but I had nothing bad to say about you,” she chuckled with a slight smirk, “I think they were just rooting for us deep down and hurting more than we were.”
“Oh yeah? How so?” he murmured, shifting slightly to face her more, shoulder leaning on the headboard.
She shifted with him, facing him too but still with a closeness that they could hear even a whisper from each other. Her hand slid to his, her fingers tracing over his chunky rings, “We were sixteen-seventeen. At the time we didn’t even know which university we wanted to go to, we didn’t know anything.” Her heart pulsed in her chest, if it weren’t for the volume downstairs she was sure he would hear it. Mingi’s throat felt dry, a restless feeling in his legs as the soft touches of her fingers on his skin lit the fireworks in his stomach.
His arm wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her body into his side while she cosied up onto his chest, his hand finding home on her hip. She slipped her hand into his, intertwining their fingers. It felt wrong, so wrong to be cuddled up with an ex-boyfriend, but at the same time, the comfort of having heartbeats fall in sync spoke more words than she ever could.
“I don’t regret dating you,” she whispered, taking in a whiff of his cologne and she smiled, even after all those years, he never changed. “Sometimes I wish we hadn’t called it off, I really liked you.”
His grip pulled her tighter into his body, “I know. I hate my younger self. You were the best girlfriend anyone could’ve asked for, so attentive and thoughtful, you were full of so much love. And I made you fucking cry, and then people wouldn’t look at me and my friends got involved when they shouldn’t have. And we never spoke again.” The words tumbled from his mouth and breathing became shaky. The exact scene of the moment once again replayed in his head, the exact moment he saw her eyes gloss over and her lip tremor on a Friday afternoon in mid-November when they were seventeen. Now, it was him whose eyes watered, his free hand gently holding her cheek as she relaxed into his palm. God, it felt so wrong, it’d been so long and here they were, acting as if no time had passed at all.
“Min…”
“I cried that night. Cried like a baby to my mum about what I did. I’ve regretted it ever since…” He leant in, drawing their faces closer, lips ghosting. Y/n’s tummy flipped, tongue darting to moisten her lips. His eyes flickered to her lips, her eyes boring into his, waiting for his decision. Her hand (the one not gripping his), hooked a finger around his chain roughly, pulling him close and closing the ever-long space between them. Goosebumps ran along her skin in a shockwave, the kiss finally setting his inner fireworks exploding beautiful colours within him. Slow, and sweet. But also short, they pulled back with time.
“We were stupid,” she exhaled, his hand moved to cup the back of her neck, “c’mere.” Their lips melted into one another’s like putty, teeth chattering but hands finding their ways to keep the other close. Y/n’s hands balled his t-shirt into fists, Mingi’s fingers tugging the roots on her hair and pulling her body onto his lap, thighs straddling his own while their tongues lapped, and saliva leaked down the corners of their mouths. The taste of cheap alcohol wasn’t enough to repulse, the raw taste of each other made up all the night they lay awake, hopelessly waiting for a goodnight text that would never arrive.
Pulling back with a string of saliva, they panted, giggling ever so slightly. Mingi’s hands fell to her thighs, tracing shapes on the bare skin while hers squeezed his shoulders, fingertips dipping into the ripples of his muscles. She yelped, his hands squeezed her thighs and lips dove straight into her neck, leaving wet, open-mouthed kisses up to her ear and down to the collarbone, finger sliding the strap of her tank top off her shoulder. Despite biting her lip, a soft moan slipped from her throat, his teeth nipping ever so slightly at the skin.
“No marks-“
“-I know, baby. Only in places you can hide them.” His voice vibrated on the column of her neck, heat pooling straight to her cunt and throbbing. Baby. Baby. That came from his mouth for her. He pulled away, opening his mouth slightly only for her to take his jaw into her palms and push him back into the headboard, slipping her tongue hard into his mouth and knocking the air from his lungs. Somewhere between a growl and a moan rumbled from his throat, hands holding a bruising grip on her hips as she made an experimental roll of her hips into his dick.
Shit.
Mingi bit her bottom lip, not hard enough for blood but enough to convey his attempt for dominance. God forbid y/n make him wither to pieces, that’s easy defeat. She rolled her hips again, feeling his cock grow hard in his jeans. Fuck his own body for betraying him.
Drawing back ever so slightly, pressing their foreheads together with hot, tangled breaths and hazy eyes, she giggled at his expression: a lost puppy whining for affection, big, beautiful eyes all glossy.
Her body adjusted to sit on his thigh, never breaking their eye contact as her lips tugged into a smirk. Her finger traced along his jaw slowly, with a featherweight to it, to his chin until disconnected entirely to place her hand over his crotch, palming his painfully solid cock.
He threw his head back, squeezing his eyes shut and mouth threatening to let a whimper slip with every grope.
“Mmm, feels nice, doesn’t it?” she teased, grinding down on his thigh, the friction igniting an intoxicating sensation between her legs, “But you did make me cry. So, I think you owe me.” She pulled her hand off him, clutching his shoulders again to swing her leg over and off him. Fumbling with the button of her shorts, y/n hooked her fingers around the waist, wiggling the item of clothing down her legs, panties with them.
“You’re a pretty thing.” He muttered ears tinted pink and the throbbing of his cock almost becoming unbearable. She slung her leg over his thigh again, slowly lowering her cunt onto his jeans, hands firm on his broad shoulders and scrunching his t-shirt. Mingi’s hands held her hips with a soft touch, feeling the bare skin of her thighs as she rocked lazily, lulling her head back when the warm fabric caressed her clit, the attention clearing her mind. With a dark glaze coating his eyes, his lips met her neck with short, hot breaths and sloppy kisses leaving spit along her skin in their wake. “Doin’ s’well.”
Her stomach fluttered when he flexed his thigh, her pussy dragging along his jeans and arousal leaving dark patches along the fabric. Her breathing shuddered the more she rolled her hips, moving from a slow pace to a faster one, her stomach twisted and turned at the pleasure filling her senses, Mingi’s kissing and nipping along her skin only guiding the build-up in arousal.
“Mingi…” she moaned, tilting her head to allow him more access.
“God you’re so fucking hot when you say my name,” he smirked into her neck, squeezing her thighs.
“Mingi, Mingi,” she whimpered his name like a mantra, feeling her core throb as she ground her hips at a sloppier pace, “Mingi!”
“That’s it, baby, pretty pussy’s doin’ s’well.”
“M’gonna cum-“
“-cum, make a mess, y/n. Show me how I make you feel.” Gripping his jaw with her hand, she forced him to look her in the eyes and watch her whine with every rock of her hips, his chest hammering at the way her moans slipped through her lips, like a song he’d play on repeat. Never did he expect to be back with her, let alone sit on his bed, tangled in each other like nothing ever happened. Like they were still in love.
Y/n was shocked that she’d given in to a man, let alone bask in the sensation of her pussy clenching around nothing but seeing him get so worked up over her soaking his clothes. He looked so hot with pink cheeks, frustrated at her bare cunt in front of him, one he couldn’t rut his cock into.
“Fuck! I’m so close, Min.” her grip on his jaw tightened, crashing their lips, and emitting a low but desperate moan from the boy. He bounced his leg slightly, goosebumps running along her skin. He flexed his thigh again, grinning wide like he was enjoying it more than she was, when she cried out, releasing his jaw, and dropping her head into his shoulder, the coil in her stomach winding tighter until her legs trembled. His thumbs rubbed circles over her hips, helping her ride out her orgasm, relishing in having the honour of having her mess treacle over his jeans.
“So fucking hot,” he kissed her hair, looping his arms around her waist and pulling her limp body into his chest, laying back on his bed, “did s’well.” Y/n hummed, nuzzling into the crook of his neck. Despite the smell of sex and sweat coaxing their skins, his cologne still allowed her muscles to relax in comfortable silence, just the sound of their panting in the room. They say that the further you are, the closer you become—right person, wrong time, all that. Y/n and Mingi were just that as they lay on the bed, of his ratty frat house with his friends and a collective of almost strangers below them in their romantic tragedies (or comedies). Feeling his fingers trace delicate heart patterns on her back, she smiled and placed a warm, gentle kiss on his cheek before catching his gentle gaze. A look only a man who was in love could give.

You're a gift to all the moneyless systems out there and I bless you 🙏
A kraken alter who is completely genderless + ageless, is a protector during VERY bad situations and is also a gatekeeper and inner self helper? Limited in empathy and just a little bit unsettling :)
🌊 HEADMATE TEMPLATE 👁️
✦ Name(s): Khlexkax, Thelius, Marianas ✦ Pronouns: it/its, x/xs/xself, te/ter/ters/terself, ot/ots/otself ✦ Species: kraken ✦ Age: ageless ✦ Role(s): protector, gatekeeper, internal self helper ✦ Labels: gendervoid, aroace ✦ Xenos: the ocean, the void, darkness ✦ Interests/likes: the deep ocean, outer space ✦ Dislikes: people it perceives as dangerous ✦ Music taste: drone metal, dark ambient, lowercase music ✦ Aesthetic(s): weirdcore, voidcore ✦ Kins: eldritch, angler fish, demons ✦ Emoji proxy: 🌊👁️ ✦ Details:
Khlexkax is a kraken with a lack of empathy, as well as a general lack of fear, and is completely comfortable fronting during very bad, very stressful situations. Khlexkax has an unsettling demeanor both inside and outside the system, and if there are any situations where the system needs to intimidate somebody to protect themselves, Khlexkax will happily do that for them. Khlexkax's lack of fear and empathy also translates to a general calm and balanced demeanor. This makes it good at offering internal help to the other members of the system, as well as controlling who fronts especially in stressful situations.
[These can be edited and changed as needed, and headmates will almost definitely not turn out EXACTLY as described.]

Hello! We'd like to make a request for a headmate template!
There's a species one of our headmates remembers from their timeline - it's called a starsinger, and it's an alien whose consciousness originates in outer space but is drawn towards planets that have music on them and takes a form based on a song. We'd like one of "Moonlight Drive" by the Doors! (Although if you know any other songs by the Doors, please feel free to incorporate inspirations from those too! As well as any knowledge or vibes you have about psychedelic rock.)
I imagine them as having had a timeline where they came to Earth (specifically California) in 1968 (the year after the song came out) and got involved with music, either playing in bands and/or as a music reviewer/journalist. We would also like if they'd had period-typical addictions but recovered from them and now has a system role that has to do with managing addiction recovery, since that applies to us in this life.
They'd be an age slider whose youngest age is 21 (the age that starsingers are when they take form on Earth) and whose oldest age is the age someone who was young in the 60s/70s would be now. Other roles we'd like them to have include interest holder (for classic rock/music in general - they like older music the best but want to learn about all music) and socializer (or at least have them be pretty social; we go to concerts and karaoke a lot and I think an alter like this would enjoy that).
Feel free to give them non-binary genders/neopronouns, interests/aesthetics that fit the time period, and some connection to space (including the moon, I'm sure they loved seeing the moon landing). For orientation, we'd like them to be asexual and not romantically interested in binary women, ideally some kind of aro-spec. Also objectum for musical instruments and/or music itself!
Thank you for your time!
Name(s): Apollo, Ranger
Age: Age Slider (21-55)
Species: Starsinger
Kin(s): Musickin (general)
Pronouns: they/them, ne/nymph, rock/rocks, stone/stones, dream/dreams, moon/moons, luna/lunas, star/stars
Gender(s): Bassguitagender, endversic, moonguardilyrical
Orientation: Asexual polyromantic aliquaromantic, soundrum, music box objectum, guitarum
Other: Harmonic Attraction, electric guitar soundstelic
Role(s): Interest Holder, Musicnaut, Addiction Manager
Likes: looking at NASA photos, stargazing, concerts, singing, karaoke, space
Dislikes: Complete silence (the kind where absolutely no noise is going on, including ambient noise)
Sign-Off: 🌓🎸
Description: Often will attend social music related events such as karaoke, open mic nights, and concerts and engage with the people there. Really enjoys talking to other people about their music tastes and learning about the history behind each genre. Has a very diverse music taste, but prefers classic rock and stuff from their time period. Their style often includes dark blues and purples, sometimes also using brighter colors as accessories in order to intimidate space. They're very kind and understanding to others. Uses their experience from their addiction recovery experience to help the rest of the system manage current addiction recovery. Rants to others regarding facts about space, and keeps up with astronomy news.

Hello there, and welcome! 😊
Link to masterlist
I'm a male alien INFJ (at least, I strongly suspect it) who descended in this mortal realm in the year of 1998. I have a little bit of writing experience, though I wouldn't call it a proper hobby...
After the idea floated around my mind for a while now, I decided to give a try to writing headcanons/short fics, specifically for Genshin Impact (with now a bit of Honkai Star Rail), with a particular focus on comfort/fluff.
I got inspired to do this after seeing how often I would turn to comfort or fluff content on tumblr, as a way to cope with the void of loneliness (sometimes overthinking too). As such, why not add my own contribution... as long as it can, hopefully, provide some relief to one person out there.
Asks are open (anon allowed) for requests and chatting (and DMs for chatting if you feel like it) 👀
Please read all the rules first though!
Universes I can write for
Genshin Impact
Honkai Star Rail
Characters I feel rather confident to write for
Genshin Impact
Kamisato Ayaka
Yae Miko
Fischl
Furina (before or after 4.2 archon quest)
Lumine (with or without Paimon)
Honkai Star Rail
Ruan Mei
Here below, characters I may possibly write for
I'm not as confident regarding them, so "ask at your own risks", I suppose. For those I didn't mention, I'm not against writing for them... Maybe, I can actually write them well, and I just don't know it yet 🙃
Genshin Impact
Zhongli
Neuvillette
Sangonomiya Kokomi
Nahida (strictly platonic and SFW, obviously)
Chiori
Navia
Albedo
Nilou
Charlotte
Yanfei
Amber
Wanderer
Beidou
Lisa
Arataki Itto
Clorinde
Keqing
Shenhe
Honkai Star Rail
Black Swan
Robin
Sparkle
March 7th
Tingyun
What I can write
reader X character (with reader by default as gender neutral for wider audience's sake, unless a request demands a different one)
mainly fluff and comfort (reader comforting, or being comforted by character)
I don't exclude mentions of hurt or angst as context for the above (unless a request specifically demands it), some conditions related to mental health (loneliness, overthinking and its consequences) aren't excluded either
platonic (not entirely confident with romance, see Miscellaneous below), eventually light romance, but nothing intense
headcanons, eventually fics (fics may be included in headcanons if I'm feeling inspired; no guarantees though)
What I would rather not write
Unless you're lucky and your request is within my abilities, just be aware though they're not my preferences (= you would be wise to ask someone who actually writes for those, instead of me)
smut/+18/NSFW/NSFL (not out of dislike/disgust/discomfort, but due to no experience in writing this kind of sensitive stuff)
intense romance & flirting (not really into romance, so, better to be safe than sorry...)
yandere (no experience in this)
genderswap (not really interested...)
character x character (check above, "intense romance & flirting")
Miscellaneous:
By default, the reader will be gender neutral and referred to as S/O (please specify in the request, if you wish for specific nicknames or other pronouns to be used!), I want my blog to be open to everyone 😊
Multiple requests are allowed
I aim to write characters in a realistic manner, meaning I will base myself upon canon actions & voice lines from them
I'm not familiar with everything regarding LGBT+ and the autism spectrum (I'm not against writing about them, it's just that it will be a bit more difficult, and will require some research on my side)
I may not accept every request I receive (I'm no professional writer; plus, everything is done for free, during my free time)
I plan to add a link to ambient music to listen to, for immersion's sake (it may be emotional on purpose, at times), ideally to open in a new tab, so it can keep playing in background as you scroll along
Please don't interact if you don't have a civilized behavior; that is to say, be respectful, no hate, etc...
Headcanons are called headcanons for a reason; it's fine if you don't agree with mine, but that doesn't allow you to consider yours as superior/the only one 😉
If you own a blog which has "men dni" (or "mutuals only" and we aren't)... then what are you still doing here? *vine boom sound effect* Just kidding, I don't mind you interacting (I'm not like other men, and it's not like I could choose my gender at birth anyway; arbitrary discrimination be damned), though be aware this would technically be hypocrisy... so you ought to use anon, for your own public image's sake 🤨
Take care and have a nice day/night 😊

So. Here he is! This is the character I plan on using in a gift doodle for a friend. This feels absolutely surreal to say, but here he is. It me. Kinda. That's the part that feels weird to say. His name is... River. Sounds dumb, but there was an idea behind it (that was equal parts dumb and sentimental). He's a shapeshifting furry slime thing, and what you're seeing here is his main form... mostly. He'd much rather be wearing clothes, but this is better for showing off his coloration. Speaking of coloration, he can change colors as well! He doesn't do it very often though. There are a number of alternate forms he's come up with, but I haven't drawn them yet.
So, his tail being huge is both because I think it's cute and also for this reason - he can only shapeshift into a new form if he has enough bodily material to do so - any extra is stored in, and makes up, his tail.
Hobbies include playing guitar, bass, turn based rpgs, and platformers (and some other games if they look fun).
There's an idea doc I made, lemme copy over some stuff from that really quick:
-Mainly feline, with a few canine traits mixed in.
-Stands at about 6’2”.
-His tail, when fur is taken into account, is about the same diameter as his shoulder width, if not a bit larger around.
-On top of that, his tail is as long as he is tall.
-Also has paws and retractable claws. These are, like the rest of his body, whatever color he wants them to be.
LIKES:
His fur
His giant tail
Drawing
Turn-based combat
His friends
His friends
His friends
Belly Rubs
Shoegaze
Pop-punk
Whatever genre Hum and Nemo are
Breakcore
Ambient/drone music
His shapeshifting abilities
Peanut Butter
DISLIKES:
People who try to control other people
Subculture snobs & elitists
Being alone
Artist’s block
Points of no return
Needlessly high encounter rates
Being alone
The cost of living
Anti-furries
Being alone

BEN PLATT - "ANDREW"
youtube
"Andrew! Andrew! Andrew! You're gonna love meeeeeeeeee..."
[6.36]
Jeffrey Brister: Platt’s an incredibly talented vocalist, there’s no doubt there, and a good performance can do a lot to elevate average material -- like, say, a pleasant but unremarkable folky song about being sad and gay. His delicate falsetto dancing over top of the guitar, how the chorus blooms with yearning in a name, staying away from theatre kid pyrotechnics -- it’s a laundry list of good choices, and I’m just bowled over by its simple and straightforward beauty and earnestness. [8]
Alfred Soto: Depending on my diet that day I can embrace this unmitigated schmaltz or vomit at the sight of it. Neither the falsetto nor the lyrics have heard of subtlety. I am past the age when unrequited lust wears the drag of lachrymosity, but I hope I'm not callous enough to understand when young adults need it. [6]
Hannah Jocelyn: A friend and I made a list of songs about unrequited queer love, specifically when it comes to incompatible orientations. This is Ben Platt’s entry in the canon, and it’s the best song I’ve heard from him, the first that doesn't sound like rejected tracks from either Dear Evan Hansen or Blue Neighborhood -- it starts off very Simon & Garfunkel, but the more ambient Sufjan Stevens territory on the chorus fits him shockingly well. One problem: the Melodyne detracts from how sincere and pure the writing is (isn't Dave Cobb known for his authenticity?), to the point where Platt sings "if I can't get closer then I am destroyed" and sounds like a Dalek. Normally that would be a dealbreaker, and maybe I would dismiss this if I hadn't, in fact, had an Andrew or five. Cobb's production is gentle and tender enough that I can just lie back and think of all the pretty girls. [7]
Isabel Cole: I do appreciate the concept of this aching little ditty about the specific wrenching futility of crushing on a straight guy, and the idea of “wasting heartbreak” on someone who would never even be able to grant you the dignity of being rejected for your actual self is poignant. I can imagine the teen for whom this hits at exactly the right time, and that’s not nothing. But the first-love adolescent yearning of the lyrics fits oddly with the meandering melody and the folky arrangement (it’s giving Harry Styles Presents VH1’s I Love The 60s), and Platt… listen, whatever you think of Dear Evan Hansen, no one’s ever denied that the guy can sing. Here, it’s hard to shake the sense that he’s deliberately trying to differentiate his solo work from his Broadway past by avoiding sounding too musical theater, choosing instead to flatten his clear, resonant tone into a dull, nasal drone that feels like he’s playing Barefoot Guy With Guitar in a mockumentary about hippies. It doesn’t really work -- his falsetto sounds grating, and like a lot of stage singers trying to branch out, there’s a certain mannered quality he can’t quite shake -- and the few more vibrant lines towards the end make me wish I could hear a version of this aiming for the cheap seats. [4]
Ian Mathers: As someone who has disliked Ben Platt in everything I've seen or heard him in, I was absolutely prepared to reject this song from its Cat Stevens-ass opening, but then I kept listening and... I don't know, I keep thinking about that classic tumblr post that ends with "I am cringe, but I am free." I listened a few more times and... it's kind of lovely? Something about it reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot? I remember how much songs that seemed to speak to my particular romantic torments meant to me as a teen and I can absolutely imagine the kid who is going to play this on a loop like I did Sloan's "Deeper Than Beauty" or whatever? Don't make me regret this, Platt. [8]
Nortey Dowuona: The frustrating parts of this song have nothing to do with Ben Platt's voice. Whatever his faults in Dear Evan Hansen, Ben has a mellifluous tenor that comfortably floats in the higher parts of his range, allowing certain lines that feel clunky ("what a time-wastin', sweet happiness-takin', self-esteem, mess-making, heart-breakin' shame") to float past so pleasantly that when your own voice begins to sing them, they jumble together in your throat until they all flow out with the delivery of "Andrew." Producer Dave Cobb's helium guitar chords are also not the problem -- they lift Platt's voice and remain so close to it that when they lean back and let him take center stage, they allow Platt to send his melody up and catch it comfortably. The frustrating thing is the drums; they are so thin and yet so rigid that when they enter, the song loses the butterfly subtlety it needed to soar. Derrek Phillips, who has played with Vanessa Williams and Rahsaan Barber, somehow had to anchor the song in a way that would give it heft and keep its light, breezy charm, but instead he reinforces the dull structure of a second-verse drum groove, and all the hard work done by Platt and Alex Hope is squandered. A bolder choice by Platt or Cobb would've been to lean into the acoustic guitar arrangement by adding the bass and keyboards, and maybe the percussion (also done by Phillips) would act as the anchoring factor. Instead, the rigid structure kills probably the second-best thing Ben Platt has done. [7]
Jackie Powell: Ben Platt has had difficulty translating his vocal talents from film soundtrack music (the Pitch Perfect trilogy) and show tunes (The Book of Mormon and Dear Evan Hansen) into pop music. On songs like “Grow as We Go” and “Rain,” he sounded like slightly more adult versions of the characters he played. He’s leaned into motivational songs without any sort of foundation. “Andrew” works better than his previous pop offerings because of the story he paints of falling for a straight (or maybe not) friend who has led him on. A lot of these stories are coming out of the woodwork as of late with tracks such as Reneé Rapp’s “Pretty Girls” and Fletcher’s “Two Things Can Be True." These stories need to be told and provide a certain type of respite for queer people who too have felt a similar level of pain. Platt calls the situation a “cruel joke” and self-deprecates in a witty but incredibly depressing bridge. He’s not questioning whether falling for “Andrew” wastes his time but rather declares the infatuation as a time vampire that robs more than it gives. What’s less than desired, however, is the Simon & Garfunkel cosplay he attempts in the verses. The Auto-Tune that helps layer his vocals isn’t needed. The folksiness in “Andrew” is a step in the right direction for Platt in his journey to translating better into pop. I just wish he could have paid homage to Simon & Garfunkel in a way that didn’t come across as just another Broadway character he’s playing. [7]
Taylor Alatorre: I feel the exact same way listening to this as I do when reading the Urban Dictionary definition of any relatively common male first name. [3]
Katherine St. Asaph: What is it about guys named Andrew that inspires plaintive folk songs? Having no longings for any Andrews, I can only connect to these songs through my nostalgia, and thus Platt's is my favorite because it navigates those channels best -- which is to say it sounds exactly like Simon & Garfunkel. [6]
Mark Sinker: Not sure I remember a song where the jump from chest voice to head voice for the high notes feels so extremely foregrounded as a DECISION NOW BEING TAKEN. AND IT'S DONE! I can imagine arrangement where this works with the content: except here’s it’s like literally everything else about the song is funneling your attention to this choice instead, and I don’t think it’s what I’m meant to be thinking about? You have a nice voice mate, sorry your crush didn’t work out, that sucks. [5]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: Every time I've tried to write this blurb it's come out too ironic -- couching my appreciation for it in my disbelief that Dear himself could make such a perfect rendering of the version of Sufjan Stevens' music that exists only in the minds of 2014 Tumblr users, things of that nature. But let me meet sincerity with sincerity and say that "Andrew" wrecks my shit completely every time I listen to it, every achingly beautiful guitar arpeggio and breathy note from Platt activating all of my sentimental impulses. Most of all I admire the commitment here -- there's never a moment of performance from Platt or his producers that shies away from the full teenage gay melodrama of the lyrics. Weaker souls would have tried to subvert the maudlin stuff here. I'm glad they didn't. [9]

a lot of big tracks to close out the month!!! some letdowns, but plenty of heaters!!! i think i prefer this new weekly format for these posts, but we shall see how it holds up once my college stuff starts again ...
to see last week's post, click here!!! also feel free to follow me on rate your music and twitter <3
"Hog Calling Contest" - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
◇ released: July 23, 2024 ◇ featured on Flight b741 (not yet released) ◇ genres: southern rock, boogie rock, rockabilly
King Gizzard have released another fun single from their upcoming album soon. They're really putting some twang into their music and the results are pretty enjoyable. Maybe a bit too silly in some areas, the hog calling wasn't necessary although I guess it fits the name of the song. Looking forward to this one, should be a fun listen!! I plan on doing a quick binge of their recent albums to be prepared for this one also!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Long Dark Night" - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
◇ released: July 23, 2024 ◇ featured on Wild God (not yet released) ◇ genres: singer-songwriter, chamber folk
I somehow keep forgetting that we're getting a new Bad Seeds album next month. This new single is great, as the other singles have been as well, and I couldn't be more excited for this record. Cave sounds like he hasn't heard a new song in at least 30 years, but he still manages to keep making songs that have a fresh energy to them. They use tools of old, but his words carry these songs to new heights. The run they've been on since Push the Sky Away in 2013 has been one of the strongest of their careers, up there with their heyday through the late 80s into the 90s. It seems as though with Wild God, that will remain to be true. One of my most anticipated records of the year.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Berlin Nightmare" | "One More Time" - SOPHIE
◇ released: July 23, 2024 | July 24, 2024 ◇ featured on SOPHIE (not yet released) ◇ genres: tech house, acid house | ambient trance, UK bass
These new SOPHIE songs have proven to be quite polarizing which I guess was bound to happen. No one wants to dislike these songs, but also the bar is set incredibly high. It's obvious this upcoming posthumous release will be focused on the pop side of her career, which is fine. I enjoyed both her dips into experimental and pop music - I mean, the two often coalesced, but I fear these new songs veer too heavily from from the experimentation that made SOPHIE such a unique artist. "Berlin Nightmare" is a crunchy house track that doesn't feel as unleashed as it should be and "One More Time" is a subdued ambient trance track that rules when it finally kicks into high gear, but it's kind of too little too late. I want to unabashedly love these new tracks - mainly these two songs, "Reason Why" was pretty great - but they're just not doing all that much for me. Still, I guess I'm glad we're getting a project like this that will hopefully provide further proof that SOPHIE was one of our generation's most defining artists.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"GHOST" - LSDXOXO feat. Kelela
◇ released: July 23, 2024 ◇ featured on DOGMA (not yet released) ◇ genres: trap, alternative r&b
I have no idea who LSDXOXO is, but I've been on a big Kelela kick recently so I figured I would give this song a try. This is kind of rough. The beat is sort of toothless and the overly sexual lyrics are delivered with a lack of charisma that makes it boring and kind of gross. Kelela's vocal touches aren't even enough to salvage it. Skip this!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Imminent Redemption" - Jane's Addiction
◇ released: July 24, 2024 ◇ genres: alternative rock, alternative metal
This is the first new Jane's Addiction song with the band's original lineup in over 30 years and unfortunately it falls into a lot of the pitfalls older rock bands fall into when trying to modernize their sound. Granted, I've never been the biggest fan of the band. Maybe this is exhilarating for some, but I fail to hear anything special or noteworthy in "Imminent Redemption." Hope the fans are happy!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Chicken" - Pixies
◇ released: July 24, 2024 ◇ featured on The Night the Zombies Came (not yet released) ◇ genre: alternative rock
I've heard what I can only describe as "horror stories" about the Pixies newer material and how painfully average it all is. I've never been brave enough to venture into it, I don't want to sully my love for the band from their earlier seminal records, that is ... until now. "Chicken" sure is a song. It's fine. It's got a very subdued groove I guess. It's ok, I don't know. Am I still breathing?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"New in Town" - Thurston Moore
◇ released: July 24, 2024 ◇ featured on Flow Critical Lucidity (not yet released) ◇ genre: post-rock
It looks like Sonic Youth fans are eating good this year because just months after Kim Gordon's insane new album The Collective, we're getting a new album from Thurston Moore. "New in Town" was released on Moore's 66th birthday and it recalls the excitement of a music scene that is bustling with exciting sounds - namely Washington D.C. in the 1980s and 1990s with bands like Minor Threat, Fugazi, and Bad Brains. Sonically, this is weird, but a lot more of what you might expect from Moore. It's a decent little song, but not one that matches the excitement and freshness it seems to be reminiscing on.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Fly" - Mura Masa feat. Cherish
◇ released: July 24, 2024 ◇ featured on Curve 1 (not yet released) ◇ genres: contemporary r&b, dance-pop
I've never done a listen to Mura Masa's music proper, but he has shown up on some good albums over the years - namely yeule's incredible album softscars from last year as well as PinkPantheress' recent work. Unfortunately, "Fly" isn't doing too much for me. It's well-crafted and well-produced, but it doesn't leave too much of a lasting impression. Your mileage may vary though.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Irish Goodbye" - Kacey Musgraves
◇ released: July 26, 2024 ◇ featured on Deeper Well: Deeper into the Well (not yet released) ◇ genres: folk pop, singer-songwriter
Kacey Musgraves is releasing a deluxe edition of her most recent album Deeper Well and "Irish Goodbye" is one of the new tracks included. It's very pleasant which was my take on the bulk of the original album. These songs aren't adventurous or interesting, they're just pleasant on the ears. If you liked Deeper Well, I'm sure there will be plenty of love here.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Lucky" - Halsey
◇ released: July 26, 2024 ◇ genre: alt-pop
It seems like Halsey is gearing up for a new album coming soon and these songs detail her struggles with her health and motherhood, which I commend her for being open about, but "Lucky" just misses the mark for me. Her last album was her strongest work to date, featuring her best material and most interesting production - courtesy of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. This new song sees her delving into that contemporary alt-pop sound that it seems like everyone is doing. Her lyrics are unique to her, but these sounds are tired.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Guy For That" - Post Malone feat. Luke Combs
◇ released: July 26, 2024 ◇ featured on F-1 Trillion (not yet released) ◇ genre: country pop
We got another new single from Post Malone's upcoming country album and I genuinely have nothing new to say about this one. My critiques for all of these songs have been the same. Boring, boring, boring, boring, boring, boring.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Hate Me" - Lil Yachty & ian
◇ released: July 26, 2024 ◇ genres: new york drill, southern hip hop
So you're telling me Lil Yachty trash-talked the hip hop world after his mediocre detour into psychedelic rock, only to return and collaborate with this culture vulture who deliberately makes everything look like a joke. Sure, man. This song sucks, but we all knew that. The video is kind of cool though, if you listen on mute.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"One Wish" - Ravyn Lenae feat. Childish Gambino
◇ released: July 26, 2024 ◇ featured on Bird's Eye (not yet released) ◇ genres: contemporary r&b, neo-soul
I really enjoyed Ravyn Lenae's debut album Hypnos, but I just kind of lost touch of her since then. She has a new album on the way soon and a few singles have come out for it, namely this collab with Childish Gambino. This is a nice, sleek neo-soul cut that's very easy on the ears. Lenae has really come into her own as a vocalist too, she's easily the star of the show. Definitely gonna try to give Bird's Eye a listen.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Lonely Road" - mgk & Jelly Roll
◇ released: July 26, 2024 ◇ genres: country pop, emo rap
It's like Jelly Roll has blackmail on the dudes who make the worst music so he can land these shitty features left and right. My take on "Lonely Road," AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!! GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!!!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Kobe" | "Big Dog" - Kevin Abstract
◇ released: July 26, 2024 | July 29, 2024 ◇ featured on Glue (not yet released) ◇ genres: alternative r&b | pop rap
Kevin Abstract's supposedly long-awaited new project Glue is being released single-by-single on his Soundcloud. These songs are fine, but they just lack the enthusiasm present in his best work - he's been lacking that for a long time. "Kobe" creeps along without really grabbing you and while "Big Dog" has much more flair, it still leaves a lot on the table. The second verse is pretty great though and the most I've enjoyed a Kevin track since his features on Quadeca's new album ... wait look who features on this song!! Maybe Quadeca just brings out the best in him.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"All You Children" - Jamie xx feat. The Avalanches
◇ released: July 30, 2024 ◇ featured on In Waves (not yet released) ◇ genre: tech house
I've been on a huge Jamie xx kick this month. I finally dove into In Colours as well as his We're New Here remix album with Gil Scott-Heron and I've firmly come to the conclusion that he's one of music's best active producers. This song with electronic legends The Avalanches is a great time. Built around a sample of a poem from Nikki Giovanni urging the listener to dance. It's infectious, it just makes you want to move. I can't wait for this album.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Flash in the Pan" | "Dream Sequence" - Jane Remover
◇ released: July 31, 2024 ◇ genres: alternative r&b, indietronica, emo rap
Jane Remover's two new songs go in a much different direction from Census Designated, but it's for the best I think. These songs rock. Some of the most energetic tracks from her, despite the heartbroken nature of the lyrics. One of my gripes with her last album was that the songs just didn't grab me enough, they often bled into the background, but that is not the case with these tracks. Apparently these songs are one-offs, but I do hope we hear more like this from Jane in the future. Loving these songs.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Tunnel Vision" - Magdalena Bay
◇ released: July 31, 2024 ◇ featured on Imaginal Disk (not yet released) ◇ genres: progressive pop, synthpop
We got another amazing song from Magdalena Bay to close out this month. "Tunnel Vision" is one of their wildest songs yet. Blending the surreal lyrical themes with even crazier instrumentation. It tricks you for the bulk of the song into thinking it's just a serene synthpop track before throwing you into this crazy prog-rock breakdown towards the end. Definitely not where I expected the song to go, but it rocks. I can't wait to give this a listen next month, perhaps my most anticipated album of the year right now.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All" - Father John Misty
◇ released: July 31, 2024 (or maybe July 13, 2024 idk who cares) ◇ featured on Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl ◇ genres: indie rock, disco, piano rock
This new 8-minute single from Father John Misty is weird. Blending piano rock and subtle disco elements over his fantastical lyricism is a recipe for ... confusion. I don't love this song, but I definitely don't hate it. It's got a silly charm to it, I never thought I wanted to hear Mr. Tillman over a disco groove, but I guess I did. Curious to hear where he takes this sound - maybe nowehere given it's the only new track on his new greatest hits compilation. I've rarely been let down by him over the years, he's one of my favorite modern songwriters. Hell, this song is growing on me more and more too ... y'know what, this rules. Can't wait to hear more Western wandering traveler disco from him in the future.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Never Meant" - Iron and Wine
◇ released: July 31, 2024 ◇ featured on American Football (Covers) (not yet released) ◇ genres: indie folk, psychedelic folk
American Football were teasing something on social media for a little bit and many, including myself, assumed we were finally going to get LP4, but that isn't the case. Instead, we're getting an anniversary edition of their seminal debut record alongside a covers album. Iron and Wine had the duty of covering the iconic "Never Mean." This is fine, it's just a folk rendition of the song. Very pleasant, but I don't think I'll ever reach for this one over the original. Cautiously optimistic about this covers record - maybe some of these covers will wow me!!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ thanks for reading :3

Hello, I’m M, and hello to our blog.
This is for our system. We have recently been diagnosed with DID. we have very little understanding of official terms and things because of this. We’re still learning about what being a system is. Please don’t treat us poorly for this reason.
I (M speaking) , am the host.
This blog is just a place for me and everyone else to hang out and feel like we can share social media together and stuff without secrets. This is a part of myself nobody else knows about and we all intend to keep it that way. This is anonymous for that reason.
Below are bio’s for all of us. Everyone at this time wanted to be included. They wrote their own descriptions (minus click who doesn’t like to really talk, I wrote it for them.)
M: Main host, does a majority of the fronting. I am usually gonna be the one responding and doing things.
Pronouns: They/Them
Likes: Tea, drawing, Crochet, transformers
Dislikes: Flying bugs, overstimulation, confrontation
Niki: Hello, I am Niki :-) I'm the oldest individual within the system. I don't really front by myself, but I will do so from time to time. M tells me that I appear as a Guardian Angel to others, but I see myself more as just an assistant than something so grand. M seemed excited to have us all write down this Bio, so i was happy to do so. Thank you for reading.
Pronouns: He/Him
Likes: vintage aesthetics, naps, asmr, meditation
Dislikes: Maybe long work days? The others seem stressed by those which of course worries me.
Winslow: Hello everyone! The name’s Winslow, I'm not quite sure what to put here, so i guess i’ll just describe my interests? I'm super into dad rock, and love to have jam sessions while I clean and stuff. I'm also a sucker for Cozy games. The others find it funny that a tough guy like me enjoys some animal crossing, but hey, this guy knows what he likes! I'm also a lover of customization, pins, patches, piercings, ect. If I can make myself stand out I would like to do it! I aint livin my life as the color beige.
Pronouns: He/Him
Likes: Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, patches and pins and stickers
Dislikes: idiots on the road, hypocrites
Note: Winslow is proudly trans, FTM.
Click: Click is almost entirely non-talking. For the longest time, Click was very protective of their form, not showing themselves to anybody, but recently they drew themselves as a cloaked clown. Click communicates through noises, flapping, and only when necessary, speaking. They are able to, but it causes great discomfort. Click is able to clean and do tasks, but generally only enjoys fronting when alone. They’re very shy. Click commonly fronts when I need a break, and is great at self -care and soothing everyone else, however, they do struggle to soothe themself.
Pronouns: They/Them, or just refer to them by their name
Likes: colorful object, stim toys, liminal spaces, exploration, ambient music
Dislikes: speaking, loud sounds
Note: Click does want to be included in this, there is always a possibility they will want to be removed, but as of right now they were excited and enthusiastic on being included.
Melody: hi!!! I’m melody✨💕 I am a lover of all things pink, i'm a bit of a y2k girlie but i also like other stuff as well, i'm also super into Crochet like M, and i've been making such cute stuff and it's making me so dang happy! I'm into horror movies and Metal music. I like hoodies too, my favorite color’s are blue and red. I also enjoy taking walks, I can be a bit of a hothead so it's nice to take a walk and get some fresh air.

DAWN OF THE FINAL DAY, TIME TO BEAT SOME ASS
Magatsu Inaba is by far the best dungeon. The best ambient music for sure, and also just annoying in interesting ways. Adachi has a lot more control over the place than previous folks did, which leads up nicely to the revelation about him that we all saw coming.
There's a point where he's like "let's play a game! get thru this level without getting in any fights!" and it was so fucking irritating, i got booted out of his world twice trying, and like... that's a fun trick, to have the mechanics of a place be more hostile so you dislike Adachi even more. Also, the level where you have to follow the spiral all the way to the middle, passing or fighting about 8 shadows? goddamn fucking bullshit. I hate Adachi, he's amazing.
WHEN I TELL YOU I LAUGHED OUT LOUD
OH GOD I FIGURED IT OUT he's like dime store Handsome Jack. he doesn't nearly have the swagger, but because that swag is not so Off The Chart Bonkers like Handsome Jack, he seems like less of a poser than Jack? So it actually works really well. Adachi is just enough of a total bitch that he can still back it up. He's a delightful villain!
Like literally if you removed the tacked-on stupid sexism (WHICH WEIRDLY? THEY DO? IT DOESN'T COME UP AGAIN REALLY AFTER HIS INITIAL REVEAL) he's a top five villain. Huge fan of this odious little bastardman.
B R U H
Adachi, I love you, you're such a shit
Which, I am cackling, but narratively, he works phenomenally well for his position in opposition to the seekers of truth. Oh yeah sure he's the killer, but also he is going to drop some hard fucking realities on your plate while he's at it. Yeah, many cops are bullies who go into the force to get access to power. Yeah, the public will be angry at the revelation that Namatame isn't the killer. People want specific truths to become reality, and that is what has fueled the Midnight Channel all this time.
HE'S GREAT. TEN OUTTA TEN. Well, nine. The weird "bitches and whores" thing was so odd, glad they left it behind now.
As far as dumbass Assimilation Plots go, this one is better than most.
Okay so I seriously way overleveled for this game's difficulty, but even so I love the Adachi fight. After seeing everyone's Shadows as these huge weird unleashed id-creatures, going into combat against just a guy, that was really way more effective and menacing. Also his idle animations are great. Adachi will stare at whoever is up next and every few seconds he just has a hysterical laughing fit behind his hand. It's AMAZING, he's so creepy and cracked.
Also as I expected, this bitch got a Persona. Which makes sense! He has faced his inner self and his reward is a Persona, which seems to be the Magatsu Izanagi that was hinted at in his maxed-out SLink I glimpsed in the other ending.
So not only does he have Reverie's power, not old is he a Wild Card, he also has the same persona but Disaster-flavored.
Sadly he's really not a difficult fight. I would have killed to have an Adachi with multiple persona, but that would necessitate questions about him and the Velvet Room, blah blah.
ANYWAY HE'S GREAT.
pats Adachi on the head as condescendingly as i possibly can
OH BUT LEST YOU WORRY THAT YOU'D GET THROUGH A PERSONA GAME WITHOUT A BIG NIGHTMARE EYEBALL BOSS, WE AIN'T DONE YET

Girls Like Girls Review
Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko
CW: Loss of a Parent, Suicide, Suicidal Thoughts, Underage Drinking and Drug Use, Dangerous Driving, Near Death Experience, Breaking and Entering, Homophobia, Internalized Homophobia, Controlling Parent, Domestic Abuse, Toxic Friendships, Fade-To-Black Sexual Activity, Vomit, Child Abandonment, Swearing, Grief, Violence, Injury, Bullying, Mentioned Abortion, Gaslighting, Classism, Sexism, Accidental Outing
3.5/5
I grew up watching Hayley Kiyoko on Disney Channel and have been following her music career for quite a while. When she announced that she was writing a book, I knew I had to read it, no matter what. For those who use YouTube more than me, you may have realized that this book is based on the music video for the song of the same name. I didn't realize this until listening to the acknowledgments at the end of the book. Based on my experience, I recommend reading the book before watching the music video, assuming you haven't seen it yet. The story ventured outside of my comfort zone, but kept reeling me back in. I honestly didn't know if I liked the book until the very end, but I had refused to DNF a Kiyoko book.
After her mom dies by suicide, Coley moves to a small town in Oregon. It's the summer before her senior year of high school and she's now stuck living with the father that skipped out on raising her. He's a man she doesn't know or trust. While out biking to avoid being home, she nearly gets run over by a group of popular kids. They likely wouldn't have taken her under their wing if it weren't for their ring leader, Sonya, being intrigued by Coley. As the summer goes on, the two girls become inseparable. Will they unravel their feelings for each other or will their family lives and social circles drag them down?
It's important to note that Girls Like Girls is set in 2006. Kiyoko was 15 that year and therefore able to pull from her own memories of how teenagers lived in 2006. There's AIM, LiveJournal, tattoo chokers, no smartphones, and different slang. There are also a lot of references to the popular music of that time. I recommend looking up the songs you're unfamiliar with for the full experience. Of course, the mindset towards human rights was also of the time. Many characters, Coley and Sonya included, could have benefited from therapy, but that wasn't as openly talked about 17 years ago. Homophobia was also more publicly accepted at the time. These issues haven't gone away, but it's nice to see that things have improved.
Speaking of queer content, Girls Like Girls is a story about two very different teen girls realizing they are attracted to their own gender. It becomes clearer throughout the story, that despite Sonya coming from a well-off family, Coley is in a much safer environment to come out as gay. Sonya has a controlling mother and a few openly homophobic friends. Coley finds several other queer people in her community and a number of allies. I am relieved that we got a little bit of Sonya's POV, because the relationship between Coley and her would read as irredeemably toxic otherwise. I am also relieved that the book takes the time to address the toxicity that's there. If you're patient, the book will address everything you're wondering about.
I experienced Girls Like Girls as an audiobook. It was mostly read by Kiyoko doing Coley's POV. I enjoy her voice and love when an author reads their own book. She was joined by one of my favorite audiobook narrators, Natalie Naudus, for Sonya's LiveJournal posts and emails. There are a few other voices throughout for small parts. While I enjoyed the ensemble cast of voices, I disliked the music and ambient sounds that were mixed in. If it had been consistent throughout the whole book, I would have liked it. Instead, the additional sounds would appear out of nowhere and temporarily take me out of the story. Please keep that in mind if you're trying to decide between print and audio.
Kiyoko's writing style will appeal to fans of Sarah Dessen, especially those looking for queer content. It's a summer romance, for one. It handles dark topics well without being the kind of book to make the audience cry. It's a small town setting with a new girl trying to become a part of a group of friends who have known each other for years. It's not usually my type of genre, which is why I potentially would've DNF'd it had a different author written it. There were scenes that made me uncomfortable, but I was often reeled back in by the action. I don't regret sticking it out to the end. I enjoy the way the story resolves. Of course, you'll have to read it yourself if you want to know the ending.
If you're interested in a small-town YA romance with queer content and dark topics, Hayley Kiyoko's Girls Like Girls is the book for you. Should you pick it up and stick it out, you'll be rewarded with a music video summary of the book. Give it a chance, it's the kind of book you'll remember!

Album Showcase: Three Days Grace -Three Days Grace
I may not remember exactly how I found out about Three Days Grace but I believe it was through two friends I knew in 8th grade. Well, I would say that BUT as I typed this I just remembered it was because I watched a Naruto AMV that used one of their biggest most well known songs in it. After that I would continue to listen to the band for years. Though I mainly stuck to the first two albums. Not because I dislike the later stuff, it was mainly because I stopped paying attention to what else they were doing and was looking at other bands. But regardless, even though I have changed a lot as a person and expanded on my music taste I still have a huge soft spot for early Three Days Grace. It will be nice retreading old ground here.
Content warnings for light discussions of mental illness (mainly depression), discussion on toxic to abusive relationships, and mentions of alcoholism.
The album cover art is simple but gets it across the moody tone for the album. I like the whole sketchy look of it. The imagery of three figures standing away from a burning home does catch my eye. I always interpreted the figures to be a family and the burning home to represent their dysfunction.
Before we go further I do want to say that I tend to get easily amused if an album or song is named after a band. Such as here though I wish they had a song called Three Days Grace so then it would be Three Days Grace by Three Days Grace on the album Three Days Grace. A missed opportunity but oh well. Though speaking of their name I found out that originally the band was called Groundswell and around 1997 the name was changed into what it is now. From what Gointer said in an interview with Florida Entertainment Scene in 2004, “ No, we sort of look at Three Days Grace, as it sort of stands for sense of urgency. Time to pay a debt. if you had three days to change something in your life or if wanted to changed something in your life could you do it in three days. That sort of urgency, I guess.”
That is a pretty heavy meaning for the name and the more I think about the more I get it with what I know about the original lead singer. Anyway, this album was released on July 22nd, 2003 and the genre it leans more towards are alternative metal, nu-metal, and post-grunge. I think this was one of my earliest exposure to nu-metal in general before I would listen to bands such as Disturbed, Linkin Park, Dope, etc. It is hard for me to fully define what exactly alternative metal is without just saying “If you know what alternative rock, then you can put together what this genre would entail” since a variety of bands have been labeled as such from System of a Down, 3Teeth, Bullet for my Valentine, Alter Bridge, etc which all have a distinct sound from one another. Though the term isn’t used much anymore. Post-Grunge I don’t know much about unfortunately but I guess better late than never to look more into it. I am genuinely looking forward to revisiting this album and seeing if it still holds up after all these years.
Track 1: Burn
This is a strong start for the album. The ambient build up before the guitar kicks in continuing the buildup until the lyrics come in. The song is about the narrator going up against someone. Making it clear this person isn’t going to win and they aren’t going to hide. They aren’t going to burn, but the other person will. Very simple concept and the lyrics are not subtle at all. Though despite this I still have a huge soft spot for it. I think mainly because as a teen I would just imagine various ocs of mine fighting against their rivals or something and triumphing over them. Though as much as I wish Burn got more attention I also understand why it didn’t.
Track 2: Just Like You
This was one of their big hits from the album and yeah I get why. As a teenager I felt like the song was about a child telling their parents they are not going to follow in their footsteps. They aren’t going to be mean or cruel, they are going to be better. They are going to go down their own path. This is a song I know a lot of teens related to, I know I did. I was not the only one who thought the song was about such. In an interview Adam said,
"It's about being told how to live your life. When we were growing up, we saw it sort of first hand. A lot of our friends were pushed into doing jobs their parents were telling them to do. It's about being pushed around and told how to live your life and standing up for yourself."
One has to keep in mind that Adam was around 25 when this album was recorded which sure that isn’t that young (not compared to when he made Groundswell around 14) but that does explain a lot not just about this song but also the album in general. I don’t have much to say about the music video besides liking the aesthetics of it. However, I want to bring up something interesting about this song. So, when I would go on itunes as a teenager and looked through Three Days Grace’s discography at the time I saw this track was on the soundtrack for the film XXX: State of the Union. Now, I didn’t nor do I still know what this movie is about. But what caught my eye was the title of the song on the soundtrack was instead called Just Like Wylin featuring American rapper Bone Crusher. I took a listen and...I could not anticipated for what I was going to hear. I know teen me didn’t like it but now as and adult I am just HIGHLY amused. This type of mashup is so bizarre but I weirdly love it just for whiplash of it. I HAD to mention it before moving on.
Track 3: I Hate Everything About you
This was the first song I ever heard by the band. Of course I heard it through an edgy Naruto AMV as a middle schooler. This song is one of the band’s most well known songs. Hell, they made this song before the album. It was on their demo when they were still Groundswell and the track got them attention from many record labels. I fully understand why. The song is very in your face about it’s subject matter. A toxic relationship and all the messy feelings that come along with it. Adam has said,
“The song is pretty blunt you know? It's to the point. It's about realizing there's something in your life you're wasting time on. I think everybody, even in this band and a lot of other people have felt that way before at one point or another in their life. Whether it's a person, a relationship whatever it is, you're just wasting time on it. The song is a realization of that.”
While I get the song being blunt and to an extent, whiny, can be seen as a detraction on top of it being not the most polished song. In my opinion, that is what gravitates me towards it. I think that unfiltered emotion from it really makes it stand out on this album. It’s no wonder this song is used for edgy AMVs to playlists for oc stuff. The fact this song was from their demo genuinely amazes me because it is really well done. They got really lucky with this track. I found a review by Heather Phares of AllMusic who said,
"At first, the song seems almost stupidly simple, both lyrically and musically. However, the controlled fury of the choruses and the ambivalent verses make the song a surprisingly smart and concise anthem for anyone stuck in a baffling relationship."
The review gets it. I feel like this song could have easily been fumbled lyrically like many other bands who made similar relationship songs like this. But I think what made this work is that Adam was not trying to write this from the perspective of a teenager for teenagers. But from someone who knows what this type of relationship is like for others who have gone through it.
Track 4: Home
This was apparently another big track from their album which surprises me. Mainly because I never really expected it to be a hit. Though it did not get as big as “Just Like You” and “I Hate Everything About You”. I would listen to this song a decent amount as a teen mainly because I grew up in a not great environment. So at the time it resonated with me but not so much now. It is a decent song, not my favorite track, but all right. Apparently this was Adam Gointer’s favorite track from the album mainly because it was fun to play it live. Though drummer Neil Sanderson talked about the meaning of the song saying,
"It's about being pushed around and neglected and feeling like even though you're in the company of other people, they're not really there at all."
Obvious by anyway, further reading I found this odd trivia about the song. This track along with an interview with the band was included as a bonus with the Prima Games strategy guide for Lords of EverQuest. Huh? That is random. Why was this song chosen for it? Who knows.
Track 5: Scared
I always forget this track exists. It’s not a bad song but it doesn’t stand out compared to the other tracks on the album. I could say what the song is about but I think Genius said it best with and I quote, “This song is about someone is scared and lonely” Thank you random person for saying the obvious. I cannot saying anything else about the song. Narrator is paranoid and is clearly not having a good time in this house because the other person there told him shit he cannot unhear. So far this is one of the weaker tracks on the album. The lyrics are simple and the track feels more like a filler song more than anything. Again, it isn’t like a terrible song but it also doesn’t do much for me. Actually, while I went to listen to it this is a fucking bop. If someone made an AMV of this song with like Scooby Doo on Zombie Island or something it would be perfect. Fuck what I said earlier that this is a weak track.
Track 6: Let You Down
This is an interesting track. It is about the narrator urging the other to trust them and they are safe with this person. But shortly reveals that once you give said trust to them, they will disappoint you. I know some could read this as Adam is the narrator in the situation but I don’t personally see it like that. How I saw it was this was akin to a villain song. Which I think works in the song’s favor. Well I know what ocs I’ll be using this song for.
Track 7: Now or Never
I always assumed this track was about the state of the world and we have the decision of either doing something or not at all. Though that was my perspective as a teen. Now as an adult I could see this song on a more personal level of a person having to choose whether to act upon a decision or never getting that chance again. It’s an all right song. Not one of my favorites but it is a nice track regardless.
Track 8: Born Like This
You know, I struggled trying to pin down the exact meaning behind the song. Before relistening to it I assumed it was about like being born a certain way. Like a certain nature be it selfishness to cruelty. Especially from my memory of the song. When I began to listen with lyrics “It’s not what I took from you, It’s not what I stole, we are born like this” I thought it would lean towards that or something but as the track went on it just became more vague. Well to me anyway. I would replay it to see if maybe I’ll get it. I know this verse,
“Somewhere you're floating high You're not living, we are Somewhere, someone's god, someone's god is laughing”
Stood out to me even as a teen. I always liked it but I don’t really know why. I asked one of my friends who listened to a lot of Three Days Grace as a teen and asked what they thought the song was trying to say. What they told me was,”my best guess is about reclaiming agency over one's life, like a "you can't change the person i intrinsically am" kind of thing.” This was after them even admitting they didn’t fully know what the song meant either. Though if lets say that is the message of reclaiming one’s agency then that is genuinely neat.
Track 9: Drown
An obvious about depression and that the narrator will get out of the slump before it overtakes them. I like the whispers that appear in and out of the song especially in the end. It is eerie and gives off an implication of the narrator doing a mantra to encourage themselves to get through this. How I feel about this song is similar to Now or Never, I like it all right but it isn’t my top song on this album.
Track 10: Wake Up
Before I re-listened to this song I was like “I don’t remember this track. This was their fourth hit?” Then when the instrumentals kicked in then I remembered it. The instrumentals are genuinely very nice and oddly relaxing. However the lyrics of it is...a LOT. I am going to be blunt, this is about a couple in an abusive relationship where the narrator is struggling with addiction however he is taking out his frustrations on his partner. He tries to plead to her that he needs her even though this relationship is terrible for both of them. Especially since the girl is the one who has to be in a position to try to calm him down to sober him up. That and he is using her for drunken sex as well which uhh...
Adam in an interview said,
“ We kind of wrote that song together as a band. The other guys in the band have gone through quite a few relationships, and I've been through a couple. Really that song's just about wanting to get a second chance at a relationship that has gone pretty bad."
There is just a lot to unpack here and in this song that I don’t really know if I am equip to actually discuss more. Like yeah, I could bring up that the narrator is probably an alcoholic which explains his anger and behavior towards this woman. But that is obvious. I guess I am just shocked because as a teen I never really paid attention to the lyrics so listening to this as an adult I am just sitting here. I am not sure how I feel about this song at all. Do I hate it? No. Do I love it? No. Does the song make me uncomfortable? Yeah actually. Not because the subject matter is there but more me trying to figure out how am I, the listener, meant to feel towards the narrator? Sympathy? Pity? Disgust? I guess that is up to the listener. I do have some respect for the song being like up front about a bad relationship like this.
Track 11: Take Me Under
I have always felt this track was fatalistic since the whole “Push me under, pull me further, take me all the way” does make it sound like he is asking death to just get it over with. However, reading more into the lyrics I could if I really squinted it COULD be about a relationship based on the lyric,
“ Seems you're wanting me to stay But my dreams would surely waste away And I still have nowhere else to go”
But I think either interpretation works. It is an all right song, got nothing more to say on it.
Track 12: Overrated
Okay, I remember this track and it was my least favorite on the album for years. Mainly how slow and dull it sounded to me. On top of the energy on the track being low. As a teen I thought this was like about overrated music but going back to the first verse this is about generational divide. That the previous generation screwed up the current and future generation with all the issues they created. Which I only found that out now of the song’s message. While I understand the message I feel like there are better songs that do this. The song doesn’t go deeper into what these issues are besides vague things such as “answers to questions they don’t even know” to “the system moves too slow”. I get that maybe the band didn’t want to get too political on their debut album but as it is, it is a weak end to the album. I will say it is not a bad song but it is a very meh song.
Bonus Track: Are You Ready?
So on the deluxe edition of the album they added this track and I think this song is a weirdly fitting end to the album. Which yes it sounds a lot different than all the other tracks which have more depressing subject matter. But the energy of it I feel like is on par of bring the mood up. Not gonna lie, it sounds like a song perfect for concert audience participation. Not a bad thing but it is something I noticed.
I was pleasantly surprised that I still enjoyed this album as I am getting slowly closer to 30 and farther away from who I was as a middle schooler. I enjoyed most of the songs on this with my top favorites being Burn, I Hate Everything About You, Born Like This, and Scared. The band got super lucky with this album being the success it was. Not every bands first album is solid.Oh, and before I forget this is a Canadian band. I don’t know why I always forget the band came from there but I do. I should have mentioned that a lot earlier but oh well. I actually recommend this album if you like more alternative metal to rock stuff. As I am writing this I have and had worked on Bullet for My Valentine’s The Poison review. Switching back between the two so I hopefully get my review of The Poison out soon.

HAIIIHAIHAIHAI I CAME TO ASK ABOUT ELEINA :3c
what are her likes and dislikes, how tall is she, which other oc is she closest to, whats her fave hangout spot, whats her favorite song :ooo
her main thing is fashion and enjoying life. she picks up a bunch of hobbies she's very interested in for some weeks then drops them then goes onto the next thing - she loves shopping a lot! she has like, several wardrobes worth of clothes. her outfits are usually very coordinated and look well put together because she knows what she's doing. she's also the type of person to get along with everybody (on a shallow level) and get into everything others do. she doesn't get any complex poems or any more abstract art but she does love reading and looking at these and go "wow, neat!"
her fav hangout spot is probably her own apartment, within that her balcony despite her going to cafés and being outside all the time. it's super well-decorated with little trinkets, she also knows how to decorate rooms very well (she has a good eye for these sorts of things) so her entire apartment probably looks very "aesthetic". haven't set out a height for her but she's pretty tall for a greyhound. + she probably listens to what would be considered pop music (and its subgenres) and ambient, these sorts of things. she doesn't like any "rough" sounding music (she wouldn't be into metal) but she does love a burst of energy in a song! i haven't found any songs to fit her yet (i also just started to broaden my music taste so i probably don't even know anybody who even writes songs that would come close to be anything she would like) and she's closest to..... her boyfriend! she has a boyfie and she lets the entire world know this. she's super duper in love with him and they're seen together walking in the city a lot. his name is steffan and he's this borzoi dog who owns a modelling agency (two of them pictured in this cropped image i just pulled out:)
and she's found a real great friend in one of the models of her boyfie's agency, named odette, who was a bit shy and lacked confidence, but later on became very social and got herself together to the point of being unrecognizable to the ones who've only known her from before. this was mainly because of eleina's friendship and active couragement (but let's not discredit odette for being the one who tried and succeeded in gaining self-esteem.) - pictured down below
(i love putting cropped pictures)
+ fun fact about eleina: in-story, they usually call her june (second name) but she always puts her entire name (eleina june juniper) whenever asked to write it or if it's needed for anything. she thinks all of these names are "super fancy" and "sooo full of vibe, yknow?" so she has this standard for her name to be used like that. but she doesn't mind anybody calling her something else, it's more about herself
#threedigits ask#i love you anon thank you for asking things <3#imagine yourself digitally kissed#mwah
