song 42 is The Calling by The Amazing Devil, and a funny thing about this song is that I've already written a fic inspired by it! you can read it here, and i would recommend reading it as the drabble i wrote today is a companion piece to it, a short introspective piece from scar's perspective <3

When Scar dies, his only thought is that he's abandoning Grian. He doesn't want to go, he never wanted to leave, but he has no choice now. All he can do is lie there in Grian's arms and wait for death to take him.

And it does.

As his soul separates from his body, he can hear Grian screaming. His voice is shattered with grief, echoing out over the battlefield that had claimed him, and Scar wants to cry alongside him. The guilt is immeasurable, even though he knows it's not his fault. He watches as his partner, the love of his life, kisses the brow of his lifeless body, setting it down gently before picking up his sword and swearing vengeance.

He kills dozens, no, hundreds, his blade moving in hacking, jerking motions, stabbing into others with no regard for his own life. He sustains injury after injury, and Scar feels his heart ache as he throws his life away in every stab. He won't survive this battle.

When Grian finally collapses, the fight complete, stained in a mixture of his own and others blood, Scar feels his heart ache, even though he knows he doesn't have one anymore. The general carries him to Scar's body, laying him down, and Scar leans in to hear his final words before he joins him.

"I did it. I did it."

Scar smiles as Jellie, his faithful companion, gone too soon from this world, brushes past him to greet Grian and welcome him to the afterlife. Grian is confused at first, but he understands quickly, and when he turns to see Scar, the look of joy in his eyes is priceless.
