Stanley looks dead faced because of his ingrained poker face, but he's thouroughly enjoying it, even if sometimes he has no idea what the fuck Ford is saying. He never interrupts him though, since he knows people usually ignore or interrupt him mid-talk already. So sometimes Stan gets stuck in awkward situations where he has to leave or do stuff, but also doesn't have it in his heart to stop Ford and extract himself out of a (one-sided) conversation.

Incorrect, the fact that Biden has dropped out and a candidate with history of supporting medicare for all and being more receptive to a ceasefire in the I/P conflict has made me go from "I cannot morally support the Democratic nominee" to "I am voting for the Democratic nominee despite the fact she isn't perfect in every respect." I'm really happy this played out. The Dems for the most part abandoned the old Obama platform and it feels like its possible an actual progressive agenda could come to pass in my lifetime.

End-of-Day Debrief

Let me go through my many stages of Doing Things Is A Big Commitment in peace!!! MAD SCIENTIST AU. Why anyone would let either of the two psychopaths out of their sight is beyond Lan Wangji, but he's meditating and doesn't want to break his concentration as Wei Wuxian goes to check on the monster - better a Wen than anyone else, he supposes. He comes back all excited like "okay so the Wen cut the ropes BUT there is another way out through the lake I think. The monster is sleeping, and we just need someone to check it out." There's a lot of silence before Jiang Cheng (one day I'll fit him into the AU) is like "how certain are you?" Wei Wuxian mentions leaves in the pond and he sighs and goes "I can do it."

They all sneak back into the chamber to find the monster unmoving as promised, and Jiang Cheng just dives into the lake (fully clothed, there are ladies present) without so much as a ripple in the water. Everyone's holding their breaths, Lan Wangji keeps looking back at the beast and expecting it to wake up out of the blue, but then Jiang Cheng pops up and clambers back to shore with information of a hole out big enough for a few people to slip through at a time. Wei Wuxian, once again, takes almost natural control of the situation and starts organising everyone into groups based on how well they can swim.

Xue Yang seems far too excited as he stands and says "I finally have a reason to piss off a huge flesh eating monster," because he isn't going to let Wei Wuxian do it! He's injured!! Plus this is literally his dream and he barely lets anyone say anything before he's throwing up fire talismans left, right, and centre to piss off this beast and draw its attention away from the groups quickly beginning to make so much noise diving into the water. Lan Wangji himself is reluctant to go ahead because he doesn't know what these two have planned by staying behind - especially Wei Wuxian, who has organised all of this for apparently 'no reason' when he could leave all of them to die.

Eventually, the rest of the groups are gone and Wei Wuxian practically pushes Xue Yang into the water before they can argue about who has to go first, and then this monster is lunging forwards for the bright red flash across its vision, mistaking him for bright, warm fire. It's a split second decision, an instinctive reaction to seeing someone in danger, but Lan Wangji is moving before he can process what's happening and then his leg is trapped in the maw of the beast. The pain is indescribable. This is it. He's going to die, his life thrown away to save a Wen, the ones who burned his home and killed his father and probably his brother and now him, trapped in a dingy cave with not even a glimpse of sunlight-

Lan Wangji looks up, ready to make eye contact with the monster responsible for his untimely death, only to find that he is looking at Wei Wuxian. Prying the jaws of the beast open. With nothing but his bare hands and feet. Yelling for him to move. He can't breathe as he immediately retreats from the jaw of the monster, watching his saviour barely escape being crushed as he was about to be. He feels dizzy as he is scooped onto Wei Wuxian's back, mouth too dry to even consider arguing against such treatment. The other man feels so warm against his chest.

It must be the blood loss.

I feel like the Primaris should have been the catalyst for like, an imperial civil war. At the very least, much unrest in the house of Guilliman. Their existence, let alone rollout/integration, should have had many chapters absolutely rioting. It should be beyond the pale by several orders of magnitude and be seen as an enormous overreach by the more autonomy loving chapters, a blasphemy by the more orthodox chapters, and an existential threat to chapters with geneseed quirks. Plus anyone with any awareness of the thunder warriors should take one look at them and recognize the writing on the wall. Guilliman should absolutely recognize what they represent, what they imply. Like they're the leading wave of a paradigm shift that doesn't bode well for what came before. And I say this as someone who's not averse to Primaris, I just think they could've, should've, been a waaaay bigger deal. I know they loathe changing the status quo and we're never getting rid of the posterboys but I think we missed out on something interesting.

i'm sure it's been said but i do love how trimax handles wolfwoods death. i've seen so many stories that have characters die and they just go away after. i'm really used to stories where the other characters aren't allowed to grieve, the story keeps going and it feels like the other characters aren't really affected or get over it really easily. but in trimax wolfwoods death is so important. we see other characters grieving him. vash protecting the orphanage, expanding his power when he really shouldn't, because it was wolfwood's home, even though wolfwood is already gone. he gets an actual burial. vash and livio eating their way through the grief, which is more comedic but still shows us how important he was to the two of them, sets up how in many ways they're fighting in his memory.

even after he's gone he's still present in the story in such a strong way. we can see how he's affected the other characters, even when they don't explicitly mention him it's obvious that they're thinking about him. what he did when he was alive, and his death itself, are so important to the story even after he's not there. not just in a really abstract "this is someone we lost" way (though there are a lot of times his death and sacrifice motivate vash and livio to fight harder!) he's present in the finale in a material way to livio, who uses his serums to help fight against elendira, which ofc also ties into the way wolfwoods choice to ally with vash and fight against knives gave livio strength to do the same. wolfwood showed him that there are things worth fighting for, things worth protecting. that your body is a weapon, but you can choose what to do with it, use it for something meaningful.

and the way vash kills legato in order to save livio? vash outright says that he did it to protect what wolfwood fought for, sacrificed his life for. it's tied to the ongoing arc between vash and wolfwood, their conflict over the necessity of killing others. wolfwood pushed vash into having an understanding of his views when he was alive, demonstrating the necessity of that violence. simultaneously, vash inspired wolfwood to follow his path, a kinder one. vash remembers what wolfwood said to him, and his death gives those words added poignancy. wolfwood well and truly sacrificed everything to protect what he loved and fight for what he believed in. how can vash let that go to waste? he sacrifices something just as meaningful to himself, and he pulls the trigger. it brings him closer to wolfwood in a way he never was before. he understands now, fundamentally, what motivates people, motivated wolfwood, to act as he did when he took lives. there are so many other ways wolfwood is present in the story after his death i can't talk about all of them but it makes me so crazy

In my imagination of red and leaf being twins and both autistic I think the only reason leaf doesn't have the same totally blank 😐 face as red is because she did the age old classic of practicing facial expressions in the mirror every day until she learned the basic ones. She also made her default expression a smile 🙂 to seem more approachable.

Unfortunately since the expressions don't come naturally to her and she had to learn them, the can come off as exaggerated/overly dramatic. Which is fine for some people but others find it equally as off-putting as reds poker face. It makes her a little sad when people dislike her because of it bc shes doing her best to fit in but can't seem to get it right.

She puts a lot of effort into masking at least when she's a kid-teenager but once she's older and has made more solid friendships she can let herself relax and not need to stress about it so much, although in social situations she may still slip back into old habits.

Red does not mask and never really has. I choose 2 believe his mom was really supportive and accommodating so he wasn't forced to hide his autistic traits unlike leaf. This is because in my au they are twins but their parents split and leaf had to stay with their dad. Who is not as understanding as their mom.

Idk if he'd be actually horrible to her but he was not as patient or understanding as their mom + leaf also just craved more friends and wanted to be able to socialize more so she eventually learned how. Red is content with the 4 people he knows (mom, oak, daisy, green) and prefered to mostly be alone so he didn't have that motivating factor to do it.

He was very content with having one friend, green, but he was def lonley during their "rival" phase when green stopped hanging out with him and was focused on trying to prove himself in some way only he understood or worried about. Along with that is green also being the master of masking for the most part. I don't see oak as being particularly accommodating and patient with him so while Daisy probably was, she's also not a parent so she couldn't be responsible for caring for green the way oak should've been.

As they got older green also craved to be seen as cool and popular amongst his peers so he started masking heavily and also distanced himself from red. Unfortunately he realizes that being accepted for a fake version of himself by mainly strangers is actually very lonley and he misses their friendship 😢 but atp he probably figures red wouldn't wanna be friends again bc of how green ignored him for so long so I think they don't become close again until After the gym challenge "rivalry"/red dissapearing/reuniting years later. So they were both missing each other a lot but both felt unable to reach out bc of the distance that grew between them when green pulled away. Anyways tldr green pro masker leaf trying very hard to mask but struggling a bit and red rawdogging his autism never masked a day in his life.
