Just thinking about this tag from raindropcollector’s reblog. So interesting! I’ve got to find that video.

I’m often free, not always kind
Travelled a long way to find like minds
My soul was sullied, I had no fun
I felt, in this short time, my race had been run

you need to listen to Bruce Springsteen’s live albums not just his studio stuff because his crowd work has three modes it’s either “Clarence you should walk me on a leash” or “one time I fell down the stairs and I still think about it….do you still think about it?” or “this songs for my dad who only loved me sort of which was worse than not at all. he’s not in the crowd tonight. or maybe he is. if you see him please god tell me.” and before anyone can react to any of that he’s hootin and hollerin and Clarence Clemons is doing things with a saxophone that are now illegal in more than 15 US states

maybe it’s the underlying trauma or whatever but Tony getting just about any kid in his care/general vicinity and interacting with them immediately turns on the parental part of his brain and i think that’s funny as fuck
is he great at it? no. but he had Harley for like, a day, and basically became the Cool Mechanic Uncle-Guy to the kid. Peter? not even a year after so much as meeting the kid and he’s suddenly trying to “break the cycle” or whatever

crowning ronan lynch the undisputed pining king
#god he’s insufferable about it#(affectionate)#literally can’t go 2 sentences in ronan’s pov w/o a thought getting connected to adam#holy hell#the way maggie subtly introduces adam into ronan’s thoughts#increasing his presence in barely noticeable increments#it’s MASTERFUL#she starts with everything very subtly woven in metaphors and imagery and uncloaks it bit by bit#that you’ll only see for what they are if you’re really looking#she doesn’t hit you in the face with ‘ronan wants adam’#you get to feel ronan’s longing grow as you go along#it starts as ‘oh i’m thinking about him’#then ‘oh i’m thinking about him again’#‘oh wow i’m thinking about him a lot’#‘oh god i can’t stop thinking about him everything is him he’s everything’#and because maggie doesn’t introduce ronan’s fat crush on him from the get go as part of ronan’s character#you get to go on that journey of Noticing with ronan#which is fucking awesome#you get to pick up on his feelings at the same time he does#which is frankly insane and makes for such a rewarding reading experience#god maggie i have so much more appreciation for your talent as an older and more educated human#14 y/o me had no idea the quality of what she was reading#21+ me’s mind is BLOWN by the sheer craftsmanship of this series#but also that’s the whole point of this series: you’ll only be rewarded with finding things if you’re really willing to look.#june’s trc reread#pynch#ronan lynch#adam parrish#trc

never over the fact that han yoohyun remains also a victim of child neglect/abandonment/having adult responsibilities foisted upon him too young even as he grows up under yoojin’s care. it’s not yoojin’s fault, he did his best and he did good raising yoohyun but. you’re not supposed to be able to hurt your parent, you’re not supposed to learn how to manage your parent’s emotions/wellbeing/public image, you’re not supposed to have to fear for their physical safety and desperately try to figure out a way to protect them, you’re not supposed to be capable of real cruelty toward them, not supposed to be able to fuck up their life. but your parent is your brother who is only five years older than you, and suddenly the new and dangerous world demands you (you who are new and dangerous too) in its spotlight, and you are just a child and he was just a child. the world is so wholly unjust to both of them and i will never fault either for how their relationship was in shambles for three/eight years, even when han yoohyun makes his terrible decisions with terrible consequences, paving the road to hell. you’re not supposed to be able to hurt your parent like that. you’re not supposed to be a brother that he needs to rely on, just as much as you rely on him, both of you abandoned.
haven’t even mentioned yet how you’re not really human you don’t understand humans you try your best for your brother but you Don’t Get It, how and why society works and the full emotional harm its hatred can wreak. you might see it but you don’t get it like physical danger and there is so much of that latter danger in the world now. you might see him and keep tabs on him but you don’t get your brother, that he needs you like you need him because of the very fact that you need him and children realizing their parents are complete emotional beings is not something that should happen before you learn to stand on your own. and learning to stand on your own, paradoxically and inevitably, takes much longer when you are forced to grow up too fast. you are forced to mature too early and so you are immature in ways invisible. so many flavors of terrible responsibilities foisted upon them that no one should ever bear (raising a child while you are a child/the world is on fire and so are you/your parent also needs you to bear your shared emotional burden).
it’s so unfair. i’m bundling them both up in a blanket. han yoojin’s childhood was stolen away so he could give this simulacrum of a childhood to his brother but the world is terrible and yoojin is just a child too and it’s not possible it’s not his fault that the wonderful beautiful childhood he built is not, cannot be the bulwark in the face of brutal reality, that delicate childhood shaped by hands still so small too.

A snippet from a future fic I'll probably never write, where Steve is a widower with two teenage kids, and he and Eddie randomly meet up, rekindling their old flame. This is when they've been together a while:
“Thank you,” Steve says, coming up behind Eddie at the bathroom sink.
Eddie pauses, catching Steve's eye in the mirror. “What for?” he asks, mouth foamy with toothpaste.
Steve slips his hands along Eddie's hips, hooks his chin over Eddie's shoulder. “For loving my kids.”
“You don't—” Toothpaste dribbles down Eddie's chin and he stoops to spit what's left in his mouth into the sink, gathering his hair to one side. He rinses his mouth out, wipes his face with a towel, then turns to Steve. “You don't have to thank me for that. Of course I love them.”
“Not everyone I've dated has.”
“They're idiots.” Eddie grabs the hem of Steve's shirt, pulling him close. “I mean, first of all, they're part of you, and I don't think I could love you and not love them. But...” He trails off, a small smile tilting his lips. “They're amazing kids.”
Pride swells in Steve's chest; he slides his arms around Eddie's waist and says, “They are.”
“And I'm pretty damn honored I get to be part of their lives,” Eddie says, “so thank you,” and he butts his head gently against Steve's.
Steve huffs and slides his hands up Eddie's back, pulling him into a tight embrace. “I love you.” He presses a kiss to Eddie's neck.
“I love you too.”
“And they both love you as well.”
Eddie lets out a shuddering breath. Steve knows how nervous Eddie was, when they started dating, that he wouldn't be welcomed, but it's almost like he's always been part of their family now. “Good to know,"”Eddie says.
Steve holds Eddie a little tighter. All those years ago, back in Hawkins, when they ended things, Steve thought he'd never see Eddie again. But here they are, together—a family—and Steve's never letting him go this time.

In real life, the traddest men I know: change diapers; do chores; are present and playful with their kids; take good care of their wives; work 50+ hours a week to provide for their families; literally never think about the 1950s.

I’m just gonna say it, I wish the people who hate Essek with a troubling intensity and violence would grow a spine and actually directly say they hate the character Mercer created and his storytelling choices for that character instead of doing that awkward thing where they try to hate on the character by acting like he just manifests in the narrative spontaneously and outside of the control of the DM and players
