few things bring me as much joy as my rook's expressive capacity for sudden withering disdain. (he's looking at illario here, of course lmao.) he's so hey i'm just a little guy...🥺 coded most of the time and then someone says something dumb enough that the mask cracks for a moment and every line of him says 'that is the stupidest fucking thing anyone has ever said to me and I'm aggrieved to even have had to hear it'. rye is mostly very kind but there IS a bastard lurking in his head waiting to be let out as well. not just solas but solas too I suppose. two bastards in rye ingellvar's head they keep each other company and are trying to strangle each other as we speak 😌.

(vs. him looking over at lucanis a moment later during the same line delivery. since lucanis was actively into viago once I cannot imagine that getting to watch rye crack and be kind of mean to people who've earned it when too sorely tried is like. entirely without allure to him fhskjadf. witnessing illario pulling the old ingratiating 'rooook reason with him would you~ I'm the cousin with the charisma stats' routine and This being rook's response probably opened some as of yet ill-understood '...I think I hauve covid' corners of lucanis' soul. tfw your buddy has your back so completely (dawning erotic implications))

#rye 🤝harding: repressed rage that sometimes comes out in some not so pleasant ways when they get pushed too far lol #rye more so than harding I think I feel like he could get truly fucking MEAN under the right pressures #like what solas did for example :) but that's asshole against asshole combat and all bets are off anyway #I think he'd do borderline anything to not make it happen in close interpersonal relationships but like. to the point of his own detriment #kind of thing. who in this lighthouse can teach some of these little guys that anger can be felt and expressed in healthy ways #(probably davrin honestly he seems like a pretty safe dude to have conflict with. unflinching in his own view but fair and also kind)#dragon age #dragon age: the veilguard #dragon age: the veilguard spoilers #dragon age spoilers #oc: Ellaryen Ingellvar #rookanis #rook x lucanis #I find it really interesting how rook's expressions seem to kind of sit different on their face depending on how you make them btw!#rye has a sharp narrow little face and quite upturned corners of the mouth when neutral plus the makeup heightening the features #which I think might be what gives him that really pronounced curl of the lip that reads sort of disdainful/quite sharp #when that facial animation plays #where that expression doesn't come through as prominently on some other rooks I've seen #but they look more natural when they smile for example #fascinating to think about how that stuff plays into your impression of who your rook is!#this is the first da game where the facial animation has been good enough for that to really be a factor I feel #also wondering if that might have some part in how people have received other characters too honestly -- in previous games #almost all real emotional expressiveness has had to be delivered through dialogue and voice acting #b/c the animation really couldn't carry it off with any nuance the vast majority of the time. so people don't quite give the credence #to the details of expression of body language and face that they might have now that it's actually technically available to put in there #which is a shame b/c I've found a lot of delight in what the animation adds to the characterization in this game!#lucanis is a big example of that especially early on in the romance I feel but it pops up all over the place honestly!#anyway. all this to say. I love my rook very much I'm not sure I've ever been this badly oc blorbo brained before in my life lol #(hawke doesn't count b/c hawke almost feels too set to be an oc entirely. and we love them for that that's not in any way a criticism)

#yellowart #subnautica #i feel like the timelapse is kinda long but also this did take a long time to make #anyways. let me yap about the meanings of all the panels <3 #'i am creation' -> the ocean being the source of life and where shit evolved from also a good way to sort of 'set the scene' for subnautica #'both haunted' -> GHOST leviathan; in the BONE fields #'and holy' -> this one was a bit trickier. debated about using the emperor but i knew i wanted to use her elsewhere #also debated hoverfish because its cute and well liked so i thought that would be funny for 'and holy'#also something something jesus walking on water also makes it fitting. in the end though i decided on a peeper with the enzyme trail #and i *tried* to make it loop over its head like a halo but idk how well that imagery came through. still mentioned it in the alt text tho.#'made in glory' -> was REALLY torn about this one. on the one hand i wanted to have like a picture of the code because something something #divine machine and it being made out of code making it inherently holy or something; but i wasnt sure if that would be too #'immersion breaking' since most of the stuff in this is like in game stuff i wasnt sure if acknowledging that it was a game would be #too much. my other idea was to draw a couple of creature eggs like a stalker egg and a spadefish egg or something; but in the end i just #went with the one that i personally thought was cooler so if you think it does feel out of place uhhhh sorry i guess lmao.#also yes that is code from the game. idk shit about programming i just think code shit is cool so i poked though a modding tutorial til i #found what it is they use to look at that shit and started poking around. its pretty cool tbh. anyways the specific part i chose for the #drawing was something under the peepers; i think its the bit that tells the enzyme peepers to do the enzyme stuff like the trail obviously #but also some other stuff. not 100% sure though like i said idk shit about this sort of thing but everything in there seems pretty well #labeled its kinda impressive. and very helpful for navigating even if you dont know shit lol.#anyways. 'even the depths of the night cannot blind me' -> blood kelp trench is i think one of the darkest biomes in the game #possibly THE darkest so i thought it would be fitting. probably my least favorite panel though i dont think i did a very good job #representing the area or representing the bloodvines :/#'when you guide me' -> sea emperor but more specifically her messages to the player telling you to 'come here'#'creature only' -> not sure how well i can articulate this but basically the idea of humans beig animals with animal needs to eat and drink #and the idea of being a part of the ecosystem. modern life tends to make us forget that sort of thing but id imagine for ryley being on the #planet would violently remind him of this with things trying to eat him while he has to try to eat things as well. being part of the food #web. 'creature only' because he is only a creature not non-essential systems maintenance chief; but a creature living in an environment and #trying to survive. or something like that. does that make any fucking sense to anyone besides me? whatever.#anyways yapping over 👍

#little house #farmer boy goes west #i'm about halfway through and i'm fairly impressed #she seems to be making a legitimate effort to match some of the stylistic quirks of the original #there are pieces that are anachronistic or too modern #or elements that fit better into the laura books than the almanzo one #(mrs. wilder of farmer boy would not give an explanation of the history of jenny lind trunks even though caroline ingalls would)#there is a lot of focus on food (good)#perhaps a bit too much focus on horses (he wouldn't spend *all* his time thinking about starlight)#the throughline of 'what does he want to be' is stupid when we know he wants to be a farmer #the parents feel less old-fashioned than they did in the original #the sibling dynamics are pretty good (especially with alice)#there are some things that are fun in light of the later books but aren't obnoxious wink wink style foreshadowing #the author's note makes it clear that she did try to do her research and stick to real history and to laura's heavily altered timeline #and i can totally forgive her for a really shoehorned in conversation #because when you find out that the future founder of sears was in spring valley at the same time as almanzo #you *have* to stick that in no matter how clunky it is

so one of my skills in life is that i test very well, largely because of pattern recognition, and i realized today that it’s pretty detrimental to the medical evaluation process. i basically scored perfect on a hearing test today that ruled out some diagnoses, and i am only now going back over the process in my mind and realizing that i didn’t actually hear a bunch of stuff i said i did, i just knew the right answer because the pattern of words and beeps was a consistent speed and pattern and they told me in advance what words they were going to use so like? yeah?? of course i knew when to raise my hand and could figure out what word you were saying? anyway i got an A in hearing which is normal to want yet perhaps detrimental to achieve.

and i can’t really call them and go “sorry i think i outsmarted your test, like a dumbass” so if i notice my hearing getting worse i’ll call them back and get re-tested, and bring someone with me to be like “your goal is not to pass the test. repeat after me. your goal is not to pass the test.”

#i just like to ✨ impress people ✨ by getting all the answers right #and i can’t seem to turn that part of my personality off. fuck me. anyway #i havé à bunch of people in my life with hearing loss tho so i know that my hearing IS pretty good #and none of the stuff they discounted based on the test had cures anyway soooo no big loss #this poor woman like yeah tinnitus can be caused by literally anything and there’s nothing you can do about it #it might seem to go away but it’ll definitely come back and will continue to suck even though we don’t know what caused it. sorry #try not to stab yourself in the ear i guess #what a professional specialty to have man i feel for her #the symptoms

A lot of people talk down on Ren Faire folk for the fact that a good grip of us are trained in some form of combat discipline

#for me it’s archery #traditional mongolian style archery #none of that compound cheaters bow bullshit #but at our faire there are also dudes in full plate armor whacking each other with REAL weapons #and there are people who will teach you how to fuck it up with a sword (using foam ones)#and people who do jousting demonstrations too #and like sure the weapons may be fake and foam but the skills are very real #(except for the amor people they’re playing with fire)#ren faire #renaissance faire #also i’m a pretty damn good archer too #we run an archery stand at the faire #and being a woman i CONSTANTLY get macho douchebags asking me if i can actually shoot #as if they just let some random chick teach people how to use an actual live weapon #(consequently these dudes are NEVER good at it)#(and grumble when I demo with a bullseye)#((except the one adorable group of foreign exchange students who had the MOST fun and were SO impressed with me TT^TT))
