scary dog privilege with your old, gruff and scary sugar daddy!john price?
given you’re always a well mannered girl, you never cause conflicts, but if something were to happen with someone and you wanted to take advantage of your daddy being scary, old, intimidating and huge to just defend you?
maybe at the bar, a rude costumer not even lifting their eyes from the table as they ordered something else from you, without acknowledging your presence or saying hi, politely.
”another beer with ice,”
you decide to give him the benefit of the doubt, and tilted your head, speaking with your usual polite and sweet voice. “im sorry?” “another beer, at my table” same tone, same words, not even a smile.
clearly you hadn’t heard that wrong — your expression softened, and you lowered your notebook, looking like an upset bunny who’d just gotten offended,
you were always so sweet and kind with everyone, and john often tried to teach you that not everyone would always reciprocate your kindness, he wanted to warn you about mean, rude people who would upset his little girl :(
but you always got sad, not understanding why people couldn’t just be nice.
“no, sir, excuse me, i was waiting for you to say please, you could at least look at me you know..”
he frowned, narrowing his eyes like you’d said the most incoherent thing in the world, and gave you an ironic look “it’s your job to serve me a drink, dear”
you blinked your eyes, dumbfounded, hoping he’d understand what you were gently trying to say, keeping a low tone of voice “yes, and as a human being, your job is to be polite and kind? where are your manners?”
“little lady, what’s your problem? im paying you, you’re not giving me a gift, little girl”
“yet kindness is free,” you were undeterred, crossing your arms over your blouse and giving him an exasperated look, tilting your hip.
he shifted on his chair, crossing his legs together and throwing his arm behind the chair’s head. “let me speak with the manager, then”
“oh, you can speak directly to my boss, if you’d like” you shrugged, aware of how that situation would end up, and strolled down to john’s usual private table, walking calmly and quietly.
once in front of him, you leaned forward and pressed your hands flat against the wooden table’s surface, stretching your arms, wearing the most innocent and docile look “daddy,”
john turned his attention towards you, his half empty glass of whiskey trapped between his firm, thick fingers “there’s the love of my life, what is it, doll face?”
you leaned closer to him, tilting your head slightly, practically almost bending over his seat “a costumer wants to talk to you, he’s gonna complain about me because i wouldn’t serve him unless he asked politely,”
you blinked your dollish, doe eyes at him, so big and round and innocent they told him ‘take my defense and then fuck me, please’, a little pout making you push out your bottom lip.
”does he now…” john muttered under his breath, his warm eyes slowly taking in every inch of your figure, your lacy thigh highs and uniform skirt — he lifted is glass to let the liquid trail down his throat with a swift, fast seep, before setting it down “aight, doll, daddy’ll take care of it, princess, don’t worry”
he gripped the armrest of his chair, pushing himself up to a standing position, but you quickly reached for him and gently grabbed him by the sleeve
“he wasn’t mean, sir, he just didn’t want to say please and you know how much that upsets me..please don’t get angry at him” the way you furrowed your brows together was so adorable price had to physically restrain himself from just picking you up and throw you over his buff shoulders
but he gave you a little frown, lifting his hand to pinch your chin affectionately, grabbing it in between his forefinger and thumb “how many times have i told you you’re always too nice, love? people are gonna take advantage of that, doll”
you straightened your back, locking your hands together behind your back and lifted your chin, letting him squeeze your it again “but that’s why I have you to come rescue me, daddy…”
he let out a deep chuckle, briefly shaking his head before he let go of your chin with a last, little squeeze “these blokes can’t even let this poor old man rest in peace, how can someone be rude to such a sweet girl, they really like pissing me off huh? got the nerve to disrespect my girl”
and with that, he walked past you, towards the guy who’d just been too busy to ask you nicely, or say a simple ‘please’’ — but john had promised he’d never let anyone mistreat his polite girl’s manners, especially inside his own bar.

Sorry, it's me again. There's this thing that has been...whispering in the back of mind since I read this post for the first time. Nigel wrote: "... I removed a rat's heart and pretended to be disgusted" Why on earth would he feel the necessity to PRETEND to be disgusted in front of Alex?
I've taken a minute to answer this because it's a very good question but difficult and complicated to answer within the context of the film. For those who aren't sure what you're referring to, please see this post transcribing Nigel's notes.
The short answer is: I don't think the people making the props were entirely consistent with the character as scripted. I think most likely they were given some general directives (such as "make sure it highlights the words "egocentric megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur") Outside those few directives, they just sort of let their poetic license run free, injecting their own ideas of a what a "fucked up weird guy who dissects animals" would say into the text, and creating a different version of Nigel than the movie presents us with. The worst example of that is the newspaper article in Alex's book--which doesn't make ANY sense in the context of the film. No one really expected crazy fans to obsessively pause the movie and use photo enhancing techniques frame by frame to determine what was written in his journals or the text of the article, so I think there was a lot of leeway and perhaps some laziness when it came to the props.
It's hard for me to come up with an IN character justification for Nigel to have written that, because it doesn't gel with my observations of him as presented in the film. The journal entry itself is written before he is kidnapped by Alex and the dynamic of their relationship shifts. This IS the entry that made Alex angry enough to kidnap him and teach him a lesson in the first place. This is the Nigel who barely responds to Alex's confrontational anger over the dissection in the dorm room, the Nigel who seems to be completely unmoved by or even very aware of how his actions might impact others. He doesn't care enough to even consider what effect he has on others, and even if/when he is aware, I sincerely doubt he'd bother to *pretend* anything. Nigel doesn't seem interested in pretending to be anything other than what he is, a defining trait that causes him a lot of problems.
Later in the movie, Nigel does shift a bit into a more puckish role. He fucks with Alex in a variety of ways, very noticeably in the train scene when they're going to visit his secret room. He's playful, mischievously antagonistic, poking and prodding Alex and seeming to enjoy his discomfort. This demeanor is more in line with the kind of guy who might write about deliberately messing with his roommate's head. But I still don't know why he would feign disgust in the middle of the dissection given that he's been dissecting animals regularly and Alex would have no reason to think he's grossed out by it.
I suppose if we apply that puckish attitude backward and say that Nigel was already trying to mess with Alex even before the kidnapping, we could sort of squint our eyes and imagine him being very over the top Fake Disgusted as he waves the heart around in Alex's direction. I still don't find that very likely, but it's the best I've got.
If you wanted to, you could use this as part of a theory that Nigel was the real instigator all along and had been intending/planning to manipulate Alex from the moment he was transferred to the school and forced to share a room. In such a reading of the film, all of his behavior could be seen as pretense in some way, including his initial lack of reaction to Alex--calculated to rile Alex up, put him off balance, etc.
I don't personally buy in to that interpretation, just as I don't buy into Alex being the sole instigator. I think either reading ascribes far too much power and control to these teenagers, however intelligent and manipulative they may be. But if you want to go that route, here's a supporting piece to add to your puzzle.
Thanks for the ask and I hope this rambling mess makes at least some sense!
EDIT: please read my reblog of this post. @silhioutte pointed out the very obvious mis-read of this line.

star wars/arcane crossover with smuggler!sevika x bounty hunter!reader
a/n: IM REWATCHING ALL OF THE STAR WARS MOVIES AND SERIES GUYS IM NOT OKAY
sevika is a smuggler on paper for silco, who is part of the trade federation
along with being a smuggler, she also takes care of the trade federations dirty work under the radar as to not have the republic track it back to them
she doesn’t necessarily like the separatists, but the republic has taken a much too passive stance in the current war for her to get behind
she was a padawan under master vander until she was cast out from the jedi, who told her she let her emotions guide her too much for her to continue in her teachings
(side note: i feel like she would have a green saber)
which is how she ended up where she is today
you were a bounty hunter and took odd jobs here and there as they came up, but your latest job had you turning over a bounty in tattooine, the dust bowl of the galaxy
nursing a sweet drink after a job well done, you people watched from your little corner booth in an obscure bar that you couldn’t remember the name of
it was a pretty filled place for a midday crowd, other bounty hunters hogging the monitor looking for the catch of the day while others whispered in secret in the booths around you
suddenly, she walked into the bar
you’ve definitely seen her before, a pretty hefty bounty on her head from the republic that no one touched alas the consequences would be grave
still, she was easy on the eyes and you couldn’t help but check her out
she seemed to scan around the bar until she finally made eye contact with you
holding her gaze, you raise a brow as she strutted over to your table, sliding into the booth across from you
looking deep into her grey eyes, you leaned forward on your forearms and took a sip from your straw, pushing the cup away when it was emptied, “to what do i owe the honor of the presence of silco’s lapdog?”
she gave you an unamused look and nodded over to the bartender, who quickly set her signature drink in front of her, “got a proposition for you. you’re one of the best and silco only ones the best for this one. it’s a clean job that pays well. ‘s long as you don’t fuck it up.”
there was a soft whirring that surrounded her, no doubt coming from her infamous mechanical arm that silco had custom made for her to efficiently kill anyone who stood in her way. needless to say, you did not want to be one of those people.
you muller it over, the bartender replacing your drink with a fresh one as sevika tossed a handful of credits his way, “i’m glad my reputation proceeds me, but i’m not getting tangled up in the whole political bullshit that’s going on out there.”
sevika thoughtfully sipped her drink and sat back with her arms crossed, “we’re making a deal with your old friend ekko, figured it would go smoother with a familiar face.”
ekko? that was a name you hadn’t heard in a while. it would be nice to see him again, you hadn’t heard from him since he had moved to the outer rim
you took the drink in front of you and chugged it down, stalling the glass down on the table and holding out your hand, “you got a deal.”
she shook your hand with a firm grip and walked to the exit of the bar, a million eyes following her as she did
you suavely got up and followed her, saluting the bartender before pushing through the cloth covering the doorway
maybe when this was over, you could negotiate a new ship since the last one you had blew up in an intense chase
a/n: JINX AS A SITH AND VI AS A JEDI??? GUYS I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS

i didn't know there was a word for this, but it's something that's really gotten on my fucking nerves lately that i haven't been able to pin down. excuse my hyperempathy and cola-induced rant incoming. lots of swearing ahead. i am angry but not at manic, rather this specific issue. anyway, buckle up.
i have a bachelor's degree. that's great. that's fine. a big issue arises when my peers who also have bachelor's degrees treat those who don't as if they're lesser humans. it really became prevalent in my workplace lately. i am a manager at a bookstore/cafè. a not-insignificant amount of our employees are immigrants and high schoolers who don't yet have their diplomas. (i believe we have a couple of dropouts as well but that's not my business and i'm not gonna ask them because there's no point. they do their jobs just fine and they're good people, and that's all i as their supervisor can ask for.)
unfortunately, they are often treated like they're not worth listening to. literally at all. they are sometimes blown off by other management staff even though their ideas are genuinely very often some of the best when it comes to how we should do things or new ways to accomplish our tasks. they have to run it through me and i have to communicate it to other managers as if i came up with it for their ideas to even be heard sometimes and the only difference is that i happen to have a very expensive piece of paper with my name on it. (i guess also i'm their boss, but other employees who do have their diplomas/certifications/etc. do not have to use me as the store carrier pigeon, so my position really has nothing to do with it.) it's been pissing me off for months and i haven't been able to put a name to it beyond "prejudice with a dash of some other academia flavor of privileged asshattery".
a degree or diploma is great if you can afford it and higher ed is a good path for you. however, it's also just a piece of paper that has absolutely no bearing on your worth as a human being overall and i've been sick of people acting like this towards my staff. they're not any less capable than i am of having a good idea or valuable insight. they're not lesser humans whose every word should be ignored.
the same goes for children and how we as a collective society treat them. kids are brilliant and creative little people. just because they're small and less educated does not make them any less worthy of your attention and it certainly does not make them any less deserving of kindness and respect. what are we teaching people by being cruel to those who haven't had the opportunity to learn yet?
anyway. all this to provide an anecdote with a reiteration: it's such a prevalent issue! thank you for spreading the word (literally) because now i can call it out for exactly what it is.
Educationism
Here's a word I learned recently that I want to share with tumblr. Educationism is the word for discrimination against less educated and uneducated people as well as the biases that higher educated people have against less educated and uneducated people.
Educationism is something I have experienced for a long time (first as a SPED kid and then as a highschool dropout with no diploma or GED) but never had the words to talk about and that really frustrated me a lot.
Educationism is something I wish more people would talk about. It's something that comes up all the time even in casual conversation, and even moreso in more heavy or discourse-y conversations.
Often I even see people trying to be allies especially to queer or trans or intersex folk and they end up engaging heavily in educationism - which is really draining for me as a queer, trans, intersex person who is not formally educated. (For example - "I bet TERFs didn't even pass highschool biology", a statement which both fails to acknowledge and hold accountable that TERFs make an active choice to be bigoted and frames not passing a class in highschool as the reason why TERFs exist, which gets tiring very fast as someone who very much did not get good grades or pass classes in highschool and yet is very much not a TERF.)
Being less educated or uneducated is constantly used as an insult and education is used as a measure of how much worth a person has and how good of a person they are, I am constantly put down for not being formally educated. Being formally educated, especially on a college level, also provides value to one's words and thoughts - Nobody wants to hear what a highschool dropout has to say, because they assume we simply aren't worth speaking to or hearing out.
When others learn that I am not formally educated, immediately they assume that I am lesser of a person than them, that I am lazy or simply don't try hard enough to become formally educated, that my life does not matter as much or is not as good as theirs, and that I am not to be taken seriously.
Additionally, I don't think higher-educated people really realize how little rights you have when you are not formally educated. It doesn't matter how much I actually know in practice, how much I read and study, how much unpaid labor or volunteer work or community work I perform, because I do not have a highschool diploma or equivalent the amount of things that I am allowed to do is severely limited.
Many areas of life, including large ones like getting a job or going to college, are largely not accessible to me because I do not have a highschool diploma or equivalent.
I also have to deal with quite a massive amount of social stigma and discrimination, and it feels isolating to not see anybody in my communities talk about it, especially in communities which are otherwise very welcoming and accepting and anti- various forms of bigotry.
So, here's me putting myself out there a bit in hopes that educationism as a term might be picked up and passed around more and maybe others might discuss it and learn something about it.
#i'm using general 'you' in most of this post not 'you' as in manic#educationism#discourse#syscourse#<- putting it there because this NEEDS to be talked about

It is amazing how the "people that love and uplift transwomen" website will instantly fucking maul a transwoman if she even remotely insinuate that using radfem rhetoric harms trans people
#this is about punkitt making a post literally just saying ''you shouldn't treat masculinity as a threat because it harms trans people''#and straight up getting death threats over it#how is it so hard for people to understand that treating masculinity as a threat directly harms transwomen#that it treats transwomen who show any sort of masculinity as a failure#it reminds me of trans people on 4chan because it enables so much self-loathing#you cannot argue ''men/masculinity are inherently evil'' and claim it's different from radfem/TERF rhetoric because you're trans#it just projects unrealistic body standards onto women#many women including cis women have masculine traits. I know women who have stubble and grow shittons of body hair#like—''biological sex'' is NOT a binary it is a social construct just like any other#and also only hyper focusing hate on masculinity because of patriarchy isn't an effective way of addressing patriarchy at all#hating a group of people based on their traits is not the same as being progressive. acknowledging—and more importantly. teaching people—#—and how it gives them certain privileges over others and to call it out and dismantle those systems is so fucking powerful you have no idea#also I'm going to be so for real with you. the vast majority of transmen do NOT have the privilege you think they do#it's the privilege of being able to pass more than anything. which any trans person would know thats really fucking hard!!!#I love rambling in the tags so much it's so great#sorry for this lol#queer discourse#also addendum: when I say 'women' it's all encompassing. if anyone gets pissy at me for saying 'women' and thinking I'm not including —#—transwomen in that then I'm killing you! you are the problem!

Actually the hatred of men not only harms Trans men and mascs but Trans women too. In our cis-normative oppressive society, Trans women aren't seen as real women, just "men in dresses" and bullshit like that. The hate and fear of men within queer/trans spaces is extremely harmful.
#Like okay sure I get how folks have been hurt and harmed by men. I do.#That's not because men are “inherently violent” or “evil”#It's because the way society pressures and normalizes men to behave#That they *have* to be violent or else they aren't useful. Or else no one will want them.#WHICH ISNT TRUE. EVER.#it's the content young children consume that cause these things to happen.#It's growing up in war.#Whether that war is bombs and bullets or loud voices and fists or silence and booze#It's lacking kindness and second chances and teaching and letting children grow#That's your enemy#Not the random strawman you made but the people who uphold the wars and hatred#transandrophobia#transmisandry#transmisogny#misoginy#Transgender#transgender man#transgender women#transgender pride#nonbinary#Queen#Genderqueer#politics#It's all political#Whatever your interpretation may be of political#trans solidarity#We are literally all under the same fucking boot

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you
#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what#allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of#the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than#to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do#im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt#take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was#mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their#mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that#explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain#direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in#arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to#engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out#theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive#a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked#picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing#sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example#for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war#is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old#wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for#steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with#especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can#look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never#treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time#but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made#feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them#accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me#yapping#diary

Yeah. Literally the key to total happiness as a woman is
1) be very sparkly and wear nice makeup that you like and don't be afraid to cut your hair very short like Audrey in Roman Holiday or grow it very long like Lucrezia Borgia
2) never allow any boy to mean anything to you other than a momentary distraction.
Literally being aromatic but sexual must be like walking around with a bunny suit through a nuclear blast zone like
....
This is not a place of honor
I was thinking and like
Men in a bad relationship are like "she left me and I didn't think she was that unhappy" or "she cheated." And they have one. A lot of them it's not even that it's like "she didn't date me she dated some other guy" or like "I didn't ask her out so she didn't try to date me but I still enjoy talking about how miserable she is with that other guy."
Every woman I know has had one relationship at least with a man where she had to completely restart her entire life like
AA.
Hurricane Katrina
Oh well imagine you move to fucking Texas to be near his dad cuz you've been together for years and you pack up your car and then he chimes in with I don't really think I considered our compatibility before
On tiktok?
You saw that girl?
Yeah.
Literally there is a girl I know who met her husband when they were little kids. She had one other guy she dated briefly in high school and he SA'd her.
The other happy couple I know real well, they dated for a while and her ex husband was abusive and she moved back home and he was there single like in a hallmark movie.
Like...
I can't name one woman who hasn't had a relationship with a man where like
She had no reason to suspect this guy was a piece of shit unless you wanna use Jesus freak rules and plenty of people are normal who have casual sex and plenty of Jesus freaks abuse their wives that's not a real test. And this guy literally
Lost her friends lost her job lost all her savings lost her money lost this that and the other thing.
Like
Literally feeling anything for men is a sickness and we should all endeavor to teach women that romantic love is a lie and a poison and assume anyone claiming to be in love with her hates her and wants to systematically ruin anything and everything she likes about herself.
We should be giving women pills that make them able to fuck but not fall in love.
I'm not exaggerating.
Literally if you just refuse to ever fall in love you can be Audrey or Marilyn or Brigette or Lana Del Ray and eat ice cream and go to parties and wear flowers and have a lovely little rose scented scratch and sniff desk set or something, and if you fall in love you will become a miserable psychotic wreck- hopeless, helpless, friendless, and unable to care for yourself like and adult.
Literally we should teach women to jump into the river when they fall in love. It would be less catastrophic. It's like volunteering to be raped and lose all your money and friends and investments and connections and also to become ugly.
You can be happy forever if you literally just see all men as interchangeable penises.

Well... Thats all I have to say

Can confirm I had a relatively extremely competent stay at home father who made sure to limit TV time and read to me and encourage very precocious literacy that I think did me a lot of good... But in terms of basic life skills that stuff just didn't even come up I guess it was just assumed that I'd magically osmose stuff like "it's important to brush your teeth twice a day" when I was 8 lmao (I'm 26) and these are with solidly Gen X parents!
I've heard this from people your age a LOT and it's not your fault. but isn't it so weird to think about? that you'd have a kid and then be like well I'm sure they can figure out how to make spaghetti and pay rent do laundry on their own, I won't waste their time. of course if you only teach a kid one thing then how to read is a good one because you can find out almost everything else by readjng i guess
#asks#childrearing#you have to teach them how to make spaghetti with sauce from a jar at least#i think this is one reason so many people are desperately needing doordash money on here#not all of them of course but it does seem to account for at least some#which again is not their fault#i just saw a 20 year old on this website who moved out and didnt know how to use a can opener#but the thing is they also didnt know how to find out how to use a can opener#so instead of lookng at the picture on the can opener label that showed how to use it#or watch a YouTube#or ask someone#they just assumed it would be fine and completely fucked it up?#multiple layers of child neglect going on there

#its crazy how people will assume she is all the tropes she subverts and then ignore her#also how sympathy for circle mages’ indoctrination only lasts until they get old i guess and then fuck them#because its not as if they were ever a terrified child who’d never had anything better than a single templar’s mildest kindness and any kind#of home even if it was the tower#so an orphan kid who had no memory of anything but scurrying between farmsteads and hiding in barns#didnt want to leave. what a shock. you guys dont get the place comfort has in keeping circle mages complicit#so it’s violent and terrible and you never have privacy and your children get murdered and you’re always watched and hated#its also a warm bed and community and a chance to succeed#do you honestly think every kid from fucking THEDAS knows theres anything better out there#that doesnt make the circle good. it makes it horrific that they prey on vulnerable kids to teach them the world hates them#and only the circle is ‘safe’#i just think there should be some sympathy for those kids and what they grow up into#its easy for the player to walk in and say their character would hate the circle and never have listened to the templars#its easy for say an amell or even a surana with a family back home to not fear what they left behind#wynne genuinely thinks without the circle mages would all be murdered and she’ll fight and die protecting her fellow mages#from the right of annulment#yes its a flaw that she goes on to teach others the circle must be tolerated and that is precisely how the circle is perpetuated ove#over generations#but its amazing to me to just act like its her fault#well. this is more tags than i expected it to be

few things bring me as much joy as my rook's expressive capacity for sudden withering disdain. (he's looking at illario here, of course lmao.) he's so hey i'm just a little guy...🥺 coded most of the time and then someone says something dumb enough that the mask cracks for a moment and every line of him says 'that is the stupidest fucking thing anyone has ever said to me and I'm aggrieved to even have had to hear it'. rye is mostly very kind but there IS a bastard lurking in his head waiting to be let out as well. not just solas but solas too I suppose. two bastards in rye ingellvar's head they keep each other company and are trying to strangle each other as we speak 😌.
(vs. him looking over at lucanis a moment later during the same line delivery. since lucanis was actively into viago once I cannot imagine that getting to watch rye crack and be kind of mean to people who've earned it when too sorely tried is like. entirely without allure to him fhskjadf. witnessing illario pulling the old ingratiating 'rooook reason with him would you~ I'm the cousin with the charisma stats' routine and This being rook's response probably opened some as of yet ill-understood '...I think I hauve covid' corners of lucanis' soul. tfw your buddy has your back so completely (dawning erotic implications))
#rye 🤝harding: repressed rage that sometimes comes out in some not so pleasant ways when they get pushed too far lol#rye more so than harding I think I feel like he could get truly fucking MEAN under the right pressures#like what solas did for example :) but that's asshole against asshole combat and all bets are off anyway#I think he'd do borderline anything to not make it happen in close interpersonal relationships but like. to the point of his own detriment#kind of thing. who in this lighthouse can teach some of these little guys that anger can be felt and expressed in healthy ways#(probably davrin honestly he seems like a pretty safe dude to have conflict with. unflinching in his own view but fair and also kind)#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#oc: Ellaryen Ingellvar#rookanis#rook x lucanis#I find it really interesting how rook's expressions seem to kind of sit different on their face depending on how you make them btw!#rye has a sharp narrow little face and quite upturned corners of the mouth when neutral plus the makeup heightening the features#which I think might be what gives him that really pronounced curl of the lip that reads sort of disdainful/quite sharp#when that facial animation plays#where that expression doesn't come through as prominently on some other rooks I've seen#but they look more natural when they smile for example#fascinating to think about how that stuff plays into your impression of who your rook is!#this is the first da game where the facial animation has been good enough for that to really be a factor I feel#also wondering if that might have some part in how people have received other characters too honestly -- in previous games#almost all real emotional expressiveness has had to be delivered through dialogue and voice acting#b/c the animation really couldn't carry it off with any nuance the vast majority of the time. so people don't quite give the credence#to the details of expression of body language and face that they might have now that it's actually technically available to put in there#which is a shame b/c I've found a lot of delight in what the animation adds to the characterization in this game!#lucanis is a big example of that especially early on in the romance I feel but it pops up all over the place honestly!#anyway. all this to say. I love my rook very much I'm not sure I've ever been this badly oc blorbo brained before in my life lol#(hawke doesn't count b/c hawke almost feels too set to be an oc entirely. and we love them for that that's not in any way a criticism)

I just need a piece of media that combines:
The humor and feeling of community we got from S1 of OFMD
The storytelling, world, and humanity behind Disco Elysium
Izzy Hands just for fun
You know?
#I want an essay on how media handles a protagonist who HAS fucked up and how to have it MATTER- Harrier DuBois vs. Edward Teach#FUCK: you can play the entire game not 'fucking up'. You can quit drinking and doing drugs. But Harry still fucked up#People still KNOW what Harry did before you stepped in. They hold grudges. They're mad. ITS AMAZING#I'm just saying that I want a Disco Elysium that doesn't make me feel EVERY feeling at once.#But as for the post idea itself: the answer is just Izzy-focused fanfic written by the community#I KNOW#I WRITE THEM#but that's not the point. I want my very specific taste in media to be catered to IMMEDIATELY- you know?#ofmd#ofmd season 2#izzy hands#not tagging this as Disco Elysium#BUT I highly recommend looking into it- EVEN JUST A VIDEO ESSAY#ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN IZZY FAN

"it's the same in other countries" no the fuck it is not. "yeah in my entirely different field it's exactly the same" no the fuck it is not. literally any anecdote i tell about my (limited!) teaching experience gets me a starbucks drive thru meme response. it is NOT the same. you do not fucking get it.
#even my grandma who I love and respect was like well the problem is that they aren't making reading fun#you have to read a boring book and write a report on it. it sucks#and i was like okay but that's not it anymore. students get choices in books and choices in assignments.#and yet no matter what you do the teacher is still likely to fail at teaching a kid to love reading because reading is less fun than tiktok#and no one else in their life is saying hey man you need to 1) know how to read and 2) learn how to do things even when you don't like them#i had so many kids say well xyz isn't interesting to me. and I'd say okay let's find you something you're interested in#but they couldn't come up with anything either. if they did it didn't stick#I don't mean this as a kids these days. i mean this as a society these days is not encouraging appropriate behavior#it's encouraging the worst in people#and it's not a teacher's job to fix that#(not that you can fix people but ykwim)#i don't want to be an alarmist but i do think things are getting worse and people are behaving worse#and will continue to do so until it becomes cool/rewarding to be a decent fucking person#ugh. sorry. sorry.#big rant. but i saw someone say dog grooming runs people down just as badly as teaching does#I don't doubt that dog grooming is a difficult job sometimes but like. it's not the same as working 60-80 hour weeks with a masters to be#treated like shit. idiot shit in fact. by anyone and everyone because you cannot do ANYTHING.#you can't do anything about it. you are the punching bag of kids and parents and admin and the school board and every asshat online#and you could be perfect and yet years later there will be some asshat online saying you ruined their life#and everyone will say oh yeah I had a teacher that ruined my life too school is so fucked up they didn't teach me anything#ok. sure.#and you just have to sit there and take that#UGH#i was trying to wrap up the rant and it got worse#anyway. please. PLEASE. be kind to teachers. yes teachers specifically.#teachers have a singular job and no comparison really holds up to what teaching in a us public school is actually like

Hey so do you know where I could find this acting manifesto of yours?
I usually try and avoid publicly expressing my opinion on things like this but I recently saw some people commenting negatively on his acting again and I’m starting to doubt my own judgement.
I’ve truly never had a huge problem with his acting but I keep seeing people using really harsh words to describe his prior and current work. I genuinely think he’s doing a good job in THK but these comments sometimes make me think I’m missing something.
That conflicts with the fact I know at least three people he worked with on THK specifically had positive things to say about his acting too and I trust people who do this for a living to know what they’re talking about for the most part.
I guess I’m just looking for your post to have a more detailed perspective of the opposite viewpoint to “he’s a terrible actor” to help affirm some of my thinking so I’m more confident in my positive opinion of his acting.
Overall though I’m enjoying everyone in this show but for me I’m specifically enjoying the four mains the most. Kudos to them honestly.
(Disclaimer: Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but the harshness of some of the opinions took me off guard a little.)
fuck these people. they don't know shit.
(mind you. this manifesto was written based on his performance in just star in my mind and hidden agenda. his 2024 shows weren't even out at that point. in fact, thk hadn't even been publicly announced yet. you can see from the start there is talent in this boy if you actually know what to look out for)
bonus: i rant some more in the last reblog
#''i trust people who do this for a living to know what they're talking about'' <- yeah. exactly#i'm only semi-qualified bc i don't actually do this for a living#(yet. not yet‚ hopefully)#but i do have a diploma in acting#and i had two fantastic teachers who made a point of teaching us students how to analyze acting performances#on my last class with one of these teachers he actually told me i'd make a good director based on the feedback i'd give my peers in class#i'm not saying you need to trust my acting opinions and that they are the only correct™ ones (god no)#but my opinions likely have more legitimacy than those of the majority of fans (and haters)#anon you mind collecting some of the harsh things that are being said? i wanna know if they even come with receipts#asks#anon#airenyah no. 1 dunk defender#dunk natachai#adrm#yeah istg. if i keep hearing (about) people talking shit about dunk's acting#i may write a part two of this manifesto once thk is over and i'm done with my weekly style meta project#also!! sometimes he DOES mess up!! sometimes things don't go that smoothly!!#BUT SO WHAT#it's mostly individual instances#like his monologue in the thk ep8 crying scene#that was the first time in the entire series so far where i was like ''kid this is not your finest moment you can do better than this''#(the build up was wrong‚ he stayed on the same level and acted out mostly the obvious)#(it would have been more interesting if he hadn't gone into the monologue with a whiny voice from the first second on)#(the emotional arc would have been more interesting and the drop down to the crying would have been bigger and more effective)#anyway. he's ACING this role and my style metas are basically a love letter to his acting too#because i wouldn't be able to write 10k(+) words on style every week if the things weren't there in his performance#anyway fuck these people i think most of them have decided to hate dunk from the start or are parroting their friends' words#they'll just hate whatever he does on principle bc they don't actually care#and they don't care to look at his improvement either bc they just hate him on principle#anon don't let their words drag down your enjoyment of dunk's performance!! because i'm telling you there is SO MUCH JOY to be found!!!!!!

fun fact all those people who talk about how type 4 hair and dealing with it sucks are right but in a nuanced way where it’s actually systemic racism’s fault and not anything about our hair itself making it uniquely shitty
#the adas speak#we’re not taught anything about our hair. not only that but we’re taught everything about our hair is bad#it’s messy and unprofessional and ghetto. especially with the milennial generation who were raised on relaxers and perms#they were taught from so young to be ashamed of their hair. we were taught that our hair is unmanagable#and never given the chance to learn. it wasn’t all of us but a fuck ton of us in the US just. don’t know shit#and like. when the only people we know who can do hair are braiders we pay#i don’t think that’s really the kind of relationship where you can ask them to teach you. there is usually a relationship there#but idk if it’s ‘we’re friends over clients. let me lose business for you’ close ykwim. at least not all the time#so you’re learning on youtube. hating it bc it doesn’t make sense#you’re grown. you should know how to do your hair by now. but you don’t.#you’ve got like. all the racism and antiblackness building up. and it feels like they’re right. but they’re not! no one taught you!#but you can’t learn! you don’t know who to ask. and it’s a cycle of trying and getting frustrated and giving up and feeling guilty#and presumably if you’re tenacious enough you figure it out eventually but until then it’s just all these negative feelings that build up#like. our hair is arguably some of the easiest to deal with when our ancestors came up with so many ways to style it#the fact that i can spend a few hours in a salon and barely touch my hair for 2+ months is actually the epitome of convenience#and that’s also true of natural hair. maybe like a month instead but who else can go without touching their hair for a fucking month#but we are/were told that it’s so unmanagable and difficult when if we’d ever been properly taught it would be a fucking cakewalk#now. on one hand i’m being dramatic and emotional bc the dozens of tutorials i watched weren’t detailed enough for my incompetent ass#but on the other hand i’m literally right and this is systemic racism in action#i mean tbh i probably wouldn’t have done my hair regardless bc i didn’t care about my appearance and also was getting child abused#but i’d have a fuck ton more people to teach me in person if not for racism now wouldn’t I? my point still stands
