#i am so bad at character description tho

i am once again thinking about the hilichurl rogue :(

the first time i fought it was actually yesterday after climbing a mountain in fontaine cause i wanted to see what it was and the drops really reminded me of neanderthal flower burials + how both neanderthals and hilichurls are/have been seen as primitive beings despite tons of evidence to the contrary (ignoring what we know about khaenri'ah since the curse of the wild seems to cause them to be catatonic for a period of time).

theres tons of literature on how neanderthals actually appear to be similar to homo sapiens and have higher mental functioning as evidenced through their tools, their presumed social structures (taking care of injured/disabled neanderthals rather than abandoning them as would be thought of beings focused only on survival), but most notably for this the evidence of "flower burials" at Shanidar.

Basically, two neanderthals were found buried in primarily medicinal flowers (indicating their possible role in their group). I believe there were 11(?) other neanderthals found there who appeared to have been crushed by rockfall whos ages (if my memory is correct) were from around 7 to mid 40s. The reason i bring this up is because of one of the flowers found at Shanidar: Achillea/Yarrows. I find these flowers to be fairly similar in appearance of the petals (excluding size) to the hilichurl rogues drops

Now, each drops description:

A Flower Yet to Bloom "a wildflower that a hilichurl rogue treasured. it was plucked before it could bloom. the hilichurl takes nothing with it in its sojourn across the wilderness save this flower."

Treasured Flower "a wild flower that a hilichurl picked bereft of any special qualities. flowers can be used as gifts or offerings to express ones feelings in many cultures"

for this description in specific i would actually like to quote Ralph S Solecki's "The Implications of the Shanidar Cave Neanderthal Flower Burial"

"Under normal circumstances, today, in many cultures, flowers and death go together, as one can see a funeral corteges and burials. The association of flowers as tokens of esteem, respect, or for the joy of looking at [...]. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, 'the flower has been a universal symbol of beauty in the civilizations of the world. Confucius included its cultivation among the arts that were essential to a man of culture.' We pride ourselves thinking that we know a lot about Neanderthal man, but the association of flowers with Neanderthals adds a whole new dimension to our knowledge of him, and his humanistic nature."

1. NEVER DELETE ANYTHING YOU WRITE. Even if you think its bad, do not delete it. i promise you'll think about it later and regret everything

2. Actions speak louder than words. lemme explain: instead of saying smth like "he looked at her with confusion" which is BORING...you could say something like "his brows furrowed, his eyes squinted" etc etc. I struggle with this alot but it makes the story so much better

a tip that works for me: act out the emotions you're trying to depict. Do something you would do if you were feeling what the character is feeling, and try to describe it as well as you can)

3. Read more !!! Novels, fanfics, short stories, anything you enjoy, especially if they have a writing style you like. This will improve your grammar, your wordflow, and overall make your writing better. I remember i read SO many different fics before I started writing my own and it made writing so much easier because i knew exactly what i wanted my work to sound like (please don't plagarize tho)

4. Contrary to popular belief...there is such a thing as too descriptive. It's one to talk about how a bedroom looks, but it is a COMPLETELY different thing to describe each and every wrinkle on the blanket. Even if your writing is amazing, it can get tedious. Find a middle ground

Musical warrior ages

I know this is such a useless detail that adds nothing to the plot but I just wanna guess the age order of the Warriors lol

(putting a read more because it got long. I always prefer more sentences as opposed to a couple words so here you go)

Oldest:

Cleon-probably safest bet since she's the leader. also gives off peak mom vibes like you cannot tell me she wasn't hugging the shit out of the girls when they reunited. I love how mature her voice sounds in the album and I love how they made her more motherly. not to say that movie Cleon wasn't also caring, he's definitely a tough love kinda guy tho as both didn't hesitate to put themselves in front of their members so they could get out safely.

Cochise: Just going off her character description (in the movie or musical can't remember) I know I read that she was the most loyal to Cleon's trust in Cyrus which makes me feel they've probably been through a lot together. She was immediately ready to go back for Cleon after they hid in the cemetery. unfortunately Movie Coshise and Musical Cochise don't have a lot to do in their stories which sucks because I can't think of any fun facts from the game or movie that didn't get added to the musical (justice for our girl) though I can safely say Cochise feels a little more mature and put together than the girls I think are younger but she still has her moments so I feel she's younger than Cleon.

(ok these next three could probably be interchangeable so I feel like they would all be around the same age,)

Swan: Swan was so hard for me to place but I think this is a good spot for her, not the oldest and not the youngest, but I'd like to think there's a bit of an age gap between her and the next oldest Cochise. I think it'd be funny that as Cleon's right hand man she's more mature than her other same age cohorts so a popular rebuttal she will often hear when she calls them out for being 'immature' is 'you're literally the same age as us'. Swan doesn't have a lot of changes character wise in the genderbendification, but I think the musical format helps a lot to flesh her out ('woodlawn cemetery' and 'light or something' are examples that come to mind)

Cowgirl: I def get middle child vibes from her and Ajax especially. as for ages I feel like these 3 all were born in at most 2 years of each other. I like how she and Ajax egg each other on to incite chaos. she and Ajax are def the wild childs, they give Swan and Cleon constant headaches frfr, I feel Cowgirl and Cochise are in the same boat as the game and Movie did not give the musical a lot to work with. Like I think in the movie his defining characteristic was that...he had a cowboy hat. at least musical Cowgirl tells us why lol. movie and musical cowboy are def the more laidback and comedic of the warriors, and a small detail I appreciate is that in the song 'sick of running' Ajax is singing and Cowgirl and Cochise are providing backup, I'm assuming in vocals and in fists, which I think reference that (I think in a deleted scene of the movie) Cochise, Ajax and Cowgirl were recruited to be the designated fighters/soldiers if things go south.

Ajax: see, this is where the interchangeable comes in, because I don't know if I picture her as the youngest of the middle trio but I feel like she could be anywhere. I feel like her and Swan being close in age works for her initial challenging of Swan's leadership even though I know age in America isn't as hugely important as it is in other cultures. In the movie (and games) I think Swan and Ajax work as parallels in to me (movie versions) visually they look similar, and they look the same age, but it is Ajax's temper that gets in the way of her being able to take on responsibility the way Swan can. I am so thankful of the changes to Ajax's character and the recontextualizing of her character from a female perspective, Like movie ajax is easily worst character of a whole bunch of bad (morally) characters but musical Ajax is def a top 3 character in this.

Mercy: I'm adding her anyways, she becomes a warrior at the end. I feel like maybe she is closer in age to the middle children trio but still a little younger, I think maybe her willingness to completely change the course of her life after ✨women✨ makes me lean into a more younger, 'newer' Mercy than someone who's older than Swan but that's just me. Like Mercy def feels like she's going through her 'holy crap I forgot women could be an option phase' which I think helps her come across as not one of the older members.

Rembrandt: If I only had the musical to go off on I would say Rembrandt gives off peak little sibling vibes, but I also have the movie to go off of as well (and the video game hehehe) and I will instead say that Rembrandt gives off peak little sibling vibes. I feel like she looks and acts younger than she actually is (especially compared to Fox ) but still is incredibly street smart and observant. Fun Fact in the games Rem is actually the newest member of the gang, she only officially became a member like 3 months before the events of the movie. despite her not being a huge presence in the musical I think relistening to it with the context that Rembrandt has literally only been with in the gang for a few months gives some new meaning to some of her lines. basically she is my baby and she is def the gang's baby despite not actually being the youngest lol.

Fox: I mean, she literally mentions it in her rap, we all knew where she would fall in the age order lol. I also think this means she at least is a year younger than the next oldest, as again, age isn't that huge a factor in north america. what I mean is that in the musical, each girl gets about 2 lines to tell the audience as much about themselves in their rap. I feel like that wouldn't be something she would mention if she was only a couple months younger. I like that she seems more mature than some of the other members (Cowgirl, Rembrandt) but still has her moments that remind you, oh yea she literally is the youngest of a group of presumably young women. like how she's easily influenced by food, and especially in the song 'reunion square' where she sings 'why can't we just go back home' like damn she really was just a girl that wanted to go back home and be with her family :(

ok! so i know that you're not to try to motivate yourself with punishment, however: i cannot argue with the results. also, @failonade asked, and who am i to deny the people in my phone the right to make fun of me?

most of this is under a cut because i cannot imagine it will be interesting to most people, but two or three of you will think it's hilarious.

why am i using a silly wip game to organise my stuff? well. because i am, generally, not much of a writer. when i'm working on things—like, for work, etc—they always end up with a standardised name, and i take notes as needed in either a notebook or a text file entitled 'work', as the vibes suit. this is not especially descriptive, but ctl-f for keywords gets me where i need to be, and it's fine!

unfortunately. this meant that when, for the first time in nearly a decade, i considered writing something, i thought to myself, 'it's fine! just stick it in a file called fic!'

it's worth taking a moment here to tell you that one of the things i enjoy about notepad++ is that it autosaves your tabs. they're not saved saved, but when you open the program again, they're in the same state. unless something went catastrophically wrong at some point. but usually they're in the same state! i mention this only because i have a bad habit, especially with work-related things, of simply closing notepad++ and telling myself that it will preserve things for me, something that works well 99% of the time and completely loses all the information that i'd made note of the remaining 1% of the time.

and so, for a minute, i did fic notes more or less the same way i take notes for work-related things: just an unsaved text file with no real headers or organisation, and nothing to mark the transitions between projects, because i can obviously tell that by keyword.

you may, at this point, have spotted the error that i did not: if one is writing several fics about the same show, there are not, in fact, easy keywords in the text that will tell you which bits were intended with which fic.

so i again, cleverly, thought, well, the solution to this is to use more text files, obviously. simply make one for every project.

an interesting thing about living in the future is the way that everything's so connected. people move seamlessly between locations and devices and you never even notice it happening, because everything is so connected. is my friend on the train while we're talking? on her sofa? at work? quite possibly all three, and on my end, this is entirely unnoticeable.

however, i am, it turns out, also a people! but do you know what is not connected? that's right. text files, especially if you are the sort of person who simply does not believe in saving text files, and believes in your heart that if the contents disappear, it's a sign that you should just let it go.

at this point, some people might stop and think, 'are all these text files really necessary? maybe there's a better way!'

that's quitter talk, tho. what i thought was 'yeah, i mean, i'll just add bits in my notes app or in my private discord server and then paste them into the text files later!'

which is a thing you can do. but at some point you find out that discord only likes to scroll back so far, and also that your notes app has a character limit, after which it tells you to get the fuck into the docs.

which you do, because what other choice is there?

a skilled observer, someone who's good at math and counting, may at this point notice that there are now four locations involved in this process. a skilled observer, or simply someone who is smarter than i am, which is a very low bar, might think, wow, that's kind of a lot of locations you've got there, buddy! sure would be a shame if things got all nonsensically jumbled together!

i, on the other hand. i found out about ellipsus, and i thought, oh, i'm just going to try this, i'll just throw a couple things in there and see how it goes. and so i did.

here is what i did not do: stop writing in the text files. or in the notes app. or in discord. i also did not transfer everything from the text files to ellipsus, or anywhere else. i also did not transfer everything from gdocs to…anywhere.

unfortunately, at some point in the past week, i've realised that at this point, i have a truly horrifying number of versions of some files. they're not labelled or even saved, in many instances. i keep finding things that i thought i'd fully deleted, or things that i have three versions of, and they're all within a couple hundred words of each other, but the most recent scenes have nothing at all in common.

which is to say that currently, my notepad++ tab bar looks like this.

if there's a .txt in the name, it means that it was, at some point, saved. when? well. that's not my business. i am now down to twenty-two open files. some of them have literally tens of thousands of words; some of them have work-style notes about medical appointments and bills and random phone numbers; some of them have notes about fics my friends are writing; some of them have as many as two or three sentences with absolutely no further context.

one of them contains, in total, the words 'not actually dead'. that's it, that's the file. 'not actually dead'. the period is outside the quotes because it is not in the fucking file. what did i mean by that. why did i feel that it needed its own file. what the fuck does this mean. we may never know! there's certainly not gonna be any insight from this corner!

another uninteresting fact about me is that i am, in many regards, sort of a minimalist. there are three open tabs on my phone. i have never accessed ao3 except in an incognito window. my search history is empty. i feel like having a dozen tabs open is a lot of tabs. (not you, text files, you're perfect.)

however, right now, i have seven tabs open (normal! fine!), and then…i have. this.

i am sitting here, three in the morning, waiting for a storm to (please please please) roll through, picking at a fic that i'm writing and also sieving through all these goddamned files (yes, the ones in notes and gdocs, too) and consolidating.

questions you may have, at this point, because they're certainly questions that i have:

is this productive? i don't know.

will this fix me? almost certainly not.

is this a good use of my time? i honestly could not tell you; never before have i been in this position, and i don't quite know what to do with it.

will this make it slightly less likely that i have to spend between three minutes and three hours skimming files and looking for the one thing that i want to work on? possibly. hopefully. perhaps. god i hope so.

not fuckboy Kafka being a fuckboy on accident, that is honesty kind of funny, but I am still running…towards her.

ok but Kafka in the firefly animation was kind of funny for some reason. she was also really hot in the animation but Elio definitely told her to be there, so she’s just sitting on a space while waiting for something and she’s just drinking. I was looking through firefly’s story and there was nothing about Kafka 😔 except for when she’s recruited and only mentioned as “the woman” there was stuff abt silver wolf and blade, so obviously everything abt her is going to be plot relevant when she shows up very soon in the main story.

Also Kafka at the interrogation scene was so silly. Like they took her jacket, her contacts and wiped off her lipstick for what? her back and her shoulders do be looking fine tho people like me are why there’s dress codes in school and her eyes are gorgeous, like she looks so much softer when you can see her pupils, she’s so pretty.

Speaking of her voice actor, Cheryl texiera was so good on the white night cover. Her belting was amazing. Definitely feeding my headcanons for my university au. In aural class you have to sing notes (from my research) to prove that you can tell the difference or smth, and I just think it’s be funny that reader would be so mad at Kafka for having perfect pitch and having a good voice and generally just being good. i love the interrogation scene of the luofu i think it’s my favourite, i remember squealing when she walked in the frame without her coat like i was a victorian man seeing a woman’s ankles for the first time— at the time i hadnt checked anything about her so when i saw her without her coat i realized that she was mostly wearing it to look good (she cut holes into it to pass her arms through them instead of it being over the shoulders like himeko bc she wears fancy long sleeves… just unnecessary?3!4?) then i read her character description in the archives and it said she loved collecting coats i was like “i knew it…”

SHE DOES LOOK SO MUCH SOFTER RAHHHHHH. she’s much less intimidating and i love it so bad because we were seeing her without her defenses for the first time + we got to see her full design (it’s my favourite). they took her jacket and contacts/wiped her makeup cause she actually got arrested so they likely needed information like eye color and fingerprints etc, plus she was hiding three grenades, two rifles and a sword like i’d confiscate that stupid ass coat too. i think the funniest part is that she went back for it afterwards 😭

hush genuinely freaking out over what he did PAINED ME and it reminded me of caelum’s audio directly after his encounter with vega where fl had to help heal him up. with the way doc comforted hush after he poofed in randomly. the similarity but also contrast there is crazy, with one in which vega had done the harm upon the speaker and the other in which the speaker had done the harm towards vega. idk how to word this 😭

i’m thanking doc so hard for hugging hush bc I COULD NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE i wanna protect him from the rest of the world istg everyone needs to shut up

Nuance button. It's strange and a bit pretentious but as long as it's not overdone I don't hate it. Works better for conlangs then real world languages imo, but a good enough writer can make me enjoy anything

First fandom you wrote for?

I don't know if there's a fandom for it but the first fanfic I ever wrote was for a children's book series called rainbow magic. It was all about fairies -- each series had a theme (e.g. colours, genres of music, types of weather) and each book followed a fairy whose powers related to an aspect of that theme (e.g., my favourite as a kid was Storm the lightning fairy, one of the weather books). An incredibly easy format to take and write fic of, especially when you're...seven? Eight? Somewhere around that age I think

I kind of hate all my writing rn 😅 I think lose the halo is an all timer for me but I've improved enough since writing it that reading it feels really bad lol. I'll give it to merfolk au since that's my most recent and therefore theoretically my best writing so far. And I spent way too long writing it, so the world is permanently lodged in my brain

Long answer no with a yet, short answer yes with a but!

Most of my actual serious effort-works aren't online because I just honestly don't know what to do with them. My biggest is a story called the story with ruth in it, which, before revisions, was sitting at 337,000 words. I started that back in 2011 and did NOT have a solid plan until the end, so the early sections especially ended up being a super sloppy mess.

I'm still in the process of going through and kind of rewriting it from the base up to be a lot more internally coherent! Some of the writing is 10+ years old in there and not nearly as good as my current stuff, but at its core it's pretty decent! It deals with a lot of what Proselytize would in different scales: what it means to have an outsized amount of power and be able to affect the world with almost no consequences and how fucked up that ends up being. While that was a side-theme in Proselytize it's the main theme there.

I have no idea what on earth to do with it when I'm done with my rewrite because it's going to end up at over 350,000 words and it isn't fandom-related so I don't know if Ao3 is a good place for it (i know you can put original works up there but also they say to not do that so like ? ? ?) but i have no illusions of getting something this weird published so I might just put it online somewhere if we all live that long!

I have a bunch of scattered storysnippets on my furaffinity (obvious obligatory warning about linking to the furry porn website) but the problem with that is they're very much scattered bits and also some of them are a lot more darker than Proselytize or more X-rated and also none of them really ever got finished (i'm very serious about the darker warning my gallery has some of that old school ultraviolence and what-have-you the deeper back in the past you go into it (we've gone through like 5 different character arcs but we keep the same furaffinity so you go back far enough and it's essentially a different person's gallery after certain points))

the problem is, i can like. i can doodle. i am not an artist. and people on furaffinity mostly care about 1: furry porn art, and 2: see 1. so most of the projects i have on there kind of stall out once i start getting diminishing returns of like, 4 people looking at something i spent hours on writing. ive recently just given up on making stuff for FA for a while in frustration.

especially since, like, if i DONT doodle something as a "cover image" for a story upload, it gets like, 80% less views, which translates from like 30 people looking at it to 4 people looking at it.

BUT.

i still stand by Yhelm's Story in there which isn't complete (because, again, writing for an audience of 4 is kind of depressing) but which is a fun bunch of mess about a local crimedog and her sex-shifting songferret partner dealing with the consequences of their life of organized crime. Hits with themes of family abandonment, generational trauma, romances that you know are a bad idea but you do it anyway, racism, trying to not be the bad guy while being the bad guy, and existing in a really fucking weird fantasy world which is normal to everyone but the reader.

her overall gallery is here (linking to the second page of it) but to actually read it chronologically it you would have to go to the back of the gallery and read from the back forward and there's also just a lot of doodles mixed in. a lot of the writing is in the image descriptions. like a lot of the images in her gallery are just basically chapter-cover-images to trick people into clicking and WOOPS. now there's a story you're scrolling through.

it's not really very navigation friendly but that's furaffinity unfortunately!

Ivan’s December 25 1991 astrology chart

@mslorelina-blog asked me to explain the astrology charts of the (official) fall of USSR and (official) formation of Russian Federation from my Ivan’s birthday post, so here I go ❤️

DISCLAIMER FIRST:

I’m just an enthusiastic learner of astrology and not an actual astrologer, so don’t be too serious abt this. These are real life charts but since this is for fandom purposes, I’ll be tying them into creative fandom endeavors (whicch means I’ll be talking about Ivan as a fictional character according to the charts).

I AM USING SIDEREAL VEDIC SYSTEM. If you don’t know what’s that, please google it up, but know that I’m not using the typical more common Tropical system. Signs shift a bit in sidereal (for example a Pisces in tropical is Aquarius in sidereal) so if you think the charts look wrong, it’s likely because I’m not using the system you have in mind.

Without further ado:

Fall of USSR. December 25 1991 19:35, Moscow

Sun sign: Sagittarius (Mula nakshatra)

Moon sign: Leo (Magha nakshatra)

Ascendant (lagna) sign: Cancer (Ashlesha nakshatra)

Other special features:

Chart ruler/lagnesh Moon in Magha (2nd house)

Atmakaraka (AK — soul significator, strongest planet): Venus in Libra (Vishakha nakshatra) 4th house

Darakaraka (DK — spouse significator, weakest planet): Moon in Magha (2nd house)

Nodal axis: North Node (Rahu) in Sagittarius (Purva Ashadha nakshatra), 6th house, and South Node (Ketu) in Gemini (Ardra nakshatra), 12th house

How would the chart mean for Ivan as a character?

Firstly, according to the big 3, the general description goes that Ivan will be aggressive and expansive (Sagittarius is a warring sign), proud and dignified but conservative (Leo), and sensitive and nurturing but emotionally vulnerable and overwhelming (Cancer)

His chart lord and Moon are in Leo Magha (2nd house of family). First and foremost, Ivan is tied to his (blood) family. He is possessive over them and is particularly spoiled by them (spoiler alert: I share this exact placement so I know firsthand about this). This placement means that he has his family wrapped around his little finger, and he is treated as ‘a king of his lair’ at the same time he is constantly babied. Magha nakshatra is ruled by planet Ketu (South Node) and represents ancestors; the natives would feel as if they have duties in upholding family traditions but at the same time they have their ancestors watching over them and blessing them. This is a powerful star of manifestation and royalty as ‘the power you have you’ve already wielded since born’. Magha natives usually have powerful ancestors or ones with interesting stories and karma to pass down for the natives to settle. As much as Magha natives tend to be conservative tho, we also tend to break away from some traditions in order to improve our lineage and ancestral karma.

At the same time, this is his weakest planet (DK; weakest by degree) so perhaps he would feel as if he is ‘cut out of these ancestral links’ some. However, being his chart lord, how he feels about his family and lineage (and personal resources, family is basically one of personal resources anyone could have) are the constantly occurring themes of his life. These are also things that he constantly seeks in his life.

Ivan has Moon conjunct Jupiter in 2nd house. Jupiter here can be bad and good at the same time; as Jupiter is a planet that expands things it comes into contact with, sometimes it expands Ivan’s resources and wealth but it can also increase family drama. Ivan is also highly generous toward his family.

Ivan has Atmakaraka (AK) Venus in Libra Vishakha 4th house. 4th house denotes motherland and/or mother, and him having the strongest planet here means he is very dearly tied to his motherland and his mother (if he had her). Venus in Libra is domicile/right at home, which means the house is strong and sturdy. Being Venus, Ivan likes good things — including beautiful things — in his homeland and is likely to get them also just by attraction, as Venus ultimately pulls you toward the things Venus signifies in the house. Moreover, Vishakha nakshatra is also a particularly ambitious star; the natives are sure to get what they want and will work hard to attain it. Venus in his 4th house also rules his 11th house of achievement and social circle; this means that Ivan befriends people who are like him most often, and his achievements and desires revolve around his motherland. This is quite a placement for a homebody.

Ivan has Mars in Jyeshtha (Scorpio) in 5th house of creativity and self expression, also domicile. This house also rules his 10th house (career, reputation and social status) which means that his reputation and social status are what he makes of them. Jyeshtha is quite a difficult star tho, as the natives would be involved in a cycle of constantly having to prove themselves through hard work, but not only for their own selves as the natives would also be responsible of others under their wing, or they feel they have to be responsible bc others often rely on them. Mars here makes Ivan aggressive in attaining those things, and he can also get stalkerish 😄. Mars here is conjunct Mercury which rules 3rd house of neighbors/courage and 12th house of loss or foreign places, so Ivan is sure to extends aggression towards those people as well. Since Mars is conjunct Mercury tho, which is a planet of communication, fun and tact, it’s honestly not all aggressive and he can be sensible.

Ivan’s Sun is Sagittarius in Mula Nakshatra (6th house). 6th house is the house of enemies, obstacles, and also illness/disease. Mula nakshatra is a powerful star that means roots or foundation; natives of this placement destroy or put things to ruin (mainly emotionally; not always physical) to return them to a blank slate for a new growth. With his sun here, which is a natural malefic, Ivan is someone who is sure to beat his enemies — of which he has a lot, because he has North Node (Rahu) conjunct his sun. Rahu works in amplifying to a high degree the significations of the house it sits in and the planet in its vicinity. Rahu in particular makes Ivan also highly ambitious about defeating obstacles, of which he has many, since Rahu basically amplifies both his obstacles and his desire to defeat them. It also happens that much of his obstacles come from his family, due to the fact that the dispositor of his Sun and Rahu is Jupiter in his 2nd house of family. However, lord of his Moon/Leo house is also Sun in his 6th house, which means people who were once enemies can become family. Pretty complicated placement, I would say.

With Rahu in 6th house and South Node (Ketu) in 12th house, Ivan is someone who is worldly and not much spiritual. Ketu represents what you already were bestowed with in your past life and Rahu is your unmet desires in this current life. 12th house indicates spirituality, solitude and detachment, and Ketu here means Ivan doesn’t need any of those things and thus won’t seek them out.

Ivan has Saturn in Capricorn (Shravana nakshatra), 7th house of relationship and business. This makes Ivan conservative in how he approaches relationships, but he is also highly loyal towards his (limited) partners. This makes him tend to only look for those who are his ‘traditional’ partners for business. At the same time, those partners also tend to be loyal towards him.

Also important to note that Ivan’s ascendant is in Cancer, Ashlesha nakshatra, and it is at an especially difficult point called gandanta. Gandanta means ‘knot at the end’ and signifies the highest degrees of a water sign PLUS the lowest degrees of its neighboring fire sign, in this case the junction between Cancer and Leo, that is, between Ashlesha and Magha. At the highest degree of Cancer, like shown here, Ivan ‘holds tightly to his self and doesn’t want to let go’, even tho the obvious path is to let go, since the water of Cancer has no way to go but into the fire and smoke of Leo. Only when you let go of your past issues that you can finally be liberated and go on to manifest reality, as shown in Leo. And guess what, Ivan’s Cancer’s lord is Moon in Magha so he does have the ability to liberate himself from the shackles of Ashlesha. Ashlesha itself is quite a difficult star, one that is highly possessive, dependent, and regarded as ‘poisonous’ (symbolized by a snake) due to its steadfast efforts in keeping what is his as his, even if he has to employ appalling measures for it (or what is thought of as appalling). Ashlesha at highest degree/gandanta point is the most possessive and unrelenting, and yet, it also has the most potential to shed its past baggage. This is very befitting of the end of USSR.

It remains the same, only that the ascendant changes from Cancer to Leo and thus house signs move.

Sun: Sagittarius (Mula) 5th house (chart ruler/lagnesh)

Moon: Leo (Magha) 1st house

AK Vishakha Venus 3rd house, DK Magha Moon 1st house

Nodal axis: Ketu in Gemini 11th house, Rahu in Sagittarius 5th house

The nuances are considerably different, this time, but not a lot. Ivan is nurturing and emotional (lunar influence: from being ruled by Moon to having 1st house Moon). Since this is Magha, even though Ivan has changed the system of his nation, he essentially stays the same and still carries the ‘karma of his past life’. An actually logical notion because nations hardly ever change their core even though they’ve donned different clothes, for better or worse. His AK changes from motherland-focused to neighbor-focused, but motherland keeps being an important focus due to the Mars-Mercury combo. Now Ivan’s purpose and main focus of life is genuine self expression (5H) compared to beating enemies (6H), though 5H can also mean child rearing or even childbirth, however that means in relation to him, lol. It also can mean romance 😂 (or perhaps just genuine love for himself, bc the dispositor of Rahu and Sun is in his 1st house of himself?). Ivan now has Saturn in 6H; beating enemies is a slow but sure process, but this time he’s got stability compared to the utter chaos of the previous chart. Enemies might be traditional as well, as in, it’s just the same kind of enemies he’s had before. Unfortunately (or fortunately) he can kind of sleep on them all tho! Funny placement because he gets his relationships from his enemies. Also, with 11H Ketu Ivan willingly isolates himself more from wider social circle and doesn’t care abt it much beyond his neighbors or kins.

Whew! That was pretty long. I have to say that I won’t incorporate all of this into my personal headcanons about Ivan, but I think these are interesting and I noted down some.

then u got this psychotic 5 foot nothing goalie (who has a twin also on the team)(they've both killed someone)(btw)(also he's blond)(and gay) who literally could stop the yakuza if need be and WAIT! does runaway orphan boy only know how to have homoerotic interactions with other men? the answer is probably yes.* blond goalie and runaway actually gay tho and make out a lot

also runaway gets tortured (twice) but he's fine or whatever. more murder. violence violence. some great side characters.

i'd say 'did that make sense' but i *know* it didn't bc even with my knowledge of the books it doesn't make sense.

so just like. an underdog sports story but the yakuza is there is how i'd jokingly describe it but it is in fact,,,,so much more than that.

if u are not enticed by my description and are not able to suspend all belief and accept there will be loose ends bc runaway is a TERRIBLY unreliable narrator with trauma up the wazoo, you will never understand. but if u ARE enticed, welcome to brain rot central. here are the trigger warnings.
