i'm actually very okay with "there was no other way this could end" endings. if they gotta die, let them die. if they gotta break up or go the wrong way or lose something important, let'em. so long as it completes the story. only thing i dislike more than a forced happy ending is a forced bad ending

i guess what’s so offputting is so much shipping is about this sort of capitalist maximization mindset. people ship something because it makes characters into their “best” selves and secures the best, “healthiest” existence for characters. and this is so bizarre to me…i am that sap and loser who likes to imagine characters happy together but like, that is never my starting point - “this relationship will have the maximum outcome.” it’s like, are their emotional issues interesting. and then from there battling through those emotional issues to romantic connection and personal contentment can certainly be one engaging kind of fic arc although for me totally independent of them being “better people” at the end. but the way arguments about shipping go down leads you to believe this is the starting point for people. can i give this character a work over like an old car. which is repellent to me lol

We need to put sex back into children's entertainment
That got your attention. I welcome the pearl-clutching in the notes.
I'm serious, though. The movies we watched as kids had way more sex in them than you remember. Not explicitly, but they had no problem alluding to and implying sex. The Incredibles had a full-on sex montage and a suspected adultery subplot. The Road to El Dorado had a woman proposition a man for casual sex onscreen and fuck him just out of frame. Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas directly referenced prostitution. So did The Hunchback of Notre Dame on top of having a creepy sexual predator for a villain who unambiguously sings about his lust for the leading lady. We all knew Simba and Nala fucked at the end of that one song in The Lion King. Batman: The Animated Series had Harley Quinn dress in lingerie and beg the Joker for sex.
This was mainstream children's media by major studios. None of this was controversial or seen as "grooming." Sex was just a normal thing to tastefully imply because it's a normal part of life. Having two characters discretely fuck offscreen was no different from having a villain fall to his death so you can't see the gore. They obviously wouldn't show it in a children's movie, but everyone who knows what sex or violence is can infer what happened.
I think the fact that this even shocks us is very telling of how insanely prudish and reactionary we have become regarding anything remotely sexual coming anywhere near kids. It used to be perfectly acceptable to do this in children's media, but the current groomer panic has really set us back decades.
I can only think of a handful of recent exceptions to this. The She-Ra remake elegantly pulled off a running gag where a character fucks robots, and Kpop Demon Hunters did not shy away from depicting sexual desire through exaggerated cartoony visuals. Hopefully, the breakout success of the latter sets a precedent for future projects.
We need to get more normal about sex and that means, among other things, letting Disney characters fuck again.

Hey guys soooo if you've been following along on my updates about my evil shixiong (p1, p2, p3,) #evilshixiong then you probably know that Shixiong killed me but I got reborn a hundred years later but it sucks because babies can't do shit.
Anyways it's been a while now and OMG I have notttt figured out how to like. Get this to go any faster. It's taking f o r e v e r to grow up! :(
But Ive been at it for six years now so I've got some uhh I guess. General news of the world type stuff? But none of it's about Shixiong like all anyone seems to know is that he got sealed away after our epic battle where he killed me. Anyways all the sects have been in decline ever since our whole generation got wiped out (oops) and some new demon sects have cropped up and there's some prophecies and stuff. My parents think I'm a reborn hero who will save everybody and like, I mean they're probably not wrong at least about the reborn bit but idk why it's me again lol. I got like sooo many ridiculous power ups and stuffs in my first life and it's not like it worked out for anybody not even me but ok sure it's whatever ig.
Anyway there's this big mural of like, Shixiong and me's battle that's in a sacred temple that my parents finally took me to and I gotta say. Not bad. Like that is nottt what I looked like lol and for some reason they put Shixiong's ex in there (she was already dead way before that???) but they captured Shixiong's maddened glowing eyes and furious snarl pretty good! ❤

You should only write in present tense with extreme caution.
not because it's bad or anything but because if you do it even once you're going to be editing the bits where you shifted tenses out of your writing for the rest of your life

sometimes I think I'm putting too many sex scenes into something . and then I look at what's happening in the world and I'm like oh yeah there's a massive puritan shift and censorship wave happening. why on earth am I feeling guilty for writing self indulgent fanfic lmao. I think I will make the characters do it sloppy AGAIN !!!!!
