The final round of the Tournament of favorite tumblr rpg male romance (gosh that's long) sees Wyll Ravengard from Baldur's Gate 3 vs Garrus from Mass Effect.

Wyll Ravengard, hero of the Coast, the man who is too forgiving and a bit too easily charmed, the hero who tried to use the "do you even know who I am? the son of the duke" at least once, distrusting gods and devils since whatever year Baldur's Gate 3 is set in, a romantic at heart and someone who still believes in the tales of old!

Garrus Vakarian a turian who will always have your side, and who can sometimes be pretty awkward and incredibly charming?? The OG loyal space husband, always calibrating. It is said there is no Shepard without Vakarian, and yes, hearing him say that will probably make some people (me) tear up!

The Blade of Frontiers is a good man.

This isn't a title he's given himself, but one bestowed upon him. Through tales and songs all across the city and uttered from the very lips of his lover - Wyll Ravengard has always strived to be a good man.

He can't assert this by any measure, but he knows best his own effort. For the sake of the city, for the sake of his people, for the sake of love. He wants very little to himself, and he fights with every ounce of him. His heart is in the city, but his soul is with you. Between these two places, there's no amount of sacrifice or burden he isn't willing to bear.

Part of being a good man is being the master of your own desires. What other men do is none of Wyll's concern, but he's always been adamant about keeping firmly on the straight path. Wyll wants love properly, much like how he wishes the world around him would follow.

Properly, with order and justice and care. That's how Wyll has lived his whole life.

And he's believed of himself that loving that way came easier upon him than it did others, though that was nothing he felt like bragging about. It never felt difficult to abstain from the ugliness of anger or jealousy.

That was before you. And this is after, this is post having your meeting. Wyll has had a relationship or two. Puppy crushes that fizzled off as soon as Wyll's responsibility began to overwhelming. Like, less than love, really. This time it is love, and love is incomparable to any sensation in the world. Not the cut of a blade against his skin, nor the warmth of a sunset. No mortal feeling could really measure to love.

In the aftermath of loving you, Wyll supposes, there is an ugliness within himself that he never really knew about. But maybe it's only normal. What else could there be after he's encountered the most beautiful thing the world has to offer, beyond even gods?

There are three things on Wyll's mind, lately. One, that he loves you more than he thought possible. Two, that he's relieved about the state of affairs. And three, he's very tired of feeling this way.

Not that he's tired of loving you. Things just aren't so busy anymore, and that means there's always people around. The people of the gate love you, and you're more hospitable than you let on. The camp is busy, rife with life every single evening and everyone is always so keen on meeting you.

You're busy, rightly - laughing and drinking. Though you're not much for talking, you do your duties as a host and tell stories when prompted. You seem to enjoy yourself in the well-earned reprieve and you've really do deserve very bit of that love and attention that's come your way.

So, Wyll knows feeling this way is ugly. The jealousy is ugly, and Wyll's not entirely lacking self-awareness about it. Though before he could chalk it up to other things, lately it's impossible. He knows that the Outlanders who come seeking your company have no idea you're engaged - and that they're simply men who desire you for the name you've earned.

A warrior, a hero, a myth - Wyll does not blame them for their curiosity.

But he feels pitiful to be so stirred up about it anyways.

He drinks tonight, though the carafe of wine is mostly full. The others speak amongst themselves. Astarion drifts by him, stands and sways in motion in the cool night air with a smug look on his face that Wyll is too dazed to catch.

Astarion speaks first. The sound is muffled first, impossible to make out in his own mind before a pale hand waves in front of his face.

"You know I'll have to thank your darling later for allowing me to see such a rare sight," Astarion drawls. He's sober, though there's wine in his hand all the same "The Blade of Frontiers, seething with jealousy. A marvel."

"I wouldn't call it seething," Wyll replies, still only half paying attention. His eyes are glued to you. He can't bring himself to look away.

Astarion laughs, a little pity in his voice , though Wyll can't really make out if it's sincere or not.

"But you'll admit you're jealous? My, Ravengard, you've changed." Astarion says. Wyll doesn't bother asking what he means, since it's true in any case "Forgive those poor Outlanders. It's hard enough watching them pine for one half the lovesick couple as is."

Wyll sighs.

"It's fine," Wyll says, though even he can hear how much he doesn't really mean it "It's not like they would know. I suppose many people wear decorative rings these days."

"Gods, this is funny. Just listen to you, I mean really. What a delight. I have half a mind to call the rest over just to witness it in person. Unfortunately I'm not so charitable," Astarion says back to him holding in a laugh "Whatever will you do, Ravengard? Maybe you could kick up a fuss, or pick a fight. People brawl at these things don't they? Oh what a sight that'd be indeed."

Wyll ignores him, but he does heed the advice. He would like to do something about it, though there won't be any brawl. He steels himself, passes an empty cup off to Astarion who makes a shrill laugh as Wyll starts walking himself over the fire.

When he arrives there, the conversation has come to more of a relaxed lull. You notice him even engrossed in conversation, flashing him a smile so beautiful he feels a little blinded.

He gives you one in return, disarmed. The outlander who's been trying to win your attention all night goes to address you again and Wyll is quick to interject.

"Ah, sorry - would you all mind if I borrowed them for a minute?"

You give Wyll a look of surprise, your eyes crystal clear. He feels guilty almost instantly, but continues anyway.

"Is something the matter?" You ask, your voice softened. You've been drinking, from the way your words melt together.

"Nothing serious, just something I wanted to talk to you about in private. That alright? Promise I'll return them before the night is over."

"As long as you promise," Says the very same one Wyll's been trying to tear you away from all evening. You laugh heartily before standing to your feet. You're beaming at him, brilliant - and Wyll goes back to his usual pleasant self as he gives his goodbyes.

He says something about promising before he whisks you off, faithfully ignoring the knowing looks of party.

And he takes you to a quiet corner of the camp, a short trail bridging between the main plot of land. There's some sturdy scenery, and rocks large enough to shield you from the outside and give you privacy.

He's cornering you a bit, admittedly - but you seem happy to see him. As soon as you're alone, you have your arms around his neck. There's a delightful air of excitement around you and Wyll finds himself filling with all the fondness in the world.

The faint sour-sweet of wine lingers off of your lips. Wyll looks at you closely, studies your expression.

"Sorry, sorry," You apologize, suddenly more comfortable. A side of yourself that you only show to him. How funny it makes him feel "I was happy to see you, is all."

"I can see that," Wyll replies, smug - just barely. You bat your lashes, dazed. It's unlike you. Wyll likes it. "I'm happy to see you too. Always."

"Is it something serious?"

Ah. He's caught isn't he? In a way, he's tremendously lucky you're not too sober. He's sure you'll tease him about it later.

"No, I suppose not. It's nothing at all, I just," He stumbles uncertainly at what he should say "Well, I wanted to speak with you."

"You could've joined us!"

Wyll gives you a sideways glance.

"Could I?" He says, before he catches himself. He adds the next words apologetically almost "That outlander you've been conversing all night seemed rather rapt with you. I doubt I could've interjected anywhere without fumbling."

You look like you're processing his words, but it's not as if Wyll is going to let you.

Wyll often says to you that you make him forget himself, and there are moments like these he find that to be more true than ever. It is unlike Wyll - strong and chivalrous, poise and charming - to bear so heavy a feeling in his heart that he has to express it physically.

Only you could make his silver tongue submit to such urgent, base instinct. Wyll kisses you in the most unromantic way he knows. It's not very gentlemanly. A kiss to claim, to sink, to swallow.

He kisses hard, and your lips are faint with the taste of wine. You make a noise of surprise before you melt into his arms. The warmth of his body makes him feel like he's burning to ash. His tongue touches yours, warm and hot nipping at your mouth.

When you pull away, Wyll decides it still isn't enough to curb the jealousy. He lets his teeth drift down to your neck. Sharpened canines that scrape against thin skin. Wyll sucks hard, enough to make all the capilliaries break.

And you sigh - a pretty, welcoming noise. Wyll is marking you. He leaves one after the other, in admittedly visible places. But he's not thinking about, not really.

Not until your voice breaks, the sweetest edge of desire to your words. He's not so debased to do anything to you while you're more than tipsy. He pulls away from you, blinks at you candidly - before the realization dawns on him in full.

By the gods, what's wrong with him? Embarrassment hits him afterwards, abject dread filling him as he peers at the dark marks along your neckline.

Did he really...? Really?

"Wyll," You say, strikingly sober and delighted all of a sudden "Are you...perhaps...jealous?"

He rubs his face on his hand, suddenly flush, turning his expression to one side. He can't deny it at this point can he.

"I wonder if my life will be easier once our wedding is announced in print," He offers sheepishly. You laugh loudly, absolutely elated as you press your forehead to his. He does the same, of course "The ring seems to be no more than decorative to everyone."

"Wyll Ravengard, I would've never guessed in a thousand years you'd drag me here because you were jealous."

"Please forget my uncouth actions at your earliest convenience my love," He says, groaning "I might die of embarrassment otherwise."

"It's nothing to be embarrassed about. I get jealous over silly things all the time. I tell you as much."

"When you do it it's endearing. I'm meant to be a gentleman, yet in front of you - I lose my wits like I'm a boy no older than seventeen. It's maddening."

"You forget yourself?" You tease, characteristically. He laughs.

"A bit more each day, it seems."

"A little jealousy is healthy, Ravengard. Though, I'm not sure how we're going to return to camp in this state." You say, giving him a suggestive look "Perhaps we have a bit more to talk about here instead, hm?"

"We should be doing such things in a bed. Or a tent." Wyll insists. You chuckle like you know he'll give into you.

"Wouldn't it be more effective if that Outlander you're so jealous of saw me with a post sex glow, along with the hickies."

Wyll feels his skin prick with heat.

"You drive a hard bargain." He comments, voice soft as a whisper. You laugh.

"Maybe you're just an easy sell."

Wyll laughs heartily at that.

"Any one would jump at the chance for something so priceless, Hero of the Gate."

You give Wyll another smile, lovely and genuine - there's nothing smug about it. You kiss him tender, sighing happily into his arms. He finds himself helpless to his own joy.

"Then lets kill time here and head back,"

"Yes," He says, jealousy tucked away for now "Let's do that,"

here's the thing alright wyll is perfect for a single parent romance novel. like him and lily aurora ravengard are absolutely destroying at the daddy daughter dance. he's showing up to the pta bake sale with the best brownies in town. they're having tea parties together with all of her stuffed animals. it's great they're adorable. the problem is absolutely fucking nobody else in this party is ready to be not the stepparent but the parent who stepped up. karlach? would love being a cool auntie. astarion? weird uncle. shadowheart? rediscovering life post shar. lae'zel? maybe if she was raising xan but also she's busy doing hot girl shit like killing vlaakith. gale? malewifing it up but ultimately just happy to be here. halsin? cool uncle. minthara? double income no kids bisexual aunt who shows up on candlenights to unleash the gift reckoning. do you see my fucking problem. how am i supposed to romance novel in these conditions.

I rarely go into the 'Wyll Ravengard' tag (the lack of posts always enrages me) but whenever I do there is ALWAYS a post saying "omg I had to reject him I feel so bad!!!!!"

RIP to you but I'm built different. Don't care who I'm trying to romance in a play through, Wyll decides he wants me well I'm his. I could play a thousand times and if Wyll does his lil dance for me every time then a thousand times I'll take his hand.

Sorry you guys find earnest displays of attraction, emotion, and affection unattractive, absolutely cannot relate at all. Maybe if men actually did that in real life I'd explore a different dynamic, but as it is having one be forthright about his intentions is truly the most fictitious aspect of the game.

Also yes, Wyll does call his romanced player-partner "my star" and if that is not perfect for Astarion I do not know what is. And Astarion mentions "sweet" so many times (sweet = Wyll, but he also reveals he likes sweets) and Wyll deserves someone who is enamoured with his kindness.

(Shadowheart asking Astarion whom he would drink from) Astarion: Ah! Wyll. No question. He's strong, fast, and righteous. I'm salivating already.

Astarion: Take Wyll, for example. A man of the people, very palatble, like a sweet cider.

Astarion: Wyll's the sort of prince-type I would have once dreamed of marrying. When I was about thirteen.

Astarion: Interesting. I always thought he'd taste a little too sweet. (keep in mind that playing as Astarion you can tell Halsin you have a sweet tooth, also Astarion will say „Wyll, get up you sweet fool!“ to a Wyll fallen in battle)

(Asking Astarion to be in OT3 with Wyll. For all the other characters but Halsin he says no, but for Wyll he says „Wyll would not want to“) Astarion: Come now, Wyll won't agree to that. He's stuck in the past, and that's coming from a vampire.

Astarion: You're looking well. It seems Grand Duking suits you.

(The next ones are Astarion about Wyll's horns:) Astarion: For what it's worth, I rather like your new look. It adds a sense of drama - a little more flair.

Astarion: Oh, you get used to them quickly enough. At this point you'd look strange without them. Besides, people care more about the good you've done than how you need your hats tailored. And you have done an awful lot of good, Wyll. During our time together and every day since then.

Astarion: Poor Wyll gave you the benefit of the doubt and it earned him a set of horns. Not that they don't look flattering on him. Almost everything does. Astarion: They do! Honestly, that man…

WYLL ABOUT ASTARION (Again my comments are in parenthesis)

(Astarion: Critical fail at charisma check to tell Wyll he is a vampire Wyll: luckily I am into that)

Wyll: A lesser man might sever that well-coiffed head from your neck. Good thing for you I'm not such a man. Besides - not even the Blade of Frontiers is immune to your not-inconsiderable charms.

Wyll: I'm half-inclined to sever it now, if only for your endless insolence. Good thing for you you're so godsdamned charming.

Wyll: Oh, the lad's quite the tease. But he's a charming sort of cad - well, most of the time.

Wyll: Astarion has a certain swagger, don't you find? An interesting fellow. Nice hair, to boot.

Wyll: The charming rapscallion that he is.

Wyll: I've missed you too. And your cunning tongue, of course. And did I mention your hair? I might have missed that most of all.

Wyll: By the stars' light and the moon's glow, it's so good to see you, Astarion.

Wyll: Oh, Astarion. I bet I'd find a touch of sweet under all that sour, if I digged deep enough.

(Wyll: Of course I should have seen Astarion was a vampire, he was so hot) Wyll: Elegant bearing, saucy voice - I should've seen it, the signs were all there.

(Wyll about Cazador:) Wyll: Deep shadows have long haunted Baldur's Gate - and few loom so large as Cazador's. But I also know you can find light if you know where to look. And this I promise: you can always look to me.

(Astarion would love to marry a Grand Duke) Astarion: Power and prestige? Hail the Grand Duke indeed.

(The random outing they organize right in front of the others:) Astarion: Grand Duke Wyll Ravengard. Tell me, should I genuflect or merely bow? Wyll: Forget the bowing. I'd rather share a cheap brown ale and a hunk of fresh venison. You in? Astarion: I'll pass on the ale, but the company sounds delightful.

EVEN MORE Astarion‘s spawn ending is him becoming a hero adventurer – and what is Wyll‘s role, his life?? Being a hero! The Blade!

Astarion also asks Wyll twice about Cazador/killing vampires

hello all, salut à tous!

it’s been awhile since i’ve been active on this blog, but i have a fun announcement for everyone. if you’re coming from twitter, this might be especially interesting to you! 🫶🏾

as you guys know, one of my new favorite ships is bloodblade/wyllstarion (Wyll Ravengard x Astarion Ancunín) from Baldur’s Gate III. i’ve been hyperfixating on them for awhile now, and i’m really letdown by how little slice of life fic we have for them. 

i would also really love to expand my writing skills perfect my craft as writer. i’ve neglected my writing muscles in recent years and i’m disappointed in a lot of the works i write now. 

because of this, i’ll be doing something that i haven’t done in literal years! i am opening my inbox for you to submit prompts for me to write. i will post the longer ones first on AO3, then here on tumblr, and finally link them on Twitter for all of my mutuals to find. 

the shorter drabbles i’ll post here on tumblr straight from the ask & link to them on twitter. if you’re reading this, my inbox is open & i’m currently taking requests. 

for the purposes of organization, i’ll only be accepting drabble prompts & requests here on tumblr though my inbox. my tumblr is linked on both my AO3 & Twitter accounts though, so it won’t be hard to find me.

Okay, this is purely just cause i had feelingstm about a potential choice in the game with Wyll and what it would mean for my tav in particular. And THEN i saw a post about how Wyll might not have had many romances before because he thought it was selfish and that just encouraged me to like actually post this dumb thing i wrote. (And tumblr needs more Wyll content anyway)

Spoilers for Act 3/The end of Wyll's questline

"I can make you into the grand duke." His father's voice was firm, proud even.

Wyll felt his words get stuck in his chest. Him? The grand duke of Baldur's Gate? Was his father mad? His mouth opened to reply, only for Dove to cut in. "We need to talk." Her hand was shaking as she dragged him to a private clearing.

"I can't believe this madness. Me? Grand Duke? I look like a monster! I would be more likely to scare everyone than inspire them." He paced back and forth in front of his love, standing while she sat on the soft grass of the clearing. "Not to mention, the Sword Coast needs me, it needs the Blade. Plus, turning it down means we can be free and happy-"

"I wouldn't be happy." Dove's words were soft, and yet the sharpness of them dropped his excitement to the bottom of Avernus.

"W-what?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing. She stood and took his hands.

"Wyll." Her voice was strained. "I am not an adventurer. I'm not someone who finds joy fighting goblins and killing demons. I've done that now because I had to." Her hands were shaking again. "For fucks sake, I'm a noblewoman. I was raised to perform little shows in the upper city and schmooze the dukes. Not… to do what you need to do as the Blade." She took a deep breath. "I want that life back, Wyll. My life back. You being the grand duke would do that."

He was stunned, never even considering that Dove was completely out of her element. His enjoyment of his lifestyle blocked the idea that anyone, especially the love of his life, would hate it. Now he was conflicted; he needed to be the Blade, that's who he was, but being the blade meant his partner would be miserable. Being the grand duke meant he'd be miserable, but she'd be happy. There was no winning scenario. After all they'd been through, freeing himself from Mizora and stopping the dead three's chozen, he never even considered the possibility of not continuing his adventures.

Dove knew of his hesitation, she always did. She could tell the slightest of emotion changes with the twitch of an eyebrow, and he was clearly concerned. Her hands gave his own a firm squeeze, bringing him back to her. "Wyll, I know that becoming the Duke would be your worst nightmare. Maybe something for you to do when you're old and done adventuring, but not now especially not when there still is so much to be done. You know that I would resent you if I was forced to participate in that life." She swallowed, and he waited. While being a warlock meant he was good with words, bards were even better and Dove was the best of the best. "So, I purpose that we get married tonight."

He did a double take. "What? Not that I wouldn't want to, but.."

"If we get married tonight, I will become a Ravengard. I can assume the title of the grand duke whilst you're away. You can stay the Blade, visiting the city often to see me. I imagine at least those three are married, though, and Eden takes both Wyll and Gale's surnames, distancing himself from his own family's legacy and forging a new one with these people he cares for so deeply.

Favorite Scent: In many ways, Eden is rather indifferent to smells and doesn't put much thought into picking a favorite. However, he has a fondness for woodsy scents, and a deep-seated aversion to smokey scents.

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?: Coffee, all the way, but he has a fondness for a specific flavor of Waterdhavian tea Gale brews for them both sometimes. He's not exactly a connoisseur of tea, though, haha.

Average Sleep Hours: Far too few, haha. Eden tends to work himself to exhaustion rather frequently, and then keep going. Wyll and Gale have become experts at redirecting their husband's attention and convincing him to take a break and rest.

Dogs or Cats: Both! But I think Eden is overall more of a dog person, having grown up around them. Still, he adores Tara.

Dream Trip: When he was younger, Eden wanted to see Rosymorn Monastery, as his mother told him many stories of her studies there on her journey to becoming a cleric. However, as he got older, he became far more agnostic in his beliefs and the idea became much less appealing. He gave up on praying to Lathander after his mom's death, and now he feels mainly just... a vague sense of discomfort and grief when he thinks about the god he was raised with. This only got worse after seeing the monastery during his travels with the group.

So, now Eden wants to see Candlekeep. He desperately wants access to that expansive library and to learn all that he can. At heart, Eden hungers for knowledge above all else.

Amount of Blankets: So many. Eden is always on the chilly side, and that coupled with his chronic joint and muscle pain means he can only really sleep bundled up in a blanket nest. Wyll and Gale have had to make peace with their husband being a blanket hoarder.

Random Facts:

Yes, Eden has a fantasy phd. He basically got a degree in being a wizard... despite not having much ability to use magic himself. His magic is almost entirely from his warlock pact, as besides that he just can't use magic in the way a lot of other mages can.

He also has pretty serious chronic joint pain, made worse when he strains himself using his magic. It's a condition he inherited from his mother, and it's one he's learned to live with and how to accommodate for.

Eden's storyline is a mix of the normal tav story and the Dark Urge storyline. How so? Well. Before the adventure, Eden died, and he's only recently been resurrected at the start... minus many of his memories about who he is and what happened to him. So, on top of all the other shit going on, Eden has to figure out why his brain is full of holes.

Eden's father Abdiel is a very well-known and respected wizard, one that Gale actually was a fan of when he was younger. However, after seeing how horribly Abdiel treats Eden, Gale has left that adoration behind. Never meet your heroes, and all that.

(On a similar note, Wyll originally encouraged Eden to consider forgiving his father and reconnecting with him, which was the cause of a lot of conflict between them in the early days of their relationship. Eventually, though, Wyll came to understand *why* Eden doesn't want to forgive the man who traumatized him and abandoned him, and he respects and supports Eden's decision.)

(Gale and Wyll might or might not have an agreement to make sure Eden never has to even be in the same room as his father ever again. They'll keep him safe.)

Centuries ago, Adonis was sculpted from Bhaal’s rotting flesh and sent away with the intention to be Bhaal’s chosen and perfect son. Adonis does not remember much from is time in a creché, but he has been told they found him in infancy, just hatched, in the nest of a red dragon, who fiercely protected him. He doesn’t believe the story, but those memories have been fogged.

What he does remember he being Bhaal’s chosen all his life. Being taken when he was mature enough by the cult of Bhaal on his command to make them immortalize his son and preform a dangerous and harmful ritual to do so for their new leader who will lead them for years to come.

Adonis was cursed and tortured for the pleasure of Bhaal before he rose after being given the gift of immortality and the ability to not die and can only be killed. For Bhaal, if he could die, then he wasn’t worthy to lead the cult anymore and made it Adonis’s goal to destroy all his enemies and never fall to death.

For years, Bhaal controlled him to do senseless killing and rites, rarely he was given his own right mind or free will until one day, he met an elven woman bard whom he fell in love with. However, she didn’t entirely reciprocate, but he did not hold it against her and stayed her friend and loved her from afar. She appreciated his companionship and made many songs dedicated to their adventures together that are still famous and popular even after her senseless death…

Bhaal, upon seeing this, forced Adonis to murder the woman… the memory was so long ago he can’t even remember her name- but the trauma and his regret of that time haunts him enough that even after he was lobotomized by Orin, he couldn’t forget her face.

There is an ability to restore most of his clouded memories in a similar way you can with Shadowheart, to which he remembers that she called herself Rose, a not very traditional elven name but one she cherished and choose for herself. That was the first time he fell in love and after that, he never felt that way again… until now.

Adonis is part of the asexual spectrum. He doesn’t like mindless sex simply for pleasure. He isn’t fond of it being used to manipulate nor does he really enjoy it leisurely. He prefers if it means something but doesn’t indulge often. He is very straightforward when he says no. If you bring him to Sharess’s Caress, he will verbally express his discomfort if you ask him to do any acts of intimacy, especially with others.

In that way, he doesn’t have many romance scenes that are explicit. A few times he may flirt if he is comfortable and there is once I believe he would want to and if the feeling is mutual, you would get a romance scene. Most likely if he is redeemed and near the end of Act 3.

Anyway I only use mods to use the different hair styles and I hate the mods that change githyanki’s noses or makes them literally just look like elves if you are that person get away from me.

fuck it here's my Wyll rant

Spoilers under the cut

First of all I want to make it very clear that I am aware Wyll was re-written and had all his voicelines re-recorded with a different actor. I know. I am also not saying if you like him as he is in game right now you are "wrong". I am also not saying good or heroic characters are boring. These are simply my thoughts on how I think his story could have been improved and what I was hoping for while I was playing EA.

I actually really like how Wyll's story starts (apart from the fact that it's really weird he hangs out with some kids while he's supposedly hunting a dangerous devil but ok). I like that he is on a quest to kill Karlach, because it immediately involves him with the other characters and it's good from a gameplay perspective because it leads you to another companion who you might have missed otherwise. So far so good. What I don't like is that the decision whether or not you kill her changes absolutely nothing about him besides his appearance.

If he had a complex dual character arc like the other origin characters, this could have been an excellent start to his downfall - from folk hero to power hungry duke. Killing an innocent person is supposed to make him question his past actions - how often has Mizora lied to him? (this is mentioned but not further explored at all) So he could either remain convinced he was always doing the right thing (he's the Blade of Frontiers after all!) or he could question if he really is as heroic as other people see him.

Which brings me to my next point: Early in the game it is brought up that he feels like two people: The Blade and Wyll Ravengard. There are some hints that the Blade is just a mask he puts on and the whole heroic self absorbed-shtick is fake, but then it's just dropped and he's just like that. On the other hand, what if he really has let fame gotten to his head? (Again, which would make an interesting character arc if you choose to kill Karlach and he refuses to believe he made a mistake) What if his character arc was him actually growing into the hero role he has only been performing so far?

What makes this even worse is that it feels like there is supposed to be this duality and it feels like a setup for him to discover that he is both or neither... just for his quest to end up in choosing one of these two personas based on... what? So really there is no deep character growth there.

This post is already too long so I won't go on about how a lot of his romance scenes are half-assed and how weird it is that he talks about doing things "right" (implying there is a "wrong" way...) or how the player literally choosed for him whether he ends his pact with Mizora, but... those are also issues.

I really think he could have been a really complex and interesting character, he has so much potential, but he just falls flat. I kind of wish they had not rewritten him. His story in EA was a bit messy, yes, but in some way that also made him a more compelling character (to me).

Hello!! I am so in love with the Veilguard companions already and I am 👀 very curious about your own opinions. Do you have an idea of what companion you would want to romance with your first character? Did you have a character that really stood out to you as a character you want to get to know better?

For Inquisition my immediate favourite character was Dorian for many a reason, but with Veilguard I'm less sure - from appearances alone I'm a little in love with Davrin and Bellara but I honestly find them all really interesting.

Oooh, bless your little SOUL for giving me a reason to rant!! Thank you for asking, I am blowing you many, many kisses and offering many an apology for the unfiltered thoughtstream below, lol.

As much as I've been yearning for a romanceable dwarf companion for a literal decade and a half, and as delighted as I am to see Harding most likely fill that niche (fingers, toes, and all crossable appendages crossed), I can't deny that I'm just.... immediately drawn to Davrin, to a degree I absolutely did not expect. Which is honestly not like me at all, but there is just something about the introduction, his voice, and the fact that he is (or seems to be) a genuine Grey Warden, from Weisshaupt (who probably knows the Warden-Commander!!!!), that just struck such a chord with me.

I've always loved the sheer dramatics of the Wardens: that sense that a happy ending is pretty much impossible for them, them being duty-bound and required to throw their lives at the threat in the event of a Blight regardless of their personal feelings, the constant ticking of the clock from the moment of their Joining that's counting down to their tragic deaths, the undercurrent of doom that they inherently carry just by being who they are, them being both the sickness and the cure at the same time, it just.... I love it.

Even if in the game there will be an opportunity to cure him of the Taint (which I'm guessing might happen, since it's been kind of a thread that's been following the story since Origins, and it sounds like a fitting story arc to give to the one Warden character guaranteed to show up), I think without knowing anything else, that already makes for a nice, solid base for a story, even a romance. And, him being described as a bold and charming monster hunter on top of that, that's just really, really appealing to me. He's got kind of a slight Wyll Ravengard, but there are a number of characters that fit that description that I really like (my partner's first thought was Xenk Yendar from Honor Among Thieves)- AND he's gonna share a voice actor with Javik from ME3, so I'm like, sold immediately. Like, listen to this man speak. Come on now.

...... This, of course, could be overwritten in a second- my immediate first impression is that the character I have planned (only in the vaguest of terms) might very reasonably fall for someone like that, but it's almost equally likely that any one of them will just bat their eyelashes at my girl, and she'll (I'll. lbr, I'll.) be a lost woman, lol.

There's honestly not a character in this lineup that I can't see myself getting very interested in. Davrin is a definite standout (god I hope we'll get to call him Dav), but Bellara is is kind of giving me a similar feeling as Peebee did when Andromeda was revealed, so I'm very curious as to how that'll work out (she's SO CUTE??? and described as a ROMANTIC????? HELLO??????), and Taash's vibe, I really like so far- especially her name. Like, I'm sure it's derived from "ataashi" (yknow, qunlat for dragon) and means something like "Glory" or "Greatness", but I'm very curious to see how she and these "Lords of Fortune" will play into the overall plot. I only vaguely recall them being mentioned in the netflix show (Absolution) which I've only seen once when it was released, so I'm flying totally blind on them, lol.

But also, a Mortalitasi companion is inherently just really cool, especially considering how little we know about Nevarra, Neve is the POV character in Streets of Minrathous (from Tevinter Nights) which I'll HAVE to reread but remember also being cool (upon a quick googling that's not the one Dorian shows up in, I got excited because I could have sworn and thought she'd know him then), and Lucanis is in The Wigmaker Job (same book) which I'll ALSO have to reread but ALSO remember being one of the stories I liked most in that book, and just.....

Head in my hands, they all sound so fun, every last one of them. I'm reading The Missing (the comic, I think the only one I've not read yet) in another tab literally right now, and I'm like bouncing in my seat over the buddy-cop back-and-forth between Harding and Varric. I don't remember being this giddy about a game release.... literally ever. The only comparable event was Andromeda for me (I didn't have time to be excited about Inquisition, I was still oblivious and playing DA2 for the first time when it came out), but even though I love both, deep in my heart of heats I'm so much more of a Dragon Age girlie than I am a Mass Effect fan.

..... For my Rook, I decided I think sometime around 2017-2018 or thereabouts that her name is going to be Verbena (like the plant, Ver for short), and I think she's going to be human warrior, or the closest thing to it, depending on how classes are gonna work- because as much as dwarves are my favorite, and as much as I think the trade relationships with dwarves that Tevinter have could play really interestingly into the story, I've learned my lesson from playing a Cadash, and I'm gonna go with a standard height race for my first run. (I don't wanna miss the action the first time around because of a slightly off camera angle and a misplaced table leg, lol.)

I've only thought of Ver in the vaguest of terms, no backstory, just vibes and associations (primarily based on the name), and kind of a voice, but I don't wanna plan too far ahead or too specifically on anything, I'm just very excited to just explore things as they come! ❤️❤️❤️

I don't think there would be a Tav, it'd just be Wyll as the main character he is. He was kicked out home by his rich daddy, thanks to some deal gone [seemingly] wrong. Ulder's obviously a politician. Maybe Governor of BG.

It would still be centered around cults, but I think here the cult of tiamat would have a bigger role. Maybe a comeback. Maybe involving Shar and Vlaakith, bc I always see Lae'zel, Shadowheart, and Halsin as the secondary main characters.

Bhaal isn't as prominent but Durge and Gortash are involved. Gortash as arms dealer and redeemed!Durge as a show to Lae'zel and Shadowheart that you can shake off your shackles and brainwashing.

Actually, I think Minthara and Durge can play as mirrors.

Karlach works for Gortash still but she found out that he's got some shady plans against the Dekarios and the Ravengards, and it's something that she struggles with.

Mizora is tied to Gortash through Zariel, and suspects what Gortash doesn't want to so she sends Wyll to take out Karlach [Mizora is Wyll's boss AND his informant].

But Wyll sees what's up and employees Karlach as a double agent --- she doesn't last very long as one [subtlety is not her forte], but she nabs a bunch of info on her way out

IDK there are other vague thoughts about the cults being a smokescreen to Gortash wanting to sell drugs and guns, but they're also a threat that he can't quite control.

I am making this up as I go along. But it will involve a Wyll and Durge romance. My Durge. IDK what Kaeliana is doing other than trying to help the misguided [Maybe Halsin put her on it, bc I see him as a big brother to her]

This is so disjointed but I refuse to dive deeper before I actually start feeling some time of way for it

Sorry, just- it always takes proof positive to change Ulder's mind about anything, which is a good quality in a city leader, but in a parent...less than desirable.

All told, not the best first meeting with the prospective father-in-law that Thoradin could've hoped for.

The second meeting isn't much of an improvement. Yeah, I am going to say these two are never going to get along. Again, that ride-or-die quality, and Ulder making his first appearance in his own self by having a go at his son who has just saved his life and the lives of a dozen innocent hostages has just cemented Thoradin's opinion that his father-in-law is a complete dickhead who should maybe consider treating his son as his own child rather than a criminal brought before him for judgement.

Something you might've guessed at, if you'd made any attempt to consider what you knew of your son's character. Or troubled to get to know your son at all.

Sorry, just- Romancing Wyll, this time around, seeing the depths of how much he adores his father and how little his father gives in return- it's hard not to share in the protective fury.

Ulder does, to his credit, apologise once it's proven he was in the wrong. Wyll is certainly quicker to forgive than I would have been. But I do wish the game had taken more time, in act 3, to reckon with just how much Wyll was hurt by all of this and how that affects his decision making from here on out. I suspect it has something to do with his choice to continue as a monster hunter when you choose not to influence him either way, but it'd be nice to see it made more explicitly.

Also, to have some comment from Ulder on the fact that his son has a partner now - Shadowheart's parents get to comment on their daughter's relationship, after all.

He's got a lot of lovely, human contradictions. Fantasises about Scrooge McDuck swimming pools, but also cannot pass by someone in need without trying to help. Offended his best friend right before he died because he got really in his own head about being percieved as a class traitor for being friends with a sheriff. Thinks he's dead and therefore not capable of growth, actually has done so much growth and is bothered by the idea of regressing. Thinks he's tough and hard and driven by avarice, actually driven by compassion and would go weak kneed for a courtly romance (thanks Wyll Ravengard, no one will ever compare now for my boy). Mechanics wise... you know I love doing rogue shit, and his stealth missions are great fun.

11. How does your PC show affection? Jokes. Acts that seems small but show how much attention she pays. Solving cases for free. A hug one time but it was weird. 25. What are your PC’s charm point(s)!  'Charming' isn't a word I think a lot of people use for Shakra... she's funny, when she isn't working she likes to joke around. She's very passionate about what she does. She can be seductive, she just usually only turns that on to get something. She can be very clueless about her own feelings and the contrast with how in control she usually seems with everything else definitely works for some specific people.

28. When your PCs want comfort, what do they seek out?  A new hairstyle, both for the change itself and for spending time with Shile. Might ask to hang out with DV for a bit.

43. When your PCs make decisions, who or what are they making those decisions on behalf of? Depends on the situation. On a case, she might have to make decisions on behalf of a client, and then how much she leaves herself out that decision really varies.
