Hindu girls: remember that our ancestors didn't do purdah. our goddesses don't do purdah. Does Saraswati cover her hair? Does Lakshmi cover every inch of her body? No. So why should you? Seeing the female body as something sexual to be covered up is the mindset of our colonizers, and they've sadly colonized a lot of our minds. Decolonize!

PSA!!!!!
This is for the people who didn't know they were gay or bi or pan or ace or aro in their childhood.
This is for the people who had crushes which could be deemed straight and then came out as gay later in their lives.
This is for the trans or genderqueer or fluid or nonbinary people who did not experience dysphoria in their agab.
This one is for the people who don't want to take T or E or have gender-affirming surgery but are still trans.
This one is for the sex-positive or sex-neutral aces who are told that they aren't ace because they aren't disgusted by sex.
This one is for anyone who has been told, "You just need to find the right girl/guy!"
This one is for all the queer people who have been told that they cannot be queer because of their religion, race, ethnicity, etc.
This one is for all the queer people who were told that they weren't queer just because they didn't fit into somebody else's idea of what being queer is like.
Nobody can tell you how to be queer. The only one who gets to decide that is YOU. Queer people do not need to bend themselves over backwards to make others comfortable.
We have always been here and we will continue to be here, and everyone else will just have to learn to accept that.

through this person's incredible bravery, Indians who stand with Palestine, Indians who have to spend their days under a fascist regime, have a representation that does them justice.
our voices of dissent have been crushed through harrowing persecution.
in 1981, India issued a postage stamp with the Indian and Palestinian flags flying side by side, and the words "Solidarity with the Palestinian people." India was the first non-arab country to recognize the state of Palestine.

the country i have lived in for 18 years is a dignified member of the post-colonial world. its citizens have moral backbones. they are often murdered or imprisoned for having it.

Ok BCs I am tired of all this shit
Like LITERALLY
CAN NEWS CHANNELS LIKE NOT SHOW ABOUT POLITICS AND JUST FOCUS ON OTHER TOPICS FOR ONCE!?
NO BECAUSE ACCORDING TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THERE EXISTS MORE THAN POLITICS.
A 6 year old Hindu girl, was BRUTALLY r@ped and murdered in Kashmir! WHAT WAS THE GIRL'S FAULT? WHAT DID SHE DO?
Terrorists have attacked on the Kashmiri Hindus and news channels be like: aw man fvck that shıt we gotta show politics, that is bűllshıt
I mean, YOU CAN FOCUS ON THE MORE IMPORTANT AND CRUEL INCIDENTS IN THE COUNTRY, AM I RIGHT?
Ok i understand that without politics, the government won't work BUT CAN YOU NOT SHOW ONLY THAT SHĪT? BECAUSE I AM SICK OF THIS
Yea I also know that the NEET results came out, and what happened with the students so that is important too but CAN YOU ALSO SHOW/TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE KASHMIRI HINDUS?
NO I AM NOT RANTING BECAUSE THEY ARE HINDUS OR KASHMIRIS, I AM RANTING BECAUSE THEY. ARE. ALSO. HUMANS.
WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE AND THE TEMPLES? WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN? WHY, WHAT WAS THEIR FAULT?
Show them incidents, dear Indian news channels, don't be shy, because I do think that you are being incompetent about it :)
MORE THAN 16 FUCKING PEOPLE DIED! A CRPF soldier was killied in the Kathua attack on 11th June, more than 10 People were killed on 9th June in the Reasi attack, and 5 soldiers along with SPO are fucking injured. So i would like you news channels TO NOT SHOW POLITICS ANYMORE AND TO SHOW THESE EVENTS AS WELL, DAMNIT!
Ok I am sorry about my rant and all this but i am just pouring out my feelings about it. Ik i am just 13 but still, I think this is very very VERY wrong

right winged indians are so (i don't want to utter that word) when it comes to media literacy but all of them literally grew up in godi media so i cannot blame them either. like no one is saying INDI alliance is good. it's just the lesser evil out of the two.

omg your tags about indira's assassination reminded me of this indian international student that my roommates used to be friends with. okay so for context all three of these roommates are white, so before they knew me well she would just tell them these insane "facts" about india and whenever they were like "uhhh im not too sure about that" she would say they're all white and she knows better then them. some highlights include:
-saying that they didn't have brooms in india (so she didn't know how to use one) to justify leaving her toenails clippings in the living room (after a bit of pushing she admitted that she grew up with maids but it's actually super common!!!)
-that her islamophobia was justified because "in india muslims are actually oppressive" (this one my roommates actually tried to argue with her on and got her to stop being openly islamophobic by saying her """justified""" islamophobia would get mistaken for the racist kind of islamophobia we have in the west so it's better for her to stop 💀💀)
-one day i came downstairs to her talking to one of my roommates and she asked me "what do you think about indira gandhi's assassination" and me being raised sikh went "oh it fucking rocked i'm glad she died" which was apparently the WRONG answer because she idolized her ("she's like what hilary clinton is to you guys to me" (horrible example, my roommates are communists))
anyways i have so many stories about her (and she fucking HATED me to the point of calling me a "fake indian" (true but im not taking that from her!!) because anytime my roommates would mention anything she said about india i would go "wait that's not true at all..")
didn't have brooms in india is WILD what do they think they beat our asses with I desperately need more stories now

Sending loads of love and strength to Jewish students and professors in American colleges and universities who are dealing with a surge of antisemitism given recent events. You needn’t ever be ashamed of your religious identity and I’m sorry you were made to feel so. Hope your studies/careers continue smoothly in the future ❤️‍🩹💙🤍

Abhimanyu had ruined things.
Again.
Just like every single day.
WHY WAS HE LIKE THIS?
This was a question which he and many people around him asked frequently. This time, his victim was a beautiful angavastra, which was very dear to Balarama Mama for some unknown reasons. Abhimanyu was practicing archery, as usual. And his target had been the angavastra, unfortunately.
Now, Balarama was screeching at the top of his lungs. Like a brave boy, Abhimanyu ran to hide in some secluded corner of the palace. Perhaps there was still some time left for him to run away. Maybe he could join his father in his exile-
"This is extremely delicious." A very familiar voice speaks from behind him. "Honestly, this reminds me of the time I was a young boy."
And as Abhimanyu had expected, Krishna Mama is miraculously sitting right next to him, his hand stuffed inside a pot of maakhan, with some of it smeared on his face.
"Mama!" He cries out in relief. "You are the only one who can save me now!"
"Oh?" Krishna says, in surprise. "Is that so?"
Abhimanyu resists the strong urge to scoff. As if he doesn't know what has happened. At that exact moment, Balaram roars in anger upstairs.
"I ruined his clothes." Abhimanyu decides to explain. "Please save me just this once."
"Ah, my dear nephew." Krishna slaps his maakhan coated palm on Abhimanyu's back. "I will always save you, except for that one time- Ahem. So, where were we?"
"You were saying something about saving me from the mess I have created." Abhimanyu says, even if Krishna hasn't voiced it out yet. He doesn't need to, Abhimanyu understands it without him even saying it.
"Now, Dau has always been like this since we were children. It is normal." Krishna explains. "Open your mouth."
Abhimanyu does so, only to find Krishna feeding him maakhan. Krishna is notorious for not sharing his maakhan with anyone. It makes him feel very special, indeed.
"Run ahead, I know how to convince him!" Krishna urges, and Abhimanyu runs to the women's palace.
Just like always, Krishna Mama has saved him. And he will continue to do it, right?
...
As his bow was chopped into pieces, his charioteer and horses were killed, as his sword fell from his hands and the chariot wheel was destroyed, as Abhimanyu picked up the mace and fell down, in a faint, as his skull was smashed, he realized that this time, just this once, Krishna Mama wouldn't come to save him.

Day 3: Arjuna and Draupadi
Tumblr media
'Shakra's son presented all the beautiful and expensive gifts that Shakra had given. The ornaments, which he lovingly gave to his beloved, Sutasoma's mother, glittered like the son's rays.'
- Yaksha Yuddha Parva
"He is gentle, generous, forebearing and famous. He is brave among men. He is in control of his senses and serves his elders. Desrire, fear or avarice will never cause him to abandon Dharma. He never performs a cruel act. His energy is equal unto the fire god. His name is Dhananjaya and he is my husband."
- Draupadi Harana Parva

I'm absolutely obsessed with how mythology portrays parent-child relationships, especially when at least one divine party is involved. I've talked about Karna and Arjuna's relationship with their fathers, and how it might tie up to their characters and situations, and the Mahabharata as a whole, but they're not the only ones! Speaking exclusively about father-son dynamics in this post, and we have a lot of them!
You have Yudhisthira, whose father Yama/Dharma shows up in his son's mortal life twice (iirc), gives him a 20 min quiz each time and then tells him that no son, we don't allow dogs in heaven (which, how dare, but we all have that one parent). This is so in line with Yudhisthira's arc, poor man that he is, having to spend his whole life finding answers to questions about righteousness and honour, losing his friends, brothers, wife and children in the process.
Rama-Dasharatha and Ganesha-Shiva are pretty straightforward - there's plenty of mutual love and respect despite the horrors ™️ , but then there is Rama and Luv-Kush. If you're counting the Uttar Kand, then these boys literally saw their mother die because there father could not stop questioning her honour. That has to mess with your head. There's no way it's a happily ever after story.
Another man who interests me greatly is Yayati. Like sir... what were you doing. Who grows old and thinks, "You know what would be great? Me borrowing my son's youth" and then curses them when they refuse? What were you thinking. What were your kids thinking. I need to take your heads apart with a scalpel, this is so incredibly insane. A father should give to his children - the only thing this man "gave" was to spare Puru from his curse.
You have Bhishma and Shantanu, another wild story. I understand that Bhishma chose to give up his birthright to make Shantanu happy, but can you actually tell me Shantanu wasn't at least somewhat interested in the plan? Shantanu is Bhishma's father, it's his job to stop him from doing things like this. I feel like pulling my hair out everytime I think of this. You can tell that Bhishma was afraid for his father's well-being when he made this decision, and that so... unfair.
On the other end of the spectrum are Krishna and Vasudeva, who are wholesome to the point of despair. Vasudeva giving up his everything just to get his boy out of prison?? Waiting years and years for him, but never lamenting or cursing Krishna for not coming fast enough??? That's peak fatherhood (Shantanu take lessons). And Krishna honours that sacrifice!! He comes from idyllic Vrindavan, slays the tormentor of his parents and rips the bars of their prison!!! And that old married couple trapped within those dank, dreary walls, with no one except the other for company, watches their godly son turn up to free them and show them the sky for the first time in more than a decade - the thought of it brings me to tears. Possibly the only part I like about the change from baby!Krishna to adult!Krishna is his reunion with Vasudeva and Devaki!
Oh, and last but not least, our favourite problematic pair: Jamadagni and sons. I'm slightly terrified by how Jamadagni was like "kill your mother for me she's sinful >:(" and when four sons refused, he actually killed them. HIS OWN SONS! Admittedly, in some versions he asks Parashuram to do the killing but like... those are his brothers. Who probably swaddled him and rocked him and fed him and played with him. And all this is presumably happening right in front of Renuka. And then Parashuram has to kill his mother as well, unless he wants to be a heap of ashes.
(In some versions, including the one I've always heard as a child, Parashuram is said to be "aware of" his father's immense power, which just seems to me a really polite way to say that Parashuram knew disobeying his father had consequences ™️ that weren't always right or rational)
Worse, after the killing is done, Jamadagni is so pleased he offers Parashuram a boon, presumably with the remains of the rest of his family still nearby, and when Parashuram asks for his mother and brother to be revived, Jamadagni is all like "ooh actually I got really angry, I think I'm going to renounce rage forever. Dw btw your brothers and mother forgot you killed them you're welcome <3"
Sir??? This is what you got out of the whole issue???? No wonder Parashuram killed a whole bunch of kings, this couldn't have been healthy.
