Abhimanyu had ruined things.
Again.
Just like every single day.
WHY WAS HE LIKE THIS?
This was a question which he and many people around him asked frequently. This time, his victim was a beautiful angavastra, which was very dear to Balarama Mama for some unknown reasons. Abhimanyu was practicing archery, as usual. And his target had been the angavastra, unfortunately.
Now, Balarama was screeching at the top of his lungs. Like a brave boy, Abhimanyu ran to hide in some secluded corner of the palace. Perhaps there was still some time left for him to run away. Maybe he could join his father in his exile-
"This is extremely delicious." A very familiar voice speaks from behind him. "Honestly, this reminds me of the time I was a young boy."
And as Abhimanyu had expected, Krishna Mama is miraculously sitting right next to him, his hand stuffed inside a pot of maakhan, with some of it smeared on his face.
"Mama!" He cries out in relief. "You are the only one who can save me now!"
"Oh?" Krishna says, in surprise. "Is that so?"
Abhimanyu resists the strong urge to scoff. As if he doesn't know what has happened. At that exact moment, Balaram roars in anger upstairs.
"I ruined his clothes." Abhimanyu decides to explain. "Please save me just this once."
"Ah, my dear nephew." Krishna slaps his maakhan coated palm on Abhimanyu's back. "I will always save you, except for that one time- Ahem. So, where were we?"
"You were saying something about saving me from the mess I have created." Abhimanyu says, even if Krishna hasn't voiced it out yet. He doesn't need to, Abhimanyu understands it without him even saying it.
"Now, Dau has always been like this since we were children. It is normal." Krishna explains. "Open your mouth."
Abhimanyu does so, only to find Krishna feeding him maakhan. Krishna is notorious for not sharing his maakhan with anyone. It makes him feel very special, indeed.
"Run ahead, I know how to convince him!" Krishna urges, and Abhimanyu runs to the women's palace.
Just like always, Krishna Mama has saved him. And he will continue to do it, right?
...
As his bow was chopped into pieces, his charioteer and horses were killed, as his sword fell from his hands and the chariot wheel was destroyed, as Abhimanyu picked up the mace and fell down, in a faint, as his skull was smashed, he realized that this time, just this once, Krishna Mama wouldn't come to save him.

Mahabharata AU—pt.5
Masterlist<– rest of the parts
"WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING!?" Duryodhan yelled out. He had just asked what everyone was thinking, yet not in a good way. "Vasudev! How did you even come here? And what even happened to Arjuni!?"
Draupadi, who had been standing quiet with tears shedding from her eyes until now, finally spoke up. "Just quiet down, you pitiful excuse for a human! Her name does suit your sinful mouth! Do you still not realise what you have done?" She then looked at her husbands, and then took off her chudamani. She looked at it and threw it at her husbands' direction. "I can not see myself as the wife of those men who cannot even protect their sister!" The Pandava brothers still sat at the same place, shedding tears.
Duryodhan gritted his teeth. "YOU!-" But Bheeshma had interrupted his yell. "Vasudev, who is Naari and, what happened with Putri Arjuni?—" "Please do not call her with that name tag, Mahamahim. And for all your questions, Maharishi Ved Vyas is going to arive shortly to answer them." Devakinandan replied coldly. He laid down Arjuni's unconscious body on the ground and put her head on his lap.
After this, there was a great cacophony in the hall, filling the room with shouts and yells coming from all directions. Draupadi was yelling at Dharmaraj and his brothers because of their incompetence. Gandhari's red cloth covering her eyes was already wet from her tears, unprepared for the terrible fate that might befall her sons. "Please... please forgive my sons, Krishna." Gandhari sobbed, wailing.
A mother's cries always made Krishna feel sorry. "Even if I forgive them, their safety depends on their next actions." Krishna's voice softened. "If one hundred of your children will touch the feet of Parthavi, and repent of their sins, I promise to spare their lives."
Hearing such 'explicit' sentences forced words out of Dhritarashtra's mouth, who was already blind yet still blinded by power and love for his children. "B-but, aren't my children your cousins too Vasudev? Don't you have any compassion for them?"
"Maharaj is right, Vasudev." Gandhar Raj Shakuni was still doubtful about everything he saw. It could be, that all of this is, just an illusion created by Krishna. Shakuni indeed appreciated the strength shown by the noblest Yadava, but he also thought that the man was just a cunning deceiver. "How about you explain all of what you mean? I mean, you should not take sides, Vasudev..." Shakuni gave his sly grin again, putting great emphasis on the words.
"I don't owe anyone any explanation, Gandhar Raj." Krishna smiled mockingly. "Even if I explain what i mean, to you, you definitely won't accept it." Krishna looked down at Duryodhan coldly. "If Duryodhan has even one quality that Parthavi has, then he could ask me for something." He then looked at Arjuni and stroked her hair, watching as her chest went up and down with each tranquil breathe she took, still unconscious. "Parthavi never ever envied me. She did many things without expecting anything, other than love from me. Her devotion was pure and sincere. She also trusts me more than herself."
He then looked up at Shakuni. "Tell me, Gandhar Raj. Would your dearest nephew kill himself if I told him to?" Shakuni straightened up, at a loss of words. Krishna waited for some time, and then asked Yudhishthir, his back facing the former king of Indraprastha. "Tell me, Bhrata Yudhishthir, would Parthavi do it?"
Yudhishthir shuddered at the thought of it. "...She would do it without any hesitation. Even if I ask otherwise. No questions will be asked." Yudhistir had long been aware, if one day Arjuni had to choose between her Madhav and her Jyesth, Yudhishthir knew he would lose.
Krishna smiled in satisfaction. "Do you think I don't know that your dice were made from the bones of your father, Gandhar Raj? What kind of son are you, who doesn't give his father peace even after death. Worse still, you always make him a part of your sins."
Shakuni's eyes narrowed. "Now you are just making accusations without proof, Vasudev."
Krishna shook his head. "I have nothing more to achieve by accusing you Gandhar Raj, as my Parthavi is now safe in my arms. I will not demand anything from you personally." Krishna then turned his gaze to the Pandavas again. "But your nephew clearly has many demands, Gandhar Raj."
Yudhishthir's face was clearly showing that he was thinking about many things, about how Bheem would demand revenge, while Nakul and Sahadev were still filled with worry and guilt for their Jyesthaa as well as their second mother. As a gift from Ashwinikumars, the twins always felt responsible for the health of their siblings.
The heated conversation stopped when Maharishi Vyas entered the room. "Greetings, Maharaj..."

Unarut
Thai Lakhon Nai Dance-Drama
Lakhon Nai was originally only performed in royal courts and exclusively by women performers.
Where Khon, the masked Dance-Drama, depicted tales solely from the Ramakien (a Thai version of the Indian epic, The Ramayana.)
Lakhon Nai had four epics in its repertoire:
The Ramakien (whose influence can not be overstated enough.)
Inao (which I've already talked about at length)
Dalang (an alternative version of Inao)
Unarut (tales of the Indian God Krishna's nephew)
The Thai Dance-Drama deals with the romance between Unarut and Osha or Aniruddha and Usha, as they are known in the Indian myth.
Unarut is usually shown wearing a yellow costume.
It's frustratingly hard to find much information in English about this drama but the Indian myth goes like this:
Usha, daughter of King Banasura, dreamt one night of a beautiful man. She was instantly smitten and they made love in her dream.
Heartsick when she woke, she told her friend Chitralekha all about it. She wanted to find this man but she didn't know his name.
Chitralekha (who is the best kind of friend to have,) was a talented artist and she drew pictures based on Usha's descriptions until she created one that was an exact match for Usha's dream.
Not only that, but her friend recognised the man as Krishna's grandson and used her yogic powers to transport him, bed and all(!) to Usha's room.
Thankfully, for them, Aniruddha woke up surprised but receptive to the attentions of a beautiful princess and Usha kept him hidden in her room for longer than you would think a princess would be able to manage.
But eventually, Banasura would grow suspicious, (probably because his daughter never left her bedroom anymore,) and he discovered them and imprisoned Aniruddha.
But Aniruddha had an army looking for him and it all culminates in a huge war, where Shiva appears to protect Banasura and Krishna turns up to fight against him.
Eventually, it is Krishna who needs to be appeased, with Shiva begging for him to be calm. (did anyone else see that coming because I did not!)
Banasura is duly humbled (but gets to keep his life,) and Aniruddha and Usha reunite and promptly marry.

Things I learned while re-watching Star Plus Mahabharata (Part 19/many):
Kansa’s death scene is A+, 10/10.
Boy Krishna literally looks like Devaki!
I know where else I have seen Boy Krishna! He plays Pradyumna in Radhakrishna!
Arjun, Bhim and Drupad have no chill and I am here for this rage. Let’s keep this going until the war starts.
It is very sad that in Kalyug a woman has to fend for her own honour when ideally it should be a joint effort by men and women.
The only appropriate reaction to a man attempting to dishonour your wife was shown by Krishna and by Ram before him = decapitation. I will not be hearing arguments against this at this time.
We should not be resorting to war. WELL YOU AND YOUR NEPHEWS SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE THAT GAME OF DICE KAKASHRI VIDUR.
I am here for this Panchali. What did you decide? What did Madhav have to say?
Panchali is against the peace proposal and honestly I am on her side.
Panchali is 100% right. The decision to fight or not is Panchali’s. Not the Pandavas. Because for every action and reaction of men, it is the women and their children who suffer. She is 100/100 right.
At least she has Krishna on her side who has absolutely no qualms in pretending anything other than the fact that he really badly wants this war. This is literally what he was put on earth to do.
In the actual story, Duryodhan offers to put Krishna up in Dushasan’s palace which was allegedly bigger and better than the main palace. And Krishna declines because he wishes to stay in Vidur’s palace but StarBharat fails to show why. It’s because Krishna’s aunt, Kunti, lives with Vidur and I think it is the most natural thing in the world that he would want to stay with his aunt rather than with these random cousins by marriage.
I am sorry sweetie (Krishna) there is no dharm ka phool in Angaraj Karna’s heart. He's a social climber.
Aye hai laddoo Gopal really be here turning all this karela into laddoos.
Nice that they gave some screen time to Vidur’s wife. Now they need to do this 200x with all the female characters.
Krishna is…right? Yudhishthir should have been crowned Yuvraj the moment Pandu died and the Pandavas came to Hastinapur. Dhritarashtra was a placeholder king and his son cannot inherit this throne. It is a different matter altogether that Dhritarashtra was the rightful king and that they should have never crowned Pandu as king.
Krishna coming at the Kauravas with one banger after another. Their behaviour towards Draupadi cannot be forgiven. And not just Duryodhan, every man in that Sabha was culpable.
Is Duryodhan really going to bind Krishna with those big ass fake looking gold chains? This seems like a bad idea.
Krishna is asking for five villages for the five Pandavas. But Duryodhan has nothing if not his principles.
Karna is sooo annoying. Oh my god, we get it. You would give your life for your rich pals.
At least Bhishma, Vidur and Dronacharya are showing some good sense now. Long overdue.
Oho! Even Dhritarashtra has the good sense to agree to this five village business.
Lol, I can’t wait for Duryodhan to try and imprison Krishna.
I’m also waiting for the needle’s head worth of land line. Will StarBharat oblige?
StarBharat has obliged! Duryodhan will not concede a needle’s worth of land.
Krishna looks...mildly discomfited.
Arrest this cowherd LMAAOOO
The big ass fake looking gold chains are here.
The soldiers can’t even get up, let alone pick up the chains. How underwhelming.
Is StarBharat also going to show me the wondrous scene where Dhritarashtra temporarily gets his vision? Coz that would be cool.
Oh finally someone (Karna) has the sense to say that this is not how one behaves with a peace messenger.
Chal, gwale! I am ded 🤣
What happened to the Vishwaroop scene in the middle of the Hastinapur court??
Very attracted right now to moustached Krishna dressed like a guard.
Calm down, think of Jesus.
Is Krishna also dressed like Vikarna and Karna?
Accha, Drona also.
And Pitamaha.
This is fun!
Mamashri Shakuni 😂
Kakashri Vidur. I could do this forever.
SRJ looks amazing as all these characters. Even Dhritarashtra.
Where did Krishna transport them? On the banks of the Ganga? Dwarka?
Did Krishna strike Duryodhan’s thigh?
YAAAAS
Dhritarashtra can see the Vishwaroop!
Apparently, after this, Krishna gave him the option of retaining his sight. And Dhritarashtra said that after having seen the Vishwaroop to see other sights on earth was simply not worth it.
Should’ve kept his sight for the war but he has his satellite dish Sanjay.
Okay Krishna has left. This was anticlimactic.
Oh cool, Krishna is going to play the Kunti card.
I simply love Kunti’s character and every scene with Krishna and Kunti in the same frame is simply golden.
Kunti’s entire personality is so on brand with the no chill Yadav mood.
Please do not for one second pretend that you altruistically care about the child you abandoned at birth. You’re doing this to save the skins of the five sons you actually give a damn about.
At least Radha is slightly more realistic about Karna than Kunti is.
Radha and Vrushali are like, how do you know this, Vaasudev? Vaasudev (probably): I drink and I know things.
Nothing will astonish me as much as my progression in life going from a Karna Stan to an absolute Karna Skeptic.
Karna is a social climber. That is all I have to say on this topic.
The only thing admirable about Karna’s character is his loyalty towards Duryodhan.
Also, where is this conversation between Krishna and Karna taking place? On the banks of the Ganga? Yamuna? The sea beach at Dwarka?
Where is the big speech Krishna gives to Karna? Where he promised that Draupadi will marry him (HA, AS IF) and that Yudishthira will crown him King of Hastinapur (that fool might just) if he fights on behalf of the Pandavas.
Are all Radhas this terrible? Are they all hell bent on stealing for themselves things that do not belong to them? Why won’t this awful woman own up to the fact that she’s not Karna’s biological mom?
Okay Karna is back on the banks of this mysterious water body.
I will have you all know that Karna may be suddenly having feels for Kunti, but was totally okay to sacrifice her during the Varnavat episode.
Oh goddamn it, Starbharat!
Hitting me right in the feels when I least expect it.
Karna thinking back to all the times he was with Arjun, not knowing that they were brothers.
I’m not going to lie. Karna is in an impossible spot. Damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.
Now I am remembering why child me Stanned Karna so much.
I may not like Karna but at least I respect him for supporting Duryodhan.
I can’t wait for Queen of Resting Bitch Face, Kunti, to come and beg for her sons’ lives from Karna, when she literally does not give a damn if Karna lives or dies. Kunti knows which side her bread is buttered. Such a Yadav.
Oh this Karna-Vrushali scene is A+, 10/10. I really wish StarBharat gave more screen time to its women.
Okay I feel bad for Kunti also, mostly because I love Kunti.
But let us not pretend that given a choice between her Parth and this veritable stranger, she will always always choose Arjun.
She had to do this for Kuntibhoj, her poor father, who loved her so much, who couldn’t have children and all he ever wanted was a child of his own, so much so that he begged Shoorsena to give him one of his daughters.
I think what’s worse is that Kunti knew. Right from the beginning. And she stayed quiet. That was not right.
StarBharat really be here trying to make me feel for Karna again. Smh.
How tf will Karna be a Pandava? When Kunti wasn’t even mf married to Pandu when she gave birth to Karna?
Karna talking about Duryodhana while the Dharmecha shlok plays in the background. Chills.
I have a story called The tree stump on Karna, in case you are interested.
Yeah Kunti f*cked up here. I support Karna. He is nothing but a prisoner of birth.
Pretty big of Karna to ask Kunti not to tell his brothers. Uncharacteristic of a social climber. He’s not a bad soul, I guess.
I don’t know if it’s Kunti’s dialogue or her acting or the background score but I am tearing up. No assholes here.
Kunti might as well cry because if Karna refuses to call her Mata until Arjun dies, she’s never going to hear it from him. Coz he will be dead.
It’s okay, Kunti, you can relax. You got what you came here for (ish).

Mahabharata (any characters or pairing) + college au + meet messy + “alexa, play wonderwall.” (at this point im just picking things at random lol)
play wonderwall : you’ll see lol basically used this as an excuse to write a version of the scene u and i both acknowledge as our favorite. the single most iconic scene in the entire epic, bar none. for our sake, i really hope that you like it!! also the “meet messy” is basically random people in the crowd meeting this trainwreck of a family in all of its glory. also i think rhea’s modern au krishna goes by shyam yadav??? i tried to use a different first name at least but none of them sounded as nice so i gave up lol sorry rhea.
--
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
It seems like the entire university is gathered on the front lawn to watch the swearing-in ceremony of new Union President Dharamraj Kuru after what many reported to be the nastiest student election season perhaps ever seen. Jarasandha Magadh, after years of refusing to graduate, had at the last minute been put in the hospital and, apparently, sustained injuries so extensive that it had effectively argued that his already completed coursework should be all that was counted when factoring in his final mark.
“Especially given said student’s...extensive history...with this institution,” Shyam had apparently said when arguing Jarasandha’s case to University Administration, Jarasandha himself completely unaware and apparently furious when he was brought out of his medically induced coma.
Jarasandha’s party’s hastily promoted candidate Sahadeva was wildly acknowledged to be weak, young, and meant to be nothing more than a rubber stamp on business as usual. Dharamraj, whose upstart campaign effectively communicated how poorly “business as usual” had treated the student body, was suddenly flooded with factions of students seeking an alliance so that their respective organizations might be allocated larger portions of the budget everyone assumed Dharamraj would soon control.
Everyone was right. Dharamraj won in a landslide, and now here everybody is, watching him deliver his maiden speech as their new President.
“Shisupal,” Dharamraj sighs, “what exactly is your problem?”
“My problem,” Shisupal shrieks, walking up to the dais from where Dharamraj stands, surrounded by his friends, family, and his girlfriend Yagna. “You’re asking me what my problem is, Brother?”
“Brother?” someone in the crowd asks, too low to be heard at the front.
“I think they’re related on their mother’s side,” someone else responds. “Both their mothers are sisters, but Pritha was adopted out to a friend of her father so was never close to her biological siblings.”
“Jesus,” another laughs, “are they all just cousins?”
A wide assortment of Kurus stand on stage, jubilant after so many years of them trying and failing to win elections at the university their fathers had once ruled. Yagna, from a prominent family herself, at Dharamraj’s side. Shyam Yadav, whose sister Subhadra is in love with Dhananjaya and whose father was like a brother to Pritha when she was lonely in Kuntibhoj and Vasudev not imprisoned with his wife.
Yes, they really are all just cousins.
Vrikodara steps in front of Dharamraj, arms crossed and looming nearly half a metre taller than Shishupal. Yet, Shishupal is not cowed -- though many men more intelligent than he would have been.
“I’m not afraid of you, asshole. Everyone knows you’re just the gun in Dharamraj’s hand, and your brother is a pacifist. You won’t touch me.”
“You would be surprised,” Dharamraj says mildly, smiling slightly as the crowd laughs at the thought of violence from the slightly frail Dharma, always seen in the library or sitting under the tree outside it, smoking cigarettes as he argues with professors twice his age about obscure legalities and wins.
“You wouldn’t hurt a fly,” Shishupal spits, “you’re too much of a coward to hit a person when they know it’s coming. That’s why you’re just stabbing us in the back, selling us out on the first day when we put our reputations on the line to back you for President.”
“Shisupal!” Vrikodara roars, Dhananjaya striding to stand next to him, Suyodhana and Radheya on either flank despite what is rumored to be their own tensions with Pandu’s sons. The family is closing ranks at this attack from one their own, it seems, but then what is University politics if not a way for people to find some entertainment from other people’s drama.
“What,” Shishupal retorts, “you expect us all to shut up while you commit to sinking half of the budget into that wastrel’s pathetic fund? You plan on just giving our money away to anyone who spins a sad life story and begs for cash?”
Well, University politics is about this too -- the eternal question of which students should be helped, and how much. The fund in question is the brainchild of Shyam, a way for individuals to apply for rapid monetary relief in response to uncontrollable circumstances, and be granted what they need with almost no questions asked.
“Shisupal,” Dhananjaya steps forward, sensitive as always when his best (and only) friend’s name is brought up. “We’ve let you get away with more than we should because you happen to be our mother’s nephew. If you continue to embarrass us in public it won’t end well.” Shishupal laughs. “For you or for me? As far as I can see, you’ve all been duped by that street-trash pretending to be Vasudev Yadav’s son.”
Dhananjaya glares. “Uncle Vasudev is more our mother’s brother than your mother is her sister. Slander his name at your own risk.” Again, Shishupal refuses to cower despite what the crowd acknowledges as fierce odds -- Dhananjaya doesn’t actually attend the University, only visits frequently from the Indian Air Force Academy to spend time with Shyam, and his brothers sometimes as well. The man is licensed to shoot a gun, for god’s sake, but Shishupal continues to stand firm.
“Even now, you’re all standing in front of him,” Shishupal taunts, “Dancing to his tune and protecting his reputation when you know as well as I where he came from. He didn’t even speak English until he left that shithole after killing his own uncle, and you idiots are planning to sink my money into his scheme? Not on my watch.”
“No,” a voice comes from the back of the group on the dais, “there’s no need to make that face. I can fight my own battles, Dhananjaya. Especially against an absolute clown, like Shishupal.”
“A clown,” Shishupal shouts, “you’re calling me a clown?”
Shyam rolls his eyes, having pushed his way to the front. Behind him Vrikodara is grinding his teeth, Dhananjaya’s fingers hovering at his own waist as if wishing for a gun.
“Well I could have called you a motherfucker,” Shyam shrugs, “but I’m quite fond of your mother. In fact, she was the one who’s begged me to forgive you every time you’ve done something like this.”
Shishupal snarls. “My mother doesn’t beg, street-trash, and she certainly wouldn’t lower herself to beg from you. People like you are only demanded from.”
Shyam shrugs again. “Suit yourself. But consider this your last warning -- say another word, and I won’t let you go like I did before.”
“Before? Before?” For some reason, Shyam’s threat has only made Shishupal angrier, face turning purple where it was red. “Before, as in that time last year, when you stole my wife from the wedding hall at gunpoint. Is that what you mean by before?”
The crowd goes still at the reminder of the biggest controversy to rock their collective social circle.
Shyam raises an eyebrow. “The whole point of that was that she wasn’t your wife when we left.” His lip curls in a sneer of his own, eyes suddenly cold. “You were treating her so poorly that she asked what to her was a complete stranger to kidnap her on her wedding day. I wouldn’t talk so loudly about before.”
Nearly a year ago, Shishupal was to be married to Rukmini Bhoja after years of forcing her to stand attendance at his side during all campus events, despite her not actually being enrolled as a student. Both of their families were rich, well connected, and sought increased prestige through connection with the other. It was, people remarked, on paper the perfect match.
Of course, Rukmini was intelligent, witty, kind, and one of the most beautiful women most people had ever seen. Shishupal passed classes off of sheer intimidation, threw rocks at the college cats, and supplemented these qualities with his insistence on growing a patchy, horrible, beard and kept his oily, stringy hair long. Worse, there were rumors that Shishupal was even meaner drunk than he was sober, and that once Rukmini had been seen walking away from him clutching her arm and had returned with a scarf wrapped around her shoulders to cover where otherwise might have been a visible pattern of bruises.
The wedding, everyone had agreed, was to be a tragedy, and would only serve to make Shishupal even more insufferable. When the nightly news had aired the extraordinary report of a young woman staging her own kidnapping, apparently begging one of the groom’s family connections to attend her wedding and hold a gun to her head as they walked out, it was widely agreed to be answer to their prayers, and above all a job very well done by the erstwhile bride to be. When it was revealed that the “kidnapper” was Shyam, well, that just made the whole thing even funnier.
When classes restarted, Shishupal prowled with a whole new look -- clean-shaven, and short hair. Rukmini Bhoja was noticeably absent from campus events, but a few months in Shyam had been seen getting off the bus at the station near campus and kissing someone who looked just like Rukmini goodbye.
It seems the rumors about that last bit had found Shishupal too. “Stranger,” he scoffs. “Is that what we’re calling it these days?”
Shyam’s entire body, always loose, always slightly in motion, goes completely stiff. More than Dhananjaya, more than Vrikodara, it is Shyam who now suddenly looks like an apex predator. The crowd, not even the one facing Shyam directly, finds itself taking a step back.
“What exactly is it that we’re calling,” Shyam asks softly -- sound only heard because it’s being picked up by the microphone on the podium awaiting the rest of Dharamraj’s long-forgotten speech.
Shishupal rolls his eyes, sneering. “I’m glad that bitch made such a spectacle of herself when calling off the wedding. I wouldn’t have wanted to marry a whore, you know. Why take seven rounds to get something she sells, no?” He smirks, as the entire group on the dais -- the whole horrible writhing mass of Kurus and their assorted friends and family -- advance as one. “Or, I guess she was the one who was buying,” Shishupal laughs, looking at Shyam who appears to be frozen in place, his face a perfect picture of overwhelming rage. “She paid you to take her, didn’t she? Poor bitch didn’t even think you’d fuck her for fr--”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU SON OF A BITCH!”
Shishupal’s eyes immediately roll up into his skull, as a result of Shyam Yadav’s fist colliding with Shishupal’s jaw. No one bothers to catch the body.
Silence reigns for entire minutes as everyone watches Shishupal, crumpled on the ground. Watches Shyam Yadav, standing over him wild-eyed, with his right hand still in a fist.
“Oh Alexa,” a gentle female voice calls out from the crowd. Everyone turns to stare, open-mouthed, at Rukmini Bhoja standing in the front row, absolutely grinning at this turn of events. She gazes back at them, turning towards Shyam again and laughs. “Alexa this is so sad. Play ‘Mmm Whatcha Say.”
#ok i will say that the idea of rukmini basically organizing her own kidnapping/hit job where she hires krishna to attend and kidnap her at g#thats chefs kiss to me#i cant believe i never thought of that before its t ha t funny#mahabharata#also the mm watcha say gag was too good to not include when he gets clocked the fuck out at the end sorry lol#also i decided to make vasudev only brother-like for kunti#so that subhadra/krishna arent arjuna's cousins lol#also she seems even in canon to be closer to vasudev than her other siblings so we're rolling with it#anyways i hope u like it!!!!#these are all being churned out like stream of consciousness and then i hit publish lol so i have no idea if theyre any good at all#but thank u for the opportunity to put a version of this down on paper#maya writes#avani008#also lol i used none of their traditional names because i thought it would be funnier to give them all long pretentious names that flowed ni#*nice

Sarcastic StarBharat Reviews: Episode 14- In which a (completely non-canon) coronation is stopped.
Tagging @butchcaroldanvers, @mayavanavihariniharini, @medhasree, @chaanv @shaonharryandpannisim @allegoriesinmediasres @hermioneaubreymiachase @iamnotthat @ratnas-musings @justahappyreindeer @avani008. I’m forgetting someone...
The episode begins exactly where the last one ends. “Who dares?” asks Mr. Permanently Angry Drama Queen. Gandhari stutters a hesitant “husband…” I am NOT going to use the word ‘arya’. For some reason, if freaks me out. Another voice joins in “Putr Dhritrashtra”. “Mata?” “Are you ready, son?” “I have been ready for years, mother.” Yeah, Mr. Conceited Ego, we all know how ready you were. BTW, I think I have not pointed this out, thinking it obvious, but in case it isn’t, it’s a CANON FAIL #23: I don’t remember Dhritrashtra being the original person to be crowned. From what I know of canon, it was always Pandu. I’m not sure if Dhritrashtra was crowned after Pandu’s exile, but I doubt it, seeing that it was always Yudhisthir who was apparently the heir to the throne. “You will be Hastina’s King today” says Ambika. She gushes a bit about her happiness. She ends with “We should be there by the time Pandu and Vidur have finished taking the oaths. Come, Gandhari.” Mr. Drama Queen has to keep adding unnecessary drama (I’m actually kinda feeling sorry for the actor by now) and he says “Tell her not to walk by my side.” Dude, she’s your wife, isn’t she? Ms. Always Patnidharm? (This ain’t canon Gandhari, either). “If my pace slows while walking towards the throne for any reason, I will not bear it!” Ah, apparently this show has had enough of psycho ladies. Time for psycho dudes! Psycho dude #1: Mr. Drama Queen. #2 is Shakuni, I’ll defo come up with some name for him too. I think Mr. Ominous Music is good. Dhritrashtra strides off. “Come, sister. Whether or not you walk equally, he can’t sit on the throne without you.” This, quite obviously, is Mr. Ominous Music. Scene switches to an elaborate ceremony. Mr. Honey Boy and Vidur are here. They go stand on two sides of the hall. They do the required salutations. Vidur is the first to start the oath. He and Pandu do it in tandem. Vidur represents the virtues of justice, Pandu those of valour. They are handed the ceremonial spectre and the ceremonial armor respectively. They make oaths to the respective item. With that, the jayjaykars begin and the ceremony comes to an end. Mr. Drama Queen strides in with his usual angry strides, followed by Ms. Always Patnidharm, Mr. Ominous Music et al. He gives perfunctory pranipaats. Bhishm pointedly doesn’t bless him, his usual customary ‘Ayushmaan Bhav’ is missing. Satyavati gives him a blessing and then outlines her hopes. “The throne of Hastina will receive its lord today,” she says. (You’re right, lady, but the lord in question is not the one you think it is…here anyway). “This is one of the happiest moments of my life. Today, you will lift the weight of your father’s nations on your shoulders, that has been borne by myself and Bhishm for so long. Now is the time for your coronation.” Mr. Angry Drama Queen manages to look both angry and dramatic as he ascends the steps to the throne. He joins his hands as Bhishm passes the ceremonial sword to him. “Stop, elder brother,” This is Vidur. Ah, the moment of reckoning is here. “Mahamantri Vidur, how can you do something so inauspicious?” This is Satyavati. “The reason is that I just swore the oath of the Mahamantri.” He repeats that oath. “Hence,” he says “It is mandatory for me to stop this Adharm.” “What Adharm, Mahamantri?” “This coronation, Rajmata.” Cue shocking music. “A man who is blind from birth is not eligible to become a King.” This is further extension of Canon Fail #23, kindly note. Also, for all of Vidur’s ableist words, apparently, this made sense in the culture of that time…but I am not sure. Obviously, Mr. Angry Drama Queen is not going to take it well. But then, if it made sense in the culture of the time, enough that Dhritrashtra, to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I am wrong, folks) was never a candidate for the King at least until Pandu exiles himself, even after that I think he was more of a place holder type King, not the King regnant. People with better canon knowledge than I, please comment. The scene drags on a bit, with repetition of the above dialogue. “You are saying this now? You knew about the coronation beforehand.” Good question, also one that was in my mind, too. “With situation, dharma changes, Rajmata.” “Dharma and change?” This is Mr. Ominous Music, henceforth also dubbed Mr. Annoying Poseur. “This is the first time I have heard of it. I have heard of selfishness changing, but Dharm? Yes, but Hastinapur is a large Kingdom. Maybe the rules are different here.” “Yuvaraj Shakuni!” Here comes the Paragon of Perfection. “You do not have the right to speak in our dynastic issues.” “Forgive me, Mahamahim Bhishm, but a brother has a right to speak in his sister’s stead. Dharma says so, in the entirety of Aryavrata. Whether this is Dharma in Hastina or it has changed, only Mahagyaani Vidur can say so.” “I can answer your question also. Seeing no fault in his elder brother is a younger brother’s Dharma.” Title BGM starts playing. Ah, so this is important. “But when it comes to a King’s virtues and vices, then it is the Mahamantri’s dharma not to see the man as his brother.” “Only the eldest son of a family has the right over the throne, Mahamantri Vidur,” says Satyavati. She’s seriously sounding like a broken record by now. “If every son of the family is equally eligible, only then does the eldest have that right.” He then goes off into obscure philosophy that we don’t need, about Ashad and Shravan, so I am not noting that here. “When thinking between age and virtue, virtue is more important, Rajmata.” Title BGM plays again. Audience, please take note. There is some discourse about the Shaastrs but the long and short of it is that only an able bodied man can be King, according to them. “Not in a deficient man.” Finishes Vidur. Mr. Drama Queen has had enough. “Deficient!” he exclaims. All eyes turn to him. “Me, deficient!” “Forgive me, elder brother.” “Silence! Silence. I have been insulted enough, Vidur. When your ever-changeable dharma has left this Court, send for me.” He descends the stairs and strides back as everyone watches, absolutely shocked. Honey Boy comes to his senses first. “Elder brother!” He calls. “Stop!” But he strides away. Ms. Always Patnidharm (I refuse to give this caricature Gandhari’s name. The Gandhari I know has a lot of self-esteem) asks Sukhdha to take her to her husband. “Just because he is blind, we cannot accept that, Mahamantri Vidur.” “Eyesight is the first and foremost weapon of a King, Rajmata. Unless a King can read a man’s intents on his face, he cannot find hidden enemies in his court. When a King goes on progress, he sees the people with his eyes. How can a blind man do that?” “For all that only we have a Mahamantri, all the ministers, the Senapati.” “Forgive me, but we all have the duty to follow the King.” Dhritrashtra knocks braziers down. “Brother, listen to me,” says Honey Boy. “What else is left to listen, Pandu?” Dhritrashtra goes off on a rant about what a special snowflake he is. “Only Vidur has said so, brother. Since he is the Mahamantri, maybe he considers that his duty. But, we can also keep our side to…” Mr. Drama Queen knocks his brother off. “Ask for favours? Beg for favours? I am the eldest son of this dynasty! All those people who should by rights ask me for favours, you want me to beg in front of them?” “Please calm down!” “I am calm, Pandu! If I were not, I’d have killed you for your betrayal!” Huh? The one mistake Honey Boy is doing is that he’s too considerate of Drama Queen. Since when did he betray Drama Queen? “Betrayal? Brother, I have never…” “I know everything! You and that Dasi-Putr have planned this out. Talking about love and dharma, you want to steal my rights from me! You want to be King!” “This is a false accusation, brother! I have never even thought of such a thing in the wildest of my dreams!” “Go away, Pandu! Or you will burn in the flame of my anger.” Drama Queen pushes Honey Boy away, knocks another brazier down, growls, and strides off again. We come back to Vidur. The previous dialogue that he said is repeated again. “It is a King’s duty to be whole and full of virtue,” Vidur finishes. “And that’s you, Vidhvaan Vidur,” says Mr. Ominous Music. “Of course, you think of yourself alone as worthy.” “Gandhaar Yuvaraj!” This is Mr. Paragon of Perfection. Satyavati stops him with a raised hand. “Give him an answer, Mahamantri Vidur.” He bows. “A thorn’s duty to guard the tree, Rajmata,” he says to the strains of a sad theme BGM. “He neither aspires nor has the ability to replace a flower. I too am a thorn like that in the tree of this dynasty.” Why this much flowery language, bro? “When the subject of the country’s greater good comes to the fore, I will definitely bend. I know that God is always offered flowers, the thorns are thrown away first. But I have no sadness for that. I will always do my duty.” “Rajmata,” says Mr. Paragon of Perfection, “Vidur’s devotion to the throne of Hastina is complete, I have no doubt of that.” Just like that, everything is forgiven by Satyavati. “You are saying the right thing, Son of Ganga. But the throne cannot be empty anymore.” “That is why I advice that elder brother Pandu should have the throne.” Cue title BGM. The camera pans on everyone’s faces, finally focusing on Pandu who is standing at the threshold of the hall. Episode ends. I like this episode! You know why? No Krishna Gyaan! Yay!! Also, Vidur, how I wish you taught your younger nephews that dharma changes according to situation. If only you taught them that, they would not have obeyed their git of an elder brother when he sold them and their wife in a dice game…ah how I wish that! Precap: “There has been injustice with Gandhari, father, injustice and that truth is hurting my heart like a knife.” Yells Mr. Annoying Poseur as he drives a knife into his leg. Okay, that, too, as far as I know, is non canon, so here we have canon fail #24. “Shakuni!” Yells the queen.

@medhasree asked for a DVD Commentary for the last scene of pravilabhate. Under a cut because it’s sizeable.
So I know, I know Arjuna is Yudhishtira’s heir at this point, but this worked better for me so whatevs.
On the fifteenth day of the Yadavas’ visit, Emperor Yudhisthira holds court in Hastinapuri in awful splendour, and with Prince Parikshit in his lap.
“As clear a declaration as any,” Lakshmana murmurs. “Has a day been fixed for the coronation?”
“On Brihaspati’s day,” Yuyutsu murmurs back. “Did you doubt this would happen?”
I am also very curious about this, and I suppose Yaudheya is only quasi-canonical? But anyway, I wanted to emphasise the fact that even Yuyutsu--who knows more than the others--doesn’t actually know why the Pandavas are doing what they’re doing.
Yuyutsu himself is unsure of the way of it, of whether Princess Devika’s son too perished in battle childless, that Yudhisthira has to turn to his brother’s grandson. There were many dead in Kurukshetra, but surely the wailing would have been great for Yaudheya. King Shivi has sons and grandsons enough to be in no need of an heir from his daughter.
Except I agree with Lakshmana about this, and it feels like the best explanation for Parikshit, that he’s there because he’s the Yadava candidate.
“No,” Lakshmana says. “What the Yadavas set their minds to, they achieve, though the greatest archers of the Kurus stand in their way. Who now lives that knows it as well as I?”
“He would have pursued you until his death, but that your father feared the anger of Prince Balabhadra.”
“I blame neither him nor my father; I regret only that Prince Balabhadra’s neutrality did not come upon him earlier, that I might have had a husband my father or I chose.”
“Princess,” he reprimands, and when she nods, adds, “and you must learn not to call Karna a Kuru when listening ears are about.”
I have SO MANY FEELINGS about the ways in which Karna fits into Lakshmana’s family, because he’s the protector who failed her (but so did her father) and he’s almost her father (but he’s not) and he’s one of her favourite uncles (but he’s low-caste) and how all of that is secondary to her determination to uphold his reputation even if she has to lie about it, and to not give way to the posthumous Pandava claiming of Karna.
Lakshmana laughs a brief peal of merriment that mingles better with the general gaiety than her wonted solemnity. “But he was not the best of the Padavas; that we know only too well. I am enough a Kaurava woman to lie if I must, to honour a man my father loved as he did my mother.”
“And you, Princess?”
“When I think of arms around me, I see only my husband; how fortunate, Uncle, that it is a true answer as well as the dutiful one.”
“Lakshmana.”
We’re all in agreement that Samba’s a nightmare, right? Cause Samba’s a nightmare.
“I do not care to be in further danger, in the home of the Yadavas, with my husband who…” Fifteen days she’s been in her home again and this is the first Yuyutsu sees Lakshmana break, lose her composure; perhaps she has wept in her mother’s arms or in Dushala’s. “If he were such a one as his father, I could have forged happiness with my husband; with such as he is, I seek only safety.”
“You know of your mother’s hopes,” he essays when she has turned again to look at Parikshita babbling joyfully on.
Lakshmana has been married for eight years and each of those years has been hell, because she can also see how good the other Yadava wives have it, by and large.
“I know my husband, and I know the love his father bears him, and the love my uncles bear my father-in-law. I know what such love does to the hopes of women. Do not speak to me of hopes, Uncle, let me have what I can of peace.”
This is just supposed to be cute; there are references to other stories in it but mostly it’s a nice moment of Pandava-Yadava amity while the Kauravas are fucked up. So there’s Arjuna/Subhadra/Draupadi clustered together; Bhima and Nakula offering characteristic favours; Satyajit unaware of the tulabharam episode as a Yadava in-joke.
On the day after Parikshit’s coronation as Crown Prince of Hastinapuri and Indraprastha, Yudhisthira grants boons to those who seek them, in his great-nephew’s name. Parikshit himself sits on his grandmother’s lap, Panchali and Partha flanking him and distracting him with sweets. The boons asked are of a nature to rouse waves of laughter, and make the little prince dance in Princess Subhadra’s gentle grip, delighted to be at the centre of so much attention. Bhima asks for permission to cook a feast in Parikshit’s name, Nakula to give milch cows to villagers in need, Princess Prabhavati to dedicate a temple to Lord Indra, long neglected among the Yadavas, and Prince Bhanu a school for worthy young men of the merchant castes. Even formidable Satyajit, King of Panchal with his score of dead brothers and nephews, asks to donate Parikshit’s weight in gold to the consecration of Khandavaprastha as sacred ground, a request that sends a howl of laughter rising from among the Yadavas, aimed perplexingly at Princess Satyabhama.
I love Bhanumati, just in case you couldn’t tell. I also love how Yuyutsu and Dushala, who started the story hostile and still don’t precisely like each other, click close in that ride-or-die sibling way.
Into the dying echoes of laughter steps Princess Bhanumati, robed austerely in white and bedecked with pearls, like a wave of the Ganga crashing ashore. In her wake comes Dushala, like a raft towed by a swan-ship, and takes Yuyutsu’s proffered hand, the seat empty next to his. Now they are three, when Yuyutsu had thought to be the only Kaurava at court, their father unwilling and Lakshmana absent and the other Princesses uninterested. Even Bhanumati has come to court only once before since he’s returned, and that to coax her daughter into speech.
“You should have told me,” he murmurs to Dushala, as Prince Balabhadra pledges to teach Parikshit as he taught his father and great-uncle, and then glances askance at the widow of his most famous pupil.
“We only found out this morning ourselves,” Dushala whispers back, “but it is true enough. Have you seen Vrishaketu?”
Yuyutsu gestures to Partha, leaning forward to chuck his grandson under the chin and then back to clasp the hand of his nephew, still smiling. “There is an awful symmetry to it.”
He’s theirs, and while Yuyutsu adores Yudhishtira and Dushala is trying to reconcile herself to the new shape of her life, they’re not entirely happy about Karna’s last son with the Pandavas. Vrishali definitely absolutely hates it.
Dushala sighs. “He’ll be safe enough, whatever happens now. His mother was worrying.”
Bhanumati is just. really good at this sort of theatre.
Balabhadra takes his seat; Bhanumati steps out in front of the throne, and sinks to her knees in front of it, her hands clasped and head lowered, a suspicion of tears on her face. Panchali turns in her seat to dart a speaking glance at Sahadeva, and is answered with a minute shake of the head.
“I have a boon to ask of you, Majesty, but a boon in truth, and no favour in disguise. My time for granting favours has fled, and now I may only ask.”
“Ask,” Yudhisthira says, “and we will judge how it is to be granted.”
This is a very... measured show of both deference and vulnerability? idk.
“I would have you intercede with your Yadava kin, Majesty.”
“The Yadavas are before your eyes,” Balabhadra calls. “What need have you of intercession, if you crave of us a boon that is just?”
“My lord is gracious,” Bhanumati says, and bows again.
They know the crap Lakshmana goes through, IJS.
“If it is to do with Lakshmana,” Pradyumna essays, “we think of her as a sister.”
Prince Bhanu nods assent, and Princess Satyabhama adds, “She has been a daughter to me these eight years; I must know what worries her mother.”
“It is a balm to my heart that my daughter has found other mothers, and siblings, especially now that her own are dead, yet I fear in speaking out I might deprive her of such shelter as she has, and remain unable to provide her with any other.”
Sahadeva KNOWS. Sahadeva knows everything, because he cannibalised his father at approx ten years old.
“Speak,” Sahadeva says, “and let not your courage fail you.”
“It touches upon the honour of my lord Krishna,” Bhanumati answers, “is it strange that fear grips my heart?”
Running joke of everyone insulting Krishna, including his family because that will never stop being hilarious to me.
His wives laugh, and Princess Rukmini says, “I promise you we have heard every possible insult to his high honour. Do not keep us waiting.”
“The day before Prince Parikshit’s coronation, Princess Prabhavati received a letter from Dwaraka, and shared its contents with my daughter, who has since taken to her bed, turning a deaf ear to any attempts to rouse her. I have heard since that you will soon return to Dwaraka and would beg the favour of keeping Lakshmana with me while she grieves.”
I... don’t know what I think about Jambavati, actually? I hate doing the bad son = bad mother thing, and I consciously stayed away from that here, but certainly of Krishna’s three Mahabharata wives, Satyabhama likes Lakshmana most and Jambavati least.
“What does your daughter grieve, that she must heal here among the Kurus?” Princess Jambavati leans forward in her seat, her face a grim mask. “We have given her time enough to grieve her father.”
“Who can know how long grief lives in the heart? My mother died a dozen years ago and still on dewy mornings I hear her voice in birdsong and I weep,” Bhanumati parries. “But Lakshmana grieves not the loss of her father’s life, but her husband’s love.”
Pradyumna also knows, but that’s because his wife got the letter and then woke him up at the crack of dawn to figure out how to deal with this.
It is possible to see when Prince Pradyumna pales, how closely he resembles his mother, their faces set together as they whisper.
So. uh. A lot of people abduct princesses (or get abducted by them) canonically. (Satyaki’s ancestor abducts Devaki for Vasudeva, e.g.) So Samba’s abduction of Lakshmana isn’t entirely beyond the pale, especially since Balarama endorsed it, but it’s not something the rest of them approve of, Satyaki least of all. Samba is Krishna’s dark mirror.
“He once did great deeds to gain her,” Satyaki drawls, “has he now forsaken her, when she needs him most?”
This is canonical-ish, btw. Samba’s a nightmare.
“That his heart strays to another while she is grief-struck is loss any woman may have to bear, and if it was only that I would not beg to keep her with me. The women of the Yadavas are as brave as they are beautiful, and my daughter, however lovely she may have been when Prince Samba’s eyes first rested on her, cannot compare, as no mortal woman may with an apsara. But that he trifles with one of Lord Krishna’s wives causes her grief from which I cannot shake her in so little time, nor can I hope for her health if in Dwaraka, when the very news of his love has so shaken her.”
Yup, the queen is a predator, it’s fabulous.
Jambavati growls, a low noise that travels spines and climbs blood. “Have you any proof of this?”
“Only what Princess Prabhavati told Lakshmana and Lakshmana told me; for truth you must ask the princess. I beg you, let me keep my daughter with me, that she might heal from her grief among those whose greatest care is for her.”
A lot of the story is to do with dealing with being middle-aged and growing into your parents without necessarily either repeating their mistakes or slipping back into the routines of your youth. idk if that came through? But this is one of those moments of mis/recognition for Yuyutsu.
She stays on her knees with hands folded together and eyes lowered, as Pradyumna and Prabhavati murmur confirmation to Princess Rukmini, the picture of serene determination. Here is one, Yuyutsu thinks of a sudden, who is a pupil, not of Shakuni but of Queen Gandhari, and makes of unflinching truth her greatest weapon.
This is the second sentence I wrote for this story. It was always going to be about surviving war and how contingent the fate of women is on the whims of their menfolk. The work was in trying to get them from the opening sentence to this.
The whispers thronging the hall stifle and still, and Dushala’s grip on his hand grows painful, and finally Krishna rises, and raises Bhanumati to her feet, and puts his lotus-pink palm on her forehead, and says, “Tathastu.”

Taste Buds of Bengali Saints : Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansadeb 🌺 #shriramakrishna lived over 50. While at #dakshineswar , the temple officials regularly sent his allotted breakfast, lunch, and supper. For breakfast he had a little #butter and #rockcandy from the Krishna temple and #fruits and #sweets from the #kalitemple . When the Master first came to Dakshineswar, he cooked his own food on the bank of the #ganges , and Hriday (nephew) helped him. Later he started taking Kali's cooked #prasad . The Master's supper was very simple. He ate a few pieces of #luchi (fried bread) and a little farina #pudding that had been offered to the Divine Mother at night. Ramkrishna Paramahansa was very fond of #sandesh and #jalebi #ranirashmoni always ordered two maunds of Bhim Nag-er sandesh on her way to Ma #bhabatarini Mandir. One for Ma Bhabatarini and the other for Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa. He enjoyed them and distributed the sweets among his disciples equally, saving just a few extra for his favorite disciple, Naren (Swami Vivekananda). Ramakrishna loved all foods, not just sweets. Perhaps he experienced the divine through his sense of taste. Not strange. As food went past his taste buds and entered his stomach a sense of joy radiated and filled his entire body. Sometimes he would walk out of a gathering of disciples, run to the kitchen, smell or taste what was ready and dart back. His wife, Ma Sarada, at times felt embarrassed wondering what people would think. But Ramakrishna was oblivious, for he knew that some mysterious power was in control and he was doing its bidding. He never talked about his weakness for food because he said he did not wish to attract a following of gluttons. Ramakrishna enjoyed food all his life, experienced great joy, and kept quiet about it. His followers reverently ignored his weakness. https://www.instagram.com/p/B3EQQvNFbw7/?igshid=7a84jabf1iio

He even stays in his stroller even when he's too old for it. Hikaru dislikes loud and painful noises such as crowds, Buddhist chanting, and babies crying. Arjun's pain
Arjun is a character who can be considered the hero of the Mahabharata. He is the 3rd Pandava, yet his line continues to rule over Hastinapur. As a person, Arjun is someone who has lost a lot, when you go down the line.
He is not just naturally gifted, but he strives to be the best, or more accurately, do his best. He is everyone's favorite, reasonably so. But his personal life is marred with tragedies.
He lost his father at a very young age, as well as his step mother Madri. Since Arjun grew in her presence, I am assuming that she and he must have been close. After this, when they arrive in Hastinapur, Arjun got attached to Bhishma, and later on, Drona, his guru.
Drona did not favor Arjun, or grant him special skills, this is a misconception. He would be giving extra lessons to Ashwatthama, and Arjun would finish off his tasks early and attend these special lessons as well.
There is a story how Drona gave Arjun a pot with a hole, and Ashwatthama a pot with a wider mouth, so that Ashwatthama could fill water more quickly and arrive back earlier, but Arjun would use Varunastra and return at the same time. There are various instances on how Arjun saved Drona, and received a divyastra in return. He was clearly the best of all his students.
Events like Bhima being poisoned and Lakshagriha must have hurt the Pandavas, who probably did not expect their cousins to take their rivalry to this extent. Arjun spent 12 years in self imposed exile, and some years after he returned, they had to go to exile once again.
The war was something that damaged Arjun greatly, as he lost almost everyone dear to him. Bhishma and Drona, who he respected and loved a lot, died in front of him. Many of their allies were his friends as well, and seeing them die must have hurt him. His sons Iravan and Shrutakarma, as well as his nephews, the rest of the Upapandavas and Ghatotkacha perished in the war as well.
The biggest blow, however, for Arjun, was Abhimanyu's death. Abhimanyu was Arjun's favorite son, clearly. Arjun absolutely adored that boy, and he wouldn't have expected his death. Arjun had made sure that Abhimanyu stayed nearby, on all the other days of the war. He went an extra mile to ensure his protection.
The motive of the Kauravas in forming the chakravyuha was to capture Yudhishthira, not kill Abhimanyu, however Drona said that he would surely kill one of the Pandava Maharathis that day. Arjun was specifically driven away, and Abhimanyu entered the chakravyuha formed by 11 akshauhinis, all alone. It was a magnificent feat, and a death trap. Abhimanyupur, in present day Haryana, is a town where the chakravyuha was formed, so you can see how big it must have been.
Abhimanyu was in a very bad shape by the time he was dead. Arjun fainted after hearing about his death. He was angry at Jayadratha, but it is beyond my comprehension why he was not angry at Drona, Ashwatthama, Kripa, who were people he respected. These people were more responsible than Jayadratha for Abhimanyu's death, and yet Arjun is respecting them, idk how-
Arjun performed a marvelous feat in anger, he wiped out 7 akshauhinis of the Kaurava army without a divine weapon within a time span of 12 hours, and killed Jayadratha.
Arjun lost a lot in life, and by the time his end was near, he had lost someone even more dearer to him, Krishna.
Arjun spent most of his life in the forest. He sacrificed and lost a lot, yet he is termed as someone who got everything because he was supported by Krishna. If there is someone in the Mahabharata who deserves rightful recognition, then it is him.

Krishna and Arjuna for the Colors of the rainbow meme? Sorry for spamming your ask box...
(Never apologize! i love getting prompts!)
seeing red
“Have you forgotten your oath,” Krishna roars from the driver’s seat, “to see your Grandsire fall on this day?”
Arjuna wants to protest–Krishna knows, where no one else does, of his doubts and indecision–and this seems unduly cruel; and his friend might be bent on victory, but never so bloodthirsty.
But he looks around him at the nameless dead, targets of Bhishma’s arrows, unmourned and unnoticed by anyone but his charioteer, and suddenly he understands something of Krishna’s rage.
yellow press
“A word of advice,” the King of Gandhara hisses, “cousin of my nephew. The cowherd prince of Dwaraka is a dangerous friend to make: far better you and your brother make better allies.”
Arjuna stiffens with rage, and does not dare reply; Shakuni, his one merciful impulse towards Pandu’s brats rejected, slinks back into the darkness.
greenhorn
Chitrasena might win fame as Arjuna’s dance teacher, but he was not privy to Arjuna’s first faltering attempts.
“Remind me, Partha,” says Krishna with commendable composure, “why persist and torturing yourself so?”
Arjuna glares at him from the tangle of limbs he’s fallen into after his latest attempt at a spin and does not, for the thousandth time, explain how important it is that a master archer develop dexterity.
blue moon
“On nights like this,” Krishna says wistfully, “we would dance.”
He speaks of memories Arjuna cannot share; it ought not to feel so bitter.
Instead he only places his hand on Krishna’s shoulder to share, at least, what measure of sympathy he can.
black sheep
Arjuna’s cousins are royals, proud of their lineages, their path to the throne unmarred by scandal – save, that is, the man who is best beloved of all of them.
“I do so enjoy,” Krishna assures him, with a hint of irony, “being the black sheep of the family.”
white lie
“Will they speak of us, in the eras to come?” Arjuna asks during one of the bad nights after Kurukshetra, long and dark and difficult.
“Yes,” says Krishna, the one comfort he can offer.
“Will they understand why we had to do what we did? Will they forgive us our sins?”
A pause; and slowly Krishna nods into the silence.

Why Should You Buy Gopal and His Dress Online
Janmashtami is knocking at the door. So, the pious Hindus and Krishna lovers will celebrate his birthday with great joy and enthusiasm. The love of Krishnan is divided into basic two segments. One is his little phase, and the other is his grown-up phase. The grown-up Krishna is the Lord to the people of the world, and the little phase (laddu Gopal) is the face of the son of all loving women.
He is the foster child of Gokul and grew up in the lap of King Nanda and Yashoda. His original parents were Basudev and Deboki. The little Krishna was the incarnation of the prime Vishnu. So, he also has the charming power and power to cope with all adverse situations in life. On the other hand, he was reared on the lap of all women of Gokul. So, they used to think of him as the son of their family. He was so cute and charming that nobody can stay without falling in love with the little Krishna. All lovers of laddu Gopal along with the women of Gokul like to have a beautiful laddu Gopal in the base of the praying mandir of their little temple of home.
The life of his little age
The life of the little Krishna was full of charming cuteness as well as a lot of perils too. He would like to enjoy Noni (milk cream) and used to steal it from the mothers of all houses of Gokul. He used to call the little friends of his age and arrange to bring down the clay pot raised upwards at home at the poles of the thatched house. Sometimes, he would spoil the Noni all around.
Story of Stealing Noni, the Milk Cream
Once, he does the same job with his friends. The mothers of Gokul complained to his mother that he had stolen the milk cream and spoilt it all around. He has distributed it to his friends as well.
He was called by his mother and asked to display his mouth whether any mark is present there. Little Krishna told her that he has stolen mothering from the mothers of Gokul. This lovely and affectionate mother knew that he has stolen it. But, he is telling a lie. He is a lord but telling a lie! It is a great matter of understanding Lila with some deeper meaning. Mother opened his mouth by force and saw what the world is moving around in his small mouth. It is the great auspicious thing that nobody can watch in his life. The mother could not enjoy the eternal power of little Krishna if she did not open his mouth.
Probably, you have received the answer to why he has told a lie as a part of eternal power. In this way, he made a fan base for the entire Gokul. His charming power and captivating behaviour enabled him to reach into the mind of all women in the Gokul. The life of his little age was loved by the people of the entire world.
Every woman in the world who believes in lord Krishna and his advice love to have such a cute, lovely and naughty boy at home. With this belief, they keep the bronze idol of little Krishna at home in the room of prayer and establish the idol to worship. Things I learned while re-watching Star Plus Mahabharata (Part 2/many):
Shakuni is basically Jaime Lannister minus the incestuous love for his sister.
Dhritarashtra has…a lot of issues.
Nearly all the couples are poorly matched, in the sense that the women are settlers and the men are reachers. Unfortunately, because of the garbage patriarchy in this country, these over-qualified women were forced to settle for these lame men while society told them that these useless men were doing them a huge favour by marrying them.
I know that Shakuni and Gandhari’s fuck-you to the Kurus ultimately cost everyone everything but it’s hard for me to not side with them on this. Also, get you a brother like Shakuni who will smash the patriarchy for you.
How old is Kripacharya??
If I hear ‘swAYam viCHAR kiJIYe’ one more time…
No prizes for guessing which nephew is Bhishma’s favourite. Hint: it’s not douchebag nor is it pretty boi.
Vidur appears to be a little bitch (and an ableist prick) but he must have had some redeemable qualities because everyone seems to love him.
Also, Dhritarashtra comparing his fate to Ram’s is a bit much.
Shakuni is dramatic af but on every level, I just get him.
Surya is so full of himself. Hmm, kind of like every father that ever walked out on his unborn child.
Karna is basically our Moses.
Karna is also an enthu cutlet.
Pandu is such a pretty boi, I love him, and I could look at him all day. Also, he is literally Mr Peanutbutter if Mr Peanutbutter was a human.
Pandu is a sweetheart and did not deserve all the terrible things that happened to him. I am only going to partially blame his nephew, Krishna, for those things (this is because I blame everything that happened in the Mahabharata on Krishna).
Also, people have been underestimating the Yadavs since the time of Kuntibhoj and Kunti and lmao do it at your own peril suckers.
Kunti is actual queen material. What wasted potential. This is what happens when you marry a pretty face and nothing else.
Satyavati has so many regrets. I hope she realises that (after Krishna) she is to blame for everything happening to this cursed throne.
Ah, the Rajasuya Yagna, or as I like to call it, the root of all evil.
So Duryodhana was completely legitimately the heir to this throne. This war feels avoidable. Oh, wait. Krishna has other plans.
“Santan toh prem ka fal hain, prem ka karan nahin”. Awww Pandu, I take back everything I said about you. Your jaundiced heart is made of gold!
That little lion king moment with baby Yudhisthir.
