A lot of criminals from the 20s and 30s in America entered the folklore of the country, but it still baffled me how many times i've seen the story of Ma Barker influence media. I've seen it at least twice, both times in the 60s and 70s. Batman 1966 had a villian modelled after her (Ma Parker as played by Shelley Winters), and the european disco group Boney M had a song loosely based on her in the form of Ma Baker. I want to say there was a lot more inspiration on media from Ma Barker, but my mind is not thinking of it as clearly right now.
But I suppose it makes sense it entered the folklore and public consciousness. A mother who led her kids on a crime wave across the Midwestern US? That's pretty interesting. Whether it's all true or not, I can't say. But the idea of it all? I see why it fascinated people. A family crime empire, and all led by one older woman. It was probably revolutionary as a story for 20th century america. It's like... it's the same way we still know of people like Al Capone or Billy the Kid or Jesse James. They were real people, but the myth becomes more powerful than the truth. And that is always fascinating.

Sunrise, Parabellum.
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#'Good morning. Prepare for war'.#At a glance it may seem like my interest in crossing over Disco Elysium and MDZS is based on the surface parallels.#Protagonists with a bad reputation who find themselves waking up in an unknown location?#The alcoholism? The murder mystery? The stoic and yet deeply patient companion?#Easily tied together. A crossover that writes itself.#But that is not what inspires me to draw parellels between these two stories.#It is about the places at the edge of the world riddled with bomb craters and bullet holes - to serve as a reminder of a lost war.#It is about a dream that was worth fighting for being crushed by larger powers who feared losing that power.#They wanted to build something beautiful and hopeful. It almost was. They lined them up in front of the firing line.#Nearly all the dreamers are gone. Yet the dream lives. Small and patient. It was a worthy dream to live and die for.#And it will wait; thousands of nights and thousands of sunrises.#The bombs may rain down at night but there will always be a sunrise tomorrow. You lived. Keep fighting.#Light your match and set the message ablaze: Un jour je serai de retour près de toi.#For the dead and departed who believed in it. For those we loved and lost. For the future we hoped for.#One day; I will return to your side.#Anyways. I am once again begging you to play Disco Elysium. Especially if you’re a MDZS fan.#They are stories that have something to say about the value of small kindnesses in big sacrifices.#And about hope at the very end of the world.#(EDIT: I thought this flopped hard but I scheduled it way too far in advance. Oops! Midnight Parabellum it is!)

forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.
#or just the moral dilemmas#rewatching amc interview is kind of making me insane#that moment in episode two when louis is looking for a sort of assurance in the fact that lestat may actually have some good in him#look at how he cares about music look at the simple wondrous things that can bring him joy#and then the immediate dread when the opera performance turns out to be imperfect because he knows how lestat will react to *that*#I think there’s also something really interesting in the highlighting of lestat upbraids the less skilled singer before killing him#(slowly)#but also I will wait to watch more before I articulate my thoughts#vampires#interview with the vampire#amc interview with the vampire#I do still find the lestat and claudia film and novel dynamic by far the most compelling for how she tries to usurp him but almost to be him#but I’m enjoying this#I’m very curious if I will like show claudia more on rewatch#the movie always resonated most with me (sue me lol) because there seemed to be more simultaneous fondness and attachment even at the end#dark stories of the north

it's immensely funny to me how andrew lloyd webber read this passage from the book and was like yeah the journey down to the phantom's lair is this really breathtaking magical gondola ride where christine is just captivated by the strange and fantastical beauty of it all (see below)
when in the novel they're both like in a rowboat in the dark with christine scared out of her mind and confused as hell while erik is paddling like he's out for an extreme day of fishing and just staring christine down for the entire duration of the journey without blinking once . like mind you his eyes quite literally GLOW in the DARK and he's just fucking staring into her soul and silently rowing and probably not even breathing like
#AND IT'S SOMEHOW STILL HOT#i always forget that by this point in the book there's no “i am your angel of music / come to me angel of music” like in the musical#like she has no idea who this mf kidnapping her is and when she says “who are you where is the voice” he's just like 🙄#and when she DOES find out that *he's* the voice and he's been pretending to be an angel sent by her dead father for 3 months#it's when he's just set her down in his sitting room that's filled with a bunch of stupid pretentious flowers#and he's like “don't be afraid you're in no danger” despite the fact that she's been taken FIVE STORIES BENEATH THE OPERA against her will#by the guy who's been manipulating and lying to her through the goddamn walls#ohhhhhhhh and then fans have the audacity to get mad at christine for trying to snatch his mask like THIS MF ABDUCTED HER????#(still love him though <3)#(his morals are questionable but so is my interest in men😍)#phantom of the opera#poto#poto shitpost

i might be thinking too much about this rather irrelevant background story for the ancient queen and ganondorf (.. yes still botw2/totk rewrite ................ its background stuff you dont get to see, it would just be a line in a hidden diary and some environtmental story telling- that bracelet being in his room- wrote a longer text post about it today but uh .. heres a doodle that took me too long to make bndksbnsd)
#ganondoodles#art#zelda#doodle#ganondorf#ganondoodles rewrites totk#botw2#i hope using that tag is fine#i dont even know if im gonna give this rewrite an actual name#though i did think about leaving it the same but the 'tears' being tears as in ripped apart#but how would i make that clear in written form lol#any YES i am thinking too much about tiny background details that are optional to find#i like the idea of having both quests for lore enthusiasts and those that only care about gameplay#and yes my pattern of pairings is showing .........#the only thing i like about rauru was the possible ship with ganondorf bc it made the 'story' mildly more interesting#and i didnt change that to not make it gay (hello? who am i??)#but bc 1. i wanted to give the sonia figure (here ancient zelda) the main part 2. .. she is the one with sealing powers#the colors always look better on my tablet but i think its calibrated right- i did somethign with my desktop screen once though#so im hoping it looks normal for everyone else#anyway- goodnight (1am gang lets goooo)

I started writing yet another tag essay in the notes of a different post where OP posited that the reason established relationships that are rock solid or functional are hard to write and find in fiction because there's missing tension due to the lack of will they won't they, and how one way to solve this in a story is to make the characters insane about each other. (The post is here.)
And don't get me wrong! I like when characters are a little or a lot unhinged about each other! and I also like relationships that self destruct, tragedies that end badly, and all that jazz I enjoy these things a lot! They're good things!
But I'm thinking about relationship tension again and how like, okay yes sometimes we want our characters confess they're in love with each other and get together and sail off into a soft epilogue, etc. This too is love!
But I think fundamentally to deny the fact that two (or more) people can love each other deeply, be totally committed to each other, and yet still have difficulties and life problems to tackle together is an underexplored facet of romance. The mundane of this is where the real romance lies on our day to day as people, and I find this so...rarely? tackled in fiction?
Maybe this is because I'm ace, but I feel that there's a distinct? vibe to these sorts of mature and enduring romances where like, the love is there, the commitment is there, but we still have moments we need to work for it because that's life and we work for it because we find each other worth it.
What is more romantic than compromise with someone you care for deeply? What is more romantic than tackling problems together and trying to come to an agreement and sometimes not being able to but still having done your best and accepted the outcome anyway?
What is a long lasting relationship that isn't about give and take and growing together or coming apart? Aren't those stories interesting? How could any long lasting relationship where people are deeply in love with each other be boring when like, to BE in a relationship with someone for ten, twenty, thirty, sixty years and come out the other side of that saying 'you're the one, you're still the one, you've always been the one' is one of the most wild and rare type of relationships to have?
What sort of sacrifice and compromise and work it takes to build that sort of relationship, isn't that interesting? To persist despite moments of doubt and periods of despair and all the work it takes in mundanity? all the trials a relationship like that has to survive and has survived, isn't that still tension? isn't that still interesting?
Maybe it's just me that I find this more interesting than "will they? won't they?" Either they will or they won't but when I'm reading a romance they mostly will! But do they have what it takes to stay there? And if they do isn't that one of the most interesting things in the world to look at?
Isn't that also love?
#writing#idk I just think maybe we should have more of these types of stories#I find mundanity interesting#maybe it's just because my parents met each other at 18 and 19 respectively#and have since moved across the world#had three children#multiple medical scares#and made so many sacrifices and their life stories are SO interesting#and yet they've come out the other side each day still being like#'you're the one and you've always been'#that makes me feel like these sorts of love stories are perhaps one of the wildest types of romances that we could ever have#and I'd love to see it more in fiction

I would love to see your headcanons of how Darry would prank Pony. How he would be a little shit in his own eldest-brother way.
oh my god hello love!! ok i think about these two CONSTANTLY I have a handful!!!
ok one I think as a small day to day mischief Darry LOVES to wake Pony up by grabbin' him by the ankles 'n just YANKIN' Darry's always the first one up of the three of them most days 'n he never ever stops thinkin' its funny to wake Pony up in the most jarrin' way possible
I know I've talked about this somewhere else but Darry also adores just lyin' for the fun of it. Pony'll ask him what the weathers supposed to be like or how somethin' works or any of the other million things he's always pesterin' Darry about 'n if he doesn't know (or half the time even when he DOES) he's just makin' that shit up. Pony CONSTANTLY has to fact-check him but most times when he asks Soda he doubles down on the lie (a decent amount of the time Pony believes a complete n utter lie for MONTHS until he mentions it to someone else 'n they're like huh? what are u talkin' about that's not true Pony goes home FUMIN')
Darry will just pick Pony's ass up. Not movin' fast enough? picked up. gettin' in the way? picked up. sittin' where Darry wants to? picked up. not necessarily a prank but for sure an older brother mannerism that makes Pony fuckin' CRAZY he is always THRASHIN' 'n WAILIN'
He'll randomly shout Pony's full legal name for no reason at all i.e. "PONYBOY MICHAEL CURTIS" 'n Pony feels all the blood drain outta his face 'n he BOOKS it over 'n Darry's like "do u want casserole for dinner?" Pony's standin' there huffin' 'n puffin' RED in the face
Sometimes when Pony's headin' out to do somethin' Darry already told him he could Darry loves to pull the "WHERE do you think ur goin'?" 'n when Pony's like "the movies? you said I could?" Darry's like "mmmm no I don't think I said you could do that" Pony's losin' his mind "yeah you DID" Darry's got a hand on his chin cartoonishly like "mmm not ringin' a bell I don't think so"
When someone's tryin' to make plans with Darry 'n he does NOT wanna go he'll be like sorry :( can't leave the kid alone shucks man yeah well what are you gonna do? yeah I know he's fourteen but last time I did that I came home to four empty vodka bottles. Huh? Oh naw he didn't drink 'em. Do you know what a Molotov cocktail is? He STAYS lyin' on Pony's name
Oh he loves to pull the "oh jesus Pony did you forget?" "forget what?" "holy fuck Pony you really did, didn't you?" "forget WHAT? the dishes? the laundry? what?" "jesus Pone AGAIN?" "WHAT??" oh he TORMENTS him
when Darry's runnin' late (exceedingly rare but still) he blames it on Pony EVERY time somehow it is always that kids fault he's runnin' behind
#AGH#these are just a few#in the interest of not havin a post thats like thirty bullets long#WAGH#i love thinkin about these boys#yeah maybe darrys his guardian now#but he will always in some ways just be his older brother#EEE#TY FOR THE ASK#feel free to request hcs any time yall#theyre so fun#n garenteed I always have like a goddamn million of them#i am always like squeezin them into stories#offhandedly#but i have so many i couldnt find a place for#so they just live in my head#WAGHH#this was so fun#ALSO I ADORE UR BLOG#i was SO hyped to get this ask EEE#the outsiders#ponyboy curtis#darry curtis

Okay hear me out. Imagine a story where a scientist is leading a tour of kids through his lab, showing off all the inventions that will hopefully one day help humanity! In this tour is his son, who is very excited to be with his dad at his job, while also technically going to school? Win Win!! His dad has been a bit overprotective of him, but he sort of enjoys the attention. Although he isn’t too keen on his classmates who bully (perhaps one of the bullies is his brother or something) him for it, still poking and teasing him during the tour.
After awhile the dad shows off a portal machine which can open a portal to a whole new world, or at least that’s what they think it leads to anyway. The lab hasn’t fully tested it and is making a robot to send in first. The kids all ask if they can see it and the science team agrees as long as no one goes over the rails towards the portal, cause it seems to have a suction. (You can see where this is going I bet) The science team flips on the machine and the portal lights up, and while everyone is distracted the bully decides to have some fun, whispering into the Scientist kid’s ear something like “Maybe you’ll see your mom over there” or “Perhaps I should just take out trash like you. You’re just wasting dad’s time anyway” before the kid can really process what happens he is pushed over the rail into the portal, disappearing. The machine shuts off with a clunk and the dad is pissed. He is shouting at the bully about how stupid that was and how they have no idea if it’s even life sustainable on the other side! A guard nearby says that the kid is in real serious trouble for so many reasons, only for the dad to chime in that the bully better hope his kid is alive cause if he isn’t, he’ll get a murder charge. The bully explains he didn’t mean to only for most of the class saying that the bully always does this and one student even repeats what he said before he pushed the kid in. They decide to end the tour early and send everyone home, while the bully is escorted out by the guards and won’t be going home soon.
The science team asks what they’re gonna do and the dad says they’re gonna make something. Perhaps a suit or vehicle so that he can go into the portal and find his son. The team nods and quickly gets to work, they know it’ll take more than a few weeks, but maybe if they are lucky the kid will be okay, and maybe they can get it done faster.
Meanwhile, the kid flies through the portal and lands on a soft ground. Panicking he sits up and looks around, only to notice he’s on a huge bed. The portal sent him to a world that was way bigger than his own. Fear strikes him as he realizes where there is a big bed, there’s a big person. He’s right when he looks over across the room and sees a huge person sitting at a desk mumbling to themself. He’s frozen in fear and can’t move, even when the person swings around from their chair and walks over to their bed only to pause and stare at him.
The giant just stared at him, confused as to why there is a tiny child in their bed. They swear they didn’t put them there and are about to say something when the kid just burst out crying and the giant panicked. They quickly kneel by their bed and try to hush the child and tell them that it’s okay. The child keeps sobbing and soft hiccups can be heard, but eventually the kid quiets down a bit. The giant carefully asks how the kid got there, and the boy answers between sobs. The giant listens and the boy eventually bursts into tears again, crying out that they want their dad. The giant gently scoops them up, and holds them close saying “hey, hey, it’s going to be alright. You said your dad was a scientist…sooo he must have seen you get pushed in. I bet he’s trying to get back to you, he just has to figure out how to.” The kid sniffles and asks if the giant really believes that and they nod. They then reassure the kid that they won’t hurt them and that they’ll watch and care for them, until their dad comes to save them. The boy nods and the giant pauses and asks if he likes movies. The boy says yes and that he likes action like movies. The giant then decides that maybe they could watch a movie, to help the boy calm down, they’ll even let the kid choose the movie. He gets a little excited over this and the two of them go and do exactly that. Through this we learn that the worlds are almost identical, but some things are changed like Superman is Aceman, and Ice Cream is Frost Gel. All still the same thing, just named differently, which both the giant and boy find amusing.
The boy stays with the giant for little over a week, getting used to the large surroundings and the movements of the giant. The giant provides a small house to the boy, made of a box and Legos, which the boy had fun playing with and designing that part of the little home. In the other world the dad and his team finally finished the suit. It was built to survive space, acid, lava, and other possibilities. It had a backpack built into the back that held food rations, weapons, tools, and other things for survival. There was also the case, which contained all the parts for a small return portal back home. Which had been tested multiple times….just not cross dimensionally. The suit also had a built in camera that would send live video feed back to the team while the dad, who wanted to be the one who went through, was over there looking for his son. He’d also do some science stuff, like take samples and explore a bit.
The day finally arrives and the dad walks through the portal. He finds himself behind a large plush wall, and he starts to walk around it when he hears booming voices. Meanwhile the giant is laying in bed scrolling through their phone. The kid is sleeping in their little house for a quick nap. Then out of the corner of their eye they see something move out from behind their pillow. The dad looks up and catches the giant’s eye glancing at him. He freezes, and then grabs a weapon from the bag. This causes the giant to freak out and quickly flop out of their bed and onto the floor. The dad runs over and, using the mic in his suit, shouts “WHERE IS HE?!?!?” The giant, confused as hell, asks that the “crazy living action figure dude” please put down the weapon, while also asking what he means. The dad just shouts “IF YOU DID ANYTHING TO HIM I SWEAR I’LL..” the threat falls from his lips as the giant rises above him and cautiously walks over to the little house. They open the top and reach in, carefully waking the boy up and whispering that they have a surprise. The dad, still in a fighting stance, watches as the giant approaches with something in their hands. He’s about to fight, when the giant opens their hands and reveals his son, causing him to freeze. The boy pauses, not recognizing him cause of the suit, but once the dad rips the helmet off, the kid jumps off the giants hand and rushes to embrace his dad.
Both the kid and the dad just tightly hold onto each other as the giant just smiles softly, watching them. They then comment how much of a strong and loving dad the kid has and how the dad has such a brave and smart son. They both look up at the giant, who gives them a sweet smile. The dad explains they can go back home and the son is excited to tell his dad everything he learned about the place. The giant asks if there is anything they can do to help, which the dad asks if there is a safe place to setup a portal device somewhere that isn’t, well, a bed. The giant nods, and offers their hand to the pair. The son quickly hops on and the dad, carefully steps on after a bit of encouragement from his son. The giant takes them to their desk and says they can set it up in the free space near the wall.
After some time the portal is up and running and the dad has some samples, including a hair from the giant, and the small pair is ready to go home. The giant remarks that they’ll probably be seeing more of the tiny people, but says that they are welcome to visit. The boy hugs the giants hand and thanks them for taking care of them. The dad also thanks them for watching over his son, and says that he’s glad that the giant was the one to find his son. They take their leave and the story comes out in their world about what happens. The bully is still charged for some things, mostly messing with official government science stuff, but everything seems fine in the end. Plus the boy made an amazing friend, and the dad found someone he can trust to watch his son.
Anyway, basically what if a portal led to a giant world similar to our own, but it was discovered because some kids decided to mess with a kid. Resulting in the kid getting lost in that world, having to wait to be found or find a way back themself?
#g/t#gt#gianttiny#giant/tiny#giant tiny#g/t idea#g/t ideas#g/t thoughts#g/t thought#g/t story idea#I think it would be interesting to find a whole new world filled with giants#although if I found a tiny crying child in my bed I’d probably freak out#I’d have to calm them down and try and figure out how they got here and whether or not they were always tiny#it would be 100% worse if they happened to be from the same universe and the portal just shrunk them and sent them somewhere random#especially if you see the missing posters and think ‘wait I have them…how am I gonna explain their size?!?!?’#but if they’re from another world it’s more ‘oh okay. just smaller universe..okay okay…let’s figure out dimension travel then…I guess!!!’#either way I’d comfort them and definitely help or try and help them get back home#I’d just make sure that they were okay and watch over them…go all mama bear mode I guess haha#also sorry this got long and is basically a short story written shorter…a shrunken story hehehe

I think Hyunwoo’s a very nicely fleshed character out for how little we know about him, his sense of “righteousness” (and straightforwardness) is the first thing we learn about his character, and interestingly enough, it explains some of his perspective leading up to his death... Before HyunA and Hyunwoo met Luka it was just him and HyunA, Hyunwoo cared for Luka when they met, obviously didn't dislike him, but having to reconcile with sharing HyunA's attention and presence between them (with his own frustration and jealousy and Luka's possessiveness over her) it was only "just" of him to get upset because Luka couldn't act appropriately, on both of their ends, they lashed out because they were children and couldn't handle their emotions maturely. Childishness and such can’t be helped (especially) in these circumstances, but it’s so typical that one of the main instigators in this string of events leading up to Hyunwoo's death was inevitably jealousy and childish conflicts (so typical of a sibling it is just terrible that I can imagine how this would've been better dealt with had they been in a better circumstance it makes me feel really bad for their situation when I see HyunA's face in all-in, how much that changed her entire perception after so long ) (eughhh)

#that one patreon post confirmed a lot of sentiments between the hyunwoo and luka that i had suspected before#it feels good cause i always imagined their dynamic in a more simplified manner like “three's a crowd.” even if that's not exactly the case#the jealousy and tension came up ultimately because they couldnt find a healthy balance#alien stage#alnst#alien stage luka#alien stage hyuna#alien stage hyunwoo#i think the reason their story around this time hits so hard for me is that its truly unfortunate#i know what its like to be jealous and to be spurned on by the moment out of anger and whatnot#its not like hyunwoo hated him at all really the way i see it... children are just like that#maybe its different for luka though i think he was massively indifferent or neutral to Hyunwoo and rather more attached to hyuna#im interested in seeing more of this from luka's perspective if we do#because of the way the events were drawn out

Truly, my sympathies to people watching IWTV and are getting tired/bored of different perspectives. I'm not bored or even remotely tired.
Interviews by their very nature are perspective based. The story has this specific framing. As did the first book. They added to it with Armand now being an active participant and Daniel being more seasoned at interviewing. I understand how Armand's very edited and hyperbolic take on events that Book Lestat describes in The Vampire Lestat rubs people the wrong way. I do think that one could argue the way Lestat writes his own autobiography is the objective truth (note Armand in his book does not contradict Lestat). However, sorry to say, there is never an objective truth. The truth is always subjective.
I was raised by a whole family of lawyers and if I learned anything is that you can spin things in any way, but an objective truth will never exist. Not in crime, not in person to person storytelling, not in fictional storytelling. Hell, viewers seeing the SAME show CANNOT come to a consensus. Why? Because we all put our thoughts, experiences, and feelings to it. That's all perspective.
We see Louis give Armand a kiss in bed. Some think aw domestic and cute. Some think Louis is deliberately withholding and rewarding Armand for good behaviour. Some saw the act they put on in E2 as some version of truth and domesticity and some think it's only an act. Some think Dreamstat is actual Lestat out there somewhere and some think it's Louis' conscience.
Yes, the narrative will confirm one thought or another on some things but not all of them. They're deliberately left up to interpretation. Something btw, Lestat urges the reader to do in TVL when he does not go into details about his time with Louis and Claudia. And part of that has to do with perspective.
We could have a straightforward narrative with no corrections and no perspectives. But would that be as interesting as seeing how minds that far exceed our own twist and bend and interpret events? Would it be as interesting as seeing a vampire who tells himself a story so that he can carry on living despite being miserable? Would it be as interesting as this vampire who tells himself a story get pushback on what he's saying by someone who notices errors and inconsistencies? Would it be an interview at all? Or would it be, as Daniel put it in the very first episode, "a fever dream told to an idiot."
If you want a straightforward non-challenging version of the story, the 1994 movie exists. It's not perfect and a lot of details are missing, but there's only one, unchallenged perspective to it. And even then...how many people didn't (want to) see the queerness in it?
TL;DR I get being frustrated or tired or bored by the way the show is trying to tell the story, but at least it's doing something a little different and not word for word.
#interview with the vampire#amc iwtv#it doesn't have to be everyone's cup of tea#i just find it really interesting that a bunch of people want a more basic form of storytelling#i don't agree with every choice made but they're doing something different and i appreciate it#and i don't mean different as in revolutionary#i mean different for this specific source#and even then#marius tells his own story#pandora tells hers#armand tells his#daniel tells a very specific part of his life to lestat#as does jesse#maharet tells us the origins of akasha and that's written down as fucking mental hearsay because lestat wasn't there when she told the stor#like i get that yeah it's lestat's story etc but there's other stories too and who tells them is always additionally fascinating#because i say tell their story but a lot is narrated to someone else#please don't flame me this is just my opinion#i know im probably in the minority

Is anyone ever curious about why the house that takashi's parents owned was never taken over by any youkai, even when it has been abandoned for years, when this series has given us plenty examples of youkai inhabiting a human's dwelling, whether there were still humans living there or not (and either because they like the house, or they just want to mess with humans)? I do wonder if this is relevant to the main plot in some way (like the natsume family name being a ward on its own, hence youkai naturally avoided takashi's parents' house as a result, or if someone had set up wards when the house was built that are still up and functioning to this date, in which case, the question is who would go to that length to protect the natsume family)?
#don't mind me! this has always been on the back of my mind ever since i binge-watched the anime... and i only remembered to type it now :o#i just find it interesting though. we've seen several stories about youkai inviting themselves into a person's home but somehow the old#and abandoned natsume house was the only exception among them? when it's been empty for maybe 10 years with no one looking after it daily?#i might be reaching though. with the packed lore in this three-chapter section there'd be no way for midorikawa to squeeze in another youkai#to haunt the house. or it might just be free from youkai just because. i just found it odd. especially with how youkai were introduced here#natsume yuujinchou#natsuyuu#natsume's book of friends#natsuyuu manga#natsume takashi#nyanko sensei

Hey friend! We tend to ship the same ships, so tell me about Buddie.
Omg! I am thrilled to get this question! First hey friend! We do like the same ships and I am a fan of your work, so it’s lovely to hear from you. So not to over do this but I have broken my answer (essay) up into three parts. The first is things to know before entering the buddie fandom, the second is who they are, and the third is why I like them. I tried to be as succinct as possible but I do suffer from too much love for them so bear with me. Also this is spoiler free.
What to know about buddie
Okay so the very first thing to know about buddie is that they are not canon. Yet. (A deal with the devil is scheduled for Wednesday night before the next episode airs on Thursday which is speculated to be THE episode. Jkjk) This is important to note because when I entered the fandom I had absolutely no clue. I thought they were a gay firefighting couple who were raising a special needs child together. I thought it was cute. I was confused and disappointed when I found out they were not in fact together. The second thing to know is buddie is unhinged about each other. Like watching this show I feel gaslit especially in the earlier seasons. Something would happen between them and I’d be wondering like is this normal behavior? I probably didn’t start shipping them until season 3 but did notice some crush type behavior early on. I also went into the show expecting to like them so. The third thing to know is there’s a shit ton of amazing fanfic and it’s constantly growing. Like I think when I started reading buddie fanfic again last March it was 8k lower than it is now. It’s insane how fast it’s growing. And lastly, shipping them is like entering a land of delusion because they’ve been a will they go canon since like season 4 and we’re on season 8. I initially got into them right before season 5 and I was so sure they’d go canon in season 5 and then they didn’t. So like there’s just a lot of delusion about whether or not it’s happening, which is fine but it’s good to know going in. That being said you don’t have to worry about a Veronica mars situation with them.
Who is buddie?
Okay so buddie or Evan “Buck” Buckley and Eddie Diaz are two firefighters on a show called 911 which also stars Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Peter Krause. All major reasons I came for the show. Buck is in the show from episode 1 and Eddie comes in season 2. The show is all about first responders and while it can be a tearjerker there’s also some really strange plot points and funny ones. Buck is basically introduced as a fuck boy a la Logan Echolls but without the rich and famous parents. Buck’s story can be summed up as a someone who is desperate to be loved. His parents, while not as bad as Logan’s, were not great parents and Buck has a lot of self esteem issues. In my opinion, Buck has been on a journey since season 1 to figure out how to love himself and be in a loving relationship where he’s not being used (mostly for sex.). And then there’s Eddie Diaz who comes in as a work partner for Buck thanks to their fire captain Bobby (Peter Krause). Eddie is an army medic with a son who is adorable and has cerebral palsy. He got married super young because he got his girlfriend pregnant. Now, his wife is estranged and not in the picture so Eddie is learning what it is to be a single parent. His son, Chris is the most important person in Eddie’s life and later on becomes the most important in Buck’s. Eddie’s journey can really be summed up as he’s always taking care of other people and his identity is tied up in his titles such as father, husband, soldier, firefighter without taking the time to actually know who he is. He’s always pushing his own needs aside and then they generally manifest in anger or mental health issues. He’s spent a lot of time addressing these issues and growing to better understand balancing his needs and accepting that it’s okay to be open. Eddie and Buck lean on each other constantly and the audience watches as their friendship grows and they become a family.
Why I like Buddie
So the top reason I like buddie is because I love how soft they are with each other. Both Buck and Eddie are pretty traditionally masculine men which is why it’s so refreshing to see them so open with each other. First and foremost they are best friends and they show up for each other again and again. There are so many scenes in which you can see the love they have for each other. And they are evenly matched too. Like they are partners in every sense of the word. And they have their own storylines outside of each other so the character isn’t a plot device to drive the other’s story. It’s a really refreshing take to see men have meaningful conversations and be vulnerable with each other without sacrificing who they are as characters or being labeled a certain way. I love Buck because he is so emotional and isn’t afraid to be that way while Eddie has been told for most of his life to suck it up and push it down. By watching Buck be so open, he’s able to feel like he has a safe place to be vulnerable. So I guess my favorite part of them is watching them be safe with each other.
I also love found family stories and this is like peak found family. They trust and rely on each other and again it’s amazing to see. I mean overall I’d say they don’t have any toxic traits in their relationship except probably codependency and Buck can be unhinged when he’s jealous, but unlike other ships I’ve enjoyed, they’re extremely healthy for one another. They bring out their best qualities. I also like that they are best friends and work partners. They do so many things together which the audience sees again and again. They match each others freak and it’s just really beautiful. And lastly, it’s a slow burn. Like incredibly slow like caramelizing onions slow so while you get a bunch of content you also have to wait it out.
I think I covered all of it. Highly recommend. The first season does feel like a completely different show but it’s all fun to watch. I’m not a procedural person but I enjoy 9-1-1. The writing isn’t like mind blowing but it’s definitely enjoyable. I tend to watch while crafting.
lol my essay is complete. Let me know if I didn’t cover anything or anyone else please add to this incredibly over the top answer to a simple question.
#buddie#I think I covered all of it#but it’s always hard to describe why I’m drawn to a ship#I just find the dynamic interesting and the story refreshing#but this show makes me feel delusional#all my own opinions#vmsteenbeans

"It's normal for siblings to fight" Okay well it's not normal to be extremely classist and look down on your sister for being non-conforming. Or to go to the woman who ordered the death of your pet to tell her about your father's plans, when he specifically warned you against doing so, because you want to marry the boy you saw attack your sister and her friend (contributing partially to said father's death and your sister being unable to escape on the ship he chartered). Or to think of your sibling as unsatisfactory in comparison to another when you believe her to be dead. I notice that none of the "Sansa and Arya are going to reunite and instantly have no issues" crowd ever acknowledge any of this, which makes it seem like they don't actually believe what they say about their relationship being normal and easily reconciled. People wanting them to have no issues simply because they're siblings is another example of how fandom likes to flatten complex characters and relationships. They get reduced to being bickering siblings when their conflict runs deeper than that. If the author is telling you that they have "deep issues" to work out [X], I don't understand being so adamant about ignoring said issues. I also get the sense it's about ignoring the capacity for a certain character to be flawed, but that isn't going to change the fact that her "slip of the tongue" is very likely to be revealed and a source of further conflict 🤷🏾♀️
#arya stark#sansa stark#house stark#asoiaf#also if it's so normal for siblings to fight then why are you guys losing your minds over us theorizing they won't get along??#the amount of condescending /that's just how siblings act/ takes I see 🙄#sorry I guess? that we read the book and don't just delete parts of the story because we find it convenient?#it's not even like takes about them being enemies is widespread the most I see is that they aren't instantly bffs when they reunite 😭#some people theorize they'll never be close but guess what? that's a completely fair and valid assumption based on their relationship!#personally I think they'll have a sweet reunion before the issues they have inevitably surface again because while they've been through#a lot they haven't fundamentally changed as people or the values they hold#and I think that's going to be very interesting to read about!#I can't figure out why people always take the most boring bland route for how things will play out#mostly because people seem to be unable to swallow the concept that Sansa is a flawed character who isn't perfectly sweet all the time#and the fact that their conflict is instigated by Sansa's classism#which is funny cause in the grand scheme of things her being mean to Arya is such a mild thing that opens the door to a ton of growth#never seen anybody but stansas equating her being a bully to her sister to her being evil/a villain#all we do is point out that it exists in the story...people in this fandom have no concept of nuance I stg 😭#anyways they're both complex characters and their conflict is interesting and I hope we get to see how it plays out#cause it's definitely going to be better then that trash d&d came up with 🙏🏾

biggest downside of not having many experiences or meeting many people is not having anything to feed into the art machine
#i think this is what i really mean when i say i dont have the artist's mind#i like drawing and am learning to enjoy how i draw#but beneath the lines i dont really know how to make anything meaningful#i wish i could experience the brain of another artist for this reason like#i didnt do much as a kid didnt watch or play many things didnt meet many people i read quite#a bit but nothing really stuck never learned much in school bc id always just draw#is this why i have nothing even now at 26 living almost the same life?#i cant cobble together a story or background for my characters i cant make stuff that Means anything#i always talk also about how i fear finding a partner bc my stuff is just 99% self indulgent sanity keeping work#idk what id make without the lonely#i dont even know what to make With the lonely but its all thats here#<- this part is only barely related but theres a connection there ykwim#talkys#ive never felt anything good or bad in either direction...not much to draw from ...#i know i dont NEED my ocs to have roles in a novel but it just gets embarrassing at some point#ppl take interest in talon and i cant put together anything interesting there's nothing in my brain#i cant connect threads i cant think outside of the box#alas! alas#i think its just always going to be one of those immutable things 😞 too late to rewire rhe brain#especially since the monotony and captivity is ongoing.#goodnite ^_^
