>reiji was a misspelling - i forgot that the japanese for thunder was rai, not rei, so reiji ended up as reiji rather than something playing off being an electric type. a spikey design and feeling for the speech bubble to contrast circe. also thats a pecha scarf because i like not being poisoned. >circe, in mythology, is the daughter of the sun god helios. fire type, daughter of the sun, you get the idea. a more rounded and curly design and speech bubble to contrast reiji. i forgot if circe was wearing the band that increased attack or the one that increased special attack but she certainly is wearing one. >phosphor's name is taken from a game called Oneshot!! the lamp visible in the last page is inspired directly by the lamplighter guys lamp and their speechbubble features a lightbulb, a big plot-important object in Oneshot

>fey is a reference to maya fey from ace attorney!! a purple scrunchie to reference that maya is purple, a magatama both around feys neck and in her speech bubble because thats plot important. the chains in the speech bubble are also a reference to ace attorney and the magatama. the background silhouette is the hazakura temple gates because that case was sure memorable.

>basilisk is a reference to the common water basilisk! so hella water motif and an attempt to merge a wooper with a basilisk. hell yeah.

>rivulet!! rain world rivulet!!!! i gave rivus big ol eyes to a surskit and stuck their axolotl-esque whisker on top and put pink highlights to make a surskit design with a very obvious inspiration. i didnt want to go with a water motif cause basilisk already had that so i made the background silhouette rivulet the slugcat and gave the speech bubble a more wavey look for fun.

>(in hindsight basilisks (walks on water) and rivulets (axolotl) names should have been swapped. that wouldve fit better. but oh well it is what it is and i dont wanna change it)

tbh i really hated the fact that g5 got away from the dumbass names they'd give to the ponies and i wanted to try to bring that back but still have g4's flare to it

i made hitch green cause god damn it we need more green horses in this world, and the fact that he and sunny look too alike like you could mistake them for being siblings (plus changing him to be loosely cactus theme ties him back into his sheriff stick in my opinion) (also i kinda hate how his cutiemark turned out, oh well)

every day i grieve the hippie izzy we could've had, i would've LOVED a hippie main character. Also i made her reflect her moon name better cause it really bugged me that she had moon and they did nothing with it, moonshine is a sleep therapist that does art on the side in this. I gave her dreadlocks to help differentiate her from misty but still keep the natural hair (also haha alcohol name)

I also grieve mechanic sunny, it wouldve been so fun having her invent shit on the fly, not to mention it would actually give her a hobby cause all she does is roller skate and sell smoothies when she isn't yapping. And now that i think about it if she was a mechanic it would make even more sense on how they managed to make that flying van thing they use.

Zipp and Pipp have always annoyed me in a design sense I hated how they didn't look related and i hated zipp's hair style toothpaste looking ass. I wish they would commit and give her a mow hawk but alas we live in a cruel world. My designs for them don't really help them look that much more related but I did give them the same markings so you can't say i didnt try. Another thing I changed zipp's special talent from daredevil or whatever to making storms because A i think it wouldve been interesting to see a character who needed magic to gain their cutiemark and B it helps differentiate her more from rainbow dash.

Misty I have the least amount of issues of her in canon cause I think her design is actually really stinkin cute! I mostly just made her look shyer and got rid of the weird pink gradients on her cause they didn't really look that good. (plus her orange mane she gets later I don't like as much)

I do think as a clan leader who's literally living near the mountaintops and cold areas she deserves to at least have some calloused hands or scars

I tried to keep her young look, but because I'm absolutely shit at drawing anything young, she looks a bit older, so sorry folks. Ik the looking older thing might be good but I thought it was interesting if I kept her youth to contrast her personality and role

i finished veilguard and i kinda need to write smth down cuz idrk how this game should make me feel atm

spoilers for dragon age the veilguard below the cut

i dont think i liked veilguard this much tbh. it wasn't a total disappointment but i expected a different game altogether. theres not many aspects i enjoyed about it and when i think about replaying it in the future im like "... im not looking forward to experiencing any of this again" like there wasnt a single point in the game i really had fun playing?? idk

the characters fall completely flat for me. theres no one i think was cool or fun interacting with during my playthrough. i think i liked taash a little? like at least they were funny sometimes and their dialogue seemed genuine most of the time. spite was also funny sometimes. i think i liked spite more than i liked lucanis which is a shame. the least boring guy was probably davrin, i might check out his romance in the future cuz i liked assan and yea.. davrin was really ok tbh. the absolute worst character for me was harding??? harding was so fucking annoying all game and she was just... not at all like harding. all her lines were so obnoxious and just idk. i think the dialogues overall were just really bad cuz i actually enjoyed most character arcs, i even thought hardings was amongst the strongest. i also didnt like that you could never just chat with your companions and ask them about their lives or whatever, you had to wait for them to want to talk to you in order to be able to interact with them at all and overall the companion aspect of veilguard was just trash. they mightve wanted to go back to da2 or ME style but this doesnt fit modern games anymore imo and just made me not care at all for any of the companions. the romances were way too short too. i liked the romance element the most in any given dragon age and its always been important to me so veilguard fucked this up bad imo :/ theres like 10-20 hours of gameplay at a time where your romance does not progress at all and at times i thought it bugged out but apparently its intended to be this lacking in content

speaking of characters.... rook was really unlikeable to me? ANY dialogue option was horrible cuz rook is just a very annoying, terribly written protagonist

the map design was ok i think... i wouldve preferred the inquisition approach and for everything to be less linear and streamlined. seeing bigass fogwalls with an actual interface LOCKED symbol isnt very immersive??? just let me explore on my own wtf. while some locations were cool and beautifully designed, especially dock town and treviso, exploring them wasnt that engaging since there wasnt much to see. ive seen people on here say most of the locations seemed like theme parks and i agree, especially the necropolis and hossberg

obviously it feels bad for decisions in previous games to not matter at all, i feel like this used to be a core mechanic to all dragon age games and now they just dropped it

the cutscenes however were all very good imo, the overall story of the game was great and especially the cutscenes were super impactful and emotional, i cried a BUNCH during this game. i just think its funny how the small scale writing is so bad but the overarching story was good? id say the game is not worth it outside of the main story quests and some companion quests. theres probably a billion people out there who would disagree with me saying the main story writing was good but i think it was just fine to focus on solas and the aftermath of his actions. at least solas didnt suffer much from bad writing in this game and he continues to be one of the most interesting characters to ever exist probably. every scene featuring solas was great and whenever he wasnt present the quality took a nose dive. tbh morrigan also stayed true to her character id say and she also kinda carried the game

i fuckin hate this weirdass dalish art direction overhaul? stop with the fucking futuristic gadget triangle look??? this doesn't give elf fantasy at all, i think i disliked bellara and the veil jumpers MOSTLY because of this shitty design choice

i legit feel insane mentioning this but i DO NOT get how meredith was irrelevant?? they showed the red lyrium idol in the teaser, they confirmed her return at the end of absolution and i was 100% sure she would somehow be relevant in the veilguard story but she just....wasnt. i truly dont get it. but at this point theres a billion characters that shouldve been relevant given the themes and locations and they just werent. we had plenty reason to see characters like zevran, merril or fenris again. i AM grateful for the cameos we got tho, i was really happy to see familiar faces every now and then

the dragon fights are the best in the series imo. theyre not elden ring levels of cool but they are the best in all of dragon age. the combat system was really nice and dynamic, i was looking forward to this and it absolutely delivered. i WOULD replay veilguard to try a different class/build

the character creator was good, transmogging was good, i liked having a few specific weapons and gear pieces for different combat stats...... yea

i feel like.... everything in the game is just kinda washed out. theres barely any conflict in the world OR between the characters. everything is giving super weenie hut jr. vibes and i dont say this bc i want broodmother stories and abuse back but did we really forget about the crows trafficking children? did we forget about slavery in tevinter? why is none of this shown, it feels like this was erased to be as palatable as possible

there was sooooooo much missed potential with this game... or my expectations were too demanding idk. when i saw 12 eluvians in the crossroads i got SUPER excited for all the possible locations, even hoping one would open to kirkwall. but that never happened and besides the main locations the rest was just used for one-time companion quest visits.

overall i expected more... its not a terrible game but i really was hoping for something else. my opinion might change and i might be overly emotional and aggravated bc i literally just finished a couple hours ago but at the moment... im not that happy tbh. i hope my feelings about it calm down over time. mostly im disappointed cuz the game just came out and is, like all the other dragon age games, something completely different and its not another origins or another 2 or another inquisition. and i mean why would it be? we already got those games so ofc veilguard is something entirely new. maybe once enough time passes i can enjoy the game for what it is but at the moment i feel very "meh" about it and kinda miss the other games

every day i wonder what happened during the design process of equestria girls for them to all come out the way they did. i can see where the skirts thing came from cause they wanted them to be undeniably girly i guess or whatever but. every other weird decision is just confusing

like fluttershys whole outfit, the shortish skirt but especially the tank top. maybe its meant to indicate that shes outdoors a lot with animals, but it completely betrays her shyness and tendency to try and hide herself

they kinda messed up big mac and shining armor? mostly shining armor. his jaw could slice metal. why he look like that

also i only realized while looking at the characters that. okay i was just going to say 'lol cheerilees hair is stupid its like 1 foot taller than her head, why didnt they just give her normal bangs wtf' and i still mean that but then i realized... they swapped her mane and fur colors for her human counterpart ??? so now her usually darker coat and light hair became dark hair and light skin ??

which leads me to the point about the skin colors being weird. like. i dont like how they lightened them up, i dont like how aj and big mac have human skin colors (i have to assume maybe they thought for them that the colors looked bad, or possibly even close to caricature territory, especially with big mac), and the way they outright lightened up the colors of at least 2 normally darker ponies? like i said, cheerilee, but also

luna. even back when i first saw the movie and adored it, i DID NOT like the princesses designs. how did they fuck up some of the best characters in the show, especially the ones that are the prettiest (imo).

i would say that of the 3, cadence is the most okay design (i know we dont see her in the first movie just roll with me here). its clearly her, she looks like her and has her vibe (visually), all around not bad. not necessarily my favorite, theres still something slightly off? but it doesnt rub me the wrong way

celestia... i dont like her vibe. who is she. shes light pink and she has hair spikeys that are meant to look like a crown but just made it look like she didnt brush her hair properly. she has celestias hair but her face does not read like celestia to me. she looks like an imposter. where is my mother

and finally. the pinnacle of the issues with the designs. luna.

WHO IS SHE. THAT OUTFIT? NOT LUNA. THAT HAIR? YOU WOULDVE BEEN BETTER OFF JUST DOING A GRADIENT. OR PUTTING IN LITTLE STAR HAIR CLIPS. THAT FACE? THATS SOMEONES WINE MOM WHO SINGS EXTRA LOUD AT CHURCH. same critique about the hair spikeys as before. AND THE SKIN??? HELLO??? THE PRINCESS OF THE NIGHT GOT TURNED INTO PRINCESS OF MIDDAY. WHY.

the design of the show vs the movies is, i guess now literally, night and day. pony luna is so inspired and pretty and meant to invoke such regality, its very clear what her theme is, and she very much sticks out amongst the others, both in shape and details!

but the human version feels generic, she could easily be a background character (and she basically was), she feels unfinished, the colors on their own arent the worst but moreso feel insulting when compared to the original (i like the addition of pink/pinkish purple to the palette, but not so much to luna as a character. it just isnt her imo), she doesnt even look like an authority figure aside from obviously looking older than the other characters, let alone being someone meant to be somewhat equivalent to royalty. also again she was a minor character here but its like... her pony version has such a stone strong personality, both when shes freshly back from the moon and later on when shes more grounded and princess-like. human luna is just... generic teacher person. did human luna even ever experience significant isolation and feeling completely unseen by everyone she cared about? doubt it.

and yeah, they significantly lightened her skin ?? why ?? theres literally no reason to do that? she wouldnt look like a caricature unless you somehow chose the wrong colors (how possibly would you), and its not exactly impossible to draw characters with darker skin, again her pony form literally has a dark coat !! but also plenty of people have redesigned her human form to have the right skin color and they look great!! and in general obviously theres plenty of characters with dark skin, like... what was the reason they did that. it just feels gross.

anyway yeah its been over 10 years since EG first aired and i loved it back then and i still love it but i think a lot more about character designs now. mlp g4 is known for having these really pleasant and well put together designs with lovely colors (for the most part), its so weird how that gets easily messed up, like in g5, but also still in g4 itself(in the spinoffs and the main show lol)? wish i had the motivation to redesign them all lol, i probably will someday. please go look at redesigns theyre very lovely

brass lining: my first ever iterator oc. they were made over a year ago. they are my most "typical" (working to solve the great problem) iterator and though i don't develop much for them, they are important because i use them as a reference point for my other iterators

flight of the crows: their antenna are really hard for me to draw. why did i design them like that? because it looks cool. they are somehow both very emotionally intellegent and also unable to figure out how to handle other peoples emotions

chains by summer: originally, i based him off prometheus but now he more resembles achillies. i wouldve added more ancient greek influence to his design and atititude but greece nor a greece-like culture exist in rain world

three star songs: personally my favorite iterator color pallette that i made (i didnt make paradox). i consider her one of my more underrated iterators because i love her so damn much but i feel others are more interested in summer or paradox. NOTHING wrong with that by the way

paradox of creation: their lore was originally concieved because i am autistic about the immune system. now one of the greatest explorations of iterator anatomy and physiology ive done

salt wind blows: stole his name off of a username i saw somewhere. i dont really talk about her much but she's a secret favorite of mine

garden of bones: unrevealed because i want ita designer to post them first but their name comes from a song i thought was a sick iterator name for months

all the immunerators: each of them have at least one dot on their face, inspired by cell nucleus :)

equinox of winter: when i made them, i wanted to try drawing iterators different from what i usually do and in canon. very much will draw more bulky iterator ocs in the future!

call of the blade: she has three dots because she is based on a neutrophil. neutrophils have a three-lobed nucleus!

a perfect tragedy: it never moved in its can because the puppet is literally attached to the walls. its other structuremates cannot understand how it doesnt want to fidget

rising memory: vaguely inspired by the same origin as my sona! archivist from inscryption. help

bead from the branch: bead's body markings are based on a simplified drawing of antibodies, which b cells produce

hello i have so many thoughts about triage

ok so short version i think what probably happened is his wife was sick and he tried to use organ transplants from his children to save her and it didnt work*. this is just going to be me dumping all my thoughts and hoping they make sense

*maybe they were incompatible because his kids got more of his genes. he might also feel guilty about that.

*other option is they WERE compatible so he took organs from his kids to use as a transplant for his wife and this possibly killed the kid(s) and/or it just didnt take anyway so all three of them died. considering how the bit after the bridge shows all three of them liquifying i think they all died

^ ive seen a lot of theories about how it might be medicine but i feel like with the organ compatibility labels in throw down this might be like. labels for when youre transporting organs? and him handing it to his son is like handing down his fate (death) and he feels sooo guilty about it

“those cards of promise i discarded, they were retribution for my incessant taking” aha. because he had been taking organs from patients he was being “punished” by fate by  getting incompatibility reports. this begs the question does he believe in some karmic fate or a higher power? which makes his deal with amane interesting

OK starting from the beginning now. i think its really interesting how hes shown in much more casual clothes because in throw down it was either doctor uniform or like designer clothes? so this is almost like a third side of him

“in that case, i should’ve been the one” he feels, looking back, like he should’ve sacrificed himself to save his wife instead of their kids

the arches are so interesting i think they represent choice, his choice of who to save: his wife or his kids. shidou in casual clothes is seen walking in front of the arches and then in more formal clothes hes standing between them, forced to make a choice

the flowers wilting as he walks by them... man. i dont have anything to say its just a neat imagery on how he causes death or whatever

pomegranates... pomegranates  r so symbolic of various things like  life and death (think persephone) . i do not need to go into all that. everyone know about the fruit having the medical labels so that represents maybe medicine?

“killing, extracting, i still wont see them again” despite all his efforts it didnt work and he couldnt save his wife and ended up killing their sons. sad! well theres other worlds

i think the visuals in that bit are also interesting but moreso in a way of like. ok hes a doctor of course theyre well off but like dayum!! lobster? and pomegranates? expensive tastes. like how  this whole pursuit is costly hmm?

“i need to be tagged as red” he feels so guilty and thinks he deserves to die. im  not elaborating on this too much everyone knows this and he repeats it multiple times.

hes indispensable so now he feels like hes not allowed to die because the other prisoners need him...

ok in the bridge i think its interesting because when the guilty line shows up, only one of the arches shadows is visible, but on the innocent line, both of them are visible... he feels guilty because of the choice he made but maybe if hed managed to save everyone then his actions wouldve been justified and forgivable. also more pomegranates representing death and i think the pancakes represent their happy home life

this part is fascinating because while he feels like he IS guilty and SHOULD be sentenced to death... he wants to have a purpose again (helping people) and he wants to have a reason to live and he wants to redeem himself... “to extract that fang” i know some people are interpreting this as oh hes gonna get rid of kotoko. but honestly i think he just wants to heal and mitigate the damage shes doing (the “fang”)

the chorus sounds weird when you first listen to the words but like.... hes so sickened by his own actions... he doesnt believe he should be forgiven but he does want to live deep down. “i want to be innocent, i want to live”

if anyone has any ideas on the “hurling slurs of ‘hostage game’“ or if theres a better translation... i do not really understand this line at all... maybe it represents how he feels like he has a choice between the lives of either kotoko or the other guilty prisoners... like he had to choose between his wife and their kids... because in a hostage situation you cant get everything you have to compromise

ive been revisiting adventure time (sort of. ive had it on while im doing stuff so im sort of absorbing it but ill pay more attention if i manage to get to stuff i havent seen) and i still love marshall and gumball but trying to understand fiona and cake is making my brain hurt

- in the adventure time encyclopedia (which i havent finished reading but its fun) ice king describes ice queen as like his perfect soul mate, so she seems to be part “obviously my female self would be beautiful and everyone loves her because im handsome and lovable” and part “ice king designs his ideal waifu” so that part tracks. thats fine. but

- why did he design fiona like that. shes cute id like her as a standalone character but the fact that. well firstly that the show designers decided to give her a short skirt and curves when finn is drawn as like, a little playdoh man, is already Kinda Weird and looks like what a sexy finn halloween costume wouldve been if she didnt already exist. but then when we realize ice king designed her its even worse. and he makes fiona in love with him which is uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

its also very odd that ice king apparently chose to characterize fiona as like. more mature about crushes and relationships than finn is? she realizes she doesn’t need a boyfriend and doesnt actually want to date her male friends. finn doesnt figure that shit out for Ages if he ever does at all, i never finished the show. so why would ice king, a man who thinks relationships are just kidnapping someone and making them love you, write finn as a more emotionally mature and stable girl

- i love gumball and most of his weird characterization can be explained by. the fact that most of the episode he’s actually ice queen in disguise. but he still asks fiona out at the end and she decides she doesnt want to date him. bubblegum isnt and never has liked finn like that for the major reason that hes way too young for her. i never really noticed how obvious the age difference is when i was a kid myself but as an adult its like. yeah finn is a Child to her. maybe gumball’s relationship with fiona is off because ice king doesnt know them that well and invented his own interpretation but there is no way ice king ships bubblegum with finn. we also then have the issue of “this (at least) 18 year old just asked out a 13 year old” which, uh, not a good look either. but the fact that ice king still writes gumball as uninterested in ice queen but fiona is in love with ice king is just really fucking weird and i don’t understand it

- also yes the “gumball started taking off his shirt” thing was the ice queen revealing who she really was, it wasnt actually sexual and gumball himself didnt do that, but by the way fiona and cake reacted it was clearly written to come across like he was about to take her to bed. which is again, a problem that the show writers thought that was cool to include, and a Real problem if ice king wrote it intentionally

anyway all that was weird. i still like gumball and marshall though. i feel like it would have made more sense if LSP wrote it and not ice king

A) hmm im gonna say 8? im not very good at number ratings. i had read the book already so i went in with the context of everything and coryo's internal monologue so i very much enjoyed it for the visuals and being able to see everything i read on screen + hearing the songs. biggest pride point is that ballad of lucy gray baird sounds exactly like i thought it would -- i have a recording of me singing how i thought it sounded and its nearly the same as in the movie so i was VERY haunted by that bc it felt like it was taken out of my mind. however, if i hadnt read the books, i dont think i wouldve enjoyed it as much bc it took away from a lot of the story to not know what snow was thinking -- it just didnt have the same impact

things i like: the dress was gorgeous and very realistic (and the touch of katniss and primrose designs on the bodice was chefs kiss), and the color symbolism was very fun to watch unfold, both with the obvious district blue/panem red as well as the colors of the roses and just the color imagery in general. i love rachel zegler and am very happy with her as lucy gray, but sejanus was perfect casting for me; he looked EXACTLY like i thought he would. also when i was reading the book, i knew what took place where and when that matched up with places in thg, but being able to see it was a whole other story.

things i dont like: um nothing much really for the movie on its own? like i have Opinions on the changes they made, but as it's own thing, i only wish we had more of coryo's internal thoughts -- and if not, a heavier emphasis on lucy gray. without either, it just felt like the dynamics fell a little flat, especially compared to the dynamics of the og movies.

B) OOOOOOOH okay so i was fine with most of the changes to the story for the movie -- theres only so much time and so many ways to show something and its a different medium, so i understand why things had to be different. BUT! i very much did not like two changes. one, that lucy gray wins the games by not being killed by the snakes. its a lovely scene and great to watch, but i feel like it almost takes power away from lucy gray. we, as the audience, know that it isnt her singing that keeps the snakes at bay, and so all it really shows us is how easy it is to make the capitol see district citizens as human like them, if only they get past their own blinders. and since she survives bc coryo gave his handkerchief with her scent to the snakes, it just makes it so he won the games, not lucy gray. the way it played out in the book mightve been less cinematic to watch, but it was much better in my opinion. like, the fact that lucy gray had to resort to using reaper's humanity against him in order to kill him, and that it was a suicide that led to her survival was very poignant and i feel like we missed out on that.

the other change i disliked was how we didnt see arachne's funeral and the spectacle it became. again, i know that with the movie's age rating, it might not have been entirely possible to show the parade of brandy's body but i very much wish we had to be forced to confront the dehumanization that was prevalent in the capitol -- i feel like we hear it a lot in the movie, but we dont ever really see it in a way that isnt excusable by the games. i also think it wouldve been a very intriguing parallel for coryo's to sing the anthem (also bc he sings it in the books twice i think, once in a group and once alone) and have his performance be a stark difference to how lucy gray and the covey perform. one thing the movie did well was letting the art stand for itself -- the music, sure, but also the designs of the clothes and the city, as well as the statue at the end. i think adding coryo's singing wouldve been awesome to see.

i also kind of wish we saw the plinths get close to coryo just bc it was so important to propel him into who he became, but i understand that there just wasnt enough time and space to show that. although, when they played the jabberjay recording at sejanus's execution? GAGGED. i nearly started screaming right there. that little sequence will haunt me forever.

i do wish ballad was split into two movies despite any backlash to give more time to tell this story -- the book itself is absolutely packed, so to make it one movie under three hours long almost feels like a disservice? but i honestly went in to put some visuals to the book and to watch the arc play out on a screen, and so im pretty happy with what i got! im definitely rewatching it when i rewatch the other movies and thats all i really need :]

uhhh anyway. so like yesterday was my first time ever doing story day 1 and i have many Thoughts about the AQ. mostly positive unfortunately my major gripes do relate to the childe/narwhal situation which kinda dampens the overall experience more than any other part being underwhelming would given (gestures in general direction of self). like we all know the multitude of diseases i have on the subject 💀

dunno how much of a complete nonsense rambley writeup thisll be i think i might take some time to sort out my overall thoughts and write sth more coherent specifically on childe/narwhal stuff, maybe leave out some other aspects i have more pointed thoughts on as well so this wont get mega long but eh lets see. this just all kinds of thoughts i have for now And its a mess so Beware

anyway. firstly. as scarred as i am by melus and silver. Its also just. holy shit man theyre truly just straight up tapdancing on teppeis grave like THIS is how you write NPC deaths in an actually emotionally impactful way. dunyarzad was a massive glow up already in terms of NPC writing in general but she didnt die so. but like the way their characters and bond to both callas and navia is built up and how the writers actually managed to make them feel like such dynamic people even if their roles are ultimately quite straightforward made their fates just... genuinely heartbreaking like what the fuck 😭😭😭 AND THE WAY THEY STILL SAVED NAVIA FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE AND SAID THEIR FAREWELLS I JUST. I CANT. i just teared up thinking about it again

idk what could be said about navia that hasnt been said a gigabillion times before like. Wow. she is just. Truly the moment. like she fucking blindsided my ass in 4.0 bc i wasnt expecting anything like how dynamic and compelling and complex her arc and characterization has been like. everything about navia her resolve her grit her experiences and her bravery and stubbornness just feels so incredibly human and raw and she is just? a wonderful character i never foresaw falling in love with her this much like truly. and she delivered JUST as hard in 4.2 too like if it werent for navia being the conduit through which we first experience the devastation of poisson i dont think it wouldve ever hit as hard as it did. i just wanna comfort her shes already been thru so much yet i also admire her insistence to keep going and keep living like man 😭😭😭 give her a happy story quest hoyo idgaf if it gets called shallow or some bs she deserves a break!!!!!

i think some ppl are disappointed by arles relative lack of presence in fontaine overall and while i get that i can genuinely say that its been so fucking refreshing to have an AQ centering on a conflict thats not entirely or mostly fatui based. its not like the weight or intimidation factor of arlecchinos presence has been any lesser just bc shes been largely on the same side as us. like personally i just Really enjoyed seeing her characterization throughout. the way shes been just so reasonable thus far makes me extra excited for whenever she might actually snap (at least hopefully she will). like both childe and scara think shes fucking insane?????? but yea. i also really enjoy arles dynamic with the HoH kids too like. i do think she genuinely cares for them in a way but i highly doubt thats all there is to it. and thats really neat. goes for things like her help to spina di rosula and poisson too; theres definitely strings attached to that aid lmao. even if arle has no particularly malicious designs in mind, shes a harbinger. like cmon. and i really like that!!

i dont have like. that extensive thoughts abt what i call the . uhhh. this is mean but extended cast of act 5 JKJKDWJKDJKAJK like HoH gang, clorinde, sigewinne, wrio. tho i do very much appreciate that clorinde dodged the sara allegations for good like. it was looking a little bit unfortunate in 4.0. her role wasnt super major but i love her english VA and this kind of grounded sort of character she ultimately is. also sigewinne jumpscare during furinas trial i love her so much.

mona n nicoles thing was unfortunately mostly a whateverburger for me bc. im sorry im not that interested in hexenzirkel lmao i feel like such an outlier in any lore discussion circles bc im just not that hype about them (gold is an icon however) idk why. it was neat, it happened, didnt bring any mega hype. what i liked the most was honestly just the talk with mona about destiny and fighting against it and all. she really felt like a friend trying to help us navigate our thoughts on this insane horrible situation going on!!

in terms of plot things uhhh i went in mostly blind? as to the actual events. i had spoiled myself a bit on some specific aspects (my own fault) but ultimately most had no effect on how much i enjoyed everything. also lowering my expectations on the. ahem. worries i had abt childe that unfortunately came true so i was less let down on the spot wjjkajkwdjkwd. my biggest issue was actually that i had to progress lyneys story quest TWO FUCKING TIMES by a pretty notable amount bc it was blocking locations. and that dumbass office drama world quest like i was morbing.

a particular standout moment (beyond the Obvious. i need not name it THE LAUGH THE FUCKING THUMBS DOWN also singed FL can kinda lowkey 100% absolutely get it) for me was when i was so invested in our conversation with furina in poisson and in the magic box that i actually fucking forgor about the whole trap scheme thing even existing and then the box fell open and i was like WAIT WHAT THE FUCK and started laughing for like a solid 5 minutes i was caught so off guard. what an incredible moment. bc like. when the thing we were hiding in w furina started shaking i was just hell yeah narwhal modcheck? narwhal modcheck? bc obviously i would. and didnt question for a second that it could be something else. like the trap we were LITERALLY plotting to set up just a bit earlier it actually killed me. altho the fact that one of the cursed lyney quest situations were in between the scheming scene and the poisson segment prolly had to do with it. anyway it was just really funny

i think this post is gonna take me 287382 years to finish if im gonna go into the like furina character arc situation and her trial and focalors and all that shit super in depth (+ narwhal/skirk things) but like. BELIEVE me i fucking loved it so much like its so awful and painful and horrible and just. best written archon easily. zhongli n venti i think r very well written but theyre p static characters bc oldies so its a bit different. raiden is. inazuma moment no comment needed. nahida is good but tbh i never truly reconciled with the way rukkha getting irminsuled sorta just erased the central conflict behind her inferiority complex so it somewhat ruined her character arc for me even if it did make me cry and i do love her chara overall. but furina i think they executed the whole setup and reveals and everything so incredibly well its insane like. god. 500 years........ and like. the way furinas arc just flops everything uve known about her and the interactions uve had with her sideways and turns it upside down realizing the predicament shes been in and what shes been grappling with. its just incredible man. harrowing but incredible like they truly delivered on that one. like that portion of the finale was just really well done

anyway not all thoughts i have by any means but whatever. ive just been Thinking. overall had a great time with the AQ n cutscenes in particular are only getting better and better, i thiiiiink this one tops sumeru for me? but like its sorta unfair bc i was never a scara stan whereas. even a narratively mishandled narwhal is a fucking world-devouring narwhal. unfair advantage. childe being there at all even if i have my gripes is too much points in favor KJWJKWJKDWDJKJK. theres things that make me really hopeful for the future writing but also things that concern me. so its an interesting situation rn. but im glad it went as ambitious as it did even if my fave got arguably sidelined the most. just hoping they actually do sth more with childe sooner than later if they want to leave all those loose ends unaddressed in 4.2. interlude rights PLEASE

thinking abt how fredbear was most likely also designed as a springlock suit , one specifically for henry ...

henry likely didnt use it as often as will did spring bonnie — not even including the mans... extracurricular activities. still, he did, sometimes ; he was a little less averse to being in the public eye when he was in the suit. people werent looking at him when he was hidden behind that mask, after all, they were looking at fredbear. it was less personal, that way — he was less worried about what others thought when there was that slight layer of anonymity. he could focus on entertaining customers, keeping an eye on the kids during parties, etc etc. he could even enjoy it. a rare occurrence for a man so afraid of being perceived by others. he didnt use the suit often, but, when he did, he found a strange sort of comfort in it.

at least, he did until ... until evan. until he looked up at the stage and saw fredbears face — one he felt more connected to than his own, at times, as that was the one the public saw more often than not — drenched in the blood of the boy he regarded as closely as family. it makes him nauseous to even think about that animatronic to this day , a mixture of misplaced guilt and stomach-turning revulsion. he will never be able to get that image out of his head.

whether he was there when it happened — it was a party in his establishment after all, a party for the family that had accepted him as one of their own so readily. there was no doubt he wouldve wanted to attend one way or another — or if he was just sent in after the fact, left to be the one to clean up the stage and shut down the animatronic for good ... theres no way he wasnt left alone with fredbear for far too long after it happened. what that mustve done to him, the knowledge that fredbear — his animatronic, his creation, his second identity, the one he felt most comfortable in more often than not — had just crushed evans skull in its jaws. he wasnt as desensitized to death as he would eventually become, back then. evan was likely the first major loss he had experienced, the first death he had been close to, depending on what exactly happened with charlies mother by default in my canon [ which i still havent figured out yet, shhh... ] so... the fact that it was that gory, that traumatizing ... it wouldve shaken him to his core

evan. out of everyone it couldve been, it had been evan. hed loved that boy, loved him as his own — knew charlie saw him as her baby cousin and, god, she mustve been devastated too — and now, here he was, made to wipe the boys blood off of fredbears teeth, soak it out of his fur.

sure, maybe it wasnt entirely necessary — god knows fredbear would never be allowed up on stage again — but he felt like he had to. it was his duty. wouldve been disrespectful to them, both to fredbear and to evan, if the bot had just been left to rot in some storage room still coated in blood and gore. it wouldntve been right.

so he stayed, and he cleaned fredbear up. no matter how many sleepless nights it cost him — probably still costs him, haunted by the memory as he is — how many mealtimes he had to skip from how physically nauseated he was by the horrorshow shut away in his workshop, the countless hours he spent wallowing in the grief and guilt and swearing that hed never build something so inadvertently dangerous ever again ... he still did it.

even then, drowning in guilt as he was, i just know he wouldve refused to acknowledge that he was personally affected by the tragedy. no, no, the aftons were more important. what time he didnt spend restoring fredbear or trying his best to keep their company afloat throughout all this was spent consoling william. no doubt there was some amount of vitriol projected at him from the grieving father — if he blamed himself solely because his suit was the one that ended evans life, theres no way william didnt do the same to some degree. even if it made no sense at all, it wasnt like much did at that time. william was intent upon pointing fingers anywhere he could, first at michael and then at henry and then likely even at his own wife for not stopping it. that was just how he worked, how he processed his grief. everyone was at fault but himself. it wasnt targeted — henry just happened to be there to stick the blame on.

even if henry knew that, he would still end up internalizing the blame, i know he would — he would just take it as confirmation that the weird guilt he held, stemming from the strange attachment he held to fredbear, the entanglement of identities, was deserved. he and michael arent all that different in their responses to the bite, in that aspect, in the way the guilt eats them alive. god knows he would try to comfort the boy, if he could — if michael would let him, if william didnt see it as such a betrayal.

just . thinking about henrys reaction to the whole ordeal is so interesting to me . a tragedy he held no fault in, and yet he carries the weight of it in its entirety on his shoulders. deep-seated trauma that likely wouldntve hit him so hard if it werent for his constant need to take responsibility, to fix everything on his own. the loss that began the process of chipping away what few positive relationships he had left, yet he still somehow refuses to acknowledge that he has any right to mourn. evan wasnt his, after all. william clearly missed him more, right? william just lost his son. clearly that meant he needed to be henrys first and only priority, here. clearly henry didnt deserve any space to grieve.

okay im in the once in a lifetime mood to talk about my ocs so i will talk about ai (wip name)

most of this is old art forgive me but this is roughly what she looks like. her design is also still a wip but these r her basics. ignore the scar placement inconsistency

so her personality uh. She’s Got Issues. she was always a little funky (i think she has a personality disorder but im still figuring out which one) but things can really be traced back to the fact her home is raided during a war and she loses her baby brother (or so she thinks)

her brother got separated from her and their mother during the raid and despite her wanting to look for him her mother just picked her up and ran. her mom’s reasoning was she didnt want to lose two kids. like. it was an impossible situation. if they stayed they wouldve died, if they left ai hates her but at least shes alive. so she made a choice. ai never really forgave her for this. she misses her brother and has been searching for a decade to find…something. some sort of closure. a body or sign he made it or SOMETHING. he did survive btw (hes the guy next to ai in the first art) but this post isnt about him

anyway ai joins crusades/medieval military bullshit to basically use as a means to travel around trying to find said closure. shes been in it for a long time but she isnt very high ranked cause she just sucks at obeying orders lol. if shes under your command you better hope you get along cause otherwise she can be such a bitch

its not so much that she has issues with authority so much that she has issues with uh everyone. lol. shes very blunt and very smart and very antisocial so shes like impossible to deal with cause shes smart enough to figure out what annoys people and shes inclined to shamelessly act that way so people leave her the alone. she is crazy

that being said some people fall between the cracks of this and she gets really. hm. “friendly” isnt the right word but its the closest i can think of. with them. she has a little buddy named adelia that reminds her of her baby brother and a girl named Arha shes in a weird “im kinda in love with you kinda not” thing with (shes the mermaid in the second pic. debating if shes an actual mer person of sorts in canon. idk how fantasy-esque this is world is gonna be in the end)

ai’s story is kinda about. starting to live for yourself instead of a romanticized past esp once you get closure re that past. she’ll never become like. warm per se but she learns how to properly appreciate the people in her life such as adalia and arha. she learns how to let go and how it huuuuurts and how the tug might pull other parts of her loose too but shes not a fragile cliff face and she can survive it and more than thar she can be happy again

but she is always a bit of a bitch. cause its funny

i have had this character bookmarked since last year and wanted to draw so bad, he just looks so cool like he can actually be a canon character in genshin, i just had to draw him! i loved reading about him and the entire time i was lowkey brainrotting about how this character would actually be in game.

i took inspo from the official genshin character birthday arts and i think i did a pretty good job. it took me so long to actually finish this one and i worked on it on and off since life was getting busy too. my hands hurt so much drawing all the details but omg was it worth it.

Briorsena || Tarphi

also a character i had bookmarked last year and actually planned for a mass attack but that was a bit out of my skillset so i thought of a different approach and i loved her knight vibe so i thought of this dramatic portrait thing then i blacked out and suddenly its a tarot card lol

the character is so cool and detailed, it was also pain for my hands and the armor was a struggle but i had to do her justice. especially her weapon! i loved the design of it it looks so epic!! although i wouldve loved to know more about the character and her story. aksfdl i love lady knights, so cool

the next target is a friend's and oh my god is the design so cool, the medusa vibe and glowing galaxy hair is my favorite elements. its the perfect character for the death card.

the hardest part was the skeleton and i was mentally chanting to myself "it doesnt have to be accurate, it doesnt have to be accurate" while i slowly go insane with each rib. but i had fun drawing the sneks and making everything glow and stuff. although i think i made it look more underwater than galaxy now that i look at it again hhhhh

the cutest lil bean!!! shes so adorable!!! it took a bit of thinking of which she fit in but the sun is perfect. her design is so simple and cute but i took the liberty of changing her outfit a bit. i also love her unique hair braid! i wish i gotten to know this character more but alas

i took a shot at doing some backlighting but i think i still need to work on that hehe... also the sunflower brush saved my sanity because if i had to draw and paint each flower i wouldve cried (thanks to poobit who made it! there are some bits where the brush kinda did an oopsie and i only now notice it)

other thoughts:

i really liked the idea of the dnd tarot card themed attack so i will be doing this too for next year's artfight! i will keep on doing these until i've completed the major arcana! so please look forward to that!

i would think i gotten better at art this year but only a fraction since i havent gotten to draw in a long while and i missed doing this full illustrations and i think i want to do more!

life was a bit busy this july with graduating and other stuff so i only got to do 4 attacks (and a 5th one i didnt get to finish so hopefully i can attack it next year!)
