We see relics of the past and messages left by the former inhabitants. But flora and fauna keeps on living.#i've felt similar emotions playing hld and also having my own journeys through the wilderness.#It feels personal #It feels like you're getting in touch with your inner self while also experiencing the in-game world and characters' stories.#I'm very thankful that i had such experience. i love emily soooo much. i love how shes allowed to be messy, to be mean, to be bitter. and the game never tries to backtrack on this to make her sympathetic. they dont soften her rough edges. they instead bring out the most of her intelligence, and her resourcefulness, through the game design of her sequence in the mines. they put you directly in her shoes, in that moment you are her, youre working together to make it out of the mines. its incredibly effective, as seen through many streamers and players who did a complete 180 on her after this. its a brilliant example of gaming as a platform for storytelling, as you couldn't really pull off the same effect in any other media.

actually the worst takes for any sega owned property come from yakuza.

there’s a ton of themes surrounding how you can always make steps to improve yourself and atone for past actions, start over, and find reasons to live no matter how difficult life gets.

but if your take away from any of the games is organized crime is cool or that the series is about romanticizing crime or just plain using it to fuel the fetishization of japan/japanese culture please don’t play any game about morally questionable things or anything from japan ever again.

#i mean half of the series’ plot highlights how bad it is to romanticize crime even if the games get goofy #a lot of the characters do terrible things ex. i love majima but he’s not innocent in the slightest do not idolize his actions :(#part of kiryu’s side of infinite wealth is about how using someone’s legacy to romanticize something or justify bad actions is wrong #i haven’t played 5 yet (only 0-4 and iw) but i’m pretty sure based on what i’ve seen it reflects these themes too #i mean also most of the series points out japan isn’t some utopia like it gets made out to be in the west #we can’t have games with morality base themes without them being so far misinterpreted it’s baffling #shantien rambles #companion piece to my post about a bad nocturne take #rgg #yakuza

pulps law is that whenever i get insane enough about something, i will inevitably attempt to make a persona 5 au, regardless of whether or not i am successful at it.

#pulp speaks #anyways guys youre never going to guess what au ive been thinking of lately .#i know the correct way to go about this is make sidestep the main character but you see #i will not be doing that. and actually in fact i will not be following the storyline of persona 5 in the slightest. because lol #but morgana exists in this au purely because i dont think the others would survive without him explaining what the metaverse is 💀#the rangers are a team of detective for the public sector in this au #and dr mortum is an unassuming everyday scientist that should not peak the rangers interest in any way. at all #in the video game that exists in my head the player can pick between playing julia or ricardo #it doesnt change the storyline that much but it does make the character relationships funky so #in my head chen is best friends with julia and argent is best friends with ricardo #chen and ortega stumble into the metaverse together so if you pick julia its two best friends in a life or death situation #but if you pick ricardo its your sisters best friend+kinda your boss in a life or death situation which personally i find extremely funny #regardless of which ortega you play with the other one doesnt know about the metaverse until id say like. the end of the first palace? beca #use thats when they start getting suspicious #and because this is ortega they follow them and find out about the metaverse that way #i dont think they become a phantom thief but i think they do end up covering the others asses irl #dr mortum still isnt actually a doctor but i think theyre the one providing medicine to them at the start of the game #theyre extremely wary of the rangers at the start and ortega can barely convince them to sell them things which they still charge-#-extremely high over. i think the turning point comes when they discover the metaverse because holy fuck they are So excited about it #both because of the implications and what the metaverse could be used For #chen is not thrilled about letting them know this but theyre kind of their supplier so its not like he can argue #i think mortum joins the phantom thieves eventually but as a navi #obviously its in their best interest to provide everything for free now that theyre part of the team but they still have to order supplies-#-so i think the way it works out in game is that theres certain days supplies can be ordered and you have to pay for it but the items can b #-picked up at any day of the week #but also i have no idea how that would work practically (its all in my head anyway so it doesnt actually matter but yk)#theres still more thoughts about this but im ✨running out of tags✨ and also i cannot organize my thoughts enough to explain it #im not main tagging this its going to be my silly self indulgent au for eternity ok

Everytime I see your Pat lolcalization posts, I can't help but think if this is him overcompensating for voicing the character of n*zi germany in the first seasons of the hetalia anime.

I can't say and I'd rather not say anything about Pat's intent or own agenda or whatever -

But the interesting "lolcalisation changes" and direction give to VAs really seem to favour a certain reading of the events happening in FE16 and to this day, I still can't understand how that managed to be released without getting at least some flak.

Sure Fates' lolcalisation is a tough nut to beat and nothing comes quite close to what happened to Fates to FE16/Nopes, and yet I wish I am joking when I say nearly 80% of the lines involving Supreme Leader and/or Rhea/the CoS should be double checked, because "Dany expy bringing a revolution" has to fit in the story that is FE16, and that's talking about the washed down version of Dany some people have and not the one who uses violence for the greater good, until she starts to realise that the "greater good" is as solid as smoke and runs away from the - well-intentioned ! - mess she created.

Again, I don't think anything was malicious with the lolcalisation Fodlan got, is it just a case of misunderstanding the game and slapping archetypes and "trendy notions" to make this "strange" game sell like hotcakes in your home market?

Or is it another case of "think of the children Susan" where Susan sure as hell can't endorse a character presented as the heroine sprout disgusting things and advocate for imperialism 101 so the heroine is now rewritten?

Or is it the lolcalisation team - after looking at the jp script - try to make the general idea of "you must feel bad for this character" somehow work, because they thought no one would seriously want to walk with her and feel any sort of sad uwus for the "you have pointy ears, you cannot rule over humans" red emperor? So they modified the script and directed the VA accordingly ?

IDK, but I think if you've been long enough on this blog you know my stance on localisation and lolcalisation but this discrepency between the two versions (or at least two audios) really took me by surprise when the game was released in 2019 lol

I'VE FINALLY FINISHED BROTHERSHIP IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!

#clai speaks #spoilers in the tags probably #ahhh first of all i am still astounded the game exists at all. we all thought m&l was done forever but here it is!!!#the timing of me playing superstar saga and getting really into mario last year couldnt have been better #i mean i probably would have played brothership still even if mario hadnt become a main interest of mine like that. but anyway #absolutely stellar re-entry into the series it did not disappoint in the SLIGHTEST #i think i 100%'d it? only thing i didnt do was finish that last dyode dance sequence but like its fiiiine #took about 50 hours i didnt get a chance to check my final time. really surprised that the game went that long!#i dont think it was a bad thing at all though. the game mostly didnt feel like it was overstaying its welcome #i did think lottacoins and the lower level solitree went a tad too long and i didnt like them but only a little. they're still fine sections #surprised that i didnt even feel like the sidequests were a drag they were all alright!#character interactions were so good ofc. love the new cast!! starlow felt a bit flat which is a shame but she also didnt appear much so #the sidequest where she visits bowser and he calls her chippy!!!! made me so happy!!!!!#all the callbacks were so good i'm glad they can still do that. yelled out loud after finding the peasley reef #docking points for no dreambert reef however. jail worthy offence #on reclusa specifically i dont have a lot to say about his character he's just your typical evil for the sake of evil villain #but i have to say i Love his design. the really exaggerated facial expressions and that clown neck frill. really fun character actually!!#ahhh call me childish but i'm never a fan of endings where friends separate but i like to think the second uni-tree--#--will allow them to link back up once its grown and can generate more connectar to do it #cant say if its my favorite yet bc recency bias is still too fresh but its absolutely my second favorite m&l game at least!!#i havent played paper jam yet i wanted to play the original paper mario and spm first. but i always hear its bad so??#brothership is at least on par with dream team for me rn. absolutely stellar game #i hope this means we'll get more m&l someday! i've already left a very positive response on the survey they put out #anyway. now to decide what to play next because i have a MASSIVE backlog of games and i didnt think this would take this long BJDHJFHF #10/10!!!! please play brothership immediately
