Hello! A friend has sent me in your direction to ask my bothersome research questions! (context being: I'm doing a project for school about how aro and ace characters are portrayed in formally published fiction verse in fandom, focusing on MCYT because-> my hyperfixation)

The questions:

How do you think the fandom's feelings on (romantic) shipping have changed over time

When and why do you think those changes happened?

How, if at all, do you think that history has affected how we deal with shipping today?

Something tells me that you might have some personal insight on the aroace parts of the fandom (why such a high proportion and/or writing characters as aroace) I would love to hear them! And if there's anything else you want to add I really appreciate it, thank you!!! (I have a list of people I will be sending this ask to, if you feel compelled to point me towards anyone I absolutely must ask that would also be appreciated. Thank you again!!)

omg hi I might be able to help! but i admit ive been fairly disconnected from mcyt for a while. All views expressed are my own and may not account for everyone elses perspectives or even statistical data

really when talking abt shipping I can only really start with 2019 at the earliest but mcyt has a longer history than that (i was a yogs fan in 2012-2014 or thereabouts but didnt participate in fandom and then didnt get back on the mc boat until 2019). also I think the youtuber shipping culture has had an influence on shipping as well.

anyway. mcyt fans even now are very skittish about shipping and a lot of it, as of 2019, was rooted in the anti-rpf culture we saw post-septiplier. i think. I never watched either of those guys. But it was this sense that RPF and shipping can Ruin Peoples Lives or friendships or whatever. (I think it's more nuanced than that.) And of course the infamous callmecarson serious stream in 2019 when he told off his stans for writing a danganronpa AU fanfic of him and his friends. I think that started a lot of negativity toward fans engaging in fairly normal fandom things, people extrapolating things out of what he said a bit. The nature of being a mcyt fan is that you're almost never a fan of just ONE thing within the genre so of course the sentiments branched out a lot into other fandoms.

Then with dream smp we saw the rise of the "boundaries" concept: fans asking creators what they are ok with and not ok with. And I dont hate that idea in concept but I personally dislike some of the execution. (I think fans should recognize on their own what a creator should and should not be privy to and take necessary precautions to keep potentially sensitive things hidden/separate from other fanwork. I dont think we should be asking them these things directly bc it just exposes them to it.) I dont think Dream was the first one to talk about boundaries, but he was the first one to provide a full detailed list of boundaries that I know of. In late 2020, he was also the first creator to suggest/introduce the bang path ! to denote the fictional characters being discussed on the Dream SMP, so that nobody thought he was actually abusing cc!Tommyinnit in exile.

But the fictionalization is important because over the past 2 years or so fans who disliked shipping said "these are real people", and the rise of clearly defined roleplay ("lore") in MCYT spaces allowed fans to say "these are characters". (In reality it's kind of both. It's like kayfabe I think. I'm not into wrestling but its kind of like that I think.) So then you have some fans shipping some creators whove said they're ok with it, some fans not doing it at all, arguments over whether less lore-heavy servers are RP or not. It becomes a minefield. Hermit fans create a boundaries list that says the only Hermits you can ship together are Rendoc and ONLY if you ship them with each other. The funniest development from this era was, of course, writing c!Tubbo and c!Ranboo (who were canonically married with a child) as "platonic husbands" simply because the actors were both 16-17 at the time. They were actually groundbreaking teen parent representation and we should respect that (silly!)

I think the biggest turning point for Hermit/hermit-adjacent fans was actually Third Life, and I'll say it loud and proud: Flower Husbands walked so everyone else can run and I'm soooooo serious. I remember when people tried to "/p" (platonic) flower husbands. Having Jimmy and Scott, two adult men, roleplaying a married couple in a series where every person was storytelling to some extent was hugely important. FH and Third Life in early 2021 gave fans permission to engage with the story as a story, with these characters as characters. Treebark cropped up a little later (we were simmering toward the end of 3L's run and then had such a great summer that it really began to crystallize in Aug/Sept of that year. Shoutout to Redacted) but was really only able to do so because of FH, and because of the way Ren and Martyn RPed so much.

Hoo boy this is getting long SORRY. I think by 2022 and 2023 Tumblr audiences specifically were getting tired of self-policing all the time and really started to just say "fuck it we ball block tags if you have to" and embraced a "what were YOU doing at the devil's sacrament" type of attitude. Specific catch-all tags for shipping started to emerge. On the other hand, twitter audiences stayed fairly conservative with shipping - they did Not like it one bit. This is still a problem in some corners of the MCYT fandom over there, afaik. Personally I think this is in part due to lack of a real tagging system; this is also why I think "duo names" exist as a kind of alternative to ship names (also because of standom crossover). The other aspect here is proximity to creators: everyone and their mother has a Twitter account, but Tumblr is our house, and if they want to play with us, they need to understand our culture. Twitter is more interested in keeping things clean in case the creator sees it because in all likelihood they will.

Quick sidebar to mention QSMP, which had several on-screen, developing roleplayed romances, including dates and a wedding, and all of them were gay and involved people from different cultural backgrounds. I just think that's neat. 2023 was a wild time.

All of that being said...... I actually dont feel like shipping (or the lack thereof) and its history has a very significant connection with aroaceness. I can see how the bunch of terminally online young people who gravitate toward MCYT content are more likely to be aroace than the average person just because it's a very queer fandom overall (I genuinely dont think a single friend I've made in this space is cishet). I can also see how MCYT content overall is kind of "safe" if you're averse to sexual or romantic stories in the media you watch, because most of the time, MCYT creators arent super comfortable roleplaying their cubitos making out with their friends on screen for an audience to watch (MythicalSausage and most members of QSMP nonwithstanding).

I feel like, from my experience with the fandom, rather than engage with these characters as asexual or as aromantic, it's sort of a de-sexing: either they are off limits, or they are Schrodinger's Sexuality, because they're a Real Person and it's weird to headcanon Real People. If they're a real person then they should be married to the person they're married to IRL, and we don't know them, so instead it's like sexuality does not exist. But the creators are still making dick jokes anyway. And that's because sex is a joke and isn't real 😁

Again, QSMP is a bit of an exception I think - I recall Cellbit's character being canonically gay and asexual (the creator would later come out himself as asexual). <- Some fans kind of ignored this/didnt touch on it, other fans deliberately included it as an aspect of characterizing q!Cellbit and his relationship with his husband. Mikethelink also said once that his character was off limits for shipping, I think?(because Mike is IRL married and his partner was an occasional guest and presence, shoutout Barb), so fans often interpreted this as q!Mike being an aromantic character. You see a lot of interpretations of q!Mike and q!Pactw where they're in some kind of queerplatonic relationship, sort of as a result of that. I cant talk about QSMP without mentioning jaiden jaidenanimations. I love u queen xoxox

Oh my god wait how could I forget the queerplatonic emerald duo era. Wasnt there discourse about that (people trying to ship queerplatonically because it was seen as less egregious than shipping romantically)

Anyways I think double life is a deeply aromantic series and I love the divorce quartet. Shoutout messy relationships and choosing who you want to be with under the terms you decide with yourself and the people you love.

EDIT TO ADD: i think tumblr culture has been more accepting of RPF as of late i think the next big development will be a rise in genuine mcyt RPF shipping. we saw some of that in the dsmp era (just bc that fandom was huge at its peak) but ever since it's been fairly fringe. I dont think itll ever be mainstream but i feel like we'll be seeing more RPF in the next couple years to come

heres an excuse to yap about whatever you want from your supernatural au!!!!

YIPPEE!!!! time for tommy lore (with some marines + jirv + tozirvitage/armisolving)

i kinda have been operating on tommy being able to fully shift into a dog form, while the werewolves shift into the van helsing type of werewolf form. and for some reason, my brain has supplied that tommy can shift into both a wolf sized "dog" and a massive hellhound. like,,, almost tuunbaaq sized. i imagine tommy shifting into his dog form so he can easily fit on john's bed at night, AND so he can add an extra layer of protection for john while he sleeps.

he'd definitely have more of a mind of his own in his larger form, less likely to follow orders and all that. i can almost SEE him in that form catching tuunbaaq's scent and running after it before anyone can stop him. i dont think he speaks too often in his human form, and he probably doesn't show much emotion until he's been around john and sol for a good long while. his smaller form is probably more like a police dog. still a dog, but trained to attack or perform certain tasks when told. tommy and the marines are VERY much like dogs when it comes to tuunbaaq. they see this thing, and they just HAVE to run after it. they just HAVE to get it. do they? no. will they try? absolutely. will they get injured, and some of them die in the process? probably!

tommy was considered "defective" because he struggled to bond with a handler, which resulted in him being harder to control on the previous expeditions he'd been on. he was an absolute last resort by the admiralty because they had "forgotten" to place one on the terror (forgotten in parentheses bc they weren't going to put one with them bc it was francis who was captain. it wasn't until sir john realized and said something last minute). it was a surprise to everyone when he actually seemed receptive to jirv's attempts at bonding. they probably wouldn't have cared if sir john got hurt or died out there, either! he canonically wasn't their first or even second choice for this! they probably wouldn't have blinked if something went wrong and they didn't have a grim to direct them.

when john was told that HE'D be the grim's handler, he suggested letting the marines meet him first so he's used to them by the time john bonds with him because theres this distinct scent of sol's pack on him, and grims are quite territorial when it comes to their handlers (for the sake of me having my favorite characters present, pilks is on the terror instead of daly. bite me.) sol and the marines are obviously excited bc they're the only dog adjacent creatures on board, and none of them have met a hellhound before, so theres already a general air of happiness, excitement, and welcoming from them that puts tommy somewhat at ease. he's probably immediately drawn to sol out of the instinct he has to want a leader, but also because of his instinct to be part of a pack. i imagine that's why he's so keen on sol and why he hovers around him a lot. that sense of need for a leader, despite the fact that he has jirv.

also, jirv DEFINITELY had some sort of religious struggle surrounding tommy. he probably sees tommy's existence as further proof of god's existence. tommy, being able to sense and even predict deaths, to jirv just shows god's divine hand in the expedition. and in terms of tommy, seemingly carrying death on his shoulder, jirv finds it unfair. he kicks himself for doubting god, of course, but it seems unfair to him that someone as kind and as young as tommy should be stuck with such a grave misfortune. he prays for tommy a lot because he's very obviously haunted by the sheer amount of death he's encountered/been around/caused. grims were seen as omens of death back in the day, so i imagine somewhere in johns mind he thinks of tommy as the angel of death. especially once tommy starts getting visions of the ways all the men are going to die because now, due to tommy warning, the command is better able to prepare for whats to come, and are able to at least get a better idea of what to do and what not to do, because tommy's visons arent set in stone, and he can change what happens if he wants by telling people about them.

tommy doesn't prevent sir john's death. he has no interest in saving a man who called the marines dogs and said they need to be house trained. sir john still dies, and tommy doesn't lose a wink of sleep over it.

Ink and Nightmare deal

i just got an idea

so like what if a creators having problems with the direction of their story(an au in this case) and need some big catastrophic event that would make sense but isn't the humans fault but they dont wanna make a famine like horrors au or a rampaging sans looking for murder cause thats obviously been done before(this isn't me being rude just like, in the creators perspective) and Ink obviously wants to help but thanks to the nature of his job he cant interfere or directly cause anything cause that would be messing with the story, so instead he goes out looking for nightmare with a deal basically stating: he and his boys get one freebee day with no attacks back and nightmare gets all the negativity he wants just so long as he keeps the most of the main cast alive, au intact, and the creator is fine with it. he agrees(at first thinking its a joke) but after realizing it isnt he just enjoys himself, basically taking a vacation day while his boys gets to do whatever with no prior planning from him(less paperwork!). All works out swell but eventually another creator wants the same, mostly for the giggles this time though, and nightmare gladly agrees again.

After a whil nightmare gets suspicious this isn't so plan for the long run but Ink seems far too into it to actually be faking so soon enough a partnership stems from this, which leads into a friendship, and perhaps even more! while still helping creators who need that extra dark push in their story and helping nightmare get the negative he needs.

okay, consider this 👀 Gihun's various mercenary and ex-player and ex-guard teams are all meeting in some nondescript warehouse, some suited dressed plainly and others dressed up in black tac gear with guns hung at their sides, masks rolled down their faces and hoods ready to be pulled up as they stare down at the building schematics on the makeshift table in the middle of them all. Kim takes over his part of the plan discussion, pointing at where his team is going to enter to luxurious hotel that several of the American Game organizers are hosting a party at.

at the end of the discussion, Gihun steps forward to the head of the table, dressed in all white mercenary gear. he looks over everyone, meeting their eyes one by one. across the table, Inho and Junho's gazes burn. he nods once, pulling his white mask and hood on, the low, sultry voice modulator replaying his order to "Move out."

the teams filter out the warehouse sneakily, piling into perfectly average vans to converge with their teams. at the high-class party, Daeho takes the place of a typical waiter, serving the elite guests and whispering into the mimiscule microphone pinned under his collar. his information is relayed to Noeul and Kim, who direct their teams to infiltrate the party. the guests scream as the teams rush in, restraining those with confirmed ties to the games and having Daeho escort the innocent servers and entertainers to safety.

one of the quests, the owner of a banking conglomerate who gave a hefty donation of 600 million dollars for the last US Game, becomes enraged, and two waiters who had looked out of place pull out guns, ready to defend their boss. at this very moment, the floor to ceiling window shatters and three figures drop in. Junho and Inho dispatch the disguised bodyguards, and Gihun walks past them. his tall, ivory leather boots crunch broken glass under his heels, and the man freaks, stumbling back and tripping. Gihun looms over him, light of the moon haloing him, looking every bit like a pure, avenging angel, points a white handgun between the man's eyes.

"Tell me," he begins with a note of finality, the safety of the gun clicking off audibly, his voice sounding smooth and unbothered. the man begins to beg, crying as he offers money, cars, women, whatever Gihun could wants. Gihun steps forward, impatient as he presses to gun to the man's head directly. "Be quiet," he says, pushing the barrel hard enough to leave an imprint. "Now, again: tell me where the rest of your cowardly compatriots are hiding, and i might just not kill you." his words perk up, inflection tilting at the end like a smile. "Deal?"

long answer since i discussed this so im also adding all my reasoning ramblings here

as you can definitely tell, most of what i write is bokris and in any dynamic where bojan is involved i prefer him to be topped. this isnt for any meaningful reason its just personal preference and definitely a lot of projecting, what can i say

the kris that ive made up in my head also just. isnt much of a bottom? as in the way that i characterise him in whatever au im writing, hes a combination of control freak and not liking the dynamic of it or hes just straight up not into it. no special reason, just doesnt like it. (which is originally where that holidate "just bc youre gay doesnt mean you have to like it" thing came from except i changed it later bc i can do whatever i want with my muppets)

mostly that stems from how i first saw him be characterised when i started reading jo fics and like this is super subjective bc i definitely didnt read all that was out there so dont take this as an accurate account of what this fandoms ao3 looked 1½ years ago, but it felt to me like most of the smut that involved him had him bottom and in the sluttiest ways possible which honestly, you write whatever you want to im not your boss, but it felt like a lot of it also had strong undertones of "he looks kinda femme and has a nice ass so he must be the woman* in the relationship!" like it felt so strongly like outdated gender roles projected onto gay rpf fanfic. which just. makes me run into the opposite direction as fast as i can.

and as if a woman couldnt top her man in a cishet relationship but i digress.

thats also the reason why, when i wrote the holidate bonus chapters with kris in lingerie and him bottoming, they werent in the same one bc i didnt like the potential interpretation of "oh he dresses like a woman* now so thats why hes the one getting fucked now"

My favorite thing about my show lion au/atropa fic is the backstory meetcute for Charlie and Alastor, mostly lmao because it fucking looks like the set up for radioapple but it really isn't, it's actually the exact reason Alastor hates his ass

So I find it unbelievably fascinating that in the pilot of hazbin hotel, Charlie recognizes Alastor immediately. Though I dont respect the series in any capacity, if we take into account her general bimboness and the fact that she literally doesn't know who Val is, the fact that she IMMEDIATELY knows its Alastor before he even speaks, means something to me.

(Gonna briefly mention murderkink and incest a few times but its more a vague implication and not graphic)

(Atropa au wise, Charlie does know all the Overlords and isn't that fucking stupid, because I actually like her and want her to be a person whao women are people? Holy shit-)

When Charlie was younger she literally had no access to the outside world of Hell. Her options were her parents(Lilith was extremely absent), the Goetia, the Sins(who all hate Lucifer and are either outright disgusted by Charlie's existence or just pity her too much to handle looking at her), or whatever upper society people Lucifer thinks are worthy.

Charlie, of course, did not like this. So for about 150 years, she just kinda, dealt with it because what the fuck else do abused children do but survive. And then, the 1940s happened and all of a sudden radio is the new cool medium. Lucifer allowed her to have a radio because he didn't really see human tech as particularly threatening, and it wasn't a direct way for her to talk to anyone or leave so like, whatever kept her quiet and obedient.

Alastor's radio show was her main way of interacting with and seeing Pride as a real place and not just some vague blob of failed artwork from her dad. Alastor was her main gateway to humanity and her developing love for Sinner's. She'd spent every night staying up to listen to him ramble about whatever dumb gossip was happening in Cannibal Town, or his plans for his show. And this was EARLY early Alastor. He wasn't an Overlord yet, and his broadcasts were still nothing more than some random guy hacking airwaves to yell and play music.

(When Alastor eventually graduated to live on the air murder and torture, Charlie immediately went from "omg yayyy new gossip this is so fun" to "walp guess I'm staying up till 5am masturbating to wet meat sounds and a guy giggling and calling the person choking on their own blood a good girl" lmao she has kinks)

Right as Alastor was getting his footing as a Overlord, but before he single handedly destroyed abbbbooouttt the dawn of humanity's worth of culture and government, there were these bullshit Overlord galas held by Lucifer. Rosie basically gave him her ticket to sneak him in so he could try and build some relationships, since he wasn't strong/popular enough to be invited himself.

Alastor doesn't particularly like Christianity and I think he was insanely disappointed to get to Christian god hell. He was at least hoping for a vague afterlife where everyones religion was right in some way. But Lucifer was the one thing he actually was very interested in and wanted to see. I mean, he's the downfall of humanity? He invented lying and treachery. Bitch tried to revolt against GOD?! He's the original anarchist. Alastor should love that.

Except, Lucifer is a boring, emotionally closed off recluse who despises Sinner's and has absolutely no interest in any of them.

The Overlord gala meet ups are just some bullshit from a couple hundred years ago when he was still at least trying to make Hell work, it was supposed to be his Eden after all.

So, when Alastor's approximately 15 years old(Hell years not counting his human life), he goes to this party and has his hopes and dreams of teaming up with the Devil to kill God dashed on the rocks. He however, does briefly meet the Antichrist who's just a weird little anxious ball who mostly stares at him before mumbling and running away.

Neither Charlie or Alastor are in stable enough points in their lives to have a relationship. Charlie is still very deep in her cult, and Alastor is barely hanging on to keep himself from going insane. He doesn't know how to control his new body or emotions, and she's about this close to fucking her dad to get him to actually care about her.

I think Alastor immediately forgets this interaction, and fully doesn't remember it by the time he "meets" Charlie again in 2019(yes we're doing the pilot release fuck the series)

Charlie eventually has her radio taken away, and she never gets a TV so she mostly moves on from Alastor and her little "teen" crush on him. Theres a tiny part of her that has a "omg its my childhood crush/hero, here to swoop in and save me and my hotel!!!" but that shit gets dashed on the rocks when he's just a giant cunt who's mean to her and helps with nothing lmao. Don't meet your hero's guys. Except to fuck them maybe.

Eventually Alastor's distain for Lucifer goes from "holy fuck I do not respect this man, why are you not like the cool fairy tales" to "oh you hurt charlie and I don't like that, not because I have any moral objections but because I'm a pervert and only I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HIT HER-" to "ah fuck I'm emotionally attached and NOW I have moral objectiobs. Also good god is this plot a lot darker than just creepy incest."

Anyway,

I wanna do a tiny prequel fic where "teen"(150) charlie and "teen"(15 hell years) alastor meet and have the most uncomfortable and weird interaction imaginable. If I ever actually write this au, it will fuck so hard y'all don't even know

anyway some more (frankly far too extensive) thoughts under the cut for an au i dont forsee myself drawing for again (cw: mention of suicidal thoughts and lots of talk about death)

for anyone reading this who hasn't watched asteroid city: it's a movie documenting the making of an in universe fictional play called asteroid city written by conrad earp (kdj) directed by schubert green (hsy) lead actor jones hall (yjh) who plays augie, very emotionally repressed guy whose wife (lsh, kinda) just died and is trying to figure out how to tell his children about it. anyway jones shows up at conrad's house for auditions and the two fall in love, then conrad dies from a car crash 6 months into the shows run and jones is left to play a character mourning the death of his wife while irl mourning the death of his lover and it drives him up a wall trying to figure out if he's doing conrad "right" (hence 'i still don't understand the play')

anyway for this au like everything that happens in the movie also happens i think but the character motivations are a little bit different like in the movie conrad earp writes the play before he ever meets jones hall so we don't really know why it's Like That but i think in the au kdj is either like. having suicidal thoughts or just fully believed he wasn't gonna live for very long in the like cptsd symptom kinda way lmao. so like it's not really that he wrote the play to help yjh process his own death (i think if that were the case the message of the play would be way different lmfao) but it's more like he just had death and grief on the brain and was also writing stuff. and like the answer he arrived at was that he didn't actually arrive at anything in the end. sometimes tragedy just happens and there's no meaning to it you just kinda have to live with that. like i know this is not how the process of play production works but if there's one change to the original movie plot in this au i want to make it's that kdj still dies by car accident but before the script is 100% finished or after he's been talking about rewriting the ending or something because i think he also doesn't figure out an answer he's satisfied with in the end about like death and grief and mourning. like you just know that in kdj's ideal world his loved ones wouldn't mourn him at all if he dies because he doesn't want them to be sad because of him and maybe he still hasn't fully 100% internalised that he has people who would care if he dies. anyway i think yjh kinda understands like subliminally that kdj was trying to Say Something with the play he just isn't sure what because he's looking for An Answer like some kind of meaning to everything that's happened but the point is there isn't one and if there is kdj hasn't found it either lmao. and like i think hsy understood immediately like as soon as she heard the news of his death she's figured out what kdjs thought process behind the play was and like she's absolutely not holding it together as well as she appears but she also sees yjh driving himself insane every night trying to find The Meaning or whatever and like whether or not she even agrees with kdj aside this is the only way she can think of to help him get out of that hole bc she can't exactly tell yjh like 'the point is that there is no point you just have to live with The Everything' so she's just trying her best to make him understand on his own. idk i just need someone who's watched asteroid city to see this and tell me if ive gone completely insane LMAO

They Commission a Voice actor agency, which then reaches out to the va’s. The agency then look at the character sheets and whatever material hoyo provides them with, and decide on their own which va to recruit. So don’t hate the voice directing team lol. (Not sure if they even have smt like that…??)

Also it could be that the Japanese voice agency just interpreted her character differently, and there are certainly people who prefer the softer voices. I play in Chinese, so I actually don’t know how both the Jp and eng one sounds anymore.

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, it’s not like I’m gonna say Nu uh you are wrong. I also have my hot takes, like, I don’t think mori from bsd is actually a pedophile. Armin's hands were trembling.

"You brought their god damn dog on board? Are you trying to kill us, Armin?!" Levi spat.

"Sir — " Armin choked. " — sir, I couldn't leave her to die. I'll accept the consequences for anything that happens from here — could... could you please stop holding her by the hair?" he asked nervously.

Levi's eyes became slitted with anger as they flitted between you and the blond, bloodied soldier. It required incredible strength to fight an Ackerman as a sword-wielding combatant, but with words it required an otherworldly courage.

"Sure." he said slowly, dangerously, and hauled your weight by the hair — a searing pain spread across your scalp.

Everything was a bit blurry, but you felt cool wind brush your face. You were high up... up in the sky? The Scout's airship door was slid open, turbulent airflow filled the gondola. You were forced into a kneel at the edge, too weak to fight back yet Levi still held apprehension in his chest because of you.

"Shall I let her hair go now?" Levi asked sarcastically.

"No!"

You saw Armin's eyes glaze over with fear, you heard him babbling desperately to his captain.

"If I toss her off this airship right now, I will sleep soundly tonight."

"Captain! Please hear me out!" Armin exclaimed desperately. "It would be senseless murder, she's no longer hostile! Like I said earlier, she could have killed me, but she didn't!"

A long silence ensued after his words, one impenetrably thick and jarringly apprehensive.

"Captain..." Armin's voice weakly punctured the silence. He sounded like he was using the last of his strained vocal chords to plead with Levi.

"She's their weapon. Don't mistake her docile behavior for surrender, Armin, she's just out of ammo after fighting."

"Captain."

"She's their weapon." Levi repeated through gritted teeth, "Unless you intend to keep her as such, I'm kicking her off right now."

Armin's mind buzzed for solutions as the longest silence yet ensued.

"C — can we bring her to Commander Hange first?" Armin asked.

After a small moment of begging, another silence ensued, one broken by the harsh and grating sound of your whimper as Levi flung your body in the opposite direction of the airship's exit.

Without regard for his comrade's bewildered stares, Armin rushed to you. "Are you okay?" he asked. The smallest head tilt from you was enough to settle Armin's high-strung nerves.

Levi let out a forfeiting sigh, "Sleep is for the wicked..." he grumbled under his breath. "Alright, let's take her to Hange and that mutt. Mikasa, come with us."

Now, you were supposed to be at your weakest — or so that's what Levi and Armin and the rest of their comrades in the gondola thought.

But when the door leading into the airship's control slid open to reveal Eren Jaeger, you lunged for him like a dragon.

Though he had quick reaction time, you clawed at him much faster than he could shield his face, resulting in three stripes of red across his cheek. He bore a grimace of wolf-like canines.

It required both Levi and Mikasa to restrain you while you thrashed around, but they didn't have to for long.

In your fit of blinded vengeance, you didn't notice a very familiar face sitting besides the owner of the Founding titan, whose hurt face healed over, whisps of steam rising out from your claw marks until they disappeared entirely.

"Stand down, Y/n." Zeke's voice penetrated the atmosphere.

You looked at him wide-eyed, utterly shaken.

"... War Chief?" you croaked confusedly.

But your confusion dissipated at once. Understanding dawned on your face, causing your features to be dragged down.

"Treacherous bastard!" you screamed piercingly, Armin winced. "I once revered you! Bastard! Bastard!"

You ran your foul mouth on the War Chief, calling him audacious, calling him vermin, calling him a lot of things until the atmosphere felt aflame; Armin stepped in with a voice smooth like flowing rivers.

"Stand down, Y/n." he commanded simply, and you obeyed like a dog. He knew something very important about you that you weren't even fully aware of.

See, when you bore witness to your War Chief's treachery, these invisible threads keeping you sewn to his command snapped. Armin could tell, so he played a little experiment, sort of like throwing a stray dog a bone — to see if it would go for it.

It surprised everyone else to see you cease at once after Armin told you to. His blue eyes brought a calming sensation over you. When you looked into them, it felt like you were being stared at by an angel, although that was laughably ironic, considering what people called Eldians in Marley.

"Commander Hange, I have a proposal to make." Armin stood to his superior confidently, while Hange willingly listened.

The air in the airship's gondola shook with celebratory roars from the Eldian soldiers, Floch at the center causing it all.

But packed away into the quiet area were Jean, Connie and Sasha.

"Like hell she's on our side... I'm sleeping with not just one eye open, but two eyes open 'till we get back on solid land." Connie huffed.

Jean looked over at him, "Connie... that just means you won't be sleeping, if you have two eyes open you're awake." he sighed at his friend's stupidity.

"I know! It was a joke — " he began, "Anyways. No one trusts that reaper, so why does Armin?"

Jean shrugged.

"I think she may genuinely be on our side." Sasha chimed, her tone lighthearted for the fact it was a very wild situation. The enemy who had slain countless people in the Eldian army was on their side?

"Seriously?!" Connie began argumentatively.

The door slid open. Jean's eyes spotted you as soon as you emerged.

You squeezed into the celebrating crowd of Eldian soldiers, without Armin by your side. In the other room, unbeknownst to the others, he was previously wiping blood off of your cheek with his handkerchief. He reared his pretty blue eyes at you, and softly commanded that you wait for him in the other room.

Now he remained in the control room, discussing the future with Hange and Levi, while you tried to discretely blend in with everyone else.

"Heya, nice 't have ya on our side." Sasha greeted you.

Because Floch flashed a hostile look your way, you decided to stay with these three.

The conversation staggered due to your blunt responses. But it ceased completely in a moment, a quick yet slow moment.

Your keen senses felt someone clamber onboard the airship, and your lightning reflexes shielded Sasha from taking her fated gunshot wound to the chest.

Wispy fumes curled up out of the shotgun's muzzle. At the end of the gun's neck was none other than your little sister, Gabi.

you just want to see me talk about ships i like at this point and im not complaining. so glad i hit the right zoro/nami audience <3

luffy/usopp - compels me and i like it.

luffy and usopp are the naruto and sasuke of this series. you have to accept that. there should be a fanfiction on ao3 and there isnt but there should be of these two fighting and then it regresses into making out with sexual tension and everything.

you know how people say they like zoro and sanji because they like people who are friends but bicker? luffy and usopp are actually that, but instead of fighting about nami or some very semantics based bullshit (zoro and sanji are very catty people who are ultimately very sensitive) usopp and luffy are fighting about love. and that's the best type of bickering ship where people are fighting and it's actually because they love eachother in different ways that they feel they cant express directly. it's tension. its angst. what more could you need. i need them to fight physically and have usopp pin luffy to the ground and then they kiss and wait hold on youre a persona 5 fan. people who dont want persona 5 spoilers. dont read more

finally someone will get what im saying. you might not like it but you will understand and i need that validation because im replaying p5r right now.

so i was censoring myself when talking about their dynamic as naruto/sasuke because i believe usopp as a character is maybe the only comparable guy to goro akechi when it comes to protrayals of mental illness. i believe goro akechi and usopp fulfill the same roles in both persona 5 royal and one piece as direct parallels to the protagonist and have very similar personalities (they both double sided coins) and they both have bpd and theyre both lying bitches and they both put on costumes to make themselves feel like men (akechis dual personas and usopps duel personas with the captain and sniper king). and the akechi bossfight in shidos palace, like the monologue up to it, if I'm remembering correctly i havent seen it in a bit is very usopp at water 7 same type of deal.

their backstories are kind of similar but it's mainly their personalities and neuroses and everything.

you see okay lets talk about something for a bit. goro akechi is why i believe if usopp was lightskinned slash white he'd be the most popular character in one pieces fandom, that being said persona 5 has as you know found its demographic in a way one piece hasnt, so maybe its a problem of demographic or both? whatever. usopp is like goro akechi if he healed or to be honest was better written in some respects. when i say "characters like usopp" i mainly mean goro akechi. mainly.

and what does this mean for usopp and luffy well if i were to be writing a persona 5 royal au for a year and some change i would surely liken their dynamic to ren and akechi, considering ren as a protagonist is *so* similar to luffy.

and their dynamic is similar (theyre the only ones on the same level with eachother both fool cards and both gods.)

and what if i was cooking on that. what if i was making an incredibly detailed au just so i could make a point about luffy and usopp and ren and akechi.

what if i was making an au just so i could make usopp a prettyboy celebrity.

what if i was just making an au for one piece solely so i could have that shidos palace moment with akechis mental breakdown and validate usopp as Also Like That.

what if i wanted to validate usopps mental health issues and validate his position as the best character ever by making an au in which he is compared to another best character ever?
